Absolutely fantastic. First came here in the mid 80s and it's still great fun. Superb waiter service to your table when you're seated so no hustling to get popcorn and drinks. Lots of snack choices and more than reasonable prices. Dont let the amazing age of this wonderful place put you off or make you think it's below par. Top quality 4k picture and a sound system to rival any new cinema. Definitely a magical place. Will be back for sure. 👍

What a magical place!
I had been transported back in time for a night of great entertainment.
"I only went to keep my girlfriend happy because she wanted to see the new Top Gun movie!"
Service was 1st class and far cheaper than those new commercially expensive american style cinemas. The film wasnt bad either!
V. C.
The quirkiest cinema experience I've ever had! Decorated with amazing hands painted murals of famous actors the venue is enough to make you want to visit and feels like you're sat in a theatre rather than a cinema with rows of cushioned seats and table service by friendly staff!! Definitely a place I will go back to again!
J. K.
A wonderful surprise. In a building showing movies for over 100 years, you still got Dolby 7.1 surround sound and 4K video. The food and drink delivered to your table was a little expensive, as expected, but a lovey treat.
J. C.
Fabulous old fashioned cinema, friendly staff, great value, table service for drinks and snacks. A must visit!
J. H.
This was a wonderful experience. The cinema had been recommended to me and did not fail to live up to the plaudits. It is a very different experience. The staff were very helpful and efficient. On arrival you are guided out to a garden to socialise and have snacks and drinks. Closer to the start of the film you take your comfortable seat with its own table in front of you. You can then order further drinks, snacks before the film starts. The sound system and the film quality were excellent. All in all it was a superb experience and by the way the film was good too!!
S. H.
Quaint, late 1800s cinema. Delightful, helpful staff. We enjoyed sitting on a comfy sofa with snacks and wine to see the film. All the seats have ample leg room and a table. Great to combine it with a visit to the Secret Garden which unfortunately we were not able to do this time! Headphones can be provided for the hard of hearing.
S. W. G.
Excellent little cinema to visit. Its still got its old charm and character with the added bonus of a great surround sound system. Waiter or waitress service at your table as long as your in 30 minutes before the film starts or just order at the bar if you are late.
I can highly recommend it to anyone.
P. F. V.
Went here with the mrs such a wonderful little place table service and old school feel to the place
M. N.
Different to original cinemas and Cozy place with small round tables and candles ( artificial). You can order drinks and some food while watching a movie. There also is a secret garden where you can enjoy drinks. Needs a little tidying and organising.
V. M.
Excellent experience. I have known this cinema all my life and its great to see how it has been adapted with the time's. Great job everyone at the Magic Lantern. I look forward to my next visit ☺️
J. N.
I have waited a long time to get chance to visit and it didn't disappoint. What a special place with amazing volunteers. This cultural oasis oozes style and soul. Will be back soon.
S. W.
What a magical cinema - a really wonderful place to relax and watch a film. Plenty of leg room and a cute, sparkly table to put your refreshments on! The murals on the cinema walls are excellent and the staff were very friendly. Definitely worth a visit!
H. M.
This place is fab. It's a locally-owned, small-town movie theatre, run the way they used to be run, but better. Nice people, new movies, popcorn, comfy chairs, and a bar with drinks you can take into the theatre with you. What more could you ask for? AND it's cheap entry price, so you can take family or friends without breaking the bank. A super fun thing to do when you're wondering what to do in a small town at night. So much more fun than Netflix!
R. W.
Possibly the best cinema I’ve ever been to.
H. H.
Fabulous evening with my Husband here we went and watched Aladdin, Took a bottle of processo in with us and sat in stalls, Good view and toilets off to the side from cinema room, we then stayed for an open mic night which was Fun, The drinks are reasonably priced as are the Tickets and staff were very friendly and Helpful 😊
L. P.
We love The Magic Lantern. You have your own table to have food and drinks. Quirky, comfy and very enjoyable, staff are brill. Going tonight, we never go to the cinema at home.
T. S.
Been here a few times now and always enjoy the laid back experience, space and food on offer. £7 to watch a new release isn't bad either.
S. A.
Went to see Topgun here last night, absolutely brilliant experience. Very organized, waiter service to your table, plenty of leg room, so much better than your average cinema.
j. g.
Quaint old cinema. Beautiful. Glad we visited.
visited again today - 18.08.21 - booked on line which was quick & easy & you get to select your seats.
Table service is great.
R. G.
This is a delightful place. You need to book. It's a prefect place to see a movie when on holiday. You'll love it.
C. S.
The way cinema should be a relaxing way to watch a film with snacks, drinks, table service and plenty of leg room.
C. O.
Fantastic old cinema with great atmosphere. At seat service.
G. H.
Fantastic. Lovely now you have a table with your seats
S. A. C. S.
Absolutely amazing, got the oldy worldy feel with a modern twist ie: tables and the table service. Highly recommend people of all ages visit this beautiful cinema.
S. W.
Wonderful atmosphere, great service, the best rum. And a comfy sofa to relax on while watching the film.
Another visit, same great service. The best cinema experience
S. W.
A brilliant experience! The cinema is an absolute must and a perfect rainy (or non rainy) day treat. The secret garden is indeed secret. You enter through a wardrobe (Narnia style) to discover a magical far away world (well, actually it's right next to the cinema ... but you could genuinely be anywhere you want to be). A menu with cocktails, drinks (hot and cold), food and snacks awaits you on one of the many well spaced out tables. Text in your order, pay and sit back. Enjoy the music and await delivery!
p. m.
Great cinema really made welcome table service in an old theatre whats not to love
J. S.
It was fantastic, the seats now have little tables and you can order drinks and snacks from your seat before the show starts. The homemade nachos cheese salsa and guacamole are so good and the Welsh ales and gin. Loved it, what a great place to see No Time To Die!
C.
Lovely old cinema, love everything about it. Only ever been twice, when camping, but it's amazing. Love the little ticket booth at the entrance and the feel of the cinema itself, the murals on the walls are fab and the little bar and lobby is awesome too!
R. B.
Great experience, we must all try and visit. Its a unique experience with bar service and traditional Fayre. It's the last cinema for miles , so if we don't use it we lose it
R. L.
Watched one of the Harry Potter Beasty films - ye olde cinema seats but with tables and loads of space - waiter service. Food and Drink - Highly Recommended.
C. H. M.
Fab place. Great space. Lovely staff. Interesting movies. Excellent food and drink choice. Quirky, comfortable and cosy. Very reasonably priced too. 👍🏼
K. R.
What an unforgettable experience! A fabulous atmosphere, the most wonderful place to watch a film. I am moving to Fairbourne 25 minutes down the road, how lucky am i....
J. S.
What a great experience! Cosy, friendly, so well set up. Felt relaxed and safe. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Seats spaced apart, table service and lovely snacks. Nachos are amazing. All cinemas should be like this ❤️
B. B.
Loved it. Quaint old building. Table service for drinks and snacks lovely.
L. G.
What a treat a real gem & fantastic experience, loved the secret garden too 🌟🌠🌈💕

As places are opening up more, this was one of the first places I went. I went with 2 other adults and 4 kids, pricing was really decent for the tickets and also typical cinema food e.i popcorn and drinks.
For those that are still cautious, the COVID measurements are excellent, they have removed seating to adhere to the 2m and placed tables in there place and this is really handy for having drinks instead of placing them on the floor. Instead of queuing for food and drink, it's at seat service which is really handy when you're with children.
All round great experience and I'm so happy it's open again.
A. T.
First time in a cinema in over two years, everyone wore a mask, felt safe. It was a super experience with friendly staff and drinks delivered to our seats. Always support local if you can!
J. P.
Fantastic place and very roomy comfortable cheese boards were fabulous
S. “. c. l. t. o. t. c.
Lovely little cinema very old and very sweet but still show great films.
A. D.
A surprising little gem from a bygone age. Loved it.
L. R.
Wonderful retro cinema! It has been going for over 100 years, so absolutely the real deal. Good value, nice range of drinks and snacks, warm and comfy. Highly recommended, especially for rainy days or winter evenings. So nice to see places like this still going.
G. S. C.
Always adored this quirky cinema since I was a child. They are doing amazing things to keep people entertained during the pandemic and need to be supported! Well done Magic Lantern for all the effort you put in to making sure customers are Safe, happy and entertained!!
T. S.
Fantastic experience here. Small, friendly, one screen cinema with bar and snacks to enjoy whilst watching a film. Live bands here sometimes also. Worth a visit.
P. B.
Just the best snazziest local cinema any town could be blessed with. Best of all it feels like a proper cinema when you go in. The management have really gone all out to deliver a quality venue.
D.
Great for nostalgia. Old cinema theatre with all original features. Sells snacks and drinks at reasonable prices. Check out the local bottles of Beer - nice.we holiday nearby every year and always go to a movie. It's a non profit making venture keeping alive some history, so give it some support
P. B.
Full of history great night watching Elvis film.
D. D.
Lovely place and the cheese board is a must loved it
J. H.
Retro looks with modern technology. Nice bar but no draft beer, every thing bottled adds to its character though. Saw the next generation river dance on live stream and enjoyed every bit of the experience.
N. H.
Loved the waiter's service and relaxed atmosphere. Will come again when in the area
J. N.
Excellent and friendly staff. Chairs could do with a refurbishment or improvements. Hence why not 5 stars. Otherwise it's a cracking venue, brilliant bar & food choice to relax before and after the film. Value for money with a classic night at the Cinema.
A. H.
Really enjoyed our visit to this 'step back in time' cinema. Very reasonable prices. Comfortable with good view and surround sound. Nice little bar and can take drinks into cinema. Super little 'cinema etiquette' film before main programme. Certainly worth a visit.
S. J.
Excellent cinema. Retro seating but state of the art pictures and sound. Reasonable prices £6 on the balcony also good value on sweets etc compared to the big chains. Also serves alcohol for those that want it!
J. E.
A charming little cinema with surprisingly good quality for its old timey feel. Pricing is on point (much cheaper than an odeon!) and you can sit on the balcony or even take a sofa! If you can spare time for a film it will be worth your while.
r. g.
New cocktail patio is great - we chilled with the music & enjoyed drinks & nibbles - with the usual faultless service from Lantern staff ❤️
J. R.
It's truly amazing to have the Magic Lantern in such an isolated town. From the big Summer blockbusters (many shown on global release day) to the smaller independent films, and the live open mic events, this cinema has something for everyone. The price of admission is an absolute bargain compared to the big franchise theatres. The only complaint I would have is easily remedied by bringing a jacket on colder days. Due to the building being very large and old it can get chilly but again, bring a jacket and there's nothing to complain about. The owners should be given lots of credit for all the effort put in and for the sake of the town I hope people continue to support what is such a local treasure. .
M. R.
Love this place, especially the Wittertainment quote on the balcony.
M. S.
Love this cinema. Real old fashioned cinema experience, with up to date screen and sound. Friendly staff, decent range of food and drink. Only one film at a time so check to see what's on before you go!
L. R.
Love this cinema. It has real character, and you can take a glass of wine or a cup of tea into the film with you. What's not to love? As well as the current mainstream releases, it also shows broadcasts of live and recorded plays, opera and ballet. It also hosts Open Mic nights and other occasional live events.
A. B.
Stunning place! My first time there we went to The Crimes of Grindelwald Premier night. We enjoyed a good view with a decent crowd of people and no problems with being able to see. Also, to compliment the evening they had Vegan Pumpkin soup and Pasty as a half-time snack and butterbeer and other Potteresque treats were also on offer as long as the standard compliment of drinks and snacks. Some people dressed up and it made for a most excellent evening. Many thanks!
l. h.
Great atmosphere from quirky independant cinema. Only £5 to watch a film - a friendly bar with the best selection of gins ever and you can take your drink in to watch the film! Amazing!
a. p.
Went to see Mark Thomas, what a venue staff where friendly and neither visitors or staff made me feel like a freak for wearing a mask throughout the performance
G. M.
Magic lantern is a 125 years old cinema that plays movies since 1901! That by itself is pretty incredible. There is 1 screen playing one film at a time 1-2 per day with ground floor and balcony seats. Even though it is so old the screen resolution and the sound system are within the latest technology making it a great contrast between old and new! There are nights that live music is offered in the premises of the cinema!
D. W.
This is such a special place to visit in Tywyn. The Magic Lantern shows up to date films and also live streaming from London theatres. Dogs can be taken as long as they are well behaved. The foyer is comfortable and welcoming where one can have a drink before a film but also it is used for open mic night's and other events. This is truly a real gem.
C.
Fantastic little cinema. Good COVID setup. Food, drinks & table service at exceptional prices.
I. B.
A very good cinema where you can have food and drink drink served at your table.
T. V.
The best cinema......great friendly staff.
Great little bar and we were able to take our drinks directly to the seats along with nibbles very relaxed atmosphere.
Looking forward to my next visit.

Like travelling back in time to the early days of cinema, this is the way going to the movies should be! Now you can also enjoy food in the Secret Garden
S. T.
An amazing old fashioned cinema showing the latest films in a lovely intimate space, with a licensed bar to boot. Gorgeous. Fabulous community feels. Definitely go.
S. C.
Simply the best local cinema. A great old building from the heyday of the movies with loads of character, a dedicated staff, good little bar, Ben and Jerry's ice cream and a good range of films from blockbusters in 3D to National Theatre productions.
j. b.
Well, the seats aren't the most comfortable I've ever sat in and it can be a bit cold in winter... But who cares ? It is a massive privilege to be able to enjoy the latest films in the highest quality picture and sound available in the country !
S. H.
Great atmosphere, the staff really get in to the spirit of which ever film they are showing. Always make an effort to go here when in the area. Fantastic value for money
A. J.

S. H.
Delightful old fashioned cinema, utilizing upto date technology, to show all the latest available movies and events.
I didn't use the refreshment facilities (therefore only a 4) but presume they are of a high standard.
S. S.
Wonderful local cinema showing the latest movies using the latest projection equipment. Lovely building with the authentic theatre feel and genuine cinema seats. Staff are excellent too :)
S. L.
Absolutely brilliant facility for the community to enjoy. Hope it will thrive long into the future, and the Secret Garden too.
W. G.
This place is a real gem. Combines all the character of the traditional Odeon cinemas with modern technology and the latest films. Has a bar too. Seats tight for a "modern frame" - but I still loved it.
I. M.
I love this little cinema! there is something about this cinema that is quite unique, perhaps is the fact that it has not got an air of pretentiousness, rather, it is simple, warm and cosy. The staff are all very friendly.
D. B.
Fantastic secret garden. Easy ordering by text and quick service. Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended!

L. L.
Watching a TV programme in New Zealand about sensational Wales my heart skipped a beat as the incomparable Magic Lantern in terrificTywyn was featured.
One of the world's top ten theatres according to Lenny. This artist theatre has a universality acclaimed and eager projectionist to call on when necessary.
If you're lucky he may even make a Harvey Wallbanger in the well appointed cocktail bar to take and in watch the film. The theatre is cosy on a winter's day and cool in the summer because of its sophisticated air conditioning system.
Latest movies almost before they are released to the world are on screen in the Magic Lantern. Don't hesitate get in, get comfortable enjoy yourself you'll not be disappointed.
J. M.
