Reviews of Biddulph Grange Country Park
S. V.
An absolutely beautiful place to visit with plenty of nooks and crannies for children to explore. The wooden adventure trail and the second hand book shop really adds to the experience and the cafe serves up a great cup of coffee and good food. Would highly recommend a visit.
b. h.
It's such a lush park. Kept beautifully. No litter and perfect for dogs. Went in the heatwave early and it's so cool under the trees in the shade. Perfect for doggies and nice family walks
O. A.
Good walking paths, wear good quality walking boots as it can be a bit muddy during wet weather. Good for dog walks as well. Lovely family walks. Looking forward to discovering more of the paths over time. Has good parking spaces. There's also a cafe. Lovely for pictures. If going after 3 at winter time take a flashlight as the sun sets it'll get dark and you may need it if you stay up to 5pm onwards.
K. F.
Beautiful short woodland walk with lots of moss and streams. Not too busy. Little cafe there for a coffee. Friendly staff Clean toilets.
S. C.
This was a real find for us, we couldn't get into the National Trust gardens with our dog and so went to the Country Park. We (particularly our dog) loved the Himalayan Walk, the lake and park land. We will certainly be returning as it's well worth a visit.

Lovely place with lots of trees and paths to explore. The lake is stunning and tranquil. Cleanest toilets I've ever seen at any country park so whoever is responsible for this you deserve recognition!. I will be back to explore further and hope the cafe is open on my next visit
G. H.
A good walk around here takes about an hour, and is a couple of miles if you do the full walk. Lots of dog walkers as an ideal place for dogs, but ensure they're on the lead when around the wildlife and other dog walkers.
If you don't like climbing stairs, but want to do the longer walk, go anticlockwise, and then you can walk up the gradual hill to the cave, and back down the steps on the Himalayan walk
As a note, the Country Park is not Biddulph Grange Gardens! The Country Park is free and dog friendly, the Gardens are National Trust and a separate place nearby.
T. P.
Great place for a walk, plenty of trails, unlikely to get lost plus a lake which comes with ducks and geese! Also, dog friendly and plenty of water ways and interesting features. Highly recommend Biddulph Grange country park which is free to enter and has ample parking.
A. T.
A lovely relaxing place, surrounded by trees and sounds of birds, running water too. What more do you need in a lovely walk. You can stroll along the blue walk if you have children or fancy the slower pace or there are red and black walks with climbs and steps. I just wandered and sat sometimes enjoying the peace and the wildlife.
K. J. G.
I love this area it's so beautiful 😍 great for physical exercise and spiritual calm.
If you want to park in the disabled carpark, make sure you have a RADAR key, because the access gate is only opened when the cafe is open. Very dog friendly and lots of friendly dogs with their humans 🙂
s. f.
We walked with our family 2 children and a dog with 4 adults. Weather was perfect. Finished the walk with refreshments at the cafe. Enjoy it very much. Will definitely go again.
A. A.
Great place to walk the dog . Follow the Himalayan walk..
C. K.
Great place to walk and relax. There are benches around the lake and picnic areas scattered around. Notices describe areas of interest and the waterfalls and woods are wonderful
D. J.
A wonderful garden full of stunning plants, the Dahlia walk, flowers and bushes, especially the Rhododendron, with a lake, views of the house, a woodland walk, the garden has different areas each with it's own individual character, and above all run and cared for by lovely dedicated people.
E. C.
This was a stunning location. Despite the rain we still had a really relaxing walk around. The park sports caves and ponds so whatever you are into im sure you will love it.
C. F.
Absolutely STUNNING. such a beautiful place to take the dogs for a good run whilst having a romantic walk around with your partner .. perfect threw out the day if the weather is good for a picnics .. would definitely recommend here for familys .. dog walks and couples .. in defo going again 🖤
D. V.
A good walk on mostly well kept paths. The walks are generally not good for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Some of the routes are quite steep and in some places the path becomes guesswork. Nevertheless it gives a good cardio workout.
K. p.
Amazing place. Great for a wander round. Not very pram friendly in places but it is possible to take one. If you can explore right at the top the cave. Very peaceful weekdays.
A. G.
Beautiful walk around the lake. Saw a cormorant on the island. The colour of the leaves still on the trees was wonderful.
P. D.
Great walk for people and dogs ,cafe open but check Web site. Good food ideal for kids to explore.
l. s.
This is a beautiful area to walk in, lots of different routes through the woods and round the pool, no matter what season.
S. B.
What can I say. It was a beautiful park. It was also where I proposed to my fiance. Definitely worth the visit. The themed gardens are so great!
G. S.
Great for walks, especially child and dog friendly!Highly Recommend
L. R.
Nice experience and light walking track through thick trees and along flowing spring water, With a man made cave adding a little touch 🙂
K. H.
Beautiful woodland walk, short or long, bubbling stream/river running through and a pond/small lake to walk around.
C. B.
Lovely well kept country park. Steep in some places but very enjoyable. Not wheelchair friendly. One dog bin on approach to park but locals know to leave a waste bag on side of path and collect on way back.
I go weekly and never see any rubbish.
Small waterfalls to photograph.
j. c.
This is a jewel in the Crown absolutely beautiful. One of the best gardens I have ever been in.
V. G.
Very enjoyable picturesque walk with a lovely stream running through the park. Dogs love paddling in the stream alongside many children.
s.
Lovely walks here through woods and streams/ponds. Signposted walks. Toilets but not sure if any cafe here wkends.
S. B.
I walk my dogs 3 times a week up biddulph grange it's really nice but I'm finding there's alot more people not putting dogs on leads which can be a worry.
J. H.
A nice place with some nice walks, a good place to take the dog. The cafe is nice to have but a little expensive but can you really complain when they sell snugburys!
E. M.
Lovely walk with woods, stream and a nice pool with grassy area to sit and have a picnic. Great spot for walking the dog.
C. P.
Just joined National Trust. Our first visit, would highly recommend and will definitely be going back.
P. P.
Nice Park. Only visited a small part of it but it was a good walk and dog friendly
C. B.
Great variation of walk routes, free toilets and parking and some great scenery.
J. N.
Lovely woodland walk on gentle slope.
Great lakeside area perfect for a game of frisbee or catch with your dog. Or bring a picnic and a blanket and enjoy.
A. T.
Lovely country park. Waterfalls, old boating lake, cave and beautiful beech woods. Historically linked to National Trust Biddulph Grange Gardens.
H. M.
What a lovely country park! Numerous walks through the woods, a lake with an island and a cave to boot. Loved it!
S. B.
Another treasure on the doorstep! Good easy access for parking and for those less mobile. A great space for communing with the outdoors.
A. B.
A good circular walk with a slight incline with a spots of interest. Not wheelchair friendly in some sections. A great cafe for refreshments and snacks.
K. S.
Lovely woodland walks and safe place to let your dogs free off lead.
A. C.
Beautifully rural, lots of wildlife to see, even what seems like a cormorant sat high in the tree above the fishing pool
S. w.
Great place to take the kids and mutt; up and down walk, see something different every time I go.
S. H.
Lovely walk, lots of route options available. Lovely little cafe which gives free dog treats 😊
H. L.
Lovely walk despite being wet. Lots of clear paths to be able to enjoy a nice walk. Great for mushrooms hunters too!
C. W.
A fantastic hidden gem! It's perfect for dog walking or just an afternoon walk! I would 100% recommend it for people looking for somewhere new to scenic walk.
G. B.
Beautiful place to visit for a walk. Being surrounded by nature along the walk made my day :)
J. C.
Lovely place for a walk/run/chill.
Nice scenery, not too challenging!
T. W.
Absolutely beautiful woodland area complete with lovely big fish pond enroute and various walks of varying distance with a babbling stream and lots of old and beautiful trees of many species. Gorgeous place to walk the dog and relax in nature and big enough to not get too crowded. Especially stunning in the autumn!
S. M.
Love the trails. Can be steep in places and no wide vistas, but great woodland and a photogenic lake.
C. B.
Regular dog walking spot for me. Good in all weather. The wooded areas make a nice cover from the rain but in the sun you get to enjoy the views by the lake and in the fields. The cows can sometimes be grazing in the fields but can walk by them with dogs on leads or under control. If you would rather avoid, there are plenty of walking routes round the park.
Child and buggy friendly routes, with parts of the rivers good for children to play in if they wish. Ample free parking in the car park.
S. M.
Always a nice walk especially in summer and have a picnic with family.
L. H.
Lovely place to walk, nice clean toilets
A. S. A. T.
Amazing garden... feels like you travel from country to country! Beautiful!
P. W.
Nice walk, 3 distance routes to choose from. Peaceful surroundings
R. L.
Part of the Biddulph Grange estate that is administered by the National Trust. Beautiful, well renowned gardens. Great for easy walking, dogs welcome. Two years after my first review, it remains a tranquil environment for walkers, fishermen and people looking for an easy tranquil walk.
D. B.
Have been visiting this place for years love it.
d. m.
Fantastic place.with massive monkey puzzle trees
s. c.
Nice little walk around with different paths for different abilities
A. S.
Fantastic place, will visit again in summer
J. H.
Beautiful park. Popular but cheery.
S. t.
Lovely place to visit for a nice little walk out.
E. S.
Beautiful walk. Dog friendly Cafe.
J. A.
Really enjoyed our visit to Biddulph Grange today with the Chinese New year
J. S.
Really enjoyed this visit, May a good time to visit to see the Country Park looking fresh and beautiful with all the fresh greenery now out, and good weather today too to explore the various trails.
C. C.
It was a bit blowy today but a really nice walk then into the the hideaway cafe for coffee and a toasted sandwich
I. J.
Lovely place to strool with "pick your own" at the entrance and clean public toilets
P. T.
Great walks of differing difficulty, though none of them are massively long. Lovely nature though.
M.
Lovely walk any time of year. Very popular with dog walkers. Can get a little soggy underfoot, but never too bad.
N. P.
Lovely park
S. W.
There are a number of walks available around this park some are quite hilly but there are some walks suitable for people in wheelchairs. The paths can be uneven and there are some bridges over streams. Great place for walking the dog.
M. E.
Beautiful place to be.. Very tranquil.. Onsite parking.. Toilets.. Disabled access and parking.. Diferrent grades of walks available from easy to hard.. Plenty of beautiful pinic spots and evan a pool to fish in aswell as a cave at the top of a very steep hill.lol 👍👍
D. M.
Beautiful autumnal walk - such a lovely place to visit.
S. B.
At the moment, you have to pre book a half hour arrival time via the National Trust website. Friendly staff. Beautiful gardens to walk round. One way system in place. Can walk the long route (1 1/2 hr) or the short route (45mins). Plenty of places to sit and have a picnic or visit the cafe. Very enjoyable visit.
N. S. C. W.
Brilliant place to walk around, with family and dogs too, if you choose. Pathways are easy to follow and don't get too muddy and wet during downpours or winter months. If you trek through the park's entire pathway you'll eventually come across the top level which you access via 15 -20 steps when you've crossed the small bridge over the stream. Carry on through the wooded area (pathway) and it will eventually bring you out at the top end of the fishing pool area where you'll find an open field next to the pool. I plan to take family members up to this area in the summer to have a picnic in the open field after our walkabout. I didn't see picnic tables on my last visit, but we'll take a blanket for sitting on in the open field next to the fishing pool. Incidentally, if you so choose, you can picnic on the provided benches which are located near to the main entrance and car park. Whatever you choose to do I'm sure you'll enjoy a good few hours in Biddulph's own little country park. Enjoy!
M. M.
Had a fantastic walk, Felt like I was in an enchanted wood.
A. P.
Beautiful place to walk around!
P. D. C.
Good to get out during Covid. A bit muddy underfoot, but nice. Car park busy, but lots of space for walkers.
The Hideaway is a great place for drinks, cakes, snacks & Ice Creams. Welcomes dogs and walkers too.
K. B.
Love this place and its right on our doorstep, just beautiful!
D. A.
FREE parking and entry.
Lovely place.
L. P.
Pleasant walk, nice lake, very popular with dog walkers
s. j.
Lovely short walk around the lake ,or you can do a longer one up the hills on footpaths, dog friendly and quiet with liads of nature .
D. M.
A beautiful well maintained park with a lovely café. Can be busy during the good weather
K. B.
The shady areas are a must in this hot weather and access to lots of water helps the dogs
M. L. C.
Amasing garden. Not pram friendly. So bring a wrap if you come with a newborn.
S. G.
NOTE This is NOT BIDDULPH GRANGE GARDEN. Several reviews on here are for the wrong place! The Country Park is free and managed by Staffs Moorlands Council It is not the same place as the nearby Biddulph Grange Garden, which is run by the National Trust, with it's associated entrance fees.
T. S.
Lovely gardens lots of places to explore if you have kids don't miss the woodland walk on the way to the urn. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There are lots of steps so it is not really suitable for pushchairs but kids will love exploring all the hidden tunnels and bridges.
L. E.
Love it. Car park across the road and cute little cafe on site too. Such a peaceful place.
H. L.
Loved this place, lovely walk and picnic
d. h.
Nice scenery, good place to walk around. This was our first visit here. We will return I am sure.
J. C.
A fairly small country park however a beautiful place for a quiet country walk. Great place for picnics in the summer relaxing by the pond and plenty of room for the kids to run around and explore. Warning If you should visit and its been raining make sure you take a good pair of walking boots or wellies as it can get slippery under foot in places. :-)
R. R.
Great for a good day out. Plenty to see and do
C. B.
Lovely walk. Not too long so decent for kids. A few picnic spots too.
J. W.
Beautifully place to explore for all ages. Some paths are steep depending on your ability level. I found the Himalayan Trail v difficult under foot at its steepest point but that might just be me.. I'm a scaredy cat!
M. J.
Absolutely stunning park with ample parking spaces and easy to navigate to. We walked in the Himalayan walk which is very twisty and bendy path as you can imagine from the name itself. For munching and brunching, cafeteria was open and a very good story to eat if need be. Cyclists path is amazing too. Fishing lake has very nicely spaced out wooden benches to relax and enjoy the view... absolutely gorgeous and so peaceful..
K. L.
Pleasantly surprised by this park. Was lovely! Just needs more signs. Had no idea where we were going - which was a nice adventure for us. But an elderly woman ahead was lost and unsure where the big lake was - we couldn't help as there were no boards around or signs of direction.
H. B.
Great place for a lovely walk!
k. j.
Lovely place for a walk, dogs love it here and a nice place for a snack if you want one in the cafe
A. L.
A very popular place for dog walkers but its huge so you can walk a lot of it without seeing anyone else. Lots of different walk options of varying length and difficulty. Be careful when the ground is wet though, some of the pathways and steps get very slippery.
K. H.
Brilliant place for kids. The one way system works really well, allowing kids to explore whilst ensuring we didn't miss anything. Gardens are looking beautiful.
G. C.
Going to NT Biddulph but realised a council woodland area with interesting walks was free and the Yorkshire came out in me. Lovely woodland nice walk killed an hour. Shame tearoom was closed but it was a Monday
A. B.
The Biddulph Grange Garden is National Trust, which is worth a visit although you have to pay to get in. Parking at the Country Park is free and it has a fairly decent sized car park. There are refreshments and toilets, but these were closed when we visited, due to Covid-19. There are a good range of walks, from short up to a couple of miles, through woods by a stream; past the lake with its stone boathouse; and through more open areas. Hilly in parts, but a lovely walk.
J. G.
Really nice park, walking through woods & lakes. Great for walking dogs and there are some challenging hills. Many different paths can be taken and you can walk. There is also a cafe which is open, although it's not certain how frequently and at what times.
R. G.
A small country park with a good range of footpaths, some wheelchair accessible. Plenty of birdlife, with plenty of different habitats, woods, stream, lake and surrounded by farmland. There are links to footpaths around the area for longer walks. The visitor centre is not open at the moment. A sign says not open for spring and summer because extensive building work required. The public toilets are open though
A. M.
Beautiful park to walk around but was a very cold day.
M. F.
There are many trails to choose from, and covers all ages. It is certainly a delight to walk around a well kept country park. The only downside is to find every now and then dog poo bags left on the grounds somewhere. I do wish the minority of dog owners doing this would act more responsibly to avoid any deseas that is pointed out on the notice board.
p. B.
Excellent, nice walks and free car park.
j. e.
Lovely walk. Quite busy with dogs and people. Free car park. Ice cream van. Park free, gardens you need to pay.
T. F.
Great for an afternoon out with the dog or kids. Easy walking paths that are marked out well and has toilets on site. Nice lake to sit next to and many benches and picnic benches dotted about to enjoy a picnic
H. J.
Lovely place to visit. Enjoyable walks around the extensive grounds. Nice refreshments served outside in the sun. Well worth a vist.
A. M.
Wonderful day out! Never been so close to a nuthatch before!
J. D.
Nothing short of amazing, this is our local country park and in all honesty we rarely go to any other parks unless it's the weekend. We usually see a new part of it everytime we visit because it's so big, there are a few walks you can take so there's always something refreshing!
G. M.
A lovely garden to look round with lots of interesting tunnels and caves to keep children's interest. The adventure trail through the woods is great for encouraging kids to walk further.
A. S.
15/08/2021
Had a lovely afternoon out with my sister the weather was abit dull but the rain stayed of till we were leaving then the heavens opened up
This is the first time we've both been when the gardens are in full bloom so I have loads photos to up load
The gardens were beautiful full of colour & today was very busy which was nice to see everyone back out doors & enjoying life after lockdown
A. M.
Gorgeous walk around lovely clean toilets too
d.
Lovely day out so beautiful
A. F.
Beautiful quite park to stroll round
R. H.
Himalayan Walk.
Beautiful lake.
Good well laid out pathways.
a. k.
Lovely place chill and relax.
A. T.
Good organization of pathways by volunteers as we come out of CV19 restrictions.
Regarding wheelchairs, access is fine including toilets and entrance and parking. However this is not a garden designed for wheelchairs.
J. L.
Very nice, fairly small country park. Ideal for dog walks. Has a small lake, shop (mostly open just at weekends), toilets, etc. Offers plenty of different walking routes through the park. Neighbour to the famous Biddulph Grange Garden.
P. S.
Excellent for an autumnal country walk. Great paths and nice woodland with a pool at the top.
Nice stream with bridges crisscrossing the stream.
Ample parking.
J. d.
Some beautiful wallks and great for the kids. However, there were a lot of steps so some walks wouldn't be suitable for wheelchair users or for those with a mobility problam. But the gardens were beautiful an i would recomed you go.
L. M.
We had a lovely walk in beautiful woodland surroundings. Very little sunshine and lots of mud, but that's the story of May 2021 isn't it?
J. C.
Really like this please, very pretty and a great place to take the dog - and free!! Really good dog friendly café too.
C. C.
Brilliant walks and trails
S. S.
We frequently love having a walk around here with a stream and lake and woodland to walk around it is beautiful on a sunny afternoon. Great for the whole family as there are shorter and longer walks available.
K. M.
Really nice place to go for a walk. The new cafe is an added bonus.
A. R.
Very enjoyable as always in a lovely sunny but cool day. Great fun for the kids 👍
D. C.
Lovely place for a welly walk. Take my dog most days and think it's great
K. F.
Beautiful place, amazing history
R. R.
Amazing place for an afternoon walk. Free parking and such a vast place to stay socially distance during these times. Fabulous & my first visit, I'll be back
A. B.
Amazing garden had a wonderful day yesterday with my partner just adventuring around it is £10 to get in plus £6 parking but because we will go to places like this often we decided to take the national trust membership of £36 each it's open until half 5 and parking untill 6pm has a cafe open untill half 4 but you can easily get lost in time just admiring the serenity of the garden some areas were closed when we went but from what we saw it was amazing well worth a trip if you are In the Staffordshire area we will be back next weekend to try the tea room I didn't see many dog walkers around but a few runners and I can see why. If you wish to go go now with the weather becoming really nice.
J. H.
The gardens are beautiful, the staff and volunteers were very friendly. It was brilliant discovering all the different parts of the gardens, I had as much fun as my 5 yr old daughter!
B. P.
Toilets open and cleaned regularly. Shame cafe has been closed for years tho..natural woods with stream and lake for young and old to enjoy nature.
B. D.
Nice place to walk your dog
T. L.
Just comparing to surrounding area would be a 5 star I'm sure there's some lovely country parks around the world and I'm sure I'll a find a 5 star one day, I know I gave the tip 5 stars but for a tip it's spot on, service location to me and the surrounding area.... anyway its a nice park and some interesting history, get yourself there
C. W.
Another wonderful time exploring with the Grandkids. Although there were lots of cars in the carpark, there was plenty of room for everyone. The kids particularly loved seeing the huge fish, Bill the Buffalo, Fred the Frog, and thoroughly enjoyed all the wooden structures for them to climb and walk on. We are already talking about a return visit. Great place!
m. 2.
If you enjoy walking in a wonderful woodland, complete with a lake with lots of ducks and their adorable little ones this is definitely a place to visit
A. D.
Beautiful place for a day out! Lovely walks, picnic area, & cafe, lovely gardens,
N. C.
Lovely countryside walks, with Biddulph Brook running through the vallley. Its free parking but get in early as its very popular.
I. R.
Very nice walking area very muddy at the time I went but am sure it is beautiful in the summer ,very popular with dog walkers
I. S.
Great place for a walk, but be careful, there are some very steep hillsides. I nearly slipped down one of them. And it wouldn't have ended well!
k. s.
Fantastic place to walk, take the dog, grab a snack and a coffee, excellent
L. H.
Nice country park, with onsite parking. But too many dogs off lead running around and out of control.
D. R.
Great place for walking the dog.
C. H.
Lovely walk again today, we're so lucky to have this on our doorstep.
G. J.
Nice little country park. The visitor centre and cafe is really nice, very good value and run by volunteers. Well recommended. Good for kids and toddlers. They even have a selection of toys for them to play with.
a. g.
Nice walk and a good cafe.
m. r.
Lovely country walks for everybody with a brilliant cafe at start and finish
P. C.
Great place with several walks shortish to long. All can end up at the lake which has an island at one end. We did it in pouring rain and thoroughly enjoyed it.
S. T.
Lovely place for a dog walk
N. T.
Our favourite place to walk locally. Beautiful walks through the woodland and kids love it. Great for dogs

S. T.
Very pretty, lots of waymarked walks. Good for dog walking. Toilets and cafe currently shut. Free parking.
M. H.
National Trust. A wonderful garden extravaganza superbly maintained. Great fun for all ages. Now with a cafe and a tea room. A full half day at least.

My wife and I visited in autumn a bit late for the flowers but due to mild weather we saw most of the displays of wonderful flowers, the pool is beautiful with some large ornamental carp which seem to be quite tame taking food from various people, there are some beautiful old trees especially the monkey puzzle trees which were the tallest I have seen in the UK, there are all sorts of different artistic little sites portraying different parts of the world, we will be going back again in the summer, hopefully with friends as its quite a long way from our home, if you like all sorts of flowers common and rare you will love it here.
