Reviews of Wimbledon and Putney Commons
S. D.
Wimbledon & Putney Commons are vast land of trees, ponds, lakes. We enjoyed our walk there taking in the fresh air and beauty of nature. Make sure you wear proper shoes as the ground can be muddy and slippery. It was pleasant to see people walking their dogs, and children and elderly enjoying their walk.
A. B. d. O.
Nice spot to take a walk, take your kids, your dog… I used to run around the Commons but in the winter gets too muddy so it might not be the best place to jog.
I. I.
Such a lovley walk with children! Fed ducks, had something to eat and drink at windmill cafe! Walked from roehampton through the whole area and back, very long refreshing walk!
S. C.
My first time walking at this park. Great space for a long walk and lose yourself amongst lovely trees. I would recommend this park to walk on a hot day as the paths are shaded.
L. M.
Love this place. Lovely to go for a walk. If you're lucky & quiet enough, you may come across rabbits running around
G. B.
Swings to be found along the way. Lovely walk around the pond and can stop off at the windmills cafe..
M. S. H.
The perfect place to forget for as long as you want that you are actually in London. Lovely walks at any time of the year with beautiful landscapes
L.
This was surprising a really lovely park. I was shocked At the amount of activities in this park. It was really big and lots of walking space. Quite a gloomy atmosphere with the tall trees but a very relaxing and lovely walk.
B. B.
Lovely place between Wimbledon and Putney. Car park.. windmill.. Dogs..LOADS of dogs also horses.. Sneaky spiky slings and of course quantum robins 🌳🌲🌳
L. L.
Lovely open space, hours of walking to do 💯😎
R. B.
Not too busy, with plenty of donation-fee parking, despite being a sunny winter's day. Easy walking. Finished with a relaxing coffee at the London Scottish Golf Club
E. M.
We call it Doggy Disneyland in our house. Absolutely love it. There are 9 ponds to find. Some people don't seem to make it past the Windmill and Queensmere.
Get your walking shoes on, and get away from the crowded parts. If you have a four-legged friend, they will adore it. Be aware of nesting season, and the area where endangered species settle (skylarks, I believe). Take your rubbish home!
A. M.
Lots of places to explore from heathland to woods and ponds. Great for walking and cycling. Lots of mountain bike options even if official trails are quite restrictive. Joins up with Richmond Park so apart from the A3 possible to get away from it all for hours on end.
C. Y. C.
Open land, woods, ponds and many trails. Good place for walking and exploring. There is a large pond on a part of the public area and several hidden ponds in the main forest
P. B.
This is our go to place, walking in the wood feel really nice and escaping from the city. The Windmill really nice and Queensmere Pond is our toddler favourite place to go. He like to feed the ducks, swams and birds. Digging holes. Climbing tree, hill, explore the woood, and chasing birds and squirals, play hide and seek. We once had a party there felt really nice in the middle of the wood. Ofcourse we took our rubish with us once finishing😉👍. To some dog owner, plz look out for your dog after they done their business. Thank you so much for keeping our place nice and clean for everyone and our kids to enjoy the beauty of natural. ❤
M. P.
Beautiful walk in the woods on a hot sunny day. Shelter under the cooling canopy along the stream leading to the lake.
A. C.
Lovely, extensive areas of forest and a couple of ponds (dogs can't swim during the bird breeding season from March to August). The nearest to can get to the countryside in London
I. L.
Incredible piece of nature. Wonderful experience. Comfortable walk embraced by this old and spacious forest that makes you forget you are in the city. Lots of birds were practicing their best songs at that time.
C. W.
Great public space for walking, partly wooded and partly open. Just watch out for golf balls as there is a course that runs through the common.
L. R.
Its a beautiful and calm place. You could see a lot of animal like swans, ducks, rabbits, horse etc. You can feed them. Its a fun time. Bring them some corn, or seeds. They will love it. Nature is truly beautiful and interesting. Totally worth a few hours walk around. Will do it next week again
T. T.
One of our favourite places to walk. Great in all weathers and lots of paths and routes you can take.
R. J.
Love taking my dog to this amazing area, we can walk for hours in the forest.
w. b.
Lovely spot for a Sunday morning walk, decent enough track around the outer perimeter of the commons. Then take a short stroll through High Street and enjoy all the Wimbledon Village Farmers Market has to offer. Go on get down there and try it yourself.
A. P.
A great place to live or spend a few days or even hours. Such a lively place. Parkside wood is indeed a nice place for a long or even a few minutes small walk. So quiet and a refreshing. Wimbledon is also a very nice and lively suburb. Spending even few minutes near Wimbledon train station is also very interesting. Lively people and lively ambiance. Surely worth a visit.
S. C.
All ways good for a long or short walk. Wimbledon common is bigger than you think. You never get bored. Always come across something.
A. R.
Wimbledon Common a place to escape to and chill, or have fun playing around.
This is a large area of woodlands, with little treasures dotted around. Ponds with dragon flies, trees beautifully sculpted by Mother Nature. The area is massive and you can walk for a few hours criss-crossing the common. A treat for children, couples, cyclists and dog walkers oh I forgot photographers.
Personally it is a dry weather venue for me, puddle I can deal with but the rain can dampen your appetite, wellies in the wetter season. I would take a flask of piping hot coffee and snack to complete my exploring of the wonderful woodland. There is a large variety of birds and wildlife to see if you are a little quiet. We found parking on a Sunday which made our trip even better.
As the seasons change so does the dramatic landscape, definitely a place you will keep returning to.
A. I.
Great place to spend a family day out walking, exploring, running, biking. There are a lot of tracks good either for bikes or for walk only if you step out of main trails.
Can highly recommend tea rooms near windmill museum, and the museum is worth paying a visit too.
V. J.
The Windmill cafe is very good and the parking is free. The walks here are varied and there's a great walk up a hill where you can see Richmond. Golfers abound and the Golf Club now offers drinks and snacks to the public upto 7 pm. I got a warm welcome here.
R. J.
Lovely place to walk.walk dog.ride.very wet though at this time of year . Need your wellies .Herons that fly up and down brook.
R. W.
A lovely place to come with the family and dogs etc. Some nice walks through fields and woods with plenty of paths and tracks to take you on new adventures.
Love the windmill and museum. A nice cafe situated on site with plenty of choice and nearby toilets. Good to see fresh drinking water for dogs and a little pub hidden away just at the end of the car park. The free parking with optional donations is well presented and gives ample parking for all visitors including people using the Golf course.
All in all, a little gem
L. M.
Open land and woodland, well-managed, full of bird song, all dog friendly. Come and walk off the lead for hours (if your dog trusts you to come back) and get away from the hurly burly, whether Covid-related or not. Always a new corner to discover.
M. R.
I love our local forest. It is wild and magical 🧚♀️ I recommend to take a few hours off and walk through the woods and into Richmond park, it is most enjoyable and a great way to destress and recharge.
M. T. D.
Lovely spot for a sunrise walk with lots of space and off trails paths. Lots of people but don't feel worried about it and so many dogs !! Great walk to get lost in a podcast.
S. B.
Wimbledon Common, together with Putney Heath and Putney Lower Common is for the benefit of the general public for informal recreation, and for the preservation of natural flora and fauna. It is the largest expanse of heathland in the London area. There is an area of bog with unique flora. The western slopes, which lie on London Clay, support mature mixed woodland.
The common and surrounding golf course are massive and include several large and small ponds. Plenty of open field and walkways but limited cycling paths.
There’s a windmill (also a museum) and a café near Wimbledon Common Golf Club.
If you want a slice of countryside only half an hour to an hour (by tube and on foot) from central LONDON give it a visit. Wimbledon Village has many lovely Cafés and shops and charity shops too, a great day out for walkers (and their dogs).
L.
My absolute favourite place in the whole of London. A great place to recharge and reboot, walk the dogs and spend time with family and friends. There's a wonderful variety of habitats to explore - from dense woodland and Beverly brook to open heathland and grassland with lovely views and wonderful wildlife. The higgledy piggledy, criss-cross paths mean, even after twenty years, my husband and I still enjoy getting lost here every now and again.
J. B.
A stunning park and woodland to go for a walk.
Dogs love it, humans love and golfers seem to have a good time there as well.
K. D.
Oasis of green with a bajillion trails to explore. A good variety of flat and hilly, gravel, grass, woodland floor and mud. The tea rooms and free toilets make this a local mecca for activity from horse riding, trail cycling, running, dog walking and just messing about in nature.
Bonus is parkrun every Saturday and a couple of local running clubs have regular organised runs here too.
K. B.
This is a vast area of open spaces, woodlands, ponds and golf courses. There are lots of paths, but not many signs help g you navigate the many footpaths and bridleways.
G. B.
Great place for a stroll, stop off at the windmill for great coffee and cake and then finish at one of the many pubs in the area for drink
S.
Nice park to hang out and Wimbledon Village is walking distance from there, so you can easily get some bites, come back to the park and have a little picnic. The park does need some looking after though, grass is overgrown. On-street parking by the park is free on weekends.
S. V.
Lovely walk with the dogs over the common. Finished off with a lovely cuppa & sandwich at the Windmill cafe
K. B.
A historical common with an extraordinary natural habitat spawning from the early 18th century.. Come and enjoy the fresh air with friends, families or just on your own!
P. P.
Great place for walks and cycling, plus relaxing with a picnic. Be aware some areas are bike free and in others dogs must be on a leash; especially on golf course areas. Suggest the Windmill Museum as start point as interesting and has good cafe attached plus car park. Most metalled paths suitable for wheelchair users though probably best for chairs with pneumatic rather than solid wheels unless happy with short distance on compacted gravel/cement.
T.
Lovely walk all seasons. Interesting Christmas addition in 2020- Hundred trees decorated
A. S.
This is a wonderful green space close to Wimbledon Village. It's close to a larger park, which is ideal for walks among the trees or just relaxing in nature. I try and visit as often as possible.
C. M.
The common has been my saviour during lockdowns, however don't forget to follow paths, mind the delicate grass cover and do not tread on the greens.
M. E.
Nice walk in nature with some ponds and lots of areas to discover with the kids or dog. Sometimes it gets buddy so always be prepared with your Wellington boots
B. T.
Nice plane for ba Walk
We found a lovely cafe in there looks like a windmill
I was very muddy on our visit
S. R.
Beautiful open field. Great for a relaxed walk, dog walking or sitting and enjoying the view. Is usually very quiet. Coffee shops and lunch available just down the road is also very convenient for a picnic.
O. P.
Lovely place, plenty space to walk and enjoy outdoor space.
As well easy access to parking space, Tea House and Wind Mill museum
t.
Nice but very muddy paths.
D. B.
Very nice on this hot bank holiday day. Lots of families walking dogs and together and cyclist enjoying the path. Dogs running in the river too! Kids had fun picking some blackberries along the route. Would reccommend it!
R.
If I could ever afford to live in one place in London, it will have to be either Richmond, Putney or Wimbledon. Because together they form such a lovely triangle of nature, well being and urban quality life that no other area in London can match.
Take this common for example. Once you're off the road and in the woods, you'll be instantly disconnected from everything. In this vast area, there is wildlife, woodland, grassland, heathland, scrubland, golf course, museum, cafe, horse riding, war memorial, ponds and its all surrounded by high end, posh, upscale residential areas.
You can have a proper forest experience here. I don't remember how many time I got lost in the woods even though it was my regular walking route.
I can go on and on write a whole book but it's very hard to list all the qualities that make it tick but in short, I love nature, peace and quiet and this place has it all.
B. H.
Wimbledon Common is great for relaxing, running, sun bathing, cycling, tree climbing and a romantic walk if you're so inclined. At the village end get a coffee and relax by the lake, at the Putney end go to the Telegraph pub.
A. J.
Beautiful walking path from Telegraph Road via underpass on A3 towards the Pond and towards the Windmill. Interesting walk eveeyday
T. G.
Over one thousand acres of green open space to enjoy quiet walks, picnics or even play golf . Park in the Windmill Car Park ( there are loos ). There are a myriad of routes from here . You can even walk to Richmond Park at the Robin Hood Gate.
Return to the car park and enjoy a good cup of tea at the Windmill cafe ( also breakfasts etc). There's also a museum in the Windmill.
K. D.
We walk 3km to get here another 3 in the park and 3 to get back. Perfect for exercising and dog walking
M. D.
This is a lovely outside area which is suitable for long walks. I love walking through the common and Putney heath with my dogs!
R. N.
Stunning park to explore on foot. Its large enough that you feel like you have left London and are undisturbed by fellow revellers. Splendor in London.
l. t.
Hug park, lovely place for walking your dog.
C. A.
Lovely place to chill out in the edge of London. Wild places & some more kept but not too much. Nature furst is at the heart of the place. Windmill & cafe both definitely worth a visit.
Lovely helpful staff too. Donation car park :) !
Thumbs up from me! :)
R. L.
Went here for a parkrun b4 the Chelsea V Totspuds game. The people were really friendly (like most parkruns of course) & I was given the course "run down" by a couple of people which prepared me(sort of, lol)!!
A good 20-30 minutes jog to the assembly point though from the nearest tube station which is Southfields!!
M. K.
My most favourite park. It is truly beautiful. Love the Windmil museum and coffee and all their activities
R. P.
I have been visiting these commons, often with dogs, often with family, often alone, for over 50 years. They are a wonderful London resource, extensive, with many different area feels, well kept and maintained, with the excellent Windmill cafe house to sit and take in refreshments. Nowadays I live in countryside and am in London less often, but 2 weeks ago I was among other guests for my daughter's picnic birthday celebration. And I was so delighted to find the commons just the same, and not crowded, which I'd thought they might be in these Covid times.
E. T.
Very lucky to have such a beautiful green and wooded area so close to London. Great for dogs.
m. h.
Improve the 🥓 sandwich with a tad more bacon and far better bread than what I was given. For £4 you would expect better. Also have sachets of sauce available. If pen ponds cafe in Richmond Park can do it so can you.
A. V.
One of the best places to run in London, make sure you bring trail shoes in the winter though
J. m.
Wonderful for a weekend stroll or daily dog walk. Wimbledon Common combines dense forest with expansive open areas along with several ponds scattered around the various paths. The golf course adds to the scenery and as this is "common" land you are allowed to walk up and down the holes providing you respect there course of play. Also keep an eye out around corners as sometimes you approach mid fairway and risk being struck! The windmill is a charming old piece of engineering that can be accessed either by foot or via Parkside. Offering limited snacks coffees and ice creams it's the perfect place to stop mid walk for a rest.
C. W.
Lovely place for a walk & some fresh air in the middle of London....didn't spot any Wombles though 😅😅
M. R.
Such a lovely place to come for walks and strolls with pets, friends, family. Natural, plenty of ducks and even frogs living freely. Great place for picnics too in summer
P. B.
Great place for walking, running, cycling. Many paths to explore and hidden memorials to find. Several large ponds with wildlife. Dogs advised to be kept on leads by these areas.
Windmill still not open but food and drinks available for take away. Toilet facilities also open.
Just a shame some people can't take their litter away with them or use the bins, or respect this space and the wildlife.
H. S.
Lovely place. Beautiful park with nice placid lake. Perfect for a stroll or bike ride.
R. V.
Quite and relaxing place to spend some time with family, friends or just by yourself. Car accessible and pet friendly place.
The windmill museum, coffee shop and restaurant around are great places to enjoy some free time at this place.
Suitable for: tourists, locals, families, all ages, cyclists and for a long walk in nature.
S. C. A.
Great outdoor space with lota5 of different landscapes. Some of the trees are ancient so feels like a forest at times.
R. C.
lots of good sticks for the dog, and a voluntary car park fee near the windmill museum
S. L.
Great place for dogs, lovely nature walk for people - you forget you're in London sometimes!
K. C.
It's amazing place you need to try !
p. c.
A great place to walk your dog or even yourself in wonderful surroundings.... and very rare to pick up any Tics to bring home...on you, or your dog, unlike Richmond Park which appears to be infested with the wee beasties! Also, Windmill Cafe is a great place for a cuppa or a full cooked breakfast!
W. B.
Great to be out in the park alot to take in, must see the windmill.
i.
I'm in love with this park..... my best walks done here.
a. S.
Lovely common to have a peaceful wander.
T. E.
Open land, woods, ponds and plenty of trails there.
Excellent common to go for walks and to explore. There is a large pond on one part of the common and a couple of hidden ponds within the main forested part.
It is normally possible to park in the car park or along nearby roads. There is a cafe at the windmill but expect a long queue there.
There is a golf course near the common.
If you’re looking for an interesting place to go for a run, walk, cycling or walk the dog then this common is highly recommended.
a. s.
A great park to walk the dog, cycle, walk with your family.
There are ponds to explore and Wimbledon village is a short walk to eat and shop.
M. A.
With living in a magic city its equally important to have beautiful green space to explore. There are many paths through various terrain and one can experience little hidden gems in both these areas. Enjoy ;-)
J. P.
Wide open spaces and dense woodland. The windmill is a landmark in case you get lost. Good café.
C. B.
Huge, wild London common. Nice Cafe by the windmill.
S. F.
Having lived in South London for over 20 years, I only recently finally made it to Wimbledon Common and I have to say it was brilliant. It's absolutely enormous, with open grassland, woods, heather and excellent trees for the kids to climb. Only downside was the car park which got busy so get there early (before 10.30am). We were there 2 hours and only saw a fraction of it so will definitely be back. It's really varied so lots to keep interest high.
S. C.
Lovely walk round the pond with the kids after a big Sunday lunch... been to the woods before which are nice also but didnt today as it was a bit wet and muddy. Bring wellies for the kids.
T. F.
Large common with both open areas and woodland. Great for a walk with or without a dog, coffee or just sitting and watching the world go by. If you go into the common you can't tell you're in London as it's so quite.
J. P.
Woodland, Heath and water in the middle of greater London. Feels like somewhere miles away, a great escape.
v. l.
Beautiful area for a walk, bike ride or picnic. Visited in the rain but still had a lovely time
P. C.
Pleasant open spaces and wooded areas mean that even when busy it's not crowded. Parking may be a problem when the weather good as there is a limited space, get there early if you plan to spend the day.
d. x.
Great outdoor space. We parked at the windmill car park and walked for an hour. We had a great lunch at the windmill café. The car park is now pay and display which is a bit of a shame.
s. d.
Less crowded than Richmond Park and all the better for it except for the lack of deer.
D. W.
Fantastic common to go for walks and to explore. There is a large pond on one part of the common and a couple of hidden ponds within the main forested part. It is normally possible to park in the car park or along nearby roads. There are loads of tracks so people are spaced out which feels COVID safe. There is a cafe at the windmill but expect a long queue there. There is a golf course that crosses the common at one point but have not seen any golfers. If you’re looking for an interesting place to go for a run or walk the dog then this common is highly recommended.
J. C.
A clean and fresh environment. Such a joy to walk here everyday. Totally recommended for people with well behaved dogs.. So much to see... Baby swans at the moment...
M. S.
Wimbledon Common is lovely. Or mostly lovely anyway. Huge rambling area full of good walking paths through beautiful woodland and open areas, and its pretty varied. You can walk for hours if you want to. There are some ponds, waterfowl and all. You may suddenly find yourself on a golf course, which is not a plus in my book, and it can get a bit busy, but generally it's a great place to go for a walk.
A. L.
Always a lovely walk! You can forget momentarily that you live in London and that you are actually surrounded by main roads.
D. F.
Amazing
S. P.
Nice woodland, lovely park for walking. Free parking on Sundays in the surronding streets.
After the walk you can stroll to the main road and every Sundays summer time they have nice street market.
R. J.
Wonderful Wimbledon Common...so peaceful, lots of horseriders out today ....great cafe at the windmill. Saw a women voluntarily picking up rubbish on her daily walk, don't drop your litter peoples, take it home with you.
J. H.
Clean, green and beautiful 🌹.
B. W.
Love the common! Gorgeous woodlands and meadows to walk, ride, bike, or stroll along. Absolutely beautiful and serene.
A. E.
Me and my partner love this park, it is the best place to walk and relax.
U. K.
Lovely extension of wimbledon village common. Vast and plenty of parking. Lots of little spaces for picnics and space for a good long walk. Great place to meet friends and take family
C. W.
Delightful natural scenery, doesn't feel like you're in London at all (faint noise of the main road but if you're a local you can generally block it out). Great for walks, cycles and outdoor covid meets!
N. K. (.
This is a great place for a walk, the common is popular for all people including dog walkers, dog walks need to keep their dogs on a lead or close to their owners as there have been number of pet thefts in the area.
Follow me for more reviews and tips.
A. M.
Lots to explore here - ponds and heathland, woodland and scrub. Plus a windmill and a cafe. As a cyclist I wish there were more routes - the horses get a better deal - but still some decent cycle paths.
P. B.
Filled with animals, beautiful views, cafes and endless places to sit down and just enjoy the view. I come here almost daily for a morning walk and I can’t get bored with it. A truly beautiful park
K. B. L.
Walking through the common at a leisurely pace is the best way to appreciate this common as there's greenery all around but ample space to be inspired by nature.
When old buildings are renovated, the changes seen can be remarkable but sometimes disappointing because they don't reflect the beauty of the previous structure. Nature can affect us differently.

Great place for sports and recreation. Great place for quiet walks in the evenings too. Quiet and safe place. No nuisance.
R. C.
Lovely small Forest and Park Area with Windmill Museum and Cafe with clean Toilets near Cafe ,go early to find parking Space
M. F.
Lovely bit of greenery in the city. Great cafe too
C. J.
The park seems beautiful, but could use an update. Add a runing track, beutify it a litte more. Lots of dog owners seem to go here due to how open it is. There is a small pond here. Found it useful to meet a nice little stroll and to sit on a bench, not sure if it would high on the list of places to recommend for a family picnic.
S. T.
Brilliant place for a nice walk
C. O.
Lovely area to walk and run with the dog. Very forested area in South London and beautiful park to explore. Dogs love it here.
D. C.
A great outdoor space close to the city! Just keep to main paths as far as possible, going off the beaten track tends to get fairly muddy and marshy.
N. B.
Great location for a walk, bit muddy in the autumn.
5. m. o. p. L. T.
Really nice, actually beautiful. Only not safe in the evening
T. T.
A very nice park for walking and cycling. I was surprised to see people can walk all alongside the golf course, I've never seen that before!
It has beautiful nature, somewhat clear signage and a nice road.
Giving 4 stars as I have a mountain bike and I am fine cycling here, but on a road bike I've heard people say it can be very slippery as there is no cement/gravel anywhere, so if it rained a bit, it can get quite tricky to manouver. Just something to be aware of if you are cycling!
D. B. (.
Great wild space to lose yourself and truly relax. Can forget you’re still in London and not way out in the country.
V. A.
Great walking and Snacks at The Windmill famous as the place where Robert Baden-Powell wrote part of his book "Scouting for Boys" ! Also be to WC Golf Club .
A. B.
A bit of countryside in London, absolutely beautiful, love it here
R. M.
It's beautiful. It's a place for walk and Compartir with your family and friends
J.
Beautiful place , fantastic scenery ..looking forward to next visit. Perfect for strolling through with family and friends, enjoy a drink or ice cream from the local businesses too.
D. C.
Very nice on a Sunday And dinner in the ivy was amazing
J. A. O.
Huge space allowing for beautiful walks and picnics... Always feels like there is a new path to explore. Family friendly.

We parked on The Causeway, which is free on weekends. The main Windmill Ride is all weather and suitable for cyclists. The other main rides are currently quite boggy, and the wooded areas very wet. Note no cycling except on Windmill Ride.
L. P.
Same thing as Richmond Park, if you close your eyes, you are bot in London. You don't hear car noises, just enjoy the sound of silence and nature.
Hiking here is an healing thing for me.
M. S.
I like to think I am in a forest. It’s such an amazing park
M. M.
How privileged are we south londonderry to have wimbledon common in our doorstep. Its a joy. You can walk for miles enjoying all the different paths . And start or finish at the Windmill cafe. A treat
A. H.
Didn't realise there was so much green space in London.
O. P.
A regular walking spot for us, the children and dog. Some fabulous trails that are good fun to explore, the common is always clean and rubbish free and for the most part people are good at picking up dog mess. The only minor frustration is it can get very busy with the car park absolutely packed with big cues at peak times.
G. G.
It is great place to relax, take a walk or go jogging.
If you have kids you should take them her, they will love it.
h. m.
Beautiful dog walk...had a cheeky takeaway glass of wine at cannizaro house en route too. Gardens in flower- lovely.
C. B.
It's home!!!! I love it!!!! Such a beautiful part of London xxx
T. B.
Lovely walks and autumn leaves. Cafe and toilets.
N. A.
Great green space to explore. A real tonic if you’re sick of the day to day urban experience of city living.
Soothes the mind.
A. R.
Perfect place for city trails ;)
A. P.
Lovely walks around the common.
j. w.
Nice space but slightly overrun with dog walkers.
A. A.
It is an incredibly beautiful place to unwind, enjoy an evening wonderful walk, meditate and appreciate what nature can provide.
D. A.
Lovely little walk for you and your pet dog. Or for a picnic. Nice water feature .
R. B.
Lovely woodland walk with forest-y dens and secret paths. No Gruffalos that we could find.
m. c.
As with every common I suppose, great place for a walk or run. Lots of wildlife and Wimbledon common has a lovely tea room, not too sure about Putney.
S. F.
Great for my dog who loves his walks here ,it's like being in the countryside only five minutes drive from home here in Battersea ,so many interesting and different terrains and he loves to go swimming in the lakes ,we had a really great day out today blessed with unbroken sunshine and nice people all around us ,even saw two big white police horses enjoying a nice walk down by the lake, hope we get some more nice weather soon so we can enjoy this beautiful place again soon,
m. m.
Incredibly beautiful view, open plain, lake. You can have a wonderful picnic here or walking or just meditate
D. M.
Brilliant, really woody, unlike Richmond Park and Bushy Park
G. L.
Very lovely place that always brings back great memories.
J. G.
If you ever come to Wimbledon, you must check this park out. There are many fond memories I hold of this place. It is very nice for general walks and exploration. Sometimes you will see many butterflies in the area during Summer/Autumn period.
P. G.
Stunning and lush this time of year. The birds are singing and the air is fresh. A great place for revitalising walks, runs and family time
J. S.
Very popular for walking, cycling, and horse 🐎 riding. however the paths could be better maintained, it's always very muddy in winter, and not up to the same standard as Richmond park.
A. P.
Nice green and open area, watch out for the golfers but never seemed to cross paths. Shame so many paths don't allow cycling though.
N. S.
A fantastic city resource. Great for dog walking, cycling (on marked paths only), bird watching, trail exploring, with an interesting history, and a historic windmill/museum.
B. R. B.
Amazing place for walks and jogs. I myself couldn't imagine such an incredibly serene and natural setting inside the city of London. Ponds, rivers tracks and streams. A must if your in the area and wanna go for a walk or jog.
J. K.
Spacious, plenty of walk with the family or dogs.
B. J.
This park is one of my favourites. It's really wide, massive, and trees make it crowded. In this park it is so easy to lose time walking or reading a book. It's easy to avoid people. There are beautiful benches by the lake. you feel like in a village. you can feel wild and free. But when it's hot, just pop in to the WindMill cafe, they serve cold drinks, coffee, homemade icecream!
F.
Great walk in various terrain, lovely down by the lake. Although car park very full still could walk in quiet places away from any crowds.
V. S.
Went horse riding on the common. Very pleasant.
K. C.
I’ve lived nearby for five years this is the place where my mind and body can rest. There is also a nice running route, you can also be adventurous by going off the beaten path as well, I never get bored while running in this wonderful place.
W. C.
Love this place. The Windmill Cafe is excellent and their are route for everyone. Runners doing 5 or 10kms, kids on bikes, people picnicking, tree climbers, dog walkers and adult BMXers all have a place on this common. Top place.
M. C.
Lovely walks
J. C. G.
Absolutely wonderful place to spend a couple of hours
F. G.
Well kept Common. Can get busy at times. Especially during lockdown restrictions. Very dog friendly. Local pubs and cafes nearby. Would recommend
j.
Nice place for walking, running or meeting a someone.
J. B.
Great place for an woody walk with the kids - muddy paths, duck ponds, ditches, logs, dens in the woods, trees to climb, field to run about in - perfect bit of nature in south London. Also connects nicely through to Richmond Park. Dogs are often let off lead here, so you have to be a bit aware if you're child/you is nervous of them.
M. G.
Great natural reserve, you really feel like you run out from the city
W. S.
This place is amazing! There is plenty of benches to sit on to enjoy the scenery. However, it can be difficult to get to on foot so make sure you have your phone and Google maps at the ready!
A. M.
Always great for a relaxing and attractive walk. Varied scenery, beautiful trees, ponds and open spaces.
B. L.
For me it’s a playground for photography 💯
I. O.
Wonderful walk in all weathers. The trees are looking beautiful and give shelter from even heaviest rain. Wellies needed now though .... autumn mud!
M. O.
Beautiful place
green and always lively
if you aware you can spot magical clouds there
S. C.
Just stunning. What an extraordinarily amazing place. I cannot begin to recommend this place enough. Seriously, it's a true joy to be there, in every sense.
You might be thinking "sure, but in what ways is this place so great?". Well, don't worry because I'll tell you the top three reasons:
1. They have arranged the trees in such a way that when viewed from above they spell out the words to the national anthem. Get your drone up there and check for yourself.
2. If you see somebody wearing a red top and carrying a golf bag, they are obliged to give you directions and recommend places of interest on the common.
3. I don't know how they did it, but all of the horses on the common can speak at least four languages.
A. S.
Perfect place to have any outdoor activity
H. B.
Beautiful outdoor space to run, walk, enjoy the local pubs/cafe's, walk the dogs, see ducks, herons, horses out for exercise.
You can walk all the way through and cross to Richmond Park. Beautifully clean and lots of tracks to explore!
B. T.
Nice for walking but definitely do not recommend bringing your car to park. I had to circle the car park along with 20 other cars searching for a spot only to leave the park and drive all the way to richmond since I couldn't get a spot.
L. T.
Lovely but to busy
J. M.
Really large common with a great mix of wooded and open areas. If you're dog likes a swim I'd definitely recommend!
N. J. P.
Lovely place. Attended the GGGW (Great Global Greyhound Walk).
s. m.
Played around here as a kid. The Windmill didn't work and there were no sails. All jazzed up for the bourgousie of Wimbledon with Mr Whippy ice cream at £3.50 each. Not as I remembered it. However, 60 plus years is a long time.
D. K.
A brilliant park, full of free space and fresh air. There are plenty of paths and routes one could take. The common has many ponds and woodlands areas. Suitable for everyone
L. S.
Lovely place to visit, common, restaurant and carpark facilitates particularly for disabled parking
U. G.
Pretty woodland walk good for a post lunch gentle walk, if you are in the area.
M. O.
This is a very special place in London. One of the few spots where you can genuinely lose yourself in sprawling woodland, discovering any number of winding paths that can lead you somewhere magical. An absolute must for anyone who loves to walk in nature but who struggles to find the time to leave the big smoke.
J. P.
A little gem hidden between the Putney and Wimbledon. Has a little lake, golf course, cafe and vintage windmill. So much space and loads of little trails to walk around. Little taste of the countryside in London! Would recommend to anyone in the area for a relaxing walk.
N. P.
I love the common. A haven of countryside in the midst of London. Great trees to climb, places for picnics, a multitude of routes both in the woods and on paths. Den building is great with kids, as well as discovering secret ponds amongst the trees. Very picturesque. Cheering bird life too. The windmill and tea room complement the more wild nature of the common. Note that paths do get muddy so appropriate footwear recommended.
And dont forget there is a free 5k park run from the windmill every Saturday morning at 9am. Flat but lovely running through the trees.
T. L.
Very nice for walking. The kids really enjoyed climbing the trees, going up and down the hill and walking in the mud.
G.
I have lived in Southfields for 10 years and went to the commons last weekend for the first time. What an amazing place. I can't believe there is a Forrest like that on my doorstep. Will be going there again soon
T. M.
We're Journey and walking around onto courses golf on ground. We're enjoying.
Z. E.
A lovely outdoor green space close to central London. Great place to walk your dogs or take your family. There is a tea rooms which sells hot and cold food and a windmill (that you can go in) However there are two golf courses on sight so you need to be aware of flying balls. I would definitely chose this over Richmond Park or any of the London Parks.
J. C.
Beautiful surroundings
Windmill cafe very good.
s. k.
Wonderful place to wander and enjoy the peace and quiet
S. G.
Always a pleasant place to jog ru or just whilw your time away..
R. G.
Insanely muddy, very busy, with badly maintained ponds and walkways. I don’t understand how it can be left to feel so uncared for - when there is so much more that could be done, in such a lovely area.
L. V.
I definitely recommend a walk through the common and Cannizaro Park during the Spring or Summer. Such a beautiful location. The park is full of the most exquisite fauna and flora you can imagine, so make sure to take a good camera! Also wear footwear suitable for the outdoors, as there can be mud and dried leaves around. Well worth a visit! And oh - the park is free! Wimbledon Common consists of forests and grass lands. It stretches miles and miles in circumference and has so many different places to explore including two golf courses.
g. l.
Post Christmas walk. Very muddy, needed wellies
N. E. Y.
It's a lively place to spend a day, having both wooded areas and grass patches. Great for playing ball, walking jogging, cycling!
D. S.
Nice peaceful beautiful space
M. D.
Great and amazing quite park.
G.
This is an immense beautiful park in South West London surrounded by Wimbledon, Putney and Kingston- upon- Thames.
The Commons are made up of woodland, scrubland, playing fields, recreation areas and nine pounds.
Great place to walk your dogs or just enjoy a day out with your kids. You can also cycling or just walking and discover new places.
I recommend to visit Windmill ,which was built on the common in 1817 and has been converted into a museum which traces the history of the building through a display of paintings, scale models, machines. Then relax at the Windmill Tearooms and enjoy both inside and out to have a drink/meal afterwards.
I also suggest to have a walk to Casear' s Well named after Caesar, is believed to date back to Neolithic times. It sadly dried up in the early 20th centuary, however, a boring was made slightly downhill, so the spring water now flows out of a standpipe and into a large cistern.
Unfortunately, possibly due to low water pressure, the spring is no longer continuous; it dries up during the Summer until mid/late Autumn (from about June until October).
The Commons is always clean and nice places to visit and enjoy the peace and quiet.
V. V. V. P. R. A.
Lovely spot. Easy to get lost into the many path and enjoy the walks. Great if you have a dog. Windmill area could definitely be improved for a nicer brunch / lunch family experience.
S. S.
Unexpected and beautiful wild place in the inner London suburbs. Great for walks, running or a bike ride going on to Richmond Park. You can also load your car up here with cut up logs from the trees on the common for wood burning stoves etc at very reasonable price.
E. D.
Amazing park and amazing park run!!
M. F.
Nice place for a walk at any time just wish some dog walkers would pick up there dogs poo. And no more then two dogs per person when some adults or children see a walk with a pack of dogs it can be frightening for them there should be signs on common to state this or park rangers should tell the walkers
J. S.
Long ride away for myself but amazing nature and you'll be surprised you are still in London. Not as pretty as Richmond Park but they are basically next to each other
g. l.
👏
C. O.
Vast open spaces and wooded areas. Great for picnics, long walks and dog walking. Various ponds with beautiful wildfowl, 5km ParkRun on Sat mornings, cafe, horse stables, and the old windmill. Easy access by bus and parking facilities.
C. C.
Lovely park but trails not well signboarded
A. h.
Lovely sat at the windmill cafe having an ice cream, watching the world go by.
W. G.
I love this place, spent many many years playing on the common while growing up. Has become very busy compared to 'the good old days' with dog walkers, joggers etc.... but still quite easy to get lost on your own in one of the many different landscapes. I'd recommend grabbing a pint at the Fox and Grapes and taking it out to the green on the warmer evenings.
D. W.
A beautiful park with lots of lovely areas to explore. Great for dogs and picnics. Great open areas and magical wooded areas. Has a horse riding track and lots of places to sit and rest.
S. W.
Wonderful to have nature so close ! Great Windmill tea rooms !
R. H.
Great afternoon walking around the common. Quite busy with people compared to last month. Plenty of space to social distance though.
J. U.
A London treasure. Just rediscovered this wkd.... after a 15 year gap!
J. F. S.
Amazing place for nature lovers.
M. C.
A huge park to get lost in, so good for an afternoon stroll. A nice cafe although the good looking cakes were rather dry, which was disappointing. Lots of other food however. A windmill to explore and free parking!!
J. T.
A lovely large wood with 2 lakes and remains of a pond. Lots of wildlife to see, plenty of walks. Not well sign posted and some areas border the A3 which is noisy. Well worth a visit.
H. B.
A lovely humble tea room with a great selection of cakes and goodies to eat. We have had countless ice creams here over summers. Love Wimbledon Common for a walk and run around with the kids. So many paths to explore
V. S.
Standard park with lots of space for everyone ☺️
S. W.
Large area of open space, woods, ponds and streams. Good for walking, jogging, golf, horse-riding, nature-watching, whatever. Varied walks, though sometimes muddy. Good café at the Windmill. Assuming space in the car park, which can fill up quickly especially at weekends.
J.
Beautiful, tranquil and amazingly only 5 miles from Central London
Q. A.
A park that has many memories of 3 generations for me. The lake is a flash of some of those memories. Regardless, even if I never had no familiarity with the park, it is a great place to relax with family and children and an example of London's typical beautiful parks
M. C.
One of the best places in London to get out for nature. Many ponds and lakes, open fields and golf course. Pretty big so nice with the bicycle or for a longer walk. Also has spring water running in the rainy season. Definitely recommend
P. H.
Beautiful wood and grass common land.
The pursuit of natural at all costs is to the detriment of visitors enjoyment.
There are very few developed facilities throughout the common for eating & drinking, exercise or children's play.
I. W.
Surprisingly clean and tidy. No Litter! I didn't expect to see the area so clean. Looking forwards to exploring more of the area.
J. H.
Lovely efficient tea rooms. Plenty of room to sit outside. Always busy with families, dog walkers. Toilets and voluntary donation for car park. Food reasonable price for Wimbledon common. Wide range. Ice cream available in summer.
N. H.
Great peaceful green space in London. A lovely place for a walk
C. H.
Lovely walk back to green man pub before hitting the main road into putney . Was just lucky to pick the right paths. Not too muddy. Other people out walking with children and dogs. Felt safe.
A. N.
Went one Saturday morning to run the Wimbledon parkrun. If you get there before 8.30 you'll have no problem parking in main car park. It's very busy after. I think the sun bought people out as well as the windmill cafe, which is overpriced in my opinion. It's a massive park to explore and plenty to discover for both human and canine.
L. h.
Lovely quite wild Common in zone 3 of London, adjacent to Richmond Park. Paths are not paved but clear and easy to walk along. There are wooded areas, glades and ponds. There is also a tea rooms and cafe called the windmill. It's really large and although lots of people go it never feels busy.
D. W.
Great place to walk and get lost
v.
Great place for a picnic with kids or a bike break while on a bike tour .
S. B.
Still one of my favorite places in London. A perfect place to escape for a bit for a walk, run or ride.
G. W.
Great open space with lakes and pleasant walks. Good free parking.
C. M.
Lovely. Feels like you're in the countryside. Kids find it magical. Great for dogs too but please look out for signs when they need to be kept on a lead!
B. S.
A wooded expanse of heathland with beautiful silver birches and many old decidous trees. Three or more lakes and many many paths to wander. Some open to cyclists others to horse riders. Truly a breath of fresh air on a Sunday or any other day.
P. H.
Love Wimbledon Common. Would be a five star but it is a victim of it's own popularity. Sooooo busy.!!!
I. G.
Amazing park.
B. M.
There's plenty to see here, including a windmill museum. I recommend exploring Wimbledon village and taking a detour onto the common for a nice walk. There are lots of trees so it can be a bit more sheltered than Richmond or Bushy park.
G. C.
Open grassland, ponds and wooded walks, so much rural to see, so close to London's west end. Parking in certain areas, public transport/busses pass by. Early Autumn colours are stunning. Beware of the Golf course/balls. Wimbledon for a day trip. After a quick bite at a local I walked over to the commons. It had rained quite a bit earlier
A. A.
Good for trail walks, not the most picturesque of places
J. V.
Quiet and peaceful. The dog loves to explore and the path to the windmill is mobility scooter friendly so partner can enjoy dod walks too.
S. S. N.
Nature and gardens and beautiful landscapes.
H. T.
Great place for sunny day
C. G.
Very large open area, not too far from central London and an easy walk from the nearby tube stops. There's some lovely wooded areas, open fields and bodies of water, a nice place to take a walk and relax. There is a golf course that covers part of it though so be wary of low flying, high speed golfballs
G. B.
Nice for a day out to get your kids in touch with nature. Lots of trails and trees to climb. There's a lake by the Windmill where you can see dragonflies. Full of life on a Sunday with horses and lots of families. You can also get lost in the woods and build a camp. Wouldn't recommend it for very young children though as the paths are not very buggy friendly. Great for bikes!
G.
One of the biggest green areas in London. Connected to Putney on one side and Richmond Park on the other. You can walk miles and miles whole day long. It's really huge!
S. R.
Great place to go walking. Lots of benches if you need a sit down and plenty of wooded areas if you need some shade.
R. I.
Home of the Wombles, a great park for leisure activities, picnics, running, walking, taking the dog for a walk or even having a coffee at the windmill cafe.
There are ponds, open green areas, wooded areas and plenty of wildlife.
It's a short distance from the high street, where there are plenty of places to eat and drink or you can pop into the crooked billet or hand in hand pubs for a quick pint and some food. These two pubs were part of Oliver Reed's legendary Wimbledon run.
Another nice place to visit, next to the common is Cannizaro park, another nice place for a family picnic.
M. S.
Very nice place to relax and workout
A. B.
Great place, especially on a fine sunny day
N. T.
A fine open space, to get fresh air to relax in peace. Or even not to relax. It's large enough not to feel overwhelmed or overcrowded however many people decide to join you on your outings.
W. L.
First time here. Peaceful. Lots of benches. Cafe available. Nice walks.
S. N.
I really enjoyed walking through Wimbledon common. It is pretty natural looking with paths cutting through the forest and bushes. I would suggest taking a bus there as there is one that stops on the one side. We walked, and Wimbledon is a hilly place
H. H.
Lovely place for a walk. So natural and picturesque, you wouldn't think you were in London. Some pretty ponds and even a museum.
B. D.
Huge common, miles of nice open space. A few pubs on the edge,s . A windmill which you can go in, with a good cafe. Also a pay to play 18 hole golf course
J. P.
Great place to walk with Bowie our dog. Can be a bit muddy, so put on the correct foot wear
S. L.
The common of Wimbledon is definitely one of my favourite parks of London!
A place for everyone where the peacefulness is the main feature, where you can meditate, where you can explore, where you can have workout, where you can walk your dog or pony, where you can ride horses and where you can olay golf.
All these listed thing are possible and faesible because the informal recreation, and for the preservation of natural flora and fauna of this amazing common/heathland.
I highly recommend you to explore this amazing area full of hidden gems and big surprises with the "Secrets of Wimbledon Walking Tour".
B. O.
Peaceful and serene to walk down here. Be mindful of the fact that you may have to walk some distance before you get to a bench/sitting area where you can sit to have lunch or just relax from your walk.
A. K.
The world famous Wimbledon Common. Home of the Wombles.
I've spent much of my time here. Nice wide open space. Horse trail. Next to large forest area. This common is perfect for picnics and strolls.
T. M.
Beautifully kept community space
C. I.
Nice place for a family nature walk, Coots, Moorhens and Swans on the pond.
Z. E.
Our weekly walking destination. We love being hugged by many trees down in the forezty area more than open spaces... Also the the cafe At Windmill has nice treats..
T. H.
Love every inch in Wimbledon Common - such a beautiful open space with a cute lake
perfect for sports, families and pets! Even enjoy my alone time there.
D. J.
Lovely place to walk, great for dog walking, cycling and horse riding.
Although we searched high and low, we didn't see one Womble. I guess they're most active at dawn and dusk because the common was relatively litter free.
We did see a Hornets nest though, which was a great find.
T. D.
Excellent! Enjoyed the walks. Great lunch outside at the Windmill.
T. S.
Lovely place for a relaxing stroll and picnic. Feels a world away from the city and not too crowded despite coronavirus making parks even busier than usual
D. H.
Huge green area of managed grasslands, scrub, woodland and ponds (about 1,000 acres). Patrolled by rangers on foot and mounted. Part of the common is devoted to an unenclosed golf course. This time of year (late April) trees coming into leaf and flower. Windmill museum. Pleasant café serving simple hot and cold food. Large car park with toilets. Popular with dog walkers.
S. T.
Beautiful park for your daily stroll
I. K.
It was excellent.Restaurant has good Buzz.
L. B.
Good area for dog walking and generally escaping the rat race for a couple of hours. No hills to climb so easy to navigate across the common.
B. C.
This part of "our" common is nice and "urban wild". Not ruined by the nouveau rich parasites on society and the golfing salesman like the south of the common who see every open space as a green or fairway they want control of. You can't even park there to enjoy it now, residents only. Shameful corrupt council taking the rich residents money to deny us our public common.
M. M.
A good large space to get out into and walk. It is walkable from Putney. Paths can be a bit muddy at this time of year, but it's just nice to get away from built up areas.
H. z. C.
Love Wimbledon Common. The windmill cafe a great place for take away. Food excellent.
I. S.
Always love this place, my favourite #peaceful#river#walks. Highly recommended. It makes you feel like your not even in London!! ♥️ Great place for the dogs too ♥️
D. H.
Great place for walking. Parking is limited. There's a good cafe too for refreshment and dog water available too. Parking is a donation.
D. M.
One of my fav parks. :) Has limited spaces to park but you can explore it walking, trekking, cycling, skating, running.... Great to have a relax time for your self or contemplate the Earth!
L. G.
Gorgeous long walk from Capone to wimbledon village past the lakes. Lovely stretch of green and beautiful houses.
R. M.
Nice large area of countryside no doubt about it.
BUT.
Over dog pooped on and off paths and not sure what one can do about that behaviour as many are trying to reduce plastic bag use.
D.
You could honestly walk for hours the place is huge. Loads of little hidden spots to chill out & catch some sun.
M. S.
A vast green area to explore.
A. H.
Huge scope for exercise with plantations for flora and deer for fauna to see
O. W.
Lovely nature place. The food at the windmill is as great as well.
A. G.
It was lovely to get away from madness and noise of Brixton and the surrounding areas. Good to see people observing social distancing and chilling in the sun without anti social behaviour. A pleasure to be there!
A. S.
Rooms are quite basic with nothing much in the room apart from the bed and could clearly hear the couple next door having a good (short) time. However, rooms are clean and tidy and good value, plus if you want a hotel in this area...
P. C.
Love the common, when fit in '70s ran there regularly and also rode out from Wimbledon village stables for a while. Now under instruction from doc to walk 10000 steps a day I am renewing my acquaintance with the common. Should get a dog really.
B. P.
Great for woodland walks and wildlife spotting. There is a lovely teashop in the centre and some great pubs in Wimbledon village.
H. H.
Best place to walk dogs in south London! Love all the different parts of the common especially the wooded area, really feels like you could be in the countryside and not in London.
J. H.
Although it was cold and frosty the common was beautiful in the sunshine.
K. C.
It is an amazing place to walk around . Recommend in the spring and summer time.
The park always packed of people .
H. R.
Wombles of wimbledon gang 4 life
H. T.
It's easy to forget that I live in London when a fantastic open space like this is on my doorstep.
m. m.
Always good especially in the snow
T. M.
I was going to add a pic of tadpoles but stupid machine , had really nice walk, still muddy in place s, dog walkers can be a bit annoying when they have lots! Dogs are all lovely though 👹 wish they would"t leave pool bags hanging on trees, worse down bye the Brooke. Cafe at the Windmill does a decent tea, coffee & cooked food.. Canezano park is just along the road, good Rodade drums now. Dogs only on lead. Good grub pubs locally
J. M.
This natural open woodland so close to London provides the perfect balance of rural freedom and urban opportunity and convenience. There can be no better place to spend a life
k. S.
Always a good experience to go to the common.
Always tidy
s.
Lovely place for a walk. Pick your route and stroll through tree lined pathways and walkways. Ideal for Blackberry picking and Sweet Chesnuts when the season is right. There are two public golf courses that share the common, ensures open areas are well maintained and accessible. You often find the odd lost golf ball deep in the brambles and wooded areas which seems to keep the children entertained and the golf bag stocked with balls. Just be sure not to stray onto fairways or pick them up without checking for the Red Jumpered Golfers first. Best to go after 1pm on a Sunday when the golf course is closed. The Windmill car park can get busy so often better to find a space near the Hand in Hand pub or the Fox and Grapes on Camp Road. Both pubs offer fantastic Roast Dinners and English ales, you will need to book however.
S. G.
Lovely park with long trail paths and a little lake in the middle. Sadly most of the space is taken up for golf but otherwise a welcome bit of peace in the busy Capital.
-.
Lovely place for a lovely stroll. Watch out for the golf balls that ultimately will fracture your skull, you have been warned.
Please note that you can reach the place by public transport, leave your car at home.
E. D.
One of the best places to have a nice bike ride with friends. You can social distance!
K. C.
Love it, do parkrun her every Saturday and then the café after. The common gives the chance for many activities, running/walking/making snowmen and others. It's a great place to relax.
J. W.
Excellent park for the kiddos+dogs. Good carpark near the Windmill. There's also a decent café with toilets attached. Well marked footpaths
C. C.
Amazing place for a walk, picnic, gathering and if you don't mind public drinking - the occasional teenage/young adult piss up. Many beautiful memories have been created on Wimbledon common. The forrest area supplies you with majestic, tranquil, natural scenery that takes your breath away. It is also a great place to take copious amounts of psychotropic substances and trip the f**k out.
D. B. F.
Beautiful common wonderful cafe affordable prices friendly staff perfect for a family day out 👌😀
M. R.
Great produce, friendly stall holders covid secure 1 way system people checking that masks were worn to protect one and all.
H. M.
Lovely but very busy. Pick weekdays and start and end of day for quieter experience

I took my two granddaughters up to Wimbledon Common today at about 11 am. We started with an ice cream from the cafe, then walked down to the pond, sat on a seat watching the duck & swans. After a game of Simon say's (where we couldn't stop laughing) we took a walk back up the hill were the girls were climbing, playing in the log built play dens. We decided to have lunch in the cafe (which we all enjoyed) then sat on a bench where the girls played in sand ditch (not sure what else to call it) for quite some time. At 4.30p.m. I suggested we start our journey home, but both girls were having so much fun neither wanted to leave. We finally got home, a little dusty, dirty & quite tired at 5.40, but we all had a very enjoyable day without spending loads of money. Hopefully early night for us all after all that fresh air.

Loved it it was like a forest and only a few minutes from my uni!! Nice place to walk and think!

You would not know that you are in London, Best wooded walks, bird life even a lake. The car park has a great little coffee shop that serves an honest English breakfast. Love the common!!

Any Londoner will say that there's always somewhere in London you've never been. Until today, that was Wimbledon Common. We walked through Wimbledon village on the way up and returned on the 93 bus to Wimbledon station. The Common is a mixture of grassland, woodland and heath. I'm a birder and enjoying spotting Warblers, cunningly concealed in Spring foliage. We went to the Windmill museum, an interesting small museum, with an insight into the history and design of mills across the UK. Wombles? We didn't see any, apart from a few furry ones in the Windmill shop. There's a decent café at the back of the windmill, with toilets and a car park. Well worth the visit. I would enjoy coming back here when it's quiet, for a closer look at the wildlife. Hmm, now where are those Wombles?
P. C.
Lovely place for a walk in spring. Perfect place to take you dog for a walk. Can be a nuisance close to the windmill carpark due to golfers taking over the grass areas and dog walking companies taking over the carpark.
S.
Beautiful, never gets old. A forest and adventure close to shops and transport? What's there not to like?!
D. f.
Lovely place to walk your dog, and/or to lay down a have a chat with your friends
l.
Massive lovely park with lots of space to distance, different views for walks, the lake or massive common park area for picnics.
C. L.
Huge iconic park, home of the Wombles. You can get wonderfully lost in here. I went for a short run once and ended up near Richmond. I could barely walk by the time I got home. Can get quite busy on the weekend. Usually has interesting local events over the summer. The Windmill Café is a must.

Such a great park for a nice Sunday stroll

A wonderful place to relax and work out. A beautiful park
K. C.

Lovely outdoor cafe.. great service
A. T.
One of my favourite dog walking places in London. The windmill cafe.offers a good range of food or just a quick snack.
T. J.
a lovely open space to walk, or sit relax and enjoy a picnic! There are usually a couple of ice creams vans nearby for when the weather is nice and the 93 bus stop is close by to take you into Wimbledon if needs be.
L. D.
my family home where I grew up and before my parents sold their home is literally a 10 min walk from Wimbledon Common. I love this place :)
N. P.
Great walk with people or with your pets
R. T.
Varied walks across mix of terrain: woods, open ground, interspersed with ponds or small lakes. A favourite with families, cyclists and joggers as well as a hunting ground for the occasional kestrel, hobby and peregrine falcon.
W. C.
Amazing space, from open grass to hidden woods. The windmill cafe is great as a fuel stop - gets super busy on a Sunday morning in good weather!
F. B.
Really lovely, great for long walks with the dogs. Beware of horses though. Altogether great way to get away from the city.
K. B.
Amazing. I had forgotten how beautiful Wimbledon common is. You could be in the middle of the country.
A. P.
This is an excellent place to visit with great knowledgeable staff on hand to help make the visit a great experience. I will hopefully be returning again and again.
D. M.
Great for a hike.
D. C.
Rambling through the woods in Wimbledon Common it's a wonderful experience and it is so exciting to see so many people out with their wellies on on a overcast day enjoying this grade experience it can get crowded but that is good having open space and people walking and talking in playing with the kids and the dogs is a very good experience and this is quintessential British so get your boots on and garden have a lovely time in Wimbledon Common
D. G.
Lovely indeed, &, a great forest to also explore!
Open, relaxed, very "country" in feel.
j. c.
Wonderful open space. Excellent for dog walks, golf, horse riding and generally being active in the open air. Open 24/7 365 days
A. N.
My favourite common. Plenty of space and a diverse amount of flora. Stretching from woodlands on one side to grassland on the other with birch forests between. Love it
A. X.
The great outdoors without leaving London. Lots of trails to wander along through wooded areas and the historic Windmill with café for refreshments to keep your energy levels up.
D. D.
I do enjoy the commons and it's open spaces. A idyllic location to come snort a few grams while walking some dogs.
The dogs seem to enjoy the walk.
The bastard horse riders gettin in the way 😂
The golfers are a easy target as the balls they hit I send the dogs to retrieve
I have a bussiness robbing a lot of people who make use of the common area.
If ya want to join us for a swift line or 2. 💨💨
Find my vans in the Windmill carpark.
B. E.
Great for long walks with kids and dogs. Lots of animal life to see. There is also a golf course for anyone whos interested
M. N.
Local park and woodland with easy access via buses. Perfect with lots of secret little spots for picnic, social, quiet time, meditation, pagan ceremony.

A nice open space. Great place to take the kids to run around and have fun. Near to Wimbledon village for all shopping and drinking/dining options 🙂

Wimbledon common is a lovely spot, no doubt about it, it is one of the few commons in london which actually gets tended to by large landscapers and groundskeepers, as a result of the popularity surrounding it during the time of the tennis tournament nearby.
The common spans wide across wimbledon, through putney and near to richmond. It’s fantastic for cycling , walking , generally relaxing and picnics, with vast amounts of unique and sheltered hideaways. The part which is mainly associated as being wimbledon common is arguably the area featuring rushmere pond that is very popular especially on the weekends. As a result of this it can get a bit rowdy in the late evenings with groups of teens gathering to meet and late night drinks happening with young adults.
However do not let this rule out the common as generally it is great
p.
Come and see if you can spot a womble. Great common so close to London, cafe and windmill in centre. Not good for cyclists, much better for walkers
J. J. R.
Gorgeous in the sun, it’s like being in the countryside in London!
A. S.
Great space for a walk and some relaxing time, easy to get to, parking can be an issue at busy times.
F. J. P.
A lovely walk, run, bike ride, or if you are fortunate a good horse ride. Good for bird watching. Nice bit of history to the common.
E. C.
Had no idea there was such a mature, extensive wood near us - huge, shady trees, ponds, hidden golf tracks and lots of beautiful lanes and secret paths.
S. G.
Beautiful location with long walks for your dog, nice café and museum and a great place to bring family for picnics
M. W.
I count myself extremely lucky to be living within walking distance of Wimbledon Common. It is a great place to go for a walk, sometimes long, sometimes short, exploring the less-well-trodden paths, and listening to birds chirping.
G. M.
I love London's commons - wide open spaces with woods, ponds, and grassland in the middle of the city. Wimbledon Common is one of the best and connects up to Richmond Park and Putney Common too
I. G.
A nice park where I had a great 5k lap. I enjoyed the RunThrough race here. Nice green with good paths you can run on!
K. R.
Lovely place. Best for early morning nature walks. We discover new routes/paths almost everytime. Gets a bit crowded after 8am+.
t. c.
Lovely common land bordering Richmond park. Very wooded. Spoilt slightly by golf course; maybe the reason I didn't see a single Womble.
L. F.
Just beautiful, if you have not been it's a must.
Go get lost, lost some more and you will probably find yourself back at the station or a beautiful country pub with the fire burning. Need I say more.
T.
Great outdoor place
I would say better even than the neighbouring famous Richmond Park. Some areas feel almost wild :)
M.
Very nice, lots of greenery inbetween and hidden paths to big lakes, only except dont go in there at night - its dangerous
A. M.
Good dog walking, local shops and pubs at Wimbledon village very good especially the Dog and Fox which has excellent Sunday roasts. But parking is difficult around very narrow roads.
C. L.
Beautiful and clean common, with little pockets of nature reservation. Perfect for a family walk and a picnic in the summer or a cheeky snowball fight in winter.
C. W.
Maze like woods, ponds teeming with bird life, full of locals out walking their dogs. Opportunities to spot the rare London Scottish golfers dressed in red in their natural habitat.
C. B.
A famous open public space that is a huge resource for the people living here. You are certain to enjoy yourself, fantastic place to bring your children.
M. S.
Great open space, full of wild common areas and wildlife. A good space for a walk, but it can get busy with families at the weekend.

Great place to walk the dog... Just watch out for those golfers - although they are pretty easy to spot as they all wear red jumpers or jackets!

Great place for walks. Never get tired of it as there are many different routes and shave to get lost. It also has a nice tea room for the end of the walk.
W. S.
Lovely place to walk dogs or explore with the kids. Take a picnic as the cafe there is quiet expensive, nice food but still.
J. B.
Nice big open space at the top of the hill, accessible from all over, great walks from here down around the woods. Lots of nice pub options around too.
