I saw Claire for a knee issue that had been plaguing me for the best part of 2-3 years. I was very concerned that I bad damaged cartilage in my knee and that was me stuck. She was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and quickly ascertained that my fears were entirely unnecessary. She helped change my mindset around the injury so that I could a tally consistently work on the muscles that needed to be strengthened to fix the problem, something I hadn't been doing for fear of further injury. 6 weeks later and I have run my first pain-free 5k in years. I can't say how much of a positive milestone that is for me and I am extremely grateful for Claire's help and calm professionalism.

Yes indeed must recommend Claire MacKelvie “Getting you Moving” is no idle boast. I consulted Claire just as my husband was talking about knee scans and all that flows from that! Claire’s positive, can-do, constructive advice re my persistently painful stiff knee was first class. Claire asked searching questions and provided a wholly new approach to tackling arthritic knee pain. Everything she said made sense. She told me stuff I didn’t know and above all gave me the confidence to get me moving. Result: I felt confident enough to go skiing and to get back on the hill!!! Without her insight and fine judgement none of this would have been possible. My only regret seriously is not to have consulted Claire sooner. Thank you so much.

I've had periodic episodes of calf trouble when running. At my partner's suggestion (she had consultations with Claire) I had an initial consultation plus one follow up appointment with Claire. The experience? Professional, supportive, encouraging and constructive. The outcome? I've been able to run 5K three times in the last week. The conclusion? In the nicest possible way, I hope that I don't need to see Claire again, but wouldn't hesitate to return for further consultations if required and would recommend Claire if you need physio services and support.

I had been getting calf problems for a couple weeks, Shona quickly discovered there was no damage and that my problem was most likey due to muscle spasm. Had a traumatic experience during the year; fell down a flight of stairs , and ran without shoes on and ended up having pains up and down my legs and persistent pain in my back. I decided to go to physio here because I had convinced myself that my back was never going to be the same again, and I knew I needed help. After explaining the situation during my first session not only did I get the physical help I needed, Claire ( I think, I am so sorry if I've named the wrong physiotherapist) spoke to me like I was a real person, helped me understand what I went through, she made me stop feeling like I was being dramatic over my trauma and even explained how the feelings I was repressing were presenting physically. I was given exercises to do, and breathing techniques that could be done at home, and advise was given. I found after my session I reclaimed my ability to sleep soundly, and I was pushing my body more instead of treating it as something fragile. I visited again last week, I have come leaps and bounds since my first session, I don't think I would be doing as well as I am without your help. I could not recommend West End Physio more! I am incredibly thankful for all the help!

I cannot recommend Claire highly enough. I saw her after a nearly two-year stint of crippling pre/postnatal pelvic pain and "instability" (couldn't lift my children, sleep in a normal position, do impact exercise, sit cross-legged, or move naturally in the world) and was back to near normal within a month. In addition to this miracle (or, rather: her impeccable up-to-date research and expertise), Claire is warm and supportive and makes you feel like you've just popped into your pal's for a cup of tea. I left every session feeling proactive and positive and knowing she (quite literally) had my back. And, more importantly, that I had everything I needed to get back to the best parts of my life. I'm now dealing with a knee issue, but I know I'm in the best possible hands at West End.

After 2 months of struggling to get pain free from a hip/back running injury I finally decided to see a physio. Shona gave me a whole new way to look at injuries i.e. you don't always have to wait until you're pain free to start running again, and in a lot of cases the way to get rid of your pain is actually to keep running. I was sceptical at first, but the advice was spot on. After getting a plan to gently ease myself back into running and increase my distances gradually each week, the pain started to subside and within a month I was running 10K+ and fully pain free. I just wish I had gone to see her sooner!

As a retired surgeon, with a chronic back condition and previous surgery. Shona Houston's accurate assessment and treatment plan was transformative, based on her great experience, academic credentials and professional skill, and I can only give my highest recommendation. So often medical and surgical treatment does of course help, but a physiotherapist can make such a difference to one's life, so I would advise making contact sooner rather than later. Further to the above, I have subsequently had treatment from Shona at home, after major surgery for a fractured femur with replacement of a hip prosthesis, without which it would not have been possible to return to previous activities, (the NHS being unable to provide such a service.) Uncomplicated first time hip replacements may be routine, but complex hip surgery requires personal, consistent, follow up physiotherapy, which if it can be provided in one's home environment, can make such a difference. In this day and age it is so difficult to get personal attention, and I can only give my highest recommendation for all the services provided by West End Physio, we are lucky to have them on hand.

During my recovery from frozen shoulder during lockdown I needed advice and support as well as stretching and strengthening exercises. Assessments and consultations took place over Zoom and worked perfectly. If you're in any doubt whether online physiotherapy might work for you then my experience is that it gave me exactly what I needed. Shona recorded videos of exercises and shared them with me via WhatsApp - so I can still refer to them now to make sure I'm doing everything right. In some respects this is even better than having consultations in person. My recovery would not have been possible without this support. I am virtually pain free and close to regaining a full range of movement in my shoulder.

Take one overweight ex-runner with a sore knee, apply expert assessment and support from Shona, and lo and behold I've just ran my first 5KM in about 12 years! From initial appointment and the assessment of my 'injury' - which turned out to be nothing like what 4 previous people had said - I was soon working through exercises and got back to running and walking with NO PAIN! Results were, literally, instant from the first walk. Turns out my knee pain was more about how I was moving my body which was, in turn, the result of an injury when I was about 15 yrs old. Sorting out my gait, re-strengthening years of a slight limp (which I didn’t even notice I was doing), and the first long walk after that revelation I felt no pain at all in my knee. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I visited West End Physio for some experience as a physio student. Shona and Molly were both so lovely and welcoming! I shadowed Shona and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. She was not only great with the patients but was also an amazing teacher - I learnt so much in my short time there. The physio assessment is very special whereby patients are viewed as individuals and not just as their “painful back” etc. This holistic approach enabled Shona to understand the patients pain and provide personalised management/treatment strategies to combat it. I went along to West End Physio for some back pain I had been experiencing and was advised to seek physio by my coach/trainer. I booked my appointment with Shona. I wasn't sure what to expect from physio but it was nothing like what I ended up getting. I was blown away by my experience here at West End Physio and by Shona. I went in on my first appointment expecting to here I wouldn't be able to continue with my training, that I has torn a muscle or something along those lines. Instead I spent the time with Shona discussing the pain and potential causes. We went over the last 2.5 years of my life and we both ended up in tears! What we had discovered was that I was actually holding emotional pain in my body! This was eye opening to me and Shona was so supportive and lovely about it. It had turned out I was putting far to much pressure on myself and push pain into a physical form rather than an emotional one. We also then discovered that my shoulder and jaw had been doing the same thing and that this had been going on for years, Shona has helped me release my jaw and neck. My back pain is gone now and the shoulder and neck are getting better every day they will probably take a little longer due to the amount of years I have been pushing my pain into them! Thanks to Shona I have managed to discover a deeper level of myself, that I can now deal with each day. I am so grateful to her for all she has done for me, her level of understanding. I can ensure this is nothing like what I thought it was going to be, but it was sooo much more in all the good ways! So, thanks soo much to her for that! :) I cannot recommend them enough to anyone.

Went to WEPL with a very annoying and painful heel that I’d had for months. Michelle Bowman was absolutely wonderful! Diagnosed it right away and explained the problem very clearly. I attended west end physio over a month ago with agonising neck pain.there I was seen by Shona. I was given an exercise programme(that I continue to do daily)and slowly but surely the pain ebbed away.
