Reviews of Moore Nature Reserve
M. M.
Had a lovely drive out to Moore Nature Reserve , went to feed the birds but unfortunately you can't get access to the lake , still enjoyed the walk through reserve , kept under trees for dog as quite warm in the sun , managed to get some pictures of Lake via bird hides , stunning area , saw one squirrel and a kestrel whilst out , dog enjoyed the outing , had a good run around
C. B.
Great place for a walk. Lots of bird watchers go here but it's a lot bigger than it seems and you can walk for a couple of hours.
There's a dogs of lead field in front of the car park but because of the car park it is not secure. Dogs must be on lead in all other areas apart from here, so bear that in mind if your dog has more fun off lead.

Walk here regularly with my family and they both love it. Nice little paths to follow throughout and signposted back to car parks and other spots of interest. Some benches spaced about to grab a seat on if you need a minute but you can walk most of it easily enough. Lots of tree canopy cover mostly so if you like shaded walks that's nice but also opens up into some more open spots. Plenty of car parking about too. Also if you want some pub lunch just up the road is the Red Lion and about 2km drive away is the Evenwood.. good places to grab some food if you need a bite afterward. Overall well worth a little visit if you want a nice morning walk. Just be aware there can be a lot of midges in warmer weather like currently. I personally prefer it far cooler as much less insects overall 👍🏽
P. A.
Lovely place to visit, plenty of birds singing, nice and peaceful, small car park
d. g.
Proper nature walks, perfect place to just unwind.
G. P. A.
Great for walks, runs and rides. There are paths where they aren't muddy as they've been treated or you can explore and get into more muddy paths, very calm and quiet. Great to appreciate nature just 10' from Warrington.
K. M.
Love this area for walking the dogs. Lovely nature reserve with bird watching posts, and the walking paths around are mainly fenced off too so wildlife isn't disturbed.
Z. N.
Lovely quiet place for a walk. Large field, woodland and a reservoir but you can only see the water through a viewing point. We saw a beautiful red butterfly (looked a bit like a peacock butterfly), orange caterpillar and what looked like blue dragon flies We spent about an hour here on a Sunday late afternoon and we only saw one couple across the field walking their dog and a gentleman walking his dog coming out of the woodland path. Very easy to social distance. Car park was closed (we went late July) but you can park round the corner and enter the reserve through the gate opposite the industrial estate. BE WARNED - there are loads of mosquitos near the feeding station and I got bitten 11 times!
m. d.
Lovely walk in Moore Nature reserve...well signed posted with few viewing points where you could watch birds. Lots of small paths so watch and remember where you going;) enjoyable walk even in a wet weather...car park free but limited spaces..additional parking along a road. Take lots of mosquito spray as they will eat you alive;)
J. S.
Been there today with my dog. Cool long walk along nature, totally wild but including paths which was helpfull. What I found weird was few dead end turns cuz of "no public access" signs on the gate. Is it new construction site ? if so, would of been really good to put some information at the very beginning of the trail.. so you would know to not take those turns... 4/5
C. B.
The walk around the water is a short but pretty one with 3 hides to watch the water birds. There are other paths around which I haven't explored yet. The water isn't visible most of the time but the oak trees compensate for this. Dogs on leads (or well behaved and kept close.)
C. W.
Lovely and peaceful. A nice hours casual walk. The car park is quite small though.
T. K.
Nice area. Various tracks allows a variety of walks. Suitable with kids. Advisable to carry a bag and collect some litter on the way as some people do not care about nature enough to NOT to litter. We have found energy drink cans, cigarette box, crisp wraps thrown away.
W. T.
Very nice nature reserve. We go quite often with the kids and our dog. We all love it there. Very tranquil...
S.
Free to enter lovely walk threw wigg Island right down to moore nature resever good hike or bike ride for all experienced hikers an riders plus dogs love it!
R. R.
Beautiful walk, went early in the morning and it was incredibly peaceful.
K. O.
Lovely place for a walk , I always manage to get lost but always end up back a week later 😅
D. B. (.
Quite place, not readily sign posted so it’s often overlooked. A small car park, so at busier times you probably won’t get a space. Great for walkers and birdwatchers.
K.
Really nice place for birding, but my latest visit was ruined by a lot of swimers in the lake. On my way back to the car l saw a father and very young son wearing flip flops and carrying a bathing bag, walking towards the lake. There were also quite a few cars driving up along the track towards far end of the lake. This not only ruins it for bird watching, but for the nesting birds also. I feel the rangers could be a little more active around the reserve.
E. L.
Very peaceful, hardly saw anyone for hours! Was pleasantly surprised to find they have bike racks at the car park too 🚵♀️
D. S.
Good walk with lots of birds and wildlife, even in winter. There is a small car park which is free and leading straight onto the walk.
O.
Great place for a walk, flat ground for the most part. Lots of bird watching place.
A. S.
Nice place to take a stroll with good paths and accessibility
I. B.
Great place to walk amongst nature and recharge.
L. B.
A beautiful place but be warned to wear jeans!
J.
First visit to this lovely nature reserve and it was well worth it. We seen a variety of birds including Great Crested & Little Grebes and buzzards amongst others.
M. E.
I absolutely loved it a beautiful place to see and unwind
A. D.
Lovely place to walk the dog with large number of footpath routes. Plenty of areas to sit and watch the wildlife.
L. F.
Lovely walk.
Love anything near water so definitely enjoyed the scenary. Lots of places to purch for proper bird watchers. Very peaceful reservation.
B. D.
Nice place for walks, free car park
A. S.
Love walking or running round here. Feels like you are miles from anywhere.
P. D.
Moore Nature Reserve is not only beautifully kept with lots of amazing twitching shelters and plenty of trails to lose yourself in.
It also seems to be a bit of a hot bed of psilocybe semilanceata.. Keep smiling you wonderful people you
D. M.
Stunning place to walk around, you could walk around this nature reserve many times and see something new each time.
D. R.
Go up there a lot on the bikes , no cars just tracks for walking & cycling
:. M. :.
Nice reserve. I was eaten alive by mosquitos though!
P. N.
Moore Nature Reserve is a great open countryside place, located close to main roads and motorways with a reasonable sized car park. On busy days there is road side parking.
It is a lovely place for families, and has hard surfaces for wheel chair use. Mixed broad leaf woods, open meadows and lakes. There is plenty of wild life, with woodland birds and water fowl; there are well placed hides for the keen watchers.
When I visited it was after a period of heavy rains, some part were very muddy and rutted, mostly by cycle users. The car park was pot holed and wet, with some very muddy areas, not suitable for mobility aids users, the road side parking was more suitable.
Overall the place was spoiled by lack of any onsite supervision, rangers etc.
There were quad bikes, and motor cycles using some of the pedestrian areas, guide a lot of fly tipping and the large amount of dog mess let it down badly.
I feel I would not visit again at weekends or holidays, covid lockdown with children off school, probably won't help midweeks either.
I think once the kids are back at school it will be a great place for a quiet midweek walk
B. H.
Moore Nature Reserve is not that far off the beaten track. Easy to drive to and plenty of places to park. The paths are well marked and reasonably well kept. Would be perfect for a bike ride.
s. a.
Beautiful location and very well marked pathways
D. N.
Lovely place to get away from the hustle and bustle and if your into birds (the feathered kind) there are several huts you can watch the local wildlife from.
P. B.
Great place for a dog walk
P. M.
Beautiful place. Has a good mix of covered and open areas, as well as a few spots to stop and rest. Ideal for dog walking, although care must be taken to keep all dogs under control as the paths can get narrow and can also run parallel to bodies of water.
The reserve itself is a decent size and although it could be covered in a few hours, there are places available to stop and watch the birds and many other forms of wildlife. Signposting is present so walking for long enough in any direction will eventually lead you to a navigational aid. Catch this place on a sunny day and it's idyllic for picnics and or photography.
A. W.
Wildlife and nice and quiet plenty of walks
L. H.
Did a 2 mile circular walk from a guidebook with my 3 young children and it was very enjoyable, paths easy to follow and mostly level ground. I agree with previous reviews about the mosquitoes, wear long sleeves/trousers and repellent!
N. Y.
Lovely for a walk and watch the wildlife
J. M.
Never knew this place and it was a lovely surprise to find it. Definitely a place to have a wonder. The lake has a hide spot which is great and a lot of land to walk around. Will be going back as soon as possible.
J. F.
I love this place, a few different lakes to explore either walking or on your bike with about 10 different hides to discover so that you can watch the birds and other potential wildlife. Lots of colours and insects etc in summer. February time onward the more birds there are.
K. S.
Very peaceful, out of the way Nature Reserve. Paths are well kept with great signage. Some uphill areas with steps, can get extremely muddy - which although should go without saying, you'd be surprised how many people complain about such things 🙄
Be mindful of the prehistoric creatures wandering around, probably best to take an extra child with you, or at least one person who you can run faster than.
G.
I love this place. lots of wildlife
K. L.
Gorgeous hiking with view of a pond/lake and a bird enclosure. Plenty of blackberrys and mosquitoes so bring bug spray. Full dog park as well if you want to bring your best friend.
M. J.
Great nature reserve where you can see rarities like Bitterns and Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers. Plenty of parking available. I recommend putting on some insect repellent in summer, especially if you are going to follow the path of the old canal.
D. G.
A brilliant place to get away from it all. Especially when it's 17C in February! All 3 species of woodpeckers are here. I only saw Great Spotted and heard a Lesser spotted Woodpecker. Great woodland and pathways all just outside town.
M. C.
Good for dog walkers and mosquito lovers; take insect repellant if, like me, they always pick on you! It's a great resource though.
A. C.
Excellent nature reserve. However, embarrassed that fellow dog owners leave waste everywhere. Don't pick up only when people can see you!
P. L.
Quiet beauty spot with easy walks. Not suitable for wheelchair users. Be careful of mosquitos though we were all bit to shreds!
A. B.
Nice place, quite clean, barely any loose dog muck. Beautiful views and wildlife to observe. Bird hides are nice and clean. Parking was closed.
T. U.
This is ok. When I went there wasn’t much going on. Take your wellies and check to see what is going on throughout the year. They have locations to watch the lake.wildlife so keen bird watchers should take a pair of binoculars.
G. O. B.
Fantastic for a long walk
T. M. (.
First visit, good choice of different walks, plenty of viewing stations for birdwatching, saw 2 swans landing on the water just as I arrived, will definitely return and do other walks.
N.
One of my favourite places to go. Lovely walk can spend hours here just exploring and watching the animals.
C. L.
Nice quiet place, great for dog walks
K. M.
Great walk, quiet paths but muddy underfoot so go prepared
S. W.
Beautiful walks and lakes.
S. T.
A beautiful place with various wildlife - lesser and greater spotted woodpecker; siskin; bittern; nuthatch; foxes; squirrel and kingfisher to name a few. Lovely walks and lakes.
N. A.
Brilliant dog walk, you can do a short 3 mile route, plus you can then take detours. A bit muddy so wellies or a good pair of shoes is a must this time of year.
j. l.
Lovely place lots of different paths to walk along very safe
G. C.
One of the best relaxing places I know for a stroll. Watch out for the midges though. Little buggers.
n. w.
Nice place to walk the dog
P. B.

Y. G.
A lovely place, so quiet away from the main area by car park
G. F.
Some great outdoor walks here
D. W.
Nice & quiet, lots of different paths to take. Plenty of hides around for bird watchers around the lakes.
C. C.
Great walks, great for bird watching and WELL signposted if you want to try a different route
G. P.
Moore Nature reserve is peaceful and a beautiful place for bird spotting and walking. It would be criminal if Peel Holdings and Warrington Council allow more unwanted houses to be built upon it.
D. W.
A great selection of birds and greenary too much hymalyan balsam but there's not a lot you can do about that, good walks and views
B. P.

E. l.
Very picturesque, lovely and quiet place for a country stroll.
V. N.
Lovely place to go dog walking and to take children to learn about nature. A bit costly if you have to go over the gateway bridge
T.
Found it very hard to find, signs need to be a lot clearer/bigger! Place itself is good for a dog walk 🐾
M. C.
Lovely place to walk, a hidden gem. Easy walking.
m. g.
Lovely place, but in mid July it was FULL of mosquitoes! They were large and aggressive too.
P. W.
No d and quiet, no facilities to speak of, mostly sheltered. Lots of dragonflies right now
J. M.
Nice little walk. Only short visit. Clean and tidy and looks well looked after
D. L.
