Reviews of Gotto Trattoria
G.
The location is just amazing, beautiful spot to enjoy a meal with a family. The food is absolutely delicious, we were delighted by the service and the personal recommendation by the chef Mauritzio. Pasta was to Italian standards and the tasty pizza completed the experience. Great food at reasonable prices, definitely coming back soon!
A.
Gorgeous location just by the canal perfect for taking in some sun whilst sipping on a spritz!
Restaurant staff were super attentive and friendly and the food was delicious. Deep fried squid was light and crispy, I could have ordered an extra portion for sure. I also had the veggie pizza, the crust was just right and the quality of ingredients good. My two friends got the prawn spaghetti with courgette and chilli which is currently a special - they both loved it and both agreed the chef should add it to the regular menu ! I will be coming back very soon. Recommended!

What a great Italian restaurant around the neighbourhood area. Really tasty spaghetti carbonara very freshly prepared pasta and the sauce was tasty. Was hoping for more pasta 😀 but it’s been a great place to come for great Italian food.
M. K.
What a delicious experience and with a lot of gluten-free options (very friendly to coeliacs). I am just blown away by the combinations of flavors and how well everything goes together, and the restaurant has a very nice, relaxed environment. I send my congratulations and thanks to the chefs for creating all those amazing dishes and curating this experience. I would love to re-visit again and this is now in my must visit list when in London. Just wow
M. W.
Nice place for a weekend lunch in the sun. Indoor and outdoor seating by the canal. Shared a calamari, margarita pizza and octopus salad with my partner .... all delicious and would definitely order again. Service a little slow but very friendly!!
R. M. A.
The food is excellent with reasonable prices and located in a beautiful area next to the canal. The service wasn't as good as everything else as it took more than 30min for the 2 starters and it wasn't very busy.
F. G. U.
Very nice food, and the venue is also nicely located. Will definitely come back.
Btw, there was a delay due to a very large order before us. However, the chef came and apologised personally, which is very appreciated.
Also, the quality of food was so good that it was definitely worth the wait. Thank you!
M. P.
Very friendly staff happy to help and to share their knowledge about the Italian food and drinks.
Wonderful place for dinner especially for the "tasting menu club" it hapends once a month and gives matching wine for the full set menu.
S. R.
I'm so glad we live close to Grotto! We finally went for food here last weekend and it was absolutely delicious. Both the pizza and salad we ordered were great, can't wait to go back and try the pasta! Love that it's dog friendly too.
E. C.
Ate here on the weekend, our pizza was really authentic and the pasta dish was so good! Such a nice spot to stop after exploring the Olympic Park
A. P.
Gotto is one of the good Italian restaurants in Hackney Wick, located alongside the canal and a few meters from. Gotto is priced at a slight premium, with a full size pizza costing between £8.50 and £14.50 and pasta dishes between £9.50 and £13. The tuna pizza was crunchy and tasty, while the puttenesca pasta was fresh. Goto caters to different dietary needs, offering gluten free and vegan options.
The only area for improvement is the service - it was inconsistent and aloof with the food taking about thirty five minutes to arrive. The space is large and the outside space overlooking the canal is great on a sunny day.
D. R.
Great food at a great price . Excellent service by Leo - nothing too much trouble and took the time to chat to us . Would definitely recommend this restaurant as child /baby friendly .
J. H.
Lovely little Italian pizza restaurant. The menu is limited, although it was tasty. The kids menu consists of cheese and tomato pizza or pasta in tomato sauce... Not the best. Nice place to eat along the canal.
C. C.
Great food, friendly staff

We went with friends, including Italians, and the food is AMAZING!
Also, there was a small detail on one particular beer on that day and one friend ordered it... He didn't even mention or complain about it and David, the waiter (and for me beer chaman from now on) came and ask if my friend did or didn't find the beer with the right taste but with a funny smell... It was confirmed and he replaced it right away... It may happen, and the main thing is not to avoid the problem, but what you do with it.
We will be back, and we will try that proper carbonara that we saw you guys cook here. Thanks!
A. T.
I came here a week ago.The food was great! The chef accommodated to my dietary needs and our waiter David made us feel so welcome and generally was a nice guy.
K. R.
Authentic Italian Food in East London. Simple menu full of amazing flavours! Hidden along the canal at Here East it is a local gem for the residents of Stratford & Hackney wick. Be sure not to miss £10 Tuesdays for a starter and main! Would highly recommend.
R. L.
Top of the top…. Thanks to the staff and to Mattia for the wonderfull dining experience.
Every needs will and request was largely anticipated… keep it up!
F. A.
Wonderful experience! Food selection is very good as well as the quality for a not expensive bill. I went for burrata and gnocchi with mussels delicious! I will come back !
L. H.
Came in on mother's day for the set menu. The staff were welcoming and the prices were reasonable, but the food was brilliant. One of the best meals i have had in a long time for £20! Perfectly balanced flavours, delicious all around. Highly recommend the tiramisu.
J. C.
The food at Gotto was ok, we ordered 2 pizzas and both were really soggy, I think this happens because of the cheese. They had promise though... surprisingly the coffee was the highlight here. I had poached eggs and avocado and unfortunately both eggs were overdone and the plate was quite oily.
Q. X.
Great food, cosy atmosphere, and excellent service. Particularly enjoyed the antipasti and cocktails. About 20 to 25 per person for a comfortable meal.
T. C.
Brilliant place for dogs. We'd been stuck in the rain for over an hour and turned away from other venues. They welcomed us in, got my dog a bowl of water, fussed over him, and even brought him some pork off-cuts. He was a very happy (and, more importantly, dry pup.) Fantastic food, too, at very reasonable prices. I'll be a regular!
L. G.
Best place to eat in the Olympic Park. Really enjoyed our meal here, southern Italian food, really good starters to share and had a wonderful blood orange martini. Would be a lovely place to go in summer where you can sit out by the river.
M. Q.
Love the pizza and the Aperol Spritz is just amazing 😊
Enjoy the food and some cocktails
C. G.
I came here with my mate just to enjoy some sun.
Ended up staying for a good while, eating some amazing food.
Our waitress, Eva, was really friendly and attentive, it was such breath of fresh air to have good service.
If you come to Gotto, I would highly recommend talking to her, she will make sure you are taken care of! <3 <3
Big shout out to the chefs too the food was amazing!
L. G.
Great staff. Very Generous and well priced. Food. Good drink options. Great spot for a group. Recommend! Marco was great!
J. S.
Have been to Gotto twice for lunch - pasta has been excellent both times and wonderful friendly staff. Will absolutely be making this at least a monthly regular. The ragu is second to none
A.
Their courgette fritters are fantastic and the pizzas are decent but nothing to write home about. The experience was really dampened by the service which was quite poor. We had to repeat our order several times to the waitress who seemed to have no knowledge of the menu, then still the wrong food was served. Also the euro house dance music detracts from the overall ambience of a ‘trattoria’ dining experience. Overall, It all felt a bit confused and disorderly.
S. C.
I had a little chat with the lovely Sicilian chef and he recommended me the special pasta with prawns, We order one diavola pizza as well...it was amazing, specially the pasta was to die for! Friendly and nice service, we will go back!
I. “. D. S.
Pizza very nice, fast service but a bit expensive.
C. D.
We have been here last Saturday without any booking. The staff were great, pizza amazing. There is one girl who speaks Spanish who meets everyone she was top-level very nice, quick and to the point. I would recommend this place. Btw it was very busy there but we enjoyed our stay.
A. M.
The two of us had a couple of Ceaser salads for lunch. Fresh and tasty with plenty of dressing. Pizzas looked good. Sun trap outside. Staff welcoming and attentive. Decent value.
A. P.
Best seafood pasta I ever ate in London. Great quality at a great price. We'll definitely come back.
D. H.
£10 for an antipasti + pasta dish, must be the best value in London! Top quality fresh pasta, super great waiter we had too, think I just found my new local.
R. o. t. c.
We were met with warmth and curtesy. The pizza is beautiful, garnished with real Italian produce.. they have a small menu which is carefully and personally prepared by a good chef who understands flavours and traditional, good cooking. His Tiramisu is exceptional, the pasta dishes are traditional and as they should be.... and of course the coffee (any Italian will agree) is made well: short, creamy and not burnt..... Great choice of prosecco too.
Good value for money. Cant go wrong.
They welcomed our puppy and bought water for her too, which was very sweet.
A. C. C.
I like to come here because of the starters: I order a bunch of them to share and they are excellent. Nice staff, and good outdoor space for a sunny day.
G. F.
Would certainly recommend eating here. Great flavours and crust, I really enjoyed this place, staff are really friendly. If you are in the neighbourhood check it out.
A.
Great pasta, worth the visit. Probably the most affordable pasta restaurant I have ever visited, including outside of London!
B. L.
Amazing pizzas. Try to come here, when ot comes to pizza, as often as possible.
T. B.
We ordered a prosciutto and mushroom pizza with mozzarella and got a gammon and plastic cheese pizza. See figure 1 for gammon pizza
M. G.
Good Italian food (one of the best pizza in London - for an Italian guy). Great offer £5 for drink and slices of pizza as you want. Location is amazing, have nice facilities and baby changing room. It's absolutely worthy to go there and spend time!
L. C.
A relaxed vibe is the best phrase to capture this delightful Italian restaurant. The staff display a sense of calm that puts you at ease and they make themselves available to help. The venue is tucked away near a canal in Hackney that provides the perfect backdrop for couples. However, the spring and summer months enhance this appeal.
The venue is small and has a cosy atmosphere. With a wooden theme and a view of the open kitchen. The closeness of the tables provides that intimacy for couples to engage.
The food is wholesome and plentiful. Providing a hearty taste of Italy. The food is warm and each dish is well seasoned. The focaccia bread is extremely filling and the lamb dish melts in your mouth. The desserts could do with being lighter as the rest of the courses will be more than enough.
The drink selection provides an excellent choice of wines that have a good note bursting with flavour.
This is a little gem of a restaurant that certainly provides a welcome dining experience.
R. M.
Very good pizza, the dough is light and very well made. We took two pizza goto e one golosa. The ingredients were good (only the top of the pizza was a bit too watery). We will come back for sure.
(On Tuesday they have the offer 1 pizza + 1 drink for a tenner, it's a must!)
K. E.
The pizzas are incredible. I ordered a margherita and a diavola for takeaway and both were perfect, i'll be recommending them forever! The quality of the dough was faultless and the ingredients were the freshest, highest quality i've found in central London! I've visited Italy and the standard matched any pizza I ate there with ease, and paired with aperol spritzes on the riverbank I truly felt like i was in Naples! I had the perfect night thanks to Gotto. My compliments to the chef with the pixie cut and glasses - she is amazing!
J. V. S.
We came for £10 Tuesdays which is such a bargain! Food is absolutely delicious and good size portions. My only comments would be that my starter of crumbed camembert was full of chillies - which were not stated on the menu. The extraction fans were also put on making the place considerably colder - to the point we put jackets on. Other times visited have been perfect.
D.
The food is very nice here, good flavours, and we'll cooked, it is a shame that the menu is so small. With all that Italy has to offer I thought there should be more to choose from here, hopefully they change the menu regularly?! But what really let the restaurant down, was the waiting staff, appalling, slow, forgetful. For some reason the manager seemed to have all waitresses covering all seats, instead of certain waitresses covering certain seats, poorly managed.
M. A.
Absolutely delicious pizza! Take out only while in Tier 5. Fast service. No alcohol, but hot and cold drink available.
S. C.
What a little gem on the Canal! Lovely staff, fantastic atmosphere and amazing food! All the ambience relaxed and of the typical Hackney spirit. Sea bass was amazing cooked to perfection and the open kitchen with the inviting smells, makes you hungry all over again! Pannacotta is a must, & make sure you taste their Vermouth too. Definitely will come back!
S.
This little spot in Hackney Wick is amazing.
We were a group of 8 and everyone loved it. Food and service were perfect. Small menu so we had a range every dish tasted delicious. Definitely order a starter you won't be disappointed. Did I mentioned the cocktails and craft beer?
Thanks guys we are defo coming back...
A. K.
Margarita Pizza was delicious, really fresh and greatly priced. Great atmosphere and friendly staff, would certainly visit again.
N. S.
I honestly wasn’t expecting to eat such a nice pizza here! Delicious Italian pizza well made.
M. C.
Used to come here weekly before the pandemic and the food was excellent. Tiramisu is still delicious.
M. G.
We have been twice and I think is our best value eat out. Great food on the canal - authentic food and staff. I don't think eating out gets any better than this. I had gnochi with slices of black truffle - 10 pounds. Can you beat that?
A. B.
Hearty Italian food yet slightly undersalted and no salt on the tables.
R. J.
This is a place which really gets casual dining right. It's laid back and humble but the food is consistently brilliant and the service is friendly and efficient. The affordable wines and menu deals make this a great everyday kind of place which still somehow manages to feel very special.
R. I.
Always amazing food and lively atmosphere whenever we visit. £10 for two dishes on Tuesdays is amazing value - though I know it's only a trap to sell me their vermouth. The food is incredible though, and worth the trip to get there.
E. R.
Gotto is my new favourite restaurant. The food is simple but delicious and the homemade vermouth is a revelation! The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the canalside location is lovely. A great place for the kids to run around too. Highly recommended!
J. C.
Been going here a few years and its always good quality. Greaat pizzas and beer
l. A.
A place like in Italy ! I had a delicious fresh home made pasta. Will definitely come back.
D. L.
Pizzas (only but SO delicious, fresh ingredients) & drinks on offer for outside lawn area overlooking the canal. Uplifting buzzy atmosphere post lockdown. Remains our favourite Here East QE Olympic Park restaurant. 388 bus back to Stratford tube. Here East free shuttle bus currently only for Here East workers. Fair enough, with social distancing. Can't wait for Gotto to return to normal for fab cocktails, great food & service.
L. J.
This is a fantastic restaurant and I would even say one of the best places to eat in hackney wick! The workers are such lovely people, who make sure that you have a lovely experience Gotto Trattoria serves excellent pizza and pasta. It is one of the many restaurants that have opened at Canalside , in Hackney Wick
G. B.
I went with my kid for an icecream and an aperol spitz. The waitress was very kind and professional, the outdoor space is what you want for an afternoon break, during a pitstop from a bike ride, on the canal.
The location is one of my favourite in East London for a drink. Great atmosphere and lovely when it is a sunny day. The member of staff told me that the icecream is home made in the other Gotto restaurant. I got strawberry and chocolate and it was amazing. One of the best icecream I have had in London, and certainly on my top 10 overall in the capital: well done, good value for 2 big scoops for £4.
My aperol spritz was decent in taste however the size was offensively small for an italian customer from Veneto, who has been drinking this cocktail for 25 years around italy and London. Probably a very cheap brand of prosecco in a very small cup for 8£.
Someone could tell me: "this is London mate, wake up!" But I am used to aperol spitz all around East London and for 8 quids it was ridiculously small and I made the point with the kind waitress, who politely apologised and she agreed with me.
So if asked, I would politely suggest to the Gotto management not to loose customers with this little details, which actually makes the difference. I left a bit disappointed and will not return for a spritz but will buy another icecream for my son. I hope my review ( avarage mark) can be understood as constructive for my italian fellow citizens running a business in UK. Good luck!
M. S.
Really nice food, small but varied selection of dishes but all cooked perfectly. The staff were friendly and knew what they were doing. Would definitely eat here again.
R. I.
Love the excellent food here having been several times. Short and simple menu that changes frequently. Two for £10 on Tuesdays is excellent value. And they have homemade vermouth. Fabulous.
G. Z.
Very good food, exceeded my expectations. Bigoli with clams was fantastic. Had some fried squid and it was perfect, exactly what I expect Italian style calamari to be. Tried also their coppa, and it was also very good, not standard supermarket salumi. Add the relaxed atmosphere near the canal, and I have to say that this place is a great find.
D. Y.
Very nice place very good pizza and nice staff
G. F.
I chose probably the worst day to visit Gotto Trattoria. It was the day England played Sweden in the World Cup. Yes, the service took longer than it should and they were out of stock on some menu and bar items, I got an insight into how a typical day might look through the smiles and attentiveness of the staff. They were quick to offer alternatives to out of stock items, constantly checking that we were okay and genuinely apologetic that they couldn't do more.
I look forward to going back when there isn't a big match on.
J. M.
Came here before heading to the Olympic stadium and had a lovely afternoon. The food and drink was great value and very tasty (burrata starter was particularly good) and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. It's tucked away on the canal alongside other bars and restaurants. Good for families and lazy afternoons and a nice waterside walk away from the Olympic park.
A. E.
Clean plates all round. I had the gnocchi. Really great and the tiramisu was good too. 5 adults and 5 kids so mixed tastes but all happy.
w.
Excellently prepared food with an authentic Italian kitchen commitment while a hip but attentive staff made this real Hackney Wick attitude of warm and proud hospitality. Everything seemed home made with an exquisite attention to contrast and balance of flavours. The tagliatelle with lamb ragu had the delicious depth of slow cooked, multi-layered generously reduced ingredients. The bean and clam dish my partner chose was delicate yet with several tones of taste. The desserts were so obviously not-chain-restaurant but created with genuine appreciation of ingredients. My partner melted into an understated morello cherry tart which celebrated fruit above confection. My goats milk icecream with wild berries and balsamic vinegar could only have been improved by more daring dollops of vinegar. I really hope this restaurant does well in my beloved East End and becomes a well recognised gem, only not too much because ai still want an outside terrace table for me, my wife and my dog.
T.
Rrally lovely food, nice view by the canal. Id go here again if it wasn't so hard to find.
Nice for a date or bring family and eat at a leisurely pace!
I love their little nibbles and thier tiramasu was amazing too!
♥

d. R.
Food was absolutely lovely.
A. C.
Nice Italian trattoria near the canal, pretty authentic. Beautiful in summer as the sun shines until late here.
Some dishes are better than others (I tend to prefer pasta dishes here)
T. H.
Fabulous food - the menu is small, but they excel in each and every dish. Great service and a great experience overall. 👍 highly recommended
T. C.
Amazing late lunch deal of a drink (£5) and FREE pizza, help yourself style - the pizza is comparable to franco manca so highly recommend! Great sun trap too!
M. D.
Affordable prices, very good quality of food. I have just to say the service was warmly but not excellent, different waitress for the same table and they forgot our coffees. Besides that I really recommend this nice place
S. A.
Freshest calamari and best negronis I've had in a long while. Perfect canal side seating. Friendly staff too. I'd highly recommend this place.
R. P.
Nice new addition to the Hackney Wick scene. Decent food and friendly service. The octopus balls were tasty. Lovely creamy burrata with warm focaccia. Sea Bream carpaccio was fresh. Duck Ragu was an interesting twist. But I was disappointed by their home made vermouth which tasted diluted. Tiramisu was a bit dry too. This was a soft launch, so hopefully they'll iron out those issues.
R. L.
Pizza's are an amazing addition to the menu! Excellent staff who provide amazing service. Come here for a relaxed meal, good food and great vibes. 100% recommend!!!!!!!!!!
T. W.
Nice little place near Here East. The risotto was very rich but did the job. Staff did a great job with gluten free requirements.
L.
The food was delicious. Service very good. I definitely recommend the place. The gnocchi and truffles were awesome, and we loved the tiramisu !
I. C.
Very lovely pizza and a nice place for a sundowner
S. S.
Recently I had Brandy affogato on Christmas Pudding ice cream with amaretto biscuit crumble. One of the best desserts I've ever had.
B. F.
This is as Italian as it gets, delicious food cooked the way Italians do. Courgette fritters were so thinly sliced, crispy and yum. Also vegetable arancini not to be missed. I'll be back again, for sure.
M. B.
Lovely service, great place to have a late lunch and chill out. Food was amazballs! So good that I wished there were more options on the menu.
R.
Amazing find. Perfect outdoor seating by the canal. Quiet and not insanely busy. Food was amazing. Pasta (Bigoli with clams) was perfect, as was the coppa
H. C.
Fantastic tomato sauce. Amazingly well done considering the current situation. The dough was perfect. Absolutely recommend!
r. t.
Good, proper Italian food, nothing too fancy. Prices fairly reasonable and in a nice location.
V. W.
Beautiful spot by the canal, with incredible fresh pasta. Some of the best carbonara I have ever had! YUM!
J. D.
Consistently brilliant food, the best in the area by a significant margin. Really reasonably priced too so it makes it an affordable treat for us every week!
J. S.
The perfect place to bring three children and old friends for a relaxing Saturday lunch. Didn’t eat much but they had some cracking surfaces.

Really nice canalside location. Freshly prepared Italian dishes from a short but well thought-out menu. Make sure to try the bombette!

It's very nice. The food is good. I just wish they would turn the heating up a bit. Or even turn the heating on at all.

Nice cozy place to go to.. The food is good but not best! Difficult to park cars.
