My wife and I have been training with Mike for nearly 2 years and the sessions are amazing! We use him twice a week and every session is honestly a challenge and Mike really pushes you to the next level which is exactly what we were looking for in a PT. Our strength and fitness have gone up a good few levels since we started and Mike has great knowledge and keeps you fully motivated during these hour sessions which he constantly mixes up. The gym and set up are excellent as no issues getting equipment like most gyms, free parking outside, great value for money and a great team all round.

I initially signed up for a 12 session block at Mike's studio. Used to doing mostly long distance running I was looking to add a bit of strength and become more confident in using weights at the gym (as I previously had zero)
What I got from going to Mike's gym was so much more! The sessions are 1 on 1 and the gym is very quiet as well as being very well equipped. Mike and particularly my trainer Andrea have been absolutely fantastic in their knowledge and motivational skills, no judgements at all no matter the skill set. Also very good at putting up with my whinging!
I was so surprised at how much of a difference I felt even within a few weeks - the results have been so rewarding I've been going 2-3 x weekly the past 3 months and I love every session. It's changed my running and the way I think about fitness in general.

I have been training at the gym for around 5 months and I can't speak highly enough of my experience there. Mike is a knowledgeable trainer who is also a great motivator, and the studio is a perfect environment to work out in. A great space with a wide range of equipment and never a need to wait for access. I do 2 one hour sessions a week with Mike and I really do look forward to them, and have definitely seen really good results, I feel like I'm constantly improving in fitness and in strength. Having been with Mike for roughly 2 years now, it's honestly hard to vision my exercise regime without him. During that time, we've ever increasingly built my strength & endurance, while learning countless techniques I've taken with me to use at my home or public gym. Mike has been nothing but friendly, supportive and immensely encouraging with my training, and even once I reach my goal weight/size, I don't see myself dropping my training with him. After deciding that we needed more motivation than just a gym membership, my friend and I decided to look into getting a personal trainer. Mike was professional and friendly from the outset and helped us set achievable goals and diet plans. The workouts are challenging but still fun, and incorporate both weight training and cardio. The gym itself is great as it is very well equipped but nice and quiet (as its only the trainers and the clients that use it) - you don't have to worry about exercising in front of people! I genuinely look forward to the sessions each week and despite only attending 2 sessions/week for 6 weeks, I have already lost almost a stone in weight and 7 inches from my waist and hips. I would definitely recommend Mike if you are needing motivation to get in shape and/or feel intimidated by public gyms.

I have always had a slim build but I was looking to build strength and muscle tone. I regularly worked out at the gym but was looking for a more targeted approach to my training and guidance from someone who could show me new exercises and ensure that I was doing them correctly. I passed Mike Heatlie’s Personal Training studio every day on my way to work and kept saying to myself “Oh I must pop in there one day” so eventually that day came and a few months later I’m so glad I did!
This is a proper gym with excellent equipment and great personal trainers. I have been a member of a few gyms over the years but they are so big and unfriendly and you can never get access to the equipment. At Mike’s gym there is a great friendly atmosphere and the motivation you get here is fantastic. Every training session is different from the next. Stuart is a great personal trainer and certainly makes you work very hard at reaching your goals, has taught me an extensive range of exercises, has increased my level of fitness and strength and feel and look more toned, sleep better and eat healthier. Can’t say much more than that!.. I actually look forward to my 2 sessions per week, thank you Stuart….

Mike's gym is really motivating and has great facilities to always have a diverse workout. My trainer Billy is amazing - extremely friendly, enthusiastic and passionate about fitness and makes me feel very comfortable. I have given 100% effort in my training alongside healthy eating at home and in return I have lost 15lb in under 6 weeks and still continue my journey into losing weight and feeling healthy. I have found my mind set has changed with my trainer guiding me through my diet – in the past I have always been completely strict and then after a month I go back to eating lots of junk and gain weight, my trainer has guided me into changing my mind set that I can have a treat however after a treat to get back into my diet and training and not feel guilty about it – this is one of the most challenging things I have found about dieting in the past and this time has been very beneficial. My trainer always changes the workout and never once I have been bored or could predict my workout because he always comes up with new circuits which I think is key in staying motivated. Personal training is expensive to maintain however I feel Mikes gym offers such good price that is more affordable than any other personal training programme that I have seen within the Edinburgh area.

I was regular gym goer before I started training at Mike's gym in November. I went a few times a week but I wasn't really seeing the results I wanted. Since I started the personal training I have noticed a huge difference in my fitness level. I know the most effective exercises, what to eat and when. The studio is private and not intimidating like public gyms. Everyone is really friendly, the trainers and fellow clients! My trainer, Stuart, is a great motivator and knows how hard to push you. I had my son four years ago and although I have tried several times and joined countless gyms I have really struggled to lose my baby weight.
I had never tried a personal trainer but my sister had started going to Mike's gym and was doing really well which is why I decided to give it a try.
I have been going since May this year, I go once a week and get advice and guidance on my diet as well as a work out plan. I have lost a stone in weight and 5 inches from my waist.
I feel so much better about myself. Having a personal trainer keeps me motivated and pushes me to go to the gym where in the past I probably would have put if off.
The gym itself is great, with a really good range of equipment. The fact that you can always get on the equipment you want is a huge bonus. In other gyms I found I spent most of my time on CV equipment as free weight rooms/areas were predominantly occupied with body building males which I found as a woman - not in particularly good shape, quite intimidating. That's not the case at all in Mike's gym, I feel really comfortable. All the trainers are really welcoming and professional.
I travel from Perth every week to visit Mike's gym and it is definitely worth it. I wouldn't go anywhere else now. Big thanks to Mike and his team.

A friend recommended Mike to me about 2 years ago but as I already had a gym membership and went regularly, it seemed daft to see a personal trainer too.
As I got busier at work the gym sessions gradually declined and I felt that I didn't really have time to fit training into my hectic schedule. Finally 8 weeks ago I decided that drastic action was needed so I contacted Mike.
He was very enthusiastic and incredibly knowledgeable and had me training within 2 days of meeting up! Booking 15 sessions meant that I HAD to make time to exercise.
My trainer is really friendly and a great motivator and I really look forward to our sessions. We never do the same workout twice which keeps it interesting and I can't just decide to skip a session as I'd be letting him down. My strength has increased dramatically since I started and I've dropped a dress size!
My gym shy husband has also booked 15 sessions and is seeing brilliant results after just 3 weeks, so much so that we've decided to carry on long term but training together instead! This is a great option for busy couples who also want to save some cash.
Frankly, I wish I'd done this years ago and I can't recommend the gym and staff highly enough.
If you've been thinking about doing PT and want real results just pick up the phone, you won't look back!

I have been going to the gym regularly for years and have always remained consistent, however when you feel like your are working hard but not seeing the results it can be a little demotivating and after a few, shall we say, unflattering holiday photos, I decided it was time to step things up a gear and signed up with Mike. I've now been working with Ross (one of the team of great trainers at the studio) since February and saw more results in two months than I had in years on my own at the gym.
Ross makes every session fun, challenging and different, its the quickest hour of my day! Ross is very knowledgeable and creative with the workouts which means I never get bored and always feel like I'm progressing.
The great thing about Mike's studio is that its designed specifically for personal training so there's no queues for equipment, its not crowded and the trainers are flexible in terms finding time slots that suit your daily life. Everyone is really friendly and you are immediately put at ease.
I can honestly say that I look forward to my sessions each and every week, even the aching muscles that follow that next day :) I think I've lost about 7lbs, a good few inches off the waist and feel better than ever. Best decision I could have made and would recommend Mike Heatlie Personal Training to anyone.

I've been training at Mike’s gym for a year and a half now and I really enjoy it. I lost about stone in weight in the first 3 months and have kept it off. I train twice a week but how often you train is up to you. It’s a great Gym, everyone is really friendly and there is always a nice atmosphere.
I was a bit nervous when I was heading for my first session as I had presumed that I’d be walking into a very masculine environment but it’s not like that at all. A lot of the time there are more women than men training and there are male and female trainers too.
My trainer is Marek and he’s really knowledgeable about health and fitness and has given me loads of advice on my diet too, no two training sessions are the same as he always puts something new into the mix so there is no chance of ever getting bored.
The Personal Trainers work you really hard and push you that bit harder than you would if you were training on your own. I've been a member of a couple of Gyms in Edinburgh but if you are serious about your health and fitness this is by far the best place to be. It’s one of the best things I've done.

After seeing some of the results on the website I decided to sign up and give it a go. I can honestly say it's the best decision I ever made.
Right from the very first session I have been given nothing but encouragement.
My first session with Mike was scary but positive, and brutally honest!! If you don't put in the effort you won't get the results. Simple!!
My trainer is Stuart and he is a god send. He is there pushing me to my limits but making me believe I can do it. And I can!!
He gives me constant feedback and advice and is so supportive.
The facilities in the studio are fantastic. I love the privacy and not having the feeling of intimidation as I've had in public gyms.
I signed up for the "lose 10 pounds" package. I actually lost 1 stone in the 5 weeks.
I can't recommend the studio enough. It's been nothing but a positive experience.
Yes, it's hard work but the feeling you get after completing your session is amazing. It encourages you to keep going and look forward to the next session.
Obviously it's more expensive than a "normal" gym membership but it's worth every single penny.

Mike set me up with Stuart and from day one he has pushed and supported me, helping me achieve my goals and more.

There is a real friendly atmosphere in the gym, it is really well equipped and never any waiting to use equipment while someone takes 15 minutes to complete their 4 sets as is often the case in other gyms.

I joined Mike's studio about 3 weeks ago to take advantage of the 12 sessions for £275 on offer. I was paired with Kerry who has been brilliant! The studio has all the equipment you could need, the staff are really friendly and helpful and were willing to accommodate my request for 6am starts! The team help you set realistic goals and give you more than enough encouragement along the way. The studio is perfect for PT sessions and is a far more relaxed environment than a busy gym. I started going to Mike's gym with my boyfriend around a year and a half ago. It was the first time I'd used Mike's gym or even had personal training but my boyfriend had used his gym before and highly recommended it. I instantly liked it and didn't feel self conscious about using equipment (particularly weights) like I do in a public gym. The trainers were really friendly and helpful and I noticed them train people of all ages and abilities. We were trained by Mike and he was great - reallly knowledgable, good fun and professional. He also pushed us out of our comfort zone and I am now much fitter and stronger than ever before, even when I was regularly attending local gym classes. I had been losing weight through diet alone but had reached a plateau and knew I had to introduce exercise but was not confident enough to join a gym. A quick search of personal trainers online brought up the Mike Heatlie Personal Training Studio. After reading the reviews I decided to give it a go and it's been one of my best decisions ever! It was still scary sending that initial email and going for my first meeting with Mike but I was immediately put at ease, there is no judgement here just people that want to help you. The facilities are great and as it's one on one there is no waiting around to use the equipment. My trainer Stuart has been fantastic, lots of advice (diet and exercise) and very supportive. Never thought I would enjoy going to the gym! It is hard work but the results are so worth it. I signed up for the lose 10lbs in 5 weeks programme and lost 1 stone in the 5 weeks, and I'm still losing and getting fitter each week. 2 work colleagues joined after seeing the results that I was getting. I really can't recommend the studio enough.

I have been attending Mike Heatlie PT for a few months now with my girlfriend and, although it is hard work, I have enjoyed every minute of it. My goal was really to break the monotony of going to the gym, to make sure I was getting the most out of my sessions and to take training to the next level. The sessions are always varied and focused on what you, as an individual, are trying to achieve. You definitely know you have done a work-out when you are finished, and feel better for it.
The trainers are a massive part of why this gym is so successful. We have had two in our time there, Katie and Jordan, and both have been brilliant. They have always kept the sessions interesting, tailoring them to what we want to achieve and do very well to keep us motivated while making sure we are working hard towards our goals.

I joined Mike's Personal Training Studio a few months ago. I was steadily putting on weight and I had lost all motivation to do any exercise. That's when I decided something needed to be done! I googled personal trainers in Edinburgh and found Mikes personal training studio had amazing reviews... I thought "this is the one for me". So I took the first big step and contacted Mike. He emailed me back straight away and answered all my questions, and when I went round and met him he made me feel at ease, he is so friendly and down to earth.
Mike assigned Ashley to be my trainer... and I couldn't be happier!!! Ashley pushes me and motivates me in every session. She is just so lovely. I feel really comfortable around Ashley and in the gym... and we do have a good laugh.
The gym itself is really well equipped, and there is absolutely no waiting around to use equipment! Which is great!
I am now steadily loosing weight and inches, I'm starting to feel good about myself again.

I've never been one for training with gym equipment and spent years doing repetitive fitness classes with little improvement to my fitness levels or physique. Six weeks before my wedding I decided to use the time wisely and signed up for 12 PT sessions to really push myself. After a chat with Mike he booked me in with Stuart. I was extremely nervous going to the studio for the first time and I found it all a bit embarrassing! But Stuart is a great trainer. He's really positive, encouraging and has has built up my confidence a lot.. despite my constant whinging! All the trainers and Mike are really welcoming and its not an intimidating place to work out. I was shocked to see results so quickly and have continued with the sessions after my wedding. Even though its tough I look forward to training now. I highly recommend you give it a try.

Mike was really approachable from the first time I met him, came up with a plan and was really knowledgeable in the advice he was giving. Sessions are hard but worth it! The gym is real spacious and is always kept clean. You usually have the gym to yourself, if not only a couple people to share with so plenty access to all equipment. I have been attending Mike's gym for almost 18 months now. I stopped for three months and then returned because of the standard of the personal training I receive (my trainer is Greg) and the value for money. Normally I hate gyms, but Mike's gym is friendly, professional and non-threatening. He chooses his trainers with care and after the initial consultation with him, he allocates a trainer. Absolutely love training here! It's such a friendly and pleasant environment to train in and my strength and fitness has improved more than I could have hoped for when I first started. I’ve been going to this personal training studio for the last 2 years. It’s really quite a unique facility in Edinburgh in that it’s really well equipped, while being mostly available just for personal training, hence you get the best of both worlds. Mike is one of the best, if not ther best qualified personal trainers in Scotland, in terms of experience and academics. As a consequence, he not only provides a first class PT experience himself, but also hand picks a selection of quality trainers, and then matches you with one based their specialism, and on your needs. Additionally, it’s no more expensive than you pay in a standard gym, where you get none of the privacy you do in Mike’s studio. Highly recommended!

So far the trainers have been brilliant. Mike is a lovely guy who promoted the concept of looking fit, unlike a lot of personal trainers I have seen and met who don't look like they train properly themselves.
The two trainers he has set me up with are very, very knowledgeable. The training has been very enjoyable and leave me feeling energised and worked.

Mike Heatlie's personal training is one of the most cost effect ways to receive a high end personal training service. Staff are very friendly and make you feel comfortable specially if this is something you are concerned about in a gym environment. The hard work in the gym and healthy eating at home with guidance from the trainers really makes such a difference in the way you feel and the relationship I had with food. I am a massive binge eater and my trainer has made me change my way of thinking - everything within moderation, I am not to starve myself but to make better choices. Billy is a superb trainer and is extremely passionate about fitness and well-being which is completely obvious from first meeting him. I have been training with Mike since February now and it has been by far the best investment in my own health and fitness that I have ever made. I haven't ever met anyone like Mike, his energy, enthusiasm and optimism is incredible. He is more than just a trainer and works to get the best from his clients. I was not only guided to gain physical strength but mental strength and well-being too. As soon as you arrive- you're welcomed and it's not long before you're empowered to train hard. With Mike's P.T sessions, I haven't once hesitated on showing up and probably to his surprise never checked the clock during each session 😆
Before I started, I was kidding myself thinking I could never afford a personal trainer while at the same time I would happily spend most of my money on takeaways and junk food etc. It was a harsh reality to face the facts of my declining health and poor eating habits but you cannot dream yourself into shape, you have to hammer and forge yourself into one. I'm so glad I turned to Mike for his help. Within the first month, there were visible results prompting encouraging compliments from my nearest and dearest and even Mike too. Four months in now and I'm three stone lighter, more energetic, focused but most importantly in a better place mentally.

I've joined Mike's studio to get in shape, increase stamina and gain some muscle tone. The weight was not an issue for me, however during the first 3 weeks I've lost 2 kg, just by following dietary advice of my trainer.
Now I'm finishing my second month with Stuart and I couldn't be happier about the results- every day I'm getting stronger, fitter and have a lot of energy. I've lost a total of 4,5 kilos without even trying, just by lifting whatever he tells my to lift=)
Stuart is an excellent trainer- friendly and fun, but also strict and tough when necessary, he's a great motivator and gave me lots of awesome advices regarding training and diet.
I would have never achieve these results without Mike's studio, I would've juts kept going to the gym, like I was for the past years and wasting my time without any effect on my body.

I've going to Mike's gym for over a year now and it's the best thing I've ever done. I've lost weight, toned up and now eat a healthy diet. My big fear of gym's was that everyone is watching you but at Mike's gym that's not the case. My trainer Katie made me feel right at home from day one and makes each session fun it doesn't feel like working out until the next day. I’ve used a few Personal Trainers in the past with mixed results but Mike Heatlie’s Personal Training Studio really made a huge difference for me. Firstly Mike meets with you and works on a plan for achieving your goals and specifically a diet plan as I needed to lose at least three stone.
The Studio is private which is great and it feels really personal, very good equipment also. The training is very hard, but I really needed that, and even though I struggled I did feel a hell of a lot better after it.
After only 12 weeks I had lost the three stone which I was over the moon about and I’m going to Mike’s gym twice a week as I get so much out of it, binned my gym membership, wasn’t using it.
Mike’s Studio is definitely the place to go if you have weight to lose or a specific goal in mind as you’ll work to a plan and are pushed to your limits but this is what gets the results, it did for me anyway. Thanks to Mike and all his team!"

I initially joined to get healthy, fit and in shape for my wedding and loved the results from regular sessions with my trainer Stuart. Stuart pushed me harder than any fitness class at a regular gym had before and, combined with a good diet, I saw results quickly. I started to enjoy going to the gym more than I ever had done and continued with Stuart throughout my subsequent pregnancy. Stuart adapted our sessions to suit my changing body and energy levels but helped me to maintain a great fitness level throughout. I started training at this gym a couple of months ago with Stuart after getting in touch with Mike. I decided to join up as I wanted to tone up and strengthen my body as I was starting to worry about the effects a degenerative musculoskeletal disorder was having on my long term health. Since starting with Stuart not only have I lost weight and inches but I've become fitter and stronger. I hardly ever suffer from fatigue anymore (brought on by my condition) and my posture is much better. Each session is different so you never know what to expect and you're never bored with training! If there is one person that hates exercise and the daunting thoughts of the Gym, it's myself. Recommended by a friend and being so impressed with the results, I had to give it a go! Myself and my friend decided we needed something a bit more stable as going to a regular gym together was just no good and it didn't motivate us enough. Mike was professional and friendly from the outset and our goals were achievable. 6 weeks in and I can honestly say I can never look back. It's exactly what I needed to push myself back into shape. I have a few medical issues including 2 hip operations and 1 pending and Mike knew exactly how to handle me and what's even better is my operation has been delayed as i've lost the weight that was clearly breaking down my hips. I'm sitting at around 7.5inches lost over all and i'm at my lowest weight in over 4 years! The workouts are great and he does push you and motivate you in the right way, rather than being too pushy. It's the first gyming/exercise experience I can honestly say I enjoy going to twice a week. Pricing is great, the gym is well equipped (though bring your own boxing gloves as you need a good wash after using the gym ones!) and you are never on top of each other. Gone are the days waiting on machines or feeling embarrassed about exercising in front of fitness perfect people! Everyone is there on a one to one (or one to two) personal training and there only ever is trainers or clients in the gym.

I love training here with Aleksandra, it's welcoming and friendly and I always feel comfortable which has not been the case at other gyms! When I train it's always quiet, there's a good variety of equipment and the people are lovely. I've seen amazing results, and have lost over a stone and a half so far, but I also feel stronger and fitter. So glad I found the studio, I would recommend it to anyone at any level looking to get a bit healthier.

I started at Mike Heatlie Personal Training after a heavy year of indulgence and with 3 weddings looming in the year to come I needed to get back into shape. The fitness classes in my gym were not inspiring me and frankly not cutting it. My boyfriend recommended Mike's gym and specifically trainer Stuart Malcolm to get me into shape as Stuart worked wonders on him the previous year. The whole team at the gym are friendly and the atmosphere is positive which put me at ease during my first daunting sessions. Having previously attended Mike's gym with a 1:1 trainer, I have been attending his boot camp sessions that have been running since last year. The full body work out circuits have progressively built up my strength and confidence using the various machines. I've been working with my trainer for the past month now at Mike Heatlie gym and can honestly say I have never felt so good. I wanted to try a personal trainer after years of gym sessions and classes and not feeling I was getting anywhere so I contacted Mike and a few days later I was introduced to my trainer Allan Clarke. I have just had my 10th session and already seeing a big difference in my overall body shape and fitness which feels amazing. My sessions are varied with cardio and weights so each session is different – and you always feel like you’ve worked hard at the end of it. I can genuinely say I have enjoyed each workout and look forward to the next which I think is hugely down to the relaxed welcoming environment the gym offers, and of course the great workouts Allan puts me through!! ‘I first heard about Mike Heatlie Personal Training from an ad in I-On Edinburgh magazine. I’d been a member of various gyms over the years but had latterly got out of the routine of training. Consequently, my waist size had risen from 34 to 39. Now in my fifties, I knew I had to take some action to get back in shape. I had also started suffering from Sciatica which could be hugely debilitating. I had recently tried using a Personal Trainer in another gym, however I found him to be disinterested and unreliable, so I decided to give Mike Heatlie’s place a try. Mike’s gym is just outside the City Centre in a safe, well-lit environment with plenty of parking right outside. I was immediately impressed by Mike’s professional, friendly approach and signed up right away and I’ve now been visiting my Personal Trainer, Greg, for almost a year. Knowing that throwing yourself right into three sessions a week can be counter-productive, I started off with one session a week and now I go twice a week, rising to three times next month. I’ve lost a bit off the waist, but most of all I feel much more energetic and just more confident in my appearance and well-being. My Sciatica has completely disappeared as Greg has helped me ‘train it out’. This is an update to my previous review from over a year ago. I have now been training at Mike Heatlie's gym for over two years, and have continued to progress. The training offered by the guys there is second to none. There is a great friendly atmosphere and it is suitable for everyone. Nobody feels awkward or intimidated like in so many of the big city gyms. Because of the layout in the gym you get far more done in hour, as everything is so well laid out.
Each of the trainers I have had has been excellent and my current trainer Ross gets me working at a level which I never thought I would be capable of.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough. The best value and most effective personal training you could hope for.
ORIGINAL If you want to find out what you are capable of, this is the best gym to go to for safe, challenging and professional training in a friendly atmosphere. Get away from the crowded cardio gyms and enjoy the benefits of proper weight training. Proper technique is paramount and has simply enabled me to maximise the pleasure and sense of achievement.

Working with the trainers at Mike Heatlie Personal Training Ltd has turned my life around. I went to him back in late August/early September 2011 and we talked through lots of different things relating to health and well-being. He appointed me to a trainer (Neil Elbourne) and we got started right away. At first, the regime seemed just so hard - but within just over a week, I was starting to feel huge benefits of regular exercise and training. As each session passed, Neil increased the weights we were using and increased the time we spent using cardiovascular machinery - and the results were to me unbelievable. Neil and all of the trainers including Mike who runs the studio are incredibly supportive and really help boost your confidence during each and every training session. The sessions are very hard and they continue to get tougher each time but I would not wish this to be any different - this inspires you to do even more and beat your own personal bests. I was so much more motivated knowing that I had arranged to meet my trainer at certain times and found that I was much less likely to cancel than if it was just an ordinary gym session or class.
As a busy working mum, I arranged to have my sessions during lunch hours so that I didn’t miss out on family time.
My trainer varied my workouts so that it never got boring and we got maximum results. We went running outside during spring, and this was particularly beneficial for body & mind!
My trainer was a total star, really supportive and offered to come and support me while I took part in McMillan’s Race for Life. He made getting fit really fun while also being professional and extremely knowledgeable.
You do pay more for a personal service like this, but I found it to be excellent value for money, and this is evident in the results achieved!
My advice to anyone thinking about working with Mike would be to Go for it!!

I was given Jordan Kynoch as my PT who is full of enthusiasm and positivity he puts you through your paces but its done with some humour and alot of motivation to see you through your hours session, he is also very switched on to customer needs so he will tailor your session to suit
Another point worth noting is you never know what you will be doing on any session so the training is full of variety.
This has paid dividends for me as I have lost 11k since joining this Gym

Mike Heatlie's Personal Training Studio is exactly the kick in the backside I needed. I had previously been heavily involved in sport competitively, but injuries forced me out. I have used a personal trainer before but he unfortunately emigrated and I let my fitness and weight slide big time. Deciding to do something about it is as much mental as physical and my best friend sent me the link to Mike's studio on the back of a Groupon offer for a massage. It came at the right time for me to start taking control of my health and fitness again.
Meeting Mike for the first time was a scary step to take but he impressed me with his knowledge and understanding, enough to make me sign up. The first session with Mike was daunting and to be fair I ached all over pretty much for the first 4/5 weeks as my body took time to get used to exercise again.
Mike matched me with Eran who has been fantastic. He is the right combination of supportive and sadistic, which is a requirement for a good trainer I believe...... Eran has been able to get me to do more that I thought my body would be able to do and had the confidence in me on my ability even when I have not.
I originally joined on the lose 10lbs is 5 weeks offer, which I did. I purchased a second session block, reducing to 2 sessions a week now as I have been given the confidence to go back to the gym and do classes - the gym itself I find boring if I'm there on my own. I'm now regularly doing classes at the gym with ongoing support from Eran to keep me motivated.
This has really worked well for me and I am continuing to lose weight and get fitter, which was the point of starting this. I still ache after a session, but the aches no longer last all week and my recovery is much better. Can't thank Mike and Eran enough for setting me off on this new route and I'm sure we will continue to work together for a while.

After I stopped rowing competitively I grew bored with training with no end goal in sight and I quickly found that I have no motivation in the gym when working out on my own. Thankfully I joined Mike Heatlie earlier this year as Jon and Matt have really helped me rediscover that competitive spirit, the desire to train and also have helped me to improve my lifestyle again. Not only are they excellent trainers, keeping up motivation levels and pushing me to my limit, but their knowledge of nutrition is also very useful. The sessions might be tough, but I always feel great when I finish! I would recommend any of the trainers at Mike Heatlie; all are approachable, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. April 13 was when I joined Mikes Studio and PT Gregg drew the short straw......... his mission was/is to get my butt in gear and shed the excess weight that I have gained over the years......just completed my 1st 12sessions in 6weeks(looking forward to next 12), results are great, lost over 15 pounds and can fit in to clothes that I haven't been able to wear for ages....but best of all I feel much better within myself and leading a much healthier lifestyle...I still have a long way to go to reach "my" ideal weight but very confident Gregg can get me there.
The Studio is very well equipped and although I find every session challenging Gregg varies every 1 and we have a good bit of banter along the way especially when he leads me to the cross trainer grrrr...He is very good at knowing when to push me on to do that extra squat or getting me to rest when needed .He also gives advice on healthy eating and tells me to get in touch if I need advice.. Being a private Studio means the only other users also have their PT as well and its never very busy. The dietary advice Mike gave me when I 1st joined has helped immensely, the varied meal plans and food diary's he sent me means I always have a wide variety of healthy eating options. I would highly recommend anyone looking to get fit or loose weight to join Mikes Studio

Training at Mike’s studio with my trainer, Blair, has completely changed my life. Instead of being too scared to join in with activities because I was embarrassed about how unfit I was, I’m now exercising and being active just because it’s fun!
Before I started at the studio, I had been gradually getting heavier and more unfit over a period of about 3 years (even though I was paying for an unused gym membership). I took the plunge and emailed Mike, he got back to me straight away and there was no turning back. I was nervous about my first few sessions and was worried about being the most unfit person in the gym, but I needn’t have worried - everyone there is totally focussed on their own training and couldn’t care less about what you are doing or how much you are sweating!
The training is intense, but the results are noticeable and swift. Blair changes the exercises regularly so I never get bored and he really pushes me in each session. I would definitely recommend training at the studio to anyone who wants to make a change to their health and fitness, you won’t regret it.

My friends and I decided it would be a good idea to take part in this years Tough Mudder, and even though I was fit I knew I needed help with weight training and to step up the cardio.
I used to go to a smaller gym and PT, however he left to travel so I had joined a larger city centre gym. After two sessions in there I knew it was not the place for me. A friend at work knew about my want to increase training, and dislike for the large gym, so suggested I give Mike Heatlie Personal Training a go.
One of the best recommemdatiosn ever.
After contacting Mike, we went over my aims for the sessions and I was matched with Jonny for strength and conditioning training. The sessions were tough but really good fun. I was pushed each time I was in there, whether it was cardio or weights. After 10 weeks of training my endurance, cardio and muscle mass has increased, my levels of fat have decreased and I am full of energy. Jonny was a great trainer who have given me some amazing advice on training and diet. I was really motivated the whoel time and I was, and now I am seriously considering another 5 week block.
If you have a specfic aim, and want to enjoy your time trainig, I cannot recommend Mike Heatlie Personal Training enough.

All equipment in the studio is in the highest standards. Stuart is a very good PT. Training sessions are very intense, so there is no waste of time. It is really worth the money. I was currently using an independent PT however he went away for a month so I was looking for a replacement to cover in that short period. I was recommended Ross at Mike Heatlie by a friend who had been before so I thought I would give it a try.
I love the set up of the gym, the fact that the only people there are also being trained so there's never more than about 5 people there at one time. This is great for people like me who used to hate going to the gym and feeling self conscious!
The gym is also fully equipped and, because of the limited amount of people, you never have to wait for a machine. There's also private parking right outside which is a massive bonus.
Ross was very friendly (as are all the staff), knew just how far to push me and recognised when I was at my limit. I have actually noticed much better results since starting here than I did with my previous trainer. With that in mind, I plan to continue here permanently.
So I need to say something critical to balance it up, right? Only thing I can think of is the location - I live on the other side of town so its a 25 minute drive. OK, hardly the gym's fault but its worth it for the results!

The difference here is you work one on one with a trainer, who really pushes you, it's not so easy to take a day off when you are feeling tired or lazy because it's not just yourself you are letting down. The trainers are really supportive and committed to helping you achieve your goals. Exercise is only half the battle and diet really comes into the equation if you are aiming for weight loss, with the help of Mike’s advice I've actually managed to stick to a healthy eating plan that leaves me feeling satisfied and energised.
If you are thinking about doing "something" to improve your fitness and health I really don't think you could do any better than sign up for the 5 week program at Mike Heatlie - the hardest part is walking through the door, after that, you'll start to see changes very quickly.
So after 5 weeks how does it feel? Amazing - I've lost 20 lbs - far more than ever imagined possible, my fitness levels have dramatically improved and I actually look forward to my sessions at the studio. It's hard work but the support and guidance that the team at Mike Heatlie Studio provide makes this the most effective and enjoyable program of exercise I've ever undertaken.

Edinburgh's drinking and fried food culture took a toll on my health last year. I was unhealthy, lacked stamina and could not be bothered to go to the gym or join those group classes that lacked any personal attention. So, I searched for a personal training institute to help bring an overall lifestyle change. I wasn't looking to achieve short term goals, but I wanted a permanent long term solution to my overweight problem. Mike Heatlie’s institute was the most promising among all my searches. I have been with Mike’s gym since shortly after I had my second baby in December 2013. Until a few months ago I was trained by Ross.
Ross was a great trainer and had managed to help me to get my weight down to even less than before I had my first baby. This was a challenge as I had my babies only 10 months apart.
I was anxious when Ross said that he was emigrating to Australia in May this year. He suggested that I should continue with another of Mike’s team of personal trainers, Stuart Malcolm, and I am so glad I did. Stuart is very different to Ross but is just as good in his own way. After my first few sessions I came back absolutely exhausted. Stuart pushed me in different ways, having recognised that I was ready to move to another level. In fact I can now see that I really needed to be pushed again.
Stuart has been helping me to tone and strengthen specific areas. He has also made me better appreciate the role of food in overall health and fitness.

Where to start...probably best at weight and health I suppose. In late August 2015 when I started at Mike Heatlie's gym, I was 19.8 stone with health issues aplenty, I'll save you all the gritty details on those though. At the beginning of 2016 I am 14.5 stone with vastly improved health - 4+ stone lost by Xmas 2015. A simple summary to a difficult task, I know. However, you will be happy to know that that is what I experienced when training with Persia at Mike Heatlie's gym, an insurmountable task becoming pretty straightforward.
My experience, as a whole, was that all the Trainers were very friendly and accommodating – there were all types of people being trained but I felt very comfortable and became oblivious to their presence. Persia, who had the pleasure of putting up with my incessant grumbles was always positive, very supportive and encouraging. Sessions were never boring and Persia always increased the intensity when I became stronger and faster. From my perspective I've had my love for exercise reignited - I now go to the gym, go to boxing twice a week and plan to join a football team. Things that I could not have dreamt to do months ago.
Best cash I've spent in a very very long time. Truly life changing. You will need to put the effort in to get the best results as the Trainers are not magicians. However, like everyone else who has had the pleasure to be trained by Persia, or any of the other Trainers, I can say with confidence that they are Magic!

A light bulb when off in my head after seeing a photo of myself from a recent holiday; it was quite clear that I was not as fit and healthy as I thought I was. And despite being a regular gym user, it was at this point that I realised I had actually lost all enthusiasm and motivation for exercise and it showed. Something had to change!!
So after some serious thought about what I wanted to change/achieve, I decided to investigate the world of personal training. Hours of trawling the net and reading reviews led me to Mike’s website. I decided I had nothing to lose by getting in contact so I emailed Mike. He was very quick to respond and invited me down to the studio the following day for an informal chat and a show round. I was immediately put at ease from the moment I walked through the door and was made to feel extremely welcome. Shortly after, I had this sudden urge to get started so I signed up there and then and was in the studio the following morning for my first session (argh!!).
I was paired up with Stuart who is fantastic; he has pushed me hard and is awesome at keeping me motivated especially when I need to push through the “I can’t do this” barrier or I'm struggling to finish those last few reps. I initially only signed up for 12 sessions (6 weeks) but I’m now into my 20th week; training twice a week and loving every minute of it. With Stuart's guidance, I've trimmed down and gradually building lean muscle all over and I’ve really surprised myself at how far I’ve come. I have noticed a real change in my attitude to both food and exercise. I’m no longer intimidated by the various weights on offer or that “odd looking” machine I used to walk past at the gym. And who knew I would learn to love doing squats and lunges!!!
All jokes aside, I can’t recommend Mike and his team highly enough. I genuinely feel that all the PT’s care for their clients and want to support each and every one of us in achieving our own individual goals whether that is weight loss, building lean muscle or generally trying to increase your overall fitness level. Honestly get in contact, you won’t regret it!!!

I decided to get a personal trainer to help 'force' the motivation I was missing in the gym to get back in shape and what I didn't bargain for was that I was actually signing up for a whole lot more - I was getting a trainer, healthy eating adviser and most importantly a coach. And I couldn't be more grateful for this and the support I have been given. I never imagined that I was capable of the improvements I've seen so far and I now surprise myself in my own self belief that I can go even further. I can't thank or recommend Mike's Studio (particularly Stuart) any more.
I had struggled with a knee injury for over a year and I was nervous about going to a trainer; expecting to be forced into standard drills (like I've seen in other gyms) that would include high impact jumping about that I can't manage at this point. Straight off this was no issue to Mike and he aligned me to Stuart who has been completely flexible, working with me to find exercises that work for me. And the exercises are mixed up to push me but also tailored to what I enjoy (that's right - I enjoy training and I never thought I would ever say that about going to a gym!)
I've been working with Stuart and I can't fault his skill, enthusiasm and positivity. It has been hard work and there have been moments where I've really needed the support and he's never failed to deliver. He is a fantastic coach and as a trainer recognises capability that I didn't even know I had and is able to push me to do more than I could ever achieve on my own. He has given me great information on eating well and has put up with my endless questions as I navigate my way around breaking down the 30 years of bad habits that I've built up through diet fads and 'loose 5 lbs in 2 weeks' type magazine gimics and I now have a eating regime that I enjoy, is plentiful and is definitely not a diet!
I signed up for the 5 week block to loose 10lbs - I'm not that over weight so I didn't really think this would be possible as I only ever managed ~1lb a week off when I've tried myself. But I did loose it and more (I think it was almost a stone in total) and I'm signed up for another block as for the first time in my life I actually believe I can really get back in shape. I think the key thing for me has not just been about loosing the weight but everything that comes with it - the leaner body, increased fitness levels, the increase in positive mental attitude, coping with stress better, increased self esteem, more confidence, loads more energy and just generally feeling good about life!
My advice - contact Mike, you won't regret it! You'll never get the a** you want sitting on the one you've got!

I done 5 weeks fat burn then 7 weeks muscle tone at Mikes gym with Alex Szantai as my personal trainer. Both great guys. In my first 5 weeks fat burn i dropped from 18 st 10 Ibs down to 17 st. This is not like any other gym where you pay a large monthly membership where you either have to get on with it by yourself (hence why I never last long at exercising!) or have someone show you the machines but doesn't really show any interest (pass experiences)...NO, at this gym you have a personal trainer (mine is Greg Ellis, who looks like an accountant, lovely guy and is an excellent personal trainer who keeps me on track, and makes sure I make progress and helps me work toward my goals). No huge membership costs, you literally get what you pay for! I have lost a stone in a few weeks by going twice a week and watching what I eat, no silly starvation or sill diets and I FEEL GREAT! I initially joined as i knew i needed a bit of push in the right direction to improve my energy levels and also someone to to look at my nutrition as i've always ate healthy but i do have a large appetite. Luckily that's exactly what my trainer Stuart was able to easily do. He reviewed what i was eating at the end of last year and gave me regular feedback on what i was eating each week. I managed to slowly combine the tips he gave with regular trips to mikes gym - the result for me was that after a few months (including over xmas) i'd steadily lost around 10 1lbs just in time for trip abroad i was making. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first sessions here. Everything is simple and easy (not the workouts) but arranging times that suit, changing and you can park right outside, if you’re not walking. Everyone has been really friendly and helpful and it definitely doesn’t feel intimidating. It’s always quiet, there’s plenty of space and people are just getting on with what they’re doing. I’ve been working with Stuart and have felt I can ask anything about diet or exercise without feeling stupid and keeping a food diary totally helps you to see where you’re going wrong. The best bit for me though is that it’s fun. The workouts are varied and you don’t need to worry about how to use equipment or structure a routine which means you can just get on and enjoy it. I know I’d never push myself that hard if I was working out on my own and I’m so happy with the results. I can’t really explain it but I just feel so much better, and happier. I’m not as tired all the time and I can wear my favourite clothes again. The only downside- I think it might be addictive. :)

This place is not just a gym it helps you to understand how your body works and what fuel it needs. I would highly recommend this to anyone of any age and body shape. I have been going for the last month and with Matthew's help I have toned up, lost weight, become fitter and have more energy. It is hard work, and he will make sure you sweat, so don't be fooled that it will be an easy ride, far from it! Definitely worth it though, and Matthew makes it fun and interesting, always changing the exercises each time so it's not boring or dull. I am not a gym bunny by any means, and dreaded the thought of going, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. I have been a member of various gyms in Edinburgh, on and off, for the last 15 years but I have never really enjoyed it - maybe I found it difficult to push myself to get the results I wanted! In October 15, I signed up to personal training sessions with Aleksandra and I really haven't looked back. I go twice a week, once with my 14 year old daughter and once on my own, and we both really enjoy our sessions. Aleksandra is great, so encouraging, and just makes both of us feel as if we want to push a bit harder. Each session is different - we never get bored. The hour just flies by and even though we're both exhausted by the end of it, it's such an invigorating feeling and I wouldn't even think of cancelling a session because 'I can't be bothered.'
It's such a wide range of people who go there and I have never felt awkward or embarrassed that I couldn't do an exercise very well. All the trainers, whilst being incredibly friendly are fully focussed on getting results for their clients, and the equipment is excellent.

Craig is very knowledgeable, professional and good at kicking your butt! The gym's really well equipped and I've never been so fit in all my life. Really determined to keep the good work up now!

I am so happy that I joined the Mike Heatlie Personal Training community a little over a month ago. The first time I entered the gym I was so surprised at how positive the atmosphere was with both the staff and clients. Mike was so warm, welcoming, and easy to talk to at my first consult, and he matched me up with the most perfect trainer for me. Ruairi plans very hard, but equally effective workouts, and is always there with encouragement to help me through them. Every session is different and I'm finding that I actually enjoy working out now. I've lost almost 10 pounds already and am getting stronger every day. I'm loving the changes that I'm seeing and feeling with my body, and I highly recommend Mike Heatlie and Ruairi for anybody that is looking to make positive, healthy changes in their life. :)

Over the past 6 years I have had two kids (both c-sections), plus major stomach surgery and two ankle operations. Exercise was not really an option for me during all the recoveries and therefore I piled on the weight. At my heaviest I weighed in at 12 stone. I had pretty much had enough of feeling rubbish in my skin, as well as all my clothes and decided it was time to put the hard work in to make a difference. I found Mike Heatlie's gym on google and was assigned Craig as my trainer 4 weeks ago. Craig is brilliant and his sessions are tough but stepping on the scales each week and seeing the weight drop off is definitely worth it. It really is the best thing I've done in years and so far I've lost a stone :-)
