Reviews of Paul Cowland Personal Trainer
R. C.
I have been training with Paul for 6 months now, and he has helped me considerably with my mobility and strength. He is a nice guy, has a huge knowledge of fitness & nutrition, is patient and friendly, with a good sense of humour. There is always good banter during the sessions, and that effectively makes me work harder. Sometimes when you’re working out, you can go that bit further because you’re distracted by laughing together or chatting about stuff.
Our sessions were transferred to online to Zoom in March, and they have been very effective. By keeping the sessions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings I have managed to maintain my fitness, something very important to me during these extraordinary times. It’s also fun to still see others in our little group despite being socially distanced, and a lot of that is due to Paul’s ability to make us all feel motivated.
I highly recommend Paul.

UPDATE: 4 months on and the 5 stars are still well and truly deserved. I've now lost 2 stone which feels fantastic, physically and mentally, and my energy levels are transformed. I now train with Paul together with a friend which is great fun, the sessions are varied and really push us (in a good way). Beyond the sessions I have the fitness and confidence to exercise independently, with cycling, running and kettle bells featuring regularly in my life. Give Paul a go, you won't regret it!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Just completed my first month with Paul. With objectives of losing weight sustainably and training for a 100k bike ride, after 8 sessions my energy levels are soaring. I look forward to all my sessions, Paul inspires me to work hard and has designed a home workout for me too. Although I've always been active I've never used weights but really see the benefits of strength training. Highly recommended!

Paul treats his clients as individuals and takes his time to work out a plan for you. You are always made to feel welcome in the gym and zoom sessions. I feel so much better since starting my journey with him would highly recommend Paul to anyone wanting to start fitness and mobility.

Paul has been helping me recover from 8.5 years of various cancer treatments, operations, radiotherapy and drug therapy. These left me alive 👍 but with weakened muscles, joint pain, mobility and posture issues. I've been able to discuss very specific themes for each session and Paul's expertise and focus on recovery, has really helped me move on quickly. I am now able to fit into group sessions and my strength and mobility are returning

Stronger, fitter and more confident than before my prolapse disc! Thanks to Paul's understand of the body and training I have been able to gain flexibility and strength beyond my bike meets tree moment!
We train in my kitchen with my kettle bells so I can do the routines at home. Still have some ambitions with the 32kg bell but for the moment 400 swings with 16kg is awesome.
He makes it fun and challenging. He did a session for my 13 year old football obsessed son, who like most kids is loosing his flexibility. He loved it and because of Paul's explanations and fun, my son did listen and understands the importance of stretching and flexibility.
Paul is dedicated to helping people with the experience to make a difference in what ever your goals are!
Thank you Paul

Paul is an awesome coach. He listened very carefully to my needs, I am Type 1 Diabetic and he constructed a 12 week transformation programme which I really needed. The results were amazing and he also managed to help me lower through nutrition, motivation and pushing me in the gym to lower my Hb1Ac glucose levels and cholesterol levels to their best in 15 years.
If you are looking for a change, big or small, Paul will help.you achieve whatever you need! But, you have to put the work in and be consistent!
See Paul, he's really great at coaching. End of!

Paul takes a different path to most PTs. His focus on mobility and flexibility provides a secure platform for longterm health and fitness. Highly recommend him for those committed to true health over Instagram poses. Although, after a couple of months you will look as well as feel a lot better.
On the negative side, Paul's client handling skills do not match his training skills.

I’ve been training with Paul for a few months now after a long time dealing with risidual lower back pain from a slipped disc (made worse by my job as a tattoo artist)
Going from doing little to no exercise to seeing Paul a couple of times a week, he has helped me to build my core muscle and massively helped with my mobility to the point of being pain free on a daily basis. He knows his stuff and can tailor everything to your needs and limits while still helping you to push yourself. I would recommend Paul to anyone.

If you are visiting Paul's website thinking to yourself 'should I do my training here?', allow me to tell you that the answer is 'YES' !
Paul is helpful, attentive, kind, humorous and knowledgeable.
Training as part of a small group (3/4) makes you push yourself and the time passes so quickly, at the end of each session you leave with such positivity.
Paul can help you with your diet too! and to add, he offers mobility classes as well (these are ideal if you have any aches and pains).
I would recommend Pauls services to anyone who is looking for that extra push back in to healthy living.

I am in my late thirties and I was probably the heaviest and most unfit I have ever been when I reached out to Paul having seen his studio outside Preston Park Station.
Paul really knows his stuff and manages to push you hard without going too far. He always seems to know the right stretch to get rid of any niggles. Sessions are always nicely varied with mobility, strength and cardio are all covered with the initial focus on mobility which is great for anyone deskbound.
Paul is not your stereotypical personal trainer, easy to get on with and good fun to work out with. He always has an interesting or funny story in between sets to take your mind off the exercise which helps the sessions fly by.
I have been training with Paul twice a week for about 2 months now and I have managed to lose about 12kg in that time. I still have some way to go but think that what I am learning with Paul will help me to make life long changes and I look forward to continuing to work with Paul going forward.
If you need to get fit give him a go - the first steps are always the hardest!

At the end of 2016 I herniated a disc in my neck after a high impact class at a local gym. We did at least 30 burpees and I lost my technique, in these classes the instructors with 20 people aren’t always looking at your technique. The next day I was in agony, to cut a long story short, I had a disc replacement 2 months later, I had 4 months off work.
18 months later I was scared about going back to the gym and saw Paul on Facebook, local to me. I was worried about going back to serious exercise. I saw Paul and I was doing so many exercises wrong!! With high potential for injury!!
He introduced me to mobility exercises, wow what a life changer, who doesn’t want more mobility as they age?
I’m turning 50 this year and feel stronger than ever. Paul’s sessions are different every time, they challenge me and I bloody enjoy them.
I used to have neck pain at the end of every working day but I don’t anymore. My husband also trains and had a medical at work last week.....he has grown an inch because his posture is so much better!!!
We are continuing to train with Paul, but most of the exercises he gives you , you can do at home, brilliant. I can’t recommend Paul highly enough.

I've attended two of Paul's mobility online classes , and already I feel as if I'm standing taller with a better posture !
I have problems with my lower back , pain and stiffness , after the two classes I can feel more mobility and less pain !
Classes are relaxed ,fun but at the same profesional ,Paul really knows his stuff !
Paul advised me to stick with the mobility classes for now before I progress to his other classes.
I'm looking forward to his next class on monday . I now feel inspired , instead of being a potato couch !
Thanks Paul ! I feel like a new woman ! And I mean that !
Cathy .

Paul has got the balance right : firm when he needs to be , gently encouraging when that approach won't yield so much. I needed considerable external motivation to take to weekly training, and after some 16 months I'm still very happily going back for more of the medicine. Paul is aided by his lively humour and a good understanding of what gets in the way of doing the right thing for your body. I've been in and out of gyms for over 30 years and wish I'd run into someone as personable and consistently encouraging as Paul at earlier stages in my cavalier assault on 'healthy living'. Highly recommended indeed.

Great progress in 4 months of weekly one hour sessions! At 40+ and not having exercised for years (whilst enjoying a very comfortable life) I was starting to feel beyond my age, unfit, aches and pains, slow with little stamina or strength. I’d thought of training with a PT for months but was put off by the idea of working with a 20 something gym bunny. Then I saw Paul's story in a local magazine and knew he’d be the right trainer for me, and I haven’t been wrong. Paul listened to and understood my requirements (I didn't want to be stuck in a gym running on treadmills and lifting weights, I wanted something freer and more natural) and responded by providing bespoke sessions with lots of variety making our sessions productive and fun. Speaking of fun, Paul is great company and I look forward to training and chatting in our weekly sessions.

Paul stands out for me as caring person genuinely interested in helping others to live their best life and be comfortable in their bodies. Personal training can be intimidating but with Paul you go on a journey to get comfortable in your body and be fit. He famously says "fit is not a shape". It is so refreshing to have a coach who has gone through the wars and is humble and funny, helping you to laugh and enjoy the journey. He adapts to clients in the moment and every class is new and fresh. I am very grateful to have found him to help me on my fitness journey. I was pretty broken but getting stronger now. You won't regret reaching out to him for help. Promise.

Went to Paul whilst still recovering from a slipped disc and in good amount of discomfort. Great one on one sessions tailored to my needs and goals. Now pain free, motivated and equipped with the base skills to continue my recovery on my own, in group and one on one coaching sessions. Highly recommended!

Having trained for several years with a short break. I started with training with Paul and after 9 sessions , I am fitter, faster and considerably stronger than before, enabling me to lift a personal best. He has improved my technique considerably and given me lots of exercises that I can do at home. I feel taller, squarer and more confident. Thank you.

I had various back problems most of my life which affected regular exercise. After the first three months of training with Paul my sciatic pain was gone and having trained with Paul for 2 and a half years now I haven't had any back problems. I've never felt fitter and I put that down not only his dedication to his clients but also to his constant research into improving overall fitness and to making those small adjustments to make big changes in peoples general health

A year ago I started the New Year stressed with work, lethargic and out of shape. I found little time or motivation to join a gym and sitting at a desk all day was giving me all sorts of lower back pain. I found Paul’s ad in a local magazine and decided enough was enough. I called him up and have never looked back. Paul’s sessions are fun, challenging and always varied. Whether it’s weights, HIIT or boxing, Paul tailors bespoke sessions every time, its always pre written by him to push me along towards my goal or changed on the spot depending on aches and pains upon arrival. Im glad to say that these are a distant memory now!
The sessions are always exciting and engaging. He encourages us to listen to our bodies and be vocal about any niggles we have. He is always on hand to offer alternative exercises or stretches to focus on certain muscles and effectively overcome any issues.
Whilst my job and the stresses haven’t changed, I have found a way of managing them in a much more positive way. Through Paul’s sessions I am fitter, more energized and fully focused. Exercise and healthy eating are once again at the top of the list. I am stronger with much greater flexibility. The strength training has tackled the localised lower back pain and the weight has dropped off though smarter nutrition. I would recommend Paul’s sessions to anyone

Paul is great, we love his sessions. He targets the areas that you need to improve. Hubby and I, who are both in our 60's, feel so much fitter and our core strength and flexibility has improved drastically. He also gives great tips for exercising at home and how to improve your diet.

Three months on, from attending The Train Station with Paul Cowland; I have to admit that he has quite literally helped me to transform my life; I have gained lots of lost energy, core strength, my enthusiasm for exercise was non frankly existent... Having not stepped in to a gym for fifteen years; I was very reluctant indeed to change old habits. The non pressurised manner, the gentle encouragement and motivation from Paul ....my over all wellbeing has improved dramatically... On my first visit I couldn't even climb the hill to the venue without shortness of breath... now I look forward to every session.
Many thanks indeed Paul I have lost 10 pounds in weight, and more importantly I have re-gained some of my confidence around body image!

Paul is great. For the first time in my life I don't find gym exercise numbingly boring. I'm generally sporty person, but gym is just such a borefest. With Paul the hour is over before I know it and he is "cool dude" just to have a chat with while sweating away. Plus after 3 months I can actually see results for once. Lost 5kg of fat and got some muscle instead. If you are like me and would like to exercise more after sitting behind pc at work whole day, yet gym bores you to death - first get yourself an audible account (audiobooks make gym bit more bearable) and secondly and most importantly - go and see Paul, you won't regret it.
S. F.
Can't recommend Paul highly enough. Super engaged in your individual journey, his personal commitment to you, his genuine care and ridiculously fun demeanour will never be matched by a gym membership. Go on, do it - treat yourself for 2019! Xx

Paul is an excellent trainer, with a great deal of knowledge on a wide range of areas in fitness and health. His personality and enthusiasm makes sessions fun and satisfying. Would recommend him to anyone!

I went to Paul for a winter boost and he has certainly provided it. His energy, knowledge, humour and compassion are brilliant. I feel stronger and more mobile and know that I have lots of tips and exercises I can do to stay this way. Thanks Paul - still not a fan of skipping though!
S. H.
I cannot thank Paul enough for the help he has given me with my stiff shoulder. I arrived at his studio a rusted wreck and, after just an hour of stretching muscles I didn't even know existed, I bounced out of there feeling so energised and invigorated, and with such an increased range of movement, I felt I had been oiled with a whole can of Castrol!!
Paul is so friendly and his infectious enthusiasm make the sessions great fun. I highly recommend him.
D. C.
Can't recommend Paul enough - incredibly friendly and focussed. He has a knack for making you feel at ease while encouraging you to push yourself. He also explains the benefits or everything he shows you and what muscles you're working, I wasn't expecting to learn so much!

Paul has given me brilliant training advice, helping me achieve my goal of improving my overall fitness and getting in much better shape. His knowledge and encouragement has been a great help in keeping motivated

We've really enjoyed working out with Paul for several months now, he's made exercise fun again, he really knows his stuff and tailors each workout to our needs. Highly recommended!

After an hour or so session in the hands of Paul, pressing on various points , stretching and using trigger point balls and rollers to work deep into the body , i emerged not only feeling more aligned and released but also so alert and chipper.
The knee problem I specifically wanted to address basically disappered together with the dull ache in my lower back and sacrum and today, a day later my entire frame feels flexible and free -in a way that it hasn't for quite a long time. Such a great feeling!!
This boy knows his stuff! His knowledge ad understanding of the working of the body is impressive and his methods for releasing restrictions and pain are so effective.

Paul is an absolutely awesome coach, if you're based in Brighton and looking for serious results there's nobody else that will guide you better and get you there quicker than Paul.
Put simply, if you want to get your ideal physique but also want the performance to match - Paul Cowland is your go-to coach.

I was surprised I would be looking forward to each session but I felt each session left me with a “Job well done” feeling. I have also noticed a major change in posture. I would highly recommend Paul!
