Reviews of The Bird in Hand

Was there for a few drinks and had to tell, all the hosts were amazing. Ned especially is great and Ed especially is a great bartender.
S. C.
Lovely cozy place with decent food. The portion of the small dishes were a little small but yums. The pizza was a hit with my party! They also have an upstairs area for private hire - was there for a friend's hen do last year and it was great!
K. P.
Food and service was amazing!! Callum was a great host. Thank you!
I. H.
Great atmosphere, lovely decor, delicious food and wine. A simply excellent gastro pub!
P. M.
Excellent local pub with friendly staff and a warm atmosphere. Haven't eaten there yet but always seems popular with lacals and the menu looks very appealing
M. M.
Nice wine but cold food, pretty basic, battered prawns were overly greasy, chipolate's basic, the mains of cheek were tasty but cold, desert was not worth it! shame as was recommended as a very great spot to eat
F. O. u.
There's no nicer chill spot when the sun is shining, my first time here recommended by my friend , really friendly staff very welcome, lovely white wine, beautiful decor, great for spending time with beautiful company, food taste very freshly made. Prices are fair for the experience.
Nice jazz music for a relaxed ambience.
Great spot for the locals highly recommend.

popped here on Saint Paddies day to have a pint and a pizza. It was predominantly families with small kids at the time of visiting - but still quiet and comfortable. The Guinness was good as expected - but the pizza didn't quite hit the spot. The crust was very hard - like the oven pizza you get from Tesco and the toppings I fear were from the same place. Peeking around it appeared that the other dishes were a bit more appetising though.
M. D.
There's Grace and Oriana's the best. Grace is awesome went out of her way to give me two options of merlot wine. The order the steak twice because it was so good and delicious. Again the ambiance was good because people actually talk to each other. This neighborhood is high end and the bottle of wine was fabulous. I'm definitely going back their food's delicious and everyone was courteous.

Excellent pub, nice food and wonderful friendly staff, who you can have a laugh with....10 outta 10 and highly recommend to anyone visiting London. 👊👊👊👊
E. R.
Really nice staff. Great pizzas. Amazing atmosphere
S. M. S.
Super service and lovely atmosphere in this cute corner pub/ restaurant.
T. C.
Beautiful building and lovely place to sit outside. Pizza was good, if a little expensive. Narrow selection of beers/IPAs let it down slightly, but otherwise will return.
G. R.
Crunchy, scrumptious pizza dough! Probably personal taste, but this is my favourite kind!
Dog friendly as well
M. N.
The bird in hand is a very nice pub with a good atmosphere.
Food is very good, from the tapas to the backed pizza, all very nice.
Good choice of wine, smaller choice for beers.
The staff is very nice, but I would recommend to pay more attention to the table cleaning.
R. A.
Lovely to be back.
Great staff and food
B. S.
Loved my first visit. Second visit was on a Monday evening. Service was a tad slow but Pizzas came out cold with some being sent back for reheating. Toppings were also rather sparing given the price. Pizzas tasted great and the base was lovely. Just needs a bit more care and attention to justify the price...and a few more waiting staff.
C. C. J.
Amazing pizza. Just hit the spot. Pizza base was thin crispy and the best I've had in a very long time. Staff were helpful, accommodating and extremely covid aware. Cant wait to come back and try the small plates. Would definitely recommend.
F. R.
Lovely upmarket gastropub/restaurant with lovely staff and a great menu that changes pretty frequently.
J. C.
This restaurant was right down the street from our AirBnB and it was wonderful. It is cozy and the staff was wonderful. Great individual pizzas (thin crust) with fresh toppings and delicious drinks. It was family friendly for lunch and dinner. There was a huge local crowd around happy hour (always a good sign). I would definitely stop by if you are in the area.
S. J.
We visit regularly, my favourite pizza is the zucchini - it is (was) delicious. Unfortunately over the last few months we've noticed the quality slip. The toppings are now added sparingly and the pizzas have considerably shrunk in size; of course the price has remained the same! I do hope you can sort this out to maintain loyal customers!
R. L.
This place has rocketed up my list of favourite places. Based on where it's located, and from the outside, you'd think it was your standard pub. Step inside and you're treated to this fantastic, cozy, Italian restaurant with a great menu. Awesome for sharing plates and small groups. They don't take reservations for dinner so come early and leave happy! Try the pizzas, they're amazing, in particular the Siccilia which includes truffle paste. I'm salivating thinking about it just now.
E. E.
Love this place! I go there ever once in a while, and even tho I've never made a reservation, there's always a place to sit even if it takes a beer time . The location is very good, quiet and peaceful area , the ambience is genuinely great 👍 cozy and makes you feel like home! Staff are very friendly and quick and you can always meet nice people there. And the food - everything is so delicious you can't get enough! I recommend the Mediterranean pizza, although they don't always have it in the menu and all the starters are addictive ❤️ So far lovely experience every time I visit!
O. L.
We really love the atmosphere and food at the bird in hand - the pizza really is brilliant! The truffle pizza is the nicest I have had in London. However the last couple of times I have been really disappointed at the service, it can be unbelievably slow when busy and with no attention paid considering the price point. It’s a shame because it’s a great place to bring friends for good food but waiting an hour+ for food and no offer of even water or a desert menu is pretty bad.
C. A.
We ate light dinner here and had a few drinks. I like the atmosphere, cosy and quiet. Staff minds their own business but made sure to assist and comply with the customer's requests.
d. d.
Possibly one of the nicest pubs (if you can really call it that; in all honesty it’s a great restaurant masquerading as a pub) in West London...
It’s the pizza here that’s draws us almost every other week... possibly some of the better pizza I’ve had ( compares well with Roma)...
The staff are great; always cheerful and super helpful... This is kind of place that can quickly become a go to simply because it always delivers great food and a great experience...
T. B.
Their pizza is superb! Thin crust with deliciously melted toppings - reminded me of the tastiest pizzas I’ve had in Italy. Will be back for more.
M. “. P.
The place has been refurbished to top standards and it has a pleasing atmosphere, with soft lights and without loud banging music, giving you the ability to have a conversation.
The food unfortunately is not up to the expectations. Starter and desserts are quite good. The main courses were a bit disappointing, with a seafood stew with too much salt covering the taste of the seafood and a pizza with the "wrong" dough (even though the ingredients are fresh and indeed good).
The selection of wines is really good, at least the few I've tried.
S. C.
Pizzas were lukewarm with a frugal amount of toppings for £14. Somehow my drink cost a different price every time I ordered it. Has a nice ambience but too pricey for the actual food and drink.
G. K.
Very nicely refurbished (trendy but with a bit of character) and very good food. Good selection of Italian inspired tapas-sized dishes using seasonal ingredients and the pizzas are fantastic. Decent wine list but should add a couple more draught beers.
A. T.
great, new local place for a weekday dinner. service quality needs some work. food can take a long time to show up and seating policy can be confusing. love the starters and mains. pizza is average. we go pretty regularly so despite the quirks (which i hope they will work on), it's a wonderful addition to the area.
J. G.
Great hidden place between Hammermsith and Shepherd's Bush. Great place to have pizza that is above a Pizza Express.
Had the Diavola and it was exactly what you would expect and a bit more. Flavour were good and the dough has spot on.
C. S.
This is my number one pub in London! My wife and I had our wedding dinner on the top floor. If you have the chance to visit this pub make sure you have the croquettes as a starter followed with the truffle pizza. The menu card changes from time to time and it's really Michelin Star food if you would ask me! Love this pub and the friendly staff.
P. H.
The Bird In Hand used to be the best pub in the area. Unfortunately it shut down and has now been converted into an Italian restaurant.
The food is fine but slightly overpriced for the quality. The service isn't brilliant with one recent visit ending with us being told they were still serving food, being seated and having a drinks order taken before the guy returned to say "Oh actually the kitchen is closed, do you still want the drinks?"
Overall they've bought what was a great community pub and turned it into something completely different which the area doesn't really need. I'd rather have the pub back to be honest...
J. L.
The best pizzas in London, thin and crispy. We were told that the chefs have a a secret recipe. The place it's a little bit hidden in a residential street but it's super worthwhile coming. Can be very crowded on weekend evenings. I edit my review to say that i went again last Friday at 21:05 asked for a table for 2 and i was told that i could not be given a table as the wait would be more than 1hour and the kitchen closes at 22pm. All tables were taken, only a few people in the bar but i didn't see anyone waiting for a table like other days... I just spent my money somewhere else.
K.
It was my first time in this gastro pub. Genuinely enjoyed the music and interior solutions in place. Kind of creates atmosphere you want to escape to enjoy some good food and wine. However, I was put off by service and the quality of food. Suggest to ask people if they accept to add gratuity percentage to the bill rather just adding it. 2/5
R. W.
Disappointing experience this time. Service was slow, pricing of some of the small dishes was expensive for the quality which was hit and miss. Raspberries with mackerel was bizarre and didn't work as a dish. However, the fennel sausage was excellent and the candlelit interior is lovely.
K. P.
Nice ambience, a bit loud at times, but very enjoyable experience. We ate dinner at the bar as there were no tables, but it was very comfortable. Podrano peppers as appetizer were exactly as they should be. Heirloom tomato salad had a light dressing and lots of fresh basil, but the heirlooms were of one variety only, not picked at their peak of ripeness, and were a disappointment. The beef shin ragu was excellent with fresh home-made spinach pasta cooked to al dente, fresh peas, shaved parmesan. We had a red pepper pizza (piccante pizza) that was very good, the crust thin, light, and crunchy at the edges. The tomato sauce was a tiny bit sweet, but with the gorgonzola, a perfect balance. Our bartender/waiter Victor was friendly, attentive, and added to the enjoyable evening. Very reasonable price, too. Recommend to anyone in the area.
I. Y.
Nice place to meet good old friends and make some new ones.Very tasty with nice service and huge wine’s selection
C. D.
Had dinner and drinks with a group of friends. Food was gorgeous and wine list was extensive. But the staff and service was one to rave about! Definitely recommend it and will be back soon! Thank you!!
T. H.
We were disappointed when our favorite local boozer closed and re-opened as an Italian gastro pub but, as it turns out, this was a change for the better.
The food is truly excellent and belies the modest cost of around £40 per head for 3 courses with wine. The menu changes frequently and aside from the standard Italian fare of pizza's and pastas there is a range of slightly more exotic dishes, e.g.steaks, lemon sole, rabbit etc, all with an Italian twist. As far as I've seen everything is fresh and home-made and they have a good selection of wines to match.
Much like the food, the decor and atmosphere are uncomplicated and non-pretentious and the service is attentive and efficient. While much of the seating is reserved for dining (at least during busy times) there are stools at the bar and seating outside where you can just have a drink or two without feeling out of place.
Overall a good place for food, or drinks, or both.
h. r. (.
Very warm and welcoming, loveley food, good value for money, child and dog friendly
T. S.
Really poor food, Burnt and cold pizza, charmless staff.
H. P. N.
My absolute favourite restaurant in London! Although I moved to a different city a few months ago, I still love to come back every now and then. Still dreaming about their Salsiccia truffle pizza ... it is out of this world!
B. Y.
M first time here recommended by my friend , really friendly staff very welcome, lovely white wine.
M. A.
Great local pub, great food too!
M. M.
This and the Havelock tavern down the road are my two favourite pubs. This one for amazing pizzas and a more informal gathering for drinks, while the other has your traditional Sunday roast and gastronomic dining experience.
S. H.
Great local pub. Friendly staff, big projector sports screen and pub quiz. Had a delicious carbonara tonight so decided to review. Very good size portion too. They even gave me a plate with my girlfriend's dinner on it as she was working late so I could carry it to hers. It's that attitude that makes a great local.
M. B.
Great little find while wondering. Food is fantastic and is perfect if your just looking to graze while drinking. Friendly staff and generally a nice atmosphere. Would recommend and will definitely be returning when in the area again.
S. L.
A gastropub in the quiet streets of Kensington and you're already on to a winner. The quality of the food is exceptional and the wine list not bad either. Great for British dishes with a twist and the pizzas are definitely a must. Would fully recommend!
O. A.
Nice local restaurant . great atmosphere and great pizza . Service needs to be better. Ordered appetizer and was forgotten. The pale ale tasted water down. Otherwise enjoy the pizza and atmosphere.
R. H.
What a find thanks to Google maps! Lovely setting, service, and menu... Amazing Tapas and seriously tasty pizzas... Me and two kids loved it.... Highly recommended.
M. G.
We used to come here a lot - the atmosphere is still cheerful and the staff friendly but the place has lost its mojo. The food was average and we couldn't even eat the dessert. The wine was warm, we had to splash some ice cubes in it. Maybe Chef's on Summer break?
V. B.
It is a really nice residencial restaurant -bar! The food is nice, the service is good and prices are good. If you want to have a casual nice evening it is a good place however it is important to know that the restaurant can be very packed after 7:00 pm Fridays and Saturdays and it is very complicated to find a table.
A. T. (. A.
Just arrived into London from Australia & needed some awesome food for dinner. Hotel recommended this place & it definitely didn't disappoint. Had a mixture of share plates & pizza & they all tasted devine!
N. L.
This is an interesting place with a lovely decoration completing the fine dining atmosphere. The Italian food is perfectly made and the wide variety in the menu is admirable. Pasta is great here and I recommend it.
A. J.
great gastro pub in the hood. amazing pizza and friendly staff. perhaps it lacks a bit of variaty in the menu (both drinks and food). other than that 100% recommended
D. M.
Very cost local pub. Great food and service.
K. S.
Good food, especially the monkfish
F. A.
Amazing pizzas! didnt try the other items on the menu but my friends said the mussels and salads were good too. Nice atmosphere
W. K.
This place is unreal. Forget Franco manca this place blows them out of the park. Infact after eating at the bird in hand I’d put Franco manca in the same league as Dominos. Staff were amazing and the Pizza is the ONE. Will defo be heading back. Keep up the good work. Xx
B. K.
The absolute perfect find on a short stay - round the corner, local (ie. not a chain) and just gorgeous. Great ambience, better food and really friendly staff. Orange and rhubarb posset was a true highlight!
P. T.
I've had dinner there yesterday and really enjoyed it. Friendly waiter, very good small plates and pizza, very nice French Malbec.
There's a very nice atmosphere.
N. G.
Great meal booked at the last minute
S. D.
I’ve never been Shepherd’s Bush’s biggest fan, but one thing is does have in spades in nice pubs although I guess regulars would debate whether this is in the ‘Bush or not. Can any locals solve the mystery? Either way, it’s a cool, relaxed little local on the back streets but only a five minute walk from the tube and Westfield.
Drinks are decent (small glasses of wine are only £2.95 too) but you come for the food – we got 5 small plates for £10. This included; squid tempura, shoestring fries, tomato salad, palma ham and a huge green salad. Easily enough for two hungry people.
E. B.
Food is always good. Very busy and not possible to book- staff sometimes struggle when it’s busy and it gets very slow. Recommend the basilico pizza
N. P.
Great gastro-pub with a refined taste. Tapas style italian restaurant, with a very god wine selection and amazing desserts for those with a sweet-tooth.
I was in 9th Cloud.
N. J.
Absolutely fantastic! Top notch food, service and atmosphere. The queue of people wanting to eat there on a Thursday night says it all. A real gem.
J. M.
Very good yet pricey pizzas. Could use with a few more beers on tap. Reasonable wine selection though
P. F.
Super local place- a gem in Sheperds Bush. Great italian pizza! The terrace is cute and so is the inside.
A. 7.
I love this place! Staff are very nice and I love the food, personally I would get one of their pizzas which reminds me that the food is amazing and cheap.
G. U.
Definitely a place where any friendly approach from staff is only on offer if your face and wallet fit. Only "real" ale is the predictable Doom Bar at 4.20 a pint. Come here for apparently good food, over-priced wines, and to ask fellow drinkers "So what do you do?" before you've talked about how brilliant David Cameron is.
E. K.
A good selection of starters, very well trained staff. We enjoyed the pizza and wine that our waiter recommended.
D. E.
One of my favourite pubs in London. I live in Bow, in East London and occasionally trek all the way here to visit. That's how good it is. If you live the in the area, I'm very jealous.
j. f.
A local wine bar that has amazing tapas food, especially their thin style pizza. Cosy and not a pub vibe. Amazing for a sunny sunday.
A. R.
Limited menu options. Listed as Italian restaurant but doesn't have any pastas as main dishes. A bit overvalued in my opinion. 😒
C. C. G.
I've never eaten here, but living just down the road it's a great pub for drinks, really good atmosphere and a great outdoors section!
A. C.
Stopped in on our holiday as this was down the street from our Airbnb. Nice atmosphere and great pizzas in a quiet neighbourhood setting.
M. C.
Very popular with the locals. Hellingly expensive food for a boozer, but you may have a small wait at the bar for a table most nights. Staff are helpful and food is good if you like pizza.
M. I.
Nice pub which does excellent pizzas. However, have had one or two times where the service has been sub optimal.
A. P.
Had to amend from 5 to 3 stars after few years, hoping you guys can get better as the old days where the pizza - dough and ingredients - were super.
N. D.
More of an Italian restaurant than a pub. But still serves drinks at the bar and outside seating. Great selection of pizza
T. V.
Great atmosphere. Part pub part restaurant. If you want somewhere quiet this is not the best place. The truffle gnudi are excellent.
M. M.
Work Christmas lunch was overpriced under portioned, £30 for two courses with standard menu sized portions. Not sure what the extra money was for exactly. Pizza at their standard prices is worth it though.
B. D.
Nice outside area in the afternoon sun.
Good selection of nibbles.
Can't speak personally of the food, but pizzas looked good.
B. H.
Nice little pub, decent italian food but could do with more than 1 craft beer and 1 on tap would be ace.
T. H.
Good pizzas and the outdoor seating gets the sun in the afternoon. Popular meeting place for young families on the weekend.
T. T.
Always great food and great atmosphere! Busy on weekends, so you're better off booking!
A. A.
Very good Pizza. Very limited menu. There is no pasta served here. Didn't try anything apart from Pizza.
J. W.
Love it. nice mix and ambience. A difficult menu for us. But the quality and taste was perfect. definitely worth a visit.
G. H.
Great service so friendly we will definitely be going back and very soon :)
J. G.
Excellent British pub!
Fantastic beer selection.
Try the pale ale!
Chorizo was world class!
M. E.
Really cosy and modern environment, lovely wine. Dessert (Panna cotta) with dessert wine pairing was gorgeous
T. B.
Stunning pizzas, great tapas and excellent staff - especially the young Australian girl - and Sam - a fantastic place!!
J. R.
Good solid gastro pub with great pizza. Essentially same as the two 'oak' pubs which I believe fall under the same ownership.
D. C.
Great service and pizzas were just brilliant.. the beer was good too..
O. V.
Nice pizza, nice wine and nice atmosphere. Staff are good too. Good place for a date. Will come back here
C. F.
I really like the food there, but we always end up waiting for hours to get a table. Better booking beforehand!
N. E.
Great selection of wine and friendly staff. Heaters for the tables outside (if you can find a seat)
r.
Nice food and a godly wine list pretty much sums up the Bird in Hand. The place always has a nice vibe and atmosphere as well.
R. J.
Friendly, lively, great atmosphere. Varied menu, wine list and choice of beers.
E. D.
Excellent food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Will be back again soon!
H. B.
Had a great meal. Lovely lighting, good music, great food, and the staff were really helpful - we'll be back!
b. k.
Pricey but good food. Table service is not great once it gets busy
K. A. K.
Amazing, delicious dishes! Friendly, lovely staff and absolutely nice place!
J. W.
Lovely gastro pub with great food and atmosphere. The pizzas are amazing too.
R. T.
Love the interior, for food I prefer The Havelock Tavern over the road but we still come here for drinks now and then.
D. K.
Amazing authentic food, but was not happy that a customer could bring their big dog inside the restaurant, which was barking a lot during our meal.
D. D. C.
Super cute pub! The pizza is... forgettable, but topping the carts in everything else
J. B.
Lovely place to go for a quick drink, but the food left a lot to be desired and went home feeling underwhelmed for the price we paid
m. m.
Great pizzas. Overtly sloaney clientele, but can't fault the restaurant or the food.
T. C.
The tapas menu is good, although expensive when all added up. However the pizzas here are great.
H. M.
A local favourite. Lovely small plates, good pizza, and nice wines.
T. T.
Good pizzas! Not too expensive and nice crowd!
N. V.
Does great gin cocktails! cozy, hard to get a seat in the garden when the weather is nice.
C.
Poor atmosphere for a nice place
V. D.

J. K.
Very welcoming. Friendly staff. Very nice pizza!!

The place and the staff are very nice. But they were incredibly slow and the food was not that good.

Opened later than we wanted but food and atmosphere was good.
B. G.
Food good, service good, but loud unnecessary music , we could not even tell what the music was, stopped us giving 5 stars.
J. J.
Nice and cozy small diner. If you are in the neighborhood, don't miss it out!
S. W.
Pricey but delicious gastropub with a nice line in pizzas, ideal for a lazy Sunday lunch.

T. R.
it's a pub, pizza looks amazing though
C. S.
Good food but sometime it's hard to get seats
M. M.
the only problem is that the hundreds of customers and exhibitors from the olympia exhibition halls opposite make this pub unsuitable for locals.
S. T.
Nice contemporary pub with food and good beer on tap
M. H.
A truly outstanding walnut, honey and stilton pizza was consumed here by yours truly.

Its average
M. M.
It's more of a restaurant than a pub, but nevertheless a solid local spot with a cozy and comfortable ambiance. The menu is a bit of a medley of cuisines, predominantly Italian — the pasta is very well put together and the pizza is a bit different (but it works). Don't miss it if you live in the neighbourhood.

Wish we went here instead of the Havelock. Popped in just for a drink before and staff are great, food looked nice and the atmosphere was really pleasant.
