A lovely little restaurant with a nice atmosphere. The staff were all really friendly and the food was gorgeous, and not bad prices either. Highly recommend the lasagna & tiramisu. We sat inside but it is possible to sit outside which would be nice if the sun is shining

This place is a little gem. We have just finished eating there on a trip to Edinburgh. Warm friendly atmosphere the staff were lovely. The Fettuccine ala scoglio was beautiful loads of mussels and cockles in their shells prawn calamari and topped by a Langoustine. Superb. Followed by beautiful Panacotta and berries. Next time we are back this will be the first place we eat out

Decent enough place for a bite to eat. Friendly staff. My pizza topping of pulled beef was quite sparse as was the tuna on my wife's pizza, they could definately have been more generous on the toppings. The kids enjoyed what they had. It was a tad overpriced at £82 for a family of 4, the alcohol was 1.5pints of lager and a glass of red...no pudding....so a bit steep. The table next to us had a complaint about summat and didn't have to pay and another couple moaned about waiting 40 mins for their main. Like I said we had a decent enough meal but I wouldn't return.

Stopped for a quick late meal after work. Much better than I expected from the (relatively) low score. The menu is standard family run Italian (which was just what I wanted) quality was very good... Calamari nice and soft, pizza was great. Very good prices. You'll do much much worse in a tourist location like this

The whole experience of our lunch at this restaurant was exceptional. The setting was lovely, the staff were both courteous and knowledgeable and the food was delicious and well presented. For anyone that may be concerned about portion size, I can tell you they were huge. For 2 starters, 2 mains and 4 drinks we paid £50.00 There was nothing to fault the entire experience and we will certainly go again te next time we are in Edinburgh.

me and my boyfriend went to this restaurant yesterday and we’re not disappointed. i ordered the pizza salami and my boyfriend ordered the pizza toro loco and they were both amazing (my boyfriend had to bring some of his home as he couldn’t eat it all). the only reason i could not give this place five stars is i also ordered a side of potato wedges and the larger of the wedges were not cooked well enough, but everything else was amazing!

Enjoyed the outside seating on a glorious sunny day (a little windy). The tables and seating were very stable. I shared a Parma ham pizza, fries ,and salad with a work colleague. The food was delicious and their Italian beer on draft was also pretty tasty. Would recommend.

It was my first experience to try real italian Food. It tasted really amazing and I couldn't stop eating although I was full. I entered the place cause of the smell outside. It really grabbed me in there. The only thing is you need a reservation to enter or you'll just wait for someone to leave. Staff are friendly and we tried Pizza Oliviero & Spaghetti Carbonera and they both tasted so good 😋😋😋😋 Sure I'd love to try italian food again and again. And maybe I'll have to visit italy just to eat 😅

I'm probably not the best person to give a review on Italian food, only go for the wife's benefit, anything more than 8 pound for a bowl of pasta is a bit much even during the great pasta shortage of 2020.. We never take a long time in restaurants always thinking someone else might be wanting a meal.. But when the plates are being removed from the table when one person is still eating is just a bit rude. Food was OK

Not that impressed. Once we ordered our assigned waiter studiously ignored us while he flirted with younger customers. My rose was served straight off the shelf, not sure if it is usually slightly chilled: it is where I come from. My husband's pizza wasn't sliced at all, and when we finally asked for the dessert menu from yet another waitress, she didn't get the hint that we needed our plates cleared, so they stayed on the table. We didn't order dessert in the end. Food flavour was very average.

Really really wanted to like this wee restaurant but service was Ok not great, a bit slow. Garlic bread was nice but the main meals were bland and came out cold (Tagliatelle Ragu) We got a discount on our meal because of this, that I wasn't expecting but still not worth what we paid. Waiter didn't look at us again after we said food was cold. Wouldn't go back. Will definitely be trying the Little Italy restaurant just a couple of doors down instead next time!

Had a lovely meal, the staff where lovely and very accommodating, as I’m gluten and lactose intolerant or can be difficult when eating out, but I need not worry as they where really helpful even going out to get me some gluten free beer. Simple, friendly, clean and tasty. Its definitely no the top of the Italian cousins, but the menu is nice and small enough to be fresh. The portions are generous and the food is priced very reasonably for this part of Edinburgh. Their wine list has a interesting wines and almost all of them is also served by glass, but then it wasn't surprise that one of the wines we ordered was long gone. All in all good choice if you around.

Good Italian fare. Aperol spritz with a sharing starter plate an interesting choice. Large portions. Busy but it is on The Grassmarket. On a recent trip to Edinburgh we stopped here for a meal last minute whilst strolling around the city. My husband raved about the chicken dish he had (which we have forgotten the name of!) Our servers were very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu and suggesting wine.

Food is pretty decent and good price considering its location. Bad thing is the service. For some reason they had a table positioned in front of their till / bar. The host was trying to explain something to the person behind the bar and I was waiting to get passed. Another waiter asked him to let me past but the host that was in the way just said "I'm not moving". Not a very good host! He was also very obnoxious the whole time my table was there shouting and paying special attention with the table behind us. It was like being down at your local pub at the weekend and not at a restaurant.

This is a nice welcoming restaurant with a menu of all the old Italian favourites. Situated in the Grassmarket its one among several quality restaurants in the area and often very busy. I would describe it as mid-priced but still good value. The house Red was safe and sound and the kalamari starter was to die for. Great meal!

They don't cut the slices to keep it authentic. The food most definitely is authentic. Friendly staff. Warm and delicious atmosphere. Only two choices of pizza for vegetarians, but they'll make anything your want. On the pricey side but worth the taste.

We came to this restaraunt during the height of the Festival. The place was packed with lots of customers. We came with our 2 kids, 12 and 8. We arrived around 6:30pm during the busiest period. The staff took our order, but we didn’t actually get any of our food until after 8pm. All of the staff were so apologetic. All the tables beside us were served starters, mains and desert during our wait. The staff could not have been more apologetic, there had been a problem with the printer in the kitchen. We eventually got our food, and it was as good as we have been served all 4 times we have been here this year (2018) I would still recommend this Italian, it is the best Italian in Edinburgh. The food is worth the wait. We were surrounded by Italians eating meals, which is a compliment to the restaraunt. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Lovely Place, went as part of a big party for my birthday. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food, I ordered the lasagna unfortunately it was burnt, ruining my enjoyment. On top of this the mince seemed to have clumped together in a ball at the side of the lasagna instead of being dispersed inside the layers. The cola seemed to be watered down and some what flavourless. To cheer myself up I ordered the chocolate creme brulee, they originally thought they'd run out but the waitress found one in the back. The chocolate custard is a really rich tart filling and honestly incredible, it was so rich I couldn't finish the entire dish but the filling was really good. Unfortunately they burnt the sugar ontop, and you've had alot of creme brulee then you will know that burnt sugar completely ruins it and almost makes the dish taste toxic. I gave it 3 stars as I was the only one in the group that had issues with the meal, but it's just ashame that it was my birthday and I was the one that received the burnt food. Staff seem friendly and were fairly attentive, bathroom is clean and the atmosphere is nice.

The food is the best in the area. This was a real restaurant in an area filled with bars that serve poor quality fare for the tourists. My only complaint was that I overheard them commenting on my accent as they spoke in Italian thinking I did not understand what was being said. I am a large man that looks like a redneck and I speak italian. I politely pulled them over and made sure they were aware I had indeed understood what they said. Not polite!

I wouldn't have it again. My wife's carbonara was ok but she said it wasn't anything special. Not overly expensive but given the choice of other restaurants in Edinburgh we wouldn't return.

Last May 2019 my friend and I spent few days in Edinburgh. Our hotel was near the Grassmarket. When we came back to the hotel we stopped at O'Oliviero for dinner and sipped a Moretti. We went 3 times because the food is excellent as well as the service. The Moretti was a very good beer. They had it cold as we like in the Caribbean. In those days we tried pollo al Fungi, pollo agil asparagus, spaghetti carbonara and pizza Boscaiola. For desserts: classic Tiramisu and panacotta. Every thing was tasty and delicious. The service was excellent and the staff immediately responded to our needs in a friendly manner. Saludos desde Puerto Rico!
