Hidden gem just outside city centre!!!! Definitely a must try authentic Vietnamese restaurant! Loved the flavours of the dishes, bringing out the best from the ingredients, fresh and tasty, far exceeded everything we expect from a great dinner with family ! On the way to Manchester town centre, we Google and add one more stop for Viet foods as lunch. Nice family running viet foods restaurant. Clean and friendly. My husband and I love the coffee, my sons love the crispy rolls and the classic viet soup noodles. My daughter love the pork with rice. I have been looking for a Vietnamese restaurant to fill my palate since I have been in England and Scotland for over 40 days. Nothing was in comparison to what I am used to back in California where I grew up until I ate at Viet Guy. The atmosphere is a classy Vietnamese restaurant like in Little Saigon in Westminster California when it became a haven for Vietnamese Food and businesses in the 80s. Manchester you are very lucky. This review was from dining here for six days while waiting for my departure back to the USA. There will be one more time before we go to make it lucky 7.

Lunch menu is worth to try, one main course with a snack within £10-12 is definitely a bonus, the staff is polite but that’s it…no conversation and not showing any interest in the customers. Food is okay but I would only go in lunch time as it’s easily cost double price for having the same thing in the evening.

My partner and I are a regular to this restaurant now. We would order rare steak pho, summer roll and salt and pepper chicken every time we visit. The pho: You would't say it's the most glamorous food on earth, there are no wagyu beef, or any expensive ingredients in it, but they just perfected the simple thing. Broth is solid, unlike the others that you would get from another restaurant, the flavour is rich and tasty. You can tell it was simmered by bones and a mixed blend of herbs. Nothing artificial at all. Adding and mixing with the herbs provided on the side (mint, coriander, lemon, chilli), they lift up the soup to another level. Noodles are silky smooth, soft but still remains the texture that they supposed to be. (Al dente? I'm not sure whether it can apply to pho hahaha) Beef is nice too, because it was rare when it was placed into the soup, the hot soup would slow cook them and by the time you eat them they'd become medium-rare. Juicy and succulent. To be honest I see the meat in every pho as a sidekick. The mains are always the broth and the noodles.

A nice Vietnamese in Northenden. The summer rolls are great! Love it. Don’t go for it in summer, it defo an all year round thing. The same goes to the more well known spring rolls, the OG. Pho are great but my favourite is bun bo hue, the spicier version of the famed noodle soup. Although my last visit the stock was a tiny bit lacking in the beef punch I was used to before. Having said that, I am being picky and trying to find the minute thing to comment on as it’s just good food all around.

Highly recommended for traditional Vietnamese food which is over 5 miles away from where we live but it's worth the drive. The place was already busy on a Sunday afternoon and the staff were attentive and friendly. We ordered Spring Rolls, Crispy Pancake (banh xeo), Pho and Bun ha noi. All for sharing between the 4 of us under £40. We enjoyed every bit of it and would definitely come back again.

Always love coming to this place - the Pho is to die for. So delicious and flavourful, and, bonus - it's healthy! The staff are so lovely too - everyone has been so polite and friendly. All meals we've tried here were delicious (stew, noodle dishes, curry, spring rolls, summer rolls, salt and pepper squid, duck and pancakes, pad Thai... We've made our way through most of the menu now!), but the raw beef Pho (it cooks in the heat of the broth) remains my firm favourite 😋😋😋

What a lovely little place!! My partner and I had such a lovely meal here, food was out standing. So much flavour! Never had Vietnamese food before and this was just outstanding. The staff were incredibly lovely too, especially the owner who, gave me some chilli oil to take away because it was so good (they make it in the restaurant). The restaurant itself was clean, nice decor and atmosphere. Top notch place, will definitely be coming back when in the area!

DELICIOUS! It’s our second time here, it’s now one of our favs and we have to come back for more. The beautiful papaya salad was perfect, fresh veggies, a lovely sweet taste with a little kick of spice. Their red curry was tasty tasty, the aroma in the dish made so happy. On our 2nd visit I had the PHO ❤️🍃 this soup it’s the best thing for tummy aches or mood swings, absolutely yummy, hubby ordered something call “BumCha” sorry I’m sure I missed spelling it, grill pork with veggies and fish sauce, (no fishy at all) just lots of great flavor, you can always ask to adjust the spicy on your food, it’s a nice simple place with amazing food, prices are very nice for such a outstanding quality, restrooms are very clean, staff is kind and friendly. I'm surprised that the majority of the reviews were juxtapositioned to my own experience. Small portions with alot of salad (lettuce/cucumber). Odd that at lunchtime they said 'cash only' also. No explanation given. I'd class it as oily, small portions. I wouldn't go back. Again, why are my thoughts in a minority?

Viet guy is a nice little spot in Northenden that is competing with Mi & Pho just down the road. Vietguy was easy to book (either online or phone) can certainly get busy on Friday & Saturdays so be sure to book. Week days you can likely get away with just turning up. On a busy night the table arrangement feels more like you are sharing your meal with everyone (wagamama style) but service and atmosphere is pleasent. Personally i prefer catching Vietguy when its quieter as the quality overall seems better. Having visited Vietnam a number of times with work i can certainly say the food from Vietguy is a good representation of Vietnamese food. The prices are reasonably priced and we enjoyed a meal for 3 for just short of £50. The staff are nice and friendly and our food was quick to start arriving. The food was tasty and average portion sizes. Personally Vietguy is on par with mi & pho just i think not as popular so easier to book

Belting little spot. We've moved away from Northenden but have been back a number of times already. There's a few restaurants on the high street that have suffered from the Energy crisis, I hop these aren't one of them!

Cannot fault the food here, light, fresh and absolutely delicious! The staff are wonderful. Helpful, charming and attentive without ever being intrusive. Plus, the restaurant is spotlessly clean. The only reason I've not given five stars is it is so cold! The door, which opens directly from the pavement, doesn't close properly and the draught on a cold November evening meant we all ate dinner with our coats on. We'll be back but not before next Spring.

Booked viet guy based on great reviwes and we were not dissapointed. Parking at manchester is accessible and within short walking distance. Greated on arrival with friendly welcome which is lovely and seated, and shortly after drinks order was taken and delivered. We started our first taste of vietnamese food with chicken spring rolls and mixed meat pancake which were very tasty. My partner moved onto noodle soup with well done beef and not only did it taste lovely it was very filling and he really enjoyed it and something we will pick when we travel next year. I opted for the pad thai with vermachelli noodles and peanuts, all i can say is (yum) the lemon gives it that little extra. For an extra dish we tried fried rice with small pieces of beef, it was so tasty we couldnt stop eating it although we were getting full. Final sharing course we decided to try the deep fried ice cream you just have to do it to experience it. Food costs are reasonable, we tried quite a few things to experience what it might be like when we go to vietnam, however if you were on a limited budget you could still get something amazing full of flavour from this menu. Great service and we will be back to try some more from the menu. Thank you

Really tasty Vietnamese cuisine. Impressive vegan options for us, and we enjoyed the summer rolls with tofu, salt and pepper seiten and the papaya salad as starters. All very fresh and served extremely promptly. For mains we had the sour and spicy Pho bowl with seiten, and the coconut curry with tofu accompanied by jasmine rice. Couldn't fault any of the dishes, and the service was good throughout. Looking forward to trying some of the other plant based options here soon.

Well...... I'm a regular at Mi and Pho but they're sadly not open for lunch so I looked up The Viet Guy which has great reviews so I thought I'd give it a try. Apart from one other table the restaurant was empty. I was greeted by a lovely waitress who brought me the menu and took my order. I ordered the coconut sizzler which is my favourite vietnamese dish at Mi and Pho. It arrived promptly and on visual impressions looked very similar..... sadly that's where the similarity ended. It was pretty tasteless. The chicken was just plain and has no flavour. I'm used to the chicken being seasoned/marinated but this was so bland. I came her as a little treat to myself but I'm so disappointed. I so wanted to to taste good but sadly it was such a let down. If you want delicious vietnamese food, please go to Mi and Pho.

Rather than go to the slightly busier (but still very tasty) Mi & Pho, my family and I tried our luck with Viet Guy and WOW... It didn't disappoint. The menu is varied, the price is unbelievably reasonable and the portion size is generous. The residents' of Northenden are incredibly fortunate to have not just one, but two top quality Vietnamese restaurants so close to one another. I cannot wait to visit again!

Dropped in the restaurant last night without making a reservation to find out the restaurant was really busy. However, the friendly staff still welcomed me and my boyfriend and tried their best to set a table for us though we were hopeless to find one . Busy as the waitresses seem to be, they still made it to order the food and brought the drinks for us in just 15 mins. I had the Vietnamese lemonade while my boyfriend had the Hot Vietnamese coffee, which were both absolutely amazing. The food was very nice too, especially the coconut sizzling duck. So date night came we decided to go here as it's not to dear, also they only do 2 bottle beers, which are both equally nice, we got the lettuce rolls n salt n pepper chicken wings, n we both said how nice the batter was, the noodle soups popular so the fella got that n I got the coconut chicken sizzler (it doesn't spit or anything), gorgeous flavours on both dishes, loved the condiments as well. There are depth in the traditional flavours making it my favourite Vietnamese place to go whenever I crave for phở. We came with English & Scottish friends and they liked the food a lot. We booked the table again for Father's Day and then came back again for more. Lovely staff (we were served by Hằng, Liên and Dương) with genuine smiles and knowledge of what best to order are so enthusiastic about the food and helpful. BEST VIETNAMESE FOOD EVER!! Having been away from my home country - Vietnam for almost 3 years and I’ve finally found the true taste of Vietnamese food in Vietguy restaurant. At first, to be honest, I didn’t expect the food to have the same taste as those I ate in Vietnam as I have tried quite a few Vietnamese restaurants and none of them did live up to my expectations. However, Vietguy’s food completely took me by surprise!! I ordered salt and pepper chicken wings, rare steak Bun Bo Hue and fried ice cream. And I must say that all of the dishes are absolutely amazing, especially Bun Bo Hue (which is a kind of noodle soup). The flavor of Bun Bo Hue was exactly the same in Vietnam. Also, the customer service in the restaurant was really satisfactory as the food was served quickly with considerate waiting staff. Definitely come back to the restaurant again!!

You'll find some of the best Vietnamese food in South Manchester here. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, excellent and speedy service, and wonderful food. The pho broth is delicious, with a great depth of flavour, and you can tailor mint, lemon, and chilli to your taste. The spring rolls are amazing, and could easily serve as a main in their own right.

The salt & pepper squid is phenomenal (have to have it every time), and also the Bún bò Huế soup - which is really filling and you don’t want the bowl to empty!
