Reviews of Bertha's Pizza
M. “. D.
With the rise of quality pizza places, the small differences are what make a good pizza a great pizza.
Bertha's is a good pizza place, all the elements are there, good pizza oven, quality ingredients, good cheese. But unfortunately the slight lack of crispness to the base means that each slice fails to have that little bit of snap, which makes the beautiful dough just chewy. This combined with the ever so slightly too watery tomato make the the pizza floppy.
Please don't take this to mean that this is a bad pizza, it is very good. The cheese is excellent, the tomato has beautiful flavour and is thick (and a bit watery) and the base has incredible charring which gives a wonderful flavour.

First Bertha's in two years and god I've missed them. Hands down the best pizza in Bristol (and amazing gelato for afters).

We are visiting Bristol from the US, and my nephew took us to this place for dinner. He'd never been there before, but we were looking forward to trying it. The atmosphere is nice, but in looking at the menu, one of the first things we noticed is that there's a 12.5% gratuity added to every order. It doesn't matter the size of your party, it's just added on regardless of the quality of service you get. This was especially interesting as most of England still don't expect tips for things. Anyway, we ordered 4 pizzas, and the range was from about 11.5 GBP to 15 GBP. Not a horrible price, but the pizzas were not huge. Good for one person each. We ordered drinks, and the prices were pretty average. Our disappointment came when the pizzas were delivered. All but one were scorched in a number of places, and the taste permeated the whole pizza. We didn't return them, but ate what we could. They did give us a discount at the till, but the pizzas shouldn't have been presented that way. We've heard that they have fabulous gelato, but we didn't have time for dessert, so I cannot comment on that. We left feeling that the meal was just "meh". I don't know if I would return, unless it was to try the gelato.

Absolutely loved it:)). Super nice staff, really delicious pizzas and even better ice cream. It’s really worth a visit.
I personally can be picky about food, but when the waitress noticed my uncertainty about if I would like the mushrooms, she offered to bring a small amount to try (they where yummy and I was really thankful, because I probably wouldn’t have ordered them, before knowing).
We even found some Pizza for my brother who doesn’t likes tomatoes, which also was really practical:).
It was just generally a really lovely place, where you came in and felt like home.
S. P.
Have tried a couple of pizzas here which were amazing, beers and ice cream are good too.

Great spot for a quick dinner, seating upstairs and outside. Really friendly service and fun tunes. Negronis and good drink selection. Get the three dipping sauces for your crust (aioli, hot honey and chili). Dough is delicious, thin base, chewy sourdough crust. I wasn’t inspired by any of the pizza choices ended up getting the buffalina margarita, it was good but not amazing. Would go back if in the area.

Some really interesting pizzas that tasted great! I loved the friendly casual service that made everyone instantly feel like a friend. The storied trousers in the bathroom were a great addition too.
R. L.
Had an absolutely fabulous retirement party here. Miguel was a perfect host, we booked the whole place for the evening. The pizzas kept coming and were high quality as ever. Great atmosphere, great barman …perfect evening . Thankyou

Easily the best pizza ive had in Bristol
Great location (large car parks near by)
Great/ pleasant staff
Good size pizzas at a good price especially when you consider the quality of ingredients.
Ice cream / gelato for dessert is a must!
Nice One Graham

Ordered it on delivery today after my friends recommendation! Loved all three of them and the texture of the dough is phenomenal :)!! The umami bomb was such a new flavour but really delicious :)!! The dip was very garlicky so if you like garlic definitely a must item :) Zucca was also such a new flavour but worked so well and definitely recommend as well ! Would love to try their gelato as well!

Amazing pizza. The best I have had outside of Italy and I have had the pleasure of eating in Rome and Bari (my wife's home town), the best Marinara I have had was in Bari. A few vegan options here which to me was essential.
The one star off is because I think overall it is pretty expensive, but maybe I am just expecting too much prices that are competitive with Italian pizza. In Italy you can get perfect Marinara for £3 to £4
J. D.
One of the best pizzas I’ve had in Bristol! Everything about it was perfect and the service was great. They also have a wide range of vegan options! Can’t wait to come back!!

We had a lovely meal at Bertha’s Pizza. The place is really well designed and decorated. The service is good (particularly helpful with food allergies) and the price of the pizza is pretty reasonable.
Nice small selection of pizza toppings which I much prefer to places that have pages and pages of dishes on the menu.
I’d recommend a visit.
L. O.
The main restaurant space is a big airy loft space with lovely timber beams. As well as having a pizza special they also had a draft special (Bristol Beer Factory) which was pleasing. The pizza menu was interesting and punchy. I had a sausage and broccoli pizza. Highlight of the meal was the STRONG chilli oil. As it should be. A smasher of a meal.
J. T.
WOW! What a great pizza! With home made sausage on it as well.......this really is worth the time. Staff are super helpful.........and service is FAB!
If you like authentic pizza....then this is it😁👍
Thanks
D. F.
Possibly the best pizza I tried in the UK yet.
My only “complaint “ is that the tomato sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. I guess they put little sugar to compensate acidity?
I’m Italian and I’ll be back for sure.
J.
Unbelievable pizza; photos don’t do it justice. The hot honey was a real treat of an addition
m. L.
We are regulars here, coming for pizza on Fridays most weeks. The staff are lovely, and so welcoming. The pizzas are super tasty, with fresh ingredients and soft but crispy sourdough bases and crusts. The hot honey is amazing. Service is usually really quick as the pizzas cook in 5 mins. Takeaway is really convenient for this reason.
S. Z.
Really good location nearby the Harborside,
The pizza is very tasty, great job, high quality of ingredients I can say so,
Thanks
Sergio
L. P.
Came here on a Friday night after walking around the harbourside. We were seated upstairs along a bar rail; not the most ambient setting opposed to the regular tables.. but a minor point. Ordered some garlic bread to share which was tasty and full of flavour. We ordered our pizzas - one margherita and one special with the meat swapped for aubergine. Unfortunately both pizzas were flaccid with the margherita covered in what could only be described as Heinz baked beans coloured sauce. Trying to cut the pizzas was a challenge and effectively had to tear it with my hands at one point (giving us a pizza cutter wheel would have helped!). Hope this was a one off as these were, unfortunately, not pizzas that would encourage us to return - a real shame as it was recommended by a friend.
I. M.
The pizza was amazing and had such a unique flavor. The crust was nice and thick around the edge and thin in the middle. I personally really enjoyed the Sausagefest pizza. Would definitely visit again.
G. S.
Tasty pizza for a good price, a beautiful old building with lovely outside seating too. A great place for dinner before heading on the the night glow at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta.
S. B.
Just tried out Bertha's for the first time and decided that this place is from now on one of my pizza haunts. And I only haunt places with world class pizza. They are no Italians, but they care deeply about the pizza they make and it shows. The pizza crust is out of this world, and when the pizza is fresh out the oven, every bite has two layers of crispness - one is the main crunch of well baked thin crust, but here it has an ever-so-delicate preceding layer of very thin crispness which is such a delight!
Oh and they also bake sourdough bread in their oven and sell it here. Two shots to the heart, in my case.
Definite keeper on my list.
S. T.
Excellent pizza and enjoyed the homemade gelato and an Orange and beetroot Gin with Fennel syrup..the service was excellent too
P. D.
The homemade gelato was totally worth the £6 for 2 scoops. DELICIOUS!
J. T.
One of the best places for pizza and ice cream in Bristol! Such a cute atmosphere and the honey chilli pepperoni pizza is like nothing I’ve had before. The service used to be a bit slow when they first opened but it seems that they have changed it up now because we went on a Saturday night and it was really good! Definitely try it out for pizza and stay for the ice cream which is equally amazing
V. P.
Definitely the best pizza I've had in a long time. It was absolutely yummy. Staff were very friendly.
S. B.
Pizzas that smell like I've never smelled pizza before - and they taste just as good. We had the Sausagefest (proper lovely fennel sausages that you could serve on their own) and the Zucca (lovely squash puree).
You can tell from the drinks list (and the Wiper & True on most tables) that they know a good drink as well as a good pizza.
S.
Excellent food! Super friendly service! Was a bit of a wait for food, but then it was packed full of people, so you can't blame them for that at all.
Would definitely recommend to anyone and we will be returning in the future for sure! 😊
L. F.
While sourdough is in no way authentic, for me it's a variation that works. It's otherwise a very authentic pizza. Sauce is nice and fresh tasting with good acidity, not over concentrated like you often find and no origano- yay! It's not drowning in cheese and comes with fresh basil leaves. I can tell they learned their craft in Italy!
T. S.
Little restaurant tucked away at the back of Wapping wharf. The sourdough bases for the pizza taste great and they've got a diverse menu of pizza (just pizza, no other Italian dishes) as well as a daily special. The only thing to watch out for is the pizzas just have the toppings stated, so a good number don't have either tomato &/or mozzarella. Friendly and efficient service, try the umami bomb!
T. T.
Great place. Pizza was brilliant, probably the best dough I've ever had - light and airy but with a lovely, tangy chew. The rhubarb gelato (sorbet) they had was amazing too. All topped off with great, friendly staff. Now I'm sad I don't live in Bristol 😔
A. G.
Went to Bertha’s with a group of friends for lunch. We sat upstairs, nice decor, relaxed atmosphere but more importantly very good pizza. I had a simple margherita and enjoyed it really much. Soft and light dough, tomato sauce and mozzarella tasted like in Italy. Just a couple of minor things:most of our pizzas had the crusts a bit too burned and shame they don’t do coffee/hot drinks.
Other than that, all good, will be happy to come back
D. B.
Super friendly service, fabulous sourdough pizzas and lovely atmosphere. Would definitely come back here.
J. R.
Not what it used to be.
Would always recommend Bertha's to people and was in my top pizza places In Bristol.
Just went for the first time in a while and it was disappointing. Pizza's were lacking in flavour overall and way too much sauce, leaving them very soggy.
Went with a friend who had never been and I felt embarrassed for how much praise I gave the place beforehand. Won't be going again any time soon.
D. P.
Great pizza in a lovely spot. No dogs allowed so we sat outside this time but still beautiful.
N. K.
So good! Awesome pizza, great atmosphere. Good prices.
R. A.
Great pizza. Really light base with interesting, flavorful toppings. The service was friendly and prompt and they gave us a freebie - always a winner. Will definitely come back again.
A. G.
Good pizza but felt really expensive. Nice location but £6.50 a pint is far too expensive.
S. L.
Really good sourdough pizza - super light and fluffy crust (perfect for dipping!) and a good mix of specials and classics to order from.
D. P.
Absolutely gorgeous food and cocktails. Lovely staff. Great atmosphere. Definitely best to book ahead
G. D.
Great pizza and family friendly. Some of my tableware was dirty which took the shine off the experience.
T. W.
Delicious pizza and such friendly staff. Dog friendly downstairs as well.
P. B.
Great pizza place! The "Umami Bomb" pizza was unusual but absolutely delicious :)
A. A.
Delicious pizza. Great drinks. Friendly staff and service. Loved it.
P. N.
Was recommended this place for dinner and was not disappointed. Amazing pizza and flavor. Well priced and awesome staff.
M. B.
Very nice place and really good pizza! I don’t think there’s anything else I need to add 🙃
H. G.
Amazing place! We loved the pizza here so much.
J. P. C.
Good quality ingredients and quick service. However, the pizza is clearly burnt..
A. P.
Just had the most fun food competition with the best groupmate. I mean they have desserts pizza (on special occassion of course) but istn't it what you want a level up from regular pizza?!
R. N.
Best pizza in Bristol. Garlic bread is the best i've ever tasted. Service very friendly and efficient.
L. S.
Great sour dough pizzas served. Very generous toppings on the pizzas too, the Meat & Heat is great
E. R.
Pizza was ok, the guest Hefeweizen beer they had was amazing. One of the workers ran down the street to give me my rain coat I had left which was awesome!
J. W.
Nice little place, definatley great pizzas and the Garlic mozzarella bread is the best I have had for a long time, limited drink selection, but that's been over critical but why I haven't 5 starred the venue
s.
Love Berthas, the Meat and Heat pizza is so good, up there with the best pizza i have eaten outside of Naples. Aioli dip is a must to enjoy with it. Malteser Ice Cream to end it was sublime. 100% recommend!
C. S.
Great pizzas with interesting flavours!
H. M.
Lovely friendly place. Chilled atmosphere. The pizza's are really good, not your usual options which makes it interesting. The pizza base is awesome!!
Has highchairs and baby change, which is fab.
Waitresses could know more about the food and drink options. Its a really small menu, I would expect them to have tried everything and help with choices a bit better.
Salad could be a bit more than leaves. Although leaf selection is excellent, there isn't a lot of actual vegetables on the pizzas.
S. T.
My 15 year old daughter says Bertha's Meat and Heat pizza is the best she's ever had...so we get them often. But I don't agree with her, especially as a takeaway. The sourdough base has a great flavour but a disappointing texture. It's invariably soft and stodgy, as is their Margherita. But the flavour of both pizzas is excellent, they are beautifully fresh and the pepperoni is excellent. The menu is narrow and they could do with adding a good salad to go with the pizza. As a restaurant to eat in it's spartan and not so comfortable. More a take-away than somewhere to eat in though the pizzas are better if eaten straight from the oven rather than boxed & eaten later at home. Prices are high I feel, compared to other take-away options, but maybe in line with other inferior pizzas such as Domino's.
M. M.
Excellent pizza, great prices and lovely staff!
J. V.
The pizzas from here are actually really nice. Normally I don't like pizzas in this style too much as they are either too doughey or burnt on the bottom, but the pizza from here was just right. Staff were friendly and everything was very straight forward. Although we got lucky to get a table as it was quite busy when we arrived. Ice cream could be better - seemed quite expensive for how much you got.
J. M.
Best pizza I've had in a long time 👌
B. A.
Food: meat and heat pizza, umami bomb pizza, olives
Drinks: kaleidoscope beer, rhubarb cider
Day: Sunday (Bank holiday) lunchtime
Despite it being a roaring bank holiday weekend and not having a booking, we were seated in the space of two minutes. Attentive, friendly staff.
The food was excellent - perfectly cooked pizza with the right level of char. The tomato sauce on the meat and heat was delicious, perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the honey and the mild heat of the chilli. The umami was equally as excellent and certainly lived up to its name.
5 stars!
o.
I visited this place 3 years it's the best
T. S.
Always enjoy the pizzas from this place, the flavours are well thought out and the execution is equally good. The hot honey is an excellent touch.
The food is tasty and interesting, the staff are lovely and service is prompt. Try the truffle shuffle and I'm sure you'll be back for more!
H. W.
Great tasting pizza near the quay in Bristol at Wapping Wharf. All ingredients are high quality and locally sourced which is great to see. Good variety of meat and veg pizzas - not a huge selection but means focus on flavours and attention to detail over exhaustive list and drop in quality. Good selection of wines and craft beers and friendly staff.
A. G.
Myself and my partner ate at Bertha's pizza this evening. As soon as we walked in the door the customer service was amazing- friendly, not pushy at all but very attentive. The food was exactly how the 'about us' describes- delicious, simple food done extremely well. Probably the best Margherita pizza we've ever had! Helen L was the perfect attendant, will have to come back to try more of the menu! Cocktail was also refreshing and reasonably priced. Great vibe. Totally recommend.
L. D. F.
Ordered from deliveroo. There is a lot of potential because, the dough is clearly very good and nice and blackened from the ovan. But both pizzas were so undercooked it was barely digestible. I think It was because they weren't rolled out enough and the crusts were way too thick. Also there was twice as much mozzarella as their should be and they used cheap stuff too sadly.
S. N.
The pizza was absolutely delicious. Really loved the unusual choices as well as the more traditional ones. The service was also great, I'd definitely come here again when I'm back in Bristol
L. R.
Quality pizza at good prices, served by lovely and welcoming staff! Wonderful location if you like some fun little shops and a view of the harbour as well
J. S.
Visited here for a quick bite as it was recommended by a family member.
I can honestly say it is without a doubt the best pizza I've had in years.
The dough was light, perfectly crispy outside with a delightful chew to the inside synonymous with true sourdough.
Toppings were amazingly fresh and generous, a relatively limited menu but nothing was missing. You can tell a lot of thought/love has gone into each choice.
The place is a family run business, demonstrated very aptly by their adorable young daughter taking our order (with a little help from a grown up waitress...); coupled with the charming decor made for an incredibly warm and welcoming experience.
Edit - PS. Try the sorbet!
I. R.
Such good pizza!!! The base is incredible, tasty and really chewy, the service was really good and good prices. Sad we didn't get any of the ice-cream, it looked great!
E. W.
Really great place to go for a pizza. Nice and friendly staff and set in a really nice and contemporary venue. The pizzas were absolutely amazing. The sourdough bases are next level, so light yet leave you feeling comfortably full. Can’t wait to go back
J. T.
Absolutely ace pizza. So so good. It took me a while to get across to Bertha's but I'm so glad I did. The Sausagefest was extraordinary. Hands down one of the best pizzas I've ever had anywhere in the world including the States and Italy. If there's one pizza place you visit in Bristol, make it this one.
M. J.
You are not going to get much that is special here in the way of a drinks menu. The decor is very neat but basic and the dessert choice is paltry. The service is excellent (including supports for young kids - high chairs etc...). All of the focus, ALL of it is on the pizza - which is very, very good. No American style deep pan pizza pie stuff, this is traditional Italian style pizza done extremely well.
A 'must try this' stop for anyone visiting Bristol and touring the local food places.
C. R.
Best pizza in Bristol, hands down. Yes it gets busy, because it's popular - I don't understand people's complaints that they couldn't get a seat because of it. Go earlier or just wait, that's fairly standard in any popular restaurant.
Great local drinks selection on the beers list, decent service. All round goodness.
B. G.
Such good pizza, my mate who'd not been before was so impressed with the setting, friendly staff and great food. Loved the local leaf salad and homemade kombucha too.
C. M. W.
Our absolute favourite pizza place in the whole city. Now doing deliveroo. It's amazing!
B. M.
Our first time here. The Pizzas are sourdough base and made in a pizza oven that is visible in the seating area on the ground floor.
We both had a "Woods" Pizza, which was the vegan option and it was delicious. It consisted of a very thin base and no cheese. The ingredients included caramalized onion, almonds and black garlic.
We also ordered a garlic dip to go with the pizza crust and we both enjoyed this too. Good range of drinks and very reasonably priced. Will call in again.
G. D.
Had a lovely time here Saturday evening. Starter, pizza and dessert (the galeto is lush) was all delicious. The dough was beautiful and I'd highly recommend the garlic dip they sell to dunk your crust in (can't remember its full name). Couldn't fault the service and the overall appearance/ambiance of the restaurant was really cute. The fairy lights were a nice touch - ideal for a cute date night. Price wise, we had three courses and an alcoholic drink each and it only came to about £35. Got to be in my top 5 for best pizzas in Bristol.
N. V.
Certainly not the best pizza I've eaten in Bristol, but a darn side better than most! My typical experience of this place is usually a struggle to get decent seating it's normally very busy and although i've found the staff to be helpful and attentively I really wasn't blown away by the quality of the pizza here.
Whilst there is a good selection of flavours, I found the quality a little bit basic and whilst they do have a very fancy artisan oven to cook the dough, the toppings aren't prepared any better than your local Dominos. So yes, you get your food quickly, which is great if you're hungry, but it's not the gourmet experience that leaves you thinking of Bertha's every time you fancy a pizza.
J. H.
Amazing. Seems like it’s at the quieter end of Gaol Ferry Steps and that may be why I hadn’t been there until last night. Lovely atmosphere, lovely building, lovely staff. The pizza was so so good. The dough is clearly their pride and joy but the topping was awesome too. As if that wasn’t enough I dabbled with the gelato and liqueurs and that was just as amazing. Do try the coffee liqueur. Loved the one huge ice cube.
R. F.
I don't normally like pizza because it can sit like a brick on my stomach. Not so with Bertha's. The sourdough is light and tasty. The toppings flavoursome, varied and sometimes unusual. Good choice of reasonably priced wines and local beers. Great homemade gelato. Friendly/attentive staff and a great setting. What's not to like?
M. B.
Best pizza in town! Amazing flavours - perfect dough and ridiculously delicious toppings. Great commitment to organic, high quality ingredients. Relaxed atmosphere and easy going staff, with just enough attention to detail.
I. W. S.
We simply had the best two pizzas for a long while , probably since our last trip to Napoli . Bertha’s serves very authentic pizzas made with real love and attention to detail in sourcing locally or with real provenance on organic and artisan ingredients. The sour dough base is perfect and slow fermented for a really light and crisp base . Before deciding to go here we read some oddball and anomalous reviews on this place in amongst many praising them on this website; possibly sour local rivals ? However , I’m glad we ignored those reviews and went anyway. I’d agree with the vast majority going to Bertha’s and recommend this place to anyone wanting an authentic taste of Italy and fresh local ingredients , we will definitely be back very soon.
B. C.
Great pizza bases and vegan options were yum
S. D.
Pizza seems to be on trend in Bristol, but this is one if the best. Authentic Napoli pizza oven combined with sourdough bases and interesting toppings. The friendly, helpful staff were great with our kids - letting them know when their pizzas were being made so they could watch. Recommend.
A. H.
The best pizza we've had ever. Amazing staff, great ciders, great gelato. Our dog was allowed too, which basically makes it our favourite place in Bristol worth travelling to even from another part of the country. Go hungry and enjoy!
H. O.
Best pizza! Always really tasty and really fresh!
S. N.
The toppings on the pizzas were good, but the dough was confusingly bland. Not disgusting or inedible (it didn't taste like raw flour), just a blank space of no flavor. It looked alright and had really good leopard spotting, so my only guess is that there's not enough salt in the mix. If the dough had had good sourdough flavor, would have been a pretty good pie.
m. p.
The best pizza ever (and I’ve had a lot of Pizzas!) interesting, unique and tasty. Great venue and atmosphere with decent wines. Very good value and very competent service. Perhaps lacking that Bristol, slight wanky vibe in the service but maybe that’s a good thing.
J. G.
We went on a Tuesday evening and overall, it was okay. The experience reminded me why I don't tend to go to trendy places around the docks - they're a little arrogant and up their own backsides.
Things started with a warm welcome but we only got a pint of beer when we asked for a pitcher. The non-alcohol options are there (dry January) but they're hardly plentiful. A glass of glass of elderflower presse was a rather expensive £3.
On to the menu - it's short and largely vegetarian/vegan. This wouldn't be bad if it weren't for the absence of tomatoes in several of the pizzas. I asked whether I could have a simple vegetarian pizza of my own choosing but apparently the chefs don't take kindly to customers making their own topping decisions (?!). Hence I went for the decadent truffle and mushroom pizza. My father went for the neapolitan. For starters we opted for the aubergine and the olives.
The olives were fresh but sadly quite bland and could have done with some seasoning or dressing. Note the tables don't have any salt or pepper. The aubergine was superb.
Unfortunately, my tomato fears were confirmed and my pizza had no tomato base. It was more of a creamy (and insanely rich) mushroom pizza. The base was superb but the topping wasn't to my taste. My father's pizza looked great but despite tomatoes, olives and mozzarella, all he could taste were the anchovies. The knives were also very blunt, leading to plenty of eating frustration.
The aubergine was the undoubted star of the show in an evening of questionable service and disappointing pizza. Perhaps if the place didn't feel quite so up its own backside (as many places do south of the river) they would be more welcoming to a customer simply asking for a pizza of their own creation? Or perhaps at least some more inviting options on the menu? What makes this particularly frustrating is that the base of the pizza was superb.
All the above cost £50 and the waiter never bothered to ask us whether we were enjoying our meals. Would I bother going back? No.
M. W.
Very interesting array of pizzas and drinks, in a cool location. Energetic staff give fast service. The hot honey crust dip is a treat!
L. J.
Bertha's Pizza is one of my absolute favourite places to eat in Bristol. The sourdough pizza is delicious and the garlic bread is genuinely next level. Great value too!
F.
Decent enough ‘gourmet’ style pizzas. Sourdough pizza bases and garlic bread were better than the toppings. The selection is not large though and starters were also lacking in variety. Staff attentive and friendly.
R. K.
Upon my first visit I tried their vegan sausage pizza and it was fantastic. I went for the roll-and-fold approach for eating the slices as this way I could also dip it into the hot (spicey) honey dip for the ultimate tastebud exploding experience. And it was worth it. The service was great and the atmosphere was typical for the whole whapping wharf collective, free-spirited but in a good way. I'll be back for more.
D. B. P.
It's sour dough pizza is different and tasty. Reasonable size pizza well priced. Good selection of botteled beers.
A small place and no options for booking tables for smaller parties. It's a try your luck type thing which may not work out every time.
Decor is rustic and functional. Converted warehouse type setting.
A. L.
Always enjoy a meal here in a really cool restaurant. The staff are great, and the food delicious. If you're good with a bit of a kick, the chilli honey dipping sauce is a must! For the quality and flavour of the meal, I think pricing is more than reasonable. It's very easy to share one starter and one main between two and feel full.
T. B.
Vies with Flour and Ash and Pi Shop for best pizza in Bristol in my opinion. Perfect sourdough bases and along with their traditional toppings their experiments with other toppings are a great success in my experience.
To top it off the service is excellent. Friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
A.
Great pizzas, great atmosphere, awesome friendly staff
Woods and umami bomb pizzas are great
Can't wait to go back 😊
E. K. S.
Really nice place, staff are very kind and friendly. But in terms of pizzas, they were all good and delicious, but didn't live up to my expectation. Pizzarova is much much better for this prices.
J. P.
Ok pizza but nothing like the hype it gets. The menu didn't give many enticing options but there were a couple we settled on. The style of cooking meant the dough was ever so slightly burnt in places adding a bitter taste to the pizza. In the end it's OK but could be better.
J. S.
Friendly staff and great starters. None of us were big fans of the pizza itself though. My wife's mushroom pizza was quite dry, and we found the dough to be quite chewy. Current preference Franco Manca and Bosco.
L. G.
Amazing pizza (get the hot honey!) Friendly staff and the gelato was delicious!
A.
Great tasting pizza. However last two times I've been the base has been a little soggy in the middle resulting in a bit too much flop when picked up. Possibly the base sauce is a little too runny and soaks through. The base itself is really tasty and has great "leoparding" i.e nicely chard marks round the edge. I actually really enjoy Bertha's pizzas but wonder if their bases could be crisped up in the centre a little more
d. b.
Best pizza you will ever eat in your life. I would eat here again on my next bristol trip.
A. G.
Such good pizza! Beautifully cooked, a good amount of toppings and interesting choices. Service was pretty quick for a Saturday evening and all in all not too expensive either. Definitely worth a visit!
M. E.
Good pizza & excellent service 👍 I enjoyed my Napoli pizza. Decor in the toilet was a nice touch.

We had a great meal here and will definitely be back. The sourdough pizza is really delicious, as was the gelato, and you don't have to wait long for it (I later learned the pizza is cooked for a short time at a very high temperature). The place has a lovely atmosphere - laid back, lively without feeling crowded or noisy, and very welcoming.
While not obviously aimed at families, this is definitely a family/baby-friendly place - there's space by the door to park a pushchair, baby changing in the big loo (with plenty of space for it too - no need to balance your nappy bag on the bin here), and staff will bring you a high chair.
What really made our meal special was the great service we received. Visiting with our 10-month-old baby on a Friday night, the staff were very understanding of our needs. They suggested bread for the baby to eat and brought it quickly, took my pizza away to keep warm by the oven when I had to change the baby just as our food was arriving, and brought it back as soon as they noticed me returning to the table. The staff also went out of their way to engage with our baby as they passed, which he really loved. As any parent of a baby will tell you, happy baby = happy parents! Especially with food as good as this, we all left with smiles on our faces.
A. E.
Friendly and very welcoming staff, by far the best Pizza we've had in a long time, freshly made and a generous size, would definitely recommend getting both dips to try with your pizza/garlic bread (Allioli & Hot honey). Will be going again, thank you!.
R. P.
The pizza I had was tasty but was I left feeling unsatisfied despite being full at the end of the meal. The toppings had a satisfactory density but I felt my umami pizza was lacking something. The homemade ice cream was very nice though the texture of the Peanut Butter was a little on the greasy side.
Ultimately the pizza was too expensive for what I got.
A. U.
Pizza as it should be!
Master pieces are served here, so if you ever wondered what I am talking about - you missed a lot of skillfully, lovingly and tasty pizza in your life!
There's always something special on the meniu and if we speak up loud enough those specials and up on the permanent meniu too! It's takes a while, a hit of convincing l, but favourites win; for a good reason!
Location is perfect- yes, depending on where you live, but maybe it's meant to be from everyone's eye, somewhat like a hidden gem.
Staff is wonderful here and chefs craft every pizza just to a perfection!
Ideal for solo dates, groups or families: everyone will find there space here. There's an upstairs/ loft/ mezzanine level to the restaurant too, so yes, plenty of seating available.
It's hard to describe your favourite thing, you just gonna have to go and experience it for yourself!
p.s. on Saturday's they sell sourdough bread too!
H. T.
Works Christmas do! Brilliant service and food.
S. C.
Friendly service, and we had a nice lunch however we did think the menu was a bit limited. Given they are a pizzeria, it wouldn't be too hard to have a wider variety of toppings. That said what we had was lovely, and they're licenced which was nice, although £6 a pint of daft ale is way too expensive!
S.
Really great pizza for three of us. Great protection protocol in place as well. Only thing I would say is that all the tables are upstairs, with no visible East of getting up there of you are unable to climb them.
J. F.
There’s a lot of great pizza places in Bristol now but this one tops the lot for me. The sourdough base is nice and blistered in the Neapolitan style with quality toppings. Friendly staff and first rate negronis... love it!
H. B.
Had a lovely pizza here. Great sourdough base, good toppings, lovely atmosphere, great staff and good price. I would have taken a picture but it looked too good and I had to start eating!
R. S.
They say this is the best pizza in Bristol. It was definitely top tier, with some novel flavour combinations and good drinks to accompany it. Dealt well with a table of 9 too so credit to them.
D. C.
The pizzas were disappointing after reading all the blurb about how they are made. Mine had too much tomato sauce and was soggy in the middle when the base should be crisp. And the crust round the outside has burned black areas - highly carcinogenic. The best bit was the dips you can get for dipping the crust into.
W. M.
I would give 5 stars but my kids overruled me, it was a bit chilly by the door (I didn't mind) and they didn't have chips (oh my god). Really great service, very attentive staff, AMAZING cocktails. Oh and the Pizza was Lush. Kale with peppers.. Yum.. Definite thumbs UP
A. C.
Dough not fully cooked and a bit sloppy. That said, it tasted good and a nice atmosphere, staff were attentive.
A. C.
Great pizza made from local ingredients. Nice upstairs area with plenty of space. Dropped a star as there was only a few beers available, especially with the amount of local breweries around
E. A. P.
Nice pizza. The liquor with ice-cream scoop is delectable.
Booking are not accepted for groups fewer that eight people, but the waiting time in our case wasn't longer than 20 mins and we got served drinks at a table near the entrance.
The ambience was ikea stile and it was cosy without being too tight.
The staff very friendly and helpful.
J. G.
Excellent sourdough pizza ! So good they sold out shortly after we arrived. If you want authentic pizza this is definitely worth a visit!
j. r.
Service is wonderful and the pizza is delicious.
I’m especially in love with the sauce on their pizza - it’s so good.
They have a lovely patio too!
P. B.
True italian dough and good quality ingredients, but weird combination on the pizzas. And the rustico from the starters is just not a rustico.
I must have confused them ordering a pizza my own stile, but it was hell good.
R. F.
Really nice pizza, but a little small for me. Lovely restaurant in a great location. Only 4 stars as it's a poor man's flour and ash in my opinion. Definitely worth a visit though.
P. D.
Excellent tasty pizza. Well cooked, base not heavy or excessive. Topping on th Meat and Heat had plenty of pepperoni and the honey gave it an interesting twist
C.
Amazing pizza but the wait for takeaway is sooo slow. It took 30 mins of waiting outside for our order to be taken then another 45-50 mins for the pizza to be made!
M. B.
The promise of a light and airy sourdough neapolitan pizza is always a winner for me. Bertha's delivers on that promise.
I'll definitely be back for more pizza in future.
Top tip: try the hot honey dipping sauce. Spicy honey!
K. L.
Absolutely smashin' pizza (sausagefest). Fast to order and cook, plus we got a free dip when they thought they had run out, lovely staff! Thank you will be back soon!
T. S.
Good hipster pizza place i stumbled upon in Bristol. Enjoyed the butternut squash pizza where squash puree is used instead of tomato sauce. Only complaint was the limited desert menu with some of the options being unavailable.
H. T.
Lovely atmosphere in a great location in Bristol. We stopped by for pizza whilst visiting friends who spoke very highly of Bertha's and they didn't disappoint! Sourdough pizza is the way forward!
H. V.
The pizza dough is delicious but the prosecco was really astringent and yeasty. The starters were mediocre, very small portions of meat but lovely bread.
M. P.
The best pizza and some innovative ones too. Lovely ice cream as well. I'm not that keen on their wine offerings though, and that's why I didn't award six stars.
N. P.
Amazing pizza, imaginative flavours and gelato to die for! Sit at the chef's table for the best experience, watching easy pizza being prepared before it goes into the wood fired oven.
N. H.
Excellent sour dough pizza, great selection of topping, friendly and helpful staff.
E. G.
On the strong recommendation of a friend I visited Berthas...twice in one weekend. This is a wonderfully genuine and unpretentious little place. The food on offer was original and first rate with the accompanying drinks list a league on its own. As mentioned, I went twice in 48 hours, the second time, accompanied by a fussy Italian who deeply approved.
D. G.
Stumbled a cross this place yesterday, excellent freshly made pizza with perfect base. Had the special which has some kind of spicy meat, and secret recipe "krispies" anyway is was delicious 9 👌
I. F.
Good dough, well cooked, but with a good tomato sauce would be much better.
j. m.
Beautiful pizza. Crisp burnt bubbles and a really delicious tomato sauce. Excellent all round.
e. r.
Pizza and wine delicious Def top 3 in Bristol , maybe just a little undercooked on the edges but that can happen on a busy night , mushroom ketchup dip was amazing ! It gets a little loud upstairs and maybe some artwork could soak up some noise ! Really enjoyed my 2 pizzas !
W.
Delicious pizza, selected from a simple but great menu. Love the kitchen and dining area layout.
Pizza comes out super fast, and has that chewy, bready dough. Yummy.
V. C.
Best sourdough pizza in Bristol, friendly staff, lovely space and of course the famous Bertha oven. An absolute must if you want a really good pizza.
L. M. D. N.
By far the best pizza in Bristol! These guys are amazing in doing pizza and yet very humble in asking feedback to all of their customers. Keep up the great work!
J. C.
Great food with a good mix of classic pizza options (sometimes with an added twist such as hot honey) and more unique choices. Wide drinks menu and good selection of starters/sides.
A. C.
One of Bristol's best pizza places. The umami bomb (with added mushrooms) was delicious
J. P.
The service was great, everyone from the staff that I spoke to was friendly! I got a simple margarita and loved it
A. A.
A Club Soda (mindful/alcohol free drinking) club social. Great service, melt in the mouth pizzas and a good range of AF drinks. Everyone enjoyed it. Thanks to all the team!
A. R.
Friendly family pizza restaurant in Wapping Wharf. Buzzy atmosphere, great pizzas, good selection of drinks, very friendly and helpful staff. One of Bristol’s top pizza restaurants (and that’s really saying something).
J. C.
The place is charming, the waiter was utterly lovely and the pizza was worth having again!
M. P.
Been here twice and enjoyed it both times. Booking is recommended. Pizza is quite large and could easily fill two people. Skip the starters. Service is very good.
S. P.
Bertha's always has a nice atmosphere to it, even when full it never feels overly crowded. The food is traditional and of a very good standard and the staff hard working and polite. An all round enjoyable experience.
E. S.
The sourdough pizza is amazing, the mozzarella is the real thing.
The service and atmosphere are friendly and welcoming. Can't recommend enough
N. L.
Generally don't care about sour dough but this place made good pizza with it. Fun decor, good chefs and service. Will be coming back.
A. B.
Lovely place, athmosphere and service. Menu could be more interesting. Vegan pizza would be great if it had some melted cheese alternative on top
j. m.
Awesome pizza nice and relaxed restaurant and great staff
A. H.
Best pizza in Bristol. Inspiring toppings, delicious dips for the crusts and great cocktails. Pizza for people that love flavour.
E. B.
Fantastic fantastic pizza. Great basic pizzas and yummy vegan pizzas too almonds on pizza is a revelation! Also nanny state for non-alcoholic beer drinkers.
S. B.
Great gluten free pizza base, and vegan options. I also love the chilli honey
S. G.
Amazing sourdough pizza! Interesting gelato flavours. Friendly helpful staff. Toilets have seats for little ones.
R. J.
Beautiful tasty sourdough pizzas. I ordered for delivery and it was really quick, fresh and hot!
C. P.
Top pizza (possibly the best I've had in Bristol), great toppings combos, really cute little restaurant that's much bigger than it looks!
J. S.
Not very good, but the squash base on the Zucco was interesting. Price a bit high for what it is, I think. Almonds not worth their salt...pun intended. Overall wouldn't recommend.
E. B.
Amazing pizzas. Highly recommended.
Try the hot honey for dipping the crusts in.
D. P.
I would highly recommend a visit to Bertha's.this was our first visit after we had been on a food tour a couple of months before and Bertha's was one of the restaurants we visited to taste a variety of pizzas, we were so impressed by the experience we had to visit again and we weren't disappointed, we will definitely be back soon.
K. D.
The best pizza I've ever had and amazing service from the staff, will definitely return
P. J.
Great atmosphere wonderful surroundings and more importantly just brilliant traditional pizza with a twist. Staff are excellent as is the service!!
l. g.
Delicious pizza. I had the vegan pizza (tomato, basil, oregano) the base and sauce we're so tasty I didn't miss the cheese at all.
n. h.
Can't fault the food in this place. I had the margarita pizza, hubby tried the peach and goats cheese one. Lovely, chilled atmosphere too. We're going back next week!
B. B.
One of the best pizzas in Bristol. Totally recommend the home made ice-cream, so delicious!
A. I.
It’s not hard to find a good pizza place but this really stood out for me with seemingly wacky toppings executed to perfection. Genuinely loved it
D. L.
Really nice food, probably the best pizza I've had in Bristol.
L. H.
Lovely place with three tasty vegan pizza options! Really nice atmosphere and friendly waiters. Would highly recommend
J. T.
Best pizza I had in a long time! There isn't a large selection of pizza's available, but they are good.
e.
Gorgeous pizza's, lovely to know their back story and where they get their food from, would definitely recommend!
D. A.
Simple, tasty pizzas but with an interesting twist on the toppings. Surprisingly filling. Gelato also good. Friendly staff.
T. N.
Exceptionally good pizza, the sourdough base works really well to complement the toppings. Even picked up a sourdough loaf with my takeaway pizzas.
E. B.
Food was great but the pizzas on the menu were a bit weird and difficult to decipher. The create your own was easy enough though.
s. a.
Favourite pizza place in Bristol. Great atmosphere. Try getting a pizza to takeaway and eating whilst sitting on the harbour side.
L.
Very tasty pizza great staff and tasty cocktails, definitely recommend an Allan Titchmarsh. Looking forward to our next visit.
L. v.

Best pizza I've had in Bristol. Staff are friendly, restaurant itself is light and and nice place to be.
T. G.
Without a doubt, the best pizza in Bristol. Really friendly team, and Graham & Kate, who own the place, are just the best.
N. L.
Gelato was genuinely delicious, only let down was the cost per serving proposition. I got what can only be described as two child's scoops for £4.
J. N.
Delicious pizzas, particularly Meat & Heat with their own Hot Honey. The place to go if you're missing Pie Shop already.
G. C.
Amazing sourdough pizza and great service.
G. D.
Popped in for a take away, friendly service, got to watch the pizzas being prepared and very quick! In and out in under 10 minutes and delicious pizza.
J. L.
The pizzas aren't massive but enough to to make me full. Truffle shuffle was really good, provided you like truffle of course...
A. P.
Really amazing, one of the best pizzas in Bristol and really friendly staff! If you haven't been yet, it's a must!
D. A.

D. C.
Great sourdough pizza, soft and tasty. Very good ingredients and friendly staff!
G.
Enjoyed the vegan pizza but I do love a cheeky dipping sauce but no vegan options available..
K. M.
Got the pepperoni pizza with aioli dip. Fantastic, one of the best I had.
U. S.
Pizza is okay, the dough is way to thin though. Overall the place is fine, but way too overhyped.
M. C.
Nice venue, delightful staff and the sourdough was excellent. Hot honey on a pepperoni pizza is a great idea.
M. R.
Nice and cosy. But the pizza is not great. Was mostly burnt. Hence the 3 stars.
