Reviews of Amarone

Lovely food, great atmosphere and excellent service. A little pricey but not out of the ordinary for the location and to be honest the fillet steak was exquisite. Colleagues had no complaints about the pizza or chicken dishes they had either.
Staff were attentive and service was quick.
Definitely one of my go to places when working in Edinburgh. Even on a Tuesday if you don't want one of the stool seating areas I would suggest booking in advance though as it's popular.

Beautiful venue, most of the food was good, pizza was a little overcooked, staff were friendly but the overall experience was disappointing. We were waiting at the door without being acknowledged for 4 minutes or so and then the host disappeared for a further 7 minutes until one of the servers took pity on us and went to chase up what was happening with our booking and got us to our table. By which point a large queue had formed and people were waiting in the cold despite lots of empty tables. Staffing issues are understandable but this seemed like poor management.
The non refundable deposit is cheeky, I strongly believe card details should be taken and no shows should be charged but during these challenging times being offered to reuse the credit at a later date isn't really an adequate solution when a large number of the guests are tourists.

Absolutely amazing food and experience!
*please liek this review I’d you found it helpful*
Me and my two friends went here on a busy day but they still managed to squeeze us in. They said we could eat if we managed to finish within 1h30 min or 13:30, can’t really remember which one it was but anyways we were super fine with that. Super kind of them to do that.
The food was really nice. We all had the margarita. My friend although didn’t get as much cheese as the rest of us and she decided to tell them about it because she was not please with it. And they immediately asked if she wanted a new one and they directly replaced it with no hesitation. We get it, there were a lot of people in the restaurant, sometimes these things happen.
The service was absolutely amazing! Super funny as kind guys working there. The girls were super nice too. But I liked that they were joking with us etc it really brightens your day and makes you happy. We left that restaurant fully content with both the food and service!
Super duper well done to the manager that hired those guys. We got the one from Spain and Romania and I think Greece, in case Amarone wants to know :P
But anyways, 10/10 would recommend for good food and good service.

Atmosphere in this place was amazing, we were sat right next to the open pizza kitchen, which was great to watch. Our waitress Vera was AMAZING so nice and had great banter with us, she really made the visit!
Front of house staff were a bit sour faced and were a bit unapproachable when we first came in.
We thoroughly enjoyed the pasta dishes and foccace, couldn't recommend this place more!

Came here for an early dinner on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was already packed. Service was quick, food and drinks were delicious. The interior is stunning.

Nice location and a great atmosphere. Excellent service, waiters were very friendly and attentive. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Portion sizes were good as well. Would visit again if in Edinburgh.

Pleasant enough place but the food is no better than ordinary and a little overpriced for what it is. The menu was different from the one on the website and the dishes I planned to order weren't available. A mere five, not large at all, gamberoni in my starter. My pasta dish supposedly included Italian spicy sausage but, if it was there at all, it was crumbled so finely into the very thick, gloopy sauce that it wasn't even noticeable. The best part of the meal was the chocolate delice dessert - and that's from someone who never usually bothers with sweet things, preferring savoury.

Dined here on Saturday evening. Luckily we had pre-booked a table. Very busy. Great meal good lively atmosphere. Very good service if a bit slow.
Don’t know if it is always this busy but i would advise you book in advance. Enjoyed it immensely and would happily recommend it.

Really lovely Italian restaurant, it's got a grand feel inside which isn't really obvious from the outside, and the atmosphere is upbeat and bustling. The service was quick and pleasant and the food was really good!

FANTASTIC VALUE, FOOD AND SERVICE
Managed to book a table for three people for 7:30 on a Tuesday the day before. It was fairly busy when we arrived so would definitely recommend booking. Amarone had a relaxing environment and a nice decor. The service was great with the waiters checking in every so often and accomodating some extra requests.
The starters were beautiful! The fried mozzarella sticks were indulgent with a lovely crispy coating and a soft cheesy inside. The prawns were perfectly cooked and were bathed in a tasty buttery sauce. I also had the bruschetta which had nice crunchy bread and fresh tomatoes.
I got the rigatoni pasta for mains. The ricotta, sausage, and tomato sauce all melded together to make a luxurious creamy sauce which made each bite extremely morish!
Bread had to be requested for the table so that the sauces from the pasta and starters could be scooped up. Definitely needed because all the sauces were so delicious.
I got the creme brulée for dessert and they made it fantastically with a crispy sweet top and creamy base. Although I probably wouldn't order it again as I'm personally not a fan of the lime tones throughout.
Overall, I had a great meal with great service and I can't wait to go again!

We visited today while in Edinburgh for our wedding anniversary, we didn't pre-book but had been recommended Amarone by a few friends. When we arrived we were told there were no tables ( disappointed faces), however the manager Alex managed after juggling a few things to find us a table. The food, staff and atmosphere in Amarone is second to none and this would not have been possible to experience if Alex had not managed to get us a table. Thank you Alex very much appreciated. 😁

I didn’t expect to give 5stars here. I was waiting bit long time for orders, and serving also bad and not carful. However table person cared my table a lot after meal and food was unexpectedly amazing. I definitely will visit again soon.

Went to Amarone as a walk-in on a weekday evening. Were able to get a seat within 20 minutes.
Food was really delicious, little pricey but worth it. Nice ambience and friendly staff who accommodated our requests attentively!
Well worth a visit for Italian food in Edinburgh. The tiramisu was delightful!

Sensational!
The whole dining atmosphere was beautiful and welcoming! Such a lovely restaurant! It seemed quite busy however the service was great! The staff were attentive and friendly!
The pizzas were some of the best I’ve ever had! The flavours were just (insert Italian kiss)! Nice range on the menu too! The lemon and lime crème brûlée was also refreshing!
Honestly one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to!
Grazie!

Arrived 1930, ordered by 1935 first course minestrone soup at 1945. Main pizza by 2005. Very efficient and friendly staff. Quite busy. Food good. Knives blunt lol. I would come back. Well recommended.

Food was delicious only 4* because they forgot our drink order !!

Had only coffees and desserts so cannot comment on dishes. Everything was lovely, especially our raspberry panna cotta, however few things need highlighting. First of all, the strawberry that was used for a decoration was old and half decomposed. Second of all, it's quite cheeky to add the tip to the bill without prior notice. 10% tip on two coffees and a dessert seems a bit much.

Not your everyday Italian place. I loved the linguine and scallops I got, but especially the presentation. The crème brûlée was also amazing, wish I had gone back just for that!

Very nice food. Very nice wine at a reasonable price. Excellent service : attentive and friendly. Very 👍 ce ambience. No more to be said.

Food is ok, service average, the table they gave us was in a weird spot right in the middle of the second room getting in after the bar. The bar at the entrance its beautiful I’d say that’s the best part to get your food. There’s a hall at the back and is also ok

Beautiful meal, lovely surroundings and lovely staff. Highly recommend.

Fantastic place serving delicious food
Sahem went above and bound to make our experience unforgettable

Really nice meal, we ordered piccante pizza and rigatoni pasta with a pate starter, service was spot and the price was good, I would highly recommended eating here if your looking for some where nice to eat in Edinburgh 👍

The place has a good ambience and is always filled with a good crowd. The food was just absolutely amazing and is good value for money. The staff were very polite and courteous as well. I will definitely give this place another visit.

Managed to get a table as a walk-in during a very busy and very rainy Saturday afternoon, food is unremarkable, but staff have been great

A great restaurant to visit if you're visiting Edinburgh.
Decor is stylish and clean, staff are very friendly and approachable.
The food arrived fast and was great.
I would recommend the desserts if you visit. Priced very fairly. 10/10

I would come to this place again but not because of food but because of the atmosphere. Fancy place, very busy, so service is not the best. Food not very high quality. Especially lamb was bad and carpacio also poor. Creme brule better to skip as well. Best of our dishes was veg buratta. Overall pretty poor, I would try pizza next time.

The food is good. No question. Service in the UK is often odd for me as an American. Tipping isn't really a thing and the servers work in groups or teams to provide service to everyone. To me, being a former restaurant owner, chef, etc., it seems to have an effect on the level of service you receive. Great servers generally but not the most attentive or dedicated service you experience in the US. Location is great and convenient to most things. Parking is ...well...it's the UK...parking is hell everywhere there. It's also expensive.

Food excellent.Have been here before _ so booked again .Very busy but the staff had it all well under control.

Go here to experience the fabulously opulent surroundings. On ground floor of grand old 1930s/40s insurance building with ornate pillars, domed ceiling, extravagant lighting. On a Wednesday evening in January we didn't need to book but there were still plenty of people in to give it a good atmosphere. Enjoyed our calzones and the service was efficient. Go to the loo downstairs and spot the huge metal door to a former strong room that is still in place!

Had a fantastic day with great food and service. When booking we requested a booth as it was for a 21st birthday celebration. We were given a perfect table, and my son was given a complimentary glass of bubbly which was a really nice touch. Superb.

Had lunch here today 8 Jan 2022 with my brother and his friend. Both who have learning disabilities. I had booked the table in advance asking for some space around the table as their mobility though good be a bit unsteady.
This table was placed well and also near the disabled toilet.
The staff were really friendly and attentive of the guys needs.
And to cap it all the food was superb.
Will definitely go back.
Big thank you to everyone.

Although fancy looking when you go in the atmosphere is fantastic, funny welcoming staff who make you feel at home and relaxed. The food is italian and very simple but cooked to a very high standard. The wine ranges between £20-50 a bottle. I cant wait to visit again

The food was lovely, beautiful restaurant service staff were very nice, food arrived promptly. I would have given this 5 stars however, my experience on entering was not pleasant. The gentleman at the entrance was rude, I belive this was either because we had a baby with buggy or he didn't like being corrected. We felt the buggy and newborn baby were the problem as our correction was about the need to take the buggy in as the baby was newborn.

Fantastic Italian in the centre of Edinburgh. Very busy lively atmosphere but quite relaxed. Very, very good food and great service.

Went for a fantastic meal last night with my Son. Both of us really enjoyed our choices. The staff were all efficient, friendly and polite. The atmosphere for a Tuesday evening was excellent. Michelle - Huluki Sussex Stays

Stumbled across this place and so glad we did. Food is amazing. Still sat here looking at my empty plate wanting to lick it clean. Absolutely amazing. They appear to be short staffed, but that's fine we aren't in a hurry.

No 1 m distance provided, I need to wait 10 minutes after receiving the bill to finally able to pay, overall slow service. Food and environment are very nice though, lunch offer is a nice touch as well.

One of the best Italian places I've been to, incredible service with great friendly staff. Must go for celebrations and any events.
R. C.
Nice decor, food and authentic menu but the service was a bit amateurish. Waiters a bit slow to respond. And got annoyed with not understanding the Edinburgh accent. They served across people and squeezed through behind my seat rather than taking a clearer route. Wouldn't go again. Sorry.

Nice atmosphere. The waiting staff were attentive and polite. Food was very good, although there were only a couple of vegetarian options on the menu. Price was reasonable. Would definitely recommend.

We arrived on time for our lunch for four of us. Our table wasn't ready therefore we stood about for 10 mins in the middle of the restaurant. Once we got our table and had our meal we were enjoying the wine we had purchased, when we were told our 2 hour slot was up and we had to leave, we asked if we could have the top for the wine as one of the bottles had 3/4 of it left and we were told no and the wine had to be left in the restaurant... absolutely shocking!!!!

Loved it. Very impromptu visit. Had been in a couple of places on George st, who all seemed to think they were doing us a favour letting us in. Not here though ... friendly staff, warm environment and good music. Would have eaten there as well if we hadn't already eaten.
Will definitely be back

Really good linguine dish, wait time for food was okay. Did make a mistake with one of the other guest's food but it was a quick resolution. Price was decent enough for the quality of the food and staff was friendly and attentive.

Nice venue but didn’t think much of the pumpkin ravioli - perhaps I ordered badly but it was dry, bland and expensive for what it was. On the plus side, good if you’re gluten free (I’m not but my friend was and had plenty of options).
