Lovely memories made here 💖 ....

I have enjoyed Crane Park since I was a child, usually starting out at Mill Road In Twickenham and walking west towards the Shot Tower at the Whitton end.
This time I ventured further, towards Pevensey Nature Reserve and Hounslow Heath.
The surroundings are great but it starts to feel a little isolated the further West you go, and you may feel a little intimidated as a solo walker.
M.
Great place for a lovely quiet walk. Can hear the birds sing here. Lots of people bring their dogs for a walk here. Can get very muddy during rain so wear appropriate boots/shoes.
a. k.
One of the most beautiful places for a family picnic ❤️
A. H.
Really lovely place to walk around. Bit muddy this time of year so do be wary but really cute to walk around and see birds flying around and the little trail was fun to follow, I'm excited for summer to see the flowers !
F. t. L.
Great little place in the heart of a residential area. A hidden London gem. No food options around. Hounslow high Street is 5 min drive away. As for the park, it can be conquered in 1 hour and has the natural beauty Londoners crave.
S. M.
Great place for walking/dog walking and cycling, or just to sit and relax nice quiet and friendly, beautiful scenery too!
C. G.
The island is a beautiful nature reserve with warblers, kingfishers and water voles so it is really important that people do not take dogs on the island, there is lots of space in the main park for dogs.
L. F.
Being a local, I just love this park. Every season is gorgeous. I come here every weekend for a run and there are lots of people walking their dogs, cycling or just enjoying a pleasant stroll.
A. A.
I love taking walks here, my little cousins love playing by the river. Good place to have picnics or playing batminton. Good for little ones.
S. P.
Quiet interesting and worth a stroll around. I also discovered on returning home what the Shot Tower was used for too, which I believe opened in the late 1760s, it was thought to have been a windmill for recirculating water to power gunpowder mills in Crane Park itself. I don't think it was officially a park then though as the park itself I believe opened in 1935. There are also a couple of millstones next to the tower which were used to grind saltpetre which is one of the ingredients of gunpowder. Very interesting.
M. G.
Wonderful place for jog. They have preserved the forest as it is. Kudos to the people behind.
J. A.
With everything that's been done to crane park it really is a beautiful place with fantastic wildlife if you're lucky enough to get a glimpse
G. T.
Had a nice bike ride through this narrow park which circles the river Crane. This park is used by joggers, cyclist, dog walkers and walkers.
R. T.
Looked small on the map but there's a lot to explore! A great place to take a walk! Just be careful when walking, some parts can be uneven, lots of spider webs and a couple of sharp plants! A few trash and litter in the water which annoyed us, but other than that, a great park!
M. E.
Nice and peaceful the river and surrounding woods are much cleaner than donkey Woods and Brazil mill woods.
R. M.
Lovely little walk, if you need to just take a breather and walk, I highly recommend it
D. B.
Just a lovely place to relax, unwind, walk the dog and observe nature, right in the middle of a built up area.
P. B.
Omg this place gets 10 out 10 we had such a nice time and the kids loved it.... we will be back for sure...
J. R.
Great place to go for a quiet family walk.
J. A.
Been going here since I was a kid. A lovely place to enjoy the sun. Theres something for everyone. From an outdoor gym to tennis court, basketball court, kids and teens playground and a cafe. There are also toilets and and a river to stroll down and huge plain grassy grounds for picnics.
A. T.
Nice quiet place for walking and having fresh air, the pathways need attention.
R. A.
I go for walks all the time it's very quiet and relaxing and the sound of the water it's a plus!
H. C.
Lovely walk, be careful in winter or when it rains, can get very muddy
L. S.
Great cafe. Lovely wildlife. Not too crowded
P. G.
You can walk to Twickenham from here, and it's highly recommended.
d.
Beautiful. A real nature reserve in South West London. The River Crane goes along a green corridor and there's lots of green space. The Shot Tower sometimes run community activities lead by Friends of the River Crane Environment and London Wildlife Trust
A. W.
A jewel of London's surround. The main park has a wild aspect to it which is welcome and surprising given its proximity to built-up areas. The nature reserve at the centre is a lovely, secluded place, flanked by the split river, with a nice bit of history along with it. All in all, a great place to go for a short stroll and get back in touch with nature.
m. f.
Lovely long walk along the river, dozens of Mandarin ducks being the highlight.
N.
Great Riverside walk.Very nice as all around there is very urbanised.
S. K.
Park best known for its interesting history and beautiful river that runs through the middle of the park
G. M.
Shame the cafe doesn't open until 1.30 but apart from that it was lovely. Looking forward to seeing it again in the summer.
p. f.
crane park is a little slice of green in amongst monster traffic.. there are a few tributaries that go from green to green but mostly there is heavy traffic either side of you.. good for avoiding rush hour and enjoying the weekend
J. R.
A lovely walk down near the river. Well used by walkers, dog walkers, joggers and cyclists. Very enjoyable.
K. B.
Nice Park. Good walk, biking fine as well.
T. B.
One of my go to places just to take a break and listen to the noise of flowing water. A trip during the morning hours weekend is also enjoyed by people who come for a walk, runx with their pets or with their cameras.
There is enough places for people to sit on both sides of the river. However I felt that the, north side if the river gives you access to more paved roads and building structures and the southern side was more open and gives more access to the river.
During the fall season, the place just lights up with coloured of the season, if you spend enough time can also see a few species of birds and fishes who also enjoy this park along with you.
T. M.
Very interesting walks around the island in the middle AND a Parkrun venue!
D. C.
Good place for a walk around not sure when the tower is open
D. C.
Excellent place for relaxation and a dog walk
D. S.
Lovely place to walk .
Good for dog walks .
H.
Hidden gem. Must visit. 90 Min and you front the lot. Good for small kids but they need there hands held. Parking is free on residential roads. You can walk in the stream. Others came in shorts and no socks. It will get busy on a hot summer day but there is enough stream to go around. Park area also for a kick about. Download the activity reading pack for the younger from the website. Don't ask me what site, just Google it.
U. P.
Great ol e to run, walk the dog and just relax. A bit of a natural retreat in the heart of Hounslow.
K. L.
Love it very good environment and very big too!
D. L.
Nice walk for a city. Lovely river running by. Great for cycling too.
J. G.
Great atmosphere
j. c.
It is a lovely place for a long walk and a picnic with family and lots of natural nature and areas where you sit down for food or sit down if you get tired love it
R. M.
Lovely Park left in a state of semi wilderness which is great. Lots of areas to explore with a long history of gunpowder production.
There is a tower called Crane park tower which historically I understand used to be a shot tower, now converted to educational purposes. Currently run by I understand volunteers. There is a wonderful nature reserve on the island by By the shot tower which sadly has been left to decline since there were some political issues with the management still a highly recommended place to visit for a stroll along the river side and openspace or cycle with the children
J. O.
Great walk along Crane River leading to Shot Tower
F. M.
Nice place but very quiet. Had a nice water body flowing through the park. Lots of greenery.
G. G.
The garden was wonderful, the river was 🥶 freezing but the people very rude
A. B.
Crane Park isca gorgeous mix of mainly wooded areas, but with open spaces too that include a children's play area, seating areas and a river running right down the middle of it.
C. D.
Nice for dog walking, and meeting other doggers,
F. K.
Hidden away, but we'll used by locals, loads of wildlife. Worth a walk
S. A.
Crane Park is a great park for all, with its nature reserve, the history of the shot tower and access to wonderful wildlife sightings. It's a great walk with paved path ways (for those wetter days) or muddy tracks along the river for you to explore and get muddy in. I love visiting the park with my dogs. They have a great time exploring and always come home exhausted.
M. N.
The lovely weather with pure oxygen
L. B.
Nice place to walk the dog. Has an historic shot tower which is open most Sundays.
P. 1.
Beautiful and peaceful nature retreat. A haven for flat owners.
W. K.
Nice nice Park. A very great Thank you to all the Volunteers, helping to keep this historical Park open and running.
M. D.
Lovely bit of green space with good outdoor play area for kids & adults; zip wire & fitness structures. Interesting bit of history with the shot tower. Great place for dog walking. Unfortunately, you will across some undesirable on occasion; 'adults' in groups drinking. I would not recommend being in this place after dark.
U. E.
Discovering this park after a long day of screen watching and lesson planning. I really appreciate the sound of birds chirping and watching others cycle past and enjoying it all. I will most definitely be visiting again
T. P.
The tower may be shut for the foreseeable of the future but the island is alway open & EVERY kids lives exploring an island.
If you're wearing wellies AND the river level is low enough its possible to wade across carefully & slowly from the island mid-way down on the east side, which adds to the adventure for children.
N. R. (. R.
First time at the park and I was on the cycle. Must say I love it! Highly recommended for walking, cycling and running!
S. D.
Wonderful nature walk
A. F.
An awesome place to appreciate the beauty of nature. A great natural reserve as well. Me sitting on the rivulet.
A. H.
Very nice park/open space, play space for children, cafe with seating outside & toilet.
Lovely walks around and river.
Good place to take children, elders & dogs
J. B.
Excellent place to go for cycling, jogging, hiking or just sit and enjoy nature and hear the chirping of the birds. Good place for Orionthology/bird watching.

Bit of wilderness in the city. Great for walking dog, cycling or jogging.

Amazing place to visit on a Holiday.
S. F.
Very cool place, experienced like we are in India 🇮🇳 Nice family park everyone must go there to enjoy in lovely mood with family, friends, colleagues
M. C.
My granddaughter and I love this place. Lots of little paths to explore and a good long walk by a river in a beautiful countryside setting
M. D.
Great place for walk
M.
Came for the parkrun, but lovely park. Would never have known about it otherwise. Quiet and peaceful, with a picturesque wood and river. Hidden gem. If coming by car, parking could be a challenge, as it is surrounded by residential roads.
D. T.
I cleaned the windows on Ellerman Avenue, just behind the park. I only nipped in the park for a wee in the bush. Which is great in the summer as someone can be only feet away and not see you but if you get caught short in the winter you have to be much more careful not to be seen, through the bare bushes. Don't even think about a poo there in the winter.
V. S.
Lovely walk with your dog
S. H.
Interesting walks either wild with mud paths and brambles or very civilised paths. If you like greenery you will love this.
C. M.
A beautiful place to walk but it's secluded and isolated with no facilities within it or nearby.
S. S.
Visited crane park over the weekend and it was awesome... We enjoyed a lot... Very well maintained park. The river water was so clean and cold. Best place for picnic with family and friends.
L. H.
We walked through Crane Park. There r plenty of pretty benches to look at. There is a playground, but obviously we didn't use it. It has shady parts, which r good on a hot day.
M. T. &. M. J. L.
Today nearly got run over by a young male on a motor scooter no number plate
L. H.
Really nice place to go. There is lots of greenery and wildlife. There is some great history in this place with the shot tower. There is lots of shouting you could hear when I went there. Big place to walk dogs and good place to take pictures of wildlife. *Do not go here after dark*
D. K.
I absolutely love this park, that is good to walk/cycle through regardless of the weather, but especially great on a sunny day. I cycle through it and it offers an escape from the world on the main path or via the more natural path that follows the river bank.
It's well looked after, with plenty of different tracks to follow or walk a dog. If you follow the river's path, passing under a couple of bridges, gets you all the way to Richmond College grounds, where another 10 minutes gets you to Twickenham high street.
K. T.
Great place for walking around. It’s a bit busy on the weekends but plenty space for dog walking, bird-watching with children. Just stunning
S. Z.
Clean, hygienic premises with great bakery, large selection of continental cheeses and wine at reasonable prices.
Easy parking and friendly helpful staff?
J. G.
This is a nice place to do a lap or two of walking around next to the small stream in it. It is a calm and nice place. I saw a woodpecker fly over my head and land on top of the tree right ahead of me.
S. A.
It's an awesome place for my kid... He had super fun in the small water creek in the park.. it is so refreshing in the cold water during this hot sunny day...
A. b.
Nature lovers will admire it. Good for walking , running and cycling. At the same point it looks as if going inside a forest ; dense with trees on both sides of the road.
T. L.
Love meeting new people and their dogs .
B. K.
Summer Stream
Dragonfly lands atop the stick that stands in Crane's gently flowing stream.
Bubble trains and dried leaf boats blow
And briefly strand before they slip between The stepping stones then skip beyond, Where quieter waters flow.
Speckled trout, dappled thrice, with sunshine Spots, just seen through mirror shimmered Waters swim between the Crowfoot’s Tangled shocks waving to and fro to follow As the current’s go, white-adorned with Flower pearls set bright in green and flowing Locks.
Somewhere far, wood pigeon’s triple coo,
Two longer, one double follow through,
Floats high along soft summer’s breeze,
And flagging briefly, one by one, willow’s Silver bellied leaves turn and turn to signal With the sun that all is as it should be.
All is peace, and all is lazy summer’s eaze.

Used to come here as a child 50 years ago. Trip down memory lane for me. Shot tower open for visitors!!! Crystal clear Crane River a delight. Greener and more pleasant than I could have imagined. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole length of the park and had a drink in the Sussex Arms afterwards. Whole family + dog has a lovely walk. Over 5 miles in total. Recommended.
N. T.
Has a lovely parkrun #parkruntourist
J. W.
Fantastic park so many different options. Can go for a good walk or cycle or just have a picnic or kick a ball around

THE HOME OF CRAIG "THE HAMMER" EDWARDS, THE FRIENDLIEST JACKDAW YOU WILL EVER MEET.
I'll never forget the first time I met Craig. I was sat on a bench by the stream that runs through the park. It was a warm day, yet it had just started to rain. It wasn't too heavy, and actually quite pleasant for a while. However, after about 10 minutes, I was soaked through, and the paper lantern that I was holding had been transformed into a mess of wire and mush.
Craig flew down from a nearby tree and sat atop the bench, using his wings as feathery brakes. He turned to me and said "nice weather for ducks". He was right. "You are looking a tad soggy there young man". Right again. "Stay there, I think I can help". And with that he flew up into the trees.
It was a few moments later, when I was a little startled by a rustling in the branches of an adjacent tree, as an object came crashing down on it's way towards earth. Then, I witnessed a navy blue umbrella plummet from the canopy and land with a soft thud on the grass beside the bench. I was so distracted by this that I didn't notice that Craig had reappeared next to me on the other side of the bench. So I was a little taken aback when he said "there you go chum, get that thing up and above your head, we can't have you getting a cold out here".
Well of course, I thanked him profusely, and we had a lovely chat on a wide range of interesting subjects. We have remained firm friend ever since. In fact, he was the best man at my wedding.
Five stars.

I visit this park very often. It's one of the nicest places to visit close to Hounslow. It's normally quiet and it has a long walk from Hounslow to Whitton that it's perfect for a day out. It has a small nature reserve that can be visited next to the tower. Take some drinks with you. There isn't any place to buy one inside the park.
T. F.
Such a nice day. So I decided to have a look in the park. After checking the very special friut tree's in the orchard that I helped to plant I walked on. As I walked on I found one of the wild life seat sculptures on its side with the fantastic help from a local chap we managed to upright it. With my deed done for the day I strolled back home.
C. K.
Lovely walk, you can walk all the way to Twickenham and its a really scenic place.
D. A.
The dogs love it here, running about.
M. L.
Very nice quiet walk in an urban area, I hadn't done for a good number of years. River Crane, Rifle Tower and such a change from our Sunbury Walks.

A lovely place for a walk
r. r.
Lovely local outdoor natural area.
Walking/cycling/running
Lots of birds and butterflies
Big outdoor play space climbing frames, zip wire
K. K.
Beautiful bit of green space in Twickenham. There is a good spot for paddling off the nature reserve, and the shot tower is open during non covid times on Sundays and school hols.
S. R. E.
Crane River is beautiful with lovely walks for families, friends, jogging, dog walking or even having a picnic.
The nature reserve is peaceful and relaxing with fresh water running through it and wildlife.
H. E.
Love this park and the creek stream! Fantastic for runs or just to let the kids and adults paddle in the stream. Great date spot too
a.
There is lots of space to walk your dogs and play games.
G. D.
A riverside walk along well kept but sometimes muddy paths through the trees.
B.
Nice little nature reserve , newts, frogs, an array of bird life very little trash left by locals.shot tower is interesting too
M. S.
A really nice park where you really wouldn't expect it. Very tranquil in places and great for photography. Opening times for the Shot Tower and information centre are roughly as advertised but rarely on time.
P. N.
Wonderful park for cycling and walking. Great views of the river and the Shot Tower. The park is picturesque and shaded by trees for the most part.
S. S.
Great place for family walks, bike rides, picnics etc. Have used it for many years now for regular runs and now it is home to to a great community spirited Saturday morning "Park Run" - many memories there and hope to have many more spent there ... Enjoy
s. m.
I have grown up with this park at the end of my road for over 60 + years. I played in it as a child. I have great memories of going and playing putt on the green near the lake and having ice cream from the tea hut on the green as a child . Also playing every day in the park on what we used to call the wild side .we had great adventures and made camps on the edge of it near what we called the dumps which was at the end of our Basden block where we lived.we had great adventures. Then we moved to the other side Millfarm so it's always been at the end of our road and we have used and loved our park now for over 60+ years. Wouldnt want to live anywhere else. Its our park with great memories.
R. M.
Nice palace to walk with dogs...

Picking wild garlic today....to make soup
A. P.
Nice place for taking a long walk with family or bike riding. However, it's very crowded on weekends.
Y. B.
My favourite park. Love the custom made benches.
D. W.
Much loved narrow strip of park, amazing space to escape, walk, run or cycle alongside the river Crane. There are lots of community initiatives, it is probably one of the best small parks in London.
l. p.
Very popular on sunny days, meaning overcrowded yet still pleasant little hike.

Love the music (Birds singing )

Very nice to go for a walk but no one seems to bother about social distancing. So if you are worried this isn't the place for you.
T. W.
A lovely little walk!
J. A.
Knowing the parks next to the River Crane in Twickenham, I was expecting a plain grassy park with a little stream and was mainly going to see the ruins of the old shot tower. The tower itself is actually not a ruin, but more amazingly, Crane Park is actually densely forested, with reed beds down by the river, scrubland full of nettles and undergrowth, and in summer it's full of life: butterflies and dragonflies galore. There are fish swimming in the shallow rapids, and remnants of the former industry as an armaments factory are scattered around. A fascinating place
A. B.
Lovely spot along the river crane which features part of the crane walk. Really great place to walk the dog with litter bins lining the route and a beautiful open space to run around and play in.
k. s.
A lovely park to enjoy & walk through with a stream running through, a nature area to spot all sorts off wildlife.
H. C.
I have always loved Crane Park. It has remained almost unchanged for years, although they have done-up one of the entrances to make it a bit more salubrious. Great for wandering or more adventurous exploration.
O. S.
Lovely part of the park with lots of wildlife and great plants with a lovely little river. Highly recommended and not too many people around.. perfect for some peace!!
J. H.
Nice little riverside park. Great for walks, cycling with the kids etc. Cafe and toilets at far eastern end, Kneller Gardens, museum and nature reserve at western end on site of old gunpowder works.
A. M.
A low-key nature reserve in Twickenham that's overgrown and natural and in fact looks like a scrappy piece of open land from the busy A316. Its wild nature makes it completely different from most of the other public outdoor spaces in the area, which while beautiful, tend to be more park-like, constrained affairs. A walk through here on a sunny day, listening to the birds singing in the trees, is a real treat. In the center of the park is Crane Park Island itself, an island formed by a parting of the Crane River. The area was once the site of a gunpowder mill that lent its name to nearby Power Mill Lane. The impressive brick shot tower, in which small balls of lead called shot were once made by dropping them from a height into water, can still be seen.
M. G.
I always love to cycle on Crane Park. Unlike other Natural Reserves, this one is big but not isolated so you can always view houses to one side. There are several entrances and I always use the one on Hounslow Road. There is even cycle lane and pretty houses nearby if you decide to walk.
N. S.
Great for photography of Nature when you time it right. There are relics of past war industry left in the growth and wild flowers. If you're a jogger this is great. Take care as at certain times the east side of the island can be water logged or submerged.
R. M.
Lovely Park left mainly to its own devices left in its own semi-natural state. A nature reserve on the island with a circular walk. An interesting shot Tower that is open occasionally on a Sunday. Believe it or not they are occasionally signs of deer on the island. Footprints may be seen in the mud after rain. Amazing to think that so close to London we have wild dear roaming the park. A circular walk can be made from the Hanworth Road along the Richmond side of the river Crane up to the 316. Turn right through the gate before the bridge along the 316, 200m and turn right along the first pathway back along on the Hounslow side back to the Hanworth Road. Alternatively from Hanworth Road one can walk straight down under the bridge on the A316 down towards the swings and Tennis Court at the far end of the park. Not a great distance , and path is reasonably good all round. Would allow a maximum of one and a half hours at an easy pace.
P. M.
Really nice natural place for walking with plenty of History

Oasis in a large residential area
It may only be a couple of hundred metres wide in places but Crane Park is special. In the busyness of southwest London, it really is an oasis of calm with the pretty river Crane running through it. You can walk for several miles now from opposite Twickenham railway station along a new bit of path called the 'Rough' (probably technically not Crane Park but as far as I'm concerned, it's all part of the same green strip of land along the River Crane!) passed near The Stoop stadium, under the railway bridge, through Kneller Gardens then across Meadway into Crane Park proper and walk all the way to the Shot Tower and beyond. You can loop round and come back a slightly different way for some of the route on the other side of the river. Great for cycling, dog walking and blackberry picking!
J. H.
Good functional local park. Popular with dog walkers and children. It hosts a 5k Parkrun at 9am every Saturday morning which is well attended.
C. H. v.
First time going.. beautiful woodland park. Nice place if you need to escape from days to day life.
J. S.
Lovely place to walk, allowing the dogs and children to let off steam.
Has a grade 2 listed Shot Tower once used for the manufacture of lead shot and gunpowder mill.
The same site was used earlier in 1066 as a sword foundry.
The Shot Tower has an information visitors centre with toilets and is open on Sundays 1pm till 4pm.
The park named after The River Crane which runs through it, has reedbeds, scrub, and woodland. Is run by the London Wildlife Trust and has a variety of rare birds, insects, fish and plants.
In close proximity to Apex Corner, Great Chertsey Road, Hanworth, Feltham, Twickenham Cemetery and South West Middlesex Crematorium Gardens.
Nearest station is Whitton.

This is a lovely place for a walk for all ages. They have some very pretty wild flower areas at present
L. B.
Local nature reserve with riverside walks. Historical legacy includes the Shot Tower, where lead shot was made. Part of the site was home to a gunpowder mill (the name Powder Mill Lane is the only evidence of this now). Popular with dog walkers and cyclists. There is a childrens plaground on the Hanworth side of the river.

One of London's hidden secrets is this park, which is very long and thin (or very wide and narrow, depending on your perspective!). A great excuse for an urban/secluded natural park explore.

D. R.
I love this place, so much local wildlife to see.
P. C.
Open space containing the river Crane and Duke of Northumberland river. Nature reserves frequent the banks of the crane. Sadly the council and Environmental agencies have let the area get I to disrepair with the flooding of the river with raw sewage and deicer from Heathrow airport. The river remains polluted and has lost the majority of its flow. The park has fallen into disrepair however I hope this is just the terrible councils letting nature take over once more.
S. R.
