Reviews of OMBRA Bar & Restaurant
F. G.
Came for lunch and quite impressed with an authentic Italian restaurant in East London by the canal area. The starters were greatly tasted - scallops were refreshing and cuttlefish with Black ink sauce. The pastas were alright particularly the tonnarelle which taste like spaghetti. Freshly cooked! Each dish comes separately making a long lunch! Overall I think it’s nice place to eat in for sure for some authentic Italian dish.
C. S.
Fresh hand made pasta is out of this world! Every dish is carefully prepared with love.
Smoked eel was amazing! It’s one of my favourite dishes.
I loved Orange wine. It went well with mushroom pasta.
Tiramisu is SO good!
T. K.
The food was of very high quality and the service attentive and friendly. Would definitely come back to try more of their pasta! It wasn’t overly busy on Sunday (lunchtime) and there is decent spacing b/n tables. Relaxed vibe.
B. C.
Fantastic Saturday lunch here - we had the gnocco, artichoke and vongole to share. Everything was light and delicious. Perfect to soak up after a heavy Friday night! Good selection of aperitifs (not that easy to find Cynar in London) and amaros for dessert. Service was lovely. Faultless really!
A. R.
Amazing staff, really different and interesting food. Great natural wine selection in a beautiful setting. We had the tasting menu which was slightly on the expensive side but very impressive. Pasta and oysters were out of this world!

I have been to Ombra several time and I love the place. As I am originally Italian I go there when I miss proper well made food from my country. I find the prices a bit too high, especially after the lock downs, so I end up going only on special occasions. Wines are great too, you can feel free to ask for recommendation and suggestion. Recommended but be aware is quite pricey!
B. B.
I really don't get the current review score of Ombra. Their pasta is absolutely delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed their Pumpkin Ravioli. It's not cheap, but it's priced similarly to any other high end Italian restaurant in London and they do pasta better than most. Go out here for an occasion.
A. B.
Had an amazing dinner here back in May for my friend's 25th birthday, it was memorable in every way - the food, attentive service, and a truly impeccable birthday tiramisu! Will definitely be coming back, thank you Ombra!
N. V.
Did a 30th Birthday long lunch for a table of 10 with the set menu. Food was excellent. Vibe was lovely at the outdoor table/bench. Everyone enjoyed themselves and was very impressed. So pleased!! Thanks Ombra.
E. P.
We had our wedding at Ombra and had the best day we could have ever wished for. The food and booze and people who work there are incredible. They made our day insanely special and dealt with all 150 of us with joy, keeping us watered and fed all day and night. THANK YOU! Xxx
D. G.
Tasty food, nothing special though. Very solid average. Good desserts!
I did not catch the vibe of the place.
4 instead of 3 only because they have amazing wine list.
S. R.
I was at the restaurant this weekend for a friends wedding. We had an 8 course meal and every single element was perfect. Alongside this, the staff and the most helpful and friendly I have come across in a long time and we literally cannot wait to visit again soon
A. C.
Everyone that's part of Ombra contributes to making this one of my favorite restaurants in London. We went for the first time last night after walking by it on my daily commute, and it was completely outstanding from start to finish. From three types of spritzes to choose from, to the freshest pasta dishes and a variety of beautiful Italian creations in between, the food was bar none a perfect balance of quality, quantity, and timelessness and uniqueness. But then on top of the food being great, the staff was so sweet and accommodating! They really made the experience memorable and I can recommend everyone try this place at least once. See you again sooooon!!
D. L.
Our best friends celebrated their love here and it was incredible! Amazing food and so much fun and the staff was absolutely brilliant!!! We’ll definitely go back!
B. D.
Fun place for a 30th birthday celebration. Delicious Negronis, oysters and tiramisu. Lovely atmosphere, we had a great time.
A. S.
We had an amazing evening. The waiters - Massi and Charity - made the entire dining experience unforgettable. We will be back 4 shur!
R.
Great wine and food. Natural wine selection, really good range of wines. Even a couple.of orange wines.
Italian food, really good pastas and other bits.
Lovely friendly staff.
Worth a visit if you are in Hackney.
A. D.
Cozy and friendly atmosphere. Good selection of wines and spirits. Food is typical Italian, mainly from Veneto and central Italy. All pasta dishes are made fresh daily. Incredible combinations of flavours and ingredients. The fried artichoke is delicious. Nice interiors and also great deck outside overlooking the canal.
F. L.
Ombra is the Italian restaurant of my dreams - relaxed and unpretentious with a neighbourhood feel, but the food and wine are first rate. I can't wait to go back. Grazie
P. P.
I really enjoy treating myself to lunches here. £8 mains and £12 with a class of wine. Selection is limited but always freshly made with high quality ingredients. On a sunny day the outside space is great. And the coffee is also pretty good. Picture below in a pasta with tripe. Yes tripe! I only ordered it because I trusted their chef from previous visits and I wasn’t disappointed. So tasty!
M. B.
Our big group of x10ppl had a fab time! The restaurant took care of all our individual dietary needs including gluten free veggies & nut allergies! Thank you for a gorgeous time x
S. O.
I had dinner with my girlfriend. The food is delicious and the people very nice. It is not the usual fake Italian restaurant, they serve authentic Italian dishes impossible to find anywhere else in London. Maybe it was a bit expensive but was worth it.
G. C.
We had lunch few months ago. The food was incredible and service fun and friendly! We’ll be back!
U. B.
cicheti is a kind of tapas, finger food, typical of Venice.
zucchini flowers deep fried with anchovies inside was really really delicious. the burrata with peach was original and very tasty.
sarde in saor was a bit disappointing, I prefer it with smaller sardines (so that you can eat the bones as well) and with raisins on top of onions and pine nuts.
desserts were superb: buttermilk pannacotta and prunes had a great combination of sweet and sour taste. custard creme tarte was very good.
all in all a glorious dinner at a reasonable price.
it's also the best negroni sbagliato I erano in London.
C. D. G.
Really enjoyed the food and wine. We had a variety of dishes from the menu and they were all excellent. The staff were all polite and helpful and happy to provide good recommendations.
K. M.
Delicious, creative set menu - and not so expensive at £45pp. Small plates style like a tasting menu. All savoury dishes interesting and balanced. Desserts a bit underwhelming but nice. Fabulous service - so friendly and attentive.
A. B.
Punchy small plates with uncompromising flavours. The menu changes extremely regularly so I always recommend calling ahead on the day of your booking and seeing what the 'secondi' dishes of the day are.
My girlfriend wasn't that keen on either of the secondi options which soured our evening a little bit but the pasta dishes and starters we shared were bold.
My advice would be to ring ahead and see what's on the menu. We easily racked up a £90 between us so make sure the menu of the day is to your fancy!
Their negronis are well worth stopping in for too.
A. M.
I love Ombra. Good food, great staff, always different but consistent quality. Authentic, friendly, beautiful setting. Great value for money.
P. B.
Really lovely set menu, albeit we were both stuffed by the second desert. Food and wine both really good. A little bit of confusion around timing of tables (we booked for 9pm and didn’t sit down until almost half an hour later), but otherwise a really lovely evening. The outdoor space is nice and *most* of the tables have their own heater - but there are one or two that don’t and on the evening that we were there, it was cold enough that I wouldn’t have wanted an unheated table. Still - overall a very pleasant experience, really interesting food and a nice vibe. Would recommend.
A. O.
Great neighbourhood place. Top quality food with focus on Venetian specialities like veal liver, baccala, vongole pasta. All the pastas are made in house and are perfect! The wine list is not too long, but offers a great variety of natural wines from smaller artisan producers. Amaro selection for the digestivo is top notch too! Perfect both for a quiet lunch as well as dinner when it gets more buzzy.
L. B.
Had a wonderful large birthday dinner here- they were incredibly accommodating with everything. The food was amazing and all my friends were happy and very full at the end of the night. the negroni's are top and the so is wine selection. love Ombra, thanks for letting me turn 30 with you !
L. F.
Ombra is a great Italian restaurant in the heart of Hackney right on the canal. The service is great, staff are wonderful and the food is absolutely delicious! If you’re craving some fried seafood, definitely try the Fritto Misto, and don’t miss out on the tiramisu, huge portion and extremely delicious. Plus they are possibly the only Italian restaurant in London to serve carciofo alla giudia (Fried artichoke) one of Rome’s tastiest treats.
l. b.
Good ingredients and nices idea the dishes it self are disappointing most of the time... "very trying to plasure" service
C. H.
Lovely lunch at ombra the staff were excellent looking after us and our dogs very well.
A. K.
Really tasty food paired with lovely sunshine in the golden hour. Perfect for early dinner in the summer. We tried many things from the menu and none of them disappointed. The staff is friendly and very helpful in regards the selection of the menu. The prices are reasonable which makes a great spot to return and make it a neighbourhood favourite.
D. D.
Lovely place in a great location right next to the canal. Prices weren't too steep. Staff were helpful and recommended some tasty dishes and beverages, which were all delicious.
R. M.
Really nice place with lovely staff and good atmosphere. Don’t expect Michelin star levels of attention to detail, but they do great Italian food. All organic/natural wines like a lot of places in east London but some interesting Italian wines/grapes that you don’t see most elsewhere.
A.
I frequently eat out at all nice Italian restaurants and travel to Rome multiple times per year (just for the food) and I must say: today I tried this restaurant for the first time and it was absolutely incredible!
The tiramisu is exactly on point, and the cacio e pepe agnolotti were absolutely incredible!!! This is a something I would happily eat every day.
C. B.
I been in this place a few times but only for drinks however this time I tried their food with the "eat out to help out scheme" but unfortunately their portions are tiny!! I was so hungry after having 5 raviolis that I didn't think it was even worth with the 50% off. The bill was incorrect with extra charge so they had to change it and my friend had a small bowl of Salad for £6!
This place is ideal if you like to go for a coffee or drink but I wouldn't recommend the food!
Staff overall are friendly and very accommodating.
R. W.
It’s a lovely location and the staff were very nice. Unfortunately the food wasn’t great the evening I went. Still a nice spot for some drinks!
K. G.
Great service, great selection of freshly made dishes - couldn’t fault anything
J. B.
Delicious and creative food, very polite staff. I didn’t know what to expect and had a great surprise.
T. H.
Fresh homemade pasta daily, banging burrata, great Italian wines and gorgeous sauces. Order for collection, takeaway or pick up ingredients for home cooking. When restaurants open again you'll be able to grab a table outside in the sunshine overlooking the canal too.
S.
Great wine, food and ambiance. Anna is an amazing host and makes you feel so spoiled! Absolutely fantastic experience!
A. M.
Fantastic authentic Venetian food and drink. Was perfect spot to visit during London spring Bank Holiday heatwave! Best Aperol Spritz in town! Come for the drinks, stay for the perfect Fritto Misto.
M. R.
Ordered the Valentine's Day dinner. Beautifully executed, generous portions, appreciate that it was delivered a day early as there is enough food to feed us for most of the weekend! Highly recommend!
K. N.
Finally went here for the first time last night. Such a lovely vibe, friendly staff and incredible home-made pasta. I had the vegetarian ravioli with buffalo ricotta and wild garlic - oh my, I didn't want it to end and I had to restrain myself from licking the plate! We also had the tiramisu which was divine, my partner is from Italy and he said it could be the best he's ever tasted in his life. Highly recommend, good reasonably priced wines too :)
R. C.
I recently celebrated my 30th Birthday dinner at Ombra and it was a perfect evening. I called with less than a week until the big day and with a large booking of 16 guests. They managed to accommodate all of us, put together a bespoke set menu and tweaked it to fit to a wide rage of dietary requirements from my guest - vegan, gluten free, vegetarians etc. The food was delicious, innovative without loosing respect for Italian cousine and prepared with quality ingredients. Overall I think they offer great value for money. They even printed out individual menu's for each guest and provided a candle with my desert tiramisu. Our waitress was lovely and very thoughtful - providing us with soda water when I we had the "inevitable wine spillage". I also liked the rustic / down to earth, minimalist contemporary decor and the fact that you overlook the canal. If you are looking for a true Italian, that honours quality over substance Ombra is the place for you.
I. C.
Ombra is the best! I celebrated my birthday here in December and booked a table for 30. The staff were so accommodating both before the event and on the night. The food is delicious, as is the wine and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
K. B.
Tiramisu is amazing, so creamy and as good as in Italy. However, service is shambles lol. I mean, I don't think it's malice, but they can get things wrong at least a good 10 times, change their mind about something and same goes for their website as well. Don't put your hopes on someone answering the phone as well lol.
E. S.
Ombra used to be one of my favourite restaurants in London. It was so authentic, a fresh menu every night, somewhere I once took Italian friends who absolutely loved it. But no more. The new management / chef or whatever has happened have removed the authentic adventurous dishes that used to be available, the prices have gone up, and the quality of food is just not there anymore. Devastating!
J. M.
Had a delicious fritto misto at lunch and a refreshing Spritz Campari as an aperitivo. Staff was welcoming. Would definitely go back!

UPDATE FROM JUNE 2021 -
Had a lovely time last Saturday reuniting with my friends. Wish we could’ve sat on the big console platform area but probably would have fallen off after 72625191 bottles of that lovely montipulciano rose. Can’t really remember the food because I was so drunk but I honestly love this place so much.
Always great service I really like the servers here ! And the food is so good the only problem is I eat it too fast LOL
J. J.
Such a friendly relaxed place, sunny terrace and good quality, honest food at a surprisingly good price. We had the lunch deal, pasta with a glass of wine for £12. Big bowl of homemade pasta with good wine, well it doesn't get much better. Also the tiramisu is a must. Can't wait to go back for dinner.
B. M.
I like the atmosphere, people are really nice and the staff is relaxed. Don't expect silver service, but it is laid-back and easy going. The food is simple and honest: I love the pasta dishes, especially the super simple ones, like tomato sauce and basil. Perfect place for spritz and aperitivo! Can get really crowded and loud. (not a good place for quiet evenings) Booking essential at the weekend!
C. G.
The stars go to the waiters Manuel and Fracesca (they were super friendly) and the nice atmosphere in general. The food was a total let down. Small portions, overcooked pasta and overpriced everything. I would only go back for a glass of wine.
A. M.
Real neighbourhood treasure, relaxed friendly service with excellent ever changing menu and great lock down deli pivot with fresh pasta and wine to enjoy at home. Can't wait to go back!
S. S.
My favourite local. The food I've had has always been excellent. The drink selection is large and interesting. It can take a while to order sometimes but chill out, let the waiters do their job, and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere.
S. R.
Food is great, outside area is great. Staff is a bit slow/cold.
S. R.
Can’t say enough positive things about this place. Great food, delicious wine, friendly staff. The house wine from the tap is a staple of ours as well as the gnocco fritto and tiramisu. They served an amazing egg yolk raviolo in New Years Eve that was out of the world!
L. O.
Initially we just step by this place just to get a beer.. then we decided with other friends to have food.. and it was amazing! We order some tagliolini with porcini and they were super tasty! The bread was also super crusty and soft.. but the best part was the sicilian octopus!! I’m sicilian and i can say tha this was the best octopus that i ever had in London! If you are looking for a cozy place in East London with good italian food this is the right place for you!! And also the service was amazing, the waitress Manuel was so attentive and kind!! I really recommend this place :D
D. M.
Ombra is a great local Northern Italian restaurant, now pastifico. They have the best pasta and fresh produce in London. Lovely desserts, wine, antipasti oh and the best negroni pre mix !! Could eat their food everyday, plus they are a lovely bunch too :)
A. V.
The quality of the food is clearly very high, but the portions were ridiculously small. The fast talking waitress recommended the same dish for my friend who is vegetarian and myself as a meat eater. After my friend expressed he is starving, she didn’t bother letting us know that the main dish consists of roughly 10 pieces of agnolotti. The tiramisu was great, but after the dinner we had to buy some food at the convenience store nearby. Exceptional taste, which pulls up the whole experience to a three star, otherwise it would be 0.01.
A. G.
I was positively surprised by the change of management. I used to come here years ago and I found back the same happy atmosphere, but with an higher quality food and wine. An Italian menu based on a seasonal choice of ingredients accompanied by delicious organic wines. Perfect to start with an aperol spritz along the canal!
G. R.
We dined at Ombra while visiting friends in London and had a superb experience! We used to live in the neighbourhood but never tried Ombra before. We heard that there was a new chef at the helm of the kitchen so we've decided to give it ago. First of all the interior is much more charming and welcoming than before with more suitable and comfortable furniture and beautiful and tasteful art on the walls, the whole dining room is also lit by a lovely natural light all through the day. The wine list offers you both the unusual labels and also some more traditional wine creating the perfect balance and satisfying all the different crowds.
What the kitchen can create from that little space is exceptional. Seasonality is the king here. The menu is perfectly balanced and well thought, giving you the chance to start your meal with small bites (cicchetti) moving then down the menu where you can find delicious starters, mains and pasta dishes. We had pretty much the whole menu and the beautiful ceramic plates were sent back wiped clean.
In an era where cities like London are littered with tasteless restaurants is utterly refreshing to find a gem like Ombra.
V. F.
Great Staff, Great Food, Great Wine. The picture says it all = AMAZING! Well Done Mitsh :)
L. G.
We always have such a fabulous time at Ombra. This comes down to the excellent food, great choice of wine, exceptionally friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.
Since our wedding reception/lunch back in May, we have been back on a number of occasions and we have never been disappointed.
Most recently a group of us attended a pasta making class there. It was so much fun, we learnt how to make various types of pasta, which can be made at home with a small pasta maker too, so it's all transferable skills, and at the end we ate what we had made. It was a fantastic evening and such a fun thing to do with friends.
I can't recommend this place enough, it's one of my favourite restaurants in London.
G. C.
Fantastic little Italian with nice wine and Spritz', and delicious Venetian food. A real find.
Read some reviews that were critical but came away feeling overwhelmingly positive. Great vibes, great food, great wine, great value.
E. B.
was a bit worried as there are mixed reviews on here - but after the great lunch i had on sunday i am very confused by how can ombra be seen as a pricey restaurant. their pasta is made freshly on site everyday, they cicchetti & antipasti are cleverly thoughts and super fresh, the tiramisu is the best one i had in very long time. their wine offering is very dynamic and i am sure of a couple of places on hackney rd (around the corner) that charge a few quid more for the sames wines
the service is great too - glad to have finally found a decent autentic italian gem in london
will be back soon xxxx
M. H.
It's a gorgeous place for a late night romantic dinner. Super cosy, next to water with a very dim lit vibe. Food is expensive, but you can taste the freshness and quality of ingredients. Wine selection seems great. Service was also extremely friendly.
N.
Visited Ombra with a few flat mates and I have to say they have a great friendly/family atmosphere, with some classic Italian dishes that I much enjoyed. What I enjoyed even more was that I got more food on my plate than I anticipated which is always a plus. Overall amazing experience.
F. A.
The staff are nice. But two waitresses for a Friday night was exhausting to watch - the poor women ran around nonstop.
Only had desert and drinks - the vermouth was good but would have preferred more of it. Nice to look at the canal, would go back at a quieter time for a drink.
H. J.
I booked a table for my parents and brother and girlfriend last night and we were all very impressed. The atmosphere was great with impeccable service and a well thought out and focused menu of delicious food. I highly recommend the oysters, spider crab and the gnocchi with the ragu. The wine was delicious and topped off with a scrummy arancello. I will be back to this lovely local restaurant as soon as possible. Thanks Ombra!
M. P.
Fantastic Saturday afternoon dining at Ombra as 30 of us celebrated Adam and Cecilia`s wedding on 21st Sep 2019. Delicious dishes, great service and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended! Made a special day even more memorable.
E. C.
This was my first experience of natural wines - I can see their allure. Paired with the food, it was a really special treat. The squid ink pasta and that young gongonzola with salsify were mind-blowing. Pricey for me, but hey, I don't get out much.
D. L.
Overall a mixed bag. We had prawn heads, arancini, salt baked celeriac, tagliolini and raviolo between 2 people. This came to around £80 including drinks. It's a nice restaurant with good service but not all of the dishes were successful in our opinion - salt baked celeriac had a big mound of ricotta underneath (almost too much) and the celeriac slithers tasted like raw slices of celeriac - no hint of anything being salt baked. Prawn heads not quite worth £4 each as the shell not quite cooked enough to be eaten as is. You get one egg yolk raviolo for £11,so we expected it to be great, but the grated truffle was rather tasteless and looked a bit soggy. The shrimp tagliolini however was perfectly made, perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Would recommend a visit for pasta dishes but not for the egg yolk ravilolo sadly.
N. D.
Great service and food. Excellent Negronis. Staff all very friendly and welcoming. Loved the atmosphere 😊 will deffo be back soon
M. B.
Pity it was last orders as we arrived but enough time for a really nice Pils. It was probably the end of along shift but the staff we not as polite as they night have been.
Why do these places have the only Menus hidden behind QR codes? It's just a faff.
J. L.
There was a lot to like about Ombra. The octopus was some of the best I’ve ever had, and the burrata was also lovely. Pasta was nice, but the monkfish was a little dry unfortunately which was disappointing. Overall a good meal with a nice atmosphere.
M. T.
All pasta dish were so good! And staff was very kind!
J.
I stopped of here while passing through the area. Fantastic find.
Comfortable atmosphere, friendly waiter and best of all simple food with quality ingredients making for a fantastic culinary experience.
Will be back for sure when next in the area.
J. H.
Always very happy to find restaurants in London focusing on a specific regional cuisine in Italy rather than serving a generic mix of Italian food. There are hints reminiscent of Venice in terms of little things like the paper they print the menus on, but the food for me at least wasn't very obviously Venetian (maybe because I went for the vegetarian options) - burrata followed by tagliatelle with girolles. Both were good, just not very obviously Venetian. The drinks perhaps had more of a Venetian feel, with some wines from the Veneto, and they had Aperitivo Select to make spritzes with - this is kind of a secret most tourists going to Venice don't know about when ordering a spritz, and this is the first time I've seen it in a bar or restaurant in London.
T. W.
Ombra is a rare find. Amazing homemade pasta, beautiful seafood, tasty little share dishes and great wine! It's a very reasonable price point and the staff are friendly and obliging. Highly recommend!
M. V. F.
This is one of the best place I'd ever happen to find myself into. The atsmosphere is relaxed and happy, the wine selection fantastic and the food just divine! I highly recommend the bigoli with clams and chilly, a signature dish in my opinion. If you're looking for a place to have a wonderful meal and a great time this is where you want to be. Ombra see you soon.
M. S.
As a Venetian, this is my favourite coffee place in the area. I haven't tried the food, but the coffee is great, and so is the service. The atmosphere is that of an authentic Venetian "bacaro"!
L. F.
The staff is very friendly and the food is well served. The quality of food is high. Keep in mind it all depends of your expectations: don’t visit this place if you think you’ll leave with a full tummy. It can be pricey for the amount of food but the quality is very high.
j. m.
Tonight's meal was sublime. Delicious meaty braised octopus, bright peach and bean salad, and crispy chorus of calamari. Best kitchen in east London.
Y. F.
Brilliant atmosphere and the drinks were so expertly made we just had have 2 instead of the one planned. The staff are so polite, friendly and engaging. The bedt aperol and espresso martini in London.
A. L.
Playful, creative fresh pasta made by hand daily with exceptional ingredients. The best pasta dishes are those you've never heard of. Open your mind and let yourself be led by what's good on the day.
S. D.
Very cool little restaurant/bar with bright Formica furniture and a Venetian slant to the food. The little dishes coming past us looked great, but we were just there for an aperatif; and so nice to see a neighbourhood restaurant doing Aperol spritzs and great Negronis for £6 each. Lovely atmosphere, very relaxed, and plenty of flyers for local gigs/arty activities.
S. B.
I had a great pasta dish there followed by a perfect tirimasu. excellent italian cooking in a relaxed setting at prices that don't break the bank. washed down well with a campari spritz.
J. J.
Amazing meal at Ombra with my family. Food was outstanding, pasta expertly made and the Tiramisu was easily the best I have eaten. Will be back for sure.
E. T.
New Chef, Mitshel is killing it. No better lunch deal or tastier pasta then you will find here. All fresh, perfectly cooked and beautifully sauced. And they have a terrace with Chinotto and fun, natural wine in the fridge. Boom!
K. B.
Good local place for when you don't feel like cooking, but want some home-made food. Bigoli al ragu is always on the menu and provides a nice comfort meal.
Overall a very nice, chilled, no nonsense place.
R. J.
I came here for a Sunday late lunch and had a religious experience. The food was heavenly, the wine selection was great and the atmosphere and service so friendly and cosy. Amazing place.
t. a.
Great place! The food is outstanding and the staff really friendly. Nothing's better than a sunny day, good company, a good glass of wine and a home-made dish of bigoli.
H. G.
Food was amazing, service was fantastic, lovely atmosphere!
L. K.
The pasta is divine but other dishes were a bit hit and miss; an octopus dish was undercooked. Service was charming bit a bit chaotic; a chichetti was not delivered until main course.
J. N.
Lovely staff, service was ok but the food I thought wasn’t the best. Food came out too slowly for our liking but the tiramisu was amazing!
S. v. R.
Fresh pasta made daily and always aldente! pasta and a drink for £10 on their weekday lunch menu this fromienskybplace is a slice of Italy dropped into East London an outdoor deck makes cocktails in the Summer a pleasure If you love Italy you will adore OMBRA Enjoy!
A. K.
Simply the best atmosphere food and hospitality in London. Happy that to be their neighbor and provide continued support.
I. G.
This restaurant is extremely popular, and with good reason. The service, food and atmosphere are all almost perfect. Great Italian food at good prices, for London.
N. S.
Nice food, the white truffles risotto and the calamari were very well made. The tiramisu was just ok. Good service.
M. I.
Amazing spritz, even more amazing food and great vibe! Staff is charming and there's a real Italian feel to it. Totally recommended x

“Ombra” literally means ‘shadow’ in Italian, but actually in the North-East and the greater Venice area it means ‘a glass of wine‘. ‘Bevemose n’ombra’ (let’s have a drink) was the starting gun of any given evening on those happy student days. Sitting close to the Hackney canal, with a spritz or a glass of wine, picking from a small dish of baccala’ mantecato or a cold cuts platter at Ombra makes me feel just happy.
I think Ombra gets its charm from the blend of nonchalant Hackney cool and Italian warmth, and its minor flaws and rough edges just add to it rather than breaking the spell. If all you know about Venice cuisine are Zizzi’s chichetti, please hurry to ombra for some real rustic Italian fare, great drinks and a killer atmosphere.

Amazing food and great atmosphere

Lovely little italian tapas place. The food was excellent and there was a large wine selection. Great for a catch up over a bite to eat.

(Translated) Quality Italian food. The only drawback would be that the menu is somewhat reduced, that is, that there are few options that change periodically. However, all the dishes we ordered were impressive. Without a doubt I would repeat and recommend it to all those who like Italian food and do not have many problems adapting to a menu with few options, but at the same time delicious.
I recommend those who do not like spicy to ask what dishes they should not order. I ordered a plate of spicy pasta and they really took the spicy thing seriously, it was delicious but it was very spicy.

(Translated) Despite not being very central, it is an excellent Italian place, where you can eat very well (the raw materials come from Italy, and you can feel it). The atmosphere is very relaxed, and on Sunday there is live music. The managers are also very nice and easygoing. Recommended for an aperitif, but also for a dinner. 10 minutes on foot from the red line, if it does.
(Original)

(Translated) A true corner of Italy in London. Homemade pasta, Spritz as an aperitif and excellent wines. The menu changes frequently, so it's worth more than one visit. In short, if you want (rightly) to stay away from pseudo-Italian restaurants is the place you are looking for.
(Original)
Un vero angolo di Italia a Londra. Pasta fatta in casa, Spritz come aperitivo e ottimi vini. Il menù cambia di frequente, quindi merita più di una visita. Insomma, se volete (giustamente) stare alla larga dai ristoranti pseudo-italiani è il posto che state cercando.

(Translated) Ombra is one of Hackney's little jewels, especially for us Italians. The portions are not as generous as in typical Italian trattorias, but the ingredients are sought after and of the highest quality. A few months ago they also had musicians on Sundays who made Italian music ... beautiful!
Give it a try !!!

(Translated) Reasonable. We ordered the dish that comes with several fish, but I didn't particularly like it. Nothing in particular, but I was expecting more from the dish for the dish wue if you pay. I prefer a whole fish on the grill than the way it came. Perhaps the other dishes are more attractive. But I don't know if I came back.
(Original)

(Translated) Good food, but it got a little mess with the order. We were a bunch of 6 people who ended up with very good food, but not quite the food we had ordered. We chose to eat rather than point out the mistake since it took so long to get the food.
