Personal Trainer Ed Thompson
Ed was recommended to me by a friend, who like me has physical difficulties.
Both my knees need replacing and I am overweight. I am 69 years old. I knew I would need help to reach the NHS requirements for my knee replacements in terms of weight and fitness. I needed expert help building up my muscle strength in my legs in a safe and sustainable way. Ed’s regime for creating strengthened leg muscles has been magic! After 3 months I have defined leg muscles which have also been beneficial for my swimming. My upper body is also worked on. Should I be below par (intermittent asthma) Ed takes this into consideration but doesn’t let me slack off.
I decided to be responsible for my weight loss, but Ed monitors and encourages it, and I am losing inches all over my body.
The whole experience has been very positive. I look forward to my sessions with Ed and my husband has now signed up for fitness help too. Ed is very professional but not in a bossy way.
Importantly Ed is flexible about session timing and understands that occasionally they may need changing (I try not to do this very often).
If you are looking for an empathetic trainer, who plans, listens, encourages and is not rigid then Ed is someone I would recommend with confidence.

I’ve been working with Ed for over 3 years and I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve loved every session! I never intended for it to be a long-term commitment but Ed made the gym become enjoyable rather than a chore plus the results that I’ve seen with my fitness, strength, energy-levels and physique were addictive so I continued. Once I achieved my first goals, I already had the next ones insight, Ed just adapted the workouts accordingly and pushed and encouraged me, with no Sargent Major in sight!
Even through lockdowns, we moved owere allowed) and also trained in my garden. Ed’s joined me on runs with my friends, he’s accompanied me on Park Runs. But the majority of our workouts have of course been at Total Fitness where Ed has introduced me to umpteen machines and pieces of equipment that I couldn’t have ever imagined using without his guidance.
He’s also helped my daughter and more recently my son, gain confidence in the gym, set targets and make progress.
Hopefully I’ll continue to work with Ed as long as he’s a PT working in this area! I’ve got my eyes set on a few more goals that I want to achieve before I’m 50! 😁
I’d recommend Ed to anyone but especially those who are new to the gym, wanting to see results in fitness and health and need kind, coaching guidance.
