He completed our work before his deadline and the images he created for us are outstanding! Tommy's creativity and attention to detail are superb and he surpassed our expectations so much that we have given him our next project! I have only known Tommy Hatwell for a short time whilst being a keen admirer and follower of his photographic work. I find Tommy to be an exceptional photographer who has a great talent for capturing a moment in time that in itself tells a thought-provoking story to its audience. Tommy gave us a really great evening at Wellington on Wednesday 6.11.2019 with his talk 'Round the world and back again' We are now looking forward to the sequel! Tommy spoke with feeling about the way he uses photography to create long-term relationships and to help build better lives. Initially you might have doubted that a person whose lifestyle seemed to revolve around water sports and a complete disregard for his own personal safety, could achieve so much in just over 30 years - but he has. What appeared to be a life made up of random events and decisions was also one which showed some shrewd planning and an ability to sum up possibilities. Sometimes travel photography can seem to be exploitative but in Tommy's case it is far more a case of 'giving back'. His mantra is 'Every image has a name and every image is earned . Our engagement with Tommy was a direct result from his work with The Cornish Arms and Church Lane. From our initial meeting with Tommy in our home, we knew instantly that Tommy would understand the style and charm we wanted to capture in our photo shoot. We have just received the full set of images. No amends or retouching required. A mix of architectural, full room and ident photographs were supplied, we began using them instantly. It is without any doubt that our surge of recent room bookings has been generated from the new images displayed on our various third party profiles, our own website and the collateral we have had produced and distributed. Review of Tommy Hatwell’s Talk, ‘Around the World and Back Again’, to Wimborne Camera Club on 1st March 2021. A real insight into an exceptional young Photographer, whose passion is very evident. This passion is not just for the photography of the people he meets, but for the relationships he builds with them. During his talk he lays bare his photographic journey, from a complete novice through his is experience at Plymouth University, where he gained a BA (Hons) commercial photography degree, to his significant involvement in charity work in Uganda. Tommy is an inspiring speaker, delivering the best talk I've ever heard on photography and his journey through it. He does this by being much more than a photographer, the relationships he forms with people, for instance the community he's a part of in Uganda, make you see photography as way to connect and empower others, and share their stories. He communicates all this back to you in an honest way, not buttering anything up or seeing his experiences through rose tinted glasses. The result - you believe him, and are inspired by him. Secondly, he's uncompromisingly self motivated, having created a whole life and a network of people from a dream he had in New Zealand. As a scout leader I took a party of 14 young people to listen to one of Tommy's lectures and photographic display from his travels. The scouts were enthralled. Perhaps the biggest compliment I can give is the fact that he inspired some of the young people in my group to assess their own future and give them aspirations of travel and a will to find out more about the world. Parents of my scouts have remarked on the fact that after their children came home they followed up on what they saw that night and of their own accord used the internet to do further resurch. The workshop with tommy was really helpful as I now know how to use aspects of my camera that I have spent years avoiding. He also made it easy to understand what settings do what, which setting would be best for shooting certain things and with certain lenses.
