Reviews of Queen's Gardens

Lovely park with plenty places to sit and take in Hull’s atmosphere! Unfortunately the fountains were getting some maintenance when we visited which is great in the long run but it meant that we couldn’t see them in operation!
It needs a bit of a clean too with lots of pigeon poo and feathers over the paths!
K. G.
Enjoyed a visit a few weeks before the awakening festival it's a large bare space in the winter but a break from the built up busy city centre. During the awakening it was brought to life with the aurora borealis effects and fiery musical art works.
m. T.
Nice quiet place to take a rest
C. R. (.
Nice part of Hull to relax in. Mostly empty but this is a good park for the family to spend those long summer days at.
m. w.
Very nice place to go and just sit and have a coffee with no body giving you any trouble at all ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Always good for events such as the Falklands commemorative event. The periphery could be maintained a bit better.
S. B.
Nice garden area in the centre of Hull. It's based on a old filled in dock and is used for a variety of events, music and food festivals. When not in use for a festival, it's a great place to chill out and enjoy the grass and scenery around during the summer
S. C.
This a beautiful park in the centre of Hull City. It has evolved in recent years from investment into the City and is changing for the better. I love the flowers by the fountain in the shape of a ship's wheel that set the scene and you can sit and eat. Lots of events occur here too.
J. H.
HULL PRIDE first visit weird and wonderful costumes if the performers Did not feel awkward or out of place as a straight women was there to show support and enjoy the good food ,drink ,artist and great atmosphere!! Amazing day!
R. T.
Haven of peace in Hull city centre, complete with a fountain, two ponds, shady tree-lined path, large lawned area, statue, a modern sculpture, and more sea gulls than you can shake a stick at!
N. H.
Queens garden's hull. A great place to have a picnic on the grass. Flavourz cafe is great for a 99 ice cream and sit in their deckchairs in the sunshine. There is usually some kind of event on. Today there is a German Oktoberfest beet festival. I will be sampling that shortly.

Nice to take kids in the day time. And great place to get murdered on a night time
D. H.
It is a nice place but they have knocked the food place down and have got a lot of work fences up as they are going to turn half of it into a car park. So half of one of the ponds is going as that is in the way of what they want as a car park.
N. J.
Lovely area and lots of events on.
Well served by buses, car park nearby in Princes Quays and elsewhere n town.
Nearby city shops and eateries.
R.
Beautiful especially at the moment with the flowers blooming. The smell of the flowers is wonderful. Hard to believe it's in a city centre. For a quieter experience if you wonder down away from the fountain towards the statue the park is much more peaceful and you get a lovely view of the top of the city Hall. I visited on a very sunny day as my garden doesn't get any sun and I had a lovely few hours sunbathing and reading my book in a peaceful environment and then wondered 200 yrs or so into the city. Very convenient.
A. R.
The floral displays are always spectacular and a bit more inventive than you would expect.
D. H.
Always reminds me of when my Parents brought me here, as a young child. Doesn't seem as big or nice as I remember it then.
However, still enjoy the walk through when working in town centre., purely for the memories. Have seen some sights though and anti- social behaviour over the few years and wouldn't bring my kids here for a visit, only as a cut through. Shame really, but you can't change people.
T. W.
Very nice place to sit and have lunch and chill be even better when works are finished
A.
Beautiful Gardens, Lovely walk, Great Fountain, Excellently kept, really pleasant
K. B.
Fantastic gardens in the middle of a great city
V. S.
A nice place for walk or just seat in weekends when a good weather. A beautiful fountain. Here often couples lying on grass.
I like this place, it's quite, I going here when I want just relax and rest from noise city life.
k. a.
There is plenty of benches were you can sit down.
M. R.
A wonderful peaceful area in the middle of Hull city centre. A lovely place to sit and eat a sandwich or fish and chips and there's plenty of food outlets nearby. Strict no alcohol rules are rigourously enforced therefore eliminating the presence of undesirable company. The gardens are always in superb bloom and the fountains provide that relaxing feeling that the sound of running water always seems to provide
P. P.
Awesome..neat n clean place..fountain is like cherry on the cake..colourful..treat to eyes..
Y. H.
Not a nice place to visit rubbish everywhere and lots of weeds and council mettle fencing
D. R.
Lovely park with duck pond in the centre of hull behind the water fountain
T. I. e.
Under renovation at the moment. Tranquil place to sit and enjoy
j. k.
Lovely day out seeing the military displays and other forces
b. r.
At the moment it is in limbo as work on a refurbishment seems to have ground to a halt. When finished, and I have no idea when, the area should be an even better oasis and meeting place in the city centre than it has been. The former police station is now an apartment building, overlooking the gardens, very nice as well if you can afford one which adds a bit of class to the setting. But at the moment, it has to be said, it's a mess.
K. B.
Today there was a war event it was like a mini veterans in the park
D. B.
Attractions at queen's gardens
P.
Was wonderful at the Pride 2017. Enjoyed walking there
S. L.
First time I've walked through here for a while, very well maintained
G. G. B.
At the moment (August 2021), the whole area is due to be redeveloped, to provide an even better city centre sactuary, away from the traffic & noise. Even now, it's an escape, & sonewhere to wander & relax. A much-needed open space.
P. W.
Love this place, but will be even better when reconstructed.
M. N.
Looks nice in summer with all the flowers.
M. W.
A lovely place to visit...
A. M.
Having seen so much investment over recent years, Queens gardens is a beautiful location and a credit to the council employees who work so hard to keep it that way. It has the makings of a really nice, relaxing atmosphere for a lunch outside during warmer weather if not for all the addicts and beggars hanging around smoking weed and spitting everywhere. But then I suppose it wouldn't be Hull without them 🤣
K. B.
Historic. Good for children especially on a sunny day.
The person the Robinson Crusoe was based on sailed from here on his ill-fated voyage.
N. O.
Great place to sit and chill
F. H.
Beautiful flowers and love the fountain!
C. S.
Large park green space right in the center area of Hull.
D. S.
Bought seeded buns and had a real laugh feeding the birds. Also gained a friend after it's feet were freed from some very long blond hair.
E. M.
Queens gardens has always had a beautiful variety of trees surrounding it, creating a green haven right in the centre of hull. however a majority of these have been brutally cut down in the last couple of months, for a council that apparently cares about how green the city is, this is appalling.
c.
Such a shame that this isn't the lush oasis that it could be. Instead it's filled with broken glass, drunks and one kid smoking a bong. A great spot for events, but in between those it's left to ruin.
R. F.
Lovely oasis in the centre of Hull. No matter the season it is always peaceful and well maintained. Superb views of the historic buildings all around. Love it.
G. W.
Large open space in the town centre close to the Guild Hall which is great for weddings and the gardens for photos close to shops and free museums.and entertainment.
D. D.
Nice gardens and fountain, not as well kept as a few years ago.
Visited a couple of times in the past few weeks, once to enjoy Hull Pride, and again for the Yum food Festival. Great outdoor space in the city centre. Well organised, with lots of bins/bags for rubbish. Plenty of seating.
S. F.
Majour route College to city centre.
beautiful memorial William Wilberforce start as walk you've got the beautiful open green-land in garden as well as Queen's Victoria's fountain well used green space all ages peace quiet tarrfic quiet time but under development alongside Guildhall
D. W.
Great place to picnic and sit and relax. Activities through the year here. Great waterfall and beautiful flowers.
D. P.
Generally pretty nice place for a relaxed sit down. Looked a bit scruffy at my last visit, and there were quite a few people who seemed fairly drunk and this was early afternoon. I love Hull, however this street drinking and begging is poor and off putting.
A. g.
There was a did festival when we visited so it was really busy. But in a fun lively way with lots of families sitting on the grass having picnics or street food and chatting.
It always feels very relaxed and friendly.
A.
Was always nice and peaceful especially with the fish and the ducks, don't care much for the cheese grater though, and the regular disruption for festival work doesn't help the mood, they might be better and more cost efficient by improving the existing permanent facilities to cope better.
I. K.
Is a municipal garden with food outlet and live music events in non Covid times. Attractive design and plantings in this filled in former marine dock.
D.
A lovely, tranquil and quiet place. Great for relaxing. I often spend my lunches here on the workshift. At the one end, you have a huge fountain surrounded by short stone walls containing an area of grass to sit on and flower arrangements / flowerbeds. The fountain doesn't spray and in the sun, it's lovely and peaceful to sit here. Surrounding this, a stone walkway and some more wooden benches in a circular arrangement.
From here there is a road that surrounds the fountain (of which, the other side of the street contains links to the university, some workplaces, the docks, queens arcade and the city centre). Alternatively, a path to larger part of the park. This park being a long, narrow(ish) walkway with plenty of grass and areas to sit, eventually leading up to the Hull College. The walkway, situated with numerous benches, trees towering either side of the stone path and the grass area (which in contrary to my usage of the word narrow) is in no way small and actually plays host occasionally to events for small festivals and the like.
There is a little bit of noise pollution from a nearby building site but this isn't the park's fault and these things happen. It's not overly disturbing but would be nicer without. Gave it 5* anyway.
C. B.
Could do with maybe a food court or something, but there are plenty of places to eat in the area, and you can still see the odd people bringing food with them to sit out and eat, especially in the summer. Throughout the year the gardens are used to host several events, and when not are a nice sight all the same. Due to undergo a facelift soon so the metal fences dotted about unceremoniously to prevent people falling in the water will be removed. All the same though, I'd definitely check out the gardens during the summer.
R. I.
A great place to relax for a few minutes, nice part of Hull where the docks used to be a lot of history in this part of Hull to discover. See photo of Queens Gardens, formerly Dock offices behind me now known as maritime museum and town hall with the green top. A good place to shop with lots of bargains.
L. B.
Beautiful place clean and a lovely place to sit and relax. Only negative is that you have to be aware of the right place to sit away from the drug users and alcoholics. The park is a big place so this is easy to do
s. p.
Nice plce for kid's
L. L.
Lovely gardens, very relaxing to walk around. Always maintained and looking beaitiful 😁
L. D.
Nice area in the middle of the city centre,. Has been refurbished over the years, plenty of seating and grassed area for relaxing and picnics,. Fountains in duck ponds as well as a larger fountain surrounded by flower garden. Nearby in Queen Victoria Square there is a new fountain arrangement in the street that kids love to play in and around.
R. S.
A lot of work needed to bring this place back to life. The Rose bowl area is kept well and is a credit to the council workers. I have seen the great plans for Queen's Gardens and so look forward to seeing them come to fruition. The events for The Freedom Festival that were held in Queen's Gardens were enjoyed by every age group.
L. H.
I love going into Queens Gardens having a bite to eat sat down on the grass. Sometimes laid down listing to my music and catching a tan from the sun on the same day. There is a nice cafe there i like to sit outside on the deckchairs and have a nice cup of tea.
K. S.
I love queen's gardens. It's also got a coffee shop. It is peaceful in the evening not to I late though aye. Its perfect for a chat or break for work or shopping. There is a police station and casino on its doorstep and a very nice little pub
J. O.
Peaceful to watch the world go.by
R. S.
It's a nice place to walk around and have a cup of coffee
H. R.
Well maintained with three ponds, a bandstand and a fountain
D. W.
Was a yum food festival at the time so was a good day. Great food, couple of drinks and away. Needs to happen more often and until later hours for the bar/pub section
H. F.
2 lovely ponds to sit around and watch the wildlife, has a culture statue and a pavilion. Alot if grass area for a picnic or to relax. Hosts many events throughout the year.
J. P.
Nice place but needs more life in it plenty of grass but so dose a feild
C. D.
An oasis of calming the heart of the City Centre. The former historic Queens Dock, long ago filled in and made into a park with gardens and duck pond. A nice place to picnic, and often hosts events.
D. S.
City centre garden and open space which will soon be having a well deserved makeover.
J. P.
Not much there. It used to be full of people having picnics on a sunny day but only a dozen or so .
P.
fantastic night listening to middle child, so good to be out and feeling safe, well done to you all .
B. &. S. S.
Nice enough but a bit frayed round the edges. Good to have green space like this in the centre of town
S. J.
Great place to relax or to have a break a small duck pond and water features a few benches some lovely plants and flowers
B. K.
Great views and different things from sitting down on the grass to feeding the ducks to relaxing by the fountain
K. G.
A lovely place to sit, have a chat chilling in the quiet in the centre of all the noise.
C. W.
Fantastic spot to enjoy some lunch.
T. S.
This place hasn't changed in many years but still offers a large green space for people to sit and relax.
G. E.
Lovely place for picnics and to feed the ducks! Wonderful in the summer near the fountain when the flowers bloom.
K. A.
Needs catering to make it better, a nice covered cafe restaurant, lovely spot but nothing to make it a destination
C. P.
Coming together after years of neglect. The new Glasshouse project looks set to transform this area with first class housing. A few coffee places would be a good addition.
S. J.
Was ok. But after living in London this park is no comparison. Shame the ponds are not nice and clean and kept. Quite a few homeless people have took up residence here....
D. M.
Really nice place to go for a meet up with friends or just to go for a quiet-ish lunch, well kept gardens and ponds, great spot for photographs to be taken. Will visit again
E. X.
Great park just needs clearing up of many un respectful people ..take your kids on there you have to blindfold them so they don't see the way some people treat the place ...would be 5 star if it was
P. T.
Lovely calming place, like countryside in a city place. In the sun it's as good as any other green open space.
S. H.
Extremely beautiful place to visit, so many things to see and special events to go to, unfortunately there aren't enough facilities for the amount of people visiting during holiday time.
K. S.
Lovely place to sit and admire the beautiful surroundings
M. T. A.
Very calm and peaceful place where you can sit and relax yourself after shopping and after a long day. Just love to sit there for hours. Must visit.
K. B.
Newly planted flowers look lovely, they did a great job.

Always enjoy a lazy sit around there, weather was great today, everyone seemed friendly.
R. B.
A lovely green area in the middle of a busy town centre. Just needs the repairs to be finished, fencing removed and a bit more colour.
c. w.
It's a nice place to sit on the grass or a bench to have your lunch. It's well kept and has lovely flower beds.

I went to hull pride with my son and Grandaughter and had to climb stairs or go all the way around in my wheelchair.....and waiting for a dissabled toilet when there was over 20 able bodied people in front of me and only 2 accessable dissabled toilets wasn't good.
S. W.
Nicely kept, peaceful place for a picnic.
N. L.
I just walked by today it was nice and clean..... few people doing some exercise. Hopefully once the lockdown is lifted people can keep it like that
m. e.

This is in the town I was born and bred in, queen's gardens leaves nothing to the imagination. It is beautifully kept and maintained and is the perfect place for time out
N. L.
It's lovely during the day and hosts many great events. However, I'd avoid wandering into their at night.
H. A.
Love the flowers and the fountain. Please don't go into the fountains as i spotted a very peculiar scene last time.

Nice to take dogs and children and feed the ducks and sit and have a rest
S. T.
Nice place in the city centre, but needs money spending on it to give it a big revamp otherwise it could end up becoming a problem for the city
