Brookwood Cemetery is a beautiful Grade 1 listed site in the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens located in the heart of Surrey. It is the largest cemetery in the United Kingdom and one of the largest in Europe. The 220 Acre park provides a picturesque, tranquil setting for visitors 365 days of the year. The grounds are divided into many smaller plots by a multitude of roads and avenues that boast magnificent trees and offer a wealth of flora and fauna as well as local heritage. Saw plenty squirrels and birds. The park is rich in architecture, ecology, horticulture and history. Loved the war Graves and all the mausoleums. It's very well looked after. There are public toilets available, clean and neat. Volunteers do a lot to help with the upkeep. Will need a day or two to get through the whole park.

If you ever wondered where all the graves went in those central London churchyards that were re-developed or turned into gardens they are most likely here in England's largest cemetery. There are impressive monuments testifying to their transportation and re-burial but no names or individual gravestones. They now only exist in records.
This is the last resting place of many other Londoners who chose Brookwood's peaceful broad acres above the noise and impersonal surroundings of a local London burial.
In the South Cemetery the original lowland heath habitat has been preserved. You will find no swathes of lawn here. Just expanses of heather and some of the tallest Wellingtonia trees to be found in the UK. Butterflies abound and deer are often seen. Impressive mausoleums of wealthier families are dotted around, some of them in poor condition but gradually being restored by the hard work of the friends and volunteers of the Cemetery who offer occasional guided tours describing its fascinating history and many famous occupants. This place is so vast it had its own railway station bringing the deceased direct from London Waterloo. All that is left today is a short section of preserved track.
The North cemetery contains military burials that I have yet to explore. Set aside plenty of time to fully appreciate this place.

Beautiful cemetery cum grounds. Well maintained and well looked after. Over 2,50,000 bodies are interred or buried here. Was once the largest cemetery in the world.

Historical cemetery under local municipal management catering to diverse religions, denominations and sects, World War memorials (I & II), American veterans and much more. Fell into neglect but now gaining attention of Woking Borough Councilors owing to constituency demands. This place has served well for nearly 150 years but needs a strategic plan for the next 150 years.
Fascinating insight on how accommodating this cemetery has been to the religions of the world.
It is a shame that a small number of locals walk their dogs inside the cemetery with wanton disregard of the posted signs.

Brookwood Cemetery now back into Public hands. What a makeover. The council have spent in excess of 750k for a whole new and regeneration of the landscape. The peaceful cemetery is now even more serene and lively place to gain knowledge of heritage and history. Lovely walkways in this historic of places. Reputed to be the biggest Cemetery in Europe, it has cemetery plots for many religions and denominations and also family vaults. All in all a very peaceful place.

Well maintained grounds. The sheer size and variety of the people and cultures in this place is fascinating, as is the history. Worth looking round if you live nearby.

Visited the commonwealth War grave section of the cemetery which additionally includes sections for various other countries including the US, Poland, Italy, France and many many more. Kept immaculately and quite breathtaking. Too many lost over both world wars to keep us safe. Do visit and pay your respects.

I would like to thank a girl I spoke to yesterday, I’m not sure whether she said her name was Maria or Emily. I think it was Maria.
She was very patient with me and stayed on the phone to me for over 20 minutes to direct me to the grave of Sultan. Said Bin Taimor, of The Sultanate of Oman. I was with my friend who was visiting from Oman, who is one of grandchildren of the late Sultan.
Thank you Maria/Emily? LOL :)
You are an asset to your team.

Caring disposal of human remains. You do not see dead people just ornate memorials of those once loved and birds flying about. Very peaceful.

I continue to be amazed at the blessings that Abdullah Yusuf Ali and Marmaduke Pickthal InSha'Allah are receiving as a result of their foresight to translate the Quran into English back when they did. The fact that even today people are reading and quoting their work, not to mention the numbers of reverts because of it - Subhanallah!

A very respectful and beautiful place that illustrates the scale and horror of war. Every tombstone stands for a human fate and a violently interrupted life. Let us learn from this and let us be grateful because they died for the peace in which we still live today!
