Reviews of National Trust - Cissbury Ring
Beautiful place to walk. We parked away from the car park, as it says it is locked overnight but it currently doesn't have any means of a gate to lock it up, d'oh!
Bit of a hilly walk, took dinner up to eat with the lovely view at the top, the horses were fine but the flying ants were a pain in the backside!
Been up here a few times now as is is a great spot for aerial photography.
This is a popular area for dog walkers or those after a good home with some stunning vistas of the Sussex side.
There even have some wild ponies taken from the New Forest stock to help with the conservation of the area (living lawn mowers to all intents and purposes). Sadly I haven't got to see them yet.
I love Cissbury, I've been visiting Cissbury for years, for picnics, walks, kite flying and just looking at the gorgeous views. There are a couple of ways up to the top and 2 car parks, neither of which is very big. The entrance to one is off a residential road. The other one you have to drive along a narrow country road for a bit and the parking is a lot bumpier and smaller but it's a shorter walk then the other car park. But which ever one you choose it is a fairly steep climb. It can get slippery in the winter and after a lot of rain, so good walking boots are sensible then. Love having the horses up here as well, they are great for photos as are the views. Our son loves to kite fly up here as well. This is a place I will visit for a long time to come.
Beautiful walk with the dogs, amazing views.
Car park is small but we managed to squeeze in.
We lucked out with the weather and had a great couple of hours.
Beautiful sunset from the top of Cissbury Ring. Play caution to the wild horses that approach for a friendly nose rub, as one chased me off the edge of the hill (sod)!!! as we were leaving.. guess he wanted the place to himself.
Apart from my near horsey death experience it is very beautiful up there.
Walk around the edge of the hill first as it’s not as steep in places.
Great place to hike. A bit taxing at first but once you're up it's a manageable walk
We went for a lovely walk up at cissbury ring. Very open and exposed so wrap up warm if it's a chilly day. The carpark is small so don't be surprised if you have to park on the road or in Findon village it's self
Stunning views, great for family walk close to nature.
Great views, steep walk up to the summit but worth it. We did go on the only day it has snowed so far this year which cut our visit a little short!
A short but steep hill with magnificent view of the Findon Valley and looking all the way to Worthing.
A really pleasent walking experience for Dogs People and Horses.
Amazing country park located close to Worthing, so natural and green on the downs.
Pleasant walk with the family around the ring, taking in the views and natural habitat.
Free car park, wonderful views over the countryside and to the sea but a bit of a pull to get up to the top. Amazingly peaceful inside the ring, as everyone seems to just walk around it. Only real downside is that it catches the wind a fair amount.
Well maintained hill fort. Enjoyed the walk to it from Washington via nearby Chanctonbury Ring.
If u want to see the best views ever. Wild ponies that let the children stroke them. Beautiful place
It is one of the most beautiful spots to walk to especially going around in a big circle.
I would highly recommend this spot if anyone who hasn’t been here before. Only go during the good weather. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Giving it 5 stars and 10 out of 10.
Absolutely beautiful scenery within and around this Neolithic and Iron Age site.
Some truly spectacular views to be had despite quite a steep walk to the top.
Lots to see including barrows and ponies!
Definitely recommended although depending on the time of year, wrap up warm as it’s quite exposed so can get very cold and windy!
Views 360degree to sea and inland at 600ft vantage point. Semi wild ponies and local cattle graze the scrub, but don't get too close! Archeological feast for the eyes and mind to imagine humans inhabited this area, farmed, built houses and defended this space 1000s of years. National Trust owned and the QR code video at the triangulation point is interesting. Could do so much more here, but well worth a visit. Hard walk if not fit and able.
A wonderful peaceful place to go for a walk with families or a strole on your own
The views are breath taking especially on clear days
So many amazing things to see
Ponies roaming around in the fields
Beautiful place, nice gentle little walk up, good for all ages and abilities. Nice little area to park close if needed, well connected to other walks. Can use steps or walk up without for more of a challenge. Nice views from up top.
Beautiful airy location with ple ty of views and lots of history. Great place for a walk. It's best to be fairly fit as the walk to the summit isn't easy - not for folk in wheelchairs or with similar needs
Great place, perhaps a little overcrowded, but definitely worth a visit. The views on a good day or simply spectacular, both towards the seaside and the countryside. You get pretty much a 360⁰ view, but not from the same place. Obviously the best times to visit are at sunset and sunrise, especially if you are a photo enthusiast. The carpark is very small and it only allowed a few cars at a time.
Very pleasing scenery. Cute ponies too!
2 free car parks and a 20 minute up hill walk to this amazing site. Wonderful views down to the coast and the Sussex countryside.
Large iron age hill fort with prominent double ditches. Great views in all directions, to the sea at Worthing, Brighton and beyond, and inland over rolling fields. Some ponies live on the hill, so keep dogs under control.
Magical little piece of heaven.
I bring my daughter almost 5years old to escape the madness of everyday. We play ball, run up hills,I run down hills chasing the ball that she loves to try and get past me. She just laughs at me chasing this damn ball. But that's why it's magical, because I love to see her little smiling face and hear her laughter.
Not to mention the wild ponies, they are surely my daughter's reason for climbing to the top and then hunting for them in the wood lands. Just to get a glimpse. It's beautiful this place a little piece of heaven ❤️
Beautiful walks, with stunning views across to the sea and across Sussex. Wild ponies roam on the rings. Variety of different walks you can take. Pathways are mostly clear. Be careful during wetter days as the chalk on some paths can get a tad slippery. Parking available in designated car parks on both sides of the Ring and also on roads near Coombe Rise car park.
If you want to sit and watch the sun go down, this is a great spot. Easy walk from the car park means it does get busy. There are ponies roaming at the top so dogs need to be under control and littering could cause a big issue. Its not my favourite spot on the south downs but it is lovely.
a beautiful walk and good views
A great viewpoint and walking destination. Limited evidence of neolithic flint excavation still visible. There is more to cisbury than is immediately obvious. Do some research beforehand to make the best of your visit.
Fabulous first trip here, goals were fresh air and exercise and history homework! All achieved. Quite hard going getting up the hills, not for the feint hearted, but certainly worth it for the views and the descent! I did see people of all ages and abilities there, although not wheelchair accessible. Free parking, no facilities. Felt like being in the New Forest! Highly recommend (lots and lots of dog walkers so good for that too)
Lovely evening walk, not too long, great views for the effort. Great for the sunset but it's worth considering that it turned into a bit of a teenager drinking spot at night.
stunning bronze age hill top fort with views for miles I every direction... great for dog walks and rambles. A good mix of terrain mean this walk is suitable for most folks although the steep climb from the car park could be a deal breaker for the more infirm.
This is one of my favourite walking areas. Once at the top, you get gorgeous 360 degree views. The ring can be reached from trails on many sides with different gradients. This spring, April 2018, some wild horses from the New Forrest were roaming the hilltop. Apparently they had been relocated there which adds a fun element for kids. Not sure if they are permanent. The walk up is not hard, unless you come straight up the north side trail. It's absolutely magical on a foggy day, usually early morning when the fog hangs in the low lands on the north side and you rise above it. Enjoy!
Beautiful scenery, friendly horses, dogs and walkers alike. Great picnic spot too after a goid walk and climb.😀
Amazing view from the top, where you can appreciate the whole Findon Valley and you can even see the sea too. Easy footpaths, ideal for a nice walk with your children or dog.
A beautiful place to walk, which now includes Ponies that have been introduced to help conserve the area. Cissbury has some historical significance as well as it was an ancient Hill Fort. Also if you look hard enough to the north you can see chanctonbury.
A nice update for 2018 is you can see the turbines in the sea. Lovely day out.
Great place to walk dogs. Look out for the ponies grazing on the top, though, and also sometimes cattle. Around the base of Cissbury Ring are lots of fields and woodland for dogs to have a good run. Beautiful views over towards Worthing.
Lovely place to spend a couple hours wandering about, some great views of Worthing and the downs to the north.
I love at the bottom of this wonderful natural monument and I don't go enough a fantastic walk if you like a great view.
Stunning views, on a good day you can see white cliffs east of Brighton & distant views of the Isle of White, quite spiritual!
A wonderful place to get some exercise on your own or with your dog, you can see for miles on a good day, A must if you are in the area 😀
Such a fantastic area if the South Downs, you can go for any length of walk or cycle ride up here and the views are just stunning.
Wonderful views of the south downs coastline. Free parking onsite, with easy access.
I'm lucky enough to live close to Cissbury Ring, and it's an amazing place. Beautiful and atmospheric, it always has something to offer... come rain, sun, snow, fog, and even after dark. Stunning panoramic views, steeped in history, and rich in wildlife. Many footpaths lead up to the Ring, with the 3 most popular served by car parks (2 in Findon Valley and 1 in Nepcote)
A nice walk around this Iron Age hill fort takes about half an hour and gives great views out to sea to the south and South Downs to the north. Car park gets very busy these days during peak times, best to park elsewhere and walk in.
The best bury (Burgh) of the local 3 stunning views and the largest
A great scenic place with a large iron age hillfort with lovely views of Chanctonbury Ring, Devils Dyke and Worthing. You can see the 100 wind farms out at sea on a clear day. Ponies graze the hillfort in winter, so best to keep any dogs on a lead. There are plenty of walks but wear suitable footwear as the chalk soil (footpaths) can make the walk hazardous after rainfall. There is a small car park at the bottom of the hill, which only accommodates about a dozen cars - its free, although I think there's National Trust donation box nearby?
Another new walk for us today. Not too hard, not too long but still fabulous views...
Love this place! Great for dog walks and picnics with the family. Most areas are surrounded by farmland so watch what fields you walk into, and I would recommend keeping dogs on leads unless they are well behaved!
Wonderful experience here on our family walk / picnic, encountering the wild horses and lots of other wildlife and beautiful scenery.
Beautiful place to see the sunset
Great for walking and appreciating the ancient history of the landscape. Parking at the foot of the iron age fort is adequate on the rough track. Good walks in the surrounding area.
Had a really lovely sunset walk around here, very calming and relaxing, taking in all the breathless views.
The golden hour of sunset is a sight to behold, an added bonus was I got to see the ponies for the first time too, and as you can see from my picture they, along with the sunset made for a truly delightful picture.
Definitely a place to go and visit!
A bit of a climb at 530 ft above sea level but the reward is extensive views over the South Coast from Brighton to the Isle of Wight.
Wonderful walk and 360 degree views over stunning countryside, all the way to the sea. Ponies used to graze the vegetation as part of natural management of Cissbury Ring.
The National Trust Park - Great view, lovely walk and landscapes. There are places to cycle - more suitable to mountain biking. Can across sheep and cows. Not too far from the popular Findon Village. Parking can be an issue.
I love the history part of it but I also love the views and the general atmospherics of the place.
Great place for a walk. Didnt find the car parks but can park on road. Different routes up and different ways off to explore further. Great views from the top. Perhaps a little steep at
the start but well worth it. If you can find access to one of the car parks it becomes a much shorter summer walk.
Great variety of views. Excellent place for a walk or run.
Cissbury Ring is an amazing place. Fun for all the family and brilliant for a walk!
Amazing place with a great atmosphere, a good place for a walk with great views across the south downs definitely worth a visit!
A great place for a walk with fantastic views.
Great walk with spectacular views. Dogs have to be on lead though, so make sure to give them a run at the bottom of the hill.
Lovely late June evening.
Great access from 3 different car parks located at varying points & levels. Gret space, wild horses at the top. Great views and good access to chanctonbury.
The beauty of this place is that it's so close to Worthing, and still feels very rural. The views are incredible.
The car park can be tricky to find after the sign from the main road, but it has ample space.
Even if the car park is full, you could still walk for hours and see very few people.
Great for picnics (take your litter home) and not a strenuous walk for children. My 6 year old easily managed. Lots of wide space for kite flying too.
Beautiful view, open countryside, ponies wandering freely at the top.
Nice views. The walk arround the circle took us 30min. It is 2.5 km.
Lovely place for a dog walk, vast open space with stunning views over Sussex.
Fantastic walk, didn't see a soul for miles other than ponies.
Very nice scenery overlooking Worthing Area. Relaxing and Cool
Largest bronze age hill fort in south east, well worth a visit
Beautiful even in December, fantastic views.
If your visit includes a time to stop, take in the view relax to the sounds of the birds. Then this is the place to visit.
Great walk for the family and the dogs. Be aware there can be animals grazing. Lovely views all round. You can see the sea. Awesome. Great place for a picnic. Very hilly so be prepared to get puffed out. Windy too, so bring a jumper even if the weather is good. Enjoy x
Lovely place to go for a casual stroll and great views....A lot of dog walkers.
Great place, not much park so be prepared to walk.
So much history and beautiful views make the climb worthwhile!
Great surrounding views of the southdowns chanctonbury sealine
Britain's largest iron age hill fort. The nicest place in Worthing to enjoy views of the sea, the downs, the weald and the town. Listen for skylarks and look for grassland orchids
Excellent views across Worthing. It is also possible to see some of the horses which have been placed here from the New Forest.
Magical. It's an ancient place and the views are amazing.
Lovely walk from Lambleys Lane to cissbury ring , good views of the coast line
Lovely walk with the dog, very quiet with great views.
Stunning views from here, a wonderful walk with so much birdsong!
Wild Horse And cows picnic time lazy day even If thè ramberlers Keep interupting 😋😱
Amazing place for a family walk
Beautiful views, perfect for walking, running, mountain biking. Parking available but may be limited. Additional parking right at the bottom near the road entrance.
Nice little walk near Worthing. Good lookout.
Peaceful place for a wonderful walk!
The south downs at its best. Great views, wild horses, sheep and cows. What more do you need?
Wild horses have recently been added to this popular landmark. Most people come to walk the ancient landscape and for the views, but the horses make it more attractive for families. It's great to a well loved place get better
Huge iron age fort with fantastic views.
A stunningly beautiful place full of ancient history with spellbinding views in all directions. Such a wonderful place to stop half way through a 25km MTB ride looping from and back to Shoreham beach. Don't ride your bike on Cissbury Ring though, no matter how tempting, note the wire reinforcements that they've had to install on the slopes and respect the history that clings on with such fragility. 👊🏻❤️
Steep walk but the Horses were really friendly and came over to say hello, highly recommend ❤
Fantastic place to go for a walk in the southdowns
Awesome views for walkers, runners and bikers. Pls keep it tidy.
Absolutely beautiful place to go for a walk on a sunny day! Parked up at a little free car park and made our way up the hill, seeing bluebells, butterflies, wild ponies and an adder on the way. We walked on top of some of the ancient iron age fortifications while admiring the view around and all the way out to the sea. At the top of the hill we stopped to climb some trees and sit in the shade - a great place to tell stories. All in all, spent about two hours up there. Just make sure you come dressed for the weather!
Great views on a clear day. Good place for dog walking, dogs must be kept on leads in some areas as there are wild ponies grazing.
Nice walk up the steep hill to the top. Free parking off Storrington Rise in Findon. Popular with dog walkers and views across Worthing to the sea from the top.
Spectacular views from this National Trust site
Beautiful sunset walk.
Cool place to have some chill alone or in company, jogging around feels amazing, a part in the night when you literally can't see anything, there are a few farms and from some hills you can have a nice view of the cities and seaside. Ponies, foxes and people with their dogs are free roaming around. Magic place if not contaminated by bad attitudes and unrespectful people. Already cleaned a part of the ring which was used as a dump for fast food. Find it clean, breath the air and open your lungs then leave it as it was. Amazing reserve.
Good place to walk dogs and humans. Plenty of hill climbing to get your muscles burning but definitely worth it for the view at the top. Especially interesting if you have an interest in history. Also not very far from civilisation, so there's plenty of places to get refreshments nearby. Parking is plentiful if you're coming from further afield
Lovely walk 🐾👣 beautiful views 🌄
What a beautiful place. The views from this place are amazing. The options are endless, you can either walk up and back down the same route, or you can do a circular route around the hill or just make it up as you go along!
Navigation and access is easy, but as always an ordnance survey map is useful. Modern technology such as maps on your phone work, but an ordnance survey map is still the best way to go.
Parking is easy, there are car parks on either side of the hill, again, these are marked on ordnance survey map or Google maps.
Lovely views from the top. A bit of a climb at points but nothing too serious.
Love seeing the ponies and it's so peaceful. Great walk.
nice place for a family walk and a picnic
Good for a walk. You can walk around the entire earthen fortifications. It's a large hill Fort with banks and ditches. Good in the summer for views across the Downs and along the coast. Bit open and chilly in the winter.
Great short walk for the whole family
The climb to the top is hard in place but the views are more than worth it, and they have new forrest ponies. One if my favourite places
Lovely place to go for a stroll and see the amazing ponies. Amazing views where ever you look
Seeing far to many people letting their dogs roam off lead. Saw 2 females with 3 dogs off lead today and they were roaming all over, past visit a guy couldnt find his dog and various other visits seen dogs off lead. Think this may require some enforcement more so. I was laughed at when I mentioned about I thought dogs were meant to be kept on leads to the 2 females today.
Ancient hill fort with fabulous panoramic views across the Sussex countryside.
Beautiful place to go for a walk anytime of day — dog friendly and an excellent walk to tire the dogs out. Really like that there are numerous different trails you can follow in order to suit your desired journey length; it is not simply a one-way long walk. Also you can be dropped by a car at the top and walk down so can experience the full thing without tiring yourself out too much. High altitude so beware people who suffer from pressure related conditions such as nosebleeds, etc! Lovely scenery and you get a great view of the surrounding area once you set off. Set in a idyllic area.
Fantastic views of Worthing, the coast, and the surrounding countryside.
There were several New Forest Ponies grazing in the beautiful sunshine.
An exhilarating walk...great for families!
A beautiful place for a walk, easy parking, the walk takes about an hour to complete.
Quiet and wild but so close to home
Beautiful place like Snowdonia
Beautiful easy walking and views of the coast from this ancient hillfort
Perfect place for a stroll with magnificent views to the Seven Sisters, the Isle of White, the offshore wind farm, and up to Chanctonbury. It is a lovely walk around the Iron Age Hill Fort. Lots of space too.
Beautiful place for walking and cycling!
Weather wasn't good but still nice to visit, fantastic views
It's an easy climb up to this iron age hill fort and then when you get there, you're rewarded with lovely views over the South Downs to the sea. The National Trust has recently introduced New Forest ponies, and it's lovely to see them roaming all over the hill.
A wonderful walk watching the sun set!
Glorious place with views to Brighton and beyond .Popular but then it is Sunday and sunny.Superb walks to Chanctonbury. A cafe would be good!
Perfect for day to day walk with dog and perfect view around Southdown
This is one of my favourite spots in Worthing. There are multiple ways to access it on foot plus there is also a car park near to the ring which can be accessed via nepcote green in findon. The ring itself provides panoramic 360 degree views of the area. It is a good place for dog walkers although you just need to be aware that quite often the national trust allow wild horses to graze there. Walking boots are recommended as the chalk paths can be slippery if it rains. As it is located on top of a hill it i very exposed to the elements so probably best avoided if the weather is inclement (unless you have suitable clothing).
Beautiful place, several nearby car parks however no facilities (no toilets, café etc)
We live in Worthing and we are only 5mins away by car. It's a fantastic and amazing place to visit. Vast area of wild meadows, forest to wander through. If you are fit then the climb to Cissbury Ring is quite steep up and down so be prepared to burn some calories, but once you get to the very top there are some fantastic views of Brighton, wind farm out at sea, the whole coast all the way to Selsey, Bognor Regis, Isle of Wight even Portsmouth can be seen on a clear day. If go round the entire boundary of Cissbury Ring you will see everything including the surrounding roling South Down hills. Loads of wildlife, sheep, birds, birds of prey, slow worms, grass snakes and the best of all the wild horses. They say the shouldn't be fed but people do feed the horse feed, do approach the horses with care and attention as they group together and are easily spooked so dogs must be on leads, it's best to approach the horses without dogs in toe. Do remember the wild horse are looked after by National Park staff but also do remember that Cissbury Ring land is the horses home so be mindful when you see them as I would say it's best to sometimes give the space as sometimes you would see them in small groups around Cissbury Ring. This place is a amazing place to take your kids for a picnic as there some amazing views and loads of nature. There are two car parks with ample room, but if the car parks are full you can park on the road the is near Cissbury Ring. One more thing to add, it's a great place to do star gazing, storm watching.
Great for a walk and gorgeous views.
Stunning and just the right level of 'climbing' challenge for my toddler. The horses are such a treat to see at the top as well as the views of country and sea.
Beautiful views!! Amazing wild Ponies who actually came up to us! Over all an incredible visit, definitely worth the trip.
Lovely walks and views up here. Easy to access from nearly all sides. Iron age hill fort a trig point and wild ponies on the top. Keep dogs on a lead.
Parking is difficult but the views and the walk are worth it
Now my favourite place.
Perfect place to blow away the cobwebs. Views stretching from the Isle of Wight to Newhaven. Very accessible yet feels as if you are miles away from anywhere. You can choose between steep climb or longer and more gentle rise. The views are breathtaking and rich in birdlife. Ponies graze in the wild to keep the gorse down. Very interesting historic hill fort.
Great place for a Family walk. Eye popping views for miles around from the sea to over the south downs. Be aware the sides of the ring are steep to walk up.
Very nice view.
I love to walk here but this morning saw the signs of barbequing and empty beer bottles trash etc left behind. Pity that our beautiful countryside can be spoiled by a few scumbags who are too lazy to take away their rubbish. We need to put huge fines on these plebs to make them think twice. What effort does it take to take home your rubbish. Still a beautiful place though but we must look after it.
Stunning place to visit if you're in the area, perfect for dog walking or for a stroll on a Sunday. The stunning views from the top are the epitome of beauty of the south downs
Nature speaks for itself. Plus the added bonus of the reintroduction of the Ponies if your lucky enough to see them.
Fantastic walks and a great place for that dogs!
Childhood memories and many a time spent on the Southdowns and I'm so pleased this area is still as beautiful and well maintained as I remember. Well deserving of the National Park status. Lots of families and all age groups making use of this open space, walking, riding, picnics and great viewpoint. On a clear day you can see all around, towards chantonbury, Shoreham, the coastline at Worthing, Findon and so much more... Very small car park at footpath at bottom of the ring. But so many routes to walk to Cissbury depending on your fitness level. So avoid this small car park and pick another option, if you pick Findon side then be prepared to take a hilly route up for example. We'll worth exploring for the views, animals and the fresh air! 😎🚵♀️🚶♀️👀🐄🐑🐎🐝🦅🌻🌼🍁🌳🌄
First time here and it was beautiful.
Another beautiful national trust preservation, bring some binoculars on a clear day and see what sights you can find! Also look out for the woodland path with a great rope swing!
This place beats with the heart of the chalk of the South Downs. Gentle walks during the Summer, can get muddy on the major routes up during the winter. Plenty of wildlife. The wild ponies are always a joy to see up there, only spoiled by the irresponsible dog owners who don't show them respect by ensuring their dogs are on a short lead. 2 car parks, 1 small and 1 medium sized.
Great place to walk dogs. There are well-troddened paths. Uphill, and level pathways.
29 March 19 Found list of names and telephone numbers with dietary and allergy information. Contact me with instructions for disposal.
Amazing views from here. You can see for miles and miles in all directions
Fabulous walk up on the downs with expansive 360 degree views, including along the coast as far as the Isle of Wight. Something for everybody whether you are simply walking the dog or visiting for the wildlife
Beginning of June, warm day. We took a walk from Chanctonbury ring, quite pleasant I have to say, just to arrive at the base of the hill. Once on top, the view is rewarding (as it is the whole experience of being outdoors, far from the sophisticated city life) but there is nothing, no sign of trenches, walls or anything that might suggest that humans lived there thousands of years ago.
The mind was put to rest, the walk challenged the body and if you let your fantasy running wild, you might imagine some sort of layout for the fort that once stood there...
Great views big with local dog walkers
a perfect place to visit, for relaxing
Very very hilly but once at the top lovely views. And great to see the ponys.
The views are spectacular though the top of the hill fort itself is a little too overgrown, so the best views are actually from the circular walkway before you reach the summit.
Neolithic (1900BC) people used to dig flint here and watch for animals to hunt. Nowadays it's a big hill with fabulous views of the area from the top.
Great scenery.It is possible to
access park with certain mobility scooters. There are no public toilets. It is ok to take dogs but need to be on leads near ponies.
Beautiful place to go for a dog walk
Beautiful landscape... amazing views...🍀...
Great place to visit and go for a walk, but parking spaces are few.
The views are awesome, you can see the South Downs all the way to Seven Sisters.
Gorgeous walks and views.
National Trust always good. Nice walking. Nature and bird watching, ring ouzals, sparrow hawks buzzards kestrel song thrush. To name just a few.
I haven't been to Cissbury Ring since I was a boy (29 now, so some may argue that). I took the same route which I did as a child, which back then seemed an eternity, but in reality is a 15 to 20 minute, no too steep climb straight from the car park up to the top. The climb has great views of Worthing and the surrounding countryside, but the best waits at the top. As seen in my pictures, I was greeted by a Hobbitesq Shire, which has steps that lead around the outer circle of the ring. I was about to do a lap, when I saw horses. Apparently these beautiful creatures live here now. They are not scared of people at all (I saw a jogger in neon pink dart between 5 of them and they never looked up from their lunch) and one was actually quite pleased to see me (or maybe Daniel Radcliff from that play he did was hiding in a shrub). These guys were not here before and they are a welcome addition to this beautiful spot. Once I stopped snapping candid shots of horses, I checked out the view. It's a stunner. Brighton is clear as day and the surrounding countryside is perfect to gaze into while sitting up against a tree. This is my new-old favourite place to go and you'll probably find me up there with a camera teaching horses to do backflips. Review: 10/10
Fantastic view. A beautiful walk. Well.worth a visit
Amazing views, great walk with family. Quite steep but totally worth it
Extremely pleasant area to walk over. Easy incline to the top, and level walking once there. Plenty of surrounding trails.
A beautiful nature area with wild horses and grazing areas for cattle and sheep.
Lovely views for many miles in all directions.
Lovely scenery, good walk for dogs, quite a hill to go up if parking at bottom.
Possibly my most favourite place to be on the South downs. Full of history, great views, lots of access and links to the SDW. Currently also home to New Forest Pony's.
It's best to walk to Cissbury but if you're too lazy you can drive to a nearby car. The large iron age fort provides extensive across the Downs and the Sussex coast. Some of the archaeological finds are in nearby Worthing museum.
Lovely walking with stunning views. Plus a slice of history as the ring itself is an iron age hill fort
Beautiful, tranquil and a challenging walk.
Lovely views from the top and basically anywhere on route.
Diffently worth the climb.
A lovely walk through forest/across fields. Ending at the top of the hill where you can climb one of the best preserved iron age hill forts.
Spectacular panoramic views from a magnificent Prehistoric Hillfort set in the stunning scenery of the South Downs. Watch the sun set over the shadowy Isle of Wight whilst the New Forest ponies graze the succulent green turf at your feet. Wander through the hillocks created by the spoil from ancient flint mines and hear the cry of Buzzards through the ever changing magical skyscapes. View the pastoral patchwork of the South Downs. Enthralled, gaze out to sea over the forest of Worthing rooftops and imagine walking the primeval landscape.
Lovely views of the region and plenty of history and natural beauty for everyone. Popular locally so not a quiet or lonesome experience.
Three car parks, to suit your level of fitness. Fantastic walks and views from inside. I could spend hours just being there.
Beautiful and interesting location with amazing views over the local area in all directions. The New Forest ponies running wild in the top section were an added bonus.
Was an hard walk up the hill, but well worth the effort
Beautiful place for a walk and all the views
An amazing and beautiful place for a walk with family, the dog or by yourself.
Sheep, cows, ponies, bird song and views over the South downs national park
Fabulous views. Very interesting history-google it. A great place to walk. Would thoroughly recommend
It was absolutely beautiful, had not been in over twenty years but its a great place to visit
It's a good steep walk to the top, and even when you think you are there you find another earthworks ring to get over. Also very large, taking at least 30 minutes to go round.
Lovely walk up from 5th Ave Worthing with the dogs. Great view over Worthing from the top of the ring.
Lovely spot with far reaching views and a slightly mysterious atmosphere. The GPS on my phone stopped working just before I arrived here, and didn't start working again until I got to Findon. Wooooo-ooooo. Etc.
Beautiful place with stunning views over the Downs and coast. Watch out for the ponies though, they are fearless and chase dogs!
Beautiful blustery day with snow
Lovely walk up the East side and back down the West side.
Really nice place to walk with lovely views. Can be slippery when wet but well worth the climb.
Really nice views and really nice walks. Parking can be an issue though.
Is the sun out? Is the sky blue? Time to go up to Cissbury Ring for a gentle relaxing walk with a 360° view of the South Downs, the Sussex coast and maybe a pony or two.
Peaceful and a much needed breath of fresh air and natural beauty. Saw cows and horses, happily grazing!! Perfect!!
Historic ancient site. Lovely one hour walk from the car park and around the ring. Views of the coast and the Downs. Not to be missed.
Beautiful place for a walk - dog friendly and if you're lucky you'll see some wild ponies as well.
Definitely recommended if you have large amounts of enemies who are also Celts, or if you're looking to get into the flint prospecting business.
People who enjoy gaining the trust of curious but cautious bullocks in neighbouring fields, or feel calmed by the indifference of bay ponies, will find much to satisfy them.
If you find having constantly sensate fingers tiresome, then the winter breeze here will relieve you of this burden and coax your fingertips into a blissful numbness.
Overall, well good m8.
Beautiful location with horses roaming the area. stunning views. Free car park at the foot of the Hill.
Great for walking or cycling! Car park near the summit is fairly small so early arrival is advised.
Long walk up a big hill. Not really much to see of the feature but great views of the coast
Nice view of the sea between hills...quiet And lot of animald
Free car park is signposted from the main road, then take first left from May Tree Avenue into Storrington Rise and down to the bend, the car park is on corner. It is steep and slippery in places so wear something with good grip at this time of the year and visit the toilet before you go as could be chilly in the bushes!
Beautiful ancient hill fort with stunning views across the sea and South Downs. Currently also featuring Shetland ponies!
Great place to walk your dogs and to get away from traffic
Stunning views in all directions. Great place for a walk, run and ride any time of year.
A lovely place for a walk with the added bonus of the free roaming ponies. Excellent place for a picnic.
Nice place to have a walk or a ride or take your kids beautiful views
Been mountain biking and walking around this area most of my life. Great adventure for young kids and a nice area for the older ones
Ideal for families and dog lovers lovely views my kids love it specially when is really hot in town the best place to be nice breeze and tranquil surroundings..
I love this spot! Great Mtb trails, great for dog walking and just far enough away to forget the hustle and bustle of town
Amazing views over lancing and Worthing.. Bit of a hike but worth it
Perfect for walking the dog....but best to keep them on a lead to prevent you spooking the horses, sheep , cows but mostly the golfers !?!👍
Easy to get there but steep climb so not quite accessible for the less able. There are steps cut into hillside to help. Absolutely not wheelchair accessible.
I had never visited Cissbury Ring before. I had driven down the A24 a thousand and one times. I had been a member of the National Trust on and off for many years but this was the first time I had actually visited. It is the largest hill fort in Sussex, the second largest in England and one of the largest in Britain and Europe overall, covering some 60 acres.
The earthworks that form the fortifications of Cissbury Ring were built around the beginning of the Middle Iron-Age possibly around 250 BC. The site has a history of over 5000 years.
I hate to write the words but I didn't feel any connection with the location upon arrival. I can't easily explain why, perhaps it was the burnt out car dumped 1/2 a mile up the access road.
So despite me not being a fan of Cissbury Ring I am sure some of you will love it. I certainly don't expect people to judge a location just from my words, please go and explore yourself. It is what life is all about. On a sunny day, avoiding rubbish dumped by humans I am sure Cissbury has its own beauty and magic.
A really nice place for a walk. It's very popular though, so the car park does tend to get full.
Remarkably breathtaking. Lovely history which I've recently been reading before setting off. Gorgeous sunset with lively long shadows.
Situated on top of what seams like one of the larger hills this ex-fort now allows great views of the surrounding area and an enjoyable walk to the top.
lovely views 🤩 proper chance to get out the house and escape to the county! was so lovely to get my little brother off his ipad, he loved it 😊😊
A perfect picturesque spot for quiet reflection, an active climb or simply a superb appreciation for nature and it's gifts.
I can see Cissbury Ring from my bedroom window and I'm drawn to it, particularly on sunny days. The views at the top are stunning. It does get busy though.
Stunning views across the downs from the ramparts - on a clear day, can see the ferries going to & fro from Portsmouth.
Beautiful walks, Dartmoor ponies but please keep dogs on leads because of sheep grazing.
Fantastic views, steep climb and plenty of horses to greet!
Lovely especially from the top when a rain front is heading your way
Incredible views and not too challenging a walk, you won't be disappointed
Gorgeous place for a run in the mornings with fair weather but be sure to be ready for muddy terrain towards the top as a slip hazard.
Stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
Lovely view but would be a nice idea to sign post where the ring is as it's so much ruff ground
From here, you can see a lot! Enjoy a nice walk, with or with a dog. Enjoy a bike ride or just sit and relax
A pleasant walk this morning with the dog. Ponies are grazing there at the moment so dogs need to be under control.
Stunning views once you are on the top, but a bit hard to get there as the hill is very steep.
Cycle up to Cissbury and then onto Chanctonbury twice a week and always come back feeling refreshed and revitalised.
Beautiful place. Just wish people wouldn't feed the horses🤦♀️ fyi the sunset can be absolutely amazing!
A lovely walk and fabulous views, but can get a bit sticky so wear boots!
Great place to walk. Good for dog walking too. Easy slope and great views from the top.
Worth the effort getting to the top!
Great place for stunning views across the downs and coast around Worthing
Nice up there. Especially at dawn.
Lovely circular walk with the wild ponies. Very nice addition of scannable information points.
Nice area for a walk, great views of the sea and country side. Free parking in the car park.

Electrically very quiet, with excellent vertical advantage. Recommended for casual operation, but remember the nearest Maralyn is a little way to the north at io90tv.
Lovely place to walk. Views are amazing.
Huge hill fort. Good walkers and dogs.
Very beautiful. Good footpaths. Lovely walking/biking area.
It was a great place to fly my drone! Quiet with a few people walking their dogs.
Easy walk, great views, wild ponies, climbing trees, real history. The perfect walk.
Great walks and views around Cissbury Ring, shame about the poo bags left on pathways and thrown into bushes..
Lovely views and peaceful easy to walk to and plenty for the kids to do.
I really enjoyed this. Incredible views and amazing wildlife. Wild horses on top of the ring.
Stunning!
An ancient hill 'fort'. A lovely walk, magnificent views, lacked a bit of signage to inform visitors of its history.
I take my disabled mother with me to just sit at Cissbury ring as the views are amazing. I also take my dog for walks there.
Great view of the local area kind of hard to get to the top but once you are there it is worth it
It's a beautiful place to walk, and easy to get to from the main road.
Fantastic place to walk and the views are amazing.
Fabulous views and walks. Good place if you are looking for a bit of national history
Great historic preservation built at the same time as Stone Henge. You can feel the history. Outstanding views of sussex.
Love 😍 the Cissbury Ring 😎

Great place for picnics or just for walking. Excellent view of the south downs and surrounding areas.
Beautiful spot to see the surrounding countryside from. The wild ponies are great.

My favourite place for a quick hike.
Beautiful 360 degree views of the east/west Sussex. Great walk for the whole family on a nice day
Amazing setting, first class service, wonderful food, plentiful, very attentive polite staff and service. Obviously committed to providing a memorable experience.
Sultan and I would often backpack from Washington to Cissbury Ring and have lunch 🥣 at Chanctonbury Ring enjoying the beautiful countryside of West Sussex.
Can get busy on weekends. Try the more southerly carpark for a quieter walk. Fab views at the top.
Lovely walk and great views of the coast and surrounding area
Beautiful views
Lovely walk with great views. Wild horses roaming.
Grate place to let the kids run and burn off some energy
Great spot especially if you walk to it rather than driving to the car park at the bottom!
Great view from the top and a good fairly steep walk from the car park
