I can’t recommend JB Fitness highly enough! Absolutely fantastic bunch of people – both the trainers and the clients, and you can’t help but absorb some of James’ positivity!
I started joining the classes in the summer after the first lockdown. In the past I have done a lot of gym classes and 1:1 personal training but have found this to be a much better balance – everything is personalised with a low ratio of trainers to participants so they can be very attentive and make sure we’re all practising good technique. They’re all very friendly and the whole experience is welcoming. There’s a good range of times and flexibility.
I’ve loved training regularly as part of a local group – perfect energising start to the day and keeping me on track with fitness. Thanks to James and the team for doing such a great job, keep up the good work!

JB fitness UK is amazing and I 100% recommend. I came to the classes having very little fitness and motivation to work out, I was also very self conscious about exercising in front of other people. All that changed when I met James, his work out programs are focused and diverse to keep it interesting. They are easy to fit into every day life as there is a good selection of times you can do. James and the team are incredibly encouraging and built my confidence up around working out. I have had amazing results from the work outs and now love working out.

I started training with James and the team in March 2020. Coming out of the last lockdown l was the most unfit I had been in years. Like many people, I'd put on weight and was lacking in energy, so really needed some motivation!
Right from the start, James made sure that the workouts were specifically tailored to me, and that I was always being challenged and making progress. I'd never done weight training before, but James and the team made it accessible and I'm now much more confident with it.
The whole team are really knowledgable, super friendly and supportive, which helped me keep on track - definitely no scary bootcamp shouting! I also found that having the accountability of someone expecting you for a training session was an extra motivator and helped me stay consistent.
Training regularly with JB Fitness has greatly improved my general level of fitness and motivated me to become much more active. I've recently completed my first half marathon, which seemed impossible back in March!
Whatever your fitness level, even if you're a complete beginner, I would definitely recommend training with JB Fitness.

I signed up to JB Fitness in 2019, at a time when I was traveling a lot for work and struggling to find classes that fit my schedule. I had also suffered multiple injuries in the past due to poor technique and irregular training patterns.
I was a little skeptical about the locale as classes don’t take place in a fitness studio, but I have since overlooked this given how well it’s worked for me.
The format offered by JB Fitness is great:
- when I was traveling for work, James helped me work around my schedule. He’s always a text away and very accommodating
- we train in small groups so the trainers can observe our technique and help us make adjustments to train safely and build strength
- the team take injuries into account when designing our individual programmes and propose variations / adjust weights accordingly
- the programme is varied, with new exercises/ equipment and circuit types introduced regularly
- I personally find it more fun and motivating to train in a group than individually
- all the trainers (James, Paige, Simon, Paul) are very professional and attentive, and above all motivate us to push ourselves and make the most of our sessions
Kudos to the team for keeping us going during the pandemic and seamlessly transitioning to online and outdoors classes so we don’t interrupt our routine!
I have now stuck to my routine with JB Fitness for 2 years, and I’m very pleased with the results as I am stronger and more toned. Regular training also helped with my mental health and resilience during what has been a very challenging year.

James and the team at JB Fitness provide an all-round excellent service, whatever your fitness needs or goals.
We started training with James around 3 years ago simply to establish a fixed exercise routine within a hectic work schedule. We mainly do one-on-one sessions and we’ve also taken part in a few group sessions run by the brilliant JB Fitness team. Both types of session are great.
Aside from being completely motivated to help us feel healthier and stronger, James is a total pleasure to work with. He has a really personable, inclusive style and is encouraging
and flexible in his approach. He’s also been amazingly adaptable throughout the pandemic, sharing regular tips and advice regarding physical fitness, mental wellbeing, home gym equipment and nutrition. Above all, James is a constant source of positive vibes!

JB Fitness is amazing! The staff are incredible, the community so wonderful to be a part of, and the benefits of training this way are phenomenal.
I started with a months trial and quickly got hooked! James and the team care so much and are dedicated to supporting you through your fitness journey. They are highly professional and such warm people, they just make you want to work hard! During the pandemic they pivoted the business to work just as well online as it did in person, with the personal touch that makes JB Fitness so special.

I have been training with the fantastic JB team for about 2 years now and plan to continue. I’ve recommended friends who also love the personal approach (tailored routines) and the social aspect (small group training). I’ve always found weights workouts a really effective way to maintain body tone and with James and the team you know you can build on your weights and routines safely to achieve your goals. Even through lockdown the last year, the team has worked hard to give us safe and effective workouts remotely on zoom, through reduced sized sessions, outdoor sessions, and with all the necessary hygiene adjustments based on government recommendations at the time. It’s not the cheapest option for training, but for something that gets results and you enjoy enough to actually stick with, I highly recommend.

I’ve been training with Team JB for about 15 months, and can’t recommend it enough. I had zero gym experience before tentatively reaching out to Coach James and I am so glad I did. James explained how the sessions work (small group training or one to one) and the times that are offered (a lot!). I chose one to one sessions and a time slot that worked for me - and I’ve never looked back. I now mainly train with Paige (who is a total superstar and even makes working out fun) twice a week. My sessions are carefully tailored to what I am seeking to achieve and I even look forward to them. In more usual times we work out in the church on Highbury fields, but the transition to online was seamless. In short, Team JB (James, Paige and Louis) are fantastic! Certainly Highbury’s finest 👍

I’ve been going to JB Fitness for 2 years now and this review is long overdue. Just FYI, I have never been a fan of exercise/working out and honestly, when I first joined, I never thought I would still be doing it 2 years later given my attitude toward fitness ;). But James and his coaches have been brilliant and I don’t know that I would still be doing this 2 years later with another trainer.
When I first started looking into JB Fitness, I was definitely out of shape and just had a very painful knee injury. I explained this to James, shared my general attitude toward exercise and what I wanted to accomplish - to get in better shape.
My less than enthusiastic attitude toward exercise and the knee injury were not barriers for James; he worked around those pieces and always has.
I also travel quite a bit for work (pre-pandemic) and needed flexibility. JB Fitness has always worked around my schedule. Either with the various number of sessions available throughout the week, or if I have to be gone on holiday or a work trip, JB Fitness is always able to figure out a solution. That alone has been incredible - to get personal training that can work with my schedule.
I started with 2 sessions per week. And the only competition is with yourself. I use the small group personal training sessions, which I prefer much more to having a 1:1 training session. You see/work out with other people who are also competing with themselves and not competing with you and we all have the same goal…to do this for ourselves.
And do not get me wrong, the workouts are challenging. You have to be ready to sweat and push yourself. But James and his coaches know what is the right pace for you and if something proves too tough, adjustments are made to suit you (or if you have an injury!).
James and his coaches 100% listen to you and what you can do, what you’re ready for and what you’re not ready for. They will encourage you along the way without being too heavy on the pressure.
If you are wanting help with nutrition and weight loss, James helps with that too.
For me, it is unlikely that I will ever be a fan of exercise, but I have stuck with this for 2 years. And I don’t intend on stopping. In fact, I have increased from 2 sessions a week to 3 sessions a week.
With the Covid-19 situation, we had to move from physically meeting together to doing sessions on Zoom. And those sessions on Zoom have not been any easier or less effective :). I still see my same fellow workout members as I saw when we met physically, it’s just on video!
James and his coaches have just made alterations to the workouts to be conducive to what we can do in our small spaces and with less equipment.
When I skip a session or have missed a week, I notice it mentally. I don’t want to miss sessions. They completely help me unplug/disconnect mentally, get that break for my brain while making my body stronger and my stress is much more manageable because of the workouts.
I definitely feel and look better since I started with JB. I could notice an increase in my strength and flexibility in those first weeks and have been impressed with how my strength has increased. I have definitely met my goal to be in better shape. Now, it’s time to determine my next goal!
Overall these are the things I love about it:
- Total flexibility: both with the times/amount of available sessions and flexible to have workouts that are really for you
- Really kind, generous and encouraging trainers with James and his coaches
- That I have continued to do this two years after trying some trial sessions!

James and his team are without doubt the best personal training team I've worked with. I joined just over a year ago and have seen huge improvements in both my fitness and strength.
The team are very professional and plan every class so you always feel looked after and also know your progress is both planned and observed. I've also never been pushed too far (I sustained some injuries with a previous trainer so this was a worry for me). Classes are small which means you get the right level of personal attention but work harder to keep up with the class.
Finally, I should say that the group is really friendly and supportive so I actually look forward to classes! The classes have been a lifeline during the lockdown and have meant my fitness didn't deteriorate. I actually enjoy online classes - who knew!

James is a great professional and really pays attention to everyone in the class making sure the movements are done in the correct manner, that the posture is fine and he also adapts exercises according to individuals' needs. I do feel stronger and have more energy since I started training with JB Fitness.
I also felt very motivated to go to the classes, something I never felt when going to regular gym chains.
The online booking system is very practical and the newsletters we receive are very interesting and informative.

I joined the JB Fitness sessions at the start of the year on a friend's recommendation and it has been a throughly enjoyable and rewarding experience.
I am an active and fit person, but had never before done any weight-based exercise. The format of small groups is the perfect compromise between a personalised approach and a sensible price level. Each person's session is tailored to their needs and ability, so you really feel looked after. I love that James and the other coaches Paige and Louie know that I like to be challenged and they push me. They take into account any injuries and aches or pains to ensure the sessions are safe and really work for you.
After just over five months of attending sessions twice a week, I feel so much stronger and leaner. On top of that the sessions are fun and not at all intimidating as some fitness sessions can be.
During Covid-19 where we haven't been able to meet in the usual hall the sessions went online and, although you don't have the same experience as being in the same room, the classes have been really rewarding and I imagine for some people they are preferable to travelling to the hall. I will be heading to the outdoor sessions as much as I can, but the mix of physical and virtual sessions offers an option for people.
I had no real expectations beforehand, I just wanted to get stuck in and where it took me. The sessions are now an important part of my week.

I've really enjoyed my time working with James and the guys at JB fitness. Before joining I was a serial gym joiner who would never attend, claiming life was too hectic. Getting into a regular morning routine wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be, and seeing the same friendly faces and chatter during warm up made the sessions enjoyable. I trained with JB Fitness UK for 8 months last year. I was very unfit when I started but felt myself making real strides with the help of James and Julia. By the end of my time with them, I was stronger and fitter.

I joined JB Fitness on October 2019. I was recommended by a friend... So i tried the Tasting Session and I absolutely enjoyed it! I have never done this type of routine so was afraid about not likinig it... Now... I can't skip any class! And if I do - i certainly do the catch ups!!. Paige is amazing, she pushes us to challenge ourselves. I've trained with her most of the times. Louie is great as well (have trained with him 3 times). And James... well James is like Jiminy Cricket... Sending motivational messages, worried about your health and your issues and pushing you a bit more. I can't ask for anything else! I feel I train with friends and have a good time... Ah! And my friends keep complimenting me through the results I'm getting! I absolutely... LOVE IT!!!

Training with James at JB Fitness has been fantastic.
I took part in the fit and toned 8 week program and my strength and muscle tone has increased tremendously.
Unfortunately I was taken ill during the program but James was great about it and was really supportive about the whole thing have been able to carry forward some of my sessions to use this year.
James is a fantastic trainer to work with, so much so that once these session are done I have signed up with him for the rest of the year as my PT.
I have enormous faith in him to help my get back to where I want to be following the birth of my daughter and would recommend him highly to anyone who asks!

I have spent the first 28 years of my life doing no physical exercise at all (apart from the occasional 5-a side football game). When I decided to stop being lazy I joined a gym and started going 5 times a week. It was great as I lost a lot of weight and built some muscles, So far so good. But after 6 months of intense training, I got really bored by the program I was following, I was not progressing anymore, it was repetitive and frustrating. I felt I was losing quite a lot of time every week and I was looking for sustainable progress so I decided to leave the gym.
I decided to contact James in May 2014 as I was looking for a personal trainer with whom I could train outdoor. After giving a bit of background regarding what I did in the past and what I was looking for, James came up with a program that I liked and I decided to give it a go.
After doing more than 70 JB sessions, I think it is time to comment on the past:
*Training:
The progress has been phenomenal. I have improved my cardio and strengthened my leg muscles massively. I can now easily run a 5km in less than 25min whereas my best was 30min before. My core and upper body are far stronger than six months ago.
Even if our sessions are at the oddest hours, I am always eager to train. Every session is structurally different from the others: new exercises, new weights, and new constraints. But bear in mind that James is not here to entertain you, not at all! The sessions are fun but extremely tough, with my heart rate often getting to 190bpm.
Each session combines kettle bells, TRX, body weight exercises, running and the deadly battle ropes. After doing 3 sessions per week (1h each) for 6 months, my body fat has dropped significantly and I replaced all that weight with lean muscle, which was my primary objective.
*Nutrition:
James has helped me a lot to have a proper diet in place (more protein, less dairy has helped me a lot).
*Availability:
James is extremely professional and dedicated so can really accommodate any schedule. My working hours are quite long and I don't want training to overlap with my parental duties, so we train either at 5.30am or 8pm. I can also reach out to James at any time if I have a question of want to do some bits of training at home and want a personalized plan.
*Social media:
James is everywhere, twitter, great newsletters, emails.I find that extremely refreshing! It makes the exercise routine part of the lifestyle.
*Injuries:
I want to mention also the importance of having a good trainer when it comes to avoiding injuries. James made me understand the importance of warming up and stretching before starting an intense 1h session. As a 30 years old guy, you think that it is all about how much you can lift. But if you want to keep progressing, you need to do it right. When I was going to the gym, I had frequent lower back pains and shoulder pains. Why? Simply because I did not understand the technicality of physical exercise. It is all about the move, if you don't do it right not only it is useless but it can be dangerous. Something as simple as lunges is often done wrongly and becomes completely ineffective (think about which leg is supposed to work). Do a dead lift with the wrong posture and you will hurt yourself.
My only injury this year (fingers crossed) was what I thought was a knee injury that manifested when I was running. I told the physio about it and told me it is probably the ITB and that I need to let it rest. I told James about it and he told me it is definitely the ITB and gave me a plan to fix it. Again all about strengthening leg muscles and proper stretching.
Whether you are a complete beginner or an accomplished athlete, please do yourself a favor and train with a professional, call James Bramwell.
