Reviews of George Square Gardens
D. P.
George Square Gardens was on the the festival's venues while we were here and it was full of life. Several pubs were inside along with one of the main theaters hosting several shows. We also found a maze which was fun for our kids . The gardens are walking distance from the royal mile, so they are worth a visit if you are around.
A. S. C.
Great experience! the decoration is fab ! The best street food in Edinburgh is Moskitos Tapas 🥰
T. M.
Calm and serenity in a busy city
D. B.
I think this is the most vibrant part of the fringe. The food stalls are amazing, and there a great buzz around here, all day and night!
J. C.
Great time. Great atmosphere during the Edinburgh Fringe. Lovely and pleasant even when it's not the Edinburgh Fringe.
K. Y.
Quiete place in winter holiday season.
F. M.
Went to see a show at the Fringe. afterward had food and a drink in the spacious gardens. Food stalls to suit any taste. An excellent, well run venue
M. C.
It's a typical city green space most of the year. Mature trees and an enclosed green circle to sit in away from the noise of the city.
At this time of the year though (Aug) it is co-opted by the Fringe and is an exercise in wallet gouging for less than amazing food.
S. A.
Nice layout of the picnic tables and enjoyed my time there, the Gyozas food van was brilliant, good portion for £4.50, very tasty food... the drinks from the bar were decent at the price which was about average these days...
N. A.
George Square Gardens is normally a lovely peaceful centrepiece to a square of vibrant working university buildings. In August it is transformed into a lively venue for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
P. D.
George square gardens has been transformed for the Edinburgh fringe festival lots of shows to see and do or hang out in the outdoor bar watching rehearsals, it’s all here thanks to udderbelly
Z. S.
Great to see the place filled with life and laughter again after the disastrous events of last year! Festival atmosphere was buzzing!
F. M.
Spent a very pleasant hour here with a cider and a comfortable chair.
Will be packed in ten days time when the Fringe starts!
B. C.
Great atmosphere and lots of food and drink choices 😊
P. S.
Edinburgh Fringe festival venue. Lovely atmosphere. Well organized. Not too crowded.
N. S.
Easy to use ordering app, lots of good food, nice relaxed atmosphere. Felt like pre pandemic chill times.
a. e.
This was a excellent place to visit, if you are around that area, the atmosphere and the food was beautiful
K. W.
Really nice area in the sunshine but disappointing that the bar had a limited choice due to the fringe ending soon.
L. R.
A beautiful space for a walk.
J. W.
Wow what a great venue for the Fringe.
One to remember for future trips.
P. Y.
It's my favourite place to hang out when attending the Edinburgh Fringe. As well as the many choices you have to be entertained, it's a few bars on site but there also lots of good established eateries nearby too.
A. B.
Top during Fringe festival, nice food/drink hubs in the center and many venues around. Can find diverse take away food (incl. Vegan). Tables are available and it can be sheltered from rain.
d. w.
Nice garden. Decent pint of IPA. Good pizza.
L. J.
A garden square within the university campus just south of Edinburgh city centre, which is open to the public. It's a nice space to relax during the daytime, and on Sundays you can park around it for free. During festival time in August it's transformed into a major Fringe venue, with bars, food stalls and theatres!
D. M.
Visited for walk in centre (van) for covid vaccine.
D. Q.
This is like an oasis in the city. We went back a couple is times during or stay. It reminded me of the painting A Sunday on Lagrand. There were children playing young lovers sunning aged lovers strolling families picnicking. It was clean and groomed. The fountains and pond were beautiful. There was an old stone theater area that we loved. Take a break grin the city and enjoy this slice of heaven.
S. M.
Pretty cool place to chill. During the fringe it is one of the popular venues like underbelly or assembly. Food is good, drinks are standard (slightly premium pricing during the festival) and close by to Gilded Balloon and Pleasance Dome.
J. M.
For eleven months of the year, it's a pretty nice park. Good place to eat a bratwurst or a Brazilian crepe.
For August, it's a magical garden of upside-down giant purple cows and overpriced drinks. 10/10, would waste money again.
A. M.
Lovely quiet gardens in heart of the city. Great for read or just a sit down when sun is out
R. R.
Venue for fringe events in temporary structures during August. A variety of stalls sell a range of food and drinks and temporary picnic tables are available. Overall it is like an outdoor food court for the period of the fringe. A very pleasant location to eat and drink on a warm August evening.
D.
Modern and interesting spot to spend some time.
D. Y.
A well lit area and felt safe enough to park the car nearby at night. Easy access to the heart of the old town and lovely to walk through. I went walking around this area with a friend who was over in Edinburgh with her Uni from abroad who particularly liked the local parks. She was quite taken aback that there were so many little parks that were very well kept.
D. S.
Normally I would have to climb over railings to get access to these gardens and at my age (82) this is difficult. The gardens are owned by proprietors and are usually only accessible to the public during the Book Festival when you can tramp about on the grass, usually rain
soaked, and visit Festival events , enjoy food and buy books
Roll on the Festival
Still.to come
B. R.
Gardens were laud out with 2 Spiegeltents and various supporting tefreshment stalls. The place was kept clean and if there could be any criticism, there was not enough garden seating. Otherwise splendid.
J. M.
Good venue during the Fringe. Nice atmosphere on a sunny day and good variety of food and drinks available. Portaloos but were clean.
-
B. W. (. B.
There for the Blues and Jazz festival, a great place for not just music, but good food and drink from the various outlets, go visit, make sure it's hot and sunny tho.
I. T.
Venue was excellent, bar area was spacious, toilets were clean. Cost of drink was reasonable and plenty of food choices
Went to see Atomic Saloon - brilliant
R.
Beautiful park. No dogs allowed unfortunately but I don't own a dog. I am a dog.
C. W.
Nice atmosphere. 2 tents were cool qhere performances are. Difficult to see band however in SpeigelbergTent wjich was irritating. Saying that its an actual gorgeous place with wood penelling on walls and wood floor and mirrors plus no expense spared on the atmospheric lighting.
A. G.
Great place for a drink during the Edinburgh Fringe.
I. N.
Great atmosphere even in the rain!
J. K.
Nice part of town to hang about in. During the festival fringe in usually becomes one of the venues. This year it is the Udderbelly, which is both a place to grab a bite and an (over-priced) drink.
T. C.
It was quite a pleasent park. I went there for the food festival which was a really well done event. The stalls there were serving great food.
The park it self from the event was fairly large and seemed to be well kept.
Definelty recommend! 😁
A. L.
Fabulous selection of food and drink, reasonably priced too, concidering it's the festival.. great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
a. g.
Very nice area. Very relaxed feel for a place in the middle of a city
J. H. R.
Great place...Great food and drink and music
R. G.
Best place at Ed Fringe for a drink and a snack.
A. H.
Wonderful venue during Jazz festival as is not too busy. Super gigs at reasonable prices from now until July 22nd in Spiegeltent and piccolo. Close to Teviot which is Jazz festival club this year.
S. M.
Very busy but it was the last weekend of the fringe. We're there early enough so managed to get a table OK. Overpriced drinks though.
L. M.
This is the heart of the University of Edinburgh. A Georgian Square similar to the one found at the University of Liverpool, it has a peaceful woody garden at its centre which is transform into a venue during the Festival month. There are usually a couple of carts selling hot food during the day and a little coffee take away in an old police box. On two sides there are Georgian terraces containing smaller university departments (mainly arts). On the other side there are larger sixties buildings including the library, David Hume Tower (arts), and lecture theatres.
M. W.
This is currently referred to as Assembly George Square Gardens due to the Edinburgh Festivals. It contains Spiegletents, bars, food stalls and lots of seating and tables on an artificial grass surface. A good place to meet for performances or to just relax in the sun with friends. The rest of the time it is a quiet fenced garden surrounded by Edinburgh University buildings and a good spot to relax away from the often hectic Meadows.
G. C.
Very good, well sign posted. Staff very helpful. Could do with tickets box office at each place, instead of just one for all shows.
F. N.
One of the hubs of the Festival, great place for getting last minute tickets or just taking in the vibe. Go "under" to the Edinburgh Union for sheltered seating and toilets.
R. Z.
A Great Cosy Place right in the middle of University of Edinburgh Library - Also this is the one and only location for the 'Assembly' for the Fringe Edinburgh Festival, some of the best acts and performers as well as top UK&International Comedians ca be found there!
M. M.
Expensive food & drinks but great atmosphere.
S. T.
This is one of the best venues during the Ed Fringe. So much buzz and the crowds are always great. One of my favorite places to go to.
T. Y.
It was a lovely place but it was very busy due to the Fringe festival.
The atmosphere was great though.
L. A.
Love this place during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Great food and drink available. Could sit and people watch all day.
P. G.
Busy venue during the Fringe that uses its surroundings reasonably well. Pretty university square the rest of the year, especially winter.
a. g.
Great selection of food vendors for the festivsl, very busy at peak time but plenty of seating and drinks available.
A.
Depends on what time your go there at. If its during a festival, then you will definitely find lots of things here. Otherwise it's just a park in the middle of university of Edinburgh.
D. B. (.
Great (and very popular) venue during the Fringe. Large beer garden with event tents, lots of food and drink stalls and toilets.
S. b. t.
Not the usual fringe buzz but good to get out and about.
J. N.

L. J.

S. S.
Lovely garden in the middle of an urban high-rise area. There is a labyrinth for walking meditation hidden behind the hedges.
