Reviews of Il Bordello
A. O.
One of my favourite places to come and eat. Have been visited this place since it's been opened and it has never failed. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and they do know their staff. The place is relaxed and easy to hold a conversation without loud music blaring. The food is always fresh and plenty of.
J.
Great, friendly service and delicious food. Generous portion sizes too - don't expect to finish a whole pasta dish if you have a starter too! Busy even at 4pm on a rainy Sunday afternoon - a testament to its popularity.
R. R.
Extreamly lucky. 5* food 5* service. Heard good things before and on a off chance was driving by and decided to chance a table. Was fully booked but they manage to open up a table. Food was so good and staff were extreamly friendly.
Word of warning: make sure you have a booking as it is very popular I can see why.
P. S.
Delicious pastas and desserts but the service is really slow. The bread was cold and hard till they served our pasta. It seems a bit understaffed. The ambience is very noisy due to congested seating.
The bill was surprisingly high to me. It had £7.20 service charge for such slow service, highest of anywhere else!
Honestly, I'll rather visit Zizzi than visiting here as it's just a ripoff with the same quality.
C. T.
Local gem. The portion sizes are massive and the garlic pizza is a MUST! I really need to come here more often.
N.
Incredibly food and very generous portions. We had the valentines fixed menu and if it wasn't so delicious I would have struggled to eat it all. Go there just to experience the food. Make sure you take a full wallet and don't expect all the staff to be bending over backwards for you but they do what is says on the tin, serve and tidy with some nice ones thrown in.
Z. S.
Been going here for 15 years and it never fails to impress. The food, service and Italian wine list is exquisite.
Servings are large and great value for money and don’t miss the fish on the specials board.
Always brings a smile once you’re done.
A. D.
Classic generic Italian restaurant fare, tasty and in large portions. Nothing spectacular, but honest. Good service from attentive staff. Prices are quite high, but to be expected in what is quite an affluent area.
K. I.
Food arrived quickly.
Service can be improved.
For its price the food quality was ok.
Calamari was underwhelming.
J. S.
Amazing food as always 😋 Great service, fantastic atmosphere and wonderful location
V. G.
Very good restaurant and very good food.
Such a pity that the delivery is not as good as the food though.. we received our pizzas like this 😩
One star for the delivery 😢😭
D. G.
Great staff so professional and helpful, extensive menu, spoiled for choice, well served and presented, arguably the best in town.
Specials on chalk board eg skate £33.00 , and othe dishes can be pricey, but that depends how deep your pockets are.
Bottles of wine may elevate your bill, Reds I'd recommend Montepulcano Nobile.
Lovely interior decor, exterior is from a typical warehouse building mainly used for Thames merchants, the road is cobbled, and 300 yards from the very Famous Prospect of Whitby, that looks over the Thames.
Wrapping underground station is close perhaps a 5 minute walk.
Go for it you'll not be disappointed.
Ps Service charge is added to final bill, that's discretionary.
O. S.
Very friendly staff and great buzzy atmosphere. Food was super delicious, that is why this place is always busy, so definitely reservation required. Monk fish dish was the best I've ever tried. Definitely will be back.
N. Z.
Been coming here since 2003! Still keeping up a good standard with HUGE portions. (Note as of 2019, they shifted to a more spacious location further up the road - check address)
My picks are the Monkfish rice, scallops spaghetti, and a cheeky combo of homemade tiramisu and profiteroles (if you can squeeze it in!)
T. D.
Definitely vote for 5 stars plus for this lovely Italian restaurant. Hearty home cook meal. They focus on pasta but have other options like meat and pizza as well.
Everything cooked with heart and care here.
- Lobster aurora was perfectly amazing. Their pasta, their lobster, their sauce are all blended together
- Lamp and steak were super good too
- will always come back and try other pastas on their menu.
H. W.
Very big portion! Great value in terms of the price. All the dishes we ordered are tasty. The wait staffs are so Italian (with their Italian style humor lol).
Four starters we ordered as photo, smoked salmon, prawn, garlic mushroom (I personally love this one!) and prosciutto with melon.
Mains are seafood risotto, lobster spaghetti, T-bone steak, meatball pasta and scallops pasta. They are all very good, I can't decide which one is my favorite.
Desserts are tiramisu and a pudding.
Overall, this is a restaurant I would love to visit again!

Always a joy to visit Il Bordello. A cold Wednesday evening in March and still a queue waiting for a table, demonstrates the draw of this excellent Italian in Wapping. I have been fortunate to have visited this restaurant many times over the last 15years and I can say the standards have never dropped. Familiar faces, customers and staff provide a wonderful ambience and the service and food are wonderful. Not overpriced, good selection of wine and a buzzing atmosphere ro revel in - will remain a favourite haunt for many years to come. Keep up the good work!
J. W.
One of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever visited . Food was lovely and very good size portions. Would definitely recommend
S. A.
Went to celebrate my mother in laws birthday and I was shocked on how authentic and good this place was! The decor is rustic and great! The food is proper italian and the portions are big! Highly recommended!
M. C.
Amazing Italian restaurant in the heart of London. It is quirky, it is laud, proper Italian with great food and wine. The service is excellent. If you want to feel like you are in Italy, just book a table here.
S. B.
Love this ace really friendly staff an excellent food.
M. W.
Enjoyed ourselves immensely here. Food was good, ambiance was nice and service was friendly. Pastas were all great. Portion sizes a bit on the large side so definitely plan to share.
S. C.
This has been a staple favourite of ours and many in Wapping but its glory has faded. The pros first - very good service as always. The cons - extremely noisy with too many large tables and, sadly, the food is not what it was. The garlic pizza bread, a perennial favourite was luke warm and soggy and our main meals were distinctly average and the same as they've been for years, just worse. The trouble is, I think, that they've stood still while others have moved on. Won't be in a rush to return.
P. S.
A delight. From the moment I stepped through the door, I felt excited by the meal to come and I wasn't disappointed. Wonderful food, great service, a lovely buzzy vibe to the place and, finally, a bill that didn't spoil the evening. Well worth a visit. I'll be back!
X. P.
Nice atmosphere and service. Good value.
M. M.
Me and partner visited here after recommendation from the lady who owned the ship we stayed on that night.
A nice family run style restaurant all waiters dressed very smart and very enthusiastic. The price was good and a lot of variety on the menu.
Nice quiet atmosphere for a dinner date or even for a group. Well decorated for the style of restaurant.
The portions were very big and me and my partner both struggled to finish our plates which is how I like my food so was very happy with that. All cooked very well came out hot presented well and all tasted great
All in all would definitely recommend
H. H.
The food is amazing one of my best place staff always makes you feel welcomed and good services and good vibes 💯
D. S.
Excellent Italian restaurant in Wapping. Attended a ‘leaving’ lunch there; part of a group of roughly 35 people.
Amazed at how well they were able to serve such a large group so quickly and efficiently - particularly as we hadn’t pre-ordered. I had the mussels to start (huge portion) and lamb cutlets as a main. Everyone’s food looked great and portions were generous. Service was really friendly too, given how hectic it must have been for them.
Highly recommended!
J. O.
My fav restaurant. Great portion sizes and juicy seafood options. Love this place. Great prices. They always make a table available for me. Thanks so much 💙🙏🏾
Update: July 2020 post- lockdown
Thank you for reopening and serving us. It’s great to be back
J. F.
Amazing as always, love this place so much great food, great wine, great staff.
Picture needs updating though on here. This is their old venue.
H. W.
great food, huge portions, lovely service
B. c.
Valentines meal with my wife was great.
The staff were friendly and professional, the food excellent.
Highly recommended
A. H.
Fabulous restaurant. The skate was beautiful and excellent service. Definitely going back again. Family visit table of 12 and we loved it.
A. S.
Incredible authentic Italian food, big portions! The food is very fresh and incredibly tasty, friendly staff and a lovely vibe!
S.
We had a lovely night at this restaurant. Great staff and the food was lovely too. If you like garlic, you should try the garlic mushrooms, they were potent but delicious. We then had the lobster, crab and prawn pasta which was lovely but the portions are huge! We had a lovely bottle of champagne with the meal too. Only thing to watch out for, when dishes are recommended to you, be sure to ask the prices, we chose the lobster pasta which was gorgeous with a whole half a lobster, when we got the bill, the price was £35 each. Expensive when you're not expecting it. Great restaurant though. Thanks for the free limoncello too!
S. C.
After a day spent in and out the city of London, I wanted to end the day with a nice dinner out. I was welcomed in Italian by one of the servers and soon felt like home. I ordered orecchiette alla barese and my friend had the spaghetti with clams, both top notch first courses, first choice ingredients! All in all, an excellent Italian restaurant in Wapping, a real treasure, fairly priced, and great, friendly atmosphere.
M. M. B.
5 star everything as always! The best Italian you can find in London for sure! Always fantastic and authentic food and service! Fresh everything and great atmosphere
Y.
This is a nice restaurant and it was crowded. You can choose from many types of pasta and pizza, and the food is excellent, so I would like to revisit there.
B. K.
Been coming here for years and the food is fantastic, authentic and probably better than most restaurants in Italy I’ve ever tried. The tiramisu is certainly the best I’ve ever had in my life! And the new location is beautiful, more spacious and service is just as good as it always was! Amongst the best restaurants in London!
S. J.
Great food, nice atmosphere, large portions. Attentive, but not over bearing service and food came pretty quickly.
m. m.
I ordered through Deliveroo and the food arrived piping hot. The portions are huge and delicious. Will be ordering again.

BEST.PIZZA.EVER
We live next door and, having been to their place in the old location, we decided to book a table in the new location. The place just doesn’t disappoint!!! It is always packed (and I mean always), so better call for a reservation. We had pizza, although my friends previously tried pasta as well, and we were not disappointed. We now even call them and pick one up in 20min when we have people over.
From ambience, to food, to location, this place is amazing! Highly recommended.
We are fans and are very lucky to call them our locals!
G. F.
Amazing food! Authentic Italian food
Love love love it! Need more staff in the new restaurant - very busy. Looking forward to my next visit.
B. M.
I absolutely loved this restaurant, a little tucked away but a lovely atmosphere and amazing food. Can't wait to go back!
J. D.
Amazing!! The food here is unbelievably delicious and such good value. The staff are wonderful and the ambiance is great!! Would definitely recommend Il Bordello... The meals are massive so go hungry!!
S.
Really great Italian restaurant. Amazing food. Nice service.
T. A.
Lovely, lovely restaurant with incredible food (and portion sizes!)
T. S.
Amazing food, great atmosphere, lovely staff. The pasta was delicious, and so was a giant portion of the tiramisu. Definitely recommended!
B. D.
Very nice staff, nice restaurant deco, and delicious food. Book in advance as can be busy on the evenings, especially Friday and Saturday.
M. L.
Absolutely amazing restaurant!
Waiters very attentive and the food is out of this world!
S. W.
I have been to this restaurant a few times and have always found the food and service very good. I was there last weekend and unfortunately the service did not live up to its normal standard which was a shame. The food was still good though
B. B.
We had a lovely dining experience at Il Bordelo and will certainly return.
G. A. K.
Fair prices, good atmosphere and always more food than I can handle. I still eat everything though
M. s.
Great place friendly staff
B. M.
Really good food! Visited with a party of six and every dish was outstanding. I had a caprese salad, and an outstanding pizza with gorgonzola, peperoni and rocket... I didn't want it to end. Felt like an actual Italian restaurant. Staff were lovely and very accommodating
B. K.
Nice dining atmosphere. Very friendly staff. Excellent food and very generous portions. Highly recommended.
J. P.
Amazing place. Food is delicious. Love this place definitely coming back soon. 🤩
G. T.
Nice local Italian restaurant, reasonably priced and very decent serving sizes. Good attentive service.
H. L.
Nice Seafood Nice staff. Tiramisu is amazing.
C. B.
Amazing food and service, really authentic Italian feel and great value for money. Will definitely be back!
B. B.
Food was amazing - had a long wait & service could have been better but food made up for it all
p.
Great date night restaurant! Excellent food. I recommend booking in advance, they get busy. The staff were an absolute joy as well! 🙌🏾
J. L. (.
Excellent pizza, friendly staff. Great venue
D. V.
One of our favourite restaurants in London. We have brought many of our overseas guests here and it never disappoints. Authentic Italian servers, great atmosphere, and delicious food. Always a wonderful time!
J. T.
Decent food, uneven service, alright prices. Good, not amazing
A. R.
Delicious food, large portions and amazing service
C. M.
Best Italians in East London period. Great service, amazing food and great wine. While being at a fair price. There's very little to not love about this place, it isn't faffed about and it's just straight forward great food and great service. Bit dated at times but it just adds to it own charm a must go to place, if you can get a table.
S. K.
Lovely atmosphere and service. Food was excellent!
I. O.
Such a delicious lunch and always dependable. Great fish and the veal chop is amazing....absolutely love this place.
J. M.
The best Italian restaurant in town. 100% recommend. Pizzas are unreal. Wine is not as expensive as in other trattorias, and pasta is BOOM
a.
Very nice food and friendly service. Very welcoming atmosphere. Will recommend.
F. M.
Fantastic calf liver main course, with a mussels starter. One of the finest Italians in London.
T. A.
Amazing authentic Italian food in a great environment
P. C.
It's ok but I found it to be pretty average Italian food considering the prices, service a bit hit and miss as well.
S. C.
Always great, just pizzas tonight that were fabbo
J. S.
One of the best Italian restaurants in London, lovely menu, service and atmosphere. Booking is advised, this place has a strong catchment - people come to eat here from far and wide. Highly recommend! Good veggie options, you will struggle for (or not have any) vegan options, though.
A. a. C. W.
We love this place. One of our favourite restaurants and definitely our favourite Italian restaurant. Every single dish is great, have never been disappointed by anything we’ve ordered here.
G. W.
Lovely restaurant with accommodating staff. Food was okay to good. I had Pollo Cacciatoria which was okay (wouldn't recommend) but my partner had Tagliatelle Arriabiata which was really nice. However, the service was really slow. We eventually had to ask for our food.
I would definitely go back but only if I wasn't in a rush.
D. J. W.
Fantastic restaurant, outstanding food and service, I highly recommend this place
L. W.
Generous portions, great atmosphere and amazing food. Busy, so obviously a local favourite
G. F.
Authentic Italian, very high quality food and friendly service
C. F.
Had a great family birthday party. Food as usual great
G. S.
Went here for my partners birthday it was amazing! Staff where friendly and looking sharp. The actual restaurant was elegant and seating was arranged nicely. The starters were amazing, loved the mushrooms. For mains I had a seafood platter the best I’ve had. Would eat here for the rest of my life gladly 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
D. K.
The best restaurant in East London. Great food and the people who work there are brilliant. If you are eating out in Wapping/Liverpool St area definitely come here.
R. G.
This restaurant has the highest standards of food, service and wine. I have been there on a few occasions. They cater for all tastes although primarily this is an Italian restaurant. Their house wines are SUPERB both white and red although an excellent list is available. You can take away unconsumed food and may well meet national or international figures enjoying the ambience and cuisine. Dishes represent excellent value. As a result the restaurant is never empty. I ate the best monkfish .ever yesterday - the quality and portion was as good as if it had just been landed from the fishing boat. You have to book because the secret is now out as to just what value and how good this restaurant is. Children are also made welcome by the excellent staff.
D. S.
Lovely meal and excellent friendly service as usual
A. B.
Lovely atmosphere and the food was really good, they did well in accomodating a group on 12. However there was a bit of a language barrier that made ordering and asking questions a bit of a struggle. The waiting staff weren't as attentive to our group as they were to some others diners. We even missed out on getting a plate of dessert, yet it was added to the final bill. I'll definitely recommend the restaurant to others as the food was really good.
D. G.
The pasta takes very good, but I think the pizza is over-hyped. You can find cheaper pizza in London nicely baked as well. The service wasn’t great. They do their job, but I didn’t feel I was specially welcomed. That doesn’t mean they are rude or anything, but there are more welcoming places in London. Overall, I think it’s good and I would go again, but I’m giving it 3 stars to compensate for the hype.
A. W.
Classic authentic Italian food and atmosphere. The food was lovely, large portions reasonably priced.
I. S.
From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was at the friends' house. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Lively ambience with tables positioned very close to each other. Good wine, great food - grilled sea bass & octopus salad were outstanding! The portions were very generous in true Italian style. Overall this is a great restaurant & it won't be long till I come back here again :)
C. O.
Scrumptious food, busy atmosphere, great service
D. W.
The carbonara was outstanding. I wasn’t thrilled with the pizza so wouldn’t bother again. This place is all about the pasta
I. N.
We got a takeout for 2 portions of pasta and 2 deserts, it was really well packaged, the portions were well served and food was excellent. Happy to support local business with such quality! Thank you, can wait to dine in once lockdown is over.
G. D.
Italian institution in East London! This place is busy every night of the week, hard to get a table unless you book in advance. Food is delicious and portions are very generous. Service is friendly and waiters are great at recommending from the menu. The wine selection is also good. Highly recommend!
R. K.
Really fine Italian resturant with lovely staff and a good menu. Not cheap but you wouldn't expect it to be and it's not excessively expensive either. We sometimes go on Friday afternoon when its busy but the staff are still charming and helpful and very italian. We were about the last customers before lockdown. I wish them luck and hope they survive. They have been doing it and doing it well a long time.
J. G.
Very good Italian restaurant. If you want to eat authentic Italian food this is the place to be. Massive portions! Don't even try to take an antipasto and a piatto and a desert per person but go for sharing instead ! The place is also very nice, much more beautiful than the previous one. I've been going there for few years now and the quality has not changed. Leaving in west London, I do not hesitate to cross the city for a good pasta plate.
D. E.
Great restaurant, great food and great service.
I love the new venue as well, it’s much nicer than the old place. More intimate and stylish.
I’ve been coming here for years, and have rarely had any issues. On the odd occasion something isn’t right, they’ll bend over backwards to rectify it.
Oh, and they make a mean Vodka martini, always shaken, never stirred.
Keep up the good work.
Y. P.
Great food and very friendly people. Properly cooked pasta 😊
S. P.
We came here for our 14th wedding anniversary, as it looked nice when I walked by it one day. It turns out this is an old school Italian restaurant that is taken seriously. For the amount of food you’re given, the prices are really reasonable. But the prices aren’t the best part. The food is outstanding. Like if it was somewhere in Italy, I’d know it was authentic Italian food. Can’t wait to go back and try the pasta.
R. G.
Just a great local Italian place! Fantastic food, big portions and when you're allowed in the atmosphere is chaotic and lively and the waiters are hilarious. Great stuff!
E. b.
The food was AMAZING!, proper italian, and we had the best service ever! Thank you so much to Mimo!
d. c.
This place is paradise. The food , the establishment and the service . Whether your taking your mum your dad your sister your brother your gf your bf your kids or your grandparents this is the place
S. E.
We were pleased to get fitted in as a couple with no reservation and very much enjoyed our pasta dishes, which were both tasty and generous. I can relate to the points that other people are making about the service not being the most attentive but this didn't really impact on our enjoyment during our visit. It's true that the tables are packed in tightly but this seems to be necessary to accommodate demand and, for us, contributed to a lively, bustling atmosphere. Overall we very much enjoyed our meals and, if in the area, would go back.
F. F.
If you want a great pasta or a great pizza or even an amazing tiramisu this is the place you want to go!
G. C.
Fantastic service for my birthday meal, reasonably priced and fantastic food. Portion sizes are generous (starters are sharing size - don't make the mistake we did) and we all had incredible pasta dishes. I want to go back already!
E. R.
Excellent food and service. The waiters were attentive and catered for all our needs. They were friendly and were sharp on timings. Decent prices for the level of service and location. Thoroughly recommend!!
S. C.
The best Italian in London. Rustic and authentic menu, mediumly priced. All the waiters are middle aged Italian dudes with a bit of attitude, which adds to the whole experience. Great wine, great food and loud atmosphere. Make sure you book!
S. M.
Beautiful takeaway pizza - if you collect. Deliveroo orders are a disaster as rider just folded the large pizza box into a small back box on back of his moped, no insulation bag so it arrived folded, toppings had slid off and it was almost cold
N. H.
Great food, good service, friendly vibe.
G. F.
Great Carbonara!!! Not amazing pizza, I would come again, but to have a Pasta or other mains, not definitely for a Pizza
M. B.
Just the best for food and service, great staff and atmosphere
A. B.
Best Italian in London hands down. Very professional staff, all very attentive. I must have tried about 80% of the menu so far and not been disappointed once. The Carbonara are better than in most places in Italy. Good wine selection too. Booking is a must.
N. S.
Fantastic and authentic Italian dining experience. The food was excellent with the staff providing a warm, friendly and personal experience. The fact the place is always busy is testament in itself to how great this place is.
R. W.
Have been coming here for over 15 years and it is always excellent. The food is pretty good, the portions are enormous and most importantly it is consistent. Nice busy atmosphere almost every night of the week. Book early for Thursday, Friday and Saturdays as it is very busy. Try the garlic pizza to share for a starter or the bruschetta.
J. F.
Hearty portions. Great traditional Italian food. Waiters have been there forever. Great value for money always. Go starving. Go home stuffed.
D. D.
Traditional Italian which has been busy each time I've visited. Big pizzas and good pasta portions. Tasty food. Average prices. Nice ambience. Can get crowded and a bit cramped at tines. Toilets clean but cramped.
S. S.
This place is an Italian gem! The staff is very helpful and great at customising the menu for any specific preferences. Big fan of the seafood pasta here. The place does get crowded, especially over weekends, - but that's no surprise given the great food and wine selection.
H. M.
Great neighbourhood Italian. Portions are big and food is delicious and comforting. I love the porcini mushroom ravioli. Decent wine menu and staff are great.
A. S.
Delicious fresh food, huge portions be wary...and don't be shy to get it packed to take home as it is normal there...They do ask if you would like it at the end. Atmosphere is lovely and relaxed, great place to celebrate special occasions. Price is great for what you get! Service is very friendly and great attention to detail. Highly recommend! Enjoy.
A.
This is by far one of the best Italian restaurant you can find in London. Located in the centre of Wapping, by the Thames, you will find an excellent and traditional Italian menu and the service is also of high standard. Definitely a 5 star experience for me, even after visiting a couple of times. You do need a booking if you want to be guaranteed a table though (even on week days) as this restaurant is always very busy
A. H.
One of the best Italians I've ever ate at. Good quality ingredients transformed into amazing dishes. The staff are are very good and the restaurant itself is lovely and in a brilliant area.
G. S.
A fantastic small neighborhood restaurant with great food and service
S. M.
If you want authentic Italian atmosphere and food, this is the place to be. Service can seem sometimes slow, but rather than being grumpy about it just sit back and immerse yourself in the lively environment. We loved meat dishes here, focaccia bread is addictive and desserts are amazing.
P. L.
The place is average for the location and the food was not tasty, the meat had a weird taste.
S. Q.
Great good at reasonable price within a clean and pleasantly decorated environment.
Unfortunately we were overcharged on cpl of items and charged for a desert that no one even ordered. Check your bill thoroughly
Otherwise, totally recommended.
T.
Have been here twice, the last time late October. The food is very good - my crab ravioli was superb - and the service attentive and cheerful. Highly recommended.
P. G.
The best carbonara I've ever had. Pizza also is great. Huge portion sizes and reasonable prices. Many native Italian waiters, ours was very nice and always around. Best quality+size/price ratio in London
P. T.
Almost impossible to get a table apparently but our besso friends asked an got us in. Brought my mum and partner who both had a great time. The wines are good. Staff are old school Italian chaps. Funny sense of humor, just go with it. Hopefully I can book myself next time!
D. M.
Quality has significantly dropped since i last visited 2 years back and the price has increased too. Ravioli al Funghi was very salty and the muchrooms weren't high quality. The carbonara was nothing amazing too.
J. A.
My personal favourite Italian restaurant.
A. M.
Came here for a birthday party on a Saturday evening, booked table for 5. Shown to table for 7 which was a bit puzzling. Our waiter in all honesty wasn't great. Got drinks order utterly wrong. Seemed like not only had he received no training but it was his first night and he'd never been waited on himself so had no idea what a waiter actually did. Mercifully we were then moved to the right table for 5 people when the group of 7 arrived! The new waiter was brilliant, one of those physic ones who knows you want something just before you do. We all had pizza which were amazing and the food on the tables around us looked equally inspiring. Excellent value, will definitely be coming back to explore the menu further.
P. B.
One of the best local address in Wapping. Great pizzas (calzone is my favourite) and very generous portions, especially lasagne. Staff is very friendly, I recommend takeaways: call before and be on time as service is very efficient and punctual.
K.
No doubt the best Italian I've had in London. The food is exceptional and the portions are generous. I'd highly recommend the Linguine Sea Scallops (comes in a Brandy cream tomato sauce) or any pizza, and be sure to make room for dessert because they're all delicious (special mention for the tiramisu and profiteroles). There's always a lively buzz and great atmosphere. Reservations are a must since they are usually booked up in advance.
A. C.
Have been several times to Il Bordello and it has not disappointed yet. We bring visitors to London here too and they are always impressed. Pastas are fantastic, as is the steak and the garlic pizza bread. Usually really busy (understandably so) so best to book a table in advance. Waiters are more efficient than friendly but they are usually rushed off their feet so I'll forgive them!
J. G.
Classic Italian, in its new home after many years further along the High Street. The staff are friendly, attentive, dismissive, aloof, cheerful and conspiratorial all at the same time, in that way that only Italian waiters tend to be. The food remains excellent and booking remains essential.
L. W.
I've been going to Bordello for years and It has always been a positive experience. The food is fresh and well prepared, very authentic feel and always busy/lively. Prices are very good for the quality of the food they serve. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes a good quality Italian.
D. P.
Went for the Valentines Dinner, the food was very good and tasty, the service was attentive and quick, portions were decent and filling. However I still think it was over-priced and they added £10 service charge on the bill for our table of two. You won't be disappointed here, but you pay for the premium.
S. B.
Busy Italian fantastic mixed meats to start followed by garlic prawns with spinach. Delicious
D. M.
Beautiful genuine Italian food and beautiful genuine Italian staff! Always a lovely place to go but they do need to watch how much cracked shell gets into their seafood pasta!
S. C.
Fantastic Italian food and huge portion sizes; makes me wonder if their head chef isn't a genuine Italian Nonna, who is hell bent on ensuring that Londoners are suitably overfed. Whatever you do, make sure you're hungry when you go (and you must certainly should go). Just don't forget to book ahead.
J. B.
It came highly recommended and other reviews are right in that it is very popular, noisy (in a nice way!) and friendly. The food was certainly good but I think we both made relatively poor choices, hence the lack of a star - my special of calves liver in butter and sage (always a favourite) was, sadly, not all that it can be, despite a very generous portion size.
Having said that, I would be very happy to go back and give it another try from the very extensive main menu.
V. Y.
I love Il Bordello and despite not having been for a very long time, nothing has changed. The food is freshly prepared and the portions are HUGE. The waiting staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Book in advance and ask for a table in the main dining area. We had garlic bread starter which was extremely thin and crispy topped wiith a beautiful tomato sauce with just the right amount of garlic. Seafood linguini and vegetarian lasagne. Will definitely be going back.
I. S.
The place has delicious food and also very average dishes. Service quality really depends on the waiter you get. Prices are good and if you know which dishes to choose you'll definitely enjoy it. Almost always I find the food to be too salty though.
P. S.
Really quaint old English place..... Refurbished for a modern restaurant BUT keeping the architecture as before. Great food selection. Huge list of wines..... Portion size is substantial. Very conveniently located near a tube station. Must visit 👍

The best Italian in this area
D. E.
Great restaurant, great food and great service.
I love the new venue as well, it’s much nicer than the old place. More intimate …
I. C.
Food is really nice. The service is a bit slow though
J. G.
Very good Italian restaurant. If you want to eat authentic Italian food this is the place to be. Massive portions! Don't even try to take an antipasto and a piatto and a desert per person but go for sharing instead ! The place is also very …
C. C.
Great food and atmosphere. The staff may not look the most friendly gang but they are kind in heart. Don’t take it personally!
J. C.
Went for my Mum's birthday and Food is as good as always, very generous portions but a bit noisy on a Saturday evening
A. S.
Delicious fresh food, huge portions be wary...and don't be shy to get it packed to take home as it is normal there...They do ask if you would like it at the end. Atmosphere is lovely and relaxed, great place to celebrate special occasions. …
I. N.
We got a takeout for 2 portions of pasta and 2 deserts, it was really well packaged, the portions were well served and food was excellent. Happy to support local business with such quality! Thank you, can wait to dine in once lockdown is over.
G. J.
Always a nice meal, good portion size, great menu and friendly service...
A. S.
Big portions. Efficient service. Delicious food. Friendly staff. It's clearly not a matter of luck that this restaurant is packed with patrons while other places around, like a Turkish restaurant down the same road, barely see any traffic.
They allow you in till late, which, as a lazy, hungry local I am grateful for.
H.
Amazing food, really generous portion sizes, very friendly and jokey staff! Food arrives very very quickly so if you like a break in between starters and mains etc I would say up front! Always packed (good sign!) so tend to be sat right next to other people.
A. L.
My wife and I went to this restaurant a few months back to have a drink and dessert after dinner, because it was on our way home. It was about an hour before they closed, and they were only about 20% full.
We ordered our drinks and then started to order dessert, and we were told that they were not that kind of restaurant and we should order a full meal if we wanted to stay. We declined and said we would leave, but they were so gracious that they said they would let us stay this one time but we were never to try it again...
We paid for our drinks and left...I guess our money isn't good there.
Didn't go back again after that, and wouldn't recommend the restaurant if you are planning on eating in and want good service.
A. W.
I work in a restaurant myself and as a professional, I can say that the food is lovely here. The menu has the huge variety a restaurant of a high class needs and everything on it is well-made. I've never been disappointed when I was eating here. However, there is room for improvement in the decoration of the place.
Y. A.
I discovered this place 3 years ago and have been back countless times since.I absolutely love the pasta dishes such as the 4 cheese gnocchi, the pasta with brandy, cream and seafood, the crab ravioli, etc. Pizzas are delicious too, and although I don't eat steak, I'm told it's amazing as well. And no matter how much you eat, make sure to leave some room for dessert - profiteroles are divine.
Waiters can be a bit grumpy sometimes, especially if you don't order alcohol, but overall my experience here has always been outstanding. Booking in advance is a must.
J. T.
Food is mostly great, fantastic even and affordable but the antipasti are very disappointing. Good wine list, a bit pricey. The main problem with Il Bordello is that it’s noisy.
R. M.
Good food and wines coupled with friendly and efficient service. Everything that could be hoped for in a local restaurant.
M.
A local gem. Amazing food and while not being the cheapest Italian in London, the portions are worth the price. Hard to finish a three course menu there. There Amarone is very nice and good value for money and the service makes you feel in Italy
M. G.
Been here twice and plan on coming back. Lasagna was oily but BEST carbonara I've ever had- generous portion of pancetta and the tiramisu was amazing- enough for 2 people. Will try the pizza next!
B. C.
Truly delicious authentic Italian food. Can be very busy and quite loud but worth enduring for the tasty food. Decor is a bit old fashioned but doesn't really matter too much.
M. T.
Beautiful new premises ideal for large groups or romantic meal for two
C. W.
Pizzas are extremely large thin crust, full of flavour and may mean you don't have room for a dessert. Restaurant was packed, we'd reserved a table, but the service was good/ friendly and although noisy you could still have a conversation. Extensive alternatives to pizza also available.
H. B.
staff are all amazing and lovely, service was impeccable and food was fantastic, great experience always!
M. B.
One of my favorite Italian places in London. Seems family run. Has a chaotic atmosphere but it's fun, rather than distracting. All of the dishes are great but the spaghetti and meatballs is particularly special.
A. B.
Food was good. Could have been great on another day. Service was surly. Clearly took issue with our table's decision to have tap water only. Ended up being slow, grumpy, disinterested and unattentive. I'm sure this could have been a 4 on it's day, maybe even a 5.
L. O.
Casual restaurant with great Italian food. Very busy at dinner time - booking a day in advance highly recommended. Most of staff are Italian with a quirky approach to service - you need to follow their protocol otherwise they will be unhappy!
F. H.
This is Italian food at it's best; outside of Italy anyway. Wapping is spoilt having such a fine restaurant right in it's centre. The other reviews on here completely do it justice; from portion size to service to selection of wines this place is outstanding. Check it out.
J. C.
Went for my Mum's birthday and Food is as good as always, very generous portions but a bit noisy on a Saturday evening
G. G.
Really nice food although slightly expensive. It's great for special occasions, i have been there more than 5 times, food is always fantastic, service always pleasant, they worth the money at least.
D. V.
We only tried their pizza which was very average. It is always busy so they must be doing something right. In terms of pizza, we prefer In Bacino.
J. P.
If you are looking for a great neighbourhood pizza restaurant then you must come here. Great vibe with an authentic feel. I can recommend the four seasons pizza. Probably best to book before going.
A. T.
I just moved in the wrapping and is my local restaurant I could not be any happier. Amazing food great customer services.
I love the veal Escalop and spaghetti carbonara.
My wife really liked the seafood linguine.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
C. E.
This restaurant is always packed - not just because it's always so busy but because they really cram the tables in, and the diners round them. The place is clearly very popular, but I wonder how many can be repeat customers because the emphasis is clearly on quantity, not quality. The portions are enormous, but the food is very average and the service distinctly surly. This place is neither jolly nor relaxing and personally I'd rather go elsewhere.
R. D.
I've tried quite a few Italian places in London and I have to say Il Bordello is definitely my number one!
I went there numerous times when I was living in Wapping, either to eat-in or for some take-away (Il Bordello pizza at home snuggling in the couch = paradise) and I was never disappointed.
The food is amazing, the prices are reasonable and it has this great "family-owned-restaurant" atmosphere, quite welcome in a city where chains are everywhere.
It's usually pretty busy most of the time, but weirdly enough, I managed to get a table (for 2 to 4 people) on the spot every time I went.
V. S.
Great service good choice of menu but £££.
P. C.
Very Busy, Very Loud and Very Italian (depending on how much you like it Italian). The food is fantastic. Great wine selection. The staff though is typically Italian (again depending on how much you like it Italian, it can be a good thing or bad.
S. H.
Great management, great food, buzzing atmosphere. No faults!
H. J.
Delicious food, enormous portions - only downside is how loud and crammed it always is, but that's because it's always full! I recommend booking in advance. I've only tried their pastas but the last time I went I had possibly the best Spaghetti Carbonara I've ever had - perfect amount of cream, not too much to make it claggy and heavy but enough to keep it moist and delicious. The smoked salmon, avocado and prawn starter is also a highlight. They do a wide range of dishes, although their dessert menu is a bit more limited. One imagines that might be because most people are full before they get to that stage! Several times I've told acquaintances I live in Wapping only for them to tell me that they only know Wapping because one time they went to a great Italian place there called Il Bordello. It's a reputation well deserved!
A. M.
Fabulous food. Very large helpings of food freshly made in the premises I believe. Friendly and attentive staff. Great value for money. Go!
A. A.
A word "DELIZIOSO". Best Italian restaurant I've been to so far.
A. C.
Perhaps the most amazing Italian restaurant I have ever been to. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants to experience and friendly family orientated environment. The food is to die for, especially the meatballs. I have been going to the Bordello for the past 8 years and I hope that it runs for another decade.
J. W.
The menus options are an excellent value. The dining experience overall is very pleasant. I highly recommend this restaurant.
K. A.
Hearty meals, not the best quality Italian in London but very good overall. A great environment and top notch service. Never gotten an order wrong in 6 years of going there.
J. R.
Love this place. Never had a bad meal. The smells coming from the kitchen are reason enough to visit but the mushroom ravioli...omg...its amazing! Best Italian in London.
a. c.
Best Italian restaurant in London. Food portions are big and food always delicious. You must check it out!
K. M.
Real Italian Food. Best in London. Great tight cozy atmosphere. Great seafood....great thin crust pizzas. Tucked away in Wapping. Good wine list. K
F. H.
Brilliant authentic Italian food as usual!
L. M.
Very nice food. A bit crowded, but maybe it was just the occasion (during a work Christmas party). This made it a bit hard talking to each other. Good value for money. Big portions of pasta.
C. C.
Great food and atmosphere. The staff may not look the most friendly gang but they are kind in heart. Don’t take it personally!
K. K.
The most authentic Italian restaurant I've been to in London. The food is amazing, the seafood is fresh and the service is great. Can't go wrong with the octopus salad and seafood pasta!
I. K.
Friendly staff excellent service generous portions and very very tasty and authentic Italian food. I love it!
C. C.
Great food and fenomenal service. I've been here a couple of times and the quality is quite constant. No doubt I'll be coming back as soon as I can.
A. M.
Quality ingredients, generous portions, family run, moody Italian staff. As close as possible to the real thing. Definitely worth a visit. Book a table or you will have to wait.
D. D. R.
Average good Italian food.
The owner and some of the staff should improve their hospitality skills.
Tony is their best asset.
H. G.
Most delicious italian food I have eaten anywhere. Amazing staff.
C. S.
A wonderful, noisy, fabulous experience.
G. S.
Took my wife here for her birthday and she loved it shes italian and as soon as she took a bite of the food she said it took her back to italy, the service was quick, warm and friendly. Everything was amazing so if youre looking for great italian food you wont be disappointed.
I. I.
We have been dining in this place for many years and never been disappointed. Friendly, great food, reasonable price, always fresh. Service is great too. Very recommend.
G. M.
Looking for traditional Italian food. This is an amazing Italian restaurant and the food never disappoints. It is always tasty and the plates are amazingly filling. A definite must is the Garlic Mushrooms and the variety of Seafood pastas.
R. L.
Def try this place. Food is of a high standard. Service has been hit and miss. Ensure you book, as it's always fully booked.
V. T.
This is a great and very authentic Italian restaurant in London. It feels like a family run business so the ambiance is cute and cosy. The restaurant sits in the quiet and picturesque streets of Wapping, but once you walk inside it is bursting with energy. The waiters are all dressed in traditional outfits that you see in a restaurant in Rome and the tables are always filled. Try to make a reservation before going there. The food is out of this world. They serve a Vitello Milanese the authentic Italian way with a side of spaghetti aioli. They also have a wonderful lobster dish. The prices are extremely reasonable here so it is no wonder the place is normally full. I highly recommend Il Bodello for a family event, as they accommodate large tables, a sweet date or just a dine alone place. You just can’t go wrong here.
A. T.
Great environment and a place I have eaten at several times over the past 10 years. The main food and desserts are fantastic.. Need to work on their starters.
S. C.
Very popular place. You'll see why when you get the food. Overdue a visit.
P. K.
I have entertained and dined with many people at this place, it is by far the best restaurant around, we come from the city to eat here as its so close food is excellent. Each dish is massive. Reasonable prices too.
S. W.
Been here a couple of times, and whilst the food is very wholesome and tasty, the attitude of management is pompous and unpleasant. Recently, I visited spontaneously and was rudely told they were full. No apology given, and no goodbye when we walked out.
A. P.
The food was good and it was not bad service, thank you! But unfortunately it was so loud that we couldn’t hear each other. I was disappointed.
J. B.
Big portions, very friendly, quick even though it completely filled up while we were waiting for our meals. We had a selection of tasty dishes from a wide-ranging menu and everyone left full.
S. B.
Nice food here. I enjoyed the clams linguine. The waiters didn't seem to be experts on digestivo though which is one of the highlights of an Italian meal.
T. K.
My favourite Italian restaurant in London. Traditional consistent quality Italian food, attentive and friendly staff, generous portions and reasonably priced.
C. A.
Delicious food and very welcoming and accommodating staff, huge portions. Highly recommend! Thank you for a great evening
M. H.
One of the best Italian restaurants in London. Fantastic staff and a wonderful menu. The sea scallops linguine is divine.
K. W.
A bustling Italian restaurant with smartly dressed waiters serving good house wine, massive pizzas and even more massive desserts! They told us no need to book on the phone, but we pretty much got the last table even on a Tuesday night.
C. P.
One of London's best Italian restaurants, it brings you to Italy with out taking a airplane. All the servers are old country italian, the food is terrific and the service matches it. Stick with the basics the cost is reasonable, go into the steaks and it can be costly.
S. C.
Great food but experience was ruined but a rude waiter. One of our friends ended up with an insect in her salad, so afraid I can't recommend this place wholeheartedly.
Y. D.
Been here a few times, and every time is a pleasure. Come hungry, and you will go back, wishing you had not eaten the day before. Portions are LARGE, food is finger licking good, just wish had a bit more space.
Love it.
S. B.
Excellent Italian cuisine...loved the thin crust hand made Italian style pizzas . Not very pricey..but getting a reservation is recommended as it gets crowded quickly and waiting times can be long
S. P.
In the words of Mauro Ranallo, "MAMMA MIA!".
Great Restaurant, service was amazing and friendly. Food was sublime and as the other reviews state, portions are very generous . Can get busy so if you plan on going with a large number of people I highly recommend you book in advance.
F. K.
Great Italian restaurant with wide selection available. Not the biggest place and very popular so can be a bit of a squeeze but its well worth it.
P. G.
Oily pasta and dry steak. This is not a very good restaurant for my taste. I wonder with these people eating there. Do they like oil so much?
A. W.
I work in a restaurant myself and as a professional, I can say that the food is lovely here. The menu has the huge variety a restaurant of a high class needs and everything on it is well-made. I've never been disappointed when I was eating here. However, there is room for improvement in the decoration of the place.
G. K.
Pizza is decent there. Very much London prices though
N. J. P.
Good service, although confused with our reservation slightly. Generous portions of great Italian food and a vast array of specials too!
Fresh, hot and gorgeous, can't beat this if it's a quick spot or if you want to indulge for longer
G. A. 3.

Lovely food. Excellent service. Recommended.

Great family-run Italian! The food is always amazing: good portions and quality. It's packed every time we return and for good reason.
J. C.
The best Italian restaurant in London! Such good food and very friendly staff!
m. r.
It was our 1st visit with friends who have been before. Not disappointed, good service & food all served at same time and with service charge very good value all round.
Will definitely go again.

To put the long story short: "MAMMA MIA"! I live by a walking distance and I feel so happy that I can go there regularly! GREAT food and lovely staff! Highly recommended!
J. H.
v. tasty, large portion sizes, decent prices
R. M.
Been coming to Il Bordello for god knows how many years and enjoy every single time. Vibrant busy atmosphere and superb Italian pasta and pizza. Recommended!

A. S.
Clearly a very popular restaurant. Always packed so ensure you make a booking. Portions are massive and reasonably priced. Will return.
A. G.

i. f.
Amazing food, fantastic service, great portions, friendly staff, book, it's very popular
A. S.
All that you should expect from italian cuisine and brilliant service.
C. L.
the best spaghetti aglio olio, and spaghetti vongole in East london.
the pizzas are very good too. best eaten within 30min though as they tend to go a bit soft.
the desserts are excellent - go for the profiteroles, tiramisu and the icecream.
waiters tend to be old slightly grumpy looking men but they are generally ok.
A. R.
Lovely food and lovely staff. Finally managed to get a table here tonight, and it was so worth it. Can’t wait to come back
A. S.
Food is really tasty, portions are very well served, the new place is beautiful however it was cold and the staff was quite rude.
K. H.
Excellent Italian food, big portions and lovely house dishes and specials. The Mussels Provençal were delicious. Highly recommended.
M. P.
Best pasta I've ever eaten...even better than Del Posto in Manhattan. I love this place and you will too. A fantastic pasta dinner with wine and it won't break the bank.

Really busy place. But well worth the wait. Food was amazing. Portions were more than generous.

D. H. M. E.
Great Italian restaurant with grumpy old waiters with depths of character and bundles of charm. The foods not bad ether.
I. L.
The food is very tasty in this place. But the noises from the kitchen and the people's working rhythm gives you a feeling of a fast food place. If you are after the Italian flavour that's your place, but don't expect to relax and enjoy your food, the environment won't allow it.
L. Z.
The best Italian restaurant I found so far :)
R. D.
I've tried quite a few Italian places in London and I have to say Il Bordello is definitely my number one! …
J. G.

M. Z.
A fixture of Wapping. Delicious Italian food at reasonable prices, great for a meal with mates or for a date. The monkfish is highly recommended.

Not as good as Il Bacino in respect of pizza. Can’t comment on other menu items. Staff are grumpy.
T. M.
Flawless, food atmosphere and service. The fact it’s so hard to get a table speaks volumes. Book early
M. C.
Great Italian place, staff is Italian and so the food :). Have some pan actors for desert, it is outstanding
