I have been working away for a few weeks and trying to sample some local eats with high reviews on Google. I opted for this place as I like the nature of Italian cooking and is described as family run which is a little more endearing than chains. I had calamari and then a black squid ink spaghetti with langoustine ("hope I spelt that right) and cherry tomatoes. Everything was lovely, can't fault the cooking. The service was great too, very approachable and chatty. All smiles and all the other customers seemed to be having a wonderful time.

Old school Italian, very few frills but decent quality at a reasonable price. Interesting building, and lovely, healthy real plants everywhere. I'd go here just for the plants, I am so sick of plastic plants in plastic venues!

Had calamari and carbonara. Calamari was delicious, but the carbonara was a little disappointing - a bit brown and lacking in cheese flavour. Still tasty, but I've had better. Staff were friendly and service was prompt despite being really busy. I'd go back, but I'd probably have something other than the pasta.

Visited Basilico on Wed evening for a family 21st Birthday Celebration. Had starters, main courses (fillet steak/sea bass) desserts, all absolutely perfect. Waitress/Waiter did a great job too, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you very much for a perfect meal in beautiful surroundings.

Nice place & staff,good food, but pricing ? menu said starter and main £16 per head so £32 plus drinks , but 1x g&t +2x 330 ml beer was £50 +, but prawns not de veined, and no covid tracking taken ? is this now required ? Nice place and waitress but not dashing back at the moment,. Hi guys,, I was wrong as I had not correctly read thee menu ,, for that I apologize I did not have my specs with me, and my comment re the deveigning was also incorrect, as it is in fact a matter of choice,, I will say that I did enjoy my evening at your restaurant in speight of what I thought was wrong , and will ask you to forgive my comments as most were in fact preferences,, best regards .

Cosy restaurant tucked away at the end of the high street. The food at Basilico is fantastic, the shellfish dishes are well worth a try. 2 course set menu for £16, daily specials and great service.

Mediocre and pricey. The potato skins were not very nice. They tasted bitter and the garlic mayo was not good. I had a spaghetti bolognese for my main and it was really bland and the pasta was absolutely rock hard. I know Italians can like their pasta Al dente.. but this was one step beyond and common to the other dishes we ordered. Daughters carbonara was nice however and place is reasonable inside.

The old Gosforth Assembly Rooms is now Basilico - nice setting and nice food, however there are now loads of Restaurants on Gosforth High Street so standard's have to be high. Still worth a visit !

Love this restaurant. Hadn't been for years until a few months ago, when we went for lunch. Great food, great service and they were happy to knock up a vegetarian pasta for my sister, which she loved. Highly recommended!

The best Italian Restaurant in Newcastle! Friendly knowledgeable staff. Our first choice on a night out outside the city centre. A recent visit to celebrate with friends provided further proof of the staffs competence & ability to create an excellent atmosphere, relaxed & efficient

One of my favourite places to eat, a traditional family Italian, a bit more upmarket than most and the food is excellent quality, the fish and steaks are really good. Traditional style decor, you go upstairs to get to it from the High Street. Shame the drinks are a little expensive but otherwise great the staff are very friendly.

This is the sister restaurant to Mario's in Newcastle. It's a bit out of the way if you don't live in South Gosforth. It's a much larger place so social distancing not a problem. Fabulous meal prepared by Joe washed down with two bottles of Sangavese. Unfortunately none of Mario's dad's own wine to taste. Thank you Mario. Asumpta. Chloe. Joe and the lovely Bill.
