Reviews of Alvaston Park
L. S.
Lovely place. Nice surprise with the planet trail and cafe. Staff were lovely and opened the toilets back up so my 2 year old potty training son could go!
Note. Toilets close at 4pm
N. H.
Lovely afternoon wander around the pond, lots of sweet babies to see!
Really great amenities, lots of seating, and the gym bit amused my boyfriend for a while.
S. J.
Beautiful park, great playground and outdoor gym. I did the park run here and it was a lovely flat route, it made a great change to Markeaton and I'll definitely go again. Only down side was for some reason the cafe there was shut off so sitting outside was the only option.
K. S.
Lovely place, friendly ducks and birds! Parrots can be spotted as well, definitely recommended to spend free time.
M. S.
Very good Park, Number of facilities including children and Adults.Natural out look.
A. B.
Lovely place to visit. Great facilities and a top notch BMX track.
V. A.
Lovely park and loads of places to sit. The lake is beautiful and the children’s park is lovely, it has a sand pit and lots a little sections for little ones to play. Would be nicer if there was a better cafe there as they have no manners and the coffee is awful.
S. H.
Nice fun fair, decent price to get in and adults are free. Live dinosaur shows are special and great too, kid enjoys it. The playground in the park itself is a good sized one too with lots of facilities for kids to play.
S. S.
Love this park, the football pitches are well looked after and good for walking a small dog on the nicely cut grass.
Lots of lovely separate areas and fabulous trees. Plenty of water birds including geese and swans.
C. S.
A lot has changed here since I was here last ,gone are the boats and the lake is more a wildlife refuge, especially for wild fowl.
A great place to recognise the different types of duck. Tufted,Teal, Mallard, Shoveler,Golden eye,and Widgeon.
Occasionally a Mandarin make a appearance.
The swans look magnificent as they glide across the lake with the weeping willows in the background make a fine photograph.
Squirrels come down from the trees hoping for food from the visitors.
A great place to spend a relaxing hour or two.
There's a little cafe but more investment in this area is desperately needed.
More outdoor seating with tables would be great.
A pier with a cafe and outdoor tables like Attenborough would be nice.
Let's bring Alvaston Lake back to being the place to be.
A great day out.
During the school holidays there is a fair with Dinosaurs.
£7.99 for a wrist band for the children to allow them to go on the rides and slides.
For the adults there's a lovely Coffee Bar that also serves tea and cakes.
A good day out for not a lot of money.
Fair ends August 29th
A. W.
Good place, lots of open space, paths and seats for exercise, walking the dog, relaxing. There's a beautiful lake. There's a cafe, it sells a reasonable range of snacks, ice cream and some hot food, decent coffee. Some vegan options including vegan magnum ice cream.
J. W.
Lovely place to walk. Great skatepark for older children. Fantastic playground for younger ones. Absolutely beautiful
J. L.
Enjoyable all year round park. A great place for daily exercise. BMX track, green gym, football fields. Wide paths for cyclists and a lovely take out cafe. The parking is good and nicely accessible by bus. Nice walks with greenery and flowers and smooth paths for wheelchair users. There are lots of water birds to feed too 🐦🦢🦅
D. W.
Large open space with a lake not far from the river walk. Nice to walk around or just sit and spend sometime watching the world go by.
D. S.
Been coming here all my life , many happy memories as a child and now with my own children , we love walking around the lake, feeding the ducks, having a play on the park and a game of footie or basketball
Nice when the cafe and toilets are open too

It's my oasis in my moments of need to recharge. It has a lovely centre fountain that I never knew was there. It lovely in these summer days

Parkrun is held here every Saturday morning. Not been here for 30 years and wow.... Such a great place nice lake... Bmx track... tennis courts.... cafe.... Football pitches.... Lots of paths to walk. A really nice place
R. C.
A lovely park that's very well maintained.
Hundreds of ducks and swans at the lake and plenty of fish for fishing.
Good skate park and football pitches aplenty
S. T.
I brought my daughter to fun fair event here she really enjoyed her self, we went previous year too. Cant comment for the actual park it self as we only went for the fair but saw a large skate park and plenty green open space that looked good.
A. C.
Alvo park is what it is, a nice space to wander and clear your head, there’s loads of room for football, an outdoor gym, a cafe, large body of water, skate park, BMX track, nature reserve and all the Pokè stops you could need!
P. S.
This is a real big park with loads of greenery all over you see..Small pond with ducks, goose.... Children's play area and tracks for running..Overall it's really a good park for all ages..And they do have activities for kids organized by APF for free!
H. M.
Lovely park with plenty to occupy children: play park, gym, ducks, lots of grassy areas.
The cafe has a range of food and drinks, sure to find something you can enjoy if you haven't packed your own.
Really great that they sell food for the ducks at 50p a bag. Too much bread isn't good for them, so I like this option.
J. G.
We had a nice walk round the pond. We fed the ducks and swans. It was fresh but enjoyable. It was also nice to see people sailing their boats.
G. C.
Lovely place for a walk, nice like with birds, a huge playground for the kids, sports area
L. K.
I have been walking these grounds for years and it is still a lovely and peaceful place with lots of trails. Needs a bit of upkeep here and there but it is still a lovely place to go. My kids love it.
F. N.
Love this Park, perfect views for a quick morning walk
B. A. M.
Is a nice public park. There some tennis courts, outdoor gym, and tracks to walk or jogging. Is quiet and peaceful.
E. B.
What a fantastic idea to just charge one payment for each child £8 for the fair, and they could go on any ride as many times as they like. Parking is free too xx
s. i.
My favourite park in derby. Location is not too far from city centre. I play alot of tennis so its the perfect spot for me to go. Big play area and lots of fun and exciting things to do for the kids.
I. C.
Very pleasant to walk around all the park. Swings and all sorts of fun things to do from toddlers to retirees. Tennis court, baseball nets, football pitches and outdoor gym. Also a cafe which is essential for a park with so much to do. You also have the lake and cycle paths. A good cheap day out for all the family.
P. G.
Great park, with plenty of good routes and paths around the site. Children's play area has a good variety of equipment including a nice covered area to sit in some shade.
M. I.
Great park, especially for little ones. My 2 year old likes to walk around the park to find the planets, he enjoys the play areas and absolutely loves feeding the ducks!! We have to do it every time we visit! It's one of his very favourite places to be
D. M.
Lovely park, very popular as there were a lot of people there. Lots to do and I particularly enjoyed the lake as I spotted a fair few birds ❤️
R. D.
Beautiful park with river, lake and fishing spots, a fantastic always open bmx race track and club. Easy bike ride into Derby alongside river.
v. F.
One of my favourites. Lovely walks, lots of waterfowl and naughty Canada Geese. Basic but good cafe which serves snacks and hot drinks alongside ice cream etc.
D. T.
Quite a big Park with a good sized car park, it has a few football pitches a nice looking play area for the kids a nice sized lake where you can buy bird food from the cafe to feed the ducks the cafe seemed good only had a cuppa and bacon cob but was very good.
There's plenty of wildlife about and you can even walk down by the river derwent
C. M.
Very good park, large children play area. Also as a cafe and toilets. Well worth a visit.
O. A.
It has besutiful scenery, spacious to accommodate all outdoor activities and accessible with free car parking. I was thoroughly impressed.
C. B.
Several fields with football goal posts, a play area, tennis courts, basketball hoops, a leisure centre and a lake full of ducks. Great for regular dog walks. Some people have reported 'trouble' here but I've never experienced any, even with the occasional late night walk. The park is generally well maintained but as with any public place some ***** think it's fine to throw litter.
W. B.
Great park with lovely playground for kids although could do with a few more play equipment. The lake is beautiful ~ we had a lovely time
M. A.
Lovely place for a walk.
The family all enjoyed it
C. G.
Played tennis free of charge with my daughter. Booked on Lta. Derby parks charging 5 pounds an hour for Darley park courts yesterday, for the same, granted more impressive views but even so, Alvaston perfectly adequate
R. M.
Beautiful place, visited to do the park runs and you forget how nice the surroundings are
Updated, still as beautiful. Visiting loads more with the weekend park runs that are run here.
Still amazing and beautiful
H. P.
First time ever going to this park, what a great place to take the kids and walk round the lake
K. D.
Ive not been here for some years and had forgot just how nice the lake was. The birds are wonderful and really nice them being so tame they let you walk close to them even though they have chicks. Will be going again very soon.
s. d.
I Loved All The Nice People there and how cheap it was. My children loved the park and ducks
B. A.
Beautiful park with awesome scenery and a lake. Nice walking path and a play area for kids.
Z. C.
I just love going for a walk here. Loads of benches to appreciate the view.
M. B.
Great place to get some fresh air with a national BMX track and skateboard Street course along with Adidas outdoor gym (closed at the moment), mini boasting lake and football fields. There's even a cafe for refreshments.
A. W.
Easy to park. Nice for a quick stroll around with my dog. You can also access the park by the river and either head into town or down towards Elvaston Castle for a longer walk (though that would obviously not be a circular walk!) there are toilets and a cafe. And a duck pond.
M. S. A.
Park is now upgraded. Very nice playing area for kids, light weight gym area and a pond with loads of geese, ducks and swans. My little one loves it here.
G. B.
Free parking, cafe and toilets, and a nice place for a walk around the lake, with a new water fountain. You can also feed the birds or picnic.
m. m.
children playing area, bmx track, parking, lots of space for a walk with a dog, clean, lake with ducks and swans, warm food, but didn't eat there yet
J. W.
Decent enough park in a busy East Midlands city. Quiet undulating terrain with reasonably disabled friendly walks. Centrepiece is the lake attracting many birds (of the feathered variety....!) The River Derwent meanders by as well. Great kids play area, small 'science park', outdoor gym equipment and BMX site too. Good plentiful parking and nice little cafe for refreshment.
*************
Baby ducklings recently pictured with their Mother.
D. E. M.
I loved this gorgeous place. This Peaceful spot is my favourite.
R. A.
Great place to relax by the lake and at the same time kids got massive park to wander and play.
F. J.
Lovely park . 1st ever visit today on a windy wet cold February day . Even in bad weather I can see what a great park it is so I will return. Saw some walking and cycling paths to city and Little Eaton so I'll walk those on a better day . Lovely big lake. Didn't find cafe today so I will next visit.
N.
Fun Fair and Dinosaurs was there, decent for kids.
Nice pond to walk round, has on site toilets and a cafe, plenty of free parking, big BMX track and football pitches
Place is kept clean
D. E.
Lovely park, with lots to do. Nice cafe with friendly staff
P. D.
A nice area, for a walk around the lake. My son enjoyed the play area
K. W.
Free parking, a decent sized playground, big "lake" with lots of water birds. Our daughters love this park

e. l. N. s.
It's very beautiful park very big very clean to do picnic and plenty of space for kids to play good rides beautiful water pound and ducks I always have a great experience to visit this park
g. h.
Lovely place, nice afternoon out with the children. Good bmx track perhaps a little snack shack for refuelling down that end of the parkwould be a good idea. Nice small cafe with extra outdoor seating.
M. 0.
Car parking, bmx track, cafe, small lake, cycle paths and lovely walks which connect through derby. Big fields to walk the dogs: but avoid the footy games at the weekend: it gets busy. The 'Alvaston Pirates' captain their remote control boats on the water which is great to see. There are swans and ducks and various wildlife around the water!
L.
Really nice park with great views especially in the summer.
R. W.
Lovely park for walking the dogs or doing recreational activities, with a BMX track and skate park,4 large fields that are home to football matches on weekends. The lake is a beautiful walk and has been wonderfully maintained by the Elvaston Fishing club.
M.
I've always liked Alvaston park and lake for a pleasant walk. Plenty for kids to do around the park. The play area is always busy so that must be a good sign. Getting too and from the carpark can be a problem if its peak time before and after a football session as there are seemingly hundreds of parents picking up or dropping off kids.
Other than that I cannot fault it.
1. U.
Beautiful lake. Lots of parking.
Cafe is open during day, most days.
M. M.
A Fantastic park with so many activities to do and all with free parking
M. S.
Nice family park with lots of amenities. Riverside walk into Derby from here.
M. T.
Its lovely and probably its best at summer time now muddy like any other park.
C. M.
Over all and park and lake are nice. I fish the lake alot the cafe is over priced and food not very nice mad hatters should of stayed another council run cafe👎👎
D. B.
My first visit to Alvaston Park and I loved it! The lake was beautiful and there were all sorts of wildlife to see as we walked around. The kids play areas looked great but they were very busy so we didn't use them on this occasion. We did use some of the many goal posts and pitches open for use providing loads of wide open spaces for my boys to run around.. perfect! We will definitely be returning again!
c. w.
First visit. Very pleasant place with many facilities. Playground, footie pitches,a lake,an outside gym.,Cafe.
S. L.
We went to the fair on this particular trip but noticed a BMX track and two other parks so will definitely be going back. Very relaxing scenery and lots of free parking.
S.
Excellent lake with lots of wildlife. Perfect for children and adults. Good play area. Nappy changing room. Nice place to get food and hot drinks. Good service.
J. T.
I'm a coach of an under 12s team and have to say it's a great place to play football. Lots of pitches and one of the best things about it is the parking. There is lots of it. Entrance can be a bit of a bottleneck at peak times but no complaints on the upkeep
K. V.
A nice park with a picturesque lake to walk around. Easily accessible from National Cycle route 6.
H. J.
Love taking the kids for a walk round the lake then onto the park. Toilets are disgusting though and every busy has beer cans and rubbish in them.
J. B.
One of my favorite places peace and tranquility.
D. W.
The upper path next to the lake is great for inline and roller skating 👍
M. H. A. A.
Descent size park suitable for all ages. Relatively clean.
K. C.
Love alvaston lake, even tho I was bit by a Swan!
Z. M.
Very nice place but in my opinion need more place with coffee snacks.
J. T.
This is a lovely park to have a walk with the dogs. There's also a nice playground for children to play on and a lake with ducks to feed. There is a nice cafe to get a hot or cold drinks and there is toilet's there as well
B. N.
Lovely big park with open fields and water.
B. W.
Large park with lots of car parking. Lovely lake and ice creams available in summer months.
n. g.
Nice place some time I sneak in and sleep here
R. W.
All the fun for the family lake kids play area and cafe plenty of parking
L. M.
Lovely to see everyone enjoying the park, and the children enjoying the nature. Good job the cafe and toilets were open. Lovely place to chill with the family. My only one complaint is the lack of respect for people not on scooters or bikes... don't get me wrong it's good for people to be out on a bike ride but when these cyclists choose to harass your children ( who are on one side of a wide path btw), and hound them to move, instead of simply going around children and dogs, then it is a bit of a p***take....some people just can't get over themselves 🤷..
N. G.
Top day in a top local citypark - lake, pump track, pitches and a great cafe with bubbliest of staff to cheer you up .
G. “. S.
Nice spaces for picnics, Nice cafe, lovely lake, easy parking
b. k.
Great park for the kids lots of play equipment. Great cafe. Probably wouldn't walk through here at night though!!
P. D.
Overpriced cafe.
Good variety of wildlife and a good play area for kids.
A. Z.
Lovely place for taking time in nature with kids
K.
Really nice place to spend some quality family time. Free parking, football pitches, playground area and lot of hungry ducks, swans and geese to feed on, makes it guaranteed smile on your kids place.
Since moved in to Derby one of the places that I visit regularly.
M.
Looks nice and set out well apart from drive in and out? Way to narrow!!!! Please adjust
S.
Lots to do, park, swans, ducks, cafe, outdoor gym, fields, free carpark, bmx track, fishing lake, tennis, basketball and more.
M. S.
Clean and tidy, a superb open space by the river. Just a short walk from the city centre.
Derby should be very proud of its parks
F. B.
An enjoyable day at our grandsons fundraiser wrestling.
J. P.
Great facilities. The lake was getting a major clean by the Angling Club. We need to stop people being so stupid with loaves of bread now
W. B.
Beautiful place. Nice little cafe and a lovely boating pond, maybe just model boats though 🙂
J. S.
Excellent place for chill during sunny days!:)
E. P.
Great for biking. Kites. Dinasaurs. Rides. Food limited.
S. D.
Went early so peaceful watching the birds
R. H.
Nice urban park, big lake to walk around with waterfowl and loads of open green space. Great to visit for a wander, run, dog walk, BMX riding and play equipment with shaded/shelterd seating.
W.
Really nice place for walking 😊
A. Z.
The ducks and geese are amazing. We often go their to feed them.please take duck feed or seeds with you instead of bread. They have an amazing section for kids to play at the front. It's a must ho area.
D. L.
Nice park with plenty of parking if you need it has a lake with birds also fishing available on day ticket
S. T.
Cams favourite track
E.
Toilets and cafe available during peak times. Huge pond to walk around with ducks, geese and swans. The cafe also sells food for the ducks. Also sells hot and cold foods and hot and cold drinks too.. lovely little play area too for kids of all ages.
D. E.
For some reason the Council cafe is only doing takeaway so you can't sit down in the dry and eat a snack or drink. Council cafe in Markeaton is open and busy. Why???
At last the cafe is open.
F. D.
Big park with football pitches and many other nice things to have walks and enjoy with friends, family and pets. The only thing a bit bizarre are the fishermen , they look like from a very different landscape 😅
T. S.
Nice park with good facilities. Spacious children's play area. Although the lake is bit dirty but good visuals and great for walk.
F. A.
Nice park for day out with family , also there is car 🚗 Park .
F. M.
Lovely park to walk around.. place for children to play also a nice little cafe... people are friendly and always have a smile and hello for you.
A.
Always a pleasure if you don't use the playground. Too many people on their to be able to have fun but the lake and such are always great for a quick walk
R.
Lovely park and lake with plenty of swans, geese and other birds for people to enjoy. Great way of having interaction with nature and has a really nice relaxed atmosphere and great for everyone to enjoy. There are also several benches around the lake where people can sit and relax. Wheelchair friendly.
Also has a cafe (takeaway only at present due to Covid 19 Restrictions) where you can purchase drinks and food and also has a children's menu. Just down from here are toilets too.
The park also has a BMX track, play area for younger children and an outdoor gym for people to use and car parking space.
There is also a wide path that leads along the River Derwent which is ideal for those wishing to walk further along the river and also very popular with runners and cyclists.
J. F.
Pretty place, but why do the toilets get locked up so early? The place was still heaving with people enjoying the park, and kids in the play area.
A. K.
Nice to take kids to playground. Also for a bit of exercising. All machines are working as they should. Nice walk around pond too. Fields for football, tennis courts (free), BMX track.
h. c.
Nice walk, good kids play area.has love to explore app
A. B.
Brilliant park for the kids loads to do
T. D.
Beautiful park in the summer time. Lots of things to do for kids and adults alike. The water seems quite dirty and looks like it has been in need of a good clean for a long time. Always fun to go and feed the ducks and take a walk around the grounds.
When events on it can be quite busy but due to how much green area there is, it is almost certain you can find a decent spot for a picnic.
T. H.
Can't recommend this nightly tribute to the war dead enough. A must see nightly service
C.
Excellent place to relax. Sometimes can be a bit overcrowded but still good. Love the lake and the birds. Place is quiet, excellent to spend a few hours in if you love nature.
S. E.
Lovely little hidden gem worth visiting.
R. A.
Love the place slides, climbing frames, swings and sand pit all were there.also the lake was beautiful. Had lovely time with kids there
V. R.
Great equipment for kids to play. Nice walk around the lake filled with plenty of ducks etc. Has a outdoor gym. Toilets with are close in the evening. A cafe which has a selection of meals or drink drinks to takeaway. They also sell bird seed. The park has a BMX track and sports fields. Free parking
N. H.
Good walk dog friendly
V. S.
I like it here..Peaceful, well maintained, enough playing and exercising area. Great for dogs! Too many ducks to chase and cry about 🦆🦆🐕Can sit by the lake and switch your Einstein mode on!
s. b.
Really enjoyable all year round. Play park for the children, feeding the birds and hot mushroom soup delicious that is home made cannot be beat on a cold autumn day.
C. H.
A very calming experience. The lake and all the birds was wonderful. A nice little cafe, well socially distanced and plenty of places to sit in peace.
b. h.
Really nice place to visit, lake v v clean see to bottom.
P. c.
Great place for kids and fishing good playground nice lake and free parking
R. S.
Friendly cafe with good, simple homemade food. Lots of ducks & geese on the lake. Pleasant, accessible riverside walk, but river banks need a serious litter clean up.
C. B.
Beautiful park, if you have playground aged kids, bring a bucket and spade, let them loose in the sandpit then grab a seat and chill for a bit. Even better, grab a cuppa from the conveniently placed café first. If you're nervous of swans or geese, DO NOT feed the ducks, these ones have no manners and will literally snatch food from your hands, but otherwise its a very scenic park, plenty of space to kick a ball about or teach the littluns to ride a bike, café staff are pleasant and helpful and serve snacks, drinks and meals. Its not the cheapest or most generous portions but its great quality food. Worth the effort for a pleasant afternoon.
M. B.
Small lake with a huge number of ducks, swans, geese and gulls. Really lovely space but if you feed the birds please dont use bread, take seeds or similar
W. W.
Nice play area, with gym area too. Well surfaced bike path for good accessibility. Football pitches BMX track fishing lake cafe toilets nice walk and carparking available. Good place to be. Park run on Saturday.
M. B.
Lovely park, had a stroll round the lake. All a pair of OAPs can do at the moment. Afternoon spoiled though by grumpy angler who admonished us for feeding the ducks too close to his & £1500 worth of rods.
A.
Decent bike routes off here, following river. Public gym for "quasi" calisthenics burnout. Often seen volunteers cleaning up after the asbos.
I. I.
The only park that kids like all the time, they love the lake, the ducks and swans, the "little forest" as they call it and the play area is very good, there is a active/fit area, loads of football pitches, bicycle track, etc. Loads of free parking, cafe, toilets, all in all, very nice. We recommend it!!! :-)
D. G.
We used this park as a base when walking alongside the Derwent River. A nice place to visit, plenty of green space to run around in, a nice tree collection to view or just go for a stroll around the lake. View or feed the ducks and geese with birdfood bought at the cafe. Use the play area or outdoor gym then enjoy a takeaway drink or ice cream from the cafe.
H. J.
A lovely park with a small lake and a bmx track for the really active ones. Very popular with Saturday morning football teams as there are several football pitches. There is a cafe which serves a good selection of food and drinks. If the kids want to feed the ducks then make sure you have plenty of bread.
H. H.
This is a lovely park. The cafe is awesome and the lake is lovely. Car park is quite large too. Buy some bird food from the cafe to feed the ducks, swans and coots. There's a good play area for kids and the skate park too.
T. O.
Nice place to cycle to with the kids, there is a playground, large pond with many ducks, swans and geese. There is a cafe that sells icecream, hot food, tea, coffee and soft drinks (check opening times). Great cycle links via the old canal and the river
B. W.
Nice park, lots of different areas for children to play in..toilets, cafe and lake. Be mindful of small children feeding ducks and geese as a little too over confident and pecked my grandsons finger .
M. S.
Great park run and planet mars
Y.
This is a brilliant park ! It is a place where you can come with kids , it has a playground, and where you can also just walk down the path and around the pond and just take in the view . If you have a bike you can go on the bmx track which is brilliant . The park is easy to access with multiple entrances and a car park in the park . There is also a cafe which has hot drinks and food and cold drinks and food . The park is great for a family trip for example . Would definitely recommend going here either for a short stay or long stay it's good for both .
T. S.
Wow.....stargazing experience with Derby Astronomical Society was amazing. So much for the kids to do, very informative staff and group members, story telling, arts and crafts and telescopes out on the green for all to view......definitely an experience and a half!! We took plenty of food and blankets and had a picnic which kept the kids happy. If you haven't been, go!
S. S.
Very smart Park, good interesting lake full of plant life and lots of healthy ducks and swans with their young. Cyclists and runners aplenty.
C. M.
My dogs have a great time here. I literally found this place, by accident /fluke. But it is now one of my favourite places to visit. There is something for everyone. Large playing fields if there's a large group of you. Or if you just want a quick kick about with the kids. There is cafe which serves hot / cold drinks. Some hot snacks. Sandwiches, cake and ice-cream/lollies. You can eat inside or they have a few tables outside. Also they kindly put out water for visiting Doggies. There are toilets literally next door. The lake is beautiful and is home to numerous water birds. Swans, Mallards, Coors, Canadian Geese. The lake is full of fish and fishing is allowed with the correct permits and set times. There is a great path all around the lake which is excellent for wheelchair users. There is also benches and seating all around. So if you need a breather or just want to watch the lake and it's inhabitants. There is plenty of land and paths to explore around and about the lake. There is also a cycle path. Situated just next to the lake is a wonderful children's play area. With slides, swings and rockers galore. The actual play area is sand. There is also a large wooden gazebo style structure. With seating built around the inside. Perfect for shaded play or escape from a passing shower. To access the park you drive into the structure then drive along a narrow lane. There is skate park situated here and some parking. If you don't fancy the walk, you can follow the lane around. Which brings you to a large parking structure. There are lots of room and also adequate number of disable parking bays. I think the building is a sports centre or sports club. This is also where the cafe and toilets are located. Don't forget to bring some oats, corn, lentils for feeding the birds. Less mess and healthier for them. Enjoy.
N. I.
Very large, with a pond full of birds, places for sports and for kids. But no so quiet and almost whiteout resting places. Also, on the edge are fishermen who live in tents. Finally, de gustibus!
S. A.
Close to home, plenty to do, good walking, park for kids play area, football pitches, amazing lake with ducks and swans. Scenery is great for photos, friendly, great cafe with food and cakes and drinks. Public toilets
A. S.
Excellent park, lots of facilities, free parking, cafe, toilets, lake, football fields, tennis courts, play park, BMX and skateboard parks, walks... The list is endless! Really lovely happy safe day out for the whole family!
T. D.
I have been to this park many times and I really enjoy going there. Its perfect for all ages. There are two playgrounds, which are great for families with children to spend an afternoon with. There is a small rock climb, area for basketball or football (this bit is small, so if you want a professional game, use the fields) and also, near the carpark, an area for biking (ramps and small hills and things like that). If you prefer to take a stroll amongst the nature, they also have a lake with ducks and swans, which you can circle and slowly enter more quiet pathways where there are trees and bushes ect.
You can't get lost easily, most paths lead back to the lake or play areas. There is also a cafe which serves cakes and ice cream, but its quite cramped in there so, its definitely better to take food outside. Very relaxing place, fun for the family and good for cyclists toos
Note : Please don't feed the ducks bread, it's not good for them. Either buy duck food or bring some frozen peas, they quite like them.
H. Q.
Great to see the lake looking so clear and unclogged, the volunteers do a wonderful job looking after the place. The play area is really well maintained and the cafe is friendly and reasonably priced with a fair range of drinks and food.
P. H.
Words cannot convey what an absolute privilege it is to have this serene, tranquil paradise literally minutes away from my front door! Just try stopping me walking, jogging, sunbathing, barbecuing my way through many more summers here!!
R. B.
Free parking and dog friendly, a good base for a walk along the river into Derby. Also has a bmx track and plenty of fields for playing games on. The park is well maintained and there are plenty of bins etc so the park is clean and tidy. Lake full of birds and fishing available if this interests you. At the price it is worth a visit! :)
T. J.
I love this park so pretty and good for families with children.
J. G.
An adorable park less than 45 minute walk from derby city centre. Loads for kids to do including play park and watching the ducks. Canteen was wonderful and affordable. All in all a great experience!
z.
Good large park, a lot to keep kids entertained, lots of rides, good tea room, nice lake with plenty of birds to feed. Pretty clean as well. Only criticism is the tea room wasn't actually open when it was advertised as open on the website.
V. M.
Great to go and feed the ducks/swans/geese with the little one. The play area for kids is of a high standard and there is an Adidas fitness section too. Nice little cafe and plenty of football pitches
C. S.
Such a lovely park. Lovely lake to walk round. Plenty for children to play on. Cafe serving drinks and hot food.
F. H.
Big playing fields for football, kite flying etc, playground and fitness area for children, nice short walk around the lake and tea room and toilet facilities. Great for a couple of hours out with the family!
H. M.
Lovely park with plenty to do. The playground swings needed some attention but it looks like a team was there preparing to do it. A splash park would be an excellent addition. There is free parking here and the cafe takes card :)
J. P.
Lovely park all year round
A. V.
Lot of fun. Dinosaurs are awesome.
D. B.
This is one of our stop off points when cycling along Route 6. I am always impressed by the cleanliness of this Park. It has great facilities...for all ages. I do not know any Park in Nottinghamshire that rivals this Park for facilities. I am naturally a Nottingham supporter but, I think we have lost the competition in which we see Alvaston park competing!!
j. b.
Lovely park, plenty of open spaces for football games, picnics, riding your bike/scooter. Great BMX track too, parking is free.
S. H.
Loveley place to visit. Plenty of ducks and swans to see and park for the kids to play and with a sand pit.and a small cafe on site sell tea coffee and cakes etc.and why not take a walk round the lake or let the kids have a go on the x tracks choices of different one for young and older children will love this experince . Or take a football and have a kick about they have fun days of which you have to look out for in the local telegraph. The park is being refurbish so has people can fish and make special areas for wildlife and new plant put in the lake I used to visit this park when I was a child and think I used go round the lake with my father on a paddle boat of which you used to hire while visiting.the park also has a gym where you can keep fit. And then take a stroll around the park areas after wards worth a visit.
E. B.
Great local park to walk your dog or for kids to play in play park. Had skate a bike park and outdoor Adidas gym for all to use. Duck/coot/swan/goose in pond. Football fields for weekend kick about. Runs along river. Toilets and cafe to boot.
W. P.
Lovely park. We were sad at some parts of the lake which people had thrown rubbish there. The children park, lovely, medium in size, lots to do. Seems to be sharp things in the sand pit so could do with a once over
J. “. B.
I did not go to Alvaston Park but I went through on the footpath it looks very nice after not seeing it for a year I look at the wildflowers and I love the new seating that they put their . Much improved
M. D.
Nice place for a quick 30 min walk around lake and to the bmx track, kids play bit could do with a spruce but deffo worth a trip
M. C.
A nice park with open grass areas, a small lake/ large pond, childrens playground, BMX run / skate park, an outdoor gym and a planet sculpture trail. Cafe serves take out food and drinks (duck food also available to purchase). Public toilets are clean and next to the cafe entrance. Please be aware that there are two car parks... one by the skate park and one by the cafe... which can make it tricky when trying to meet up with friends if you've not pre organised which carpark you're meeting at!
J. B.
An enjoyable day out for kids of all ages! Mine range from 9 to 16 & will happily spend the day here with a picnic!
J. F.
Nice for dog walking, and taking the kids to feed the wildlife on the lake. Lots of greenery trees etc. Good to see it all changing colour with the seasons. Refreshments available when they're open
C. T.
Very big pleasure to walk around beautiful lake and kids science.the playground is smaller..However the gym is ok
E. P.
Alvaston Park is a hidden gem of the city, very large green space with play grounds, skate park and outdoor gym equipment.
The lake hosts a bit of wildlife with ducks, gease swans and Herron, there are fish in there and lots of spots to cast from for fishing.
The cafe is reasonably priced and the food is good, they also sell small bags of food to feed the birds.
G. M.
Love this for its bmw track, carpark is unkept and the single track road in/ out is a pain on weekends as you cab be sat there backing up to the main road for ages.
T. C.
Nice park most days but as with a lot of places in Derby, there is a bit of a litter problem. The lake would be so much nicer if there weren't empty cans and bottles floating around..
J. R.
Good Park to visit. No park rangers could be seen so canabis being used freely. There is a lake but looks polluted
J. A.
Love this place for many reasons.
Our favourite thing is to feed the birds. Grab a bag of bird seed from the cafe and off you go!
A. w.
Really good walk to be had here, walk around the lake with all the wildfowl .various open playing fields, bmx park and skate park. Cafe and toilets near to kids play area. You can follow the river away from the park as I did using the cycle route
B. B.
First time I've been to this park, for a Parc run, even though it sort of goes up and down, still a freindly event. The park's main attraction is the cycle friendly routes that lead to it, so a great environment to teach them how to ride, then feed the ducks, feed yourself in the cafe, play on playpark. But coming by car felt disorganised due to the narrow approach. So bring two wheels, not four!
C. B.
Nice little park, cafe and toilets on site and open feed the ducks walk round the lake and let the little ones enjoy the park
S. J.
Very friendly staff at the cafe ...good sized park and a fishing lake also across the other side of the park are football pitches , a bmx course and a small skate park
R. W.
Free parking with good access to the canal path where you can walk to Derby or Elvaston. Lots of grass to play your own game of something. Decent skate ramps
D. D.
Very pretty park with a lovely big lake. Nice & quiet. Cafe selling selection of hot drinks & food. Free parking which is always a bonus!!
H. G.
Free parking. Skate park/bmx track with jumps, etc. Great kiddies' play park which is fenced off. Café. Large fields for football etc. Lake (fishing available) with benches around it. Info on the solar system dotted around the park. The back of the park links onto the cycle/ footpath alongside the River Derwent which runs into the city centre.
D. B.
Park gets nicer every time we visit. The lake side is the best
B. A.
Great park and outdoor gym. Zip wire was kids favourite. Coffee shop open for drinks, ice cream and light meals.
D. W.
This a great park to visit has a skateboarding park and cycle track, great for dog walking and has a large pond which attracts lots of wildlife such as ducks, geese, swans, and other various birds. Has football pitches which get used regularly by teams of all ages
G. F.
Great place to visit, do picknic or run.
A. H.
Free parking, BMX track is a great public facility, children's play park is nice and modern, handy little cafe on site as well. Toilet facilities weren't that clean.
D. F.
So much potential to be better but very nice lake nice cafe too loads of space for a kick about down side only 1 basketball hoop
S. P.
Went for a jog even tho the heavens opened up🏃 would have been better if I'd have found more joggers, but at least there were a few families about and dog walkers. I enjoyed the space to jog and scenery.
G. E.
Beautiful park and lots to do to keep children busy.
R. H.
Great park with a bit of something for everyone, pitches for the sports fans, lake and nature area to enjoy and a decent play area and space for the kids to run riot. Enough benches to just sit n watch the world go by.
M. M.
Great park run, I was trying it for the first time. It's now going to be my favorite. Met and had a chat with a fellow park runner who told me more about the park and encouraged me to join the park run
P. D.
Great park with a cafe on the lake, a half decent outdoor gym and a great BMX pump track and skate park.
s. c.

L. C.
Great place with nice playground for the kids, lovely lake with lots of wildlife and big fields for kids and dogs to run free
N. C.
Went to the stargazing event. Really good set up just shame it was cloudy! But we all enjoyed the boats on the water and all the craft and The mobile Makory lots for the kids to do
R. F. W.
Good place for a nice walk but the kids play area needs huge improvement. The Adizone needs replacing, most of the equipment is rusty and squeaks a lot!
G. P.
Nice park for a walk / run.
Dogs can go off lead for part of it, the lake is quite big and usually has a fair amount of wildlife around.
D. H.
Nice setting, with mature trees and lake. Good cycling routes through and around park. Can be visited by yobs, drunks and druggies on occasion, but generally a nice place to be.
S. H.
The park is a nice place to picnic sitting on the grass
The lake has the usual swans ,geese, ducks ,more hens and gulls there are heron's in the trees as there are fish in the lake
There is a large play area for children
There is a cafe and toilets
There is a BMX track farther down the path and a large green used for football
I like to sit for a while on one of the Bench's and just enjoy the the view of the lake .
P. O.
Recommend a visit to Alvaston park, a very good leisure space. There is a lake, Riverside cycle path, children's play area, tennis courts, outdoor excercise equipment, large grassy spaces.
B. M.
Lovely park & lake very nice for the family
D. E.
Nice park, great for families. Nice for walks with pushchairs as there is plenty of flat surfaces.
P. S.
Lovely Park Lake with pretty good fishing.
S. F.
Just visited alvaston park for the first time in 20 years. A really nice park lovely cafe and lots of ducks and swans to eat up your leftovers.
s. f.
Alot of duck and other animals poo around as beautiful as the wildlife are there should definitely be some sort of wash down procedure for footpath around lake aswell as litter our wheelchair and shoes were covered by the time we had walked around once.
T. B.
Love to walk around the lake here. Also some nice play equipment for children.
P. n.
It was large with lots of grass, on which there were lots of football pitches. Didnt go on the play area or skateboard Park as I'm 58 years old.
W. S.
The skate park needs updating. It's old and pretty skanky in places. Shame because the BMX track brings hundreds of people to the area. Alvaston could really make its self look like a forward looking area if only it took more pride in its other wheeled sports area.
J. D.
Beautiful pond and lovely walks
C. S.
Great park with so much to do, nice walk around the lake , a play park for the children and a cafe
N. B.
The grounds, the park, pretty much all to a great standard. While the cafe staff are lovely, the pricing is downright exploitation. Avoid buying anything there at all costs
a. t. (.
Alvaston park is a great place to go with the family in the delight of day!! But stay away in the evenings, as you can guarantee their will be yobs hanging about in groups. And boy races in the car park. And kids smoking drugs. And the police are never there!! Not a nice place to be in the evenings!! So parents beware!
G. S.
Great for kids , Adults , people with mobility problems ,wheelchair friendly ,often used to take my dad , fed the birds . Good all round .
m. m.

J. S.
A nice green space, a large duck pond, great kids play area and even some fairly reasonable practice tennis courts. A café for good measure.
R. H.
Good play area for children. The cafe is also cheap and does some nice basic food. Take some bird grain to feed the ducks, geese and swans.

Big park with lots of space and home to Derby BMX track. Park is well maintained and clean with good play areas and a small cafe. The BMX track is maintained to a high standard by Derby BMX club but make sure you check their website or Facebook page before traveling as the track may be in use for club training sessions etc.
A. M.

The park is lovely and we enjoy biking/walking around the park but my 7 year old granddaughter who loves the park has limited things for her age to play on.

Grass, trees, football pitches, a bike track, a small artificial lake. These are the classic elements of a park. It's not like unspoilt beauty or anything like that, but this is Alvaston mate, you aren't going to get that. 4 stars.
