Reviews of Rough Tor Car Park
Absolutely stunning walk up to the top of rough tor. Plenty of parking, wild ponies, sheep, cows, birds and a view to die for looking west to brown Willy.
It's a car park at the base of Roughtor ? Easy to get to.
Lovely setting, only a short walk to the trail that leads up the Tor, which is about a 1mile hike.
Room for about 20 cars. Check out the Charlotte Dymond memorial to the right of the stone bridge, erected at the murder site of this poor girl. Google the full story in the Cornwall Guide.
Perfect location to walk up Brown Willy and Rough Tor. Very narrow road on the way in, probably unsuitable for a large motor home. Be mindful of the large pot holes on the way into the carpark. Parking is free but it's only a small carpark so I would imagine it gets full quickly during peak tourist season.
Free of charge and right at the base of Rough Tor and the Moor. Ideal place to park.
Free to park, probably enough room for 15-20 cars. No toilets. Road down quite narrow, as many are in Cornwall
The first day of summer and what a cracking start it is around here shorts on and getting my push bike ready for a good day out started off at Davidow and went to Rough Tor only about five miles.
A few steep hills to pedal up/walk up and into the small unkept car park you be alright in a small van but it is a bit rough with potholes and even some of the cars were grounding out.
Anyway, it was well worth the effort getting there the walk up to the top was an easy hike although, after all the rain and snow we have had it was quite wet and boggy the views across the moors were great and the rock formation and the rock stacks were amazing.
when coming back down to the carpark by the stream if you look over to the left there is a monument to a girl that was murdered at the spot where it stands this happened on April 14th, 1844 the story goes that she was friends with two boys and the one that they hung for the crime might of been the innocent one.
Below are a few photos of the top of Rough Tor, along with a photo of the monument and a copy of the inscription on the monument.
"This monument is erected by Public subscription in Memory of Charlotte Dymond who was Murdered hereby Matthew Weekes on Sunday, April 14, 1844."
Just a small car park. No facilities. Easy accessible from / to local small town. Access to open Moorland to Rough Tor, Brown Willy and beyond!
Great 👍for a walk with the bogs and the view's are brilliant. Plus the car park is free
No facility's but no pesky ticket machine a rarity in Cornwall these days, not to many parking spaces might get tight on a nice day or weekend
Excellent carpark.. as long as you can find it. We used SatNav, but it's much easier to look on a map and see it's a straight road from Camelford rather than the tiny roads SatNav may want to take you!
Good free car park for the easiest route up to Roughtor, it’s quite rugged at entrance so lowered cars need not apply.
Has to be 5 stars for a free car park. Great spot to park for hiking around Showery Tor, Brown Willy Tor & Rough Tor. Stunning views over the moors. Two reservoirs can be seen. Great for picnics, walking, hiking & kids. Was a bit windy up on the high points.
Busy car park....but hey it's free....nasty pothole developing at the entranceway. Awesome place to walk the Tors and see the murmurations
Free car park at the base of Rough Tor. Fits 20-30 cars. Perfect spot for a short walk
Brilliant to still have the occasional free car park. Park sensibly and don't abuse it! Brilliant access to Bodmin Moor for Rough Tor and the highest point Brown Willy.
Good location for rough Tor and brown Willy, plus it's free
Great walk lovely views. Pretty easy walking. Mind the pothole as you enter the car park!
Beautiful place but needs more parking and more bins for waste.
Free parking. Superb views. No facilities. Lovely stream for paddling in!
It's wild and remote. No facilities on site. Easy walk up the Tory from here
Nice to park for free would be great if some of the visitors parked more considerable to others
It's well worth a climb to the top of the Tor on a clear day to catch a glimpse of both North and South coasts of Cornwall from the same spot.
Nice walk up to Rough Tor, with the added bonus of a massive Starling roost in the winter!
So relaxing, releases stress, glorious views free parking so low cost day out. Van to buy a cup of tea and a bite to eat. Highly recommendable
This is a free car park ,great for walking the rough tor
It's free and serves as the base for hiking up to Roughtor and Brown Willy. On a slope, potholed and gravely. Can be packed on popular days but easy enough to park on the road. No facilities.
Beautiful area to go for a family/dog walk
The car park provides easy access to Rough Tor. There are no other facilities in the car park.
Fabulous moorland views very windy on top of Tor
Its free which is great but it is small and always full, there is some parking on the side of the road prior to the car park so if you see a space there I would grab it as most people drive down to the car park, realise there are no spaces so end up coming back up to the roadside parking, if you do this you could lose that last space. Top top, if people are parked on the side of the road then the car park is most likely full so grab your space.
The perfect place to park your car before exploring Rough Tor and Brown Willy - both within easy reach for the reasonably fit. No facilities at the car park.....but magnificent views of Rough Tor and Showery Tor.
Free car park. Great access to both rough tor and brown willy. Also a great start to the entire national park
Used as a base for day walks or scouts events. Road can be hairy if busy on a nice day.
A car park for parking cars. Not particularly great under foot for people who have trouble getting around, but the view of Rough Tor is amazing and it is a brilliant place to start your walk / hike on the moor.
The roads to it are a bit tight and there are no bins, so dog walkers have left their little bags in the trees to the north.
Lovely day out good walk
An out of the way place with a pleasant up-down 45 minute walk to the highest point in Cornwall. Slopping, gravel car park with about 20 spaces. Free of charge. Straight road access with a short steep hill.
Seems a bit weird rating a car park but here goes. It is run by the Forestry Commission and there is no charge to park. The surface is a bit rocky but not a serious problem. The car park provides access to a forest walk, where it appears dogs can be let off the lead but there is fencing to prevent dogs running into the open tor, where sheep graze and dogs need to be kept on the lead.
As you would expect it gives close access to rough tor and brown Willy. Basic car park. No toilet but there are some trees near by! Excellent place to have a walk from.
azcarparts go this one is fairly typical although the surface is not very smooth the options you have once you're parked up to head over to the many tools in the area including rough Tor and the highest peak in Cornwall brown willy. The car park is at the end of a very long dead end road so is unlikely to attract people who might want to break into your car because it is such a long way away and there is only one way out.
The obvious place to park ( free) for the tramp up to Rough Tor and Brown Willie.
Brilliant free car park, space for roughly 15 cars. Surface is uneven, but cars with default suspension height will not encounter issues.
The car park allows direct access to the trodden path leading to rough tor.
If you live or are visiting CORNWALL and have decent health and the weather is nice... Visit rough tor. Having walked several of the tors in Devon I have to say the Cornish are the best ones. Beautiful panoramic views await you at the top and no less than three tors to walk. This really gives you a different perspective of Cornwall even if you've lived here for an entire life. One of the seven wonders of Cornwall for sure. ....Go for a wee before you set off though..
Grandchildren went right up to the top, so did Grandpa. Great views all round. Think I deserve a pint.
A great car park for walking on Roughtor and Brown Willy. There are a few potholes so it is a little rough under foot. The views are stunning, I would definitely recommend a visit.
Great spot to park if you are following the Charlotte Dymond murder trail; the monument is about 15 meters to the right of the granite 'clapper bridge'. Erosion and thick mud can make it hard to get to the monument, so wear wellies.
Beyond, a steady climb to Rough Tor and the ancient Neolithic ring of Showery Tor make for epic views across the landscape, taking in Bude, Tintagel and Dartmoor.
Peaceful Tranquil and beautiful.
Easy climb from car park. Fantastic views if weather kind and interesting rock formations.
No facilities but that is to be expected given location. Plenty of spaces for all walkers although I imagine in summer it could be full
Good car park but might get be full because is small. But good access.👍
Beautiful, stunning and harsh place with breathtaking views, but make sure your prepared for unpredictable weather and bring your own food and drinks.
Quiet national Trust car park on the edge of Bodmin, good access to Rough Tor. Fairly long, narrow, road to approach from main road
Went on a trip and the public used a toilet a school had HIRED for the kids and the public used it making kids who needed to get on the bus wait way to long so they had to travel back to school bursting to go to the toilet
Free car park. Beautiful scenery. Lots of walks
Beautiful walk and views . Free car park. Grate for dog walk on lead.
Love this walk, so much s p a c e
Decent free car park, right next to the mountain.
A little bit on the small side..... But if you get here early enough, you'll be able to park.... This car park is free of charge also!
Ideal parking area free of charge and great starting place for walking the moor
Decent car park for doing Brown Willy.
Free to park 😎
Good place to chill.if you like walking this is a great place to walk up that Hill to see history all about you. Viewing from the top is something else. WOW
Bit blowy and overcast when we went but still fantastic scenery.
When you get to the top place a rock on the pile.
Full of very deep potholes, but they can be avoided. It's a free car park, happy days!
Fairly standard car park, lots of places to go walking from here.
It's a bog standard car park - the location however is outstanding. Often hard to find a space
It's a car park, it's free.... the climb up Rough Tor is well worth the effort!
Great views and walk out the way in the fresh air,
Come rain or shine.
Don't forget your flask and a snack,,,, : )
It's a car park in beautiful location great approach road kids will love it
Great stopping point for wild moorland walks. But do not expect any facilities.
perfectly good moorland carpark simple but free
Great walk amazing views
It's a car park, conveniently located for Rough Tor and great for murmuration.
All good. Narrow lane from Camelford. Free parking. Woods just by for exploring
Please don't ruin it with any of those attention seeking rather silly stone stacks that are appearing all to often. It's been fine thousands of years.
It's a car park next to what Cornwall can call a mountain, not suitable for wheelchairs or those unable to deal with rough terrain
It's a car park and that's it. The Tor and its views however are spectacular
Good place for walking
It's a car park and it's free. No facilities on site, just great views
Carpark a good size good drive to it and free

Great place to park for free for fantastic walks
Busy place. Use road name not sat nav postcode
No cafe, no toilets no nothing, just as I like it 👍
and stopped for cream teas at Roughtor Farm Five Stars all round.
Right next to the walk. Holds about 40 spaces. Is free.
Free and has direct access to Bodmin Moor.
Does the job! Not a large or tarmaced car park though.
One of the most beautiful places I saw
It was rough.
Magical place to spend time. So peaceful and natural.🤗
Great hikes and hills, very beautiful.
Beautiful area for really good walks
Very scenic car park.
