Reviews of Stave Hill Ecological Park - TCV
e. t. (.
Great park near the Thames. Fantastic view from the top of the hill. You can see the shard, Canary Wharf, the gherkin building. Nice walk through the ecological park. There is a open area that you can have picnic and a few things like climbing frames, swings that the children can play. There is free parking nearby. We had a nice time here.
D. M. F.
Stave Hill is probably one of the most amazing view points in Rotherhithe, yet is only known by locals. Just a few stairs and you will raise above all trees within the surrounding area, with 360 views to all London, highlighting City of London and Canary Wharf.
S. P.
Love having this place in the area. A nice place to escape the hustle and bustle of London life. The hill also has great views across the City and Canary Wharf too
J. S.
I have many memories of visiting Stave Hill especially with my dearly departed Yorkshire terrier Ben. Bless him. <3
Stave Hill is a nice place to visit especially during the summer months when the sun is shinning and there are clear blue skies.
A great place for photography where you can take photos of the sky scrappers in the distance.
A good place to exercise too for running up and down the stairs if that's your thing! :)
I never get sick of the views whenever I visit this place. :)
Be sure to check it out too! :)
O. S.
Stave Hill mound is an ideal location to get a good photo of both the City and Canary wharf skyline.
Close to Canada Waters Station and located in the Ecological Park. A green oasis.
A. N.
This place is beautiful another one of London's not known hidden gems! Has a wonderful view of Canary wharf and an interesting stair case! Would recommend to anyone who loves a good view or even a good walk I managed to walk alot around this place it's massive! And it's so cool how it is right next to the Thames and litreally next to the centre of London! Very unexpected but cool piece of London!
D. P.
Incredible views of Canary Wharf and the surroundings. Definitely need to explore the park fully next time
V.
Nice hill with a good view of the Canary Wharf and a distant landscape of the City of London. The hill is surrounded by a park/natural reserve. Good for taking a relaxing stroll.
M. J.
Stave Hill forms the centre of an ecological park in the middle of the Rotherhithe peninsula. Constructed, as this hill is most certainly not a natural formation, on the route of the old canal and docks network it is in a surprisingly dense woodland area. Looking out from the top, woodland obscure the nearby buildings, and give amazing views of Canada Water across the river, and the city of London.
E. B.
i actually like this place, me and my boyfriend walked here . nice times :)
M. D.
Very tranquil and beautiful. Volunteers obviously put lots of time, effort and love into looking after the place. All their efforts are very much appreciated.
A. H.
Odd man made hill just south of the Thames in Rotherhithe. It’s an easy climb up stone steps and there are terrific views from the top across to the ever expanding number of skyscrapers in Docklands and back to the cluster of skyscrapers in the City. Apart from St George’s Wharf you can see every tall building in Lindon from here. There’s a lovely little ecological park at the foot of the hill.
T.
In the centre of the park is an iron 3D map that shows all the quays and the area in general, many years ago. Been here with mi parents ever since I was a kid, great hidden gem this side of the river! It feels like the countryside especially in the summer, theres tons of flora, fauna, paths to get lost in, banging views of the city centre & Canary wharf and secret fruit trees you can snack from :))
S. R.
Such a beautiful place! Beautiful views being able to see The Shard, The Gherkin and Tower Bridge.
One of the best viewpoints for London's skyline I've seen.
If it hadn't have been so cold I would have sat and read on the hill.
Will be recommending to everyone.
T. L.
Wow, an amazing place to go for a walk. Go to the top of Stave Hill for breathtaking views across London. Wander around the tranquil ecological park afterwards. Absolutely beautiful! I wrote an article for my blog, here are some photographs to tempt you!
Y. A.
As soon as we enter in the park early in the morning, lived the enchanting music of singing birds. We recognised the sounds of humming birds, pigeon, crow and sparrows among the number of many other. It is lush green with walking tracks of different styles. From carpeted road like to concrete and rough unfinished natural ground. The steep hill at the end provides great views to London.
There’s park office and visitors area inside and various play opportunities for kids.
R. H.
Well maintained woodland area near Surrey Quays. Perfect place to go for a walk. Quite a few different trails and areas to explore as well as a cool viewing platform and a small lake.
C.
Lovely park and woodland. Great to see the local wildlife such as butterflies and birds. Some areas are difficult to manoeuvre with a pushchair or wheelchair.
A. G.
Beautiful park in south London. It has a nice garden inside that’s worth visiting. The best part is at the top of a small hill that offers a view of London at 360 degrees.
Z. H.
There are not many places around Canada Water where you could rise above the trees by climbing a cute little hill, but this one is definitely worth visiting. It's also surrounded by a beautiful wild(ish) forest which is beautifully maintained and kept its wonderful diversity. Cuz diversity is what keeps our world unique and worth exploring, don't you think? :)
A. M. P.
Large open spaces, natural beauty and loads of stuff to do, from climbing hills to feeding ducks and observing rare species of various bugs. Very well, ecologicaly maintained green spaces and impressive natural fences.
A. T.
If you're in the area, Stave Hill is a great spot to get good sunset views over the London city centre and lovely hues looking eastward towards Canary Wharf. Also take a walk through the lovely natural eco park paths, woods and meadows.
J. C.
Nice outdoor and quiet space in the south, with direct views towards Canary Wharf. The area surrounding this park is beautiful as well to explore. There’s a little hill from which you can have some views of the city skyline.
M. L.
Really good 360 views with good steps to lead to the top. Good photo point for sunsets. Easy access.
A. F.
The best ecological park you’ll ever find. Potentially the only one. The huge volunteer army that runs this place is quirky AF and keen to prove it. Expect to get lost, and love every minute of this eccentric Frankenstein nature labyrinth. Go at night for extra spooks. No lighting and generally empty. If you run into someone you’ll get the fright of your life and scream like a girl. At least that’s my experience.
S. B.
Lovely views across South East and East London from here and at night Canary Wharf looks especially breathtakingly beautiful. Lovely birdsong as next to the park.
N. H.
Hard to believe this beautiful green piece of land is in the heart of London. Very nice view of London skyline.
C. C.
Love walking round the woodland so much wildlife to see
S. D.
With views of Canary Wharf and London City, many people come here to relax in the summer and take in London where you can't be disturbed.
C. w. t. F.
Amazing views unbelievable really of the city and Canary Wharf. I found the park slightly creepy however and was quite nervous if it getting darker.
L. p.
What a wonderful views and I didn't even know the existence. Kids had lot of fun discovering this place!
J. B. (.
I have visited this park a couple times and it is a great piece of green space smack bang in the city. It has a lot of interesting spots, such as local community driven projects and quaint little trails in and amongst the forestland. However the main star of this park is Stave Hill itself, a mound of dirt that when at the top gives you an amazing view of Canary Wharf, London, the Shard and the surrounding residential areas.
A. C.
Very beautiful place. Family friendly. Good to come with kids. A very nice view point on the hill.
L. T.
I love this local park so much! Well-kept, still a bit "wild" so I feel like I'm in the country when I visit.
L. D. L.
Great spot with an extended view over London.
Been here on New Years Eve to see the fireworks, but came back here with my telescope on clear nights as offers 360degree view and less light pollution the staying next to roads and buildings.
S. M.
Great spot to get a panoramic view of the London skyline.
H. “. H.
Excellent place to chill with a drink and watch the sun go down
T. R.
1000th review. Just wanted to claim this milestone.
Also, I will be visiting the park shortly!
I. G.
One of my favourite spot. Quiet and with a nice view.
B. Y.
what a wonderful park, not far from Canada waters and Surrey Quays. A lovely place to sit and think, watch the world go by and just rest.
A. M.
It´s a very nice park, I walked through it to go the market and is always refreshing to feel like you are in a forest for a minute. As well in the center there´s a nice spot with a nice view
M. S.
Astonishing view of Canary Wharf at night! Great place to walk, cycle and enjoy nature
A.
Simply the best park in London..
Ecological Park where you can escape the city and feel in the woods.
The hill is amazing with a great view (Tower Bridge, the Shard, London eyes, Canary Wharf, Sky Garden...)
The only flaw is the surface as the top of the hill not being flat.. !
D. H.
Loved this hidden gem in Surrey Quays! A park that actually is not like a park and more like a wood with various type of layouts and walking paths suitable for every age and lovely for dogs!
P. M.
Such a wonderful park! Lots of areas to enjoy!
C. F.
One of the hidden gems of Rotherhithe. Very cool ecological park and Bush area.
S. M.
Compact but shady and full of private grassy areas to share a picnic with friends. The hill is small but has fab 360 views towards the island, the city, the shard, Crystal Palace and South London. The habitat is beautifully managed to provide an oasis for birds, amphibians and insects in the heart of urban London. Recommended for a sunny afternoon of you're in the area.
P. W.
I love this park. The views from stave hill include the city, Canary Wharf, the millennium wheel, the shard, the Olympic park and the list goes on. It’s green and full of foxes and parakeets and herons. It feels safe and has lots of little trails to walk round. It has a lot of semi wild spaces, and when in the forest, you can’t see any of london. Although you can hear it!
Without this park, the whole of rotherhithe would not have survived lockdown.
J. T.
My beloved Rotherhithe. Lived there for 15 years. Ecopark in cental London is a luxury.
И. Г.
Fantastic place to discover nature and disconnect from the busy city environment
s. c.
A tranquil haven for nature, both Fauna & Flora. Some rare birds and plants to be found in this 36.5 acre Oasis in Central London.
P. G.
The park has an amazing view over Canary Wharf. A perfect place for a family picking!
I. T.
Beautiful natural setting in the urban sprawl. Great people at TCV
C. B.
Great view
A. B.
Beautiful views of London and a great place to watch the new years eve fireworks! (Don't worry, normally it's empty)
w. a.
Great views from top of the hill. Started raining quite heavily as soo as we got there so had to rush back. Would definitely be back again.
T. C.
I came away with so many ideas to make my own community in Child's Hill North London an ecological and even greener area for our community. Stave Hill Ecological park is a must for anyone interested in ecology and well being.
A. S.
There's a little Hill which will give you amazing views of the city
I. D.
Really nice park and the view from the hill is excellent
C. N.
Was cycling around the old Docklands and found this place. Fabulous views of all the old dockland areas. Some now grassland some residential and the contrast with those developed into brand new skyscraper office developments. Reminded me of the late 80's when many said Canary Wharf would never work. Look at it now from here and eat those words eh! :)
M. J.
Fascinating little place, very interesting with fabulous views of London.
M. H.
What a beautiful place and I feel. Like I am inside the vitoria Park, located in the city and such a busy area but full of life and very clean place to hang around or for walk. I visit the place regularly as i live not too far and close to our office.
It's just so beautiful and hidden place in the city for breath.
I love to come here for walk and excerise and for fresh air.
L. C.
Fantastic - people who look after it deserve a lot of respect.
p.
Curiousity brought us to this park & we were not dissapointed. Lovely little area of green with dense woodlands, thriving with wildlife. Nice to see so many birdhouses dotted around & bird activity. Bit of an oasis really. If you are into conservation and wildlife (birds, butterflies etc). Not the cleanest of lakes & ponds (ppl using it as dumping ground! Shame!). Nice views from the top of the mound where you can see canary wharf etc). Overall, was pleasantly suprised. A lot of hard work obviously gone into this place. Kudos to all the volunteers/locals that maintain this place.
G. S.
A great place to visit for nature at its best.
T. Z.
Nice off road walking experience. Amazing view of The River Thames & The City. The dog enjoyed the sightseeing as well 😃
林.
Stumbling into this hidden gem on my way back home. Will come back someday and have a hiking.
I. M.
An oasis in South East London with great views of Docklands and the City
S. P.
Looking for a beautiful 360ْ view of London skyline? For a quiet time alone in nature without leaving London? Or just want to remember how many colours autumn has!? This spot will give you all, and some, time after time after time, Never looking the same...
without charging you a penny !
J. N.
A quiet and surprisingly well-kept bit of wood with a scenic view over part of London. I quite enjoyed walking here with my kids as we viewed birds, spring blossoms, and half-slumbering toads. It was a nice retreat as the pandemic began, and a reminder of another world outside of busy city-life.
R. M.
It's a hill you can see the skyline. It's not that big, but it's a hill. A nice hill. A great hill for kids. Just a hill nothing more nothing less. Our hill.
L. M.
Had a lovely walk, discovering the area, beautiful views.of the London skyline, surrounded by beautiful nature at its best.
E. T.
It's a great oasis in the concrete jungle. You climb up the 30 stairs...or run up the side of you're in a workout mood...and you're rewarded with 360 degree views of London, primarily Canary Wharf and the City. It can get crowded in a nice, sunny day, but totally worth the stop. Highly recommend
M. P.
Even though it's not that high, the flat London makes it a great view from up there on Canary Wharf and London City.
1.
Great view on canary wharf!
G. P.
Brilliant place with perfect view ☺️
L. S.
Great ecology site. Doing great things for the environment and the local community. Pop along Wednesdays to volunteer.
M. T.
Very quick and easy way to get a close view on Canary Wharf panorama. Little mini map of Canada water area located on the top
C. C.
Soo nice place with a beautiful view !!
r. s.
a very nice park, as if straight from a fairy tale
A.
Easily accessible viewpoint, where you can see Canary Wharf, the City and the London Eye. Places to sit and relax, as well and enjoy the history.
J. M.
A little-known gem in south-east London. Stave Hill offers the best 360 view.
L. M.
Fantastic place! Great for a walk on a weekend! :-)
S. S.
Nice view, over part of London. Quiet area and beautiful park around.
Very lovely for picnic and family day out at weekends.
Try to find hidden places, you will wondered of beautiful trees.
J. D.
Beautiful park with a hill in the middle of it. Not as impressive as Greenwich or some other parks in London but I'm grateful to have it in my area. It's a good running spot- if you're training your quads you may want to run up the hill!
P. D.
A must visit if you're around. Great views on offer.
M. T.
This is great spot to chill and enjoy the view, it gives you a 360 degrees view from the Shard to Canary Wharf and anything in between!
You'll have to climb about 60-70 steps to reach here!
M. S.
Very nice park with a lot of places to hide. Raw nature in the middle of city. Beautiful landscapes. Ideal for longer walks
I. D.
Love this place! One of the London hidden gems.
a.
My family have been going for walks here all year round for 7 years now. Climb up the stairs of the hill and blow the cobwebs away. Good for a jog too. Nice to explore for kids. One of my favourite secret places in London.
L. C.
You can get a lovely view of London here, a very nice place to visit with your family and children. My family and I went on new year to see the London fire works celebration and we had a fantastic time.
C. L.
Peaceful place view a nice view.
S. M.
I was here for an annual walk for the Reunite charity. Other years, this has been very good but this year, unfortunately, the mid point cafe was closed which for me was very disappointing as this is the place where, in the past, parents were given the opportunity to discuss points with the charity and other parents. If I had known that this facility was not going to be available, I would probably not have visited this time as was travelling from Spain
B. B.
I didn't even know about this place, just stumbled across it during my journey one day. Very lovely!
w. w.
The views are stunning. Try during autumn when the leaves are red and orange.
L. L. T. B.
Hidden viewpoint in the middle of an interesting park
T. S.
Very large, quiet park in a quiet part of London. Great views from Stave Hill and lovely walks amongst open grass areas and past ponds and woods. I love it and I suspect families with kids would too.
J. D.
This is a lovely example of an urban ecology park providing a home for a wide range of flora and fauna. It's thoughtfully constructed with a range of habitats so creating an urban oasis where wildlife can flourish.
Hopefully by 2025 Oxford St will be converted to an urban ecology park and Niketown will be levelled and replacement with a pond.
D. B.
Another hidden local gem. On top of the mound, there is views of London and the Docklands.
I. W.
Great view of the city in all directions.
B. L.
This park is quirky and fun, We always enjoy climbing the man made hill with views of various parts of London and the Docklands. Plenty of the docks stone walkways and cobbles remain so it's fun to wander round various parts of the park and wonder what it would have looked like as a busy dock.
S. H.
I love this park! Has the best views of London and is well taken care of by a hard working team of people. It’s a hidden gem in London, a great place for a picnic and has a great Bootcamp there too :)
J. Y.
Very nice place to climb up to which shows you the canary wharf tall buildings surrounded by trees. There's a group of ppl training for some endurance work are here every Saturday
A. Y.
Stave Hill and the surrounding ecological park is a fantastic place to get a 360 view of SE London and beyond or to train using the gradient of the hill or the stunning nooks and crannies of the park. My clients look forward to our PT and Yoga sessions here. It's fantastic to meditate at sunrise or sunset or even to watch the space station fly-overs!
A. U. K.
Impressive ecological woodland park, educational and research project created on the former Russia Docks wasteland. An artificial mound and the topography present a sweeping vista of Canary Wharf (east) and The City (west)
Kudos to the team implementing and upgrading this ongoing project.
Find the time .. this warrants a special trip and deserves wider recognition....
M. K.
The best natural observation point in South East London with open 360 degree views on The Shard, The City and Isle of Dogs.
S. B.
Very nice view especially from the top of the hill itself. Very quiet area with lots of woodland things. Has an adventure trail too. Kid and adult friendly.
D. R.
Amazing views from the top of Stave Hill and a lovely ecological park full of wildlife.
t.
Very nice hidden woods near Central London. Not huge but big enough for about an hours walk and very dog friendly
I. A.
Nice to watch the sunset
Good to see London landscape
M. C.
LONDON'S BEST VIEW. This place is a gem located in East London. There are plenty of walking tracks and places to stop and lay on the grass.
It seems there are lots of random activity groups that utilise the areas. But, rather than being annoying, they enhance to vibe of the park.
k. k.
The view from the top is astonishing, especially during sunset or sunrise, I really recommend it.
A. Z.
Truly my favourite park in London, the noice little community area in the park is a must-visit place but unfortunately let down by the anti social behaviour of local teenagers walking around in groups. Avoid those teens if you can!
D. J.
I walk around here all the time either with the dog or the wain. It's worth the trek up the hill for the view. Just try not to keep up with the bootcamp folk who sometimes use it for circuits or you may collapse.
G. M.
I love this bit of nature in a secluded part of London, but sometimes the crowd isn't that inviting. I don't mind it myself, but maybe that's why it's so quiet all the time - great to get away from it all.
C. R.
A lovely place for a wander in nature. Seems safe too
E. A.
Sunset is so beautiful from here!
T. J.
Lovely and scenic. A great place to relax and enjoy the panoramic view.
M. R.
It's a nice view
Y. V.
Quite a big & nice park! Plenty of space for outdoor games, many tables to picnic, lots of shade, a beautiful place to be on a sunny day!
J. M.
An amazingly quiet and peaceful place given the location.
S. K.
Great park and when you climb the hill you get one of the best views of London ❤️
F. R.
Great place to view Fireworks on New Year night.
E. W.
A green oasis in former dock land of South East London. Great views as well from the top of the hill. Strangely reminds me of Silbury Hill despite construction being thousands of years apart.
K. B.
Beautiful beautiful!!!!. Just enjoy the view here. Peaceful. Nature at it's best
I.
A mountain with a staircase on it. Interesting and you can see popular buildings at the top such as the London sky garden
A. T.
Amazing 360° view of Canary wharf and the ecological park
I. F.
Don't call it park, but "reserve" :) A bit of wilderness in Central London. Thanks to an attentive management the woodland area is kept at its natural state. Flora and fauna thrive in this environment - in a quick stroll you should see squirrels, ducks, herons during the day and foxes, hedgehogs and bats at night. From the top of Stave Hill you have an amazing view of Canary Wharf on one side and the City on the other, while in a clear day you can see clearly the London Eye and the Orbit in Stratford.
The only hope is that we manage to protect such a beauty from the aggressive house scheme which Southwark Council is putting in place in the area!!
D. B.
Stave hill rises like a beacon from Russia Dock Woodland. An oasis with elevated 360 degree views of London.
Well worth a short detour if you're walking the Thames Path.
d. e.
One of the highest point in this area. Lovely view from the hill. Great place for exercises.
Awesome place to go on New Year night to watch the fire works.
W. P.
What an incredible little find, it's free has an excellent viewing point and is free. Lovely if you want some green space in your life and you're in the area.
A. J.
So peaceful and yet in the heart of London!
M. C.
New year's Eve was nice up Stage Hill.Full of people celebrating. We could see the fireworks, nice view !
A. M.
Ok for the kids to run up and roll down the side
M. H.
Small but nice park, largely litter free, the hill has panoramic views of london's horizon.
A.
One of London’s hidden gems!
V. B.
Beautiful ecological area, well maintained just by volunteers. It would be wonderful if it could be kept this way even after the Canada Water Masterplan...
T. W.
A wonderful example of a well managed and maintained community garden. You can easily get lost wandering the paths and soon forget you're in central London.
J. V.
Great cute from the hill. You can see at least half a dozen London landmarks.
G. Y.
Nice views of Canary Wharf and the sky
J. S.
Well worth a visit and a trip to the top of the hill will not disappoint, beautiful view of London
C. L.
369 views of London. Like what else do you want? Bring beer and chill on the slopes.
s. j.
A great way to help out if ever you're around on volunteering days. They've changed the park around and made it even more beautiful and peaceful.
J. C.
Great views. I've seen quite a few music videos filmed here.
H. S.
Great place to explore if you are interested in nature. Some parts are not wheelchair friendly but those parts which are, are still work going to see
J.
Great cute from the hill. You can see at least half a dozen London landmarks.
M. H.
Loved it amazing views of London must visit it
N. T.
Perfect for admiring the sunset!
J. J.
Lovely place for woodland walk and great view from the hill
S. J.
Quiet, romantic, a small lake in the middle with animals and a hill with a very nice view of the city and canary warhf. On the top there is a model if the old docks.
Z. P.
Nice view. You can see Canary Wharf, the City and the Shard
L.
Nice view over the city, connects to Russia Dock and Surrey Quays basin, altogether a nice place for a walk in London.
R. B.
Best park I've been to London. Why can't more parks be like this one!
E.
Nice little park, very peaceful with some nice little paths. Impressive view from the hill.
T. P.
This is a place you would not know existed unless you had a reason for a visit. Very interesting and The Shed is a great project that is worthy of support. Love it!!
D. H.
Good place to walk around. Varied interesting place, formerly docks. Some were filled in after the war when the area was bombed out of all existence.
K. G.
Just discovered this park recently and have been pleasantly surprised at how they’ve kept so much of the history alive and really made nature the focus with the eco park, the nature playground and more.
