Reviews of Temple Newsam Park
L. V.
Beautiful park, highly recommend the Walled Gardens. Great place for dog walking and/or for a day out with the kids.
C. E.
Love this place, lots of open space and cated for gardens. Great walks and park free of charge. Farm and cafe on site too.
R. S.
Great park. Lots of different walks. The laburnum arch was in full bloom and the rhododendrons were beautiful.
S. d. B.
Loads of different walking routes. Rhododendrons are great just now (mid May). Courtyard cafe is good.
I. W.
This is a large park with loads of green space and good play areas.
The farm is £4 for Adults and £2.70 for children with under 5’s free. The farm is really good and has a play area that is only accessible from the farm. There are lots of cobbles so even though it has disabled access it is very bumpy.
The cafe is reasonable, the shop is very over priced - £2.75 for a jumbo cookie, £2.50 for a caramel slice.
There is lots of outdoor space for eating, but if it is wet there is not enough indoor space on busy days.
There is also a ‘go-ape’ adventure and you can pay extra to go into the house if you feel the need.
Have fun!

Amazing place. We love feeding ducks, the country walks, the rose garden and victorian glasshouse, the cafe, the farm, the play area, the allotment area , the large open grasslands and free parking!. As a family we attend Temple Newsam park regular and often. We usually take our 3yr old to feed the ducks at Menagerie ponds on the wooden bridge. Then sometimes pop up for a stroll round the rose garden which is flat and tarmacked so easy for a child to walk on. The victorian glasshouse is here as well and we enjoy walking through and seeing the flowers and plants here, its a good place to get away from rain, there is a small information section at the end of the glasshouse. All this is free including the parking. We sometimes pop in to the farm (which you have to pay for), this gives us a chance to see sheep, lambs, pigs, piglets, ducks, chickens, donkeys, goats and cattle, there is also Leeds bee association here which has an observation out during Summer. There is also a second play area in the paid for farm section. We still havent been in the main house though which again has an entrance fee. There is a cafe close by to the farm which sells hot drinks, sandwiches and buns. I find the cafe to be a little expensive but nice, we tend to pop in and get a cuppa because virtually everything else is free of charge. There are plenty of areas to have picnics weather permitting. There is a very nice and good sized play area next to the carpark which the little one loves. There are 3 slides here. a couple of climbing frames, 1 large and 1 small, 2 sets of swings. 1 for toddlers and 1 for larger small children and an excellent zip wire which my 3yr old thinks is amazing. If you have more time there are plenty of walks going around the 1500 acre estate.
R. L.
Walked the Perimeter on a beautiful sunny day, Thursday 12th. Walking by the stream lakes below house very mild amd windless.
M. S. L.
Don't go as often as I could, cosindering it's not far. Went with my children today, walking our dog and enjoying an ice cream in the shade. It's really great for a walk around with family and or friends, there's a cafe to get refreshment and a working farm you can walk around (at a charge)
If you're in Leeds, it's worth popping in for a look and sometimes, there's even events on!!
M. H.
Really lovely park on the edge of the city with great walks. Would be even better without all the discarded rubbish everywhere. Managed to fill one carrier in just 6 minutes of walking. Such a shame.
A. H.
Beautiful place that I am very lucky to have on my doorstep. Great for dog walking or a picnic with the kids. Gets very busy when the weather is nice.
A. L. (.
Beautiful gardens, great for a day out. Shame the house and farm cost so much for entry. Still worth a visit on a nice day.
D. B.
Great place to go for walks, picnics or just to lie on the grass, big park for the kids.
T. “. C. C.
It's a decent venue with a range of attractions (farm, go ape, playground, courtyard Market, manner house and gardens). The house is priced lower than its national trust or HHA equivalent, however the extensive grounds are free to visitors, therefore great value. There is plenty of space to fly a kite or kick a ball about if you need to exercise children and teens alike.
T. M.
Great place to walk around but would also recommend a visit to the house has its beautiful
C. W.
Beautiful place to visit and loads to do and see had a few farm visits with the kids and many of walks around the estate with some beautiful views. Next stop will be the house tour can't wait. Has a long history which is very interesting to learn about. For a family day out I highly recommend
C. H.
Great local heritage site with farm on site and bonus go ape one site also
L. C.
beautiful place to go for a walk especially in the winter months, absolutely stunning!
J. W.
An amazing place but what a disgraceful amount of rubbish there is there today after a festival last night. Hardly anyone out clearing it up and the pigs are currently eating plastic bags and chewing on empty cans of Heineken. If you’re going to put on a festival at least make arrangements to clear up expeditiously.
F. R.
Great walks, lovely park with plenty of parking.
F. C.
A place full of greenery, flowers where you can relax, walk, meditate a corner of heaven
W.
Nice place, 3 car parks(1 pay and display others are free) good for a nice walk mainly tarmac paths so good for prams and stuff. Cafe and toilets available and a farm at an extra cost. All social distancing measures in place.
w. f.
Brilliant free parking lots of things to do helpful staff ....
D. H.
Lovely lovely place for walks
W.
Beautiful area. Full of beautiful plants and wildlife. I saw many species' of plants and animals there (including a wild deer) and had a wonderful time walking more than ten miles in its vast expanse. I highly, highly recommend. It makes a great outing for people of all ages and is definitely suitable for trained dogs where they can happily run off lead. There are also some pretty streams and lakes to look at.
V. C.
Lots of beautiful green space here. Lovely gardens too. Does get busy at popular times as there's not a lot of parking.
M. L.
Great gardens and countryside. They need to fix up the old "temple" before it decays further. Rest is beautifully maintained.
A. F.
Great to walk and is very nice. The house isn't cheap but is amazing inside. Free parking and lots of places to walk. All ways an ice cream van there and a nice cafe. Park run on Saturdays which is fun and there is always space for a picnic and place for kids to play.
P. M.
A very large park that is popular with Leeds' many different peoples, I walk the dog here at least once a day and give her a treat from the Stables cafe, the park itself is in parts quite tatty, but Leeds city council does not employ enough staff to clear away the endless leaf detrius and broken branches and trees that are now falling like dominoes which are a safety hazard littering the most popular walking areas. My other bugbear is the state of the house and paths walls which are seriously falling apart, bits are being done, but not enough to stop serious deterioration to the infrastructure, the shameful state of a once fabulous gift to the city.
D. W.
Great big park. Large house, home farm ,Go Ape tree top experience.walled garden for quiet time is my favourite bit.dogs allowed and kids can play football as plenty of space.
R. B.
Great spot. Free parking & lovely grounds. Courtyard and shop is pleasant and keenly priced. Farmyard is well worth a visit especially when it's lambing season.
Kids play area is large and, there is lots of space for dog walking and picnics.
D. H.
A fabulous friendly park where I walk my dog daily. Some great circular walks through fields, along tracks and through some fabulous woodland. Also good tarmac paths within the central part of the park. A children's playground, 3 small lakes, shops, cafe and farm for the little ones. Easy parking with lots of car parks one of which is chargeable.
M. T.
Great day out. Walk the grounds or go into the house. Lovely setting.
S. G.
Superb place to visit in Leeds. The farm is good for kids to learn aspects of farming and how a farm uses to operate years ago. Also, a barn has been used to create a large hay maze that the kids can run around on top of.
Temple Newsam house is a real gem, more for the adult visitor rather than children, but older children would probably enjoy it. It's a superb example of a house of its period and the tour is well worth the money. It's also a reasonable price to enter. At the latter part of the year they do a 'twighlight' tour that explores the cellars, all a bit spooky but good fun.
Great cafe and gift shop too with friendly staff, and a really great play park next to the car park.
Lastly the park is beautiful in any weather, if you do go, try to explore all of it, especially the walled garden and its greenhouse and the ponds and woodlands. There's also a 'GoApe' section of the woods next to the car park for the visitor looking for a more extreme day out
p. p.
In many many ways the best park in Leeds. Loads of history. Fantastic walks great for kids and fogs. Nice cafe but Leeds City council run it so a tad pricy. Nice staff though well worth a visit. Go just go.
M. A.
One of the best parks in Leeds, it's a great place to bring the kids, going for walks and activities. Plenty of parking and a variety of events in the peak months. If you're into photography you can find some great shots here which include shots of the cityscape in certain areas. Highly recommended.
A. B.
Very nice big spacious park. Lots of goats cattle and sheep. You can pet some. They have pigs as well. It's a really big place and lots of events are held there all through the year.
J. R.
Great park. Good for dog walking, picnics and family day out. Lots to fo visit the house, farm or cafe. Lovely gardens and visit the green house, lovely when in bloom.
A. B.
The place is an absolute joy anytime. So we'll maintained!
N. W.
Superb for a brisk walk and the staff have made it easier for us to get round the woodland paths but why are there no ducks and only one Swan on the lakes???
A. K.
Stunningly beautiful, all times of year.
R. R.
Good place to take ur dog's for a day out nice walk round the lake also plenty of grass areas. Nice for picnics with family& friends there is a place for food. Also play area for children. Xxx
D. T.
Lovely walk on the grounds ,surrounded by people taking picnics and cyclists and dog walkers..very clean in all area so good for all families..
A. C.
Vast park with a farm for the kids, large lake and other attractions. Large stately home for the adults to visit. The playground is excellent and popular with the children.
T. H.
Fantastic Park located a short distance East of Leeds. Easy access from the A1/M1 link road. Clean & tidy, great gardens, park run, Manor house Museum, reasonable price & a good day out. Small farm to occupy the little ones. Well worth a visit.
T. H.
Great for a lovely stroll. The dog loves walking the through the woods. Really nice house and grounds too.
J. S.
The best public park in Leeds but as all public spaces, there is not the money to maintain the place. Also they allow the staff to park adjacent to the Elizabethan house. So if you like to take pictures. Then this is a big let down.
A. B.
A great fund raising day for JDRF.
M. W.
I'm a local and love this place. It never gets boring.
D. H.
A great afternoon out. The house is full of history and well worth a visit. The farm is home to many rare breeds. There's plenty of space for picnics and ball games.
G. H.
Great place to wander, lots to see when fully open farm ,house ,grounds , Go ape etc .
M.
Amazing place, so much space and areas to explore.
A. S.
Lots of things to see. Clean. Perfect for a walk, read a book under the tree, spend time with familly or taking a pictures.
D. C.
Outstanding area of heritage and natural beauty that is free for dogwalkers and hikers. The farm and house tours are understandably extra, but it can be a day out on any budget.
J. S.
Beautiful park and grounds, House is impressive and farm is great for kids. Visited the newly refurbished cafe but found it to be on expensive side for what you get and choice is very limited so was left disappointed.
B. J.
A nice walk and ice cream on a sunny Sunday. Plenty of parking but a bit slow to get out. 3 year old loved the kids outdoor play area.
R. J.
Great place for the family day out. The cafe has had a makeover too and although it has lost some of the homely feel, it's much more functional, which is great with a family in tow.
S. M.
It must be one of Leeds city councils gems massive park area with woodland with follies rodededrum different types of cattle in the fields a farm area for children to visit ponds play areas .There are just endless out door opportunities lots of events all year round !! The house views on to the house are spectacular what a stunning build beautiful to wander through its rooms and halls wow just wow .Come and see this gem any time of year you will be amazed and it belongs to the city of leeds .Now the children play ground is safe safe good fun
