Reviews of Rory Ferguson - Personal Training
I started training with Rory about 6 months ago, and I’ve been loving our sessions. His approach to fitness is fun and refreshing, and I especially enjoy working on the movement skills. I am quite pleased with how much stronger I have become since we started. Rory is nice, patient, and supportive in helping me towards my goals. If you’re looking for a personal trainer and a fitness routine that you won’t get bored with, I highly recommend contacting him!
I was pleased to find Rory after searching for a personal trainer who didn't rely on gym equipment and could better relate exercise to practical real world experiences. I appreciate Rory's calm nature and the way he balances a methodical goal-driven approach with fun and engaging activities to help me achieve what I want to do in life. I'm grateful for Rory's adaptability, continuing our sessions when I've travelled around the country and when I've needed to try new things.
I've been working with Rory for about 7 months now and have seen significant improvements in my strength and endurance. The sessions are enjoyable and he's really easy to get along with. I also love that the sessions are outdoors - way better than doing boring reps at the gym. He does a great job developing a targeted program to help meet your individual goals, highly recommend if you're looking for a trainer.
Because of previous bad experiences and also the current C-19 situation I had not done any exercise other than a few indoor cycling and walking now and then - But then when I decided to give another chance, Rory had me active for an entire hour and at then end I was exhausted and in disbelief that he got me through an entire hour successfully!
Having him as a supportive, fun, dynamic and entertaining personal trainer to achieve my goals and development, has led me to just definitely enjoy working out and improving my wellbeing in general. Could not recommend him enough, he is always targeting to get the best and max potential out of you.
Despite starting from a bad place, it’s been easy and enjoyable to begin recovering my fitness with Rory.
Post lockdown my residual self-image of teenage athleticism was challenged like never before.
I almost hit 19 stone, wrongly assumed I had long-COVID when I couldn’t breath while jogging, and then tore the cartilage in my knee playing 5-a-side with friends.
I liked Rory’s website because of his focus on outdoor exercise and animal movements, but I was too immobile after years of sedentary computer work and injury to fit with his full concept.
In his characteristically relaxed and generous way Rory adapted to me.
He’s spent the last few months rebuilding my leg strength, helping me to avoid knee surgery. His advice and patient cajoling has helped me drop to almost 17 stone so far.
I’m now starting to be fit and strong enough to really get the most out of his wider approach to ‘moving with purpose’.
Rory is a softly spoken and inventive trainer that works in outdoor settings. He creates really interesting sets of exercises that often incorporate or use park / playground equipment as obstacles. He has also devised specific routines for me that replicate movements in tennis as I'm a keen player. I think he's very easy to get on with and he knows how much he can push you so the balance is just right. Highly recommend.
Rory has created a program for me where I actually look forward to my weekly PT session. His approach to personal training is fun and focused on my individual goals. Before we started I had a consultation where we talked about what I wanted to achieve and his style of personal training, after which I was excited to start. One of the things I enjoy most is to be training outside, using what the city and parks have to offer, such as climbing trees or jumping on and off city walls. My goals originally were to build strength and fitness specifically to help with outdoor sports, such as hiking, kayaking and skiing. This summer I have walked Schiehallion, hiked the Lost Valley, kayaked on River Tay, and have started to ski again. I can feel the difference these sessions have made to my body’s abilities and my confidence in saying yes to explore with friends. We are now working on balance, coordination and finesse with which I’ve always struggled and I’m pleased to see this is changing me in the best ways. In the past I’ve not been good at sticking to the gym, PTs or classes for more than three months, but I actively look forward to coming to my sessions with Rory as he always makes them interesting and will change things up enough to keeping my mind interested and my body working. Rory is a knowledgeable, empathetic PT and will adapt where needed and come up with new ideas to challenge me. If I’m having fun it’s not a chore, and I’m looking forward to continuing to build on and hit my goals with Rory.
Rory is accommodating of goals, life circumstances, and physical limitations. He keeps me focused on improving performance and technique at every set. He is always ready to try a new approach to keep work outs interesting or make a skill ‘click’. If you want a trainer that’s friendly and passionate about reaching potential, I fully recommend Rory.
Rory has been my PT for over 5 months now. Thanks to him not only I have lost weight but also gained confidence and changed the way I think about exercising. The sessions are fun and Rory is great in creating a plan that suits my needs. I used to prefer gym over outdoor but Rory has converted me. I recommend Rory to anyone who wants to be fit again or simply gain confidence in themselves.
I have been training 1:1 with Rory for a couple of months. His approach to exercise is so refreshing and fun. He sets clear goals and a plan for how I will achieve them and I already feel like I have made a lot of progress.
My sessions with Rory are always challenging but great fun and he is a very supportive and encouraging trainer. I would highly recommend Rory for anyone looking for PT sessions in Edinburgh.
