Reviews of University Parks
M. T.
I was visiting Oxford with my dog and I definitely struggled to find a place to let her run freely and I'm so glad I found this park. It's huge and with lots of stunning walks. It's also very clean and well kept.
j. g.
Lovely open park with beautiful views . I went to watch the cricket but had a liver stroll round and watched the punting and sat under the blossom
D. D.
Oxford University Park South Lodge. Situated in quiet peaceful corner. Extremely beautiful lodge.
G. C.
Excellent park maintained very well by Oxford University. One of my favorites parks and a must visit if u are in Oxford
L. L.
Great place for picnic, relaxing and sunbathing in summer.
A. N.
a really beautiful park to walk in the afternoon, especially at spring time!
J. P.
Lovely open space, was also nice to see it is very clean
I. G.
Beautiful place to walk round or run round. Great views, nice wooded areas a really tranquil place in the middle of a bustling city. A walk by the river is nice too, the trees in the parks are well matured and there are many different varieties. Great for a picnic
S. T.
One of Oxford's many wonderful green spaces. Large enough for a nice chill day out, but close enough to the city to be easily accessible. Plenty of space (open and shaded), and an array of plant life. Also features a little pond, and access to the Cherwell. (N.B. if you follow the river path southward enough, you end up on the other side of Addison's Walk.)
r. M.
A wonderful collection of plants and trees for all to enjoy whatever the season. Open green spaces for sports and water features with wildlife in abundance.
E. L.
Very carefully maintained. After walking around the Oxford neighborhood you might enjoy to rest under a tree shadow. You might find many people reading, having picnic. A nice place for the family. And dont forget, it is close to the river. If you live trees this is the place!
M. F.
A beautiful park in the centre of Oxford, full of beautiful flowers, trees and shrubs. A glorious walk along the river, the famous rainbow bridge, massive duck pond and plenty to see! Great picnic location whilst watching people trying to navigate the punts along the river!
D. T.
A vast public park in the heart of Oxford with many beautiful gardens, large sports fields, and a variety of plants. It has a cricket ground as well. The University Park is a great place for all sorts of outdoors activities.
M. B.
Really popular park area and a lovely walk along the river. Well worth the visit and the four stars.
G. S.
Beautiful place. I take a big walk in this park , twice or more.
D.
Nice local, well maintained park with open spaces and beauty.
D. S.
The parks are huge, it's a very pleasant place to stroll in greenery. Plus plenty of benches when you need a rest from the strolling!
c.
Pretty good, don’t see why it has to close after dark though.
S. D.
Wide open spaces and easy access for wheelchair users. There are a number of field sports that we saw on the day to name a few cricket, rugby, lacrosse(?) and even the fantasy game from Harry⚡︎Potter -Quidditch
E. M.
Wonderful place to visit, money well spent and good university show-off as always. People could take their rubbish home could be the only improvement. Great time
T. W.
Love the variety of trees here. Wish there was more. Great paths, great walks
D. P.
A wonderful place for a walk, with or without children. Superbly maintained lawns, a variety of old trees, riverside... Closing times during winter a bit annoying though.
D. L.
Such a lovely space; lots of seats to relax, and if you want to do a picnic, it's possible as well.
P. W.
Beautiful sunny but windy day
The leaves are going, winter's on the way.
Shadows were fun
C. C.
Amazing place.... amazon nature......you can go for a picnic..... there is waterfalls.... I love it...
P. A.
Just beautiful, full of autumn colours and very peaceful.
A. K.
A very nice and beautiful park. Great for running. Worth a visit. Has some nice lakes.
B. A.
Awesome place to relax, take a deep breath and enjoy nature 😀
M. E.
Pleasant centrally located park that has numerous playing fields for sports. This is an old park that is traditional in that there are mature trees, lots of playing fields for rugby and football that are used every day. There are many paths around and going through the park that are great for walks or jogging. It's not too busy and it's pretty open so you can see quite far. Recommended.
N. R.
The cricket square was in poor shape with poorly repaired old strips.
The stumps should be inserted into the middle if the line!! The pavilion does look tired. Disappointed on my first back to the Parks for cricket since 1965
P. B.
Great for a walk or to be in peace close to nature.
A. M. B.
Spend most everyday here. My sons school backs onto the park. Incredible collection of trees. So big one can never get bored.
T.
Such a big field to walk around and relax!! With the sun, you can easily enjoy a lovely picnic with love ones 😎 great place to chill!
B. P.
Great park to go for a walk
M. B.
Spacious, good walking tracks, tree lines, cricket and football pitch.
M. W.
Fabulous spot just off the centre of the city. Calm, beautiful and relaxing.
R. O.
A beautiful place to walk and to enjoy the trees
M. T.
Very good walk several times a week.
B. T.
Amazing place, especially on Race for Life day.
D. D.
Pretty park.
Very spacious. Room for sports to play too
A. P.
Cute place! Great for a walk or picnic. I would say go in summer at around 8-9pm for nice golden views.
A. P.
Lovely place for walk and to eat lunch etc
R. S.
It's very nice and spacious enough for a various group of friends to be there. If you're looking for something quiet, that's probably not the right place to go, but if you just want to be in a park enjoying the day in a green area, with friends or by yourself, the university park is a good place to go.
K. L. R.
It's hard to believe you are in the middle of a city in the expanse of the Parks. The huge old trees and well cared for borders almost feel like the grounds of a stately home in the countryside. Wildlife abounds on the river and in the trees, with birds aplenty and even the occasional otter family making their home in this beautiful pocket of nature. Oxford is a University city so students are frequently spotted inhabitants of the Parks, and it is lovely to see them having fun and bringing it to life in a different way.
D. M.
Great venue for an event village for a 10km run. A river runs through it.
N. s. g. B.
I liked this place cause it has a football pitch. I love football
G. B.
Lovely place for a park run.
G. A.
Absolutely beautiful parks and definitely worth a visit
B. V. (.
Well been there when it snowed last winter like around Jan last week and it was a great day to remember.
Park has plenty space great view of lake , walking paths are good bicycle route is also present next to it but yet it's safe as it has plenty of space
M. Q.
Well maintained park with good running tracks. There is also an affordable tennis club in the middle of the park.
J. B.
Glorious mix of trees, grass, lake, river, tributaries, shrubs, and pathways around and to the beyond (or to the city centre!)
T. P.
Large open space in the centre of Oxford. Nice scenic walk around the outside with access to the river. Perfect on a summer's day.
E. S.
Gorgeous old and beautifully grown treea 🤩👍
A. B.
Wonderful place for all ages
W. L.
Good place to run in the morning.
I. A.
Love University Parks. Great place to take a minute for yourself.
S. J.
It's a great place right next to the university to chill and hang out on a hot summer day. Really enjoyed it :)
X. M.
Do not miss a walk in the canals in your visit (its free) o better go by boat :)
c. b.
Fun permitted in strictly controlled areas. No bikes. Pleasant place to picnic or frisbee or wander through.
N. R.
Decent park, good for a morning run. It's got a bit of everything -- trees, grass, duck ponds, benches, and playing fields.
P. A.
One of oxfords unsung treasures. It’s a great place for a stroll, picnic, games or a run. The path round the perimeter is just over 2K. There is a duckpond there are toilets and there are no bicycles!
M. W.
Very nice park, has a bit of everything for everyone. Flowers, trees, space for running, a pond with ducks, a nice river and bridge, football/rugby areas, frisbee areas, as well as benches for just relaxing.
D.
Lovely on a sunny day. The pen spaces are well laid out and offer some shade from mature trees.
The path by the river is busier and has some benches and picnic areas for the punt occupants.
There are tennis courts and a public restroom further in and wide open spaces for recreational sport.
X.
It was amazing and very big 100% go there!!
E. H.
Beautiful park in the city, not far from the centre. The well kept paths make it really easy to walk or run around. You can walk down to the Thames and watch people punt in the summer time. There are plenty of benches, including one dedicated to J.R. Tolkien. There are also various spaces for sports. Overall a really beautiful green space to forget you are in the middle of a city.
F. S.
I'm there multiple times a week. My default spot for running in Oxford. Also, a great place for walks. Don't miss the Tolkien bench!
L. J. M.
Calm, clean, well-kept, perfect for an evening stroll
K. D. F.
Fabulous parks with grass tennis courts and amazing cricket
P. H.
A lovely place to stroll through in the early autumn sunshine Fairly level so good for buggies, wheel chairs and those with mobility issues.
C. W.
Went there for Sobell House Rainbow of Ribbons.
D. A.
It's a beautiful and lovely local park. I enjoy cycling through the park to go to work. It's a great place for a walk, jogging or even a family picnic. Totally recommend it
L. E.
The garden is very nice and the flowers and fields are beautiful on a sunny day. Not only that though but it is located right next to the Natural History Museum so it is also useful as a place to chill after going there.
H. C.
Surprisingly busy but ideal for Tier 4 walking. Three cheers for coffee cart outside Pitt Rivers for providing a hot drink after a bracing walk. Floods currently closing some pathways.
M. E.
Beautiful parks, very well maintained. Bikes not allowed (and they enforce this). Peaceful place to take a walk or jog. Good place for a picnic. You might even be lucky and see a group of posh kids playing quidditch (I kid you not!)
A.
So many birds to watch! Everytime I walk around I see new and wonderful things. Each path has different trees that are numbered and there is a corresponding list online to tell you what they all are. The river on one side and the pond at the north east end give you the illusion of walking much further than around inside a city. My favorite place in Oxford!
D. V.
Beautiful park.. big trees, flowers, a pond with swans and an adjoining river.. lots of flowers during summer and beautiful colours during autumn..also lots of benches to sit.. if you are lucky you can catch a county match in the parks cricket ground
D. M.
Lovely river walk. Exit by hump back bridge and hug rivers edge to your left and you'll eventuallly reach wolfson college's own Bridge in 5 - 10 mins, public thoroughfare to those little roads behind the Banbury Road which lead to Cherwell boathouse, by taking first left out side wolfson and Summertown if you go up to Banbury Road and right. Lovely walk to Wolfson. Cows!
A.
Great place to walk, the tracks are smooth if running is more your thing. There are adequate benches to take a seat and watch the world go by.
In the spring people would often canoe, paddle or even swim in the river
E. A.
This is a lovely park especially in the spring and summer seasons where there are blossom and pretty flowers. There is vast space for a picnic and the kids love to run about and play football and climb trees. It's a great place!
e. d.
Lots of trees, ducks and beutiful views.
D. Q.
Beautiful, well-maintained, sprawling parks owned by the University. Great spot for a picnic or the sport of your choice, or just a delightful walk. Note that no bicycles are allowed even if not ridden!
N. J.
Great Park for walking the dog, a good path all the way around so wet weather isn't an issue.
An added bonus of no bicycles so the dogs can run around freely.
G. H. (.
Nice big green space near the centre of Oxford. Great for running, walking, of just chilling out. Nice big pond, and river walk too. Lots of benches and a wide variety of trees and plants. Also a cricket pitch and pavillion
T. N.
I love the trees and the space here. The river and the flowerbeds are also delightful.
W. R.
Absolutely amazing. Lovely trees 🌳 and plants 🪴. Tranquil environment and a place to unwind after a busy week .
S. B.
The park is simply beautiful, it's well designed with lots of seating to relax or read or take in the views.
D. B.
Very nice walk with the the River Cherwell at the bottom end. So many different shrubs and trees from all over the world planted. Also a pond too. Relax in a quiet place and let the world go by.
S. G.
Such a lovely walk and an excellent place to spend an afternoon. Sometimes there are plays going on so check if there are any at the moment. The park closes so keep an eye on the times and the entrances of the park, you don't want to be locked in
C. B.
A really nice laid out park, great for strolling, running, good size, nice selection of trees. River Cherwell runs along the far side, gravel paths suitable for buggies. Child friendly.
K. H.
What a good park! Nice big green spaces, various trees n' flowers n' stuff that make it right pretty, a duck pond, and a good network of paths. Seriously, it is ideal for a nice walk, and well suited to runners too (3 laps = 4mi, iirc). Only downside is the restrictions on which bits of grass the public can play football on (or other recreational activity of choice); university cricket pitch, rugby pitch etc. are off limits, but there's enough other space, and it is literally owned by the university, and they keep it looking so gooood, so fair enough!
O. B.
A lovely, peaceful park just outside the centre of Oxford and close to tourist attractions at the Natural History and Pitt Rivers Museum. The park offers a network of walking paths, access to walks by the river, wide lawns and beautifully planted flower beds. The Park is generally open dawn to dusk.
D. N.
Beautiful, peaceful. You become One with nature :-).
P. E.
Nice well kept park not far from the city centre. Lots of flowers and you can walk down to the river and watch the students punting. You can watch cricket in the Summer
S. J.
Just wow first time walking around this beautiful park. They had womens cricket on people playing tennis and a Circus. Still more to see so another visit soon.
B. S.
Nice place for a relaxing walk or jog. There are a large variety of trees and open spaces. Lots of occupied space for sports such as cricket, rugby, tennis and lacrosse (season depending).
A. G.
One of my favourite places to go in Oxford
A. K.
Well maintained, and good spacious park to enjoy. Worth visiting even for tourists. If you drive, there are not much parking spaces available.
S. B.
A beautiful area of nature in the middle of the city. Never too busy with lovely walks, a picturesque cricket pitch and the river running through.
M. B.
It’s a park, so... That said it’s a nice place to go, safe, clean, and offers a nice walk along the Cherwell. Great for a walk if you also happen to be visiting the nearby Pitt Rivers museum. And being Oxford it’s not really that far from the centre of town.
J. C.
Well maintained park, usually quite busy and rarely quiet.
J. O.
Good place for picnic with the family or just break from work. I use uni park for a dog walk every day. Also uni park is the best place if you are interested in photography.
M. J.
Beautiful park with a wide variety of healthy trees. We had a very pleasant walk around the perimeter path.
T. B.
Lovely park grounds nice place to sit and enjoy a picnic watch the punts up and down the river or just enjoy some peace and solitude can get busy with visitors but always a space to sit in summer some of the flower boarders are a delight to see and the college buildings are very interesting soak up some of the delightful Oxford history believe that there's a guided tour also available and in warmer weather spotted refreshments and snacks from vendors situated inside the grounds.
C. B.
Very cool place!
M. K.
The icecream here is great and the scenery is good also. I come here with my friends however the closing times are slightly annoying. The park is extensive and is easy to find good places to sit without being too close to others. The river is also fun but i don't beleive you can swim in there which is a shame
K. S.
Beautiful university and full of history
E. P.
Great place to chill our with a group of mates massive fields for relaxing and kicking a football around
J. L.
Beautiful park, well kept grounds, river Cherwell for punting/kayaking, wonderful for family & friends meetup and picnic especially during this lockdown period.
B. B.
'The Parks' has many attractive flower beds, tree lined paths with small, wood-like sections, a river running down the East side where people punt, a large pond full of ducks and other water birds, lots of benches, a beautiful sports pavilion which in the summer has a small cafe attached, and there is a public loo next door. The Parks offer long circular walks for anyone who wants to exercise. University members can apply to play tennis on the grass courts in the summer, when there are also cricket matches which attract spectators. Many University sports teams use the Parks for matches too.
A. M.
My fave place in Oxford. If you are blessed with a sunny day, there is nothing better than a stroll in this park. Perfect also for some relaxed jogging
N. H.
University Parks good pitches for sports, and these days for me would be more used for good walks along the River and through the shaded tree areas. Definitely worth a visit when in Oxford.
W. T.
Beautiful park. Wonderful trees and bushes. A marvellous place to walk, sit and feel at peace
C. Y.
Beautiful park with lots of nice trees and grass for physical activities. My children enjoyed their 3v3 football game
A. K.
Really nice place had some drinks on the field was amazing, but the weather we cold :( absolutely huge, gorgeous place!!!! Perfect for a family picnic or to go on a date with because the field is f*cking huge !!
M. H.
Lovely park and gardens. The atmosphere was vibrant and family friendly.
A. P.
Large park close to the centre of Oxford bordered by the river Cherwell. Ideal for relaxing, strolling around and picnics. Some circular jogging routes are well used.
T. S.
Lovely walks , so peaceful but not far from the city, clean and plenty of seating areas
C. F.
Excellent park. You can’t take bikes in so you don’t need to be as wary walking. Lots of open spaces even when there are university sports games happening.
V. J.
Great place to rest. It has everything the park suppose to have. River, sports pitches, lake, benches..... and you can see people play quidditch.
J. G.
Beautiful well maintained park with several sports spaces such as cricket nets.
g. w.
Really lovely family orientated park. Very clean and tidy
A. G.
Great place for families and picnics or if a game of cricket is on hours can be passed listening to ball hit bat. Lovely place to relax
G. B.
Yes yes yes I remember going here. It had some sort of cirkus then, but I didn't go as I was feeling a bit cheap and not childish enough. Without the cirkus the park would have been even nicer. Many dogs.
J. V. R. G.
Lovely park just a stroll away from the city centre, busy at lunch times on a sunny day with people eating outside or playing games, it is a great place to take the kids on a day out
g. a.
I love this place so much ,I wish they build a little playground for kids as well
L. A.
A little paradise for overbearing summer days (and we had quite a few this summer of 2018). Grab a beer (or two) a few good friends and enjoy one of the best parks in Oxford City.
A. C.
Great place for a morning run. Weather is nice, there are trees to the north and water to the east.
T. B.
May have been a lost dog running around ?
B.
Somewhere to walk on paths or grass, kick a football or enjoy other games, jog (No bikes in the park) and other exercise for you, children and dogs.
A place to contemplate, picnic, view the array of trees, plants, and shrubs or just watch punting from the river bank, sports, ducks and swan on the pond.
Easy access to abutting E side of the Rokiver Cherwell and Mesopotamia via which you can walk to Oxford centre over Magdalen Bridge or North to the Victoria Arms overlooking the river bank in Old Marston.
B. 8.
A nice natural park that hasn’t been over developed. Pleasant to wander around and enough room to play sport or find a quiet spot.
V. B.
Lovely parks and gardens I always try to visit when I am in Oxford.
K. S.
Very nice place, huge Park with lots of paths benches trees sports grounds it has access to the river
E. A.
Really nice open space, clean and tidy. With the added bonus of public toilets. Expensive parking is the reason for 4 and not 5 stars
M. J. R.
Wonderful. Landscape, lake ducks ,calm. A very Nice plce to read a book in silent and with nature everywhere. Go there.
J. P.
Lovely grounds, idealic walk
A. A. J.
Absolutely Beautiful. Relaxing and timeless. The experience is only ruined by the amount of dog mess left behind by selfish, lazy dog owners. Still...i would highly recommend
