We went there for my birthday :)! They put a card ready on the table when we arrived. It was very sweet. We had 5-course tasting menu with wine pairing. The overall experience was fantastic, and we really enjoyed the dinner. The combination of food was great. We had curd salmon, pork belly, seafood fregola, venison and profiterole to finish the night. Salmon was tasty and matched with the sourness of beetroots very well. The paired wine balance your palate perfectly. Pork belly was a surprise. It was glazed with honey and Nduja sausage. You felt the spiciness when you put it into your mouth, while the sweetness balanced out immediately, making you want to have another bite right after. The paired wine was great, enhancing the spiciness while you eat the pork. Seafood fregola was stunning. This is my first time having fregola. MONO made it so Al dente. The flavour was so rich. You felt as if you were in the ocean when enjoying this fregola. Pesto sauce on the top did not outweigh but just neutralised the palate. Paired wine was fruity, matching the whole dish well. Venison was average as it was slightly overcooked. And, the combination does not add new flavour to this dish while each of them was still delicious. The paired wine itself was great, tasted plum with a touch of smokiness, but again I do not think it matches the dish. The desert is chocolate profiterole. The pastry was okay. Cream in the middle was not sweet but with a kick of cocoa. At the bottom it was filled with chocolate ganache. It was served with hazelnuts and some sweet nut flakes. The whole combination was good, while was not outstanding. The paired desert wine was quite great, sweet and with a touch of acidity. In general, I would recommend MONO to anyone who wants to have great dinning experience. The restaurant staffs were really helpful, explaining every dish and wine professionally. This is the firs time I eat with wine pairing. I think it was a right choice as they explain the production of the and why they choose this wine to match the dish. The ambient was cosy and relaxing as well.

Some of the most skilled cooking we have ever experienced. Exquisite food and superb attentive service. Maybe to improve you could dim the lights to create a more relaxed atmosphere, spread out the customers a touch and play some music in the background and it would have been exactly perfect!

We visited Mono as a group of three - two adults and one 8-year old (who enjoyed it greatly). The experience was fantastic throughout from attention to dietary restrictions (no meat for one of us) and all the way to the excellent wine and food. We could observe the chefs working on the plating from our seat and the atmosphere in the kitchen was fun and positive. We had 5 course tasting menu and it was just the right amount. The dessert was really lightweight and beautifully made. Every dish was served with an extensive explanation. The home made bread and grissini were exceptional. It is an expensive restaurant, but it's worth it for the experience, the atmosphere, and the food.

The pictures on here blinded us. This was the one restaurant I was sorely disappointed with and regretted. Walked downstairs and 2 employees in the kitchen: saw one young lad slowly removing food from what looked like a microwave and accompanied by an older woman. It definitely did not look like a professional busy kitchen creating fresh food. Our dishes: the pasta was decent, the aubergine parmigiana was awful and looked like it was reheated several times, and the risotto looked better than it tasted. For what we were served, I felt it was overpriced and mediocre. On the bright side, the restaurant itself has nice, clean, spacious interiors and a very clean restroom!

When reading reviews for restaurants it can be quite hard to discerne what is truly worth visiting because you don't know the reviewers tastes, preference, budget or experience. With Mono you can discount all of the worry and just book a table at your earliest convinience. Our visit to Mono from start to finish was an absolute delight. We had the Dinner tasting menu with wine pairings. Firstly, the food was amazing. Every bite well balanced and seasoned to perfection and the staff incredibly knowledgable about each dish. The wine pairing was one of the best we have encountered - each wine paired perfectly with the dish presented and the Sommelier had precise and accurate tasting notes without being protenteous or robotic. Everyone involved at Mono is extremely personable, charming and invested in the diners experience. Making sure we were satisfied and comfortable at all times. Wish we lived in Edinburgh for regular visits but will be our #1 recommendation to everyone!

Exceeded our high expectations. The staff were friendly and well informed and went out of their way to accommodate dietary requirements. The food was some of the best I've tasted and were perfectly complemented by the wine list.

Good food but disappointing service overall We came for a special occasion last week. On arrival, the service was friendly, and the breads, pork belly starters and the wines were excellent. The main course specials were nice, although the fish needed more sauce as the dish became quite dry very quickly. One of the main sides was forgotten, but that wasn't a big issue at all and we weren't charged for it on the bill. However at this point our table was forgotten about. We had asked to order more drinks when the main arrived, and then asked again when our finished mains were collected, but no one came to collect our order. We also asked about desserts, but despite being given dessert menus again no one came to collect our order After 20 minutes without any drinks or food, we gave up and got the bill. It's disappointing writing this review as we've come here in previous years and had a great time, but we left feeling really deflated with how the meal ended

Had the tasting menu. We don't eat meat so the vegetarian menu with any seafood dishes from the main tasting menu. The Two seafood dishes were lovely but the vegetarian dishes were a bit bland and disappointing. For the money we paid I would expect the depth of flavour of the dishes to be a lot better. The main was breaded mushroom with deep fried mushroom on a disc of sweet potato. Very disappointing. The restaurant was very nice and the staff were great but for the money the food was a let down

Fine restaurant. Came here for a family lunch. Very good venison ragu pasta and outstanding risotto with mushrooms. Good choice of wine both bottles and by a glass. Recommended!

Food was ok, service was slow, prices are reasonable. We were extremely excited to come to Mono as we had heard terrific things, but overall were very underwhelmed. Some of the dishes were incredible, while others fell very flat / didn't hold a ton of flavor. The service was extremely slow, typically taking 15m+ between each course, leading us to have a 3hr+ dinner when there were no more than 7 other tables filled at the restaurant. Overall if they want to push for a star, they have quite a ways to go and would recommend starting with their service. Personally wouldn't return at this time.

We were recommended by the hotel to make a reservation here. Scottish with italian air. I must say it wasn’t bad, but the menu was a little bit short and the dishes were small. Do not share rations. But second dishes are better. Risotto is ok and makes you feel full.

Such an amazing evening we had! We went there yesterday (Thursday evening) for dinner, and it was worth every penny we spent. Service was excellent. Had been greeted with glass of prosecco and bread on the house. Waiters and bartenders very knowledgeable and with good manners. Both of us had starters, mains and dessert. Been suggested we can have drink paired with dessert and it was great choice. After paying for the bill waiter brought Limoncello (they make it, it's very good). As it's newly opened in Edinburgh I definitely recommend to everyone who thinks about going there. It's quiet and seems empty but it's just matter of time when it will be most busy place in Edinburgh!

Attended the monthly wine club with a group of friends - incredible! Sandro was an excellent host, delivering a knowledgeable yet informal experience catering to all wine lovers from the novice to the connoisseur. A chance to taste some wines I wouldn't think to try and now have a few new favourites to look out for! A canape accompanied each wine which had been thoughtfully paired to enhance the flavours of the wine - the Mono team cannot be faulted in their passion for food and drink. Will definitely be back, Sandro also let us know they can host private wine tasting and menu pairings - would recommend for a special occasion and hoping to book for a festive gettogether.

One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. So it was a given that I HAD to write this review so that everyone knows how great the food and service is. (Yes, it's a tad bit long but they deserve all the credit and more)🇮🇹✨ The people who waited on us were the most kindest of humans. I was done with my exams and this was a farewell dinner party so to be honest, everything started on a bit stressed out note. But they realized this and gave us time...A LOT OF TIME to figure out what we wanted to order, as we googled the items mentioned in the menu. Also, they explained every single item on the platter and even how it was made..(P.S. loved the jam made out of onions). To be fair, I was a bit too nervous as I didn't know in which order to eat what especially in their 'Mixed Board'. So they suggested us a few ways to enjoy the combinations of cheese, etc. but more than that they emphasized that we could just be winging it and to be honest, it was a relief for me 'cos well who doesn't love random experimentation of combination of foods when everything is so darn flavoursome !✨ Also, the pasta was delicious (do not get fooled by how tiny it looks. It was very rich and fulfilling) and the Tiramisu was just so damn refreshing, light and fluffy❤️...it was just perfect. But the best of all, we saw the customers leave but even as we were just halfway through the dinner, there was no pressure...NONE! AT ALL! They gave us our dessert and well...I wouldn't recommend what we did (to be kind to them)...but we sort of ended up spending an hour more after their closing time. And you know what?...they saw us enjoying the dinner so much that they offered to bring tea for us...AFTER THEIR CLOSING TIME!.. Honestly, I cannot put into words how happy and at ease we were after the meal and it was definitely one of the most fulfilling dining experiences that I have had in a while. If you are in Edinburgh and want to try out great Italian food with the most chilled vibe, this is the place to be! Thank you, Mono❤️

The highlight of our dining experience in Edinburgh. Excellent food, excellent service and excellent value. We (two of us) had the tasting menu: bread basket; plaice tempura; parmigiano-reggiano ravioli; catch of the day - halibut in cacciatora sauce; beef rib main with beetroot; and strawberry dessert, and not a single dish disappointed. The staff were also lovely. Thoroughly impressed and would highly recommend.

1st night of our Scotland holiday saw us enjoying a meal at Mono. Bistro on ground floor but we were in the restaurant downstairs. 5 course tasting menu was delicious as was our rosé Bardolino wine - often have the red but didn't know they did rosé 🤨 favourite was the pasta course which was so tasty. The cheese selection was very good, and the Panna Cotta for dessert was excellent. Prices were reasonable too, 90 quid for cocktails, starters, mains and dessert for 2. I would come again and try something else.

This restaurant is destined for greatness. The food is out of this world. Really talented head chef (also the owner). You can taste his passion for cooking in every dish. We had the 8 course tasting menu with paired wines. You have to be hungry for this one. Although the portion sizes are very well balanced they do mount up leaving you feeling very full and thoroughly satisfied by the end. Maybe not the option if your planning a night of dancing after it, but if your out to try some outstandingly good food then you'll be hard pushed to get any better. The staff were brilliant, very polite and knowledgable and couldn't do more for you. The wine pairings were spot on also. Michelin star will be on it's way very soon. This is definitely one to watch. Cant wait to go back!

Incredible meal here on Friday night - the tasting menu with wine pairing was stunning. We lucked out with the chef’s table, but the whole restaurant is lovely. The staff were great - friendly, informative but not overbearing. The food was absolutely delicious - very carefully thought out, all perfectly prepared, and generous portions for a tasting menu. There are also lots of great a la carte options to choose too, so I’ll be back again soon. My new favourite Edinburgh restaurant, so please try it!

Well , I went with high hopes as this had been recommended by a friend. It is not cheap but it far exceeded expectations. This is clever modern Italian food put together with great thought that delivers consistently. Contrasting tastes- textures and even temperatures . The main dining room is light and perhaps a little too formal but this is maybe because not enough people have heard how good it really is.

Mono is a truly outstanding restaurant, I've had both lunch/dinner here and every visit has totally blown my mind. I come past this place most days and even during the festival it's dead. Why is that as it seems to be such a nice place? I suggest they remove the inhibiting wooden panels from the windows to make it look more inviting as they just don't work. .............The owner explained to me most of their food is served downstairs, my mistake! Thanks for getting back to me, would love to come and try it sometime. The place is in a great location and looks great.

I have now been to this place at least six times and still stand by my original review, see below. This place deserves a Michelin Star! Everytime I've been both the food and wine have been brilliant. Staff are first class too, both friendly and knowledgable. Returned for my second visit yesterday and was just as impressed as the first time. I opted for the 6 course tasting lunch plus matched wines. Both the food and the wines were excellent. In my opinion this restaurant is worthy of a Michelin star. The staff are friendly without being intrusive and very knowledgeable on the food and wine theyre serving. I'm already planning my next visit.

Visited this restaurant with my friends in a middle of the week, as a nice treat for us and also to explore this new place that just arrived to the heart of Old Town. We decided to try the tasting menu (it's a bit pricey, but if you are not sure what would you like to have and you are ready to explore then that's the right choice!). I have to say, all 7 dishes were mind blowing! Everything we got was tasty, and some dishes were real experience for us. Mine most surprising dish from that menu, was a cheese platter. Because it wasn't just ordinary cheese platter!! It was a cheese dessert! I never thought cheese ice creams can be so tasty! Together with our meal we had a wine tasting (we really decided to treat ourselves). And wines that were chosen by sommelier for each dish were just perfect! It was a real trip trough Italian wine regions, from south to the north, from east to the west. Truly loved every glass!! Another great experience we had, was the fact that with an arrival of each dish, the head chef will come over to our table to tell us about the dish but also to chat, and answer our questions. Forgot to mention we were seated at the chef's table, just next to the kitchen. Kitchen is open, so you can watch how every dish is prepared and decorated. Another great experience!!! Overall have to say it was a great evening, and restaurant has a great potential! With tasty food & wine and personalised service you will leave the restaurant with full stomach and amazing memories! It's a real experience and I will definitely would recommend this place to anyone who is into modern Italian kitchen (it means no pasta or pizza on menu).

We went there by coincidence during our weekend trip to Edinburgh and we were absolutely surprised! Im not sure where to begin! My husband and I recently enjoyed an incredible meal at Mono for our anniversary this week. The food was beautifully prepared and presented. After a lovely selection of Italian breads (which I believe are made in house) and a lovely amuse niche we enjoyed the veal and the parmesan pasta followed by beef and gorgonzola risotto. We both managed to find room for desert as we wanted to try more of the kitchen's delights. The olive sorbet served with the lovely EVOO cake is a must try dish! The somalier also suggested some great wine pairings for each course including a surprising Pinot Noir. The home made limoncello was the perfect end to our meal. Aside from the food and drink on offer, the decor and surroundings of the restaurant are lovely. We were lucky enough to be say next to the open kitchen and could watch the master chefs at work. I felt like the floor staff couldn't do enough to make the evening special for us and we are both delighted we chose Mono to celebrate our special occasion. I cant thank the team enough!
