From my first trial flight a year ago through to completion of my Skills Test yesterday the team have gone above and beyond to make sure the experience has been fantastic. Jim McBrinn has carried out virtually all of my training and the effort he has put in to get me to this stage still amazes me from the first flight his passion for flying is infectious and you cant help but get hooked. He has a way of building your confidence and continually pushing you to improve there were many times when i just thought i will never be able to do this but then suddenly it all starts to click. I have never seen or heard of a flight school with such a fantastic team of instructors and support staff and just seeing how full the diary for flights gets is testament to how great a job they do. If anyone is thinking of starting there journey towards becoming a pilot you will not find a better place to start than LAC and if your extra lucky maybe even managing to get Jim as your instructor. Thanks again for everything.

My experience of LAC Flying School has been excellent. I was flying fixed wing microlights and wanted to convert to a full EASA PPL(A) and didn't know where to start.
LAC helped me with everything, including the ground school and I am now just waiting for the licence to drop on my doorstep from the CAA.
Helpful, friendly, competitively priced and I find the aircraft very good to fly. I have done almost 100 hours with their aircraft now and working towards being an airline pilot having started the ATPL(A).
My personal experience means I can only say only good things about LAC.

Went to LAC flying school yesterday to take a trial lesson and also surprise my dad as a passenger, I already have some flying experience so I was allowed to conduct most of the flight and our instructor Martin was still able to show me some tips and tricks, that I didn’t learn at my flight school! Martin was fantastically knowledgable about the history of the Manchester area and made the flight even more enjoyable! Kate deserves a mention for arranging everything for me when I live in western Canada with a 7 hour time difference! She was brilliant! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this flying school for anybody looking to learn to fly - especially to learn the sadly diminishing art of hand flying with real instruments! Thanks Again!!!

I took my dad for a flying lesson with Rob, he was professional, informative and nothing was too much trouble. My dad had an amazing experience and will be a day he will always remember. Thanks 😊

A balanced review.
First thing to remember is, flying is a serious business not to be taken lightly. Safety is at the forefront of everything that is done at LAC Flying School.
As a new student I cannot recommend LAC highly enough.
They are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and always have your safety as their highest priority.
Is it easy? No!
learning to fly is a big ask, even of a young person. There is so much to remember, and LAC make sure you do, always remember.
The instructors have nerves of steel, which is a good job when you’re 100ft off the ground and you’ve become overwhelmed by your surroundings.
If you just fancy the idea of being a pilot but don’t have the commitment, you’ll soon find out if you’re cut out for it.
If you think about it, your life is on the line, the lives of the people who live in the houses on the approach to Rwy 26 are on the line, as well as everyone else on the ground as you fly above them.
On my first lesson, within ten minutes of taking off my instructor handed the controls over to me and the lesson began in earnest. Learning to climb, turn and descend. The hour shot past and on return to the airport I was drenched.
It’s not like getting into a car and driving off. Checklists to taxi the aircraft, take up to fifteen minutes to get through. Then power checks and pre take off checks.
Within 4 or five lessons my instructor let me do my first take off. What an experience that was. Today it feels like its normal, but back then it was a heart stopper.
Landings soon follow then stalling and into the circuit for different types of landings in all weather conditions, Go arounds and practice emergency landings.
My Instructor is a fantastic chap called Martin, with 20,000 plus hours under his belt, I sometimes wonder if he needs a plane to fly in, but even he says it’s a continuing process, every flight is different, every landing is different.
I looked at six schools before deciding on LAC flying school. Took trial flights at three, and settled on LAC for the following reasons.
1. Aircraft are maintained to exacting standards.
2. The Instructors push you, and set high standards.
3. The ground staff are helpful at all times.
4. The airfield is challenging.
5. Fees are well priced.
How much will it cost?
That all depends on you. From 6k to 10k is a reasonable guestimate for a LAPL if you’re average, and remember if your older (like me) it takes a little longer to remember everything.
I passed my PPL(A) in May 2019 at the first attempt, cost in total was 12k

Had a amazing hour discovery flight with Jim

Amazing place. Friendly staff, new bar and restaurant and a seating area to watch the planes fly. There is also a kids playground area.

An amazing bunch of people who do everything they can, to help.
The only SLIGHTLY negative part of the experience, so far, is the weather and, THAT is beyond their control.
Highly recommended.
