Reviews of Alan Richardson Rolfing

Synopsis: Alan is brilliant and thorough in his treatments. I have been going to Alan for 9 years now. So I have a lot of experience and have spent a lot of time in Rolfing. Alan works out of his home where his lovely wife and daughter also live. It is a warm and safe environment. I have seen young women and men as well as older women and men come for appointments. I know he has treated injured dancers and car crash victims. He solved my yoga instructor friend's lower back issues.
History: Alan suggested I do the normal course of 11 treatments as a start. It was so beneficial to my back and my neck and in releasing the pain from an old injury to my right ankle that I continued to go weekly. I then began to go as I felt I needed it. In my profession that meant often as I work long and extended hours at my piano and my writing desk!
I mentioned my right ankle before. It gives me a lot of trouble because 20 years ago I broke it and had surgery on it and each time it starts to play up I go see Alan and he sorts it out beautifully. I feel like I’m walking like a completely different person after a treatment. Lighter and more agile.
I also have a bad habit of slouching and something called Sway back. Thanks to Alan’s treatments those issues have nearly disappeared. I have also suffered from neck and upper back pain for a long time and those issues too are nearly gone thanks to Alan’s treatment.
Now it may sound like I’m simply praising Rolfing itself but I do want to make it clear that I feel Alan has a perfectly amazing approach. He’s caring and considerate and he works attentively and with great care. The atmosphere is comfortable and I always feel confident when I go to see him that I’m going to leave there feeling much better. I highly recommend Alan as a Rolfing therapist and I highly recommend Rolfing so if you are considering these things I would suggest that you hesitate no longer.

I first saw Alan several years ago after being thoroughly impressed by a demonstration he gave at a public talk. I had various postural issues and a very poor awareness of my own body. I went through the Rolfing ten series with Alan and it helped me to really loosen up and improve my posture tremendously. I feel that Alan's intervention came at a great time for me and alerted me to what I think would have otherwise become a download spiral into a world of back problems and other posture related issues.
Alan comes across as very experienced and knowledgeable about Rolfing and the body. He has an excellent sense for what is going on with my body, usually noticing things before I am aware of them. Alan is very easy to get on with and has always made me feel at ease for our sessions. If you are looking at doing some sort of body work and Rolfing has caught your eye, then I highly recommend you going to see Alan. He has been a fully certified Rolfer for years, and his experience really shows.

I have been seeing Alan for over 2 years now. The initial 11 step programme was amazing and went a long way to rectifying years of asymmetric sporting activity, particularly in my lower back. Further sessions have substantially improved my posture and alignment and capacity to continue playing regular sports. Alan has a fantastic ability to look at how I stand and diagnose where my body requires treatment, and I always leave his sessions feeling more balanced and aligned. I would thoroughly recommend Alan to anyone looking for rolfing treatment.

Alan is amazing! I've been seeing him for a few years now. I initially went because someone who had done his research said he was one of the UK's best rolfers and he had fixed what had been very persistent back pain. At the time, I was having foot and lower back issues that weren't improving anymore via physios. And since doing rolfing with Alan, I've never looked back! My pains have disappeared and having the one-off top-ups helps keeps things at bay. Alan always creates a fantastically inspiring environment, safe, life-affirming, funny, kind and creative - and all the time whilst also ironing out any stiffness and various body niggles. I cannot recommend Alan highly enough.

Alan is an experienced Rolfer, and a truly kind person - a tonic for both body and soul. I was amazed at how much my posture was improved and able to be rebalanced through the Series with Alan. The change was amazing, I was standing upright and looking ahead for the first time (instead of down at the floor!), and I also felt more confident. As well as in my day to day, it was in Pilates I noticed the big improvement - my Pilates teacher had made the recommendation. Suddenly I had more flexibility, and the right muscles were now free to be worked more accurately so as to support the improvements made with Alan. I still visit Alan regularly for a top up, and I continue to be wowed by how work on one part of the body can make such a difference to a completely different part, and in turn help to reset my posture.

I highly recommend Alan Richardson to anyone who is experiencing chronic pain due to an injury or a structural imbalance. I myself am trained in Swedish massage. In my twenties I took the entire Rolfing sequence. As a former bodywork pracitioner I appreciate that Alan keeps his skills fresh by constant study and by teaching. Alan has what I call "listening hands". His patient, gentle but persistent approach works wonders on stubborn pain. I also appreciate that he keeps an open mind about what kinds of bodywork might best help the client in front of him. Now in my mid-60s, a lifetime of structural issues and use/overuse problems have "come home to roost". I rely on Alan to help me to function to the best of my ability.

I have seen Alan for a few years after having a problem with my lower back. I was new to rolfing and had been recommended to Alan from a friend. Alan has been excellent, he sorted my back issue in a supportive and practical way. I would highly recommend him.

What is a therapeutic personality?
* a willingness to connect and engage
* long professional experience
* warmth
* understanding
* curiosity
* an open heart
* - that's Alan Richardson for you.
* Thanks for the cheque Alan.
* That was a joke.
* Seriously the moment he greets you and assesses your posture, a session with Alan is like a physical and emotional spa. However good I feel at the start I feel better afterwards.
* Don't take my word for it - make an appointment with this fine, safe, practitioner with a sense of humour.

After completing the initial Rolfing series with Alan a few years ago I decided to continue seeing him on a regular basis to help balance and reset my body in and around all the strenuous physical activities I engage in. Alan's knowledge of, and sensitivity to the body is second to none and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to gain more balance, ease and efficiency in their body. He's also a jolly nice chap!

Alan is a hugely experienced rolfer. I saw him for the rolfing series a few years ago and that made a great difference to my posture and various aches and pains. Since then I have been seeing him intermittently and it is always so helpful. I highly recommend him.
