Birthday/Mothers Day treat with my neice and we had a fabulous afternoon tea, spa treatments and enjoyed the facilities. Staff were all polite and very helpful.

1st visit to any spa, we were not made aware of robe hire which was £22 £10 refunded, also we couldnt book any further treatments as they were fully booked and never made aware that these had to be pre booked.Treatment was lovely but only lasted 30 minutes. I would go back now knowing these things and plan a bit better. I did check the website out and i can't say I seen anywhere about robe/towel hire or pre booking further treatments. Our facial was booked for 1115 and it didn't state anywhere we could arrive earlier and use the facilities, after having facials and advised not to get our faces wet the pool/sauna/steam room we a bit of a no go for us.

A wonderful and relaxing place to forget about the outside world! Relaxing massages are always put on promotion so well worth the money paid. Never used the gym, however the swimming facilities are good. The pool isn't big but it has never been too busy while I've been there. Also offers a sauna and hot tub which are a nice extra to let your hair down.

What a fantastic day we spent there. Weights, cardio, gym class, swimming pool steam room and sauna. To enjoy a day just book it, you won't be disappointed. The staff were great from the people on reception to the massage team, fantastic.

Firstly I would like to thank Colin on the desk at the hotel who without any problem changed our room as there were a few issues with the cleanliness of the first room. I have only given this a 3 due to the catalogue of errors created by a particular member of staff on the reception of the health club, which caused no end of problems with my stay here, resulting in only having one decent treatment during my stay, as opposed to the 3 booked. This staff member created the incorrect email address on the system and gave verbally wrong times, booking in overlapping times of treatment and fitness session. Due to wrong email, therefore no confirmation sent to me, which could have then avoided the whole problem. My daughters bought me this 3 day treat for Mother’s Day, so very unfortunate. Also 4 beds in the pool area when 50 people in the pool, really not acceptable. I would have thought Banatynes would have done better. However I did appreciate the actual one facial treatment whilst here, which was divine thank you.

Went for a Spa day with my husband. Treatments were lovely, although not great to be asked to wait in cafe because room wasn't prepared, and there were no seats where indicated. Pool, sauna and steam room were busy all day and with only 4 lounge beds available in whole pool area there is clearly over selling issues, with many people being quite uncomfortable just sat on hard seats. Whilst enjoyable I remain unconvinced it was worth what it cist, and have certainly enjoyed better within the region.

Attended Durham bannatynes for a Wowcher spa deal. The spa staff are always fantastic, the room are clean and you can have a double room with your partner if you ask. This visit had a back massage and facial. The back massage was amazing, really readjusted my back. - petite blonde lass don't know her name but was great. Went in to the gym previously and it's poor, definitely more cardio stuff than anything and the weight machines were lacking - wouldn't go in the gym again. The pool small but ok, there is a dry sauna and a steam room then a jacuzzi - was quite busy when I attended Saturday morning, I'd suggest going maybe mid week

Stayed here on Saturday 6 November 2021. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Room was spotless. Double bed was so comfortable. Shower was powerful and hot. Loved the Elemis range in bathroom for guests to use. Breakfast on Sunday morning was quality and beautifully cooked. Again staff were so friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend as a short taxi ride into the city centre. Fantastic weekend!

We go here for a massage once a fortnight and we love it! It isn't your traditional spa hotel as it's a leisure centre, and I wouldn't go for a spa day, but the treatments are amazing and excellent value for money at around £40 for a 55 minute massage. The staff are very polite and the massages are fab.

The spa facilities could do with an upgrade, I think the outside space could do with some work, as we were sitting outside for coffee due to covid restrictions. What a lovely Spa Day I had here. It was a gift so I have no idea about value for money. It was clean and calm. Although it was quite compact there seemed more than enough room for everyone and it wasn't crowded. We had a facial and added an eye treatment for just £8. You chose your meal on arrival. Myself and my bestie couldn't have asked for more. The staff were absolutely fabulous, friendly and so helpful. Our treatments were amazing and the pool spa jacuzzi and all the facilities were tremendous. Our favourite part was the hot stone relaxation loungers....we were on them for hours. We had lunch and an evening meal and all the food was served fresh and soooo tasty and extremely reasonably priced. Our whole day was so great we stayed over....well when something is this good it would have been rude not too!

I come here quite often for spa days and have always really enjoyed my day myself and my friend were really looking forward to our treatments we usually have 2 treatments which lasts at least 1 hour but today we had 3 treatments and it only took half an hour our treatments were booked in for 2.15 but they didn't come for us untill 2.25 by the time we had gone to the room had a talk and got comfortable it was 2.35 and when we came out I said to my friend that didn't feel very long at all we looked at the clock and it was 3.05 we were very disappointed as didn't feel this was long enough for a shoulder,neck and back massage,facial and scalp massage I thought with it being 3 treatments instead of 2 we would get longer but we got even less time

Very good range of equipment and staff who have the experience and knowledge of how to get the best out of your time at this facility. Good access for both able and disabled. Car parking is plentiful they also have some disabled parking. Staff are very helpful and approachable. They have all the latest gym equipment. Happy Days.

Friendly staff and a well kept club, but the gym layout for the weights are was hard work, and the gym itself wasn’t really intuitively set up. Changing rooms were also quite small; everything just felt a bit below par which was disappointing. The pool however was great. We trained a few times over a weekend whilst staying at a hotel nearby.

A birthday gift from my daughter, who came along with me. I have been before on a few occasions. The staff are helpful. We started at the gym which is well equipped, pity the partakers on some of the equipment liked to chat rather than use it then move on to free it up for others. I'm not quite sure how big the relaxation room should be as it's does get quite busy and some users prefer take selfies and chat. The spa staff are very good and I did leave feeling better than when I went in, however no where to sit and quietly stretch out afterwards

Great spa and good gym facilities. If you're wanting to lift heavy then this isn't the place for you but the cardio and resistance machines are top class. Staff at the spa are very friendly and give some of the best massages I've had. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed visiting this spa not sure about the steps down to the pool area due to changing rooms being upstairs. Also the facilities on the whole ok and relaxing. But. Visitors bringing their mobiles in. Notice on the door. Says not allowed we tend to compare with our club. But still like going to other bannatynes for the experience

Love Chester-le-Street Bannatyne club, the swimming pool is beautiful, just the right temperature, the spa facilities are great too. The ladies changing rooms are large, with great hot showers, and cleaned very regularly. I love it :)

It's a good but small gym in comparison to many others. Gets quite busy on a weeknight. They're VERY sly with prices to loyal members and lower monthly prices without telling you. Some members still paying 55 per month and some paying 38.....for the same thing.

It's expensive but it is a good gym. The classes were always a good work out, and the gym is well maintained. Felt it was a bit rough when they doubled the costs of the heart bands, then tried to charge a subscription for them.

Went for a spa day and afternoon tea 19/08/2017. Arrived plenty of parking. Checked in, completed some health and safety forms and purchased spa bags at £6 and locker bands at £2(refundable) each. Was given a quick tour of the facilities and left to ourselves. Changing rooms equipt with hairdryers showers and WC. Pool nice temp decent size, only a few loungers available around the pool. Sauna steam room and jacuzzi all spot on. My mam and I had 2 treatments - Swedish massage and facial- both great. Informative friendly though not pushy upscale staff at spa. Treatments were amazing. Headed to relaxation room after treatment I LOVED the relaxation room, warm mosaic hotbeds in a candle lit room with relaxation music - great little surprise. We had afternoon tea which was ok, all o the food ( sandwiches, scones, cake and macaroons) we all full size would have preferred smaller portions but more variety. Hannah Johnston served us in cafe and she was outstanding - couldn't do enough for us, professional and continued the pampering feel of the spa day. The only complaint we have was that both of us have large feet an are tall. The flip flops in the spa bags did not fit us and the gowns were not made for taller people. We politely complained about this as we didn't feel that this was good value for money when all we got to use from the spa bag was a towel- a staff member named Toni apologised and contacted me last night to say she had spoken with her manager who hd authorised a refund. This was much appreciated and very.good customer service from the lass. All in all we had a wonderful relaxing afternoon spent about 6 hours there and had some proper quality time with my mam would defintely recommend.

Probably best healthclub in area but has some basic issues that management refuse to adress. Firstly the drains in the scruffy sauna stink and all they do is put bleach on the problem and blame the cleaner when its the procedure at fault. Secondly I cannot train calves there the calf machine is a waste of space. Finally I had the worst massage treatment ever experienced in a uk health club. The girl caused me back pain for 3 days and caused me ear pain by ringing bell in my ear and did not apogise nor did management. They ask for feedback then decide im a frootloop and ignore me! It is also really hard work for them to find you a towel at 55 quid a month they take ages then still charge you 2 quid. The staff here are more friendily than other clubs but there are a couple of individuals that are allowed to be horrible for some reason. When you see men in shirts and ties looking at lockers and examining equiptment you know the company operates a pyramid structure and doesnt care about its staff... so I left. The men in shirts should get some manual labour done instead of lording it over others.

First time back since reopening. It felt like really strange and I have been training for 40years. Not many in at 14.30 cannot see how you could properly social distance at the busy times ie 1700 to 1900 .Plenty sanitizer and cleaning stations but can you depend on everyone doing what is required?

Bizarre that a health club menu would serve pie, pizzas, curries and burgers but very little else. Also didn't have an alternative to regular dairy milk for someone in the group with a lactose intolerance. If there was anywhere you would expect to be able to get soy / almond / rice or whatever milk for a coffee you'd think a health spa would be the place!
