Tasty pasta with prawns, just like in other chain places. Wine options are nice, service is great. However I have missed the option to order pasta in the queue and observe how it is cooked 🍜 Desserts choice could also be improved.

Pros: good location just off princes Road. Nice staff, clean restaurant. Tasty food (recommend the cognac pasta with added chopped garlic, that's the most unique flavour iv tried out of all the Italian restaurants). Price was good for the portion size. Better portions than most places actually. Cons: the place was understaffed so when we entred no one came to us to take our seats. When a chef came up to us he said its so bad that its better to come after 4pm. Which was fine as we could go gift shopping in the meantime. Overall 7/10. Great food, great service but was missing the buzz of a full house

Vapiona is a pretty great restaurant. You get to customise your pasta and it’s all freshly prepared. There are loads of options but vegetarian and non vegetarian. It’s also quite cheap. There is a lot of seating space and you can also see the chefs prepare your food. They also have loads of drinks on the menu and also mocktails. The service is super quick.

We had dinner at that place. The concept is original: you have to order via a QR Code and you pay directly. After, a waitress will bring you your food. I had a pizza and it was good (of course not the best pizza ever but it was OK).

Vapianos food is always so tasty and fresh. Never had a bad experience or meal. One of my favourite Italian chains. I definitely prefer the pasta over pizza but the pizzas are also great. They have a new system of ordering to your table, which is alot easier but i kind of miss going up and ordering and the kitchen! But also nice not queuing and standing around. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Menu is definitely smaller since i last visited but still got lots of good options.

Good food marred by technology mess up. This place forces guests to order and pay on your phone. However, after taking my money from my debit card, the staff says my order did not come through. Eventually we had to order and pay again on the Manager's device. It meant that we waited longer for our orders to arrive and I ended up to paying twice for one order. My money was refunded only 4 days after the meal and the staff did not extend us any courtesies for the trouble it caused, so no marks in managing damage repair.

Great pastas. We had the cognac and the creme de funghi. The taste of both was great. For dessert we had the 'baci' which tastes like a ferrero. Prices were brilliant as well as portions!! If you are a true pasta lover then this one is defo one to experience. The only down side is that on Google it said they close at 2200 on NYDay, however they closed the pizza section at 2000 which meant that we couldn't have starters, salads, rissoto, lasagna or pizzas. Just pasta! But tbh that's what we went for. If you are planning to dine in then definitely give them a call to check timings, space and availability of dishes.

As far as the location is concerned this restaurant is very close to the town centre (if not in it!) so it’s accessible and clean. The staff is friendly. As far as food is concerned, we ordered a margarita which was absolutely delicious! The crust and the freshness of the pizza was just mouthwatering. We also ordered Alfredo which unfortunately didn’t quite meet its mark mostly because it was extremely salty. I had to stop eating it after a few bites. Also I think it was microwaved because half of my pasta was cold while the other side was hot. The restaurant has a good menu though. Lots of choices but because of my family operating on limited menu options we couldn’t try anything else. It is good value for money especially if you take Bright city tour bus, they offer a discount for this restaurant which helped a bit. I would maybe go there again to try their pizza the next time I visit Edinburgh.

The food was lovely but the current system of ordering from your table is an absolute nightmare. The app wasn't working and they don't have enough staff to do table service properly. We didn't have to wait to long for food but the table next to us did. Will be much better when you can go upto the kitchen and order directly again.

They just reopened and we wanted to get a quick lunch. The staff were really friendly and asked if we were OK. I ordered linguini which was over cooked and got stuck together and was hard to separate and eat. They had a reduced menu so they may not have all the things you normally get. As you pay via the app I left tips at the front desk.

The manager, Michael, could not have been more helpful and went out of his way to make the evening run smoothly even splitting the bill into individual parts for ease of payment. The food was delicious and plentiful and I will DEFINITELY be back.

I have been a giant Vapiano lover since the last 8 years or more. I was so happy to know that there was a Vapiano in Edinburgh but since the last time I visited Vapiano which was 3 years ago in London, it was a little disappointing. The herb plants on the table were barely there. The order now needs to be placed via an app or their website but the app isn't supported for people having an Indian simcard. The place seems to have lost it's charm. I hope they bounce back super soon! Because I will definitely visit this place again when I visit UK.

We arrived mid-afternoon on a Saturday in December without booking and whilst it was busy, they welcomed us with open arms; which was just what we needed as we hadn't come prepared as we often come to Edinburgh at Christmas without any actual plans. It was lunch time and the kids were hungry after a morning of activities. The biggest pain was the app, with no signal and a ball ache to connect to the Wifi it took far longer than it should have, which meant hungrier kids! None the less, once we got past those hurdles the kids were happy, they had their food if pretty good time considering how busy it was; which they thoroughly enjoyed and were adequate portions for the price. Being 2 and 3 they polished them off well, so am not sure it is an ample size for up to 12 YO I think I saw it suggest. The kids food came out first which is always a must for us and a very important factor for good feedback. We all enjoyed our food and the atmosphere was nice. Couldn't fault anything other than they forgot our kids waters, but that isn't really a problem, I went up, asked and got. Not too much effort at all!

I used to eat from it when I was in German. The salad is the same taste other pastas which I've tried before are more tastier than here but its tasty. There are nice seats down stairs, if you got left over food and didn't finish the food they can provide with a plastic container for take away, chefs are nice to talk to and customer service is good.

1st time I have visited vapiano and I absolutely loved it! I have never been to a restaurant like it you get your card when you walk in so anything you order they put on the card at the end your bill will be on it. I ordered some carbanara and you get to see them make it and you let them know what pasta you would like etc and what you would like in your dish. From the outside of the restaurant you would think it is one floor but they also have downstairs too. It is a lovely restaurant and very clean the staff are great! I will be back ☺️

Nice environment, new concept but a little complicated for tourist customers like me. I went to this restaurant quite by accident and nobody was there to welcome me or even to explain me how to make an order. I was lucky enough to meet another kind customer to tell me the steps 1) get an empty card at the cashier 2) give it to the cook 3) wait for the biper sound 4) eat, chill & keep the card 5) give the card back & pay the bill before leaving. The food was ok and the portion is generous, staff is nice but quiet shy to get more contact with customers. Price: reasonable. Not sure if disabled people or even mother with child in stroller can have an easy access though...

Had no expectations when I walked into Vapiano however it had been reccommend to us . The concept is a totally different experience than any other restaurant I have been to in Edinburgh. From ordering your food in different areas to collecting it yourself and your cutlery which I'm sure if it was busy would become a small nightmare . However there were only 3 tables in at the time so it gave us time to have a good look at the menu which was Great. Once we collected the food I was taken a back ...It looked fantastic and it tasted delicious . You could taste every fresh ingredient and the portions were Great . Vapiano was a Great food experience and I would reccommend it . Looking forward to going back .

Dropped in to Vapiano in Edinburgh before a night out and I'll definitely be back. Ordered a plate of pasta and a pint of lager. The pasta is clearly made in house and I got a healthy portion. Very tasty and it arrived quickly. The restaurant itself is in a great location and very clean. Staff were friendly and helped with a recommendation from the menu. Exceeded all my expectations!!

We coundnt download the app to order so a waitress helped us, the pasta is specifically cooked to order and arrived just about the right time. There are many tables with high stools which makes it difficult to sit on if your mobility is not too good. The toilet was a good trek to get to!

Everything was good. Nice food and presentation. Workers are friendly and helpful. The main problem seems to be the prices because it's a little bit expensive so you better don't think on getting a dessert. So it's a nice place but not for going there very often.

I love Vapiano but this location needs some help. When we ordered pasta, the smell of garbage and filth was overwhelming. I assume it was coming from the dish room. Oh my word. Well, there's pizza and mozzarella, anti pasti but then once you leave Sainsbury's and get home, it's good but not the same. Vapiano.... My word, the most delicious salad with mozzarella, a salami pizza to rival all others and the garlic bread was just a bonus and equally delicious. Amazing layout and real easy to navigate. Great service, amazing menu..... I'd like to tell you about desert but I just couldn't fit it in....... Definitely be back again.

I was met at the door by a lovely girl with lovely Scottish accent all in black with dark hair( forgot her name).She explained in detail that you could watch your meal being cooked personally by the Chef , as this was down quite a lot of stairs, she observed that I had a Stick, and could not manage going downstairs.The lift was not working also toilets were on ground floor not good with anyone with a disability.She could not have been more helpful ,so I decided to stay and she said she would bring my meal to me.The pasta with king prawns in a lovely sauce was cooked and tasted lovely,this was accompanied with 2 slices of fresh bread .I had a glass of tap water.I enjoyed my experience and food as I was only in Edinburgh overnight to see a show.On way out I paid for meal & asked Cashier for a card so I could share restaurant with family & friends,she seemed taken aback and told me that they did not have anything like that just look up on the website on my receipt,a wee bit abrupt,for lift toilet & Cashier attitude ,I have taken a star of .The restaurant toilets were spotless I would highly recommend .

The food was tasty! A real pity they don't do gluten free pasta. It was a bit of a pain for some trying to order on their phone, but our server kindly took a manual order. We never saw any signs to say they did not take cash. So watch out for that one. Be aware that your food might come separately and someone could be finished eating before someone else's food arrives. Fairly decent, but I am not in a rush to go back.

Great find for lunch during our city break in Edinburgh. The seating area spreads across three floors and the pizza and Caesar salad we ordered were well seasoned and served promptly. The decor which included Basil and Rosemary plants as table centre pieces were refreshing to see.

Comfy place and clean. Not really expensive for the quality. Recommend pasta. The pasta bellow is tagliatelle pasta with carbonara sauce with chilli. By adding the chilli it is a bit different on the usual taste of carbonara but matching well with the creamy taste of the carbonara

The food is made freshly so there can be a wait at times. My dish was full of garlic and too strong so I couldn't eat it but other guests liked the food. You can edit your dishes to your liking as you order on the app. The only downside to this is the reception is poor and the app was patchy so took us a few attempts to order. There's plenty of tables upstairs and downstairs but not enough staff to cover them.

I had three meals at this restaurant, and sampled three different varieties of pasta, and I liked the taste, the ergonomic set and the minimalistic contact. You scan the qr code from the menu card at your table. Select the item(s), add toppings other paraphernalia, and key in the table number. Your food would be at your table in 10-15 minutes

A decent place, with good food. The gimmick of watching the chef cook your food is neat, and the end result was delicious. The staff were a little distant, but we did turn up at like 4pm, so they were clearly between shifts and prepping for dinner service. Free gummy bears at the entrance though, so well worth checking out.

I really enjoyed my meal, I ordered carbonara and watched the chef cook it while I waited so I knew it was fresh. It was absolutely delicious!!!! You are given a card which is swiped when you order each part of your meal. Great idea if you are on a works do so each person pays for their own drinks and food. It was so good here we returned the next evening. I just wish they had a Vapiano in the Midlands!!!

The staff is great. They are very friendly and helpful. This is a large restaurant with plenty of seating. There is no table service. You are given menus and a card and you place your order with the chefs. You order pizza upstairs and pasta downstairs. Hold your card up to the screen and it puts your order and total onto the card. This is great as you can go to the cashier anytime you are ready to pay. The chef hands you a pager to let you know when the food is ready. The food comes out quickly. The quality is that of Italian fast food. Don't expect a lot out of it. If you order a dish with olives you better really like olives as the are going to dump 1/2 a jar or more on your dish, oil and all. If you want really good Italian look elsewhere. If you are in a hurry this is not a bad choice. Certainly better than Subway, McDonalds, etc. As the restaurant is so large it is not overly loud so you can easily carry on a conversation.

Edinburgh since its the capital most takeaway and restaurant staff are careless and hopeless and often act as if they doing you a favour! Food is not the same as Manchester branch and not the same concept where you actually see the person make the food and if you not happy with certain things you can mention it as they make the food. Had an issue with one of the staff at the pasta department where only 6 shrimps where put into the pasta and the cook and accidentally dropped one and left it out. This is such an amazing place. You make your order directly to the Chefs, and you can watch as they make your food. They use their own homemade pasta, which is incredibly delicious. Concept a bit different at this place. Find a table, then go order your food at the different counters and watch whilst it is cooked (pizza counter gives you a buzzer to come back when ready). Each patron gets their own card to order with to run up their own individual tab. Bruschetta and pizza was pretty tasty. Was pretty quiet when we were there so service was quick, not sure of how long the wait would be when very busy.

The system that they use is very interesting; you basically have a card, you go to the station you want (pasta, pizza, etc.) and charge what you want, and then at the end you pay. It was fun for the kids to watch the cooks prepare their pasta and pizza as well. The food was great; we had a large party of people and we went with a family style approach, sharing pasta, pizza, and other food. It was all great.

The location is very good, very central and easy to get to. It's newly built and has an open plan feel, with no reserved tables or seating. The layout is across three floors, with each floor having a different kitchen type - pasta, pizza, etc. The food was very good, cooked fresh to order and prepared in front of you. It was a bit annoying that you had to go order and pick up your food, but that's a minor gripe.

Went there a couple of months ago with my girlfriend. Was surprised how large the restaurant was. I liked the card system as it saved time but was really impressed by how the food was made right in front of me. It was the best Spaghetti Bolognese I have ever eaten. I can imagine it might be annoying having to wait to watch your food if the queues are big but because the queue size was small and we went at a perfect time, the preparation time was minimal. I would highly recommend this place and will be coming back next time I visit Edinburgh. My girlfriend also loved her food and took some of the leftovers home in a very cool container provided by staff.

This was my first time at a Vapianos... I ended up going three days out of four!!!! The food is fantastic I cannot say one bad word against it. I love the system they use as well, you get a card when you arrive and when you go to the counter and order the price is loaded onto your card, at the end on your way out you take the card to the till and settle your bill. Everything is freshly made right in front of you and you can choose which type of pasta you want in tour dish. They also do fresh pizzas and they have a salad bar. The desserts are really good too. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the cocktail. I gad a. Pina colada but wasn't very impressed by it. The other two times I went I had soft drinks. The food is outstanding here... I would highly recommend it!!!

In short would i go again......probably not. It wasnt terrible but it isnt great its just a bit meh. So to break it down a bit, the food is actually good and once we touch on the downside perhaps that will make more sense, but its all freshly made and tasty. Is it amazing food? No its not but perfectly good and enjoyable. I personally had the lasagne and garlic pizza bread with cheese, again all nice just not excellent. The person i dined with had ravioli again nice enough. The service is where the story changes a little and not because it was bad as such. Basically Vapiano had a unique way of ordering and getting your food. You get a little credit card type thing which you scan when ordering food the cost goes on the card and you pay when leaving. That isn't the really bad bit, it's the way the food is ordered and given to you and your party that rings the experience. So to order you stand in a queue at the station your food would be prepared at, you want pizza there is a pizza counter, you want pasta there is a pasta counter and so on. Imagine the scenario, you want pizza your partner wants pasta you both go and stand in queues, yes like actual queues at each station. When i was there my friend stood for 20 minutes for ravioli in a queue and it wasn't busy. I ordered lasagne and garlic pizza bread, both from the pizza bit cause lasagne gets cooked in the oven, i wad given one of those buzzer things to go back up. I say alone for 20 minutes instead of sitting chatting...... and this is the negative bit, i just don't understand this way of ordering and getting food it's the opposite of sociable and i wouldn't want to do it again.

Very good Italian chain - if you've been before you'll like the standard of this one. If you haven't been - there is no table service. You go in, find your own table, once each member of your party has received their dining card (don't lost this, replace is £50), look at the menu, go to the relevant stand (Pasta, Antipasta, Pizza) order and add the item to your card. The food is made fresh and you take it back to your table. This time I went on a Saturday lunchtime and due to the method of service we were standing for about 40 mins to get our food. However it's a very good standard of food and so long as you're not starving, it's worth the wait. The staff at the door will let you know if theres a long wait for food.

You either drag them around with you and lose your table or leave them alone while you wait for stuff to be cooked! Someone has tried to be just too smart! For the price, a 11£ risotto without a drink, they could have been slightly bigger.

I opted for the pizza - it was a nice thin base and reasonably priced. My friend opted for the risotto - this consisted of pre cooked rice, a sauce and some mushrooms. The bar has limited choice. I would only choose to go here again if other local eateries were full.

Lovely restaurant and bar in central Edinburgh, round the corner from the Hotel Indigo and next door to TK Maxx. Didn't have any food but can recommend the bottled cider. Friendly staff. You collect a card from the front desk and buy food and drinks as you get served by scanning the card which loads the money you are spending, then pay at the front desk before you leave.
