Reviews of Bournemouth Upper Gardens
A.
Just beautiful gardens... Love ealki g through them to hear the peace, the quiet and bird song xx
G. M.
We have lived here for nearly a year now and didn't realise that was on our doorstep what a beautiful and peaceful walk. We didn't even get time today to do the walk all the way to Coy pond but definitely will be back tomorrow.
M. S.
Underneath the underpass are very cool graffiti Muriel’s. Loved them! Such a genius way of creating art out of block concrete. Wish I had photos…sadly I don’t! 🙈
M. J.
Nice walk to / from Coy Pond: 2.1 miles to / from town centre.
Paved, so buggys and bikes can make it. Reasonably maintained gardens and lovely variety of plants and wildlife
H. K.
Really lovely peaceful place. A nice assortment of trees and shrubs and a stream running through it. Also a bat place built like a folly shaped like a folly. Can't believe it's not far from the main thoroughfare
m. m.
Lovely walk along the Bourne river and Upper Gardens. Tranquil, well maintained, lovely planting. Smooth path for pram, wheelchair or mobility scooter. Dog friendly
L. S.
A nice alternative route from Westbourne or Branksome into town for a mostly car free walk. The paths follow the stream through a variety of landscape settings, some areas with raised wooden pathsbover reeds, some set out more formally.
S. D.
Beautiful part of Bournemouth Gardens, more wild than Pleasure Gardens. Lovely stream. Great for dogs to run off lead. Lots of shady trees.
D. L.
A beautifully kept area of 4 continuous gardens going from the town centre all the way to Coy Pond. A super walk.
赵.
Very beautiful garden and lots of trees 🌳 lovely streams around me.
I. F.
A beautiful space in the midst of the town. We ambled through the Gardens in the dappled sunshine and were amazed at the variety of trees and plants. We loved the water features and saw not one scrap of litter.
Great for a peaceful wander at any time of the day.
I. W.
This is the third of a series of gardens leading along the Bourne from the sea front. This is the least formal of the gardens and a haven of peace and tranquility.
As the Bourne isn't a large river, more a wide brook or steam, it meanders and the way that the bushes and trees areplanned makes a walk through the gardens rather magical, especially with the biotic looking tower suddenly appearing round the corner in the trees.
A lovely and romantic place for a walk!
S. H.
Beautiful hidden gem through Bournemouth, leading down to the beach. Very peaceful and a lovely walk through the gardens, following the small Bourne River
L. K.
The Bournemouth Chine gardens are looking lovely despite Covid-19. It is a wonderful place to connect to nature.
H. C.
Bournemouth isn't just about beautiful beach. Upper Garden is one of beautiful gardens in Town. Good for relaxing walk and jogging or family picnic.
A. t. H.
The whole of Bournemouth Gardens is well maintained, varied, colourful and peaceful. Such a delight to walk or jog through. Never busy, always places to sit and take in the silence, admire the flora, or read a book in sunshine. As I write this its autumn so the leaf colours are magnificent. Well worth a stroll from end to end.
A. K.
Much quieter and less commercial than lower gardens. Lovely place to visit on your own or with friends and family. You can find there lovely shady paths, beautiful plants and trees, water tower and red bridges.
F.
Very need and tidy, well looked after all those years because of the size of the plant. Very peaceful. Sadly on the walk way and the bicyle path some painting on the wall and the fence makes it untidy, it does not make u feel u were really in the wild.
J.
Lovely to walk or have a small picnic in this gardens. Also there is a bicycle route by the river Bourne. And childrens play area.
S. W.
Great place the walk the dog along the river though some tropical gardens. Finishes up near a latlrge coy pond with lots of coy carp
J. E.
Such a lovely place to go for a walk there is a nice tea room near the tennis courts
P. M.
The gardens that run through the city centre are beautiful. They give you a sense of not really being in a big city. Nice walk ways, work still being down on one of the paths but should look even better next year when they are finished
S. Q.
Tranquil and attractively maintained gardens ideal for a quiet leisurely walk within town environment
B. #.
Beautiful walk always my 3 mile choice into town
N. I. M.
A stunning place suitable for an excellent walk. Also quite romantic if you're on a date.
S.
The Gardens in Bournemouth are a delight, peaceful, clean and a wonderful place to go to escape the chaos that Bournemouth has become over the years. The grounds are well kept by maintenance crews working hard year round to achieve such magnificent views. Hats off to them. Be a star please pick up litter when you see it, every little bit helps.
D. L.
Beautiful walk, greag way to relax if Bournemouth gets too busy.
R. Z.
Amazing narrow and beautiful park and walking path especially during the autumn when leaves have all colours
J. J.
A nice place for walk. Well maintained.
M. L.
A nice walk in the Gardens is a great deal especially in the sunny days of summer!
J. L.
Great walk really good lots to look at and good for all age groups. You can walk as fast or slow as there is so much space on the paths. Would highly recommend for a late evening (sunset) walk as well.
J. O.
Good garden to visit and spend some time. Beautiful nature
C. X.
Beautiful place to walk around, the place is also less busy the further you walk through it. There is also a lovely stream you can sit beside and would be perfect for a picnic. Suitable for prams and small children also.
J. M.
Great scenery very peaceful and great walk with the baby.
R. W.
A lovely little walking spot, almost like a little fairytale garden in the spring
A. K.
Nice place to jog and walk, long strech and well maintained walkways along canal. clean lawn and variety of plants and flowers on show.
B.
Stunning. What a fabulous open space, beautiful planting and lots to do, and , it leads you straight down to the beach. A jewel in Bournemouth's crown.
E. G.

E. N.
Lovely walk and nice place
H. W.
Beautiful gardens, well maintained. Lovely for walks.
#. E. G.
One of Bournemouths true treasures
Soon to be sold off no doubt by the mafia of Bournemouth aka the council
H. M.
So beautiful and so historic with the original planting. Love it
P. E.
Beautiful gardens with lots of spring flowers on route, enjoyed it although a blustery day, it was sheltered from the wind. Have not been here for many years so good to walk somewhere different during lockdown.
R. P.
A lovely walk from Coy Pond into town
S. B.
I love this garden
Is my favourite place in Bournemouth 🤩❤
D. W.
these gardens are great to walk through, and stop to look at the trees, listen to the water funning through the gardens, along lots of different waterfalls, and the gardens go a long way from the centre of Bournemouth, and its nice to look, and listen to nature, and of course to sit on one of the many benches that are along the whole length of the upper, and lower gardens.
M. T.
Beautiful , well tended gardens full of a great variety of trees and plants, some quite exotic. Such a peaceful place to walk, away from the crowds on the beach. Very good paths for walking.
G. D. M.
Beautiful walk. The city is peaceful itself I would say but this gardens are still able to give you this feeling of leaving the world behind your shoulders. It's definitely dog friendly but also a good spot for families.
k. c.
What a nice walk to get some spirituality.
G. C.
The lovely Bournemouth gardens are there for everyone to enjoy for free
G. B.
Taking an afternoon stroll through the upper gardens in the late afternoon sunshine made this visit all the more worthwhile. The gardens have been lovingly tendered and kept neat and tidy and are a delight to walk and reflect.
These are very pleasant and interesting gardens no matter what time of year, so a visit is a must and to enjoy.
L. B.
Great location and walking with a cycling path. Stop to read the history.
N. y.
Lovely garden t spend time with friends
m.
Amazing place for relaxing and walking
C. S.
I love walking through these gardens, gazing at the plants and trees and seeing the changes with the seasons. I love to see the leaves changing colour and the trees turning golden brown. There is always something beautiful to see.
J. A.
Lovely way to spend an hour, or morning/afternoon walking the paths, relaxing with a picnic or biking on the proper paths. Very picturesque with plenty of spots to shade on a warm day.
S. K.
A nice walk into Bournemouth or just if you fancy a walk! There a few benches along the way so you can take pit stops if needed. It's a nicer walk in the summer, not so mushy n squishy on the grass areas! There's also a woodland play park, half way ish between coy pond and Bournemouth Square in the gardens, just by the tennis courts. Plenty of grass areas to have a picnic in the summer. Good for dog walking.
H. a. I. F.
Very pleasant but roo many scooters and
Bikes ridden on oath designated for walkers.
Lovely flowers .and shrubs.
C. W.
Beautiful peaceful lush planting and trees. A relaxing spot to rest or think
S. H.
These are beautiful English garden. You can walk for three or four miles enjoying a huge variety of plants and birds. It's very quiet and enjoyable. The walkaway ends up in the beach so actually you can combine both of them. From time to time you will find kisosks whew you can buy ice creams or drinks.
G. J.
Always a very pleasant stroll through the gardens.
We usually start at the Koi Pond and make our way down to the centre. The volunteers do a lovely job of the flower gardens. The stream flowing through is very therapeutic and if you walk far enough you will end up in the town centre for a well deserved cup of coffee before heading down to the beachfront.
L. P.
Love the gardens. Always a good experience walking around there..
Always so much to look at and do.. Love the 🐦 birds always a treat...
B. D.
Really wonderful gardens along the river Bourne as it wends it's way down to the sea. The shady side gave a welcome relief from the heat.
The gardens are a little busy at this time of year, but are kept to a high standard.
They are nowhere near as busy as the beach, a bit cooler and a lot more comfortable. I am surprised so many follow the norm and go to the beach rather than the gardens.
The aviary, artists market, bandstand and all the trimmings are icing on the cake.
S. J.
Wonderful scenic walk with a stream running through the middle of it.with 3 paths running through it for walking cycling running. Beautiful. All the way into Bournemouth.
V. V.
Just before we travelled back home we came here and it made me want to stay in Bournemouth! Beautiful, tranquil green space with a cute little stream. Great spot to walk and take some photos.
N. W.
A nice pleasant section of formal gardens complete with interesting Victorian brick built tower that used to store water for a previous fountain. Close to the Bourne with oriental style bridge and flowing, babbling water. Perfect for swimming dogs.
t. h.
Recently paths have been improved on one side, look forward to trying them out in the near future.
A. J.
Such a peaceful, well looked after set of gardens. Relaxing in the sun or shade of the beautiful trees. Fantastic escape from the madding crowd.
K. T.
Beautiful place to go for a walk
C. H.
So pretty and peaceful. Gardens kept well and a delight in every season.
A. R.
Must see part of Bournemouth, a great place for spotting dragonflies in early summer. Beautiful all year round.
M. K.
This is South Coast Wonderland. This is heart of Bournemouth. No place like this one ❤
G. S.
Beautiful walk right through to Bournemouth square. Nice place to sit and relax to enjoy the sunshine.
D. K.
Less formal than the lower gardens. Beautiful trees and shrubs. Pedestrian path separate from cycle track. Stream passes through the gardens, there are plenty of benches. Walk right on to Coy Pond. Elevated walkway through bog garden.
N. M. D.
What an enchanting discovery literally steps away from the noisy outside urban road. My wife and I couldn't believe our eyes when we stumbled at the bridge during a bike ride from Bournemouth.
G. C.
Very peaceful and quiet
P. E.
Hidden gem walking from Bournemouth Pier through gardens . Follow path from War Memorial. Gentle flat walk , great if you have mobility requirements as very flat. Beautiful trees and gardens a real treat. If you can walk into wild gardens to Coy Pond then up into Westbourne for Bournemouth most vibrant community. Lots of great pubs cafes and restaurants not forgetting great fish and chips. Follow signs to the beach along beautiful Chines and stroll along Prom back to Pier. Enjoy
K. P.
If you looking for a break from sun and busy beach, this is great place to chill. Few benches and nice stream going through the garden, great placeto see different blooming flowers in spring and summer time.
A. L.
Always enjoy the Gardens. Lovely at different times of the year too and generally the upper Gardens going away from the beach are quiet so, able to maintain distances
P. O.
Nice place for peace and quiet and so close to town.
D. W.
Beautiful gardens, a real mix of different plants, trees and flowers. I love walking from Pier Approach right up towards Westbourne, it's such a lovely walk
S. A.
What a beautiful place to walk, sit, ride, run, relax, read, smile, smell, stretch, talk, laugh and love! Stunning surroundings peaceful atmosphere and gorgeous wild life we regularly park at coy pond and walk the whole gardens to get into Bournemouth town centre.
D. H.
The upper gardens in Bournemouth are a quiet and tranquil place to take a slow walk, have a picnic or simply to sit an soak in the beautiful surroundings.
There are a wide range of plants, shrubs and trees along the banks of the Bourne river, with the occasional footbridge crossing. In one section of the garden is a small folly tower.
Each season brings different sights. Well worth a visit.
D. B.
Could walk here every day, it's just wonderful. Quick walk into town from Westbourne - 30mins actually.
w. f.
Great gardens. Well maintained. Beautiful place for a walk
N. L.
Beautiful gardens. Well looked after. Take the longer walk to Coy Pond - it’s worth it.
S. R.
Great for a walk, jog or commute into town but be a little careful at night as there is little to no lighting and questionable characters sometimes.
A. N.
A lovely place for a walk only spoilt by inconsiderate dog owners who let off lead dogs run free or cyclists who do not stick to the cycle lane.
P. F.
Beautiful at any time of year( if not raining ) we often go even though its a bit of a drive for us , so we will probably wait till they've sorted the A338 before we go again .
E. K.
Great place to relax. Even though it's in the middle of the city, you have lots of green space and beautifully maintained flower bed.
S. P.
Beautiful gardens following the course of the Bourne stream down towards the sea. Autumn is an ideal time to visit - great colours everywhere. I suspect most visitors to Bournemouth eschew the Upper Gardens, restricting themselves to the Lower Gardens down towards the pier. It's well worth venturing further north west.
B. J.
Best part of Bournemouth Gardens, more tranquil and very much worth the walk up to Coy Pond and back to the Square. You can then walk in the busy part of the Gardens to Bournemouth Pier and Promenade, mind the racing cycle riders who seem to ignore pedestrians.
A. B. (.
Beautiful park. Which is also basically a botanical garden. Very nice to a stroll on a wooden pathways though loads of plants. You completely forget you're in a middle of the city.
J. L.
Great mindful place..
. except the last time. .. .there was a bag obviously snatched / stolen contents strewn about. .. We alerted the Authority's. . But they did not seem too interest!!
I. W.
Bit out of the way, but makes a lovely walk, especially in summer. Quieter than the central and lower gardens, so perfect if you're looking for a more relaxed stroll
F. n.
Beautiful place, walking through the middle is nice and quite a few places to sit too, lots of plants as expected from gardens
P. C. T.
This is one of the best parks I've ever walked thru. Relaxed, beautiful, perfect for long walks. It has lamp post that make this fittable for night walks. Actually the you can walk all the way up from Lower Park and go back. Is awesome.
B. B.
This is such a hidden gem of Bournemouth. It's peaceful, plenty of birdlife, and it's fairly well designed. The management by the council is a little off - himalayan balsam everywhere! Hacking down random bushes in spring! Mowing the grass constantly! But on the whole, one of the nicest council run gardens / spaces I've been to.
Y. S.
Been walking through here since the 70's, at least this hasn't changed, lovely relaxing walks plenty of seating areas to stop and smell the flower's heaven to me.
E. R.
Lovely place for a walk. It goes from Coy pond to the city center. You ca cycle through it or walk while enjoying the nature. Very relaxing place.
V. D.
Very nice place to have a walk, have picnic with friends or family.
J. W.
Lovely as always. Worth visiting every month of the year. Very good range of plants and we'll maintained.
A.
If you are looking for somewhere quiet, and away from the beach. The upper gardens is the place to go. Sit next to the river have some thing to eat in a beautiful surrounding
N. F.
I have loved the Pleasure Gardens since I was a child, back in the 1950s (!)... and it is even better managed now than it was then; it is a much more varied environment now, and can be enjoyed by folk of all ages. My personal recommendation is to try to have a Pooh Stix race down the Bourne Stream, from the little bridge across the road just below Coy Pond down to the grille across the stream in the Square, a short distance past the war memorial. We do it on 1st January every year 😀
C. S.
One of the great things about Bournemouth is you've got so many places to go and get away from everything. No matter what time of year it is the walks are relaxing and you'll find various spots to sit up and have a little something to eat or just take in the sights and sounds.
From Coy Pond you can walk all the way through the gardens and to town and then on to the seafront. If you visit during Autumn you'll see all the beautiful colours on the tress and on the ground.
r. d.
We love the gardens we take our 2 year old there every other day at least and have a great time
A. P.
Super really lovely,parrots.aviary highly recomended
G. C.
Excellent for dog walking throughout the year
G. B.
Beautiful gardens! A wonderful walk alongside the stream, discovering a variety of exotic trees. Loved every minute.
N. D.
The central gardens are in two halves. The Christmas tree walk in the lower garden at the moment Dec 2018 is magical with Ice skating rink and Santa's grotto there is a cute little cafe with a great view between the Avery and the pavilion theatre.
J. H.
Pleasant for a picnic, a fairly flat part if the gardens with lawn areas, planted areas and the Bourne stream running through the side. There a cycle track on one side, and a couple of pedestrian only footpaths on the opposite side.
D. H.
Lovely gardens. Can get people there who are not too careful re covid rules.
V. S.
I just love the variety of trees and the peaceful feeling here.
S. F.
Lovely quiet walk, good place to sit and have a picnic, lunch if you work close by, very central and easy to access
A. T.
A traditional victorian park.
Park near Coy Pond and walk or cycle down to the square or the pier. It's lovely in the summer and you will have the first part almost to yourself. There are some interesting old buildings, trees and plants growing along the Bourne stream.
P. O.
Beautiful location stunning views beautiful shrubbery flowers plants very diverse trees will koi carp in the pond and we have multiple paths to walk through 2 Wallisdown Bournemouth Westbourne Branksome Alder Hills all paths lead to Rome

C. E.
Beautiful outdoor space which is well kept. Lovely alternative to the beach on hot busy days
B. S.
Beautiful walk through the gardens with the children race stick under the bridge so peaceful
A. F.
If you are on Bournemouth center and don't want to go to the beach, take a long walk and go to the upper gardens.
A long and calm walk it's a perfect escape from the city without leaving it.
M. P.
Well looked after public gardens. Ideal for young families. Parking not so easy but best further inland and free!
c. t.
I love the middle gardens. Full of colour all year round. Most people go to the Bournemouth end or Coy pond and although I understand why the middle is gorgeous
p. u.
Beautiful gardens
It's goes on and on.
K. P.
Lovely place for a quiet walk or a bit of relaxing.
B. S.
Beautiful place to walk through eventually reaching Bournemouth Town centre and the beaches. Recommend starting your walk from Coy Pond.
D.
Great place to spend time with family or kid . for locals staying around westbourne, bourmouth and Poole.
j. d.
A very busy area but rather pleasant. To enjoy a coffee from the snack kiosk and then sit and people watch is quite amusing to me as they hurry by
W. V. v. H.
This is a great garden with a large selection of different trees, shrubs.
Good walking paths.
C. R.
Upper Gardens is the lost Jewel of open public spaces in Bournemouth with more species of trees than any other parks if you are after peace and tranquility this is the place to be

K. R.
Lovely to walk through even during winter. Tip, don’t follow Google direction, just follow the trail through Lower, Middle and then Upper Gardens
S. L.
Beautiful gardens, peaceful, with a cycle track and several pathways taking you right into the centre of Bournemouth. I always walk into town this way from Westbourne.
D. O.
Great for a dog walk. The path north of the stream is no-cycling, so take your dogs that way.
C.
This is a part of Bournemouth not so many people know about.

Lovely Gardena to go for a walk in the morning or weekend. You won't feel the sea breeze which is very calming.
