Reviews of St Mary's Multi-storey Car Park

It’s a decent car park, it’s more roomy than some of the other car parks and doesn’t have steep inclines - a benefit if you’re no good at hill starts when congested! The price isn’t too bad but could be cheaper. Paying is easy though through MiPermit, just put in your registration plate & pay through your phone… you can extend your time if you’re running late too. Town centre is just over the bridge and past the Mercury Theatre so it’s in an ideal location.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a multi-story car park and let me tell you, it was an experience like no other. From the moment I entered the garage, I was struck by the impressive array of vehicles on display. From sleek sports cars to rugged trucks, there was a little bit of everything.
But the real highlight of my visit was the stair walk up to the top level. The views of the city from the top floor were breath-taking, and I couldn't help but snap a few pictures to share with my friends.
But don't just take my word for it, go check out this multi-story car park for yourself. You won't be disappointed. Just make sure to bring your driver's license and a sense of adventure. Trust me, you won't find a more exciting way to park your car.

Easy central location for parking. If you wins round and then take the ramp as of coming back out the car park, you can park near the bridge leasing across the road and through the Roman gateway into the city centre. You get a fine view of Jumbo and some local history thrown in too!
Parking charges easily paid via MiPermit app.

Spaces are a bit small but this is our go to car park for Colchester Town centre. Always got a space even when there is a weekend event on. Approx 10 mins to walk to the castle and close by to anywhere in the town centre. Pay via the app or on card via the machine. Not overly expensive but not cheap either.

Hard to find as most car parks in Colchester are due to abysmal signage and those closest to town centre are tucked away in side streets. The satnav (and google maps) tries to take you the wrong way at a roundabout. The first time we parked here for the 6th form open evening in October 2021 we spent 50 mins going round and round in monstrous traffic jams following car park signs but never finding any including this one until we ignored both satnav & Google maps and just followed the roads on the map without "navigating". I can only assume Colchester council while giving the correct address have the wrong postcode or are deliberately trying to put drivers off going into the town centre as do Chelmsford and a couple of other towns in the county.

Easy to find, easy to get to and 'usually' plenty of spaces. Some spaces by the pillars are a little bit of a tight squeeze but the location for town and amenities is very good also.

The cheapest place to park for a night in Colchester..park after 6pm and it's £2 all night (till 6am) so no hurry to get back to you're car if you're out having a meal or get together.

Good car park. Pricing is good and nice access to the town center. Just try to avoid the stairwells!

Best place to park in Colchester on an evening, parking from 6pm to 6am is just £2 ...nice
r.
Great for access to the town, spaces a bit narrow which causes people to try to park in the middle space as the concrete pillars are a little too close
S. J.
Good lighting. Creepy at night. New way of paying by card only if you have the one you can tap. Not happy as if I was alone I would not be able to pay.
C. K.
Park here usually because it’s much cheaper than other options, about a 5 minute walk across the bridge to the high street. Pay and display and had quite a lot of trouble getting the machine to operate with card, had to try about 5 times, the spaces are small and corners tight as this is an older car park. But luckily got a parent child spot so could easily access to my kid

It's a car park. You park your car there! Yes sometimes it is smelly but you don't hang around. It's very handy for town shopping. Payment system is very temperamental. Therefore if you have a smart phone it is far better to download the app. You can then extend your time if need be and avoid panicking about getting back on time.

Spacious and almost urine stench free. It didn't feel like a post apocalyptic Mad Max film that most carparks have. Relatively good value in terms of having your pants pulled down financially.
K. D.
It's a carpark. Disappointed you have to pay on Sundays. Basic.
L. S.
Giving a really high rating because prepaid with Mercury Theatre and had all day parking for £2.50 brilliant as it costs that on the day for 1hr.
J. B.
Not great if you have a big car. Signage could be improved and the cleanliness of the stairs was sub par.
J. P.
Clean carpark, spaces very narrow.
N. S.
Easy to find, good location for walking into the town centre, wasn’t difficult to find a free space, decent enough prices too. My only niggle was the fact the spaces felt a little bit tight. Watch out for the columns!
K. A.
It alright but parking space are super awkward that my suv won't fit where all piller in way. Only fit in is little or mini car to get in. Good place to park near across Bridge to pub
S. g.
wonder when the car parks in central colchester plan to install EV charging points ? Colchester has plenty of points up near the A12 - but thats no good for shopping unless you want to use the park n ride - is that the strategy for Colchester - keep the EV's out of town n let the smelly diesels into the town centre to poison everyone

Not bad pricing and in close proximity to the high street and the Mercury theatre only downside is that some of the ticket machines don't work occasionally, however there is an app you can use as an alternative.
A. T.
Apart of being in the proximity of downtown ( which is the main reason we're using it! ), the place itself is dirty, dark ! ( if you accidentally drop something on the floor, e.g car keys, your park ticket...) you must use a serious source of light to find that thing..) , as well as your most likely will find the closest park ticket dispenser out of service or unresponsive or, even worse it doesn't release your park ticket....after you already paid....
P. W.
It's a carpark, not much to say.
T. M.
Nice quiet car park and Bering remodel at the moment but still lots of space and good value car park
A. E.
Convenient for the Arts Centre and west side of the town centre.
J. C.
Great car park with good access to the town and Mercury theatre
S. B.
Narrow spaces and scary curbs on the way in and out (not sure why so many car park designers hate alloy wheels!). But it is handy if you don't mind those drawbacks.
N. G.
It's a car park, what more can I say, didn't smell of wee in the stairwells, not to expensive and close to town.
T. T.
Make sure you read the ticket before you display it. When you can't read it properly the parking attendant also can't read it so he will give you z ticket.
k. b.
Easy access for town and well priced
R. X.
I'm only giving 5 stars because the smell of the stairways were so enchanting and soul cleansing wish glade made this fragrance so I can enjoy at home 👍
v. M.
Clean and tidy, secure parking with attendants always around, full tourist parking rates though, £3 per hour adds up a bit
J. L.
It has parking spaces, which is what you want from a car park isn’t it? One star deducted for stairwells that smell of wee.
L. B.
Easy parking near the pedestrian bridge into the town.
R. S.
Great car park with clear instructions of where to pay and easy and efficient ways to pay like contact less card transactions.
T. W.
Great location for town. Parking payment machines need a PhD in computer science, but otherwise a good car park.
C.
It's far more expensive on weekends than all the others, and usually gets filled up quickly. Benefit is that you're a 2 minute walk to the centre of town.
L. H.
Convenient for head Street but very narrow parking bays and dark and dingy. As is St. Johns
B. A.
Still confused why they changed the payment system but convenient for the town and it has been cleaner in recent years
N. B.
It's a car park....not much to say, though it's handy for the town. MiPermit is a bit hit and miss. It can also be a pain to park by the pillars.
D. B.
Nice car park. Never too busy and rates are reasonable
R. M.
Its a carpark, but you can get small vans in it too, marvellous.
L. J.
Not a bad multi storey car park. Cheap enough on weekends
I. B.
Relatively good pricing, just remember to add £0.5 when pre-paying as paying in whole-pounds lands you with costly per-half-hour pricing.
L. P.
Always manage to find a space and we feel safer than on the bus.
G. M.
Expect to find the odd dink as the parking bays are tight
A. W.
Never been to this area of Colchester. Would definitely go again
J. C.
Easy parking for town
Centre shopping . Via a
Pedestrian bridge over main rd.
F. P.
Car park... I parked my car with easy access to the town, what more can I say :)
L. P.
Great car park even though it stinks of urine
D. W.
Convenient for local grammar school and visiting Colchester. Reasonable price as well.
R. B.
Typical multi-storey car park, very narrow spaces
K. G.
OK as a carpark
S. B.
Parking ok, but expensive.
M. B.
Needs work but handly for town
M. M.
Plenty of parking.
J. O. (.
Big spaces and can pay by card or app
D. C.
Can be very expensive. Why charge 2 different rates for weekdays and weekends?
A. M.
It's pay an display, don't forget!!
K. V.
Best priced car park near town
P. C.
Pay and Display, the machines take cash and cards. Can be expensive.
