Reviews of Contini George Street
R. C.
Absolutely amazing restaurant. Not one of the tourist traps of restaurants. True Italian food of the best quality. Staff is amazing and check in frequently. Food is very, very good. Environment is exceptional.
C. S.
Wonderful experience at this place. Really friendly staff and food was delicious. I unfortunately didn't have space left for dessert after a starter and a main. Portions are nice and the cocktails are very good (definitely recommend the mojito!). Worth it!
R. S.
From an Italian guy.. really well done! Lovely presentation and attention to details. The starter was delicious and these 4 different kind of pasta were just perfect. Great service and cleanliness .. thanks guys
C. B.
Wow! This Italian restaurant is amazing!
Very nice ambiance, the staff are friendly and attentive and the FOODS are..oh my outstanding!...I came here with my friends and one of them is Italian and he gave a score 10/10 😁 so worth every penny and will definitely come back here again.
I highly recommend to book a table to make sure you get a seat
Starter = Focaccia bread
Main = Lobster Ravioli
Dessert = Panacotta
D. D.
Great food, Sicilian bliss cocktail caught me off guard, lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended

Had a double date here and it was really nice. We were surprised there was no pizza for an Italian restaurant but the pastas that we ordered were delicious. We all had 3 courses and each were very tasty. Very grand building and a nice setting. The staff were very attentive, although we would have liked a warning of when they would be closing instead of them just bringing the bill to us and basically throwing us out. Speaking of bill, we thought that it was very expensive, especially comparing it to Amarone on the other end of George Street. Also wasn’t a fan of how the menus where just left on the table, even whilst we were eating.
Overall, I am glad we went and it was an enjoyable experience.
M. D.
Food was delicious, staff was friendly and helpdul.
T. B.
An excellent lunch. Had the lemon sole in parmesan and cream, but also tried the calamari. Both were excellent and some of the best fish seafood I've had. Lovely selection of wines by the glass, and a special mention to the lovely and professional staff. A fabulously run restaurant.
A. M.
Unique Italian restaurant considering they don't serve pizza, but they do have some particular dishes you don't commonly find... somewhat on the expensive side, I wasn't blown away by the taste of the food, but I can't say it wasn't good either. Might be more of an acquired taste.

I'm not a fan of eating Italian cuisine in a restaurant, I find it a bit boring and overpriced. Contini changed my opinion, the dishes they offer are different and felt a bit more upmarket. The burrata starter was amazing, absolutely loved the combination of flavours. The main course wasn't as good but was still tasty. The prosecco was overpriced at £36 per bottle, I'm not sure why it's been priced so high considering everywhere else seems to sell it for less than £30.
The service and atmosphere was great.
R. G.
I went there for a breakfast. The location is very classic and nice, the food is super tasty. A little pricey compared to other places around, but it’s worth it!
M. C. N.
Food was great! Service was nice. Only downside was that we were right after trip in nature and we weren't dressed properly. We wanted to get good food and didn't realized that our dresscode is inapropriate. So we felt a bit uncomfortable. Otherwise is was an excellent experience!
A. B.
The food and service was excellent. However the menu is very limited in choice and I can’t help feeling robbed by the prices. I paid £22 for the ravioli which worked out at £3.66 per piece admittedly this was homemade but still, think of all the meal deals you could get for that
P. T.
I have visited Contini several times, pre- and post-pandemic. House white wine was very ordinary. Food is good but now has become extremely expensive to the point where other George St eateries are better value. Still, sign of the times I suppose
M. F.
Excellent restaurant with wonderful atmosphere, helpful waiters, delicious food and reasonable price.
S. S.
Fine enough experience. Service was good, food pretty average. Lots of dishes that would make Italians weep. Focaccia was really disappointing, the top crust was falling off when it arrived. Lacked any real flavour. Had much better from a supermarket. Burrata was equally poor, flavours didn't pair well and the cheese itself was cheap and lacking quality. The Cacio e Pepe isn't Cacio e Pepe so is simply a miss sell. Wouldn't recommend. With a city full of great restaurants it's one to skip
S. W.
Just got back from a lovely evening meal ,food was EXCELLENT and so we're the cocktails. Our waitress (think her name was fagan) was SO HELPFUL and FRIENDLY. .
e. g.
Lovely food and staff good. Menu hard to understand so need to Google a few words! 4 of us there and one meal forgotten about. But didn't take too long to get it.
K. H.
I took my fiancee for her birthday last week and it could not have been more perfect. The ambience was fantastic and the staff were attentive, friendly, and they made great food and wine recommendations which we really appreciated. The food is absolutely stunning- fresh, cooked with love, simple and yet very sophisticated. The pasta dishes are some of the best I've ever tasted. We loved every course and we so appreciated the little birthday details!
A huge thanks to the Contini team for making this one of the most memorable birthdays and we can't wait to come again!
C. H.
Friendly service and delicious breakfast options!
Ю. В.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff and absolutely amazing food. Probably the best cannoly I have had in the UK, made fresh at the restaurant with ricotta sourced locally too. Buratta I had for a starter with poached pears and hazelnut pesto was also divine. Absolutely recommend.
g.
Beautiful venue and good food. The service was friendly but inflexible. Menu not explained or specials introduced.
A. D.
Absolutely Perfect! This is the best Italian food I ate outside Italy. Everything was perfect! The service was absolutely amazing.. staff are so nice and kind! The restaurant looks absolutely stunning ... and the tiramisu is brought from heaven (best tiramisu I’ve ever eat.. sorry Mom but it better than yours..)
M. M.
Food was delicious! Great service and explanation of how things work at the moment (Covid). The mozzarella was better than anything I've had in Italy!
F. C.
Quiet spacious and diners well spaced out in this beautiful high ceilinged room. Excellent prompt service and wonderful food
J. M.
Amazing cocktails. Beautiful food. Plenty gluten free options...even gf focaccia!
S. B.
Just had a wonderful Contini at Home Meal... hand delivered by Victor. Great food , fabulous instructions and very easy to put together... nothing really to do except heat up the main ...
R. H. C.
We have always loved Contini and as usual everything was exceptional! Fresh, tasty, and served with a smile. One of the best places in Edinburgh to visit. We enjoyed a stunning red which just worked sensationally with the San Marzano tomatoes!! We shall be back.
M. M.
The staff here are amazing. Ella, our waitress was a delight. The food was some of the best I've ever tasted.
K. H.
Beautiful decor, amazing food and attentive staff. Will definitely be going back. A perfect lunch experience.
R. B.
Amazing setting and quality good. Menu and flavours were exquisite. Service was excellent too.
J. H.
We went looking for a lasagna and stepped into this Italian restaurant expecting it would be on the menu! It was not, but I am happy we decided to try the pasta dishes instead, both were amazing. Also the desserts were lovely!
K. W.
As always the food was good. Nice understated Christmas decorations (in addition to the 'everyday' decor. However, for me, the real star is the superb service.
N. M.
Experienced a wonderful lunch here. 5 stars for drinks, food, atmosphere & service! I would highly recommend for parties small or large.
D. C.
Food and ambiance are first class, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would have no problems recommending this restaurant. The owners Victor and Carina are caring and hard working front of house
C. S.
Set in what I presume is one of Edinburghs oldest buildings the atmosphere is low key. The waiting staff were very attentive and friendly. I enjoyed my prosciutto peach and walnut starter my main of chicken milanese was equally enjoyable. Will definitely be having a return visit
M. R.
Top end Italian food with great staff
S. K.
The service was excellent and the food delicious, in a very pleasant atmosphere. There was plenty space between tables.
J. H.
Best Italian food. Utterly delicious. Great service. Highly recommend. Thank you Contini!
T. M. M.
Great ambience, service and delicious food
J. N.
Dishes are quite small, and quite expensive. Service staff are fine, though not as friendly and warm as other Scottish restaurants.
Location and ambience are very good though. The building itself is impressive.
K. G.
The food was nice but we felt it was overpriced. The venue is beautiful though, so very nice for an occasion.
C. G.
Quality ingredients skilfully prepared. Even the balsamic vinegar and olive oil were to die for. What more could you ask for? Also love their dedicated vegan a la carte menu!
S. P.
Very good food, but slow service. Had to wait way to long for ordering of the desert and to get the recite.
L.
The location is beautiful but when you are dining it feels more like you are eating in a cafeteria as it seems more noisy. The food was okay but for the perfect touch we felt there was missing something. Therefore we loved the design of the plates.
I. L.
Food was delicious, they have an extended selection of wines. We arrive without reservation and they managed to give is a seat. We also tried the raviolis and they are superb!
A. C.
Authentic Italian food in central Edinburgh - a dream! The amatriciana is fantastic and I also loved the starter focaccia. Not on the cheap side but absolutely worth every penny!
M. K.
Had an amazing meal at Contini's.
Beautiful ambience at the restaurant and the food was so scrumptious.
L. L.
Delicious food, great service, stunning decor.......would highly recommend.
C. L.
Nice atmosphere, good aperitivo and great Focaccia to go with drinks.
N. D.
Absolutely amazing decor, amazing food and staff very friendly. Hands down one of the best breakfasts I've eaten. Cant wait to come back.
G. T.
A top Italian restaurant and cuisine with young and alert service. Wonderful interior with sparkling paintings in the cieling and a warm and nice ambience inside this vivid restaurant in the Contini family little empire we shure recommend it warmly.🌞👍
E. R.
Service was not good and had a strong negative effect on my dinner. One of my drinks didn’t come along with only being given one glass of water at a time, which kept me thirsty and unable to continue eating my food. The salad and focaccia were good but the house pasta was meh and overpowered by the pepper. I should have skipped dessert as the doughnuts were clearly heated up from frozen.
J. T.
Attentive staff, great cocktails and the food we had was fabulous.
L. G.
Fairly unspectacular. Heard good things so was expecting a little more than we got. Quite high pricing for pasta and steak but good for Offers etc. Went to the ladies room and was stranded as no toilet roll. Also need to offer more non alcoholic options.
T. S.
The food in this Italian restaurant is amazing. The taste and quality cannot be faulted. The staff are very friendly and service is excellent. I dined here with my friends and was not sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised, absolutely magnificent dining hall to add to the experience, you wont go wrong for fine dining here. Highly recommended.
J. B.
Beautiful bar/restaurant. Staff very friendly, especially the Spanish lady at the entrance. Wasn't a loud place, so able to have a conversation without raising your voice.
S. S.
Beautiful food, lovely atmosphere and stunning interior. We went for breakfast and although their system was down the staff were incredibly attentive and it didn’t effect our experience at all.
O. S.
Delicious food in a restaurant with a great atmosphere, we liked it so much for lunch that we came back for dinner the next day! Good for GF options and great cocktails
T. M.
Went here for a team night out and had a great time, lovely food, good service and atmosphere. The menu is varied and the kitchen appears to be very flexible and accomodating of dietary requirements. Perfectly located in then city centre, I'd definitely recommend this place for any team or group events
L. H.
The best Italian I have ever been to in Great Britain. Me and my gf managed to get a table in the evening for dinner. The next day my gf was filming in Edinburgh so I decided to sneakily head to Contini for lunch on my own. I managed to time it, just right at 2.30 when they had a table.
Contadino is by far the best pasta dish I hage ever eaten. Also the Proscuitto Di Parma. They hit every mark. Service, drinks, food. The senior staff are making sure the Junior staff are on the mark. The waiters are very knowledgeable and take the order with no note pad. They are professional people taking pride in their work. If every restaurant was like this is would be printing money. The decor is fantastic, fresh and is of 5 star quality. Without doubt one of the best in Edinburgh if not the whole UK for italian food and not a Pizza in sight!
M. R.
Delicious tiramisu, the waiter was incredibly polite! Definitely worth the customer service charge :)
S. B.
We arrived on a busy sunny Sunday afternoon & my friend managed to get a table even though we had not booked. Waiting to order we saw people drinking lovely chilled Rose wine & thought that’s definitely for us & went ahead & ordered a bottle & a few minutes later were told that it had ran out. Martina the restaurant manager was amazing she apologised and was so professional we decided to choose a bottle of white. The service she provided along with her team was amazing. Thanks so much!
W. M.
First class food great service very good.
A. G.
Very nice Italian food served here in a grand room with nice friendly staff. Food was delicious and a nice selection of cocktails and wines.
R. T.
Lovely ambience, good service and delicious pasta. Save room for dessert - there is an interesting selection of affogato options
A. L.
Gluten free menu available (cannot guarantee no cross contamination, but who can 🤷). Burrata was good, pasta okay. Lovely space.
B.
Excellent service, we only dropped in for coffee but were treated very well. The server (sorry didn't get your name) was polite, prompt and well presented making sure our water was topped up and everything was ok for us. A bit more expensive than other establishments but well worth it for the service given.
H. H.
A superb restaurant. Waiting staff were professional and helpful. Fantastic food: I had orecchiette that was fresh and cooked beautifully. Very surprised at how large the portion sizes were. Will be back in future.
D. J.
Had planned to go here for dinner after having a few drinks but the experience we had while having the drinks put us off so much that we went elsewhere. Firstly though, our server was trying his absolute best and did really try and improve the experience for us. We showed up and were told we were better to have drinks outside as restaurant was closing, that was fine we were then taken out to a queue by the manager, by then another couple had joined the queue. The manager was like well yous can just choose who was here first. Not particularly professional. Our server though had recognised we had enquired first and took as too a table. The table was in direct sunlight, so we aksed if we could get pints of water. We were told no they didn't do pints we could only have a small glass and they'd top it up. Of course tho it was incredibly busy and everyone wanted water so was impossible for the staff to keep up. There was one table in the shade so when the guests left there, I asked our server if it was okay to move there. He said he'd sort it but they aren't supposed to be move people. Unsure why as surely its important to try and make your guests as comfortable as possible. Once we were moved to the new table, my water glass had been removed. I asked 3 different people for a new one, all of which it still didn't arrive and 1 server complained when I asked. All in all not a great experience and there is definitely improvements to be made.
F. S.
Lovely atmosphere and super friendly staff will definitely be back
F. F.
Delicious food, smiley staff. Excellent.
B. M.
It was lovely but found the covid rules very strange . The manager or front of house woman who didn't dress in the same colours as her staff was def strict and conforming to rules . They would touch our plates or glasses and we had to take from the trays and also had to.put them.back on trays when we finished I have to say that my whole experience 8n Edinburgh was strange . Strict but not asking for tracking if outside to asking for tracking outside . It was so good to see the city coming to life .everyone was adhering to guidelines but they just need to know what rules are
R. W.
Beautiful bar and restaurant. Made very welcome by staff. Excellent Negronis. Will return for a meal.
P. R.
Beautiful space, creative simple Italian food with beautiful flavour combinations and great pasta. I.e. Buffalo Mozzarella, toasted fennel, blood orange, olive tuile and avocado puree.
D. D.
♧ Very nice place ♤ Staff kind and very friendly! 😊 I will be back really soon! ☆☆☆☆☆
S. M.
Very pleasant brunch - although disappointed that there was no croissants!
S. B.
Classic fine dining experience but overpriced for what you get. The door was fresh and good, the main course had a generous portion too. The environment is nice and I would have preferred to see the waitress pouring the wine into the glass rather than getting a glass of wine (personal preference). Staff were efficient.
M. P.
Friendly, attentive staff. A well organised restaurant and the breakfast was superb. Quickly served and tasty. Recommended.
R. S.
Amazing restaurant. It's missing a star because of the slow service and the little variety of food options. Great Italian food. Big portions.
L. D.
We recently ordered the Roma Menu from Contini At Home 2020. The food was delicious. Wonderfully fresh and beautifully cooked. Their usual high standards maintained despite difficult conditions. One birthday treat down, another to go....our order has just been placed 😋. Well done Victor, Carina and the Team 👏🏻👏🏻
M. s.
Ordered Carina’s Set Menu for 2 from Contini At Home and it was fantastic. We knew it would taste amazing but the presentation made it feel like a restaurant meal. Super impressed and will order again.
G. E.
Great food in a startlingly beautiful building.
A. G.
Don't get me wrong - We enjoyed our evening - excellent staff, great food and a buzzing atmosphere. Just a little pricy for good Italian food.
G. S.
We had such a fabulous experience here that we decided to go back the following night. We enjoyed the arancini, dough balls, lobster with spaghetti and ravioli. We were welcomed by the Victor the owner and made to feel special by his wife who served us with such grace. They truly are a remarkable couple and the serving staff were fantastic! Thank you!
J. F.
Brilliant for anything from just a coffee to cocktails and dinner!
C. H.
Review is for Home Delivery - now had a delivery meal twice and both times it was a great experience. Food was beautiful, fresh and tasty. Presentation was good (in compostable packaging 10/10!) and delivery timing as promised. This is not a cheap delivery option but a premium service well worth pushing the boat out for. Treat yourself!
G. J.
Great food, finest ingredients (burrata is the best I have tried) with a comprehensive winelist, good service and grand and airy ambience. One of my favourite places in Edinburgh.
F. C.
We ordered from Contini home a week ago and were impressed by the quantity as well as the quality of the meal delivered to our house. It's such authentic Italian food. We had to heat the main course but other than that it was like eating the same meal we would have ordered sitting in the restaurant. We have since looked at other restaurants in Edinburgh offering home food during the lockdown but in terms of menu and value for money we haven't been tempted to order from any of them. We ordered a meal for two from Contini for our daughter and son-in-law who really enjoyed it even though they prefer Cannonball . We've now ordered another meal for this coming Saturday evening. It may not be quite as good as going into a restaurant but it's a great treat to have a night off from cooking and have quality food.
D. B.
Always a great pleasure to eat in this wonderfully authentic Italian restaurant. From the second you arrive, the service is warm, friendly and efficient.
The dining room itself is beautiful and serves to enhance your eating pleasure.
Then -the menu – ah, the menu. The hardest part is deciding what to leave out. Fabulously Italian – definitely the best I’ve eaten in Scotland.
With a good and reasonably priced wine list.
All in all, a great experience and well worth a visit when you’re in town. Whether it be for business or pleasure. You and your guests won’t fail to be impressed.
I just love this place.
P. C.
Nice surrounding, good food. Staff a bit perfunctory - I had contacted the restaurant to say that it was a special occasion for us. There was no acknowledgement of any sort when we visited.
S. F.
Wow, it is stellar. Fantastic food, amazing room and great service by a woman named Laura from Spain. We had calamari, a small portion of two of their pastas and split a main course. We topped that off with the chocolate tort -- amazing. Great wine list by the glass and by the bottle. They make their own pasta and everything else as far as we could tell. It's a very good choice for Italian, that's sure.
A. L.
We had our third delicious meal delivered last night (and enough left to have it again today yum). Don't know Carina but she picked a fabby 3 course menu so like her already (close your eyes and you could be in Italy! 😍.) Thank you so much for bringing such lovely food to us x
D. R. M.
Stopped by for a thick hot chocolate! Just delicious. Service is good but i found them a little over attentive. Hence the reason for 4 stars. As we were chatting they kept coming to top our water up even if it was nearly full...
E. B. j.
This was an amazing dining experience. The restaurant is in a beautifully restored bank building. Our server Keri was attentive and helpful. The food quite simply was the best Italian dishes we’ve had in our European travels. I highly recommend this restaurant as it meets all criteria; fabulous menu, beautiful ambience, wonderful wait staff, quality wine list while being amazingly affordable.
s. k.
No words can describe the meal we had hear light night. Usually when you are out for Christmas meal you don’t expect it to be great but this place proved it wrong. We had a private dining room and a special person assigned to look after us. He was the sweetest guy I met. Our table was laid out perfectly with beautiful Christmas decorations. The food was so good that each and every place served went back clean and clear. The wine selection was top class and the cocktails etc were good too. You won us over. I also happened to meet the owner and he was so polite and proud of his place.

Authentic food in a beautiful setting
Despite the difficult times we find ourselves in, Continis continues to deliver as it has always done and is know for. Amazing food,, attention to detail and all the measures they have taken to ensure a safe visit are exceptional.
We were well informed on arrival of all the safety measures they had put in place.
The food? AMAZING. Authentic, delicious Italian food made with love and care.
Victor, Carina and the staff have so much passion for what they do which ensured a very comfortable, enjoyable meal for our wedding anniversary. We have no hesitation in recommending Continis to anyone. You must go!
Well done Team Contini.
K. T.
I was looking forward to lunch at Contini, George Street but was disappointed overall. Service could have been more efficient and the food should have been hotter. Not, in my opinion good value.
K. D.
Delicious food, Friendly and obliging staff, with external seating area on George Street.Main restaurant is spacious with tables / seating arranged in bays, with some standard tables available as well.Toilet location on lower ground floor accessed by steps, with a disabled toilet positioned just off the main restaurant dining area.Clean and spacious restaurant.
N. M.
Excellent quality of food and service, staff were extremely friendly and explained where the food was sourced from - 10/10 experience
T. W.
Nice experience, interesting menu but a tad pricey for what I got. The weather was nice and it's enjoyable to sit outside, in a traffic-free Street
K.
Decorative Italian renaissance walls - nice mixture of privacy and sociable areas- great food and professional friendly personal. Great selection of food .
H.
Came to Contini for breakfast which was wonderful and makes we want to return to try lunch and dinner! Service was very friendly and the Full Scottish breakfast was exceptional.
A. O.
The restaurant itself has a very pleasant ambience and the staff are very friendly…they go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable.
R. A.
Ordered the family lasagne from the 'at home' menu. What a treat😋. Great flavours, melt in the mouth texture. Home delivery was simple and efficient. Thanks to the Contini team for a bit of exceptional enjoyment at this strange time.
L. S.
Awesome food, service is the very best, atmosphere is beautiful and very comfortable. Ask for Alexander as a server. He will impress you with his knowledge and attention to your needs. He is 5 star.
Vicente, the whole experience was wonderful!!!
Thank You
D. H.
A great restaurant set in a beautifully decorated room. We had pre-booked a special offer lunch and on arrival we were shown to our table where the appropriate menus for our deal had already been set out. Despite the competitive price we had a good choice of dishes to choose from. Service was generally prompt and polite. The food was delicious and hot. There was a slight delay in paying the bill but, that aside, it was a very pleasant experience. We will be going back.
T. H.
Beautiful restaurant and fabulous cocktails, very fancy.
M. E.
Really top quality food. There are a lot of higher end restaurants in this part of town but Contini excels with its flavours and the fact that each ingredient stands out in the dish and does not get lost. Wonderful high ceilinged space. Pleasant and attentive service. You can't go wrong!
R. L.
My friend and I were looking forward to a long awaited catch up and a coffee. Contini proved to be just the place. The seating is comfortable and the layout allows a degree of privacy. Staff were helpful and friendly without being intrusive. Coffees and teas were excellent. The building, which is an old bank, is stunning, and has been tastefully decorated. We have already said we will visit again, next time for lunch.
C. S.
I have just finished the main course from Continiathome - a delicious Easter Saturday dinner after a sunny day golfing and cycling.
The Contini classic menu is a winner. Mozzarella with roasted datterini tomatoes is refreshing as well as delicious and especially when Carina has done the cooking! The soft flavoursome focaccia is perfect. Then the chicken Milanese with radicchio, preserved lemon and gremolata - makes me feel good to be alive after a year of pandemic. Finally the rich indulgent tiramisu leaves me with a feeling of luxury and relaxation.
The thing is Contini have kept us going with the newsletters and takeaway meals along with other restaurants like La Garrigue, the Wee Restaurant (N Queensferry, alright I know it’s just out of zone), Cote, Fin and Grape, the Rabbithole and a few others but many well known names are missing. Couldn’t be bothered? Takeaways not our image? What about your customers? They’ll come back. Really? I’ll be supporting the heroes not the “no shows”.
M. B.
Great food, beautiful setting, excellent service from Fortunato. The place is airy enough that social distancing is easy and it all feels very normal. Will definitely be back next time we are in Edinburgh.
D. D.
Great food in a stunning building.
This place manages to retain an unpretentious feel despite it’s Georgian setting. Our 3 year old was dining with us and we were made to feel welcome.
S. D.
Beautiful food, beautiful atmosphere, thoroughly enjoyed it.
B. R.
Amazing restaurant. Favourite it Edinburgh. They do a great job of balancing the challenges of keeping us safe while offering a great service. Food l, as always, fabulous.
M. M.
Stunning, fabulous Italian restaurant. Beautiful blue and white Wedgewood style decor, crystal chandeliers, candlelit setting, white, marble tables. Delicious food which was very generous portion sizes. The only moan I have would be about the wine. It's far too expensive, and I got half a glass?! I don't understand that.
A. S.
Excellent food selection, healthy or hearty, all tasty. Appears to be no ramp for the front steps. Good toilets. Very friendly and helpful staff. Been twice in 2 days, so good.
R. W.
Went back to Contini, George Street for breakfast. The last time I was there for breakfast the experience was so bad that I had to do a 1 star review on TA. I had their fresh orange juice and fruit salad which was delicious. The juice was really fresh as they squeeze the oranges on site.
I was looked after by the lovely Laura, message to management, look after her she is good.
Whenever I have been there for dinner it has always been great.
Will definitely be going back to Contini, George Street again.
L. H.
One of the best Italian cuisine I've ever had! The pasta were incredibly fresh, handmade and delicate. I started with a crab & watermelon salad, and my partner ordered the mushroom pasta. Both were good portions for starters and played beautifully!
For mains, we had the roasted chicken breast and a spring pasta with fresh basil and tomato. Both were delightful! We will definitely be back :)
l.
Delishious food! Would highly recommend
L. A.
We wandered into this place for a drink or cocktail, not sure what to expect, we were a little early for a dinner rush, so the place was quiet, but we were welcomed in by the friendly owner.
It doesn't seem the place to go for just a drink instead of a meal, but we were seated happily. We were recommended a bottle of their house prosecco, which was absolutely delicious!
There's a story behind their especially produced bubbly, we were given complimentary snacks. I intend to go back very soon, as this is maybe the most hospitable restaurant in Edinburgh.

A last minute decision to go back to an old favourite did not disappoint. Delicious food, wonderfully attentive staff & unhurried atmosphere. Nice to be reminded how much of a gem this restaurant is!
C. R.
Very good service, friendly staff, salad buffet healthy and tastes better than expected. Only problem I had was it said the pizza buffet was open weekdays, but on the bank holiday it wasn't. If they said it was on a sign or something it would be a 5 star review

A warm reception from entry to exit. Fantastic service and a tasteful decor inside the building. Food is perfected by chefs who know just what they’re doing and beautifully presented too. Only fault I could find were the portions were a little small but other than that it was an experience which leaves me happy to return another time.
A. S.
Beautiful ambiance and lovely setting. The sausage dish on the pre-theatre menu is very tasty and the staff are always very respectful and low key. Highly recommended for the discerning foodie.
G. F.
Had a lovely breakfast today at Contini, great staff and friendly service. I was very pleased to see all the precautions taken by the staff when serving and interacting with the customers. Overall I had a wonderful experience.
A. S.
Wonderful service, great taste, strongly recommend!
N. G.
The food was absolutely amazing and the staff members were all extremely friendly. The restaurant has a very welcoming atmosphere. The only downside is that I got sick after eating what was meant to be a Gluten free pasta dish. Other than that everything was excellent.
A. D. a.
Great lunch today in Contini. The food was excellent and the service and attention to detail was very impressive. I will highly recommend Contini for a lovely meal in an nice friendly atmosphere!!!
K. M.
The atmosphere at Contini was really good. We went for an evening meal with a 5 year old and to be honest it's probably the great way she was looked after that the stars are for. They had a special kids menu and bought her food out really quickly so all good in terms of keeping her satisfied. I ordered the pork cheek risotto . The risotto was cooked to perfection but the pork cheeks didnt taste fresh. The plates were so hot when they came that our waiter burnt his fingers trying to take them off the tray and then ended up literally throwing them onto our table. Luckily no one was hurt. Also the bombolinis which I ordered for dessert were clearly microwaved from frozen as was slightly cold in the centre and extremely hot outside. This place has real potential to be amazing but needs to pick its game back up on food.
D. D.
I have to recommend this restaurant for morning breakfasts. The Italian restaurant is quite stylish inside and has lots of space to if you have a lot of people to go for food with. The breakfasts themselves have a wide choice, with the traditional Scottish breakfasts being fantastic. It also serves alcohol early so if you want cocktails at 10 this is a fantastic place to come. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
J. L.
Second time I am visiting this restaurant and the food is always great and the service really good. A bit pricey but all worth it. The decor is amazing !
D.
Nice big airy space, I had breakfast so wasn't really busy and plenty of space between tables. Staff very efficient and friendly. Breakfast was good organic eggs always a bonus.
R. C.
I had a lunch here. Beautiful venue, great service, best Italian food ever.
m. d.
This place is amazing it a must if you are ever in Edinburgh
P. B.
A firm favourite, recently had the date night delivery. Worth every penny.
L. S.
Awesome food, service is the very best, atmosphere is beautiful and very comfortable. Ask for Alexander as a server. He will impress you with his knowledge and attention to your needs. He is 5 star. …
D. R. M.
Stopped by for a thick hot chocolate! Just delicious. Service is good but i found them a little over attentive. Hence the reason for 4 stars. As we were chatting they kept coming to top our water up even if it was nearly full...
T. K.
Nice food, the service was too slow.
R. G.
Great location (former Royal Bank of Scotland), great food, great service.
J. L.
Second time I am visiting this restaurant and the food is always great and the service really good. A bit pricey but all worth it. The decor is amazing !
L. T.
A gem of a restuarant nestled at the heart of edinburgh high street. I went last winter however I am sure the standards are still as high as it is now as it is back then. Great service, pasta was cooked very well, dessert was delicious and its surprisingly priced quite well. No outrageous prices
P. M.
Good food, nice venue, but service was a bit slapdash.
J. W.
Another excellent meal at this delightful restaurant. The menu is modern Scots - Italian. The food is freshly prepared with a good choice. Service is prompt but never rushed. Wine list is excellent and not overpiced.
E. A.
Good food (loved the pasta), nice wine and friendly staff. The room is beautiful with high ceiling. You can get some Italian lesson in the bathroom as well!
i. 2.
Great food, decent friendly staff, need to bring back the Orlando pizza was a favourite of mine
J. S.
Really impressive interior. Even if neo-classical isn't to your taste, you have to marvel at the height of the ceiling! We went for a post sleeper train breakfast and found the food really good quality and skillfully prepared (poached eggs were perfect). It was a couple of pounds more expensive than online, but I think you can forgive failure to update a website. Service was attentive. I would happily eat there again
N. D.
Enjoyed the lovely festive lunch menu and gorgeous non alcoholic cocktails(sign of the times), service was great, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere
M. H.
Great welcome, super food and wine all cooked and served with great care and attention by highly trained competent and friendly staff.
Lovely to be back and meet the hosts and staff again.
W.
A dining experience I'll never forget. The building, the food, the drinks, exceeded expectations by far! You haven't eaten Italian until you've eaten at Contini.
G. S.
Five star experience in this authentic Italian restaurant. The very friendly staff told us all produce comes in fresh from Milan! Fab experience and gorgeous wine. Definitely not one to miss.
J.
Breakfast was ok but certainly not the best that we’ve had by some margin. Staff were pleasant.
D. M.
Super service!!!
Excellent starter!
Average main course.
R. P.
Contini George Street is the original of three restaurants run by a Scottish-Italian family - the other two being the Cannonball Restaurant and Bar just outside Edinburgh Castle, and The Scottish Restaurant and Cafe at the Scottish National Gallery (I visited all three during my stay).
I visited Contini for my first breakfast in Edinburgh. It may seem odd coming to an Italian restaurant for breakfast, but they do a good Scottish breakfast. I was seated to the rear of the restaurant by the waitress and left for a few minutes to look over the menu. The plan for the day was to walk up to the Castle, and then do the Scottish Whiskey Experience with the tasting of four whiskies, so I needed something to set me up until lunchtime. I plumped for Nona's pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, and a black Americano.
The coffee arrived promptly, and was delicious as you would expect from an Italian restaurant. The pancakes and bacon arrived a short time later, with a good-sized jug of maple syrup. The bacon was perfectly good, though I usually like mine a little crispier. I think I pretty much drowned everything in the syrup (it's the law), and I still had some left over - exactly as it should be, as I can't stand it when you don't have enough syrup.
Service was prompt and efficient, and if I find myself in Edinburgh in need of breakfast, Contini will be near the top of my list.
J. P.
Lovely dinner and great experience.
g. t.
Service and decor was lovely but food was underwhelming and lacked seasoning. Menu is limited with only a few choices.
S. M.
Fabulous food fabulous staff would certainly recommend
M. R.
Fresh, tasty food. Italian cuisine but often with Scottish ingredients. I enjoy eating here, especially with one of the range of negroni cocktails that they make.
G. C.
Absolutely delicious food and brilliant service, including being welcomed and shown to the table by the owner himself. Possibly the best arancini I've had in my life.
G. C.
Quality food, not cheap but you get what you pay for and this was worth it. Friendly delivery and recyclable packaging added to the experience. The Milanese chicken was superb.
E. M.
Great experience! Lovely atmosphere inside with friendly staff and authentic Italian cooking. Would definitely recommend!
C. N.
Very pleasant staff excellent food, very enjoyable experience
A. J.
Hostess and server were great. Food incredible. A little bit pricy for Edinburgh but close to Castle so expected. Best oysters I ever had.
F. W.
Unbelievably beautiful place for food, coffee and especially their sumptuous hot chocolate. The decor is clean, elegant, stylish and lots of folks are busy networking, having business chats, and moving the world forward cappucino by cappucino.
Food is fabulous but the service is a tad abrupt. Nobody minds being moved from one large table to a smaller one when folks have moved on, but the snappy tone was rather misguided, and the failure to propose another table when all seemed full, was a tad unwelcome. We had a big social media expert in from America who was appalled at the attitude and was determined to make friends but the only reception was frosty and peremptory.
Hope it was just a bad day and it's not always like this
a. a.
Pretty darn great. Lovely staff, great food, and awesome drinks! Been here twice in the last week (my mum and sister have been 3 times this week)!
J. M.
Fine classical revival interior in this former bank. Lovely coffee and pleasant staff.
E. N.
The place is really beautiful and Central, the food is properly prepared and presented, the waiters and waitress are really nice BUT:
1) the menu is overpriced for that kind of italian dishes, and portions are small .
2)The menu prices are misleading, because
the pasta is usually a main course (80/90g of pasta plus sauce) but in Contini, the pasta is served like a spanish tapas portion, which is small, like 50/60 g, but with the price of a normal sized dish of pasta (8/9£) so it is too expensive for the quantities.
3)Other thing: the option of "2 courses for 15£" is only available till 7pm but on the menu is not stated.
Beverages are really overpriced. Water at 4.50£ with no other cheaper options is a bit too much , not honest at all.
S. M.
Amazing food and great waiter experience. Offered solid advice on wine and food choices, was polite and not overbearing. Great evening meal.
R. A.
always had a great time at continis, family have as well great people would highly recommend. bring back pizza I beg you
R. C.
I had a lunch here. Beautiful venue, great service, best Italian food ever.
L. W.
Contini is one of my favourite places in Edinburgh for a luxurious breakfast. The "breakfast salad" is the best fruit and oats type offering I've seen outside of a hotel breakfast bar, and topped with passion fruit, is a pretty and healthy treat.
For carnivores, the bacon roll is a generous helping of good quality, thick-cut bacon on toasted ciabatta. Just the right amount of crunch and flavour. Yum.
The coffee is good, the staff attentive, and the surroundings (a high-ceilinged ex-bank, with crisp white walls and natural light) are slick.
C. T.
Wonderful service overall. Very attentive waiters. Presentation of food was excellent-very colourful and creative, but was exaggerated price for the flavour of the Food!
D. I.
The Contini At Home delivery system during lock down is excellent. Fresh, high quality and imaginative menus brought to your door by Victor himself!
S. R.
Centotre is a great place to come for pre-dinner drinks and we often come here before heading towards Gusto down the road to eat. The service is very good, servers are very attentive and the building is really nice just to sit in.
A. D.
Delicious food served with a smile. Well worth a visit.
A. A.
Excellent service, delicious food. They handled my dairy intolerance with grace and were willing to offer almost every dish with a modification to suit.
A. S.
Very friendly. Great coffee. Amazing scones with homemade jam.
J. S.
The food was tasty (I had one of the pasta dishes) but a bit pricey. Their largest beer is 2/3 of a pint for £5.
A.
Great food, even better service. Staff are very accommodating and knowledgabke. The food is fresh and locally sourced. I definitely recommend.
Z. P.
Centotre do food all day long (and rather good food at that!) but my favourite time to come here is at breakfast. Other people may choose the bacon rolls, but it's the exquisite fruit salads that do it for me. Fresh fruit, yoghurt and toasted blossom honeyed oats – a surprisingly filling and fantastic tasting way to start the day.
M. v. E.
Friendly people, atmosphere fantastic, good strong delicious coffee and the spaghetti is so fresh made and authentic of taste! The fresh tomatoes!! So jummie!!
T. W.
Having such a dining experience at Contini definitely appears to be the great choice during my trip in Edinburgh. The restaurant perfectly tackles the difficulties to have authentic Italian food in the non-Italian region, which magically let Italian cooking with fresh local Scotch ingredients, the beef Carpaccio is mind blowing which stands out the freshness of the raw beef and the aroma of the mozzarella cheese intensely, this tastes way better than the seafood sashimi in a sense. Second appetizer I had is the burrata cheese with beet roots/hazelnut, another classic dish with Scotland twist. Last but definitely not the least, the spaghetti pomodorini con oliva once again outshined the strong Italian taste - simple/classic. Well, in terms of the dining hall, it is absolutely lovely, romantic and enjoyable.
A.
Highly recommend this place. Food very tasty I never eaten such good ravioli and staff very friendly. I felt there very enjoyable. I will back there I am sure. 👏👌
m. r.
Interior a bit the Domeesque...staff really lovely and helpful...food first class....they actually had a great quality glass of my favourite italian red...Primitivo di Manduria..game changer...we'll be back!
E. P.
The breakfast was absolutely delicious and staff were excellent even storing our suitcases while we ate. Would highly recommend this place.
A. B.
Fantastic food and service I'd highly recommend visiting this restaurant
D. H.
Recently had our 3rd work Christmas meal at this restaurant. Beautiful food and great service as always. Highly recommend.
K. C.
Was there for a works brunch/breakfast Monday 16th Dec, beautiful building, excellent food and lovely staff. Had never been before but will definitely return.
V.
Arrived late afternoon in Edinburgh, very tired and hungry. Contacted Contini who booked us a table for 6pm, even though it was after 5pm when I called them.
Once again excellent service from Contini. Seated as soon as we arrived and drinks were at our table within minutes, staff remembered our preferences ..... this makes coming to Contini's very special. The food was just superb, from the starters to the dessert. My daughter had the MARGHERITA PIZZA which was just perfection in her opinion, I had the RAVIOLI FATTI IN CASA, delicious, and the other diner had a seafood dish I have forgotten the name of, but he was thrilled with his meal.
Contini never fails to impress from the welcome at the door the our goodbyes after our meal.
Staff are just fabulous, knowledgeable; friendly; approachable and take the time to make one feel at home.
Always a delight to visit our favourite restaurant in Edinburgh.
Visited February 2015
M. K.
Good place for food. More restaurant than bar but the booths allow for interesting conversations between diners. Service good.
R. G.
The manager and the staff is too friendly and great at serving. Food was good too
S. D. M.
On previous visits I have been generally impressed. On a recent visit, the quality of the dish was poor and the service average. Let's hope this was simply down to a bad day.
S. M.
Lovely food and atmosphere
B. S.
We only stopped in for coffee, but it was lovely. Staff friendly and attentive, would like to come back for food as well next time.
L. M.
A fantastic breakfast enjoyed by all 10 of us. Delivered promptly and with a friendly efficient service in a lovely high ceiling building. Definitely recommend.
J. J.
Service is brilliant. Food is mediocre and menu is limited. We found it overpriced and most pasta options have tomato sauce (which I hate). Decor is quite nice.
M. D.
We only sat outside for a drink (not indoors as we hadn't booked dining) at the end of a busy shopping day. Service was excellent.
N. M.
Really nice meal. Friendly staff. Cater well for vegan and gluten free so everyone in our group was happy
B. D.
Location and interior is fantastic. Food menu could have a little more variation. My fiancee struggled to pick something, although I had no problem.
S.
Came in for brunch really lovely inside comfortable and welcoming staff are attentive food was fab tasty and filling price is not cheap but worth the money. Would come again.
r. h.
Visited here using a voucher from 5pm/ This place is fab. the food was excellent, the staff helpful, well worth the money. It is probably one of the best places in Edinburgh city centre
R.
Seemed like a cool place but overly expensive.
M. H.
A real Italian experience with excellent food sourced from the best suppliers in Scotland and Italy and a wonderful wine list full of delicious delights. Go, treat yourself and support all that's best about Edinburgh's food culture.
R. G.
Great location (former Royal Bank of Scotland), great food, great service.
P. D. J.
We were in Edinburgh on a Family outing from South Africa as our heritage is in Scotland. Lots of dining restaurants there but nothing like this one! Beuatifull setting, happy atmosfere.awesome people serving there and astonishingly great food! Owner always around not like other businesses! If I bring Jamie Oliver and Ramsy they will rate it five star asswell! My onest rating is six stars for that fine touch! Nothing like this in South Africa, will definitely be back in the future! Recommend this fine Italian restaurant too any one traveling thru Edinburgh! Absolutely awesome!
O. C.
The food was brilliant, and well priced with it. The atmosphere was amazing as well; what a venue. Great serving staff. Highly recommended.
G. H.
Love this place. Great atmosphere and decor. Food and drinks are amazing if a bit pricey. One of our go-to hangouts in Edinburgh.
J. H.
Contini was a little gem of a find. Really imaginative, creative food served by very efficient and helpful staff in a warm and inviting environment. Would certainly go again.
E. d. P.
Food and service were good but the place is extremely noisy. At times it felt like we were eating in a busy train station.
A. B.
Splendid brunch ... excellent service ... elegant, spacious surroundings
L. S.
Beautiful setting. We had the 2 course Sunday special. It was quite expensive and the choices were limited but was beautiful. The Edinburgh experience!
N. C.
Great place for business meetings in town. Great tea, coffee or hot chocolate and old fashioned friendly service. Hard to beat in central Edinburgh.
Y. L.
Enjoy a lovely lunch in the sun. Pasta was delicious, would recommend
E. T.
Wonderful food and service. Had a great evening.
Y. K.
I have visited the Restaurant many times over the years I did not have a meal tonight but enjoyed a coffee with a pastry followed by an aperol Spritz an excellent choice after a busy day in a fantastic setting and all for £9.00
C. M.
Fuss free experience considering all the extra processes restaurants now have to use. A place that knows what works and they do it brilliantly.
J. d. H.
Interior is cool with original high ceilings and features. Overlit and quality of food is good not great. Service was excellent though!
e. m.
Great staff fancy place such a lovely meal I have I definitely recommend this place if you wanted something delicious and have a fancy dinner. ❤️
K. S.
Easily the BEST bacon roll in Edinburgh by far! o used to come here every friday for the digital peeps meet up, but have been too busy to do so recently. I associate this place with business and early mornings so have never been in for evening dinner. I would maybe feel odd if someone suggested it? But who knows, suggest away! The coffee is so powerful you don't need many to speed talk your way through a meeting. It has a lovely interior, and the chatter noise is fab, so is the italian lessons over the speakers when you are in the powder room. Special place x
C. F.
Superb service and lovely food. Children's portions are very generous and will definitely satisfy the hungriest of appetites.
D. 8.
Perfect place for Italian style food, sustainable, independent business support. Nice staff and owners.
G. M.
Was here on Saturday and sadly it wasn't nearly as good as it used to be... Used to love the frozen daiquiris in here but sadly on Saturday they were not what they used to be and after asking the drink to be modified we left after one drink
M. M.
Lovely restaurant, we only had a drink , wish we had, had enough time to eat there as well, as the food looked amazing
S. S.
The acoustics in this restaurant are terrible, which leads to a very high noise level. The food was ok.
The restaurant needs some acoustic-traps to reduce the noise levels!
M. M.
I frequently have dreams about the Contadino - pasta with spicy Italian sausage, porcini and fresh cream. The desserts are fantastic, with the chocolate cake being a winner. I love this place!!
a. m.
Best coffee in Edinburgh...bar none! The service is great and if you love authentic, top quality Italian food..Contini is a must.
R. M. M.
Coffee still great, but the staff were surly and unwelcoming despite Carina and Victor being there. Still a comfortable and effective place to meet for coffee.
I. M.
Excellent breakfast. OJ freshly squeezed. Coffee perfect. Eggs & bacon delicious. Chef's own marmalade. A treat.
G. H.
Nice place and good service, but on this occasion a couple of the menus choices were unavailable. Rather disappointing for a Tuesday evening.
A. K.
Really like the new layout. Much more user friendly. Coffee excellent. Haven't tried food yet
m. b.
Amazing food, can cope with gluten free needs
I. M.
Top quality produce, fantastic flavours and extra efforts made to minimise any risk of covid transmission.
S. M.
Great venue, delicious food and very friendly and attentive staff. Can't fault them - very enjoyable evening.
T. M.
Great food but, even better, warm and welcoming hosts even amid covid, masks, etc
S. S.
Great food, simple but really well done. A touch of class about this place that lifts it above other city centre Italian restaurants
M. B.
Warm reception, good quality of food. And of course they did maintain the protocol during this pandemic situation.
T. C.

I love Centotre.
I've been coming since day one, am friends with owners Carina & Victor, love the staff, and the cappucino is just one of many, many things that are perfect here.
Am I a fan? Yes? Do I highly recomend it to my freinds? Always.
U. Y.

Surprising authentic slice of Italy in Edinburgh set in a beautiful building. Also worth reading up on the history of the Contini family deeped in scot-italian history while you enjoy your bruschetta.
P. P.
A rather pretentious place. Food is tasty but a tad expensive and portions scarce. First time I come out hungry from an italian restaurant.
