This restaurant!!! My husband and I were so excited we picked Giardini Di Sorrento for a late lunch yesterday during a few short hours in the city. We walked in 5 minutes before the kitchen closed for the afternoon but were warmly welcomed anyway and weren’t made to feel like an inconvenience for our poor timing. We ordered Antipasto and desserts and wish we lived closer to try some of their pasta dishes. The food was incredible. So fresh and generous! This is a new favourite and anytime we visit Cardiff we will be sure to return!

The food here is truly delicious and is a little taste of Italy in Cardiff. While the prices aren't the cheapest, you can see why with the quality of the food. The a al carte menu is limited, but my two main dishes came off the daily specials and I'd certainly recommend trying something off the specials board. While the food was incredible, the same can't be said for the service. They were rather slow taking our order, advice on what to order wasn't great, after ordering a 'primo' and 'secondo' explicitly it was disappointing to see genuine Italians bring both out at the same time. Also our party of 5 spent a considerable amount here, but the famous southern Italian hospitality was lacking and we weren't offered a limoncello at the end

Delightful little Italian. Picked it for a works evening meal whilst traveling from the trip advisor reviews and wasn't disappointed. Friendly welcome and good service. I had calamari for starters and it was amazing, lightly battered and perfectly cooked. Followed by wild boar ravioli for mains which again was great.

Food is wonderful and house wines are delish. The portions are HUGE, which is fair enough given the slightly pricy prices. Service is great though, and as we paid the card machine was playing up so our waiter brought over a very sweet little music box and some limoncello to try. Lovely for a date or for a meal with family.

Gorgeous food and ample serving sizes. You won't leave hungry! Excellent COVID system with plastic partition walls between tables and diligent cleaning and sanitisation by the waiters. Fresh seafood and pasta really stood out, and couldn't get enough of the freshly baked pizza dough. The experience was topped off with a very welcome ans authentic Italian service. Can't wait to visit again.

What a place. The pure authenticity of this small restaurant is fantastic. My Italian boyfriend said it was the best Italian restaurant he has been to out of Italy, especially because of the service, bread and olives and lemoncello. The food was fantastic and the range of specials was so amazing it was hard to choose one dish. We didn’t catch our servers name but he had glasses and was very warming towards us. We both couldn’t recommend this restaurant more. 10/10, will definitely be returning!!!

Picked out from the existing ratings for a one night stay in Cardiff. This small yet charming restaurant very much deserves its reputation. As well as a varied a la carte, there were some interesting specials. A local couple next to us said it's their regular and recommended the beef arancini (fried balls of rice) as a shared starter. You get only two but they're big, filling and delicious. We each then had a sausage orrechiette (in a lovely tasty white sauce) and an asparagus risotto, which was well flavoured with silky texture. As a wine enthusiast it was great to find Lacryma di Christi del Vesuvio, an unusual acclaimed red from Naples, which I've never seen on a restaurant list before and was excellent. The staff were knowledgeable, welcoming and attentive. And I particularly liked that they didn't slap on a service charge, so we added one all the more generously because it was well deserved. Away from the shopping centre bustle, it's worth seeking out!

Overall I must say I enjoyed coming to this restaurant. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The food is good too. We had antipasto and a range of pasta dishes. I would not recommend the antipasto as we personally found the absence of cheeses (just very basic mini mozzarellas) and lower quality of bread disappointing. The bruschetta was great though - do get that. The pasta dishes were very tasty with generous portions. Clearly the star of the show was the tomato sauce which was rich and well seasoned. At times it was a little overwhelming but it complimented each of the dishes nicely. Get the Aperol spritz as well - it’s one of the better ones I’ve had in Cardiff.

My husband and I visited the restaurant last night for our 3rd Wedding anniversary. We actually got married in Sorrento and this restaurant is like a little piece of Sorrento in Cardiff. We had the most wonderful service. The specials where fantastic and my husband ordered from the main menu which was also amazing. The portions were large and the food was beautiful. We've had lunch here before also and this place never disappoints. It's great for all occasions and we highly recommend it to all! Thanks Massimo and team for giving us the perfect anniversary night.

Good food and service. Some exceptional dishes and some a bit disappointing. For starters we had the meat and the seafood sharing platters. Very good. Sardines were a hit. Also had the mussels from the GF menu. Brilliant. The sauce was faught over and saw lots of bread dipping action (once I finished). Chicken and pasta dishes were excellent and also the pizza. But the sword fish (fish of the day) was bland. Really needed a sauce. A lot of character. We will return.

Do you want real italian? Avoid town, forget Zizzi, Bellini's, Carluccio's and all the nonsense. COME HERE!! Max and his team are brilliant at what they do, they have passion to share and satisfy the customer - the restaurant is busy, and that says a lot 😊 not to mention the joy the bring if someone is celebrating a birthday - expect jolly music and tambourines played by the staff 😄 So many types of fresh pasta made in-house, homemade desserts, authentic ingredients 🤩 Proprio come a casa mia! What a gem of a place in Cardiff a true family run restaurant. The staff were so welcoming and helpful explaining parts of the menu noting the specials board and giving recommendations. I had an amazing starter sadly no picture sorry I tried it and ate it all before I realised I didn't have a pic.. The foccacia bread was home made fresh and very tasty I didn't order it but they gave some for the table especially for me to try with my sauce. Pizza for main was delicious.. Home made and good flavour... The dessert again yummy lemon profiteroles absolutely lush... Also complimentary lemonchello shots. Bill served in a really cute music box which was a nice touch. Highly recommend and for those who love an after meal coffee then again taste sensation

Wow!!! This place was very very delicious! The service was impeccable. I let the server chose my dish for me because I couldn't decide, and I was not disappointed. What's great is they explain what pastas they have for the day and show you an example of each cut before the meal. I highly recommend a stop!

The food, the presentation and the staff is awesome. Genuine Italian food-as good as I got in during my Italy visit. I ordered seasonal fish (sea bass was served) absolutely the way I wanted. Finished my course with Tiramisu which was good as well. Survival thanks to Ana who ensured a seat for me (single occupant) on a busy Saturday evening.

We went to this restaurant with another family of four. We had excellent time at this restaurant. The food is great and comes with large quantity. The staff is super friendly and was able to accommodate most of our requirements. Did I mention the food is great? We ordered quite a lot of vegetarian dishes and all of them were excellent. Their cheese cake is lighter than air. Unfortunately I could not try wine selection this time. Looking forward to visit the restaurant again and that time I will definitely their wines.

Found this place through trip advisor, totally worth it's rank 1 I say. If you want good food with a date or friend in a quiet and cozy place with great atmosphere while don't mind sparing some cash, it's a great place to be. Also it have an assortment of wines for you to choose to your liking.

One of if not the best restaurant I have visited in Cardiff and the best Italian food I've eaten since my Michelin star tour of Venice. The staff are lovely and to food quality is incredible. I had the lobster which was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend!

Nicely decorated and quite cosy. Meal was fine but menu is limited although there is a specials board. I thought the meal was rather expensive for what it was. Bottled beer was particularly overpriced at £6.50 (see picture of bill). The restaurant is obviously popular as it was busy despite it being a Thursday night. The restaurant is on the Newport Road end of City Road near the Wetherspoons pub. There is no dedicated parking and on street parking is limited, although there is usually space in side streets in the evening. Would probably visit again but definitely not my first choice for an Italian restaurant in Cardiff.

Booked a meal for 2 here Sat night, lovely atmosphere, felt like we were on holiday, a proper family run Italian. Food was nice (not the best I've had) service is very good, only knocked a star off as one of the chefs was shouting at someone at the top of his voice for ages and made us feel a bit uncomfortable. Welcoming, authentic, delicious Italian dining in central Cardiff We visited this restaurant on a Tuesday evening and it was full and now we know why! From the first interaction with the staff members to the final mouthful of tiramisu, this Italian is a cut above the rest. It manages to maintain a balance of outstanding hosting (enthusiastic, attentive but not invasive) and food clearly created with passion and love. We also thought it was excellent value for money. Make sure you check out the specials board (wild boar ravioli was described as the best pasta dish my fiancée has ever eaten and we’ve visited Italy on multiple occasions). As with all outstanding restaurants, attention to detail is paramount and they use the best quality ingredients combined with an expert knowledge of flavour combinations to create an experience where you’ll be dreaming of returning. We were fortunate to be sat next to a woman who had come to Cardiff from Potenza, who the waiter introduced as a ‘friend of the restaurant’ because she visited so often, and we discussed how authentic and flavoursome the food was throughout the meal. She said she refused to eat at other Italians in Cardiff because they were so far away from the standard she grew up with in Italy. My fiancée’s family life just outside Cardiff and we have been telling them how we can’t wait to take them to Giardini Di Sorrento next time we are in Wales. 10/10.

This is an authentic Italian restaurant run by authentic Italian people, serving authentic Italian dishes in a lively, friendly atmosphere. We had the Antipasto platter for two and, in reality, it was probably enough for four as a starter. My partner didn't finish her main course of pasta with a lamb ragu (but that's because she wanted to leave room for dessert). The rest of it came home and was lunch the next day. I asked whether they could make a spaghetti carbonara for me, despite the fact that it was not on the menu, partly because it's my favourite and partly because it's a great way to judge an Italian restaurant (in my mind) and this was our first visit. The carbonara was fantastic, probably the best I have had outside Italy. I should have been sensible and not eaten it all, but was far too delicious for that. We shared a dessert of cheesecake with a rich chocolate sauce. It was perfect in both flavour and texture. My only regret is that we discovered Giardini Di Sorrento just before we are due to move away from Cardiff. Just in case it isn't obvious from what I've written...I thoroughly recommend it.

So happy they do gluten free and normally I have a fab take away but the last meal was not possible to eat as it was soooooo salty, literally I LOVE salt but this was beyond I think it had been salted and then resalted I was gutted and for this I won't return 😔 the desert was so tasty and gluten free. Booked for 8pm, had to wait outside with any others. Please don't read that as a negative, if people are still at their table and others are waiting that shows how good a restaurant is. Drinks expertly served with humour, starters were sublime again served with humour. Smoked salmone was immense and unbelievably tasty, vegetarian antipasti was fantastico, mozzarella caprese was sublime. Mains, well here we go... Pizza Napoli were stunning, better than we were used to, so simple.and tasty. Tuna was done perfectly, and margarita pizza perfect. Drinks, cosmopolitan and moretti just spot on. Will be on our list to return, just a perfect taste of Southern Italy, perfecto. Grazi mille!

I had a delicious meal here. I had a crab linguine and they put a crab shell on the side as decoration. The linguine was cooked perfectly it blended well with the sauce. For dessert I had their three cheese cheesecake. I've had it before and this was the best one i've ever had. It was lovely and light. The staff were very kind and at the end they gave us a free slice of cheesecake in a takeaway box. I did not have a antipasto but I'm sure they were very nice. 5 stars

Had a lovely meal this evening. The restaurant was well arranged with plenty of safety measures in place. We took a recommendation from an Italian waiter who used to work in our favourite Italian, La Lupa in Canton, before it closed a few years ago 😥. The picnic box was amazing. There were loads of panini individually wrapped some with mozzarella and tomato, some with grilled courgettes sundried tomatoes, some with prosciutto and salame. My wife and I decided to take a rare opportunity to spend some time alone free from the kids and have a quiet meal together and a cheeky bottle of wine. We decided Italian and found this highly rated nook on a busy Cardiff strip. Well I'm bloody glad we did, what a fantastic place! The venue is nice food incredible and host amazing. We don't often get to have some time together and more often than not are left disappointed by commercial restaurants that are to sterile and lack character. This place is neither, we were blessed to be hosted by Max, a lovely man who is genuinely interested in your experience. But the best thing about the night has to be the feel of the place. Nothing better than Italian food, it's the best in the world! and even better when it has been lovingly prepared by Italians. It's a 15 out of 10 for me.

What a fantastic find, a genuine Italian restaurant run by Italians - if you want excellent food (i had spaghetti with monk fish on the side) then look no further. Well presented and oh so tasty. The service is just as good with nothing too much trouble including changes to your meal. Maybe not where you would normally go for a meal (City Road) but trust me it is certainly worth making the trip - without doubt the best Italian in Cardiff

I love this restaurant but tonight something was amiss. We had booked for 8.30 but when we arrived it was mayhem. People everywhere. One of the staff told us there had been a problem and everything was running half an hour late. We went back to wetherspoons and the lady came and called us when they were ready. No problem. Food was as always delicious. Service very good. But the one thing spoiling the evening was the shouting from the kitchen. It made everything feel stressful. The front of house gentleman gave us some wine on the house for our inconvenience which was a nice gesture but our evening felt different. It would not stop us returning because our previous experiences were much better but it's a shame.

Just been here for the second time with our 2 youngest kids. We tried each others meal and both agreed there's nothing on the menu we don't like. Everything is done to perfection and the staff and owner are amazing with kids. I went to "I Giardini Do Sorrento" to celebrate both mine and a close family members graduations. It was my first time at an Italian restaurant and I can say I had a lovely experience. The staff were friendly and helpful (even putting up with my terrible pronouncuation of the menu and giving me pointers). The food was of a high quality and was presented extremely well. I cannot comment on the price as I have no idea what is a reasonable price for an Italian meal but most starters were about £8 and most main courses we're about £15 each. Honestly I enjoyed the experience and would like to mention that they kindly gave us a bottle of prosecco on the house to congratulate us on our success. All in all, I believe they earned this 5 star review.

This place is really quite dear to me. Massimo - the restaurant's maître d' always makes me feel incredibly welcome, and whenever I've recommended friends to go here, he looks after them as well. I must've been here 5 times now, and the food has been absolutely stunning every time. It was recommended to me by an Italian customer I met through my job. He told me they make their pasta fresh on site, and that if I wanted to taste pasta dishes like they make them in Italy, then I should come here. Each time I've come back, I've brought new people with me, and ordered something different for my main course than I had on my previous visits. Their specials board is something my friends, family and I get excited for now. Whenever they visit me in Cardiff, they want me to get us booked in to come back! The venison ragu on wide pappardelle pasta noodles is really special. If that's not available, the texture of their fettucini makes it the best pasta I've ever had, hands-down.
