Lovely pizzas in a proper Italian diner. We went at a very busy time so there was a bit of a wait for our food. Good value and great food though.

Excellent gluten free pasta! The chef was very knowledgeable. It takes some time because they change out the pasta water, but totally worth it. There is no gf pizza, but if you’re hankering for some pasta, this is the place! (Pictured = gf fettuccine, comes with mushrooms, ham, and peas. Absolutely delicious!)

This place seemed very authentic and Italian. Service was great, as well as the pizza and drinks. Can't really go wrong here for that. Only very slight improvement can be the pizza dough, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good.

I had booked a table for 6 on 20/5 as we were in the area to celebrate my daughters graduation. We were running late due to travel delays and had to push our booking back by half an hour. This was not a problem for Mario and we arrived to a warm welcome. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and conscientious. The restaurant was very busy and had a lovely atmosphere. One of our party is Coeliac and this was managed with knowledge and care. We ate from the regular menu and the specials and all the food was freshly cooked and delicious. If we ever have a reason to be in Oxford again then we will return to Mario's. Highly recommended on all levels.

Great little find in cowley. Looks a bit peculiar from outside. All staff are Italian and great menu. I had a lovely pasta and a insalata carpresse for starter, fair enough price for wine and food. Can’t get half a bottle for 11 quid. Would recommend, as service is quick and great food. About 20 a head for starter main and a drink. So reasonable, will be back to this pizza 🍕 place along cowley.

I love this restaurant so much ! We go there very often with my partner and it's always a very good time. Authentic italian food, home made and so good, prices are great, staff is lovely. I'm a big fan of their gnocchis and their pizza (I recommand the crudo), I always ask to have the penne meatballs but replace the penne by gnocchis and they always say yes even when the restaurant is very busy. One of the best restaurant in Oxford to my opinion.

As Italian,I can affirm this is the best pizza I've ever had in Oxford. The owner is from Naples and, believe me, this is another quality of certificate. If you've never gone in this Pizzeria, it's a big mistake and you should fix it immediately. Best pizza I recommend is Prosciutto Crudo:)

Me and my partner went in Oxford for a couple of days. We discovered the trattoria di Marco accidentally while passing by... Honestly it was the only place we went for food during our stay there. Very nice pizza and pasta, very generous portions, well prepared and tasty! Cooking the old way as it should be. Definitely going back on our next visit.

There are two places in Oxford that I believe do amazing pizza. One is a van that parks down on St Aldates and the other is here. Mario's does proper pizza, quickly, and it tastes amazing. Good ingredients, great sauce, friendly service. Back when you could eat-in, in the before-times, it was a fantastically cosy place to head out and grab some other authentic Italian cuisine too. As you'd expect, the lasagne is fantastic but you could order pretty much anything and be very pleased.

I went here for a friend's birthday and it was excellent. The waiting staff were really friendly, and looked after us very well. All the food was excellent, and I was amazed that a table of 14's food all came out at the same time, and all hot. I would certainly recommend them, and apparently especially if you're looking for somewhere that can accommodate a bigger table.

Pizza is better than some chain take away places, however could improve some bits. They have only one oven, which is constantly open because how busy they are, this cause that pizza is not hot enough in my opinion.

Easily one of the best most authentic pizzas I've ever had. The dough was so good I could have just has it plain and the beer selection is perfectly paired with the meal. If you're a fan of strong, salty garlic bread they have an incredible garlic focaccia.

Brilliant pizzas, great atmosphere and perfect price. Mario's is my favourite pizza place to eat out at. It's the one I regularly take guests visiting Oxford to if they're craving for something affordable and tasty. The staff are brilliant, and will rush off their feet to get you another beer or some oils to pour over the pizza. Mario's was also very obliging when we wanted to have a birthday meal there. They let us bring the cake in early and kept it hidden until after we had eaten! Then they dimmed the lights, and brought the cake, lit up with candles, to our table while singing happy birthday! It was far more than we expected and the birthday boy (... 21 years old) LOVED it. I would definitely recommend Mario's to anyone hankering for a pizza.

Recommended by an Italian friend in lockdown and a good call. Open for take-out, all wearing masks, and an wood-fired oven. Even told me was about 15 minutes... and it was! Menu is very broad - amazing range of pastas, pizzas, and starters... EXCEPT VEGAN PIZZAS! To be fair: vegan pastas are varied, but their only vegan pizza is "Pizza Marinara - Tomato sauce, garlic and oregano". 🙄 Sorry guys: sounds boring. Had Pizza Caprera instead as a take-out - was DELICIOUS! 😋 Only other suggestion I have is they didn't have much by way of drinks. Still: meh - Scary Monsters club do take-out beer. 🍺 Happy to pass on the recommendation of my Italian friend. Bella Italia are still great, but these guys are just a little bit better.

Oxford isn't short of pizza places but this should be high on your list of priorities. It's not jazzy - pictures of Italian holiday destinations and football flags adorn the wood clad walls, but this gives it a homely atmosphere you won't get elsewhere. Pizza Mario is a real favourite of mine. Whatever you have you won't be disappointed. Just don't expect a flashy interior. The magic is in the food.

Mario and his staff have done for Oxford cuisine, what the Louvre did for Paris: they've taken timeless artworks from overseas and presented them to the hungry masses. Some evenings when I'm feeling low I will walk up Cowley road for a big whiff of those fresh pizza fumes and instantly I am transported to one of the many 5 star nights I've spent there. My latest (hopefully not last) visit was earlier this week. We were a party of 11, but I had only booked for 10. The staff added another chair with absolutely no fuss, for which I am still grateful because the 11th person was actually late and is very sensitive and often worries about causing a scene. The tact of the staff is flawless. They brought abundant food and drink with grace and perfect accuracy (I often find that with large parties usually someone's order is mismanaged - this was not the case at Mario's). It is not hyperbole to say the dough is sublime. I saved my crusts for last, and by the end my face and hands were slick with extra virgin. We wrapped up the evening with an industrial-sized tray of tiramisu for the table, which they kindly offered us at a slight discount because of the occasion. The waiter obligingly confirmed that there were no peanuts in the tiramisu, which was also confirmed independently by us when none of our party fell into anaphylaxis. Overall, I cannot praise this establishment highly enough. It is an unassuming home-away-from-home of a restaurant that I will happily throw my money at for decades to come. Thank you Mario and staff.
