Reviews of Whatman Park
G. D.
Its a great park with some cool stuff for kids not sure if would keep them entertained all-day. I assume the cafe is all good looks very nice..
All good,. Will amended over time......
S.
One of my favourite parks in Maidstone. Usually fairly quite as you can’t really park nearby. Has a good range of activities for children such as the Jolly Roger play area for younger children, a larger playground at the back with a skate park and the tree top walk way. The toilets are by the fitness centre entrance so is a bit of a pain to walk to when the kids want to go whilst playing at the playground. The nearest cafe is the one in the fitness centre. I also really enjoy the events that take place here such as proms in the park.
A. M.
Nice little walk, skate Park is fairly decent and quiet too , not used to its full potential though ,the council should use it a lot more for summer events
V. S.
This is a nice park. It has a lovely kiddies play area and a covered band area. There isn't really any parking in the park but there is plenty near by (not free I'm afraid). There are toilets at the main entrance to the park but nowhere else. Also no cafe or refreshments at all. Perfect place for events such as open-air cinema and local fates
M. D.
I don't think we walked round the whole place. No parking available so find somewhere around the area. Plenty of access to and from Maidstone centre. The park is situated right next to Maidstone West station. A pleaant place to spend an hour in the sun with a busy river Medway running parallel with the park. We loved the little park, with the swings and sand for the little ones. Didn't see the Bigger park lol.
N. C.
Great park for the kids. The addition of the new skate park is cool. Love the boardwalk through the trees. My son loves fishing for tadpoles at the pond in spring (always put back in the pond afterwards when we leave). And we really enjoy the concerts at the amphitheatre. We regularly walk or cycle to this park via the lovely Millennium route.
The only let down is the public toilets - filthy and dangerous as they're often used by 'undesirables' doing drugs (and other things!) in there.
Y.
A wonderful park, although it does get a bit muddy when it rains.
G. C.
Lovely park. Not very accessible. Skate park was very good.
Great for dog walking.
S. C.
Absolutely stunning place for a summer time stroll. Didn't have kids with us but lots of fun play areas that they would have enjoyed.
K. M.
Lovely tranquil walk along the river.
E. K.
nice park. has a playground for kids. no shaded area on playground though.
D. M.
Lovely park shame that you do get the drunks later in the afternoon. But lovely views a d the skate park and play park is good for the kids. Lovely river with great views too.
H. C.
I hadn't been for years and visiting it last week it was lovely to see how much has been added to the park with the amphitheatre and skate park!
My brother and I were a part of the school children that printed their hands in the concrete in 2000 (22 years ago 😱) but it was sad to see that this little corner had been totally forgotten about and had little up keep, I almost walked past it 😂
A. D.
Massive park, great for fishing and kayaking and walks
G. J.
A welcome open space in a very built up area. Would love to see some live music at the band stand. Could probably do with a bit of investment to help refresh some areas.
D. S.
Nice parkland gorgeous a walk and a good young kids playground
C. H.
Great park for the kids to explore and play in, plus lots of good paths for their scooters.
The cafe does a good range of food and drinks to grab before setting off, or after spending time in the park.
J. C. (.
Hadn't walked around here in about 15 years! Was lovely walking the dog in the sun with a friend today.
Nicely maintained park with clear paths and lots of bridges.
G. S.
Lovely park! Clean and tidy every time I visit it. There's skate park, playground for the little ones and another playground for older kids.
Also there are nice footpaths around which leads towards the river footpath and towards the leisure centre.
Worth visiting it!
J. W.
I love this park for the kids activities.. wooden walk bridge is really cool, then nice secluded wooded walk, great play area. Cool that it has a skate park.. yeah, really quite cool
*Update* knocked down to a 4* because I forgot. There is NO parking. Which is a real shame. Only available via gym which you pay for. Literally no other parking. Which is mad for a park
M. C.
Lovely park worth a wonder through. There are two pedestrian bridges that take you over to the river tow path and Allington Lock. Toilets are below par being isolated and starting to be overgrown. Being visible from the car park would make them more inviting.
G. K.
Love a bit of outside space. Nice for a wander
A. B.
My first visit with my two sons. My youngest is 11 with Downs Syndrome. He had a fantastic time on the play equipment. We travelled from Sevenoaks and will do again. Well deserved 5 stars
O. D.
2 playgrounds for younger and older children and one skate park. Pleasant and quiet with ample space to have a picnic. Clean with many benches to rest on.
J. P.
Beautiful park, but the litter is terrible. The skate park is over run with adult children taking drugs and drinking. Language is awful if you have young ones. Making it not for families in that area. The play park is very though. And very scenic walk sling the river. So good and bad points.
F. M.
It was a lovely place to walk round. Children have a choice of a more grown up adventure playground and younger ones have a pirates cove thing but it wasn't open when we were walking around. There is a stage where they evidently hold events, it was being washed down when we were there. There's a lovely walkway through the trees made of wood and also a skate board area. At the far end near the gym there are some fairly decent public toilets. Very peaceful by the river
T. C.
Great park, plenty to explore, accessible via two footbridges across the Medway of via a public footpath from Maidstone West station.
C. C.
It's nice here . Good long walk with lots of opportunities to stop and appreciate nature
A. D.
Great natural space with plenty of activity areas for children. Good place for picnics. Occasional music festivals held here. Nice riverside views and walks. No easy parking but this can be an advantage as the park is not overcrowded.
M. G.
Nice park had great time at the cinema
B. F.
Created for the millennium, the park now (2019) is looking a little tired. Good children's play area at the far end of the park, but other areas less well cared for. Not the most accessible, even though it is close to the town centre, some of the ramped paths are very tough/uneven, so not great for disabled access. Litter issues in some parts, especially the wooded area near the skate park.
R. J.
Great park by the river Medway, good walks to be had. Enjoyed it very much.
N. B. B.
Really nice park, good kids activities bin the two play grounds and tree top walk that is even pram accessable. Good park for picnics as well. There is also a skate park so later on in the day gets quite a few teens skating.
T. B.
Nice and big park for walking and relax
M. G.
Our local park that is used mostly for walking our dog or times with the grandchildren. It is well designed given the long, thin nature of the park. Areas for young children, skate park, adventure play (zip wire) and a good size bandstand that does have concerts. Quite secure with only three ways in.
S. B.
This is a beautiful park with something for children of all ages from babies to the skating teens. There are 3 separate areas to go into, tree top walks, lots of beautiful well looked after greenery and flowers around.
There are lots of benches to sit down and enjoy the park and areas to sit and have a picnic or relax on the grass too.
There is a bandstand there and they use that, obviously more in the summer months, but it adds to the fun of the summery park experience for sure.
There are also little sentimental pieces around the park that you can find like the row of tiles with children's handprints/ footprints in them, or a metal ring ornamental design piece with a short poem written on each spiral piece that you can read as you walk through it.
If you havent been here yet this is definitely the place to try when the sun is shining, you'll be making plans to go back again as soon as you're leaving I'm sure.
Enjoy!
J. T.
Really nice park in the north end of Maidstone town centre. It's best to access the park by walking. The closest place to park would be by the Gallager Stadium where parking charges may apply. It's a spacious park with two adventure play areas (one play area for toddlers and another one for older kids), small woodland walk, Skate park with ramps and a treetop trail, so definitely family friendly.
There is loads of green space for running around, having a picnic etc. One problem is that the toilets are over one end of the park so there's a bit of a walk to one end if you want to use these facilities.
Other than that, a great place to visit and enjoy.
S. A.
Lovely roast dinner, with a great salted caramel sundae. nice atmosphere. Very clean with social distancing aids.
D.
Really nice park. As long as you don't need to use the toilets. Had signs of drug misuse when I did. I wouldn't want to take my kids in there. Made me think twice about the park too. Such a shame. Could of been a great place to take the kids...
R. T.
The park is is absolutely lovely, next to the river and well kept. Disgusting though how every single parking spot is hugged by businesses. Not even a chance to park and display; just get out in 30 minutes. So they basically have the complete park at ransom.. Didn't think something like this would even be legal.
D. H.
Lovely hidden park in Maidstone!
V. S.
This is a great park to have a stroll around in or take your children to, so that they can enjoy the cycling paths, Tree Top boardwalk, the adventure play area(s) and skate/BMX ramps and half pipes. There are lots of open spaces which are ideal for a picnic or just relaxing. The only downsides are that parking is not very good as you have to park near the Gallagher Football Stadium and walk a bit, although it is along the river so it's not too bad. Also, the toilets are quite a distance from the play areas, but they've put up some port-a-loos halfway between the two locations. I'm not sure if they are permanent additions or not. However, it's a lovely park with a lot of different stuff to hopefully keep everyone happy.
N. S.
Brilliant park they is accessible from Maidstone Town Centre. It's hidden away so you don't realise you are in the Town! Plenty for the children to do including a Toddler Play area and a much larger play area, tree top walk, pond for pond dipping, skate park and just a beautiful walk around the park
P. B.
A lovely little oasis with something for everyone - picnic spots, adventure parks for young and old, skateboard park, trim trail and even a tree top walk. Given a 4 star though because of lack of amenities - no toilets or cafe at all, which considering there is a fairly hefty walk in any direction to get to the closest of either of these, seems to be a bit of an oversight!
M. W.
Not bad for a walk by the river. Children's playground and tree walk with free access. Has toilets although by the graffiti on the outside I wondered what the inside were like.
A. J.
Very nice place for walks and picnics and to take kids to. Can walk along the river and there is play areas. Very well maintained. Only downside is there is no cafe or place to buy any food or drinks
e. g.
Clean, well maintained, gathering place for teens and families. Pleasant walks, children's sand play area, swings, slides etc.
R. F.
Lovely quiet park. Play areas for children including a zip wire. Skateboard facilities.
Close to city centre.
What's not to like.
T. P.
Bohemian Rhapsody outdoor cinema. Unfortunately people could smoke what they liked, where they liked so we were surrounded people smoking cigarettes and cannabis. The park itself was clean and tidy. Would recommend the park, just not the events held there
J. N.
Pokemon Go Heaven!
A stupid amount of stops for players including 2 bundles of 3 to sit on.
Whatman park is a lovely park by the river. There are many activities including a newly refurbished skate park. The park for the kids is pretty cool and set on 3 levels with slides connecting and a big tyre zip line at the top.
If the kids are old enough to run off on their own there is also a cool treetop run behind the park.
Keep an eye out for events as there is a small outside area for shows.
Toilets on site are about a 5/10 they get the job done but a little dirty.
Only downside is the parking. If you park at Whatman you only get half hour. No more fullstop! I myself found it better to park in Maidstone and take the 10 min walk down and then that way had aslong as I wanted in the park.
M.
Great place to go with the kids to play in the park or to go on walks, however lots of teenagers hang around at the skate park and smoke which maybe out some people off. Lots of people walk dogs, go for picnics and others go for a family day out.
C. B.
Decent walkable circuit that you can get a pushchair around. Most of the paths are very uneven so be prepared. 2 playgrounds, 1 was partially suitable for my 1 year old.
R. S.
A lovely park for a jog or wander. Good adventure playground equipment for kids. Nice nature trails and short woodland walks.
U. E. P. S. L.
Lovely park. good skate pk and kids play area but no cameras now so don't want to be here after dusk lots of wooded areas for weirdos to lurk about
R. V.
That's my favorite park. I like it because it is very cozy and has nice place for the little ones to play and never too crowded. And you can enjoy a nice riverside walking :)
M. S.
Great for all ages. Gets really busy at weekends
S. B.
A really lovely park with access to walk alongside the river. Only downside was no soap in toilets, which is unacceptable in current climate.
B. B.
Lovely park, clean and our Dog Luv it !
B. S.
A lovely and beautiful place for overload (alone with the family or the friends) or play for anyone.
T. L.
Fairly large park alongside the River Medway. No real parking and not much to do other than sit on the grass and walk the loop around the park.
D. B.
First time I had ever been here and what a lovely place. Only down side is that there is no parking on site so a bit of a pain to get to but can always park in Maidstone itself and walk across. That's why we have legs!
P. P.
Beautiful mid size park, perfect for spending some family time. There are loads of fishing spots next to Medway River which are usable as bbq places in the summertime
H. C.
Nice natural park. Not exactly Greeneich Park in appearance. Spacious and clean but bland. Was probably once a forest. No flowers.
N. G.
A quick retreat away from the city for a quiet time or a walk
Z. E. C.
Nice park, good open space for the kids, decent play area, lots of wildlife and long walks. Leads to the path by the river for a nice jaunt down to Allington Lock.
J. H.
Not a bad park really big nice and open could do a little bit more for the kids in the play area I lovely little walk along the river and around the park
H. H.
Nice medium sized park just outside Maidstone. Great for all ages and lots off photo opportunities. Avoid the public toilets as they're a bit run down.
N. R.
Nice open area alongside the River Medway, however, public facilities which are signposted are always closed. Small children's play area and a super BMX and skate board facility.
D. P.
Good open space
A. A. (.
Very good park for walks, bike rides and a play area for kids.
A. G.
A lovely, well maintained public space with areas for games, dog walking, picnics & the occasional public event, often using the bandstand
A.
Lovely park with lots of space for the kids to play. Nice to wander down to the river and really close to Maidstone town centre.
D. H.
Great walk along the river and awesome place for kayaking/canoeing, good place for people of all ages and Malta Inn a 4 min drive for good food to finish the night
M. C.
First time I've been here, but walking up or is it down the river from Maidstone to allingtong is just so pleasant. There's also a great place to just sit and contemplate and have something nice to eat and drink.
R. P.
Nice grounds and a lot to do. Play park, skate park, events stage and the river plus more. Great hidden gem of Maidstone
J.
Absolutely love this place. Beautiful scenery and friendly people. My son and I frequently use the skatepark and its always in good condition.
E. T.
Nice little spot, never really busy like Mote park etc probably because if the lack of parking. Play parks much better now renovated.
Z. C.
Nice for the kids to run around and okay with the 2 playgrounds but there should be somewhere to buy a drink or an I've cream especially on these hot days otherwise cool .
B. H.
I think I'm going source a bit more of the way they are they have a good job and I have a great chance of winning this title but they are very good and proper scummy guys and they spudded me to be honest with them for lunch I'll have a good time at the top of the table but they will do it again if they had a drink sometime they would I give them to raves but they would have a chance of winning the title in a suitcase but they are not really too many people I'd call them on depop.
J. F.
Beautiful, tranquil and right on the edge of Maidstone town centre. Imaginatively landscaped with plenty to see and do, it's a real treasure. Only the awkward parking lets it down.
S. S.
Nice walk next to the river, plenty of things to see! A good park within, and lots of places perfect for picnics!
A. G. U.
Lovely park just be careful in the bigger park as you have the bigger kids (teenagers) in there and the language coming from the skate park too.
C. O.
Really nice place by the river. Plenty to do with children: climbing areas and slides. Short walk from Maidstone in one direction and Allington in the other.
N. H.
Great park to go for a walk with dogs!
J. S.
A little way out of town but well worth the walk. Quiet, peacefully and right next to the river. Look out for the concealed concrete bunkers.
T. W.
Really nice park close to the city centre. Friendly for dogs with two play grounds and good skatepark
J. D.
Supurb local park in a lovely setting. Great playparks for kids too 🙂
C. T.
My son loves coming here. He enjoys riding around the little skate park with his dad and the park just next to it has lots for him to do
P. G.
Quiet walk down by the river. Open grasslands. Meadows. Tree top walk. Woodland walks. Plenty of wildlife to see.

K. A.
Beautiful park, but car parking is an issue.
R. R.
Well maintained and beautiful park setting next to a canal, the childrens play park is not the greatest needs some attention
G. L. M.
It's really quite and has some beautiful views. Not many people use it so it feels like your right outside of the town.
R. B.
Not much to do, but lovely to look at, wouldn't bring kids here unless you wanted to do sports or something that doesn't require any equipment, but it's lovely for a walk in the park or just a chill day out with friends
I. D.
Always a nice place to visit
R. N.
Nice park with hidden attractions, limited access means it is generally very quiet.
F. A.
Large, open and spacious. Even has a forest. Often used to host concerts and hosted the Maidstone mela 2018
