This place is so much more than you’d expect when judging it from the street or by any of it’s neighbors. What a gem! We went on a Monday and arrived at 6:30pm luckily. By 7pm the place was absolutely full and vibrant. The staff are excellent, friendly and really know their business. There is a short wine list that focuses on Italy and their prices are very fair. Our Chianti Riserva was tasty. All of their meals are well prepared and full of flavor - from the eggplant, to the meatballs to rigatoni with sausage and also the seafood linguini. The buffalo mozzarella appetizer was so fresh and delicious. And the house salads is enough for two. The focaccias are large as well and have a pizza dough consistency instead of a bread-like focaccia taste. Nonetheless they are enough for two or more and really good. All menu prices are so reasonable and portions are big so be prepared to eat. Desserts are delicious, particularly tiramisu panna cotta or any specials - tonight it was a rum soaked sponge with cherry sauce. Overall we were so pleased with a last-minute decision to eat at La Piazza. I read a few reviews before reserving a table here and can’t figure out how some of the negative reviews were generated other than they were two or more years ago. The only recent (mid-2022) negative reviews was not helpful. While the booking required me to wait for an email confirmation of a reservation, I received it within the hour.

For our first night in Edinburgh we choose to eat at La Piazza and it has been a wonderful experience. The restaurant was cosy and the waiters that looked after us were friendly and helpful. We had a bottle of Nero d’Avola, a couple of starters to share and two pasta dishes which we loved (the paccheri pistacchio e gamberi and the orecchiette con salsiccia). The desserts were amazing as well and all this for a more than fair price. Would definitely recommend.

A big thumbs up to the la Piazza crew! They were swamped tonight- took in our last minute table of two. Had to move us around a bit to accommodate a few reservations but service was top notch and server so charismatic! The “signature dish” was mouth watering. Drinks on point! Highly recommend!

Great place in Edinburgh! Been here the first night and I can say is real Italian food! From the most common to the most particular plates and especially good quality food. I would definitely raccomend this place if you want to try real Italian food, also really affordable and perfect portions. Had starter, pasta and pizza + dessert. My partner and I choose to dine here for our Valentines Day dinner to enjoy some delicious Italian food and it did not disappoint. It was such a lovely evening. Resturant is warm, cozy and has a very authentic Italian vibe, totally forgot I was actually in Edinburgh! Restuarant was busy but all staff members were still very attentive and friendly. Food and drinks arrived promptly. Food is delicious and it is clear there is heart and soul put into the dishes. Would definitely recommend.

Our favourite Italian restaurant for 25 years - but something has changed. Much reduced menu and something lacking in food. New owner? New chefs? Don't know, but a great shame. Specifically, the lasagne was quite tasteless and the carbonara VERY dry, Neither of us could finish the plates.

We had a lovely evening here at La Piazza. The service is outstanding, the guys doing an amazing job. Wine glass never empty, they are checking on every dish that has been served if you liked it. And all of them were nice and friendly, not only one of them. The food was also great. They have a huge selection on the menu. I had the mozzarella spinach balls and the pumpkin ravioli, my boyfriend the house pizza. Both very good and fresh, nice quality. I would recommend this place and come again.

So what can we say.... having travelled through the Italy, sampling the delicious local cuisine, we can confidently state from experience that La Piazza brings authentic Italian food to the heart of Edinburgh. Incredible starters, flavoursome pizza, perfectly cooked pasta with mouth watering sauces. Be careful as it's so tasty you will over order as the meals are that good! Highly recommended this place! Also, the staff are fantastic, even though the place was stacked, they were unflustered and looked after all their clients as if it was second nature. Hats off to everyone at La Piazza..... Well done!

Outstanding!! The food here is fantastic: simply delicious pizza and pasta. The service was also great. There was an error in the kitchen which meant our starters never turned up, but the staff apologised profusely and went out of their way to make it up to us (inc. giving the starters to us on the house anyway). Our waiter was Manuel who was excellent, spent time talking to us and giving us a whole range of recommendations for our stay in Edinburgh. Overall, a great Saturday evening!

What can I say? A real Italian experience, from the exquisite decoration of the restaurant to, of course, food. Every single dish on the menu is an authentic Italian food and, for what I could see and try, it's worth every penny! Found this gem of a place by chance and very pleased I did. It is on Shandwick place between Princes Street and Haymarket. From the moment I entered staff were so welcoming and friendly ( which made a change from other places in Edinburgh) it was reasonably busy on a week night but a table was available without booking in advance. Food and drink was reasonably priced at around £8 for starter €12-£16 for a main and £5 for desert ( forest fruit cheesecake was lovely) wine was around £5 a glass All food was fantastic and staff so friendly it made for a great evening. Highly recommended if you are visiting Edinburgh

Hard to judge too much after one visit. My wife had smoked salmon risotto which she enjoyed. I had a vegetable risotto which was very cold in some places and very hot in others. My daughter had a gluten free pizza which was ok. It's a nice place and the staff were good.

Our waiter was Giuseppe, a very entertaining and enjoyable man who accommodated an interesting request for us without complaint. We ate the lasagna, and had two glasses of wine. Totally worth checking out. Price was awesome, but the food was the highlight of our experience. After working in Napa, CA under Michael Chiarello at Bottega, I can honestly say the meal was excellent and the flavor complex, while simple, was very elegant. Our compliments to the chef.

Amazingly, we may think... Edinburgh is not blessed with really good Italian restaurants. But here's the authentic exception - a truly fantastic family restaurant that you can safely make your family restaurant of choice. And handily placed in the West End, albeit in the rather unprepossessing Shandwick Place/West Maitland St. area - but a good location for trams and buses, if you don't fancy a stroll before dinner, or after. The welcome is genuinely warm and the staff are friendly and efficient, with a word for everyone, even under pressure from the Festival crowds. La Piazza is rightly busy and popular, offering a great range of Italian cuisine, including hot and cold starters, both fresh and dried pasta dishes, fish choices, risottos, super pizzas my aunt swears by, as well as the standard veal, steak and chicken fare... all brilliantly done. The wine list is good too, well chosen and very reasonably priced - no gouging over-pricing here. We love it... you should find lots here to satisfy and enjoy.

Had lovely dinner here for my son's birthday. I had asked in advance if i could bring a birthday cake along. The waiting staff all came out with the cake and sang happy birthday. Excellent Italian restaurant owned and run by native Italians living in Edinburgh. Very good menu with a wide range of dishes. The pasta choices are good and they offer the option of adding to the dish such as Pasta Arrabiata plus sausages. They have a good range of wines. Some of the prices are a little higher than you might expect but it is a city centre restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. Situated just one hundred yards from the west end of Princes Street.

One of the best Italian restaurants I’ve been to in Edinburgh. Situated at the West End it’s not far from Princes Street and so is ideal place for grabbing a meal if you’re in the City Centre. Standard Italian fare on offer but all very tasty and reasonably priced. Service is fantastic as usual with Italian restaurants. The atmosphere in this place is great and that’s probably what I think makes it stand out from a lot of similar Italians in the area. If you like Italian food you definitely will like this place.

Had dinner here for a friend's retirement do! It was a large group of ladies and the staff attended to our every whim. Admittedly my calamari starter was nice but a little chewy and not that crispy. My main course of crab ravioli was incredible. Well filled ravioli with small juicy prawns and a wonderful pasta sauce! Great red house, wine, good good, good service and good company. What else can you ask for?

The food fell short, if i am going to order a pizza at an Italian restaurant named La Piazza i expect a good pizza! The pizza i got was burnt on the rim to the extent that 4 pieces crust was not eatable. The pizza fell apart most of the time due to the lack of cheese. Other than that the quality of the ingredients was good and it was filling, and for the price you can hardly expect anything more. A good place to go to none the less if you want pasta. (The table across from me had pasta and i regretted my order of a pizza almost immediately)

Wow! What a beautiful place to have a nice Italian dinner. We arrived during peak hours without reservations and the staff accommodated our family of seven. I had a pasta dish with sausage, which was fantastic! My brother-in-law, who is pure Italian, had pasta and his only complaint was that it wasn't cooked al dente. My mother had a different pasta dish and she commented it was absolutely fantastic. The wine selection is your typical 300% markup. I definitely recommend this place for visitors and locals alike.

The location is very elegant, nice and clean. The welcoming, fast, courteous and smiling staff. The manager, very kind, even made us try some dishes that made me jump into the past (the meatballs with sauce were like those of our mothers when they were little) x nn talk about those with spinach. Being 8 people we tasted different dishes from eggplant to parmesan to pizza, from chicken with mushrooms and gorgonzola to steak. All delicacies that left us fully satisfied but what left me stunned was the pasta and beans. A real delicacy. A cream. I recommend it to all those who want to eat truly Italian. For me it is not the classic Italian restaurant abroad but these can really compete with any other Italian restaurant among those present in Italy itself. My compliments to all the staff in particular to Peppe, the owner. If I were to return to these parts I would definitely return. I recommend it without ifs and buts. Go there. Tutte prelibatezze che ci hanno lasciato pienamente soddisfatti ma ciò che i ha lasciati di stucco è stata la pasta e fagioli. Una vera squisitezza. Una crema. Lo consiglio a tutti coloro ke vogliono mangiare veramente italiano. Per me nn è il classico ristorante italiano all'estero ma questi possono competere veramente con qualsiasi altro ristorante italiano tra quelli presenti in Italia stessa.
