Reviews of Ham Hill Country Park
c. a. (.
Ham hill country country park. We stopped by here on our Way for Holiday trip to Devon. It’s located on Somerset, 2 and Half hours drive London. There’s a bit of slope going there but no worries. We arrive d on Sunday and there’s an event for families. There’s a parking area and it’s free. We just went up hill to check out on the cenotaph. From where we park it’s just 7-10mins walk and when you reach the top you will be surprised by the amazing view. There’s trail and some beaches to rest on along the way. There’s an information centre near the car park. I noticed that there’s a rubbish bins around. And at 12.30pm a story teller gathered the families around which is very nice not everyday you see. We haven’t explore the rest of the area because We stayed there for 2 hours. I recommend this place for relaxation otherwise I want to come back here again.
L. J.
What a lovely place to go if you like views…..on a clear day you can see for miles! Was nice and quiet when I was there, but I could imagine it would be busy if the weather is nice. Lovely pub called the prince of wales welcomes you when you get to the car park.
J.
Lovely walk, beautiful view up on monument, lovely walk around for kids and seeing digger explaining what they are doing, lots hidden bits to climb.
S. C.
Lovely place. Been going there every time I'm home. Lovely pub and good walks for all the family.
J. L.
Breathtaking views, clearly marked paths (and off the beaten track paths if you prefer). Lots of doggy bins. Mostly flat terrain but there are steeper paths if you prefer. Not too busy!
R. K.
Lovely park we visit regularly. Great place for families for a picnic as there's an area with tables and benches. Perfect for dog walks or to just enjoy nature. There's an ice cream truck here on most days too. The local pub is very popular with great views of the valley and a nice garden.
D. P.
Lovely safe place to bring young children that can run freely and then have a lovely picnic.
C. S.
Beautiful Place To Visit!!! :)
Beautiful Views!!! :)
Beautiful Wildlife!!! :)
Great Walkies Too!!! :)
j. h.
Lovely country park with amazing views with minimal effort. Free parking. Toilets. Pub. Ice-cream van. Well laid paths. The quarry does kind of make the place look untidy but I guess it is part of the history of the place. Worth a visit.
C. K.
Such stunning views over the Somerset countryside
j. m.
A choice of footpaths through the place.
One quite wide and smooth, maybe OK for wheelchairs, another quite rugged, with some excellent places for little ones to run around. There are some vantage points to stop and look at the view, with information on what you are looking at, as you face different directions. The toilets are individual, how clean they are is a bit of a lottery on time of day and who's been in there.
M. B.
Plenty of variety in routes to walk. Nice scenery and Paths easy to navigate. Adequate parking. Some off lead dogs and some owners not picking up after their dogs. Good venue for a walk.
N. H.
The Country Park covers many acres of well managed land, promoting meadows and wild life, skylarks, moths and butterflies. I love to go there for the peace and tranquility. I wish all people would treat the area with the respect it deserves.
j. 3.
So many picnic areas and you can take so many routes on your walk and u can spend load of time going about the park and even see some fascinating rocks .
W.
A hidden gem just outside Yeovil, parking is free and a great place to take the family and dog for the trails and views, which are breathtaking. The photos don't do the scenes justice. Lots of places to stop and sit, we took a picnic and sat and enjoyed a beautiful part of Somerset.
We even found a pub by accident on the walk back to the car, which of course we had to try. Pub is also dog friendly. I think it was called the Prince of Wales.
There are public toilets here too. Treasure hunters beware, there are signs warning of using metal detectors on this site and prosecution if caught. It's as they don't want you to get out and explore... bar hum bug!!
We had a great day out and will be back 😀
M. B.
Lots of lovely walks going in all directions from Ham Hill. Spectacular views, working quarry, forest walks, wildlife. Lots of small car parks, good for dogs.
H. V.
What a beautiful spot this is. We picked a perfect day, weather wise. The most amazing views for miles and miles across the beautiful somerset countryside. Beautifully maintained but still has lots of natural areas where the birds are quite prolific.
S. G.
Beautiful place to explore you can walk for hours and hours.
Early walks catch the best views
A. W.
Well maintained, nice walking. Great views! Brilliant pub nearby.
L. B.
Great space for many walks and adventures with lovely pub for refreshments.
L. M.
Great dog walking place...safe to let them off at the top and no sheep around. Fantastic views and a lovely pub to go in at the end of the walk
A. J.
Great place to get out in the open air .Fantastic views from the war memorial at the top.
P. M.
Great place to stop to walk the dog on on a jouney. Just off the A303 with fantastic views and great for a picnic or meal at the Prince of Wales pub.
S. B.
Love Ham Hill. Nice pub at the top, and another at the bottom of the hill. Good place to run, or walk, with yourself or with family!
F. P.
I came here this morning to watch the sun rise, it was beautiful and peaceful. There was nobody else around because I came so early, I saw lots of rabbits though. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
K. R.
A trip down memory lane took us to Ham Hill last week and it did not disappoint. Well maintained landscape, good information points and incredible views of Somerset - it's worth the climb.
A. P.
A great place for family's or on your own, ok parking a nice little pub to rest and lots of area and history to explore I thoroughly reccomend it especially if you have a dog
G. P.
Good place for a walk, good views and can do either long or short walks. Good for buggies and wheelchairs as they are gravel paths, small incline up to the monument but not too bad.
J. J.
Plenty of quirky walking areas to keep the kids running around. Dog friendly, great views, grassy picnic areas, local ham stone still cut here and an old wall with evidence of how they used to do it (see the hand made chisel marks). Finish off with a cold one, ice cream, meal or all 3 at the friendly pub. Lots of free parking areas.
S. F.
It's very muddy place but considering it was icy and had been raining I should of wore better shoes lol.
Bit busy considering we are in lockdown! But overall not a bad place to visit if you enjoy walking.
S. G.
Lovely wild parkland. Plenty of flora and fauna and a good choice of walking routes
a. a.
Nice park with lovely views! Perfect to walk with a dog.
L. M.
Great place for dog walking 🐾🐾
A. G.
Beautiful place to walk every walk can be different been walking up here for beat part of 8 years and still finding new areas to investigate Haha
J.
Nice place to walk with great bike tracks and hills for the kids to climb. Great views near the memorial
M. H.
It's a really nice place to visit. On a good day the view is fantastic as are the millennium stones.
N. D.
Always great, but wellington boots/stout boots needed when wet as can be very muddy, good parking, excellent food&warmth available at the Inn!!
C. G.
A unique and very interesting place, which is well maintained with dedicated rangers.
G. S.
A lovely place for a walk. Free parking.
D. C.
Beautiful location for an early morning walk
P. J.
Lots of parking, fantastic views, dog loved it
D. “. G. ツ.
Lovely place to visit, good parking and facilities 🙂👍
J. P.
Not a bad place to walk the mutt.
Reasonable parking.
Good views.
n. p.
Fantastic place to walk around. Great views of the surrounding areas and plenty of places to park. Good choice of walking routes. The pub at the centre is also lovely. Good food.
J. P.
We went on a lovely self guided walk through the park which, although it took us a little longer than we expected, was great nonetheless.
Plenty of interesting things to see and some magnificent views to appreciate, especially Ham Hill war memorial and St Michael’s Hill. (Walking to the top of St Michael’s is not for the faint hearted).
We can recommend this country park.
S. H.
Lovely area kept clean and tidy. Very popular. My kids love it.
E. A.
Great dog walking place and for children. The quarry made good is left with fun stones with holes in them and a mini stone circle like stone henge. The views are incredible but there are also 3 large enclosed fields for dogs, plus woodland walks. The Prince of Wales pub found here is fantastic for a coffee, from early morning, to lunch and dinner. The views again from the pub are gorgeous. Highly recommend.
C. F.
Really great place to walk and blow away the cobwebs. Great views from the war memorial and afterwards stop at the Prince of Wales Pub for a drink and a bite to eat.
Be aware that this is partially a working quarry with stone still be extracted here. There are quite a few steep drops and ledges as a result. Thankfully it seems most of it is done mechanically these days as
any kind of “blasting”and Julie would be upset and probably be off - never to be seen again.
J. B.
Lovely views up here and decent parking and a nice pub close by.
J. S.
Volunteering on Ham Hill is brilliant. Great like-minded people.
A. H.
My uncle is named on the war monument so a return visit for me . Actually well pleased how the area is maintained nice touch of the stone circle .. Well used dog walking area with breath taking views .
M. A.
Beautiful place and wonderful views. Excellent people and dog friendly pub usually filled and surrounded by dogs and their owners -- Great atmosphere. Good pub food too.
The only downside is due to slovenly, selfish people who dump their waste food bags, drink bottles etc anywhere and everywhere
The road is narrow too and needs speed restrictions
T. N.
A beautiful vantage point of Somerset at the same time being geological site.
J. E.
Great place for a picnic, bike ride and to kick the ball with the kids.
N. S.
Since we moved to the area 3 years ago, this has been a regular walk of my family, it is beautifully kept and offers stunning views. Each time we come we explore new areas and constantly surprised by what we find. And to top it off the prince of Wales pub for after walk drinks is fantastic.
Q. C.
My parents took me here regularly to give the dog a run over 45 years ago, this is the first time I've been back since. Stunning views over Somerset. The standing stones are New as I suspect are some of the paths. A nice walk as long or as short as you want. The local pub was very busy which was good to see in this climate.
R. L.
Really nice. Lovely views. Pub on site. Ample parking.
A. S.
In a clear day views are so so lovely. Also dogs are allowed to be off the lead. But there might a lot of them so be aware of that. From some hills Glastonbury can be seen. Right on the top there is a pub. They do serve food, coffee's, cakes, ice cream and etc. Views from outside the pub are also really lovely.
N. C. (.
Lovely park, if you want to patk your car there can be limited spaces on a sunny day
T. R.
Sadly they are quarrying again there so parts of it are really churned up with all the wet weather that we have had this summer. Many of the tracks have become overgrown, again a consequence of the wet summer. It was though still enjoyable and the dog loved it.
P. d. G.
I just love the views of the glory that is Somerset. 🍏🚜🐮🔥
C.
Beautiful park with views of the Somerset Levels. Well maintained with notices of upcoming events, picnic benches, plenty of parking spots and public toilets. Great place to visit with family, dogs and/or for a run. Can be quite windy!
s. f.
Love this place. Good for dog walking, bird watching and getting some pea.
r. d.
Brilliant place to explore. The quarry, Victorian spoil heaps, the Stone circle and the War memorial are amazing. The views are worth the walk up to the top.
D. G.
The most beautiful setting and the best place to take the family (age one to ninty nine). Lots of lovely walks and places for the children to explore and when you've had enough, head to the pub. Definitely my go to place to remind myself that there's beautiful all around us.
T. C.
Attended a very interesting and informative talk on astronomy at the Ham Hill Centre this evening.
S. D.
Stunning views and a lovely walk.
N. S.
Lovely place. plenty of car parks. Definitely check out the Prince of Wales pub for a refreshing drink - the food is good aswell
K. F.
Beautiful natural surroundings to walk about. Always changing terrain due to the quarry digging which is fascinating to see. Lovely old stones and features of the Iron Age hill Fort and abundance of wildlife to spot. Even got free bbqs to use with picnic benches in one area near the pub Prince of Wales.
J. H.
One massive playground! There are great walks around the ancient fort, quarries and woodland with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. Picnic benches and BBQ pits are provided with a pub at its heart. Great for dog walkers and children of all ages.
J. L.
Visited here while staying in the area, to walk our dog. Bit of a hassle getting up to the area, tight roads and very windy, steep lanes. However free parking, wonderful views and walking. Dog walking heaving. There is off road parking if you don't turn off to the Country Park centre too. Loo's by the Rangers office, water tap, and picnic benches. Plenty of dog waste bins along the different routes.
There is also a pub nearby, which appeared to be very popular.
Definitely worth a visit, if you are in the area.
S. F.
Nice walk
M. D.
A brilliant place to walk your dogs. Parking is free and there are interesting winding walks with things to stumble upon. For those with active dogs (or children) there are some large fields to trek across. I believe that at some times during the year there are livestock in these fields and are therefore off limits to dogs for obvious reasons. After your walk you can pop into the Prince of Wales pub for a meal.
A. F.
Historical country park with beautiful views. Great for family walks/dog walks. Has a pub with outdoor seating that is fab for a refresher after a long stroll. Lots of free parking and public toilets. Definitely worth a visit.
A. E.
Beautiful area for a day out with amazing views and helpful rangers.
G. B.
It is a beautiful country park. Plenty of space for dogs children and adults to explore. Good countryside management. Has a good pub there too or take a picnic.
A. H.
Good place to get out and about walking. Far reaching views across Somerset to the Mendips and the Blackdown hills on clear days. There are toilet facilities and a good pub serving the usual pub food, good quality too. Beware steep drops and sheer cliff faces as this has been a quarry since Roman times.
L. M.
Absolutely lovely place for a good walk whether you have dogs or not...and you can stop in at the pub for a pint or some lunch afterwards. Although avoid if you are unsure about cows as they are allowed to roam around most of the walk as it is gated!
A. E.
Found no ham at the top, but did find a really awesome view!!
E. S.
Fab for all the family, very muddy on occasions.
S. J.
Great pub, good food, dogs welcome and catered for. Lovely walks, brilliant views. Something for everyone.
R.
Nice place to have a picnic and walk, interesting with great views. There are some cows so watch out for waste but not much at all it's well maintained. Also nice little pub next to the carpark.
M. B.
Amazing wildlife, lots and lots of different pathways leading to different beauty spots. Pub is great. Lots of great features.
S. O.
Lovely little area. Kids loved the stone circle and surrounding area. Nice little walk with adequate parking
J. A.
The UK's largest Iron Age hill fort. Walking around here really places you in the footsteps of the Ancestors. Stunning views, nice short and long walks. Dog friendly and just an incredible place.
T. H.
Huge country park on top of a hill with long distance views of South Somerset. Stone fro quarries on the hill built many of the local villages
K. H.
Beautiful park for a walk, plenty of benches for a picnic and hills for young kids to run up and down. Can stop and admire the view with an ice cream or go to the pub.
M. G.
Free and fantastic day out . The children fossil hunt, play football, climb hills, ride their bikes and the dog follows them. Lovely but very busy pub there too.
G. W.
Love it, plenty of parking, amazing view(on a clear day), pub for refreshments and different routes to walk.
There is now a children's play area down the steps from the pub.
D. M.
Great walks. The views were amazing, especially when the sun started to set.
F. M. (.
Incredible place... a country park and live quarry. Landscape changes each time we visit. Beautiful hamstone land markings and a view to die for.
B. D.
I didn't stay long it was very hot, I didn't venture any further than the picnic area. We had a nice picnic but it was very hot, fortunately we brought our own shade because whilst there were plenty of picnic benches there was a lack of shade.
D. P.
Rilly nice walk around Nice and quiet
C. R.
Nice park but fairly short walk on the actual hill. Next time I'll definitely include some of the surrounding fields or a visit to the pub.
K. A.
Love Ham hill park. A favourite. Great to explore. Good for families and groups. Great for hide and seek. Although watch the children don't go too far. It's pretty vast.
C. C.
Fabulous place for a nice walk in some stunning countryside
M. D.
Ham Hill has a great mixture of different recreation areas for different groups. The rangers are always helpful. The activities put on are interesting.
The only downside is the lack of access for those with limited mobility, most of the place is effectively off limits to us.
H. G.
Plenty of free parking. Great for dog walking. Many different types of walks, eg flat, hilly, woodland, open fields etc. Dog friendly pub that does food.
T. R.
Stunning views, lovely walk plenty of dog waste bins and a lovely little pub to refresh you and your dog, highly recommend.

P. P.
A site of iron age hillfort and a quarry, which is still in use today. Beautiful views, lots of interesting archaeology and a lovely pub within the fort itself. A great place to visit
P. G.
Amazing views, good walks, fairly level, several car parks which I imagine get packed on a Summer weekend.
J. N.
Not very impressed, a map was available but not easy to follow, maybe signposting and arrows around would make it easier for people to find the various parts of the park.
R. G.
Ham hill is a very nice country park. Great for walking your dogs, and the pub (the prince of Wales) is a great place to stop off for a nice cold pint of cider.
M. G.
