Reviews of The Park Tunnel

I have lived in Nottingham for many years and only recently discovered this place, it is a very impressive tunnel located a short walk from Nottingham cathedral or Nottingham Castle, the easiest way to access the tunnel is by a set of stairs decending into the tunnel from Upper college Street, definitely well worth a visit.

An absolute hidden gem!
Have lived in Nottingham all my life and walked right by this many times. Never knew it existed!
If it isn't already, this needs to be a listed site. We need to preserve historical wonders like this.
Such a beautiful walk through. If you don't like pigeons, I'd recommend just observing from a distance. There are quite a few nesting on the ledges in the sandstone above.
I absolutely love this site. A truly beautiful spot to visit in Nottingham!

Wonderful hidden gem. Great short cut between Derby Road and Castle Boulevard, or Derby Road the castle itself. Probably an awful short cut, honestly! Well worth the extra fee minutes though!

I have been in Nottingham for 35 years and this is a hidden gem 💎 with I only just found. Visit my Instagram page to see more photos @scottstravelphotos

Very interesting, would be nice if there were some information boards rather than having to rely on the internet as signal is very poor there.

The Park Tunnel was built in 1855 to allow horsedrawn carriages access to The Park Estate from Derby Road in Nottingham. The tunnel now provides pedestrian access from Derby Road, Upper College Street and The Ropewalk to the Park, but remains a hidden gem in the city centre. The Derby Road entrance can be hard to find but accessible from Ropewalk or The Park.

Interesting history to this tunnel, some rich git in olden times didn't want to go up and over so dug a tunnel through, I had previously though it was a disused railway tunnel.

Great little gem from the past not long but still worth a visit as the size and engineering of it is just mind bobbling.

Absolutely beautiful place to visit 👍

The Park side of the tunnel is nicely lit and quite interesting to see (large icicles in recent cold snap) - surprisingly big.
The city-side of the tunnel is something different, suffering slightly from the pigeon population and a lack of even lighting...
But definitely worth checking out as part of a walk or run, etc.

Found whilst walking Nottingham and looking for some history - entry to it is insane, it feels like your trespassing into a block of flats and then walking into their underground car park, we almost turned back. But the walk we were following told us to go through it so we did, and it's excellent. Opens up into 2 large tunnels that's have been carved out of the rock, and the history (you can find this yourself) is interesting.
It smells of pigeons mind, there's loads of there at the moment on nests and the noise of them is load. But I like pigeons, so this was a positive too!

Nice walk small tunnel

A sandstone tunnel that was intended to be used by horse drawn carriages, but was too steep and thus unusable. Otherwise the horses would have been crushed by free rolling carriages, the horses themselves would probably have slipped too!
The steps you can see are pretty steep themselves and probably should be avoided in icy conditions.

just some boring tunnel thing, one end comes out in a car park and the other is some peoples gardens. looks kind of cool for a second but its full of mental people and druggys and stabbers

Real gem in the heart of the city. You go from modern Derby Road flats and step back in time.

What a gem in the city centre, a gateway to a nice quiet part of Nottingham, very relaxing

Walked through at night - it was well lit & pretty impressive, even if i've no idea what it was for! Maybe theres an info board & i missed it....

Apparently when they were building the houses in the Park, the horses kept slipping on the road by the Castle, so they dynamited through caves to create the Tunnel and it remains a place that lots of locals don know about.
