Reviews of Kingsgate Park.
B. S.
A nice little park with a play area, pond or two and outdoor gym stations, among other things. Has a great carved tree trunk with some really detailed work. 👍 Toilets available by a small car park.
E. H.
Lovely park! Good amount of space, you'll find various children's play facilities, toilets, an ice cream van (weather dependent), plenty of fallen trees for kids to climb on and hills to roll down - as well as a small manmade stream area for kids to paddle in. There's a large lake with swans and ducks, and if you're needing refreshments, there's a pub and a coffee shop at one side.
Not sure if there's an official car park but we managed to find somewhere free on one of the side streets.
A. S.
Great park with something for everyone in the family. Big play area with lots to keep kids entertained for a long time.
Good spread of lawns and beautiful pond with lovely ducks. Toilets were very clean too. The parking though can be difficult to find which isn't necessarily a bad thing as it limits the no. of people at any given time.
M. W.
Ideal, safe location, very popular with families, large play area, picnic tables, lots of seating, large duck pond with plenty of wildlife, variety of trees to provide shade. Local cafe just a few mins walk from the Park itself, excellent food, cakes, coffee and tea, always full. Well worth a trip as a family
C. H.
Great Park to stroll round but the centre piece is the large playground. Suitable for 2 years old up to teenagers. Nice lake you are able to walk round with an ambundance of life
P. G.
Lovely park with a big play area for children. Nature area. It has a small lake with various birds e.g. ducks and swans. Large grassy areas for picnics. Mature trees provide shade in grassy areas if needed. No dedicated parking so you will need to find on street parking near one of the entrances.
j.
Very good play area for children, the section for little ones is separate. includes adult fitness area. Small lake complete with lots of swans and ducks when I visited. Finally, there's an excellent cake and coffee shop (vintage bird cage) which usually has a sit down area, but not during the lockdown.
A. G.
Small, beautiful, award winning park, a popular space and great example of how a town park can really work for a community with a lovely pond, play area, exercise equipment and an adjoining pub and cafe.
Limited parking, but only a short walk from Yate shopping centre parking which gives a few hours free. Though ensure you don't over stay if parking there.
It's a suprisngly lovely space for all the family to enjoy.
J. H.
I visit the park each day & enjoy the walk & people walking their dogs. At the moment watching the swans as the parents are trying to get the last two to fly away. It's such a shame, one got outside park yesterday but someone managed to get it back.
M. G.
Best Park in the area. Fantastic children's area. Plenty of spa e for exercise and close to cycle path and foot paths
B. H. F. B.
Lovely Park with lots of things of interest. A Vast children's play area, with different sections for different ages. Ducks and Swans on the Lake, plenty of seating and open spaces for picnics. Really pleasant.
D. B.
Very lovely park :)
A. W.
Nice walk on a lovely day, good Park with a great play area for children and a good place to walk the dog. Bring bird seed to feed the birds around the pond.
A. B.
A very good children's play area, I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. There is plenty of equipment for all ages (even big kids who use their children as an excuse to relieve their childhood). It's a bit muddy, but I suppose that it's a victim of it's own success, the floor being ground up by so many children. A nice touch is the ability to buy seed to feed the ducks. I wasn't able to take many pictures of the equipment as there were too many children using it.
P. B.
Beautiful well kept park. I like to sit by the pond and watch the world go by 🙂
J. A. D.
Pleasant little park to relax by the pond and feed the ducks and swans 🦢🦆
S. M.
Great park, nice lake, lots of benches and shade, great little fountain/stream for paddling and there is loads of kids play equipment. Unfortunately bins are usually overflowing and lots of litter around.
S. R.
Great place in the middle of Yate, I expect it would be even nicer when the sun is out. Hard to park though unless you are visiting the pub or cafe
K. H.
Lovely park something for all age groups with a great play area for toddlers to teenagers. It also has a lovely tea room and a fab pub for the adults. Highly recommend.
E. D.
My 5 year old son loved this place. Lush green grass, lake, pond, hills to run up and roll down and a play area for all ages which lets them grow into each section by ability, age and confidence!
Planning to spend the day next time!
D.
Great park. Lots of things for all ages. Also has a nice place to eat next door
A. R.
What a beautiful place, busy today with people having picnics. Not sure where the toilets are.Bad point it seems that the bins had not been emptied from Friday.
i. a.
It's was a wonderful time to spend here with my Son daughter and grandsons
It's everything to enjoy the day with beautiful sunshine the all colourful trees and flowers
The lake add the beauty
K. S.

M. R.
Lovely park in the middle of town brass band playing this Sunday
S. h.
Great place. Lovely pond. Cafe not to good. Waited for 20 minutes after being ignored.
c. l.

S. T.
Lovely park, great place to chill and draw the park, and if you're lucky you'll find sausage dogs😍
T. M.
Lovely park, great play area for the kids although not much car parking spaces
L. E.
Kids loved it, loads of space, lots of different things to climb on and a little gym in the middle too.
C. N.
Great park, lots to do for kids with different areas for playing, walking and spotting wildlife.
A. W.
Lovely large park with lots to do, beautiful :)
G. W.
Great park, with plenty of play equipment for kids and a nice pond. Perfect for a family afternoon out!
J. M.
Great little park for a walk and it's a bonus that the birdcage is on its doorstep
M. W.
Lovely park , plenty of room for children to run around and walk your dogs , really well kept , clean and tidy , the play park has different spaces for older and younger children , plenty of seating areas and picnic tables to use , lots of wildlife. Coffee shop , that does take away and sit down snacks, it was a lovely day out all round 😊
G. C.
Good place to spend the day with kids, friends and family. Nice play area.
A. H.
A wonderful oasis of calm in Yate. Lovely lakeside area to walk around. Plenty of benches to be able to take a moment's pause. The play area is always really popular with children of all ages. For the adults, there is outdoor gym equipment. The addition of the tree sculpture has really been a pleasure to examine and pick out all the details. This park can absorb a lot of people and never feels "full"
J. C.
Lovely place for a short walk and great children's play area. Coffee shop and pub nearby, can't go wrong!
M. C.
Pond in shocking condition and beautiful swans aren't there anymore..I'm a foreign traveler and was so looking forward to seeing the beautiful swans 😔
S. M. (.
Excellent wheelchair access, a family friendly for all ages
Z. I.
Love taking the kids here, great climbing for adults too
A. S.
Lovely park, perfect for picnic, play time and relax
A. R. P. (.
Love to just sit by the big pond and watch the ducks and swans whilst hubby watches over little one in the 2 play areas. Nice and relaxing.
G. G.
A beautiful park with open spaces, a lake children's play areas, a nearby pub and cafe. A great place to take the family.
T. D.
Great, spacious area for playing walking, running exercising bigger than it looks from the entrance
C. O.
It's a nice park for dog walking.
N. S.
Easily accessible park with plenty of equipment for children and exercise equipment too. Lovely pond where the ducks come to say hello. Nice to have such a lovely cafe close by too that does take away drinks and treats.
M. M.
Highly recommend, a super space for all ages.
A clean, tidy park with lots to explore.
Popular with Dog walkers and families.
This park has an extensive adventure playground for older children and a separate space for younger children. There is also a basket ball court and gym equipment.
Sit and watch the family of swans and see all the ducks too.
It also has a small car park and public toilets.
There is also The Vintage Birdcage Cakery just off the park which does excellent cakes, coffee, lunches, afternoon tea (pre booking required), etc. (VBC is not part of the park and I have reviewed it separately.)
J. C.
Good play areas for both younger and older children. However, in these strange times of social distancing there were too many people and children in the play areas for us to feel comfortable. It was nice seeing the family of swans on the lake and the ice cream van was taking contactless payments, so not a complete waste of time!
S. G.
Great park with plenty of space. Picnic benches and things for kids to do. Lots of birds and squirrels about.
Good place to walk the dog.
Big pond with ducks and swans, ducks will happily feed near by when offered food.
There is a cafe and pub near by for food and drink.
D. E.
Really great place for kids of all ages. Lots of fun equipment, big duck pond, next door to a cafe/bakery (the bird cage) and has toilets. Aice cream man frequently attends!!
R. M.
I think it was good. It had a playground also with a nice big grass to play with your family.
R. B.
Absolute gem of a park tucked away a few minutes walk to the south of the town centre. Great kid's play area with equipment for a full range of ages from toddler to teenager and a new adult exercise equipment area installed early in 2020. There are variety of species of huge mature trees providing plenty of shade and a beautiful recent wood sculpture by local artist Andy O'Neill. Though the play park is often busy there are plenty of quieter spots too, a pretty lake with wildfowl to walk round and more natural areas to explore and bug hunt in around the edges.
Immediately adjacent and accessible from the park are the lovely Vintage Birdcage Cakery cafe and lively Stanshawes pub with great outdoor space. Parking in the courtyard is for customers only though so you'll need to log your registration with the cafe. Parking for the Kingsgate park itself is very limited (c.8 spaces accessible from Elmwood, adjacent to the toilet block). Please be considerate when leaving your vehicle on residential side streets.
A. D.
A good size, seemingly away from Yate because of its positioning. I came here right at the end of November but obviously it wasn't very green, but I can totally imagine it being quite beautiful in the spring/summer. Its worth noting too that I came during lockdown#2 so it was possibly much quieter than it would normally be. A couple of well sized ponds complete with (if you're lucky) a few swans! The park also has a nicely laid out playground for the kids & a small workout area complete with outdoor machines. Hopefully I'll come back when it's warmer & greener someday....
J. G.
Wide range of things for kids to do!! Highly recommended!!
S. D.
Love kingsgate park. Such different frames and obstacles for the kids. Quite a few out of action at the moment, bit of age and damage. Good areas for younger kids, nice basketball/football court. Nice walk around the lake as well
c. A.
Lovely park, big play area with swings etc. and plenty of space to kick a ball around, a few picnic tables dotted around, also a lake with swans and ducks. Really well maintained. On the sides of the park is a pub and a beautiful cafe called the Birdcage, Both accessible from the park.
E. D.
This is a good park for everyone to visit. Dog's are very welcomed here too.
There's a brilliant play area for kids, young and old, to play around in, and there is a pond also.
Adjacent to the park, there is a pub and also a cafe, which has been opened recently.
All in all, well worth a visit
R. M.
Great Park for the kids, and adults picnicking
W. M.
Small park next to Stanshawe Court pub (currently closed). Plenty of swings and a nice walk around the lakes and nature reserve. I've Cream van today and Birdcage cafe open. Bust but plenty of space away from play areas.
A.
Been going to this park for many, many decades! There's isn't anywhere to match it for many miles. If I had to moan about anything it would be about the state of the footpath around the lake, very dire in places! It's not a problem in the summer as you can walk on the grass but come winter the path has several "ponds"to cross!!! That said it's still a fabulous park for all, one of the best!
R. B.
Lots of green for picnics. Good walk. Excellent playing facilities for all ages of children. Variety of trees and flowers. Well kept. Lake with swans, ducks popular with all ages. Seats and picnic tables around the park.
S. S.
Went there with a 4 year old, attractive lake with some water foul. Picnic benches in partial shade, great children's play area also in partial shade. Park was well kept with very little litter.
C. H.
Nice park. Really good play equipment for all ages. A duck pond, green areas for football, paths for scootering along. Tables for picnics.
Toilets not great that's the only down side.
D. W.
Great place for kids! Lovely park. Good for picnic with family.
C. P.
Lovely well looked after local Yate Park with a very nice treetop adventure playground for the kids.
Great place for a wonder around with the children in the summer, take some food for the swans, ducks and wildfowl on the lake at the far end of the park.
There is also a nice pub adjacent to the park with its own garden leading into the park. Also a very very nice tea room selling freshly made cakes and other moreish delights.
G. K.
Very pleasant park near the busy shopping mall. Too bad, that it is quite small. It has a funky playground, which is unfortunately closed due to the Covid-19 situation. Moreover, there is a small pond with plenty of ducks and swans. Also, check out the statue, which was carved out of a dead oak tree!
L. P.
Beautifully kept by the local authorities and the 'Friends' of Kingsgate Park. Lovely lakes with ducks, swans, moorhens, coots etc. Newts are plentiful too. There are good quality well-maintained children's play areas for different age groups. Parking is scattered around the residential area. The Stanshawe's Court Hotel (pub and facilities establishment) is adjacent. A gorgeous historic building perfect for a drink and/or a bite to eat with regular special offers. Dogs are allowed but must be leashes and cleaned up after; plentiful dog-waste bins provided.
J. T.
Loved finding out about a 'new' place to play. The equipment was properly challenging and very exciting for my 9 and 6 year old. Found our way to Vintage Birdcage cafe for a bit of cake and there was an ice cream van in the park too. Public toilets were open but in a pretty bad way so best to combine toilet trip with visit to cafe instead.
M. C.
Good range and variety of play areas for kids young and older. Large lake woth ducks, geese and swans.Adult gym equipment also available when lockdown ends.
B. V.
Lovely park with lots of space for picnics and exploring. Great playground, outdoor gym and theres a sweet cafe too.
A. S.
Well looked after park. Excellent facilities for all ages including a large wooden climbing frame and zip write for older children. Large duck pond with lots of wild life and even a couple turtles swimming around
C. S.
A totally blast,fun fair,ice cream van,
Crazy golf course,ltennis courts,nature trails,cafe,indoor seating,paddle boat hire,
Scuba driving lessons, pony rides around park. A cheap fun day out to be had by all.
t. s.
Beautiful setting, very tidy, lots of dog loo bins, lovely play area for toddlers and separate one for older children, beautiful trees, grounds are very well looked after and lake kept nice and clean, lovely swans, ducks, Moorhead, squirrels, and a well stocked best inside and outside cafe in all of the Southwest, very yum yum food and dog friendly, even the dog gets biscuits. I thoroughly recommend it all for everyone.
D. M.
It's an award winning local park that serves visitors from very far away, it has a basketball area, exercise equipment, toddlers area, quiet seating area, all next to an exquisite cafe and a pub. Perfect for a real day out
D. T.
Really lovely setting and a nice walk very very muddy though so make sure kids have got wellies and old clothes. Nice Park and pond
A. P.
Great for kids of all ages. The lake could with a clean though. No parking if you are not local.
R.
One of the best free parks i have ever been too. Equipment for toddlers to 10 year olds nice separated. The raised walkway and equipment is particularly impressive and my 6 year old twins love it, although are not brave enough to complete yet. A must go in fair weather in Yate. Often an ice cream van when I have visited on Saturdays.
J. M.
Such a nice place to walk dogs. Great stuff for kids to do there. Beautifully maintained park with big pond in the centre which is home to lots of ducks and swans.
S. V.
Beautiful lake with swans and ducks, good seating, look for vintage birdcage cafe near play equipment for amazing food and coffee, dogs allowed but please dont let them near wildlife on lake!
S.
Cracking park with a great play area. Excellent wooden climbing frame for kids of 5 to 99! Basketball area, football area. Separate area for youngsters away from the climbing frame with swings and other play equipment. Pond at the back with swans and ducks, as well as lots of open spaces and a great rolly polly hill! Always has an ice cream van, and there is a pub backing on to the park for a sneaky beer or two! Also a small stream for little ones to paddle. Great!
A. W.
A lovely large park right near the town centre. Well designed for children, with a large lake (ducks & swans) and a large adventure playground. Plus a fabulous tea room ( The birdcage) that has won awards.
A. S.
Nice little park with a small lake always with swans and ducks and a children's play area
S. H.
Large park close to the centre of Yate. A great kids play area suitable for 3 age groups, the eldest group having a fantastic wooden assault course through the trees. A beautiful lake with swans nesting quite close to the footpath. Used for big community events - the kids' Easter Egg Hunt organised by the Town Council (and the Friends of the Park?) and for a big annual free music festival in June. Our kids love it
r. b.
Nice area, lake with lots of wildlife on. Large children's play area. The brilliant Birdcage cafe open for takeaways.
J. H.
Great play area. Loads of grassy space to picnic, play footy, cricket etc. Lovely big duck pond to stroll around. Fantastic. Usual public toilets available if unlocked.
T. M.
Love this Park, something to suit all the family. Love the new workout suite!! Always nice to get a cuppa in the Bird Cage cafe nearby. Kids love the climbing structures.
S. P.

K. S.
Cracking little park, loads of stuff for the kids to play on, duck pond with plenty of wildlife but very limited parking. Grew up climbing the trees here so 5 stars all day long
j. s.
Great park. Lots to do for a mix of ages. Great for dogs but obviously they aren't allowed in the play area. Lovely dog friendly cafe nearby
D. M.
Nice park for the kids to play in, large duck pond and an open air gym. There are often events here like a free Easter egg hunt every year.
E. W.
Great park. Lots to do for kids of all ages. And a great pub next door for food and drink. Also a lovely little cafe. Also great food and a lovely friendly welcome.
K. H.
Love this Park, large, all age groups can enjoy, clean, food on site and massive shopping area 5 minute walk away. Spend a whole day here no problem.
S. S.
Nice and tranquil place to relax.
C. H.
Beautiful place. Youvepildmt realise how pretty and big it is unless you go.
Set between houses, there's a huge duck pond, massive kids play park. There's almost like 3 separate ones for all ages. It's fenced off so dogs can't get in.
On that subject, there are alot of dogs but I've never had a bad experience and my dog loves it.
In the summer they have a music festival. It's toasted by a local religious community I think! I'm not really into that but they have love music and other bits to do so it is worth checking out.
R. P.
Great park.
Pity some are not abiding to the guide lines
For number of people.
4 couples and children in a one group.
Well done who ever you are.
Dont moan when the if the lockdown becomes more strict.
You're the ones that are going to help bring on the second wave of the pandemic.
Should not be in large groups.
V. D.
Good for children,my grandchildren from N.Z. love the long wire journey. Liked ducks, open space, and on such a hot day trees excellent for cover ,Avery relaxing p.m. Also Stanshawes pub nearby enjoyed food'.

D. H.
The children will love it,plenty to do. Nice lake with ducks and swans
H. T. H.
A great park for young families, with a nice pond and a great adventure play park for kids to use and have fun in. For me the thing that lets it down is the dog Walker who let there dogs of the lead and think it's fine for there job to run and jump at you, and then chase kids around.
H. T.
Lovely park great play area for kids and ducks and swan to feed
r. g.
It's got play areas for all ages, close to a really great cafe, bird cage cafe, great cakes and milkshakes!
Nice lake to walk about lots of green space too

Has a duck pond, extensive playground and benches for picnics. Woodland area is full of wildlife. Recommended.
S. “. O.
The team that runs the Park are always doing some fantastic family friendly events. It's a good location not too far from the shopping centre and it has a great park for young and slightly older which is often maintained.
If you're a Pokémon Go user there's two pokestops and one pokegym so you'll spend a while running between them and the not so far from that location either.
Host to Easter events, Yate Rocks and a swan feeding pond (with food sold at a very close establishment) there's always something to do.
Q. B.
It's a nice park, well looked after and the pond looks nice. The dog enjoyed himself but was a closer call for him not to jump in the pond.
K. D.
Good for kids to get out and have fun, can be muddy in the wet weather, lots of climbing stuff to do, nice pond with Swans and ducks
S. O.
Our family love this place. It has a play area for children of varing ages, a pond & wildlife area, a pub for coffes & drinks, cycle tracks, a cafe for cakes & tea, music festivals, regular ice cream van during sumer and is central to Yate. Recommend for a picnic or just a stroll.
R.
Nice big open spaces to walk your dog or have a game of some kind, good park areas too for both the older and younger kids
S. D.
Good clean park with plenty for the kids to play on
J. C.
Good range of things for all ages of kids to do, with grassy areas and a pond, although reasonable parking for those driving from further afield is difficult to find easily.
j. g.
Nice park with loads to do. Dog friendly and a nice walk around the lake. Great little cafe called vintage bird cage which is also dog friendly.
P. E.
Lovely park with super play areas for small children and bigger kids. Nice pond with swans and a local cafe which is just thru a gate l9vely cakes and coffee
G. D.
Beautiful place to visit and walk around, lovely scenery, kids playground too perfect for all the family
J. N.
Lovely park for kids to play and feed the ducks!
m. j.
Love this park, it's local to me and my family, caters for all ages....it is easy to keep an eye on more than one child if needed in the play areas, which are mostly flat...
There is usually an ice cream van parked there, and a lake with ducks, swans etc.
There is a large pub adjoining it and also a very pleasant tea room with parking for both.
R. H.
Kingsgate Park is a lovely local park in Yate. It is the best park in my opinion in Yate. The park is always really well maintained and kept well. The grounds of the park are lovely and the lake is home to some stunning swans, ducks and newts. There is a larger play area for older children as well as a smaller play area for younger children. There is a concrete basketball court / football pitch and also plenty of seating around the park. Each year Yate Town Council hosts Yate Rocks which is a free musical festival at Kingsgate Park for all the family, with dance from local clubs and academies, children's games and activities, arts & crafts and community stalls offering a wide range of local products and there are plenty of stalls where you can buy soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and food. Kingsgate Park also hosts a free annual Easter Egg Extravaganza with an egg hunt and a bonnet parade which is hosted by Yate Town Council in conjunction with The Friends of Kingsgate Park. Kingsgate Park is accessible on foot by various entrances from Kenilworth, Elmwood, Sunningdale and Scott Way. There is also a small car park located at the end of Elmwood, off Sundridge Park where you can park your car and enter the park. I really like Kingsgate Park and I think it is perfect for all ages. There are lots of trees where you can take shelter under which provide good shade on sunny days. The eastern edge of the park is a dedicated nature reserve area.
O. C.
Lovely park with two large playground for all ages. There's also a big lake with birds and a cafe nearby.
J. M.
A great play area for children. For young ones and for older children. A lovely cafe just by the park. A relatively big duck pond. Grass area for picnics.
A. W.
It's a Shame they haven't fixed the broken parts of the park.
C. B.
A pleasant park, with a lake and a pond, good childrens adventure play area. The Birdcage cafe is great, serves good food at very reasonable prices in great surroundings. The lake and ponds are remnants of the celastine mining which took place in the are in the past, and are often host tio intersting visiting waterbirds over the wintr period. rSometimes you can find a crystal of celastine on the ground,
D. B.
Great local park, climbing equipment for most ages
T. F.
Brilliant clean park. Plenty of room for everyone and even a pond with ducks in. Only down side is on the odd occasion you get equipment broken due to teenagers.
J. R.
A really nice park with great facilities. Very clean and well maintained.

Great Park for kids where you can spend more than 1hr without them getting bored.
P. P.
Really fun place to take the kids in the sunshine. So much space for them to run around in, and a good range of play equipment for various ages of children
E. G.
Beautiful place to walk and for kids to play fantastic duck pond only thing I will say is you get a lot of elderly walking around the pond and I think the paths up around the top are quite bumpy and definitely a trip hazard and bumpy for pushchairs as well apart from that I really enjoy the walk around the park on a daily basis .
C. A.
Relaxing enviroment and a great place to let your kids to run, play and enjoy the nature. Lovely ponds and more to see :-)
S. P.
A great place for families with children of all ages, safe play area with challenging equipment for older children, nature reserve for little explorers and plenty of seating around the pond
D. B.
Great park with great playground, but removed one star, because the toilets seem to be closed most of the time and the boys then have to find a tree ;-)
S. T.
What a great park that is for me it holds so many really nice memories as when i was growing up that was one of the places we all went to during the warm summer holidays. For example playing on the swings in the play park (Next to the toilets and car park as it was then) the 2 hills next to the pond is where we used to go to race down on our wooden go carts. Go swimming in the pond or "boating lake" as it was called then.
Climb the trees in "Stanshaws woods" Listen to the music coming out of Stanshaws hotel on those warm summer evenings. In October conker collecting. I lived all my young life very close to the park oh how it as changed over the years for the better of course.
We sure never had ducks and swans on the pond then thats for sure. My age now nearly 57 years old. I moved in to Yate when kingsgate park was a field with 2 white ponies in it and i have 8mm film showing me at 3 years old feeding them bread where the gates to the park now stand in Sunningdale. Happy days. :)

It's a park. Has trees and a pond, and the swans are not aggressive. Sometimes there's an ice cream van. However chances are that if you've been sad for a while, you'll probably still be sad when you get there. Worth a shot
