J. L.A lovely park that I visited many time in the 1950's! Current park has a very nice community run cafe, fantastic play areas for children, and large area of grass for picnics and "running wild". Limited parking nearby, but its target customer is local community.

Kid area is fenced off so kids are safe from dogs.
Has an outside gym and basketball hoop.
D. S.Well kept rectangular park with seating, a cafe and a great children's play and picnic area. Also features a tennis court, netball area, outdoor gym, swing and outdoor ping pong table. Popular with dog walkers and local community

E. R.Used to go here loads when I lived in Southampton. Recently visited again and my daughter who is now much older than a toddler absolutely loved it. My little boy also loved it. Lots to explore and climb with good slides and loads of variety for all ages.It has features that are not often found on other playgrounds too. It's a rare find for a really great playground to also have toilets and a cafe! I miss it here.

P. G.A really nice park. It has got swings, zip line, big slides and many more activities for children and even some exercise units for adults. Has a nice cafe attached as well which offers ice creams and coffee. Children can easily spend a few hours here
S. K.We love this park! Great for smaller and older children (and there's a great little cafe with refreshments for the adults!) Spacious and fun, my three year old is becoming more adventurous and wanting to climb the bigger frames/slides! Plenty of benches and seating around. With the other activities on offer, (such as basketball hoops, tennis courts, climbing wall etc), you could easily spend a whole afternoon here!
T.Nice Park the kids have a lot to do ride bikes scooters and swings and zipping available too. Tennis courts just bring your own rackets and balls, managed to run 5km round the park without any hindrance, at all

L. W.Really lovely park. Plenty to to do for different ages. I took my 4yr old son today, happened to drive past it and stopped for half an hour. It seems really safe although there's lots of 'blind spots' with the high bushes and hilly bits for those who really worry. I was so impressed with that at 4.30 on a bank holiday Monday that the little community cafe was still open next to it. We'll definitely be heading back next time we drive through the area.

M. S.Great park. Daughter loves it. Modern playground equipment, large fields plus a nice little cafe. There's also some exercise equipment and rock climbing areas but I didn't use those areas.

D. H.Great park with cafe, dome swings are missing but I'm sure they will resolve that as the park is used a lot! The "water" features like many other parks no longer commissioned. There are some unique features of the park like bamboo rabbit run and multi slide extra large climbing frame and large zip wire. Single unisex public toilet (wheel chair accesible) attached to sode of the café. My 6 and 3 year old loved the visit and with on street parking nearby which is free for 2 hours makes it a good place to travel to. There is also a large field for ball games and bouldering (climbing) wall.

S. O.The kids favourite park in Hampshire bar none. They absolutely love it. It has a great atmosphere and feels safe too, I can stand on the raised part in the middle and see my three kids playing what ever they are doing. Coffee is always burned though, they set the temperature to ten times hotter than the sun. But some coffee is infinitely better than no coffee!

Plenty to do with a playpark, fenced off green and a cafe at one end and a basketball hoop, climbing walls and tennis courts the other.
It also has a great long loop path that's perfect for practicing with bikes,scooters,kateboards etc
If you're in the area it's a nice surprise just off the high street if you go via Church Street.
j. g.Great little park. Play area is really good, one of my sons favourite. Cafe is nice and the other facilities and equipment are all of a good standard and regularly maintained.

M. T. J. M.Very big local park, a nice big size field for activites lots of room and a then a gym/basketball area followed by a park the kids will love plenty of room they did a great job and a good little cafe with toilets and food/drink awesome local park
E. H.Nice and pleasant park in Shirley Southampton. A nicely equipped play area for the younger ones, in non pandemic times a very nice Cafe with a good selection of drinks and snacks, tennis court, outside gym, and a small field to play games. This area is also used for summer fetes and other events. I've lost one star as after dusk there are groups of youths that hang around and that can be a little unsettling.
D. T.The whole park is very clean. The children's play area is well maintained and has all sorts of interesting activities. A few benches to sit and people watch or to relax, 2 tennis courts, a ping-pong table and a lovely big bit of grass for small ball games or for just laying in the sun. The cafe is quite cheap, we only tried the hot drinks though so I can't comment on food. They have a nice baby chair though.
T.Great all round park, bring your own ping pong, tennis rackets & basketball for the free facilities. Small cafe for hot and cold food and drinks.

If not in lockdown, the rating would be more as the facilities are very good for a local park.

J. S.If you take the over all size of the space, you would not think it amounted to much. As they saying goes, dynamite comes in small packages. There is a good size grass area used at various days/times by dog walkers, footballers, weekend family picnics. There is a sporty area with two tennis courts, some keep fit equipment, table tennis table. There is a lovely play park for the kids securely fenced in. The cafe looks lovely, I have spied those cakes though the window, but alas, not yet had chance to go in. They are really lovely and leave water bowels out for the dogs. We have only ever encountered friendly people. Lovely space in such a large city.

A great open grass space, a lovely play park for the children, a little cafe, tennis courts, climbing wall, outdoor gym equipment and a path for joggers or people who just fancy a relaxing stroll around the exterior of the whole park. With its picturesque trees and plants too, its a place for the whole family to come and enjoy

K. H.Love this place,friendly staff ,nothing too much hassle and although cheap basic food selections it serves its purpose... my only suggestion would be that proper sausages be used instead of skinny tinned hot dogs in the roll which is far to large for the hot dog itself

S.Always a great place to be with the family or friends, the staff at the cafe located there are friendly and polite. 👍 Price are what you expect from a cafe run by volunteers and the park itself is a nice place to leave the little one or walk with your dog's of course depending on the weather which we can't control.
Definitely recommend this place. 👌

L.Now im not a child, but i am at heart and i love this play area 😂 and its got a great big field for walking dogs (although i actually walk my rabbit here 😂) great place to take children too for hours, lovely cafe that served drinks and light bites. However at night ( not that you would take a young child at night anyway) it isn't very good, teenagers drinking on the field and in the play area, i went one night for a walk and a group of boys had set fire to the palm trees :( wish people would respect what little places like this we have left

R. W.Amazing park for all ages. My boys who are 2 and 4 can handle all of the obstacles without problem but they are monkeys and park junkies.
Can get a bit over crowded on a nice day but we love this park even when it's raining sometimes.
S. M.Very lovely park with lots for them to do and plenty of space to run around with a ball or practise riding bikes or scooters. The climbing wall is always a firm favourite with my children. The cafe is nice but quite pricey so we always bring a picnic or snacks from home. The only problem is you can't see every part of the park from one place, there are lots of hills, a river valley and a bamboo forest and kids can easily walk out of the park in seconds, making it incredibly difficult to keep track of more than one child.
A. B.This is hidden away in the back end of Southampton and is an absolute gem.
The local army of volunteers tend the fantastic gardens, there is an outdoor gym, basketball court, band stand, playing field, zip line, children's play area, art installations and a great value cafe.
On top of a busy calendar of events which are hugely popular.
If you have a dog then take it with you.
You wont regret taking the time to find this jewel in the crown of Southampton.

M. C.You can tell a lot of money was spent on this park. Some really great facilities for the kids of all ages, and it is completely free. l bet it looks stunning in the summer months when the water is flowing down the water play. I'm yet to try the little cafe, but even that looks appealing.
m. m.StJames park is a lovely place for everyone. Over the years it has got better and better and now has an exciting play area for children, which includes a zip wire and a climbing wall. There is a small cafe too. It is sometimes difficult to park when it's good weather

K. S.We love St. JAMES park. It's always busy with a lot of diffrent people. Your kids can climb, use swing, slide and a lot of more. They can use high climbing construction and slide. If It's hot enough they can play in the water. It's a shop here with toilets and you can eat here or organize your kids birthday party. If you have dog you can go with him (not on playground) but to park. It's a lot of space to play, have picnic etc. It's also good for exercie. It's not to many parking places but If you can wait you find something. It's safe and clean with a lot of plants and flowers. It's look a little bit tropical and It's my kids favourite park.
S. “. W. Y. B.As expected for a local park in suburbia, with as an extra a lovely café, tennis courts and great outdoors play. Only downside is that you can't quite see through the whole play are, so need to stay close to kids as opposed to give them free rein.

T. S.When I was a child this was The Rec. Now it's a bit more up market and is called St James Park. There are swings and slides and a cafe . Basically it's just a very very pleasant place to let yo,ur dog and kids expend their excess energy. I loved it as a child and there's no reason to alter my opinion now. I used to be one of the screaming kids running around, now I sit on a bench and watch the kids and dogs letting off steam and enjoying themselves.

J. S.This is a really good place to meet your friends and have a good time. The staff are really friendly and always do everything they can to help you feel comfortable and happy. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a fun time with their friends. The wait time is low and the drinks are really good. Excellent prices and everyone is always lovely to be around at this plave.
