Reviews of The Auld Shillelagh

Great cosy place , very welcoming. Good atmosphere and nice and warm inside with a large outdoor area. Quite narrow but very long and gives a good sense of a nice proper Irish pub with cosy stools and small tables. Solid pint of Guinness aswell, can't fault it.

The staff are just the nicest people. Small place so gets a little tight but they have a garden too so nice for the warmer weather.
Some of the best Guinness in London. It was really nice. They don't serve food but allow you to bring or order it from elsewhere.

Great London Irish boozer with helpful and heart warming staff. I was served by a respectfully older lady who let me bring my bike into the pub while I soaked back a pint of the Black. Great Guinness!

Puts all the other pubs in the area to shame. Top Guinness, top craic.

The Best place to be on St Patrick’s day! Amazing Guinness, music and staff! The best pub in London by a mile

An Irish mate of mine recommended this pub saying that it has the best Guinness in London. It was really nice. Very friendly staff. The only downside(or upside depends on how you view it) is that they don't serve food but they allow you to bring or order it from elsewhere.

❤️ As you walk down Church Street in Stoke Newington you’ll come across this little gem of a pub but blink and you’ll miss it. The Auld Shillelagh must have one of the smallest facades of any pub in London. Once you step through the door you then see that the pub is quite long and thin and stretches back someway and leads to a courtyard garden at the back. I visited on a Saturday afternoon not long after the pubs reopened after lockdown and it was very quiet, but if you want to get the full experience I would suggest visiting after 6pm when the place kicks in to life. I received a warm welcome from the two girls on duty who told me about the table service and covid measures. This boozer has all the trappings you would expect of a decent Irish pub, live music, GAA and plenty of sports on the telly. The one true measures of any Irish hostelry is how decent the black stuff is, I myself didn’t have a Guinness as I’m a lager heathen but many other pub reviewers have stated that the Guinness is top notch here.
.
The pub has it’s own strap line which is “off the leash and on the lash” which is great calling for punters to visit. I was brought up in Irish pub life through my childhood in the 70’s and 80’s and visiting Irish pubs brings back a lot of nice memories. Pubs have changed in many ways over the years with some great new ideas coming through and some pubs using gimmicks to get you in the door A genuine Irish boozer needs none of that because “ if it ain’t feckin broke, don’t feckin fix it”.
