Well what fantastic restaurant, the staff and (front of house) from the moment were went in couldn’t do enough for us, they were just great with our children Chatting to them having fun making them feel at home, the food was heavenly from the starter main course to the deserts absolutely sublime, if you haven’t been don’t hesitate to go and if you’ve got children don’t worry it’s a child friendly place, our waiter was Dexter young good looking lad, a true asset to cafe Murano setup, Angela Hartnett has something special here and we’ll be back again and again for sure. Thanks for a great night/meal

Lovely service, lovely food, lovely staff. I wanted the buratta asparagus starter but they have replaced it with a mozzarella and fig. For my main I had the Portland Crab Spaghetti and the best crab dish I've had in a long time. It's not over powering. For dessert I got the poached apricot with ricotta cream and walnuts so simple yet perfectly complimented the rest of the meal. Very calming restaurant and nice environment.

This was my first candlelit dinner with my partner and it was so lovely, I enjoyed it very much! Italian food is always a win for me so it was a difficult decision to choose on what to have. "Do I want to go for the pasta or the meat dishes? If I go with pasta, what type would I like?" etc. But we settled on our order and it was brought out not too long after ordering. It was delightful experience and I would recommend this place to anyone to try out, you'll definitely take away something special from your time there, have fun! :) P.S. their bathrooms are in such high standards! Do book a table beforehand, it makes the whole process smoother, the dress code, in my opinion, is smart casual so don't stress with looking very fancy, unless you want to, then go for it!

What a lovely place to have dine&wine. We spent the New Years evening here in this lovely restaurant. Great hospitality starts at the entrance by greeting you and taking your coats and bags then taking you to your table. Food was amazing and super delicious unlike some other so-called Italian restaurants. A wide range of wine selection. Staff working come and check you out all the time making sure all is well. Overall, a fantastic food and service is guaranteed. Definitely deserves more than a 5*

High quality, "old-fashioned" feeling Italian. I visited here with a small group of friends and overall had an enjoyable time. We shared two of the starters and had a main each, all of which were delicious! The only reason I've knocked the review to 4* rather than 5* was because we were sat in the front half of the restaurant near the doors, and found it to be very cold. Obviously the restaurant can't control the weather outside, but sat at our table two of my friends had to put on their scarves or jackets to help keep them warmer which tainted the experience for us overall.

A fabulous evening at Cafe Murano St James. Great surroundings, not too busy on a Saturday evening. Service was first class, very personable and low key. Food was delicious, as were the cocktails. One of our party is vegetarian and their choices were just as good as the non-vegetarians in party. The staff really stand out for their friendliness and efficient service, I have visited 3 times since October and always had a lovely meal and noticed the staff are really top notch (and I eat out a lot in Paris and London for business and pleasure). Today we visited with a baby and were given a very warm welcome, with the staff all making a big effort with her. The food is always excellent too. Good wine list, I always take a glass of the Corvina which is a lovely full-bodied red. This is a top, top place and works both for a business lunch or a family meal. Looking forward to returning soon! One of my go-to places in London.

Nice Italian restaurant from the famous chef. Our hotel concierge highly recommended this place. Great service and very tasty food. They had good vegetarian options for us vegetarians. The risotto would have tasted better with a dash of salt less. The waiter was very nice to reduce the prices (without us asking) to accommodate for making the non-vegetarian dishes vegetarian. This is definitely a place to go to if you're near St. James place in London.

Loved it. Not sure why the reviews below are less than amazing because every flavor was wonderfully paired and exquisite. We had octopus, burrata, the risotto, garlic potatoes, and some sort of cherry desert. I’d highly recommend eating here if you can grab a seat. It was packed and we ate at the bar which i love to do. I started getting cafe murano's home cook boxes from dishpatch during lockdown. The food was wonderful. So with lockdown lifted we decided to treat ourselves to dinner at the restaurant. It didn't disappoint. The atmosphere was lovely. The service great and the food delicious. Highly recommended.

Although the service and atmosphere were great, I have some mixed feelings about the food.... some were excellent but some were barely passable and therefore overpriced even after considering its location😅 In general ‘cafe type’ food here were nicer than their ‘restaurant type’ main dishes....we wished that we ordered more small plates than large main dishes😓

Went for the pre-theatre menu - is not too far from Piccadilly and the theatres. £19 for 2 and £23 for three courses. Not many options but the cod salad, chicken main and pear tart dessert were nice, they do wine by the carafe and also bottle. So overall good value and nice food. Bit limited menu and not especially exciting - but decent before the theatre.

Let's say it's a pleasant place to have dinner. The table beside the window facing the road is a bad idea for winter. We were glad to be moved as it's cold and I was dreading a dinner there. Some form of heating should be placed there. The food had large portions. The halibut was moist and the veal was to the guest's liking. I did not enjoy my seafood tagliatelle. It seemed like a lot of spaghetti with little substance. Otherwise it was great. Good customer service. Generally pricey £££

Update: Since my review in January 2020, the management has addressed all the issues. The January 2020 review: I love this place normally. This time, however, it was only midiocre. The personnel was very very nice, attentive and timely.. until it got busy. Then it was like we didn't exist and sat there for 40 minutes waiting to order dessert... crazy. I love the food there, but this time, as lovely as it was, the portions really disappointed. My appetizer and my main were essentially the same size.. makes no sense to me! Overall, will go somewhere else instead.

The service was truly exceptional, and the food followed close behind. Various things we had (the vegetarian pasta starter, the chicken escalope main) were some of the best variations of that item we’d had for ages. And the lady serving us was either a genuinely delightful person or was doing a throughly impressive job of pretending. Two glasses of wine and 2.5 courses for two came in at £95. In my eyes that makes it a nice date night, but not a wild extravagance, particularly given the location. Definitely worth going.

I met a friend here last Saturday for a late lunch. As soon as I walked in I felt the buzzy, friendly atmosphere. The service was very good and the food was exquisite. The sensible portions meant we could have a 3-course set lunch without feeling overfull. If you are looking for Italian food and would rather a trip to Green Park than to Girona, you're in the right place. Incredible food cooked by a Michelin star chef, and the atmosphere is fantastic whether you're out with friends or on a Friday night date night. The selection of wines are all Italian and their whites in particular are phenomenal.

Lovely, casual trattoria style food. Definitely a great, central place to go to for an informal lunch or supper. Good, friendly service- at times a bit understaffed if you're at the back on a busy day. The atmosphere is nice veering on the loud- interior is unremarkable. The downstairs and loos really need sprucing up though- did they run out of money or something?! Looks like a loo in the local Chinese restaurant in Slough or something! The food is good, honest, simple Italian fare- the pasta dishes are especially good as are simple puddings such as the roasted peach.

Before I sat down for dinner here, I had no idea that there was a lot of buzz behind this restaurant - in fact, I didn't even know who Angela Hartnett was. So there weren't any high expectations on my part, but this restaurant scored low in my books for a number of things that went wrong. Lets start with the pros: - special dish of the night, Hogget, was delicious. The meat was a bit gamey but tender - nice atmosphere - prices aren't exactly cheap but it doesn't break the bank if you want to have a nice meal Cons: - where was the service...?! Not that we need to be coddled 24/7, but we hardly saw our server that night. We had to flag him down to order a few things, but he didn't come around to ask if he can take our order - we had a large party, and ordered 1 of all the appies on the menu. Only 5 came, and the rest were forgotten. No, not that it tasted bad - they were literally forgotten about. They tried to clear our dishes 20 minutes later, and we reminded them we still had dishes. - We were never informed of the special of the day, until our orders were being taken around the table, and when I wanted the Hogget Ragu, the waiter said "Speaking of Hogget, we have a different special..". So there were a number of people who changed their order based on this - the pork neck had flavour, yet was tender and dry at the same time. I didn't quite get it until I sampled a bite from the bf's dish. Definitely a disappointment. - We ordered 1 of each side dish (should be pretty simple). They were all forgotten about, again. By the time it was almost ready to come out, everyone was done eating. - We ordered 2 bottles of wine, both which arrived pretty much at the end of the meal. I think others were trying to slow down their eating to wait for the wine. The meal slid in under £50 for a main, and shared in some small appies / few bites of tiramisu, a cocktail and glass of wine. I'm really trying to remember details of the food, I don't think anything was wrong with it, but the scattered service made me forget about anything good about that night. The quality of food was overall good (except for the pork neck), hampered by the poor service and dinner experience, I'm (begrudgingly) rounding this up to 3 stars. Perhaps they had a bad night.. ??

Cafe Murano is an excellent, efficient restaurant, cooking interesting, tasty dishes in combination with a carefully curated wine list in a friendly - even romantic - atmosphere. Just off Piccadilly, Cafe Murano does have a great reputation for a reason. The restaurant is beautiful, designed with attention to detail. This creates an atmospheric and relaxed environment. It is definitely a place I could recommend for a random dinner as well as for a date. When I arrived, I was welcomed and given a nice table by the window. As walk-in I did not have a reservation, so I could only stay for about an hour. Knowing this, it was easy to get through my delicious dinner before the next booking. The all-Italian line-up of wines by the glass is a nice selection of different regions and grapes. One white wine stood out for me - the Etna Bianco, Tenuta delle Terre Nere, Sicilia from 2014. Last year, I had a very interesting Azores white wine grown on volcanic soil at The Corkscrew Wine Bar in Lisbon. As I really enjoyed that one, I thought it would be exciting to find out how an Italian wine from Etna would taste. Volcanic wine is nothing I have seen on many wine lists, so I just had to seize this opportunity. If like me, you like mineral notes in a wine, the Etna Bianco is something you will enjoy. It is a pretty dry wine, yet the volcanic soil adds a certain depth to it missing in most other white wines. I can imagine that some people would not enjoy the characteristic flavour, but I think it's a great wine. Soon, the complementary bread arrived, complete with a little sea of olive oil on a separate small plate. The bread was not sweet, nice on its own and even better with a bit of olive oil and pepper. I had ordered the truffle arancini starter which was very nice together with the opionated Etna wine. The truffle added a salty sensation to the dish. Strong, but luckily not overpowering the beautiful risotto inside. I was looking for a relatively small and light main, and the pumpkin gnocchi, sage butter, walnuts and gorgonzola was exactly what I wanted. I would almost call this dish a revelation. When I read the menu, I was not sure about the pumpkin gnocchi. However, it turned out that I actually now perhaps prefer it over potato gnocchi! The taste of the gnocchi was kind of neutral and smooth, and I think quite a bit lighter than potato would have been. The walnuts added a lovely texture to the plate and the salty gorgonzola perfectly enhanced the seasoning of the dish. Finally, the sage sauce made it a well-rounded and thoroughly enjoyable experience. Choosing a small main left enough space for a dessert. I went for the chocolate tart with milk sorbet. The chocolate was dark and bitter as it should be with an impressively shiny glaze. The pastry was crispy but still easy to cut through. And the surprisingly light milk sorbet nicely balanced the rich chocolate flavour and helped cleanse the palate. And as if this would not be good enough already, the dessert also went brilliantly with the Etna wine. After three courses, I left Cafe Murano very happy and satisfied that evening. Would I go again? Sure, any time - Cafe Murano really is an excellent restaurant.

I would like to suggest a menu that acknowledges vegan food as a norm. Angela harnet should start to embrace this new food reality. I had a good meal, However the menu is short of options in food creation for a vegan eater. The staff was friendly and acommodating, and for them I would give a 5 star. I hope the next time I visit cafe murano they would create a menu for vegans worth trying.
