Great experience, food was lovely, everyone was very polite and live music. Unfortunately on a pasta dish there was a big piece of plastic at the bottom so my sister only found it at the end of her meal wich was a bit discussing, we raised this with the waitress and recognised the food was really good, she appoligised and that was it..we where expecting at least some discount on that dish but no compensation for the mistake was made, we wherent expecting much since she only found it at the end of the meal but it would have been a good gesture a discount on her dish at least. We paid around £130 for 3 ladies plus tip, no desserts, 1 bottle of wine to share,2 cocktails,2 starters and 3 mains.

Tastey food, with great music and brilliant staff. I would definetely go back. We had cocktails, starters , mains and desert. Everything was great except the ravioli i had which i was not the biggest fan of the sauce (hence they lost 1 star) , but that would not put me off coming back. Next time i will try a different dish. The atmosphere was fantastic and the selesction of cocktails topped the night off. Lovely restaurant.

We had a very memorable visit. There's a great look and feel to the place. The cocktail menu is fantastic and the cocktails themselves are made to a very high standard. The staff were helpful and friendly and the live band topped it off perfectly. We'll definitely recommend and will be back.

Whet there for a romantic meal, atmosphere was cosy. But food and wine was not up to scratch. Everything was over cooked, my partners meal was obviously microwave and so hot the she couldn't eat it for a good few minutes.
My pork was dry and hard. The first glasses of wine we asked for was undrinkable, so overall not impressed
Sorry.
Ps. The staff were friendly.

Great concert, great drinks and food. Nixe service. Great ambience.

beautiful beautiful music and splendid food and drink, couldn't ask for a better jazz spot than this love this place will be back in a few hours

Treated hubby tonight for our Anniversary! Great selection of drinks and cocktails, All of the food was amazing and cooked to absolute perfection.
The bar staff were very friendly and Dan was so attentive! The lady jazz singer was also excellent! Will 100% be returning, we had a wonderful night!
A. M.
Love it! Best bar in the city, best Italian cuisine in the city and best jazz in the city! Simply the best!
A. s.
The food was nice and the restaurant felt very comfortable, but the music was just too loud. Such a shame, as the artists voice was lovely.
e. n.
The biggest disappointment was not the food ( average, won’t go there for that) but the music.
I went there expecting lively jazz.
Didn’t happen.
Amateur bands garage practice.

Did a 10 out of 5 Review on Trip Advisor. Food amazing, staff superb, & live jazz. Fabulous.
V.
A lovely spot with a wonderful atmosphere, talented live performers, and top class meat dishes. Our server Nathan was also a highlight of our visit.
S. D.
Perfect venue all round and a lovely experience. Came for dinner on a Saturday night and the service was brilliant and cocktails and food were delicious. The atmosphere is fantastic, with nice lighting and the live band playing at the perfect volume. The prices are nothing ridiculous and absolutely worth it - our starters were £6-7, pasta mains were £11-15, and they have a few bottles of wine for under £25. If you're vegetarian/vegan, ask for the separate menu as it has a few bits on that aren't on the regular menu.
S. V.
Easily my favourite place for food and drink in Nottingham. The atmosphere is amazing, the food is delicious every time and the staff are so friendly.
S. T.
Absolutely wonderful place. Have been wanting to eat here for years and the experience did not disappoint. Food was superb, staff were so friendly, and the live music - while more Blues than Jazz- made the evening perfect. I had no idea they have such an extensive cocktail menu here - Banoffee Delight was delish and husband said his Rum Old Fashioned was the best he's ever tasted. Highly recommend and will be returning!
D. F.
Great night out. Live jazz, dinner, cocktails. Loved it.
I.
Great venue, great location, great music, great service and tasty food. It was a lovely Thursday girls date !
L. M.
My favourite place for a night out in Nottingham - rustic Italian food, cocktails and live jazz, you can't go wrong!
Y. S. L. L. N.
Really nice homemade special and main course, excellent friendly hosting, great music
S. B.
We had a great evening at the Pelican Club! Lovely atmosphere, jazz band playing, warm welcome, fabulous food, helpful staff and great cocktails. I would highly recommend!
G. M.
A beat of jazz in the Lace Market, in Nottingham. One could also enjoy the good music by tasting some italian food, and of course a very italian spritz cocktail.

My birthday, so the Pelican Club looked very inviting, good food, good service and fab live Jazz!!! And to be honest the atmosphere and service is great. Unfortunately, the food which should have been great was not. Don't get me wrong, the pasta dishes were small but tasty and we'll presented. We opted for the rib steak. Mine was well over cooked, in fact burnt. Too tough to eat. Our server was very good about it and gave us discounts on our cocktails. This was an extremely busy Saturday night, so to be fair, I can still recommend this venue. Atmospheric and friendly and well over priced.
L. W.
Fantastic food with great variety and lovely cocktails.
The music was great, however I wish the bands were forefront performances rather than background music.
If you're looking for a great restaurant with jazz playing in the background this is the perfect restaurant but if you're looking for a jazz club with great food, this isn't perhaps the right place
H. B.
Absolutely love this place - lovely atmosphere, great service, delicious food.
A. R.
Good food, friendly staff and live music
b. r.
Delicious food with some wonderful combinations, lovely cocktails and lovely staff topped with mellow live jazz at night, just perfect! Will definitely be returning!
A. B.
The live music and atmosphere is amazing. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because I didn't enjoy my main course that much, but I that's just down to personal taste!
J.
We went for the first time for our Christmas team night out. The place had a lovely ambience, menu a little limited. The food was pretty average. Not ranked in my top 10 for Italian food as it was sub standard. Wouldn't rush back which is a shame.
G. G.
Just wonderful!
Live Jazz music at the perfect volume to be able to chat in an incredibly warm atmosphere. Excellent food and service too.
We even got a romantic table near the stage, and enjoyed the best view on musicians.
I will definitely come back.
V.
Great evening at The Pelican in Nottingham, very relaxed & welcoming surroundings, excellent staff & food. All to the accompaniment of great live music. The Raph Acache Trio were brilliant.
T. T.
Couldn't find a pelican, but the food was fabulous. Would look for birds again 👍🏻
A. S.
From the moment you step into this wonderful place, you feel thoroughly chilled out. Such a warm welcome & fabulous food along with relaxed Jazz music. We dont live in Nottingham so unfortunately it's not easy for us to revisit, had a great birthday meal, one to remember.
P. L. T.
Lovely venue let down by food.
Menu looked good - limited choice if interesting dishes at a top price point - but it just did not deliver. Portions were mean and there was nothing special - edible but definitely not worth the price.
I would have complained at that time if it had not been a birthday meal for my son.
As i can manufacture others have said - will probably return for music but not to eat.
T. M.
This place is so cool , nice jazz in the background, and 9n a Thursday, Friday and Saturday live jazz. The food is great
k. j.
This place has a really nice ambience and decor. Great cocktails and cool location. Love going through the velvet door curtain!
The food let's it down though. I have eaten here twice and both times I have been disappointed. I like 'al dente' pasta but tough as old boots is not for me!
The staff are great and really friendly. If the menu/food was as good as everything else it would be an all round amazing spot.
Would definitely go for drinks though
C. R. D.
Great staff, great atmosphere. We were a group of 4 and everyone had lovely meals except for me. I had spinach ravioli with a tomato sauce. The pasta was undercooked, not al dente, and the sauce was more like a puree, extremely tangy and unseasoned.
S.
Our favourite place in Nottingham.
I was first drawn in by the jazz echoing down the street and stayed for a melon cocktail that was superb. I've had great success asking the bar staff to make cocktails to suit the mood of my company and I, and the list is otherwise extensive.
Food is exemplary, the best Italian I've ever had that wasn't made by my relatives. If it's on the menu, try the pork medallions in black truffle sauce. I could eat the vegetables alone, the meat is an added delight.
The only negatives are that there isn't a house band playing all night every night, and that you need to book a week in advance - expected for the weekend.
E. “. e. n. G.
Food was amazing, staff were attentive and smiley and the atmosphere was great. Deffo reccommend as a place to visit in notts
C. T.
Wonderful food with very little wait. Good choice for vegetarians and vegans, and very nice wine, all served in a lovely atmosphere and decor. Wait staff were also brilliant, from booking a table over the phone to serving at the table. Perfect for a special occasion.
P. H.
Lovely atmosphere, beautiful live music and the best Italian food I've ever had. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful, going out of their way to accommodate us. I didn't want the night to end.
J. R.
Incredible food, music, staff attitudes and venue. A great hidden gem in Nottingham, hope to see them succeed in future.
W. G.
This is a place you need to be with that special person in your life, staff are very good and the food is fantastic, nice and clean , and if you like jazz Thursday , Friday and Saturday they have live jazz, 10 out of 10
D. D.
Proper live jazz in notts... Good food choices and the food doesn't disappoint in taste although portions are not Northern (or Midlands). Prices reflect the experience but well worth a regular visit. Check out the happy hours all week on cocktails and fizz
A.
Exquisite food, friendly service and a wonderful ambience. Really can't fault this place and have been coming for years! Cocktails are to die for and jazz nights are particularly wonderful. Anna's Baileys cheesecake is delicious. Please please visit if it's the only thing you do in Nottingham.
O. A.
Turned up without booking on a Saturday evening, staff were very accommodating and made room for two of us. Had lovely Pheasant breasts and smashed roast potatoes. The Live Jazz music also made for a great atmosphere.
M. B.
Lovely food, mouth-watering continental and fresh flavours, pasta cooked al dente as requested, and brilliant live jazz.
A. B.
Special place for jazz-lovers. Live jazz or swing music over the weekends, from 9.30/10PM, fine and tasty Italian Umbrian food and spectacular wine. The atmosphere is cozy, staff is lovely and I'd really advise to go there for a quiet romantic dinner or a fine dining with colleagues or friends.
S. W.
Fab food and cocktails, the group that was on was fabulous. We could have stayed all night. Just wish it was closer to us and we'd be in there every week! Can't wait for our next visit! Thank you x
P. B.
Finally we got to eat and spend a couple of hours at this place. Great food and atmosphere. A proper jazz club, with some nice music. We had to wait a bit for the food, but waiting stuff was amazing and taking care of us. We felt very welcomed and we will sure come back.
C. M.
The Pelican Club is one of the few restaurants that serves my favourite seafood dish - monkfish, and it was beautifully cooked. My wife and I visited on our anniversary and were impressed by both the food and atmosphere. It can get very busy though so I would recommend booking in advance. Music was fantastic too.
G. L.
I had the most amazing Martini. There are cocktail bars all over Nottingham but few are as nice as this. The food is amazing too. I could smell the lamb which brought back memories of my birthday and I almost ordered it even though I wasn't hungry.
E. Y.
Lovely Italian food and wines and very personable and helpful staff. Ramps available to overcome two kerb height steps in the corridor leading from the door to the venue, although space very tight. Accessible toilet in the hall the external side of the two steps. This wheelchair user didn't use the loo on this occasion.
P. L.
A cosy jazz club with very good selection of cocktails and wines. Live music. Chilled atmosphere. Music was a little loud when we were there. Made conversation difficult but moved tables and was ok. Very chilled atmosphere. Menus are inside LP album sleeves which is a cool touch.
J. K.
We visited for the first time. It was to see our friend play jazz. I was guested up to sing. Lovely place sith great atmosphere . We ate also and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Returning next week. Looking forward to it.
D. N.
Very friendly staff who made you feel very welcome. Food was fab & the rib eye steak was to die for. The live jazz band blended in to create the perfect atmosphere. We had a lovely evening celebrating my partner Caroline's birthday, thank you we will definitely be returning. Dhanish.
T. D.
Fabulous jazz and a buzzing atmosphere. Attended with group of 6 on a Saturday night for dinner.
Service was outstanding, food really good but could be even better with bit more attention. Would certainly return.
C. P.
We were here for a friend's birthday meal. The food was great. I am coeliac but there were a number of gluten free options and staff were very helpful. The atmosphere was very nice and live music very enjoyable.
J. F.
Great food, well served . Compliments to the chef , very enjoyable cocktails, nice bottle of Processo .
Above all great atmosphere with the live Jazz music, a fantastic birthday night
We will be back and soon .
J. W.
First visit. Wonderful music. Friendly staff. Drinks menu great. Hoping to return to try the food. Loved it. Thank you for making us feel welcome.
L. J.
Had a booking at 9pm last night; as soon as we walked in it felt like we were in an old Italian jazz bar the kind you would have seen in the film "Talented Mr Ripley" the place was loud with conversation, laughter and music. I sat at the bar glancing at the applaudable wine and cocktail menu, I could not give it my full concentration due to the sounds coming from the jazz band setting up, the clinking of wine glasses and cutlery touching plates. We were later shown to our candlelit corner where the curved exposed brick wall leaned over us which gave us a touch of privacy, making us feel like the only couple in the room. Yet the restaurant was full, an atmosphere that was a holiday for the senses. We had ordered the cheese, bread and cured meats to begin; an excellent way to start our Italian experience. From the soft, melt In your mouth buffalo mozzarella to the smokey chorizo, the board itself was a sample of Italy.
Whilst we waited for our main it's was wonderful to bathe in the humble glory of the room. The Jazz band began to play on the red velvet stage. They played quietly enough to hear next table discuss political matters of Trump and congress but you knew of their presence with the brushing of the drum symbols and soft vocals.
My attention was quickly diverted to the plate under my nose; consisting of a simple Pork Fillet and potatoes. The pork was beautifully dressed in a black truffle and mushroom sauce. It was cooked to perfection and delight for the palate. The plate had two main ingredients, one sauce and that's all that was needed, the simplicity spoke volumes! I would most definitely recommend this dish and praise the genius behind it.
Clearly a dark horse of the Nottingham's food and wine scene, sometimes overlooked as it sits quietly in the heart of the Lace Market.
R. S. G.
This is my favourite Italian restaurant in Nottingham! Their pasta is always amazing... I never tried any item from the secondi piati menu, just because I always want to try one of the pastas. The espresso is also great, a really proper Italian espresso! Really nice atmosphere as well!
T. M.
Tucked away in a quiet little side street. Food was amazing, enjoyed all 3 courses! Great music, great service - attentive but not in your face, reasonable cost. chilled and cosy.... We had a perfect evening there and will be back.
M. H.
Favourite spot in Nottingham. Excellent cocktails, great food, menus frequently updated, friendly service and often has live jazz playing. Happy hour on a Weds is perfect before a gig at the ice arena
S. S. C.
Great service and absolutely outstanding Italian food featuring handmade pasta. Don’t miss the meat and cheese sharing platter!
J. M.
Tasty and wholesome feeling Italian food in the restaurant, good cocktails in the bar. Live music can be a bit invasive for conversation so keep in mind when booking a time for a table.
D. L.
Great live music, great Italian food and the staff goes over the moon to make everyone happy
J. W.
Absolutely brilliant place. Stunning food. Excellent drinks. Cosy and friendly atmosphere and very entertaining with the live music in the background. A real gem of a place. Go along, you wont be disappointed.
T. N.
Great food and ambience. Only downside for me is it's a little on the small side which meant it can feel a little too cramped and the live music was really loud even though it was fantastic. Overall good place to dine at and will be returning again soon
S. M.
Decent food, great atmosphere. Really friendly staff.
K. B.
Visited on Saturday evening, the Staff were brilliant, cocktails were delicious and jazz was great! Best to book to avoid disappointment as gets quite busy.
R. W.
Food superb staff great, service good jazz music. Will be back
D. “. B.
Lovely Italian, delicious food, nice atmosphere. Had live music which wasn't overwhelming. Would visit again if there wasn't a big group!
C. B.
Really nice place. Especially if your into jazz. Just a jazz duo on, wished it had been more. Will go back and check-out a jazz band. Cool place. Enjoyed it.
C. H.
Amazing atmosphere, love it here. Drinks can be a bit expensive but they're well worth it. As long as you keep that in mind it's a fantastic place to go.
T. C.
Incredible food with a friendly staff. You fancy mitchilan rated food for a fraction of the price I'd visit the pelican club qqq
R. C.
Mouth watering food, unique signature cocktails you wont find anywhere else, service that is impeccable and very homely. Not to mention the live Jazz. The type of place you will want to stay all night and go back the day after.
B. S.
The food here is amazing, went with clients from work and we all loved the food, drink and atmosphere. I would fully recommend going here for food as we couldn't fault it. The staff are also extremely friendly and helpful. Would always eat here again.
S. L.
Lovely relaxed spacious bar. Great cocktails and lovely waitress service. The band on were alright and not at an overwhelming volume either.
M. C.

Great Italian food. The house wine (Sangiovese-Merlot) is a really good option. The pasta Tuesday offer is great value for money!
B. J.
Lovely food, Fab decor and a different selection of cocktails. Really enjoyed our evening.
J. S.
Excellent cocktails, great service, music is pot luck as to style and quality but the food is fussy. Great for drinks with atmosphere
C. R.
We had a delicious four course dinner with wine pairings! Atmosphere, service and music was great. Such a treat!!
J. P.
A large group (14) of us dined on a Saturday evening. Food was delicious, service was excellent. The place has a really nice 'vibe'. I'd certainly go back.
T. B.
The lamb cutlets are beyond delicious, and the general atmosphere is just fantastic; low lighting, jazz, and very amicable and helpful staff.
M. B.
Great food, great cocktails and nice jazz music. Been going here a few years now and have never been disappointed!

Pelican Club is a true Nottingham gem, and my second home. It can't be beaten in terms of ambience - live jazz, excellent bar staff, wonderful cocktails, great customers. I travel a fair bit and I visit bars all over the world, often, and I'd certainly put Pelican Club in my top 5. And, all of that compels me to question Mr. Watling's anomalous review of the place. I can assure everyone that the staff at Pelican Club are not capable of being rude or "moody" - they are always smiling, always enthusiastic, and always responsive. As for the cockles nonsense, I doubt the situation played out like that. And even if so, lighten up! Get another pornstar and relax 😀.
N. D.
Firstly I'd like to point out that I am one of the owners of The Pelican Club and I am responding to a review posted by Jay Watling. I don't normally respond to reviews, positive or negative, as I feel that everyone has the right to share their opinion and experience and it is also a tool I use when visiting a place for the first time. The only reason I have chosen to respond to this one is because the integrity of my business and therefore myself has been called into question.
Firstly, I must apologise to Mr. Watling, because if he was not informed that the dish was made with cockles instead of clams then that was indeed our mistake, he should have been and therefore I hold my hands up to that, this was an honest omission on a busy night which unfortunately can happen when human beings are involved but as he said he was duly compensated. As for the explanation that was given to them by the waitress, maybe it was the live jazz or the general exploits of a Saturday night out in town but it was clearly misheard on their part, what the waitress actually said was that 'due to the recent strong winds off the west coast we've struggled to get clams so our supplier has given us a mixture of cockles and clams'. We used all the clams first then switched to cockles when they ran out and all tables, except for Mr. Watling it seems, were informed of this. Now rest assured people of Nottingham we weren't trying to pinch your pennies one mollusc at a time. As I'm sure most of you know that the market value of fish changes on a daily basis and as we use fresh ingredients we were actually charged the same for the cockles as we would have been for the clams and therefore would have charged the same price for the dish anyway. I do apologise for any inconvenience cockle-gate may have caused, but I want to assure everyone, as I'm sure most of our customers will lay testament to we are a very honest independent business who pride ourselves in customer service and the product the we provide.
As I'm sure most review readers will know, whether it be on trip advisor, google or even just word of mouth all reviewers are not created equal, in general terms if people are saying good things about a place then it safe to say that the place in question is worth visiting, that's not to say that mistakes won't happen and sometimes a person will have a bad experience. I can say in all honesty that, especially with small independent places, the staff, managers and owners are doing their level best to make sure you have a good experience and for you to come back time and again, that's certainly the case with us.
C. B.
