Reviews of St Michael's Flags & Angel Meadow Park
M. K.
Perfect place for an adventurous experience in the heart of summer in London. For adults and kids to enjoy a fun day out. Warm waters. Ninja ropes are not for the kiddies though
K. u.
First time there very interesting history but sad too 40.000 human remains under it wow Manchester sure is full of history just go on YouTube and put it in
M. U.
Incredible space, you can truly escape the maelstrom of urban life without having to leave the city. I also greatly appreciate the historic/political heritage of the park too.
M. G.
A rare bit of green-space in manchester! I also saw posters about some doggy events, which will be amazing (possibly a puppy pride, but don’t quote me on that). Plenty of bins about, and benches to sit and enjoy the quiet.
M. S.
Lovely little park. Was there in 2018, to take part in Manchester Walk It to spread Awareness about Crohn's Disease and Colitis as well as fundraise for Crohn's and Colitis UK.
T. k.
Nice place to relax but has a bit of a dark past. Read the book ' Angel Meadow ' by Dean Kirby. 40,000 people buried under this park.
K. P.
Nice little green patch in the middle of manchester. Lots of dogs, and people making use if thw space for exercise, bbqs and playing wuth their kids. Open 24 hours a day although there is no lighting at all in parts so i would stay out of here after dark, it's still Manchester after all. No parking nearby so if you're not local its not worth the trip. Lots of little signs explaining the history of the spot too which is realky nice.
J. E.
Really nice park. It’s a bit small but then it is in the city centre
L. T.
Nestled between some relatively new apartment blocks and the railway arches this is like a haven from the madness of the centre of the city... Busy with bathers and barbecueists in summer, and much quieter in autumn winter it's a very cool place to get that little bit closer to nature and take a breath...
D. N.
Great place to visit in 4 seasons in a year . Every time I feel any changes in nature in this park .
J. P.
A great spot all year round. Never had any trouble there. Sturdy benches. Lots of friendly doggos and humans. Might smell of weed sometimes but hardly ever smells of spice. A fine green place, despite its spooky history, to enjoy a tinny in Manchester.
D. P.
This is a small park which is on the site of an old church which was demolished in 1935. The "Flags" of the name refers to the gravestones laid on the grounds, whilst "Angel Meadow" refers to the part of the park that was once the biggest paupers graveyard in Manchester
The whole area has a rich history which tells of poverty and deprivation, and was Manchesters worst slum during the Industrial Revolution. Nearby, the building that once housed a Ragged School and Working Girls Home still hosted a cooked breakfast for the homeless until recently.
Nowadays the park is considered to be a hidden gem. It's a small, pleasent area, tucked away and surrounded by modern developments and is popular amongst sunbathers in summer. Like most people I was surprised wben I stumbled across it.
There are plenty of small artifacts to be seen; some of the gravestones are still here and the steps dotted around the park are probably leftovers from the original structure. Apart from that there are several noticeboards displaying small nuggets of information about the place and if visited during a relatively quiet period - early morning, say - just looking at the land itself makes it obvious that there was once a large and heavy presence here.
S. L.
On the hottest day EVER it was a lovely cool spot albeit at 19.30. People picnicking and doggies strolling
A. C. -. M.
Great local park to walk, sit, picnic and relax
d. 2.
This park has a amazing history the connection with Manchester and the industrial Revolution is fantastic, the ragged school is just facing the park ,all amazing history a must visit .
A. S.
Located near to Rochdale Road. Lovely little park with friendly local people walking their dogs. Very historic place and good info boards. My two dogs loved it
L. S.
Nice park in the middle of the town centre nice space
A.
St Michael's Flags and Angel Meadow Park is a public park in Manchester, England, to the immediate northeast of the city centre, on a slope between the River Irk and Rochdale Road. It occupies an area of 7.4 acres (3 ha), and was once an affluent suburb, until the 19th-century Industrial Revolution altered the social standing of the area and introduced poverty and disease. Regeneration of the park in the 2000s has created a gateway into the Irk Valley.

Nice and quiet, perfect to enjoy a sunny day. A strong part of Manchester's history.
M. S.
Cool place to walk your dog or sit and relax. There is no table to eat or children playground though.
S. C.
One of very few open spaces in Manchester city centre, probably appreciated more by locals than visitors. A small green space but interesting history well put across with informative notice boards and area of grave stones at the SW end of the park.
S. C.
Lovely park, convenient for those who live in the city. Very well maintained and mostly tidy. Can get a little muddy off the path.
A. L.
We were here on a Saturday afternoon. People in the park ranged from people relaxing and socialising with a drink, to families playing cricket, cycling and playing football.
Atmosphere is friendly and the size of the park is great for a city centre.
Plenty of dogs on and off their leads, despite this there was no dog poo in sight.
L. A.
A small park just by Green Quarter and Noma. Currently some building works happening around the edge of the park so it is a bit noisy at the moment. But it is a lovely sun trap with lots of established trees and flower beds, and it is in a handy location as it is next to a Co-op and the Angel Pub.
L. H.
Nice green space with tidy paths, good for a short dog walk (water trough available in one of the grassy areas), and good tree cover for when it's sunny
F. M.
Probably the biggest green space in the city. It always surprises me how quiet the place is....you can hear the birdsong!!!
H.
Good for a sit down and views of the city from an unusual angle but also a historical setting (read the signs!) and a good place to walk with your dog. Pro tip : close to the marble pub that does great food
P. R.
Lovely park in this area of the city. The FOAM take good care of it. Definitely an oasis for the city....going to become even more if an oasis in the middle of some huge building which are going to come up around it...peace maybe list for a few years but hoping will be back to peaceful tikes soon after construction. Hoping for better maintenance and security once all construction is done and the extra council tax starts to flow in
A. P.
Great place to visit outdoors. We visited for a walk and my 4yr old loves to explore new places. Loads of history attached to this part of Manchester and a great place to visit.
S. K.
Smaller than I thought, but for people who live in City Centre (and kids with skateboards,😎,),I can see this working for them. Not great for kids
B. “. M.
Top little hidden inner city quiet spot. Steeped in amazing history and always amusing to watch the young, hip kids barbecue/yoga their man-buns off, blissfully unaware that they are doing so directly on top of hundreds of rotting corpses. Surely this should be Home to some sort of museum/information centre dedicated to the working class of Manchester and the price they paid to make Manchester the city it is today
J.
A really nice park to relax in the middle of the city. Lots of building around being built making it feel alittle closed in however, unavoidable. Would definitely come and spend some time here in the future.
a.
The pollution was really difficult to cope with. there were bottles of plastic and other rubbish all around the floor and you could hear people screaming and the sounds of the factories surrounding it. Is definitely not a place I'd gone if I didn't have to get to Manchester from the car park
L. M.
Nice inner city park, plenty of green/grassy areas. Some public restrooms would be a good addition.
Z. W. (.
Great little park, but people seem to leave their drink cans around after enjoying it. Maybe that's just the UK though...
H. C.
It's a rare but pleasant thing to find a lovely patch of greenery in the city but Angel Meadows is just that. Safeguarded against any future commercial development, this small park located immediately behind the Co-Op HQ, One Angel Square, can only improve as time goes on.
X. H.
SOOOOO many dogs every time I go to this park its beautiful 😍 such a chill little park in the middle of the city.
L. K.
Cool park, I really like to walk here in the evenings
P. P.
Angel Meadows is a great location to have BBQ's during summer but be wary of the homeless using this park to sleep under trees and on benches. The park is very open and always busy over weekends with dogwalkers and locals enjoying the weather in Manchester.
C. C.
Loads of cool history here. Check out Martin Zero on YouTube he tells you more about this place in particular
a. i.
A nice place to detent in the center of manchester city
R. M.
Yes, a great location for bbq's. If you do see any homeless people invite them to share yours. I'm sure they will be grateful.
T. S.
Despite being a dark cold evening this was an interesting walk through one of the most horrific times of Mancunian history. Tales of famine, of cholera, of infant mortality and criminality all within Irish Town or Angel Meadow as it is known by. The cause? Unfortunately the same as today. Poorly paid immigrant workforce, poor education and a disregard of all things legal moral and spiritual.
D. T.
Quiet little park. Good to get away from the busy road to do a few laps and get the step counters up!
S.
A bit of green near the city centre! Crikey! Perfect for a break or picnic on a clear day. The park is not very large - but it is green and fairly quiet!
T. W.
Lovely garden area surrounded by high rise apartments was a very poor slum area back to back houses along the river Irwel
I. P.
Very historic part of Manchester - visited by Engels and painted by Lowry. Now a pleasant park built on top of 40,000 burial plots.
N. M.
Nice peaceful park
J. C.
A nice, interesting little park with various sign boards to read more into the nature and history of the place.
L. T. P.
Its a nice bit of space in the summer
To sit
A bit small but also a nice walk through
W. S.
Fantastic little park and one of the few green spaces in Manchester. History boards throughout the park explain the fascinating history of the area.
L. T. T.
A very interesting history of that area of Manchester, worth a visit.
S. M.
Too small but nice location. There’s no coffee break there!
D. R.
It's a sad history.
Nice to wiew,
But make a park from the grave yard??!!!
Never!!!
How I said,
Nice and beautiful,
But history are history!!!!
T. W.
It's looking a little sad but just waiting for that early Spring growth

m. c.
Lovely park and great place to spend time away from the hectic atmosphere of the City Centre.
l. t.
Spot on place to relax take in the summer weather and enjoy the features
O. H.
Nice to have a bit of green space. Could do with cleaning up the trash, but hoping this comes with further development to the area.
M. D.
Great, small park. Can get busy on sunny days
A. B.
Lovely green space in Manchester. Need more places like this!!!
B. N.
A bit noisy during the day because of the traffic but it's a decent place to have a picnic in Manchester. Don't expect much
G. S.
Not a big space but nice to have the trees and green space there and volunteers look after it. Thanks guys.
J. H. (. H.
Nice Park close to the city center. It's a little bit noisy if a train passes by...
w. l. i. a. s.
there are squirrels everywhere just hopping about the place and Robins too :)
M. S.
Lovely park with plenty of benches and open grassy areas.
J. M.
Always a little green oasis in the city. Clean tidy and quiet and eerie atmosphere due to today's fog
S. L.
Really interesting park, the history boards were really informative, gave a real sense for the past.
L. G.
Lovely park just off the centre of Manchester. Nice for a lunch time stroll or sit down.
T. k.
A beautiful park with an incredible history.
Read the book "Angel Meadow " by Dean Kirby
G. M.
Historically interesting site, though there are much nicer parks to visit in the city.
H. S.
In center of city, good spacious park to relax, picnic and play good sports with friends and family.
J. W.
Incredibly moving. Read up on the history of the old - long demolished - slum before you visit to fully appreciate it.
M. M.
Lovely park with some very informative signs and open late at night
M. C.
Brings back to you the hard times our fellow man must have had in order to survive. Now a peaceful place rather than the Hell Hole that it was.
C. C.
A small park but still good like any other nice parks.
M. P.
A piece of grass and some trees. In Manchester. A true rarity. Like a oasis in the desert.
E. U.

C. L.
Nice place with great history! Really makes you think about the (human) price of "development"
K. S.
Lovely meadow, but full of camping junkies as well...but that seems to be pretty normal in Manchester in general
M. P.
Fascinating to try to grasp the horror of the place as it was 150 years ago.
D. M.
Lovely morning walk around angel medows, wish st Michael's church was still there x
M. “. M. V.
An historic park surrounded by new developments and restored buildings.
m. j.
A hidden piece of history. Worth the visit. Pity more of the appalling suffering of the working class who lived here isn't on the boards.
C. C.
A nice place to sit and reflect on local history
